for all the drawbacks real life has, we do have people here we love and want to stay for. headspace would be a nice escape, but we're determined to live out here for the people we love.

What is the most fun about doing polls and answering questions, in your opinion? we like getting to explain ourselves. we are a constant conversation, and we like getting to share even a bit of our thought processes (if faucet lets us, of course.) if theres a poll or a question asked, we know the answer we're giving is warranted and wanted, in some way. we like knowing there's people willing to listen to us :']
for these questions specifically, we've also been trying to get to know ourselves better!! we're still new, still processing, still trying to understand how we work! like, these questions made us realize sharps is an age slider and helped us situate headspace a little more so!! hkjgh yippee!!

Headcanons: Sleep in the waking world
Since I'm running with the idea of Trina being a nascent outer god, as opposed to an Empyrean god-vessel, I wanted to toss around the idea of what it would look like if she fully lost what made her human and laid claim to some territory, along the lines of Mohgwyn's blood swamps, the entirety of Caelid, and the glintstone-encrusted Liurnia.
So let's entertain the idea of a full Sleep ecosystem.
Trina and Miquella are very fey-coded to me, and her knight is a straight up Nuckelavee, so I'm going to throw in some monsters and Fair Folk-adjacent critters, particularly water-based ones since Sleep is frequently compared to a swamp.
...a Sleep peat bog actually sounds really cool. Perfectly preserved bog bodies in tranquil slumber. Don't you want to join them for a little nap?
The only other creature associated with her in-game are owls, so y'all know what I have to do. Giant fucked up owls. Maybe they're completely silent too.
Kelpies to drag you into the swamp, huldra to drag you into the swamp, a few more nuckelavee for the hell of it, fossekallen just because the idea of an enchanting fiddle-player meshes really well with Trina as a singer of lullabies.
"A few more nuckelavee" is kind of like saying "a few more nukes" so I feel like I'm definitely fulfilling the spirit of Fromsoft. Also, of course, the ubiquitous slug/slime things in nasty purple-black. Extra fluffy rats and dogs though. So fluffy. Maybe they give off some kind of horrible sleep spores.
Also, since it's a Sleep bog, I feel like that's all the license we need to add a little more body horror based on dreams? Citizens half-twisted into deer or birds, phantom wolf-men that only appear at night, sleeping bodies visibly half-submerged in treetrunks that scream for help during the day. Fun things like that.
Lots and lots of lilies, and especially night-blooming flowers. Strangely lucid ghosts that can actually carry a conversation. Swamp lights. Maybe a mushroom circle or two that acts like a teleporter trap.
I really feel like a Sleep ecosystem is the perfect place for horrible monster spiders, too, but I could go either way on that. Cocoons seem more associated with Miquella.

Amethyst - Chapter Six
The cavern was, indeed, super creepy. However, it was not without its thrill-seekers. There were hikers, youngsters, and campers alike, and they were all searching for either battle opponents or new Pokemon. I managed to catch a Dugtrio, Snorunt and Machop. I was never partial to ground or fighting types that much, yet I figured I would need to learn some new skills if I were to complete the gym challenge. Within the dirt, I managed to pick up a few revives, PP ups and a zinc. However, I couldn't help but prick up my ears when I felt a faint sound echoing through the cavern. It was a beautiful melody, and it sounded as if it was coming from someone playing the harp nearby. Lily and Stalagus also picked up on the sound, and swayed gracefully along to the music, before slumping to the ground in a deep sleep. I felt a yawn coming on too, the sound was so peaceful. Yet, it was abruptly interrupted by a shrill scream that alerted all of my Pokemon. It echoed throughout the cavern, and sent a shiver down my spine. The harp, however, did not stop. Squinting, I followed the direction from which the scream came, and eventually saw a small flame in the distance of the cavern, followed by the sound of two voices.
"Dude, you're such a sissy at times! This is a CAVE! There are all kinds of weird Pokemon hanging around here! If you don't stop being a wuss, Team Moon will NEVER accept us as grunts!" A female voice hissed. A shaky male voice followed, "I'm sorry, I just-- you know how much I detest spiders! Even the thought of them gives me the heeby jeebies!" Upon approaching, I realised that this was Lisa and Mackenzie.
"Mack?" I called out, causing the young man to jump once more before turning to face me.
"Oh, uh... sorry Y/N, I hope I didn't wake you," he stammered.
"No, but you might've almost deafened everyone in here!" Lisa rolled her eyes at her male counterpart before turning back to me. "He goes absolutely demented when he sees anything remotely spider-shaped. It's ridiculous." Lisa explained. "I had to get rid of my pet Galvantula because he kept having nightmares it was going to eat him alive."
"LISA!" Mackenzie yelled out in embarrassment.
"I see, I see. Well don't worry about it, I wasn't sleeping. But hey, do you guys hear that? It sounds like a harp," I asked.
They both looked away, and listened to the harp, which was still softly playing its melancholy melody.
"Who would be playing the harp around here? And at THIS time of night?" Lisa scoffed.
"Beats me. Anyway, I'm going to head off now." I bid them goodbye. "Good luck with the spiders, Mackenzie,"

The next morning, I was awoken by the rising sunlight seeping through the cracks in the rocks of the cavern. I had set up my tent near the exit so I wouldn't lose my bearings.
I smiled. I could see Acuada city looming in the distance. The skyscrapers and the huge water monument right in the centre were visible for miles. I set off along Route Two, battling a few Pokemon using my Snorunt and Dugtrio, whom I named Cosine and Manganese respectively. I also gave them some of the power ups I had acquired from the cave in order to get their strength up as much as possible. This path was a clear etched out concrete one that was easy to follow and led straight into the city. Naturally, it was buzzing with people, and all the shops were open for business, despite it only being 7am. What with the Acuada Economy booming, businesses were as eager as ever to open up at the crack of dawn and remain open until past dusk. A huge neon sign reading "POLLUX" flickered brightly atop the huge, multi-story department store, adjacent to the large blue-and-white structure that mirrored its Arrowell counterpart - The Acuada Gym.
I considered whether or not I should head straight into Pollux to buy a new outfit considering the one I was wearing was still soaked from the evening before when Danny had pushed me into the water. I ultimately decided that could wait, as some extra cash could come in handy. Pollux wasn't known for being cheap, after all. I figured I could win some good prize money by battling other trainers as well as completing the Water Gym challenge against the Gym Leader, Veronica. On the opposite side of the street, there was a small swimming pool, complete with lights, and palm trees were set up alongside it. A group of young boys were training their Finizens, diving up and down in the water. There were also many important businessmen and women in dress suits walking up and down the streets, their eyes and fingers both glued to their rotom phones.
I headed inside the water gym, and, of course, the main foyer had a large fountain right in the middle of it made up of quartz, and had a statue of a Luvdisc on the very top. There were a couple of tiny Pokemon playing in the water. The walls looked as though you were in a fish tank, complete with gravel and plants, which were kept moving by a generator which was blowing bubbles. After registering my name at the desk, I was instructed to follow a man wearing a Lifeguard's uniform. "Hey, Y/N. I'm Jordan. Good to see you all ready for the water gym mission. To be honest this is my favourite gym, if you couldn't tell by my attire."
"Haha, yeah I can tell." I chuckled. "So, what's the challenge this time? Another pop quiz?"
"Oh no no, nothing like that!" Jordan shook his head. "It's actually fun! Veronica doesn't like to intimidate her challengers with daunting quizzes about Taldourse and its Pokemon! It's literally just a water slide!"
"A water slide? That simple?" I raised my eyebrows.
"Yeah, well I mean it's not simple if you're scared of heights, so there's that," Jordan scratched the back of his head, as he led me up a spiral staircase. There were other gym trainers dressed in the water uniform - which was just a dark blue swimsuit - up at the top of the staircase, standing in front of two huge tunnel slides. The sound of running water echoed through the place.
"Alright! Everyone! On the count of three, you're going to set off down your water slides and catch as many Pokemon as you can on your way down. Got it?" We all nodded in unison. "Three... two... one... GO!!!!"
I sat down, and used my arms to push myself. I began sliding. Grabbing some extra Pokeballs, I noticed a Poliwag. I threw a ball at it, and it escaped. "Damn it!" As I was further accelerating downwards, I managed to catch a Tentacool, Horsea and Goldeen. I figured I would train them up later in preparation for the fire gym. Eventually, as I slipped down the slide, my velocity increased until I noticed a sharp up turn. I gasped, and before I had chance to prepare myself, I was immediately thrust upwards into the air, and eventually fell down into the water pool. It was a semi-graceful landing. When I popped my head up out of the water, I was face to face with a tall woman wearing a full burgundy swimsuit. She had long, muscular legs and was overall built like a champion swimmer. She was wearing round, rimless glasses and dark lipstick to match her swimsuit. Her hair was a short bob with choppy front bangs that extended about halfway down her forehead, but it had orange highlights, which was an interesting combination that somehow looked good. She smiled down at me. "Haha, I'll never get tired of watching trainers being flung into the air like that."
I laughed along with her as I pulled myself out of the pool. "I'm Veronica. I've been the gym leader here for over ten years." She stuck out her hand. I shook her hand as I introduced myself.
"Oh, you're the one who beat Blade at that incredible speed!" She grinned. I felt my chest swell with pride at that moment. "Oh, no need to look so shy! I'm interested to see what you can do! Although I will warn you that I've dedicated my entire life to being an expert in water types."
"I'm more than ready for you. Bring it on!" I cheered, her kindness putting me at ease. We both walked backwards so that we were on the battle court, adjacent to the large pool.
"I'm going to sweep you away with a tidal wave of water-type power!" Veronica exclaimed, pulling an Ultra Ball out of her swimsuit pocket.
You are challenged by Gym Leader Veronica!
Veronica sent out Vaporeon!
"Go! Gladlily! I know you can do it!" I tossed out Gladlily's Pokeball so she was face-to-face with Veronica's Vaporeon.
I decided to open up the battle with Vine Whip. Vaporeon winced in discomfort as Gladlily whacked him over the head. His HP depleted by about a half. Veronica raised her eyebrows and nodded. "Not bad. I can see why you bested Blade."
Vaporeon used ice beam!
My breath hitched in my throat as Gladlily was struck by the attack, however, the brittle ice shards simply ricocheted off of her. Although she didn't freeze, her HP was down to 20%. Veronica had scored a critical hit.
"Gladlily, use Tangle!" Gladlily used her signature move of extending her arms into vines, and coiling them repeatedly around Vaporeon's ears, lowering its Sp. Atk.
"Vaporeon! Use surf!" And with that, Gladlily's HP was down in the red zone. I nodded, silently accepting the situation. I decided to try for a super powerful attack next.
"LEAF BLADE!" Vaporeon shuddered as leaf shards scraped against its blue skin. It immediately fainted.
Gym Leader Veronica is about to send out Lapras! Would you like to switch your Pokemon?
I scanned my team and quickly realised I didn't have any good counters against water type Pokemon. I mentally cursed at myself for being inadequately prepared for this, but then I said to myself that the path to victory doesn't always have to be linear. I ultimately decided to send out Stalagus.
Veronica sent out Lapras!
"Stalagus, use Icy Wind!"
Stalagus' sweet sound echoed throughout the gym as he blasted a cold chill in Lapras. However, it seemed luck was on my side as the Lapras was frozen solid. Even Veronica raised her eyebrows in surprise. "Wow! Now that's neat!" She pulled out an ice heal and gave it to her Pokemon, during which time, Stalagus had already landed another attack in the form of Giga Impact. Lapras' HP was halved by this attack!
"Lapras! Use muddy water!" Unfortunately, this attack proved rather effective on my ice-type Pokemon. His HP was already down in the red zone. I had to mentally remind myself that my team didn't need to be perfect; this was simply a learning curve. Yet I decided to use a hyper potion. Veronica's Lapras followed up by using waterfall.
Stalagus avoided the attack!
"I should've listened to Buzz when he was yapping on about how important speed stat is!" Veronica face palmed in amusement. Stalagus followed this with an Ice Beam, which was not super effective, but enough to send Lapras' HP down into the yellow zone.
Stalagus was, unfortunately, taken down, and so I sent out Machop. He didn't find it too difficult to take down Lapras, yet he was no match for Veronica's Gyarados. Eventually, I was down on my last Pokemon, but I managed to somehow scrape a victory. Veronica just stood there in disbelief; it was as if she had been hit with an ice beam herself. "How did you manage THAT?! Most of your Pokemon are vulnerable against water types, but you still managed to flatten me! Now that's what I call EPIC!"
And so I smiled along with her, offering my hand for a fist bump. That victory truly was a miracle.

Sukuna smirked, âFine, whatever you like.â He said, running his fingers through her red hair. âChoose wisely, I donât ask for favors often.â
Aruna sat in her room in front of her vanity, thinking about what to ask from him. He had asked her to seduce another sorcerer to get information out of it. Why Sukuna didnât just torture him, sheâd never quite understand. Some things were too nuanced when it came to sorcerers and curse users.
She sighed, heâd give her anything she asked for? All she had to do was decide what. She could make him promise not to kill her or maybe even set her free. Though was life outside of his domain any better? Sukuna was a prick but he did have his redeeming moments, although they were few and far between.
She finished brushing her hair and put it up with the hairpin he had given her. The spider lily gleamed in the morning sun. She forced the smile away that threatened to form at the thought of how much she loved the golden hair ornament.
A servant knocked on her door before calling her to come out for her morning meal with the King of Curses himself. She got up and followed him silently into the dining hall, where she sat adjacent to her captor and lover. âI decided what you can do for me.â She said, putting on a brave and neutral face.
Sukuna gave her a curious look as their food arrived. âOh? What have you chosen for your reward then, pet?â
She looked him directly in the eyes so that her confidence wouldnât waiver. âI want to you to tell me exactly how you feel about me.â

iNVaDeR FeLL: The Nightmare Begins :: The Irken Empire (which had retained its name even after the shift in management brought about by the events of Operation Impending Doom I) was more alive than it had been in years. Signs replayed message after message redirecting convention-goers how and where to attend the Great Assigning in the Main Convention Hall on Conventia, one of the many planets conquered and repurposed for the good of the Empire. The teleporter ring was blazing almost as brightly as it once did before OID1, only this time, it brought to the surface not Irkens, but Monsters; creatures of every shape and size. They came not only from the 'kingdom' that had overtaken Irk (they called themselves 'Fell'), but those from the 'kingdoms' of conquered worlds as well, which had been expeditiously subjugated in a fashion worthy of the Irken Empire.
How Dance Got a Picture of Lust Covered in Kittens :: "there's sammaches in th' fridge," Red mumbled, feeling the lunchbox lid click shut under his claws. "'r if ya want some'n lighter, there's soup in th' freezer. just gotta nuke it..."
Burlesque Noir :: Lust peeked around the curtain to look out at the crowd, as he had done so many times before the last few days. The speakeasy was full and vibrant and alive as it was every night, as swanky a joint as Grillby could make it and still keep it safe. An Anthology of Nightmares :: Sans stumbled out of his room just in time to escape. He had no idea what was coming, he only knew his years of fighting for his life underground was screaming that he had to move his bony ass if he wanted to live. Just as he crossed the threshold of his bedroom into the hallway, there was a loud crash. When he looked back, his whole room was gone.
A Growing Future :: Red stumbled out of the house, squinting at the glare of sunrise peaking like a glinting knife over the neighbor's rooftops. The air had a crisp chill to it, made all the more shocking by his lack of a shirt, but he knew it would be overly warm in only a few hours, and there was a lot of work to do.

A Night in the Woods :: Red bit back a curse as he once again had to detangle his phalanges from the flimsy tent material. Stupid-ass cheap plastic bullshit, so thin he could breathe on it wrong and watch it disintegrate, but the packaging said it somehow kept out wind and rain, and that was honestly all he could have asked for. That, and perhaps that the piece of shit stop snagging on his claws every five god damn mother fucking seconds, fuck-
Arum :: The room was pitch black, save for a nearly indiscernible ambiance that glowed low and dim like the twilight right before the true darkness of night. The walls and floor of the room oozed with a viscous substance that stank of fermentation and rubber. At the end of the room, upon a throne of black stone, sat a diminutive figure from whence the slime seemed to originate, itself drenched in it to the point of blackness save for the singular glow of one lavender eyelight, shining like poison in the darkness.
Poignance :: Sans Blueberry pulled on his modified gloves, rolling his shoulders to make sure his makeshift pauldrons were cinched tight enough. The scalemail he wore under his chestplate made a soft noise, not quite the clink of chainmail, but not quite the hiss of cloth or leather either. He fingered at the tiny plates over his torso before pulling his bandanna back on around his neck, grateful to Alphys again for donating her sheds, and Undyne for reinforcing them so they wouldn't turn to dust.
Those Feelings at the Bottom of a Bottle :: Ink carefully managed his supply of emotions, keeping his usual level of orange (excitement) and yellow (happiness) as he made his way back through the house. The crowd of people, with their ever-vivid colors and gold-glittered eyes, made it easy to blend in and keep himself inconspicuous to the ever watchful guardian. It was like a game of hide-and-seek: Ink hid, and Dream looked for anything potentially amiss.
A Skeleton Plague Doctor in Lord Dream's Court :: Falsi woke up from a restful sleep on his examination table, shifting under his thick black blanket (one of the few luxuries he was allowed, usually kept hidden away in his bedroom with all the other small luxuries he had managed to keep, like his collection of skulls, his beast fur pelt, his mask, and the tapes and videos of a more personal nature he had collected over the years). He slid down to the floor, thankful once again for the mercy of a windowless apartment, as he folded his blanket and stumbled into the adjacent room: his bedroom.
Bad Day :: Edge was used to getting ominous messages from Red at odd times. It was just the nature of any relationship Red was involved in.
Burlesque (Censored) & (Uncensored) :: Of all the bars Red frequented in Ebott City, this was his favorite.
Happily Ever Laughter :: It was almost midnight. Papyrus had been sitting at Muffet's bar, enjoying his third (or was it fourth? Fifth? Hard to say) glass of Spider Cider, when he got the call. He pulled out his phone, surprised. That was his brother's ringtone. He flipped it open. "heya, bro. wazzup?"
Egg on Arrival :: Slinky could feel it in his bones: the hum of his future, the tremble of his soul. Even if it was still cold as balls outside the nest, his internal clock said it was spring.
I think I'm Paranoid :: Red came back into the livingroom, popcorn in one hand and a six-pack of coke in the other. He lingered, taking in the scene in front of him.
Another Me :: Lust fiddled with the TV remote idly as he mentally went through the available channels in his head. He didn't dare cable surf, not when He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named was so prominent, and Pink's relentless job searching made his schedule so erratic that he could show up at any minute. The sight of the blackout curtain over the bookshelf (which served as the house's movie collection's honored display) reminded him of how understanding Papyrus had been of the need for temporary censorship.
...oh my some of these are terrible for catching the readers attention XD (why are all my hooks like 3 paragraphs in gdi).

Absolute Carnage vs. Deadpool #1, Venom vol. 4 #17, Absolute Carnage: Lethal Protectors #1, Absolute Carnage: Miles Morales #1 Thoughts
Iâm trying very hard to both cover Absolute Carnage in reading order and also not bog down said coverage of the tie ins, iâm hoping to give the main book and ASM tie-ins my full attention but for all the other ones handle them less comprehensively. Obviously that depends upon their respective content.
The Deadpool issue had great art, funny dialogue, a brisk pace, some clever moments and a refreshing acknowledgment that the Peter/Wade dynamic is stupid.Â
Having Carnage acknowledge Deadpool as the motherload of codexes because of his bonding with the 4 Life Foundation symbiotes (a.k.a. also collectively referred to as the Hybrid symbiote) from Wade and Kasadyâs last encounter was a great use of continuity. My hope is the lack of acknowledgement of his time with the Venom symbiote (see Deadpoolâs Secret Secret War and Deadpool: Back in Black) confirms that those stories are not to be taken seriously as canon, at least as far as Spidey or Venom continuity is concerned.
The only real problem is that, whilst the start of the story technically precedes Absolute Carnage, when we get to the symbiote stuff it happens during Absolute Carnage #2 and thus really is best read after that comic as it does give a few minor spoilers for it.
Venom #17 was fantastic!
Now, as I said in my Absolute Carnage #2 post, the plotting is out of whack. Venom #17 should be read BEFORE Absolute Carnage #2!
The story itself, whilst basic, is effective. The Maker is as morally grey (or flexible if you like, get it!) as ever. Dylan is characterized well, believable as the son of Eddie Brock. Normie is underserved but this isnât his story. Something that did bug me though is that the art depicts them as probably about the same age with Dylan dominating their dynamic. But really Dylan should be younger. Dylan was born between Venom Along Came a Spider (1996) and Anne Weyingâs death in like 2000 or 2001. Normie meanwhile was born in the mid-1980s!
Thatâs a small complaint though and easily No. Prized.
Now as for the rest of the comic Cates pulls off a masterstroke in how heâs structured this event, at least in relation to the Venom book.
Absolute Carnage seems set to be the book where all the thrust of the story happens, thatâs where you go to see Carnage and I suspect going forward where you will go to follow Brock/Venom. Meanwhile the actual Venom book is going to be following Dylan, whoâs been adequately built up by this point. It helps make the Venom book relevant but not demand that you go other the same events twice or ping pong between it and Absolute Carnage to see the next part of the story, itâs happening adjacent  to the main events but itâs also not a meaningless side quest!
There is also a lot of great use of established continuity in this book. Venom himself might not be in it much, but his LEGACY is. Dylan is his son (and remember heâs as much the son of the symbiote as he is Anne and Eddie) and so are the Life Foundation symbiotes. The Sleeper symbiote also shows up.
I confess Iâm only vaguely familiar with Sleeper because I didnât read Venom: First Host but I believe heâs strongly connected to Venomâs past, I think he is maybe literally the first host of the Venom symbiote.
There is also an interesting angle in this story because the lead is Dylan, the sidekick if you will is Normie and the antagonists are the family from Separation Anxiety, 2 of which are also little kids. I hope this factors in somehow as it seems there is a theme of family underlying this corner of the event! You could even extend that to Normie as the theme of family, especially dysfunctional family, is very relevant to the Osborns and is obviously now relevant to Venom/Brockâs immediate âfamilyâ as well as the Separation Anxiety nuclear family.
The ar is also stellar. Itâs not Stegman good but itâs still beautiful eye candy and looks enough like Stegman that the change isnât jarring. Iâm very happy Coello did the War of the Realms tie-ins as a taster and âwarm upâ for this in fact.
Just great, Iâm loving this one!
Lethal Protectors #1 was one of the tests for me about the strength of this event.
See of all the tie-ins this was the one I was least interested in. I donât hate Cloak, Dagger, Iron Fist or Morbius, but Iâm also fairly indifferent to them. I only liked Morbius in the 1994 cartoon (though I hear his 90s stories were quite good) and to me Iron Fist is dull outside of when heâs hanging out with Luke Cage.
So I checked this out but only out of a desire to be a completist.
I was fully braced for this issue to be what derailed the eventâs thus far strong batting average.
Nope.
Even this issue delivered.
Granted it also kind of DIDNâT deliver since the cover characters arenât even mentioned at all. Instead the closest thing to a protagonist is Misty Knight. Now I have no hate for Misty Knight but to my recollection her connection to the symbiotes began only in the Web of Venom: Cult of Carnage issue that this continues off from. I suppose having a vibranium arm makes her an obvious combatant against symbiotes, but sheâs got less connection to the lore. She seems more like the vehicle to introduce the above mentioned âlethal protectorsâ into the story. And I guess thatâs fine but either include her on the cover or feature the title characters in the issue.
Thatâs mostly a nitpick though, the rest of the issue is great. More fun violent horror stuff with a creepy romance added on for good measure in the form of Carnage and Shriekâs toxic relationship.
The reintroduction of Demo/Demagoblin was interesting. I knew it was coming and I knew it would be a new female version but the fact that it was Shriek took me by surprise, I was sure it was going to be Lily Hollister a.k.a. Menace. Truth be told Iâm disappointed it wasnât as that wouldâve been an organic use of a pre-established character and wouldnât have swapped out Shriek (who is also very interesting) for Demagoblin.
Itâs not a BAD direction but Iâd have preferred the Carnage family from Maximum Carnage be reassembled differently. But seeing Demagoblin and Carnage make out is delightful in how over the top nuts it is!
They mention reintroducing Carrion and I really, really hope that happens!
The art, whilst not being as good as in other tie-ins is still doing a solid job!
Much like the other tie-ins this series is opening up a new front in this event and exploring it quite well thus far, so Iâd recommend this too!
And as a plus they remember to tell you when this happens in relation to the main event book.
Miles Morales sadly...was the first slip up in this event.
Now Iâve made my criticisms of Miles (in the comics) vocal before and I donât want to sit here and tell you this issue sucked shit or it was bad because Miles was bland in it. To be honest MOST of the protagonists of Absolute Carnage are fairly bland. Miles for instance was a knotch more interesting than Misty Knight.
In fact I wouldnât call this issue BAD at all.
There were just some things wrong with it.
The most noticeable of these was how the events depicted towards the end donât quite jive with the end of Absolute Carnage #2. If you just wrote them down on paper they would seem to. Miles and Scorpion are fighting Carnage cultists, Carnage/Osborn is there in charge, Scorpion breaks away from the fray, Venom shows up, Miles stands alone but is overwhelmed, he is taken over by the symbiotes.
However when you compare the art and dialogue of the two comics there are a number of discrepancies which is annoying because up until now you could make everything fit together one way or another.
Among the discrepancies, and this is a nitpick, is that the Carnage cultists are wearing their Ravencroft uniforms, which IIRC they donât do in any other appearance. A more contrived aspect to them though is Gargan recognizing the tattoo of one of them. How? They are all covered head to toe in symbiote their tattooâs would be obscured!
I also didnât like how the Carnage Cultists were treated as so disposable. My impression was they each have a bona fide symbiote bonded to them so would be on a similar power level to Venom at least, so Scorpion impaling them wouldnât be a big deal, they could heal from that. But they come off more as just super strong zombies, and not even as strong as Venom at that.
Grant thatâs an issue perhaps with the event as a whole but it was most noticeable here.
The other problem with this book is that half of it is little more than a standard superhero fights super villain yarn until halfway through when it abruptly becomes an Absolute Carnage tie-in. It even kind of does that at the very start of the issue where the recap page randomly interrupts the story in progress for no reason, putting it ahead of the first page wouldnât have spoiled anything.
It seems like a waste especially since the cliffhanger is identical to the cliffhanger of Absolute Carnage #2, it doesnât progress the story at all it simply provides some preamble and not particular plot relevant preamble at that. Itâs not that difficult to deduce Miles was probably fighting Scorpion before they were attacked.
Whatâs even more annoying, but not a problem with this book per se, is that the comic discloses that this should be read after Absolute Carnage #2 but similar disclaimers werenât made for other tie-in issues. I donât even think reading this between AC #1 and #2 would make much difference. There arenât any spoilers for AC #2 because it simply depicts the same events regarding Miles in greater detail.
My final problem with the issue is one thatâs more a problem with Miles in general regarding his status in the 616 universe. Letâs put aside how it inherently undermines the character for a moment, the recap page alone shows you how problematic it is to have him migrate to Earth 616. The blurb summarizing Milesâ backstory has to be so ridiculously generalized and use dialogue implying he might be from another universe but could equally be taken as poetic hyperbole. I donât blame Ahmed, I even sympathize that he kind of HAS to write it that way. Itâs just stupid is all and undermines the emotional resonance of Ultimate Venom being associated with the death of Milesâ mother. But then again DID she even die now? See what a mess this is?
I donât want this to sound like this issue was terrible, it wasnât it was just okay at best though sans the art. Absolute Carnage has thus far had good to great art and this issue is no exception.
As a standard Spidey v. Scorpion rumble goes this was fine, it was fun and got the job done, standard superheroics so I canât complain too much. The only contentious part was Milesâ ineffective Venom Blast.
It didnât work because Scorpionâs suit was insulated.
This is a double edged sword when it comes to analysis.
On the one hand that is inconsistent with the Venom Blastâs established power. It can work against electrical powered foes like Electro AND extremely powerful demonic beings like Blackheart. But you telling me some rubber lining enables Scorpion to just shrug it off? Bullshit.
On the other hand though...Miles having a cheat code power like that has always been reductive to his character.
The final thing I have to say on the comic is that the editors weirdly hype up the issue. In other tie-ins they praise Ahmed for reinvigorating the Scorpion, for even making him scary and a straight up killer. Putting aside how he was a fucking cannibal in Thunderbolts and Dark Avengers, Ahmed honestly didnât do anything like that.
Scorpion is a standard supervilalin who DGAF about innocent life or killing, he just wants to preserve his own life and make a payday. He lands some effective hits on Miles and is a threat but...there is nothing revolutionary or reinvigorating about it. Itâs not tired and bad itâs just standard and effective thatâs all.

Joelle gunned the throttle over her hoverbike to overtake the garbage truck, squeezing between its side and the skyway's central divider. rain lashed a helmet visor and beat up on her leathers but her thoughts were laser-focused on her destination. The Wrench-heads had taken someone close to her and she would not be merciful.
Headlights and red-blue police beacons fast all around overwhelmed now and then by the neon glow of holo-signs advertising cars and surgery and bottled happiness, all the things people couldn't afford but told themselves they needed.
At last Joelle saw her turnoff. She slammed the bike right, cutting across a truck that blared its horns angrily, and pumped the repulsors. The bike jumped off the road and sailed through the city night towards the dhining mirrored windows of 37 Albemarle Boulevard.
The window shattered all around her. The bikes front repulsor arch struck the frame and catapulted her forwards. She landed, rolling, upon a long table in a meeting room and tumbled right up onto her feet, twin machine-pistols already in hand.
Confused shouts of alarm went up around her and Wrenchers lifted their firearms to engage Joelle. They barely had time to cock their weapons before Joelle's aim snapped for one to the next to the next and, with six sharp bursts of fire that lit the room up like strobe lighting, they dropped to the hardwood flooring.
She paused only a heartbeat in the silence before running on. She barged through the door and tore down the corridor. The way was lit only by faint red emergency lights but the tower's schematics overlayed on Joelle's vision showed her the way.
She encountered no resistance until she approached the elevator bank. Two hulking Wrenchers opened up with automatic fire, peppering the corridor all along Joelle. She leapt from the floor to run along one wall, bounded to the other, and jumped over the first enforcer's head, all the way avoiding the bullets that tore craters out of every surface they hit.
Dropping to the floor, she pulled the legs out from under one Wrencher with a sweep of her legs. The other dropped his aim, the muzzle pointed right at her head. Joelle span aside and the spray of lead tore his companion's torso and augmented arm to bloody confetti. The thunderous barrage only stopped when Joelle slammed a flash-fabricated blade between his vertebrae. She twisted and pulled it out once more with a wet pop. With a twitch of synthetic muscle, the blade shot back through her wrist to rest inside her forearm.
Joelle stood. In her vision, a red tracker blinked far above on some penthouse level. There was no time to take the stairs. She needed another way.
The down arrow above one of the elevators began to flash. Someone was coming to her.
Joelle forced her fingers between the doors of an adjacent elevator and pulled them open. Beyond, the shaft was empty. Far above she could see the elevator car one land over descending with purpose.
She slipped the pistols in their holders and leapt for the cables ahead. She climbed in the darkness one hand over the other and legs hanging free. At the perfect moment, as the neighbouring car passed, she swung and jumped to land atop it.
Many voices from before shouted in surprise and bullets ripped through the car ceiling, leaving spears of light in their wake. Joelle made herself as narrow as possible and, by some miracle, came away with only ricochets and dents over her synthetic body, though she was sure her leathers were ruined.
The storm fell silent as their magazines ran dry. The Wrenchers hurried to reload. With gritted teeth, Jodie took hold of one thick cable and, drawing a pistol in the other hand, shot out first the breaks then the bottom of the cable itself.
The Wrenchersâ screams were lost in the howling of metal and the air rushing past Joelle's ears as she was pulled upwards at incredible speed. Floors shot by, ten, twenty in a blink, until the shaft ceiling approached and Joelle flung herself against the wall. She grabbed desperately for purchase as she first rose and then fell again. Fail here and she would fall 120 floor back to ground level.
For one terrible moment she knew she would not make it, then through fingers of her right hand caught upon a lip of steel. It buckled under her sudden weight but gave her just enough resistance to get a firm hold on a studier concrete outcropping.
Joelle pulled apart the door and hauled herself up onto the penthouse floor. The bright lights and glaring glass and marble blinded her until her eyes adjusted and she found herself in an unnervingly silent hall. The tracker still flashed a floor above. She was so close.
She took a careful step forwards. The elevator door closed behind her. Two dozen Wrenchers stepped into view from behind columns and plinths, weapons ready and trained upon her. Too many to fight at once and they had the drop on her and her back against a wall.
It was over.
With ten weapons or more levelled upon her at all times, Joelle allowed herself to be stripped of her guns, her knives, the tools upon her belt and hidden in her boots. Her helmet was removed. All the while she did not speak. Neither did her captors until they prodded her forward towards a curving glass staircase.
âHe wants to see you.â
Surrounded at every step, Joelle was led up the stairs and through two sets of guarded, mag-sealed doors into the Bossâ office. The navy beacon disappeared, Joelle having arrived at her destination.
The Boss, infamous, intelligent and brutal leader of the Wrench-heads, stood by the room's great floor-to-ceiling window, looking over the city to the distant boundary wall upon the horizon. At eight feet of muscle and steel, he was every bit the horror stories made or him. In one colossal hand he gripped the objective of Joelle's infiltration, fingers tight around their head like an apple.
âJo,â Kora said with a tear-filled gasp, âI knew you'd come.â
Joelle's guards spread out to line the room. One Wrencher placed her helmet upon the Boss's grand desk, like a trophy.
âIt's going to be okay, baby,â Joelle said. Her face was set, cold and inscrutable.
âAt last, I have plucked the thorn from my side.â The Boss growled each word, grinning darkly. âI don't know what objections you have to my business and, frankly, I don't care. As you have been unmoved by my generous offers of credits or collaboration in my endeavours, you have forced my hand.â
He flexed the thick steel digits of his hand and Kora whined in renewed pain.
âI trust the continued well being of your lover is important to you, so let me be clear. You will do as I instruct, to the letter, I shall not make this person's existence a living hell. Do we have an understanding?â
Across the length of the room, Joelle and Kora shared a long look. Kora gave the smallest of nods allowed by the vice-like grip around her head, and Joelle knew the answer.
âFuck you.â
With lightening speed, Joelle's arm snapped up and launched a blade dead at the Boss's head. His heavy arm blocked it, moving just as quickly despite its great size. She launched two more in rapid succession, missing the Boss and sending a spiders web of cracks racing across the window behind him.
âI wanted to be reasonable with you, but you- AHHAHAHHAHHHHAHHH!!!â
His body, flesh and machine both, convulsed as electricity arced from the blade, embedded in his arm, and crackled over every inch of him. His clamped tight around Kora's head and it, and the rest of her body and clothes, turned to a shimmering silver liquid. A moment later they reformed, unharmed and free from the Boss's grip.
âOpen fire!â The shout went up and the Wrenchersâ guns snapped up but Joelle was already running. She slid over the desk, grabbed Kora around the waist and, with bullets striking across her back and all around, Joelle ran through the window into open air and a 500m drop.
They fell screaming with exhilaration and joy through the neon city, gunfire fading away behind them. They narrowly avoided a delivery drone, then a high-altitude car. The lower levels were quickly rising up to meet them and exhileration turned to anxiety growing towards panic.
Joelle saw their chance for a safe landing and, with the control surfaces of her artificial body, redirected their path to land atop a passing sky-train. They came down hard and, though Joelle punched a handhold in the roof, Kora slipped away screaming.
Joelle grabbed out towards her with her free hand, not far enough, but Kora stretched out her arm to twice it's normal length and their hands held each other tight. Joelle pulled them up and the two kissed at last.
âJo! You saved me!â Kora shouted over the wind.
âBaby, I'm so sorry!â Tears streamed down Joelle's cheeks. âIt's my fault the Boss went after you.â
âShhh, no, it's not your fault. But won't he come after us again?â
âMaybe, but this will slow him down!â
Joelle slipped a small, thin remote from her breast pocket. She looked back to the tower from which they had jumped, now rapidly diminishing as the train sped away. She pressed the remote's single button and in the same moment a blast of fire and debris burst from the penthouse window as the high-explosives packed into the lining of Joelle's helmet detonated.
She looked back at Kora with all the love in her titanium heart.
âCome on, baby, let's get breakfast.â

BEST AREA TO STAY IN DUBAI
When deciding on where to stay in Dubai many first time visitors opt for the areas close to the airport they are flying into or even at a Dubai airport hotel. The neighborhoods of Old Dubai offer so many opportunities for authentic food and cultural experiences as well as the ability to walk to the nearby traditional souks. The neighborhoods of new Dubai offer a different kind of holiday filled with outdoor and beach activities.
OLD DUBAI â Deira, Bur Dubai
Dubai Creek Deira and view across Bur Dubai
The Dubai Creek divides the old city of Dubai into two sections. Deira is on the northern bank of the Dubai Creek and is home to many communities who have lived here for generations. Deira is an option for budget travellers and is popular for having many of the cheapest hotels in Dubai.
The best areas to stay in Dubai and be within walking distance of the Deira souks are the Al Ras, Naif and Al Rigga neighborhoods. They have green and red line metro and bus access.
Hotels range between 1 and 5 stars with prices starting at US$37 per night for a 1 star to US$197 per night for a 5 star hotel.

Bur Dubai is on the souther bank of the Creek and is the best place to learn about the history and culture of Dubai with itâs many museums and heritage sites. This area is popular for those looking for cheap Dubai apartments for rent or good value four and five star hotels.
The best areas to stay in Bur Dubai around the creek and be within walking distance of the museums and Meena Bazaar are in Al Fahidi, Al Seef, Al Raffa and Umm Hurair neighborhoods. There are green line metro stations at Al Ghubaiba, Al Fahidi and Burjuman and bus access.
The Al Shindagha Historic district is where the Al Shindagha Museum, Dubai Heritage Village and Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum house museum are located. The closest metro is at Al Ghubaiba and there is also a bus interchange. It is a short walk to the Al Fahidi neighborhood where the Dubai Museum is located.
The Al Seef District has been developed with the heritage and history of the area in mind and combines sandstone buildings, wind towers and narrow alleys with hotels and an open air floating market and exhibition spaces featuring local arts and crafts.
Hotels around the creek in Bur Dubai range between 1 and 5 stars with prices starting at US$50 per night for a 1 star to US$368 per night for a 5 star hotel.
DUBAI FESTIVAL CITY
This area is located on the east bank of the Dubai Creek waterfront and is also very close to the Dubai International Airport. The new Dubai Creek Harbour precinct is under construction adjacent to this area.
Outside of the hotels and Dubai Festival City Mall it is not really pedestrian friendly or have many other activities or leisure options.
The historical areas of Deira and Bur Dubai are a taxi ride away.
Hotels range between 4 and 5 stars with prices starting at US$95 per night for a 4 star to US$245 per night for a 5 star hotel.
DOWNTOWN DUBAI
Burj Khalifa â a platinum colored record breaking cloud piercing spider lily inspired tower
Describing itself as âthe center of Nowâ, Downtown Dubai is the location of Dubai Mall, Dubai Fountain, Dubai Opera, Souk al Bahar as well as the iconic Burj Khalifa. This area has enough to keep you busy for a few days with metro access to the Red line as well as adequate coverage by taxis, uber and Careem.
The area along Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Boulevard is pedestrian friendly with wide sidewalks and many cafes. However, the roads behind it still have many construction activities and it is not very pedestrian friendly. Even staying at hotels a few blocks away will require a taxi or hotel shuttle to the Dubai Mall precinct.
Most of the entertainment and activities are located in and around Dubai Mall, Souk al Bahar and the Dubai Opera precinct.
Hotels range from the unrated Sleep & Shop at Dubai Mall to 5 star hotels with prices starting at US$23 per night for a Single Igloo Pod to US$790 per night for a 5 star hotel.
The Lofts West and Lofts East are popular options for a Dubai holiday home rental in this area. I visited my cousin when he stayed there with his family and was amazed by the view of the Dubai Mall Fountains from their balcony. Check rates and availability.Â
SHEIKH ZAYED ROAD
The areas on either side of Sheikh Zayed Road between the Trade Center Roundabout and the 5th Interchange at Dubai Marina has many hotels, hotel apartments and self-catering options.
There is access to metro stations on the Red Line and the Water Canal marine stations.
There are many dining options in the residential buildings and hotels but not many other activities in the immediate vicinity.
Depending on your choice of neighborhood you can stay close to Dubai Mall, City Walk, Times Square, Oasis Centre or Mall of the Emirates.
Hotels range between 3 and 5 stars with prices starting at US$54 per night for a 3 star to US$926 per night for a 5 star hotel.
CITY WALK
This is one of the newer areas and was redeveloped over the older parts of Satwa that were demolished from 2007/2008. The traffic around this area is heavy during peak hours.
City Walk is a lifestyle destination incorporating hotels, hotel apartments, residential apartments, childrenâs play areas and an extensive mall with leisure activities for young and old.
There is self parking and valet parking at the City Walk Mall and there are taxi and bus services to this area.
It is very close to the Box Park leisure and retail development and Galleria Mall.
Self catering apartment prices start at US$348 per night and hotels prices start at US$384 per night for a 5 star hotel. The best view of Downtown Dubai is from the rooftop lounge at the La Ville Hotel and Suites.
AL BARSHA
This area is located around the Mall of the Emirates and has metro access on the Red Line. There are many affordable hotels and hotel apartments in Dubai and it is recommended for a longer Dubai vacation and affordable Dubai family holidays.
The Ski Dubai facility is located in Mall of the Emirates and the neighborhood has many options for hotels and hotel apartments.
It is very family friendly and walk-able during the cooler months and there are numerous dining options outside of the malls in the area. Most of the entertainment and other activities are inside the malls though.
The Al Barsha Pond Park is close by and is ideal for relaxation and leisure activities during the cooler months.
This area is located in close proximity to Wild Wadi Water Park and Madinat Jumeirah that are a short taxi ride away.
There are both hotels and hotel apartments with prices starting at US$ 63 per night for a 3 star hotel to US$541 per night for a 5 star hotel.
I lived in this area for five years and stayed in the Holiday Inn Al Barsha for a few nights when I lost my apartment key years ago, and loved the service and friendly staff. Check rates and availability.
BARSHA HEIGHTS (TECOM)
This area is located adjacent to the Emirates Golf Club and Jebel Ali racecourse and has metro access on the Red Line. There are many affordable hotels and hotel apartments although it is mainly residential.
PALM JUMEIRAH
The Palm Jumeirah Dubai view from Sofitel The Palm
There is no shortage of luxury accommodation on this palm shaped man-made island off the Jumeirah Beach coast. A number of Dubai luxury resorts are located here.
Luxury resorts include the Sofitel Dubai The Palm, the Waldorf Astoria Palm Jumeirah, Atlantis the Palm and Jumeirah Zabeel Saray.
There are many leisure activities and dining options in the resorts as well as dining and leisure at Club Vista Mare.
Hotels range between 4 and 5 stars with prices starting at US$114 per night for a 4 star to US$931 per night for a 5 star hotel. There are also apartments and villas with prices starting at US$150 per night to US$2,800 per night.
JUMEIRAH LAKE TOWERS (JLT)
This area is located opposite the Dubai Marina on the other side of Sheikh Zayed Road. There are many hotels and hotel apartments and every cluster has countless dining options. It is recommended for a short or long Dubai vacation.
JLT is accessible via the Jumeirah Lakes Towers Metro station as well as the Damac Metro Station on the Red line.
There are many retail and dining options in every cluster but not many leisure activities or other entertainment options. The Dubai Marina and itâs leisure options are accessible via the Sheikh Zayed Road overpasses from either the JLT Metro station or the Damac Metro Station.
I lived in Cluster C for three years and the area has had many improvements since then but has also become much more insular in some ways. There is valet parking at the hotels but restricted parking at the residential buildings in the clusters.
Hotels range between 4 and 5 stars with prices starting at US$102 per night for a 4 star to US$218 per night for a 5 star hotel.
DUBAI MARINA and JUMEIRAH BEACH RESIDENCES (JBR)
Dubai Marina view
The Dubai Marina area is located around a man-made marina in the newer area of Dubai. JBR is located in the Dubai Marina neighborhood and is named after the 6 communities along The Walk / Al Mamsha Street. Over the years it has come to refer to the entire area between the JBR communities and the ocean. This area is recommended for a short or long Dubai vacation.
The Dubai Marina has completely transformed from a dusty sandpit with a handful of older beachfront hotels and the Gotham City look created by the JBR towers when I first arrived, to a thriving residential neighborhood.
There are retail, dining, entertainment and leisure activities aplenty along Marina Walk as well as in many of the residential and hotel towers.
The premier hotels in this area include The Address Hotel and Residences adjacent to the Dubai Marina Mall and the Ritz Carlton at the Walk JBR.
Hotels in Dubai Marina range between 3 and 5 stars with prices starting at US$86 per night for a 3 star to US$326 per night for a 5 star hotel.
JBR is the premier destination for a beach holiday and has numerous accommodation, dining, retail and leisure options.
There are holiday apartments as well as four and five star hotels including The Ritz Carlton, Hilton and Sofitel Jumeirah Beach with direct private beach access.
Hotels in JBR range between 4 and 5 stars with prices starting at US$118 per night for a 4 star to US$287 per night for a 5 star hotel. Two bedroom holiday apartments range from US$200 to $817 per night.
THE BEST PLACE TO STAY IN DUBAI
The best places to stay in Dubai are those resorts, hotels and apartments that have a good balance between location, amenities, proximity to beaches, Dubai landmarks or the top attractions in Dubai. The prices may vary wildly over peak festival periods and New Yearâs Eve and you are advised to book early and avoid disappointment and high prices. Many Dubai hotels have compulsory booking for their New Yearâs Eve ball and this should be taken into account when deciding where to stay in Dubai.
In preparation for writing this detailed post I stayed in many types of accommodation in numerous areas between Old and New Dubai. This allowed me to experience the guest rooms, dining, amenities and customer service at different types of accommodation providers; from boutique hotels and independent operators to popular local and international chains. My stay cations were self paid, with any additional benefits or upgrades available to all other hotel guests and loyalty club members.
My requirements included:
Ground floor accommodation or an elevator to access the upper floors.
3 to 5 star hotel price per night including breakfast (because who rents a room and doesnât give you breakfast).
Free cancellation
On site restaurants or within walking distance of eateries.
All hotels and apartments have a 24 hour front desk, and guest rooms have private bathrooms, flat screen tvâs and a desk as well as a kettle or coffee maker with refreshments.

Where to stay in Dubai â Hotels in Deira Dubai
This is the place where bargain hunters come for shopping in the souks and to experience Old Dubai at itâs grittiest. The abra stations along both sides of the Dubai creek make it easy for visitors to move between the Deira and Bur Dubai if they want to visit the historical areas.
This area is busy. Certain roads will have slow moving traffic at peak hours and the areas around the souks are especially chaotic now that there is very little street parking on the roads closer to the creek and construction sites.
Affordable: Hyatt Place Dubai / Wasl District
Hyatt Place Dubai / Wasl District is located on the main road between the Naif and Al Rigga neighborhoods, near the Fish roundabout. The closest metro is Salah al Din on the Green line.
It consists of a 202 room hotel and apartments with free internet access for guests.
The interiors and decor are modern with clean lines and there is a gym, pool and sun terrace.
There is also an on site restaurant and bar if the surrounding neighborhood eateries are not to your taste.

Deluxe: Radisson Blu Deira Dubai Creek

This was the first 5 star hotel in Dubai inaugurated in 1975 and is located on Baniyas Road in Deira.
The low rise building is not as flashy on the outside as the newer towers but the interiors and 288 guest rooms and suites are newly renovated and modern.
It is located on a busy road that sees high traffic volumes during peak hours but is also 400 meters away from the Union square metro station and interchange, on the Red Line, if you want to use public transport.
I had originally requested to check in between 2-3pm but when I arrived after 3:30 pm the creek view room was still not ready. The duty manager overheard the guest relations staff telling me that I would have to wait but that she didnât know long it would be until the room would be ready. He took over my check-in and promptly upgraded my room to a Junior suite as one was available. There was no charge for the upgrade.Â
The suite was enormous with a king size bed, sitting area and balcony as well as a separate dressing room area adjacent to the king size bathroom. There were balconies leading from the bedroom and the bathroom (this one had a better view of the creek).
When I went down for dinner in the evening I approached the restaurant reservations desk (there are 9 restaurants in the hotel and annex). I couldnât decide where I wanted to go for dinner and the restaurant staffer Ben, who assisted me asked if I would be interested in the hotelâs Eid dinner promotion. Over the 4 day holiday they were offered a buffet dinner that showcased all the best dishes from all of the restaurants and it sounded like a bargain I could not refuse.
When it came time to pay the server informed me that Ben was actually their manager and that he had told them to give me a 50% discount on the dinner rate.
The restaurant staff are lovely and helpful and ensured that all guest needs were attended to, including the families who had young children with dietary restrictions.
My only disappointment was with Housekeeping and the fact that the hallway to the guest rooms on the 5th floor smelled like a stale locker room. There was some kind of air blowing device apparently to help the carpets dry but that only caused the nasty smell to permeate into the guest rooms.
There is no pillow menu and the pillows on the bed were the worst I have ever slept on. A request for non-feather firm pillows brought a sullen bored looking housekeeper to my door who brought even worse ones, that I declined. I would recommend placing a request for your pillow preference at the time of booking.
The boarding area for many of the dhow cruises is across the road from the hotel. During the cooler months it will be lovely to stroll along the creek side or even down to the souks.

Luxury: Le MĂŠridien Dubai Hotel & Conference Centre
This sprawling and luxurious resort is located near to the Dubai Airport Terminal 1 and is accessible via taxi, Careem and uber.
There are 589 rooms and suites and the extensive landscaped gardens are an oasis of calm in the midst of big city madness.
There are 18 restaurants and bars on site and guests are spoilt for choice with the variety of entertainment options.
They have a spa as well as a fitness center and 4 swimming pools.
I have attended work conferences and events at this hotel and their service and food has always been impeccable.

Where to stay in Dubai â Hotels in Bur Dubai
This is the place to stay if you want to immerse yourself in the cultural heritage and history of Dubai. Many hotels are within walking distance of the Al Fahidi historical neighborhood, museums and cultural landmarks of Bur Dubai.
Affordable: Queen Elizabeth 2 hotel on a cruise ship

This 13 deck floating hotel is located in the refurbished and renovated Queen Elizabeth 2 cruise liner that is permanently docked in Port Rashid. I booked a stay here for my birthday because I wanted to experience something different.
There is valet parking and self-parking available on site but it is a distance from the main road so an airport transfer, taxi or uber is recommended if you are not self-driving.
The hotel check-in area and reception is in a new custom built land based structure and has a lobby lounge and retail area.
There is a full duty free section in the ship where guests can purchase chocolates, nuts, gifts as well as jewelry and other luxury goods.
A porter will assist with carrying the luggage to the guest room and also explains how to navigate around the ship. A few of the recreation areas and eateries were closed during the summer but will re-open for the peak season in the cooler months.
The internal construction on the lower levels of the ship was still underway during my visit but did not cause any noise or disturbance.
My Deluxe guest room with sea view was very spacious and the AC inaudible, although the room was always fresh smelling and the perfect temperature to be comfortable during summer.
There are narrow elevators as well as stairs to all the decks. Certain elevators donât go to all the levels as I found when I wanted to go back to my room from the duty free section.
I enjoyed the marina and ocean view at breakfast and dinner in the all day dining restaurant as well as at afternoon tea in the Yacht Club.
There are historic heritage tours held on the ship at various times during the day and are free for hotel guests. All you have to do to take the tour is go to the meeting point 10 minutes before the start.
If you have ever yearned to take a sea or river cruise then this is a good way to try out whether you are able to handle the sense of confinement. I didnât realize how much of a landlubber I was until I imagined myself unable to move from the boat onto dry land for any amount of time.

Deluxe: Al Seef Heritage Hotel
Al Seef is a newly redeveloped lifestyle destination featuring a hotel, 90 dining and 350 retail options on the same side of the Dubai Creek and lying just east of the Al Fahidi district.
The Al Seef Heritage Hotel has a unique decentralized hotel design and is in the style of an old Arabian village with houses, retail areas, squares and outside entertainment. The development is walk-able and the hotel also offers rides on their golf carts to and from the restaurants, cafes and bars.
190 guest rooms of the Al Seef Heritage hotel are grouped across the development in 22 low rise multi-story bayts or traditional the Arabian villas, and each guest room has itâs own entrance around a common courtyard or hallway. A security guard is stationed at the ground level reception area of each bayt to ensure that only registered guests access the upper floors.
The guest rooms are not enormous but they have comfortable beds and the attention to detail in the furniture and fittings is something else. The Souk View rooms donât have much of a view so a Creek View room is recommended.
There is no gym or swimming pool but guests receive free tickets to the Laguna Water Park at La Mer.
My favorite dinner here was at Kimâs Singapore Seafood restaurant in phase 3 of the development, where the off-menu Seafood laksa recommended by the manager was so good I wanted to lick the bowl.

Luxury: Palazzo Versace Dubai
This hotel is located on the furthest edge of the Bur Dubai district in the Al Jaddaf Waterfront near the Dubai International airport and has spectacular views across the Dubai Creek.
It is built in the style of an Italian palazzo and the interiors (soft furnishings, furniture and decor) of the 215 guest rooms and suites and 169 residences are designed and made by the Italian Fashion house Versace.
There are 8 restaurants and bars with interior and exterior terraces and three outdoor pools.
The hotel provides complimentary shuttle services to Festival City, Dubai Mall and Dubai Parks and Resorts theme parks as there is not much going on around that district yet.

Hotels near Dubai Mall
The hotels around the Dubai Mall command high rates for their spectacular views over the Dubai Fountains. There are much cheaper options on the other side of the road and you can take in the amazing view for free from the Apple store in the mall.
Affordable: Ramada Downtown Dubai
This property is located next to the Dubai Opera and has 181 guest suites with stunning views of Burj Khalifa, Dubai Fountains or the city.
All apartments have fully fitted kitchens with dishwasher and washing machine and there are amenities like a gym, badminton court, an outdoor swimming pool and kidâs pool and indoor and outdoor play areas for children.
There is an all day dining restaurant and lobby lounge cafe on site as well as 24 hour room service.
The hotel provides complimentary shuttle services to Jumeirah Beach Park and the metro station and it is a short walk from the Dubai Mall and Souk al Bahar.

Deluxe: Vida Downtown

This hotel is located in the Old Town district of Downtown a few blocks away from Dubai Mall and is part of the local Emaar hotels brand. It was previously known as the Qamardeen hotel before re-branding as a family friendly urban business hotel.
It is within walking distance to Dubai Mall and there are numerous eateries along that strip of road. Regrettably at the time of my stay in summer they did not offer any complimentary shuttles to Dubai Mall and the Heritage tram was not operational.
The design of this urban boutique hotel is reminiscent of an Arabian palace with an entrance that is light and airy and feels very welcoming.
Ultra-modern guest rooms range from Deluxe suites to two bedroom Boulevard Suites and there is a swimming pool and fitness center for guest use.
I stayed in a Junior suite and it was enormous but still homey, with Nespresso coffee maker as well as flat screen tvâs in the living room and bedroom.
There is a courtyard where the outdoor swimming pool and covered cabanas are located.
The hotel has the 3in1 on site restaurant on the ground floor, the Stage2 lobby lounge and bar as well as the La Serre French bistro and boulangerie that are attached and accessible from the veranda.
There is also a mosque located behind the hotel and adequate sound insulation to keep out any street noise.
This may not be the most expensive hotel in Dubai or the most flashy but it was the one that I enjoyed staying in the most. I love the atmosphere and ambiance of the hotelâs modern interiors, well lit public spaces and guest rooms and find the subdued muted colors very calming.

Luxury: Armani Hotel Dubai
The Armani Hotel Dubai is the flagship hotel of the Emaar Hotels group in Downtown and is adjacent to Dubai Mall and has direct access into the mall.
This fabulous hotel located across 11 floors of Burj Khalifa has 160 guest rooms and suites and the premium Fountain suites have views overlooking the Dubai Fountains.
This hotel was featured in the Mission Impossible movie Ghost Protocol where Tom Cruise scaled Burj Khalifa with suction cups while being pummeled and body slammed against the building by crosswinds.
Interiors are minimalist Japanese inspired elegance for the guest rooms as well as the seven on-site restaurants.
The hotel has a spa and outdoor swimming pool and .

Dubai Marina Hotels
The Dubai Marina is the place to be for entertainment, outdoor living and leisure activities in New Dubai. I lived in this area when I first moved to Dubai and at that time the only buildings were a few of the older hotels on the beach front and a few towers on Al Marsa Street (Dubai Marina Road). There was no public transport to the area except for Dubai taxis. Now there are two metro links, a tram line as well as bus services throughout the Marina.
Affordable: Marina Byblos Hotel
The Marina Byblos hotel is located near to the JLT metro station access and a tram station in Dubai Marina. It is within walking distance to Marina Walk and JBR.
There are 184 guest rooms and suites that are decorated in a beachy modern style and have city or marina views.
There are 8 on-site restaurants and bars including a SkyBar on 10 near the rooftop pool.

Deluxe: Dubai Marriott Harbour Hotel and Suites
Located at the start of the man-made marina this hotel is reachable by taxi or uber.
Guest suites have sea views, marina views or Palm Jumeirah views and offers apartment style serviced suites with fully fitted kitchens and washer / dryer.
There is a lobby lounge cafe and restaurant, a traditional British restaurant as well as an Observatory Bar and Grill on the top floor offering panoramic views of Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah.
There is an outdoor pool and fitness center as well as a full service spa.

The Address Dubai Marina hotel and Dubai Marina Mall are part of the Emaar brand and has special offers and seasonal discounts throughout the year.
The hotel is adjacent to the Mall and the construction of the hotel, residences and mall kick-started the development of the Dubai Marina neighborhood 14 years ago.
There are 200 guest rooms and suites as well as 442 serviced residences all decorated in calming neutrals.
There is a spa and fitness center as well as an outdoor swimming pool.
The hotel is very popular with couples and families and on weekends has themed brunches for children in the Mazina all day dining restaurant. There are two further restaurants, a lobby lounge and a poolside bar and restaurant.
There is direct access to the Dubai Marina Mall from the hotel with many more dining options and an array of cuisines. The Marina Walk is accessible from the hotel and there are also numerous food trucks and entertainment activities for children.
This hotel is located near to the Dubai Marina pick up points for many dhow cruises, the Dubai water taxi and other waterborne excursions.
Those wanting an urban zipline experience can walk over to the mall to buy tickets and enjoy the experience zipping between the towers and across the marina.
The hotel is within walking distance to JBR and The Beach Mall but if you donât feel like walking there is also a tram station right opposite the mall main entrance.
The Constellation Ballroom offers one of the best iftars during Ramadan and it is one we often go to for work functions and team building. It was also my late motherâs favorite Dubai iftar.
I had reserved a Deluxe Marina View King room but when I checked in at 3:30 pm it was not yet ready. Without skipping a beat the lovely guest relations associate assigned a Grand Room Marina View that had a separate living area with flat screen tv and a small balcony with table and chairs.

Best Beach hotels in Dubai
Affordable: Park Regis Boutique Hotel

This independent boutique hotel is a stoneâs throw from the Umm Suqeim Public Beach and opposite the beach park, and really is a bargain of a lifetime.
There are only 21 guest rooms over 3 levels and the decor is neutral with pops of color.
There is no pool or gym although it is a short walk to the beach as well as Wild Wadi Water park.
The hotel has an on-site urban Balkan restaurant where guests can take their breakfast and offers many Balkan and Eastern European specialities. I must confess that I was very surprised at the quality and spread of the breakfast because it was generous and very delicious despite being a set menu.
I will recommend the 21 Grams restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner even if you are just having a day out at the beach. I waited a few minutes at check-in for them to confirm that the guest room was actually ready and was presented with a glass of sparkling fruit juice to refresh and revitalise.
To make up for the wait, I was moved to a higher floor and a guest room with a big terrace with table and chairs. The average size rooms are very modern and airy with a beachy feel to the interiors and decor.
The mini-bar with complimentary juices, nuts, potato crisps and date cookies were a nice touch and much appreciated, especially since this is a small independent hotel.

Deluxe: Jumeirah Mina AâSalam â Madinat Jumeirah
The Mina AâSalam hotel is the first of the three hotels, summer houses and villas that make up the expansive Madinat Jumeirah resort.
The expansive resort is connected by a private beach, landscaped gardens and waterways with golf carts and boats available to transport guests between different areas
Guest rooms and suites have an ocean or resort view and guests have complimentary access to the Wild Wadi Waterpark.
Guests also have complimentary access to Talise Fitness with itâs high altitude suite and climbing wall.
There are 7 on-site restaurants and bars and a total of 50 dining establishments within the resort, all accessible via a boat or buggy ride.

Luxury: Bulgari Resort, Dubai:
This luxury resort is located on Jumeirah Bay, itâs own seahorse shaped island off the coast of Jumeirah.
The hotel offers 101 elegant and high tech guest rooms and suites as well as 20 villas. There are also private mansions as well as 173 sea facing apartments across 6 residential buildings.
The resort has an indoor pool and fitness center as well as a spa with a hammam or Turkish bath.
There are six bars and restaurants as well as a yacht club and private marina.

Best beach hotels in Dubai for Dubai family holidays
The best beach hotels in Dubai for family holidays are resorts with the facilities and amenities to entertain parents as well as children. The family sized rooms are larger and provide a second queen bed or sofa bed for children.
Affordable: JA Ocean View Hotel:
This hotel is part of the local Jebel Ali Resorts brand and is located on the beachfront at Jumeirah Beach Residence and is accessible by taxi and uber. The nearest tram station is a few blocks away.
There are 342 sea view guest rooms and suites that are suitable for a family of four (2 adults + 2 children).
There is a spa, health club and gym and access directly to the beach from the swimming pool level.
Children have their own pool, kids and teens club as well as a covered outdoor playground.
In addition to the five on-site restaurants and bars guests also have access to the restaurants and cafes along The Walk at JBR and the Beach Mall.

Deluxe: Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeirah:
This is one hotel that is consistently sold out, even in summer and is located on the Eastern Crescent of the Palm.
There are 319 guest rooms and suites with sea facing views.
The hotel has a private beach and the water sports center offers boat tours, kayaking, snorkeling and pedal boating. There are also tennis courts, a fitness center and two temperature controlled outdoor swimming pools.

Luxury: Sofitel Dubai The Palm Resort and Spa:

The Sofitel Dubai The Palm Resort and Spa is located on the outer frond of the Palm Jumeirah and is an expansive resort consisting of a hotel and hotel apartments.
The resort has a Polynesian theme and feels like a tropical paradise from the moment you enter the grounds. All guests have access to the hotelâs private beach.
The front access security officer Apollonia, the porters and other service staff welcomed me with such enthusiastic and sincere greetings that I could not help but smile.
My Luxury Room with King Bed was spacious and comfortable and had a very big bathroom / toilet and shower area.
The guest rooms range from Classic rooms with king beds to Two Bedroom Opera Suites and come with a mini-bar and bose station in addition to the flat-screen tv and refreshment station.
I would recommend rooms with resort or Palm views because the sea view rooms overlook the main road and unless you are on high floor you wonât actually have any sea view.
There are 16 dining establishments including a steakhouse, two all day dining restaurants, as well as French, Italian and Asian options. In addition, there are also outdoor bars and eateries near the beach. The three pools and childrenâs play areas are also in close proximity.
There is an onsite So Spa with twenty eight treatment rooms, a high tech So Fit gym as well as tennis courts.
There were two things that I loved at this hotel aside from the family friendly ambiance and wonderful tropical resort feel inside and out. The first was the fact that they exhibit the works of local artists and the art is for sale. The second was the incredible living green wall with 170 types of plants.

In this Death End Re;Quest Chapter 4 Guide, Iâll be going over the path to clear the fourth area of the game and itâs boss. Death End Re;Quest is a unique RPG game that merges the typical JRPG and allows players to convert it into a fighting game, shooter, or even a slot game. There are other subtle quirks that the game possesses that will be simple to execute but difficult to master.
Death End Re;Quest Chapter 4 Guide
Upon reaching Chapter 4 of Death End Re;Quest, players leave the Outskirts and continue to the The Phantom Abyss. It will also take players to the Alhaoi Wilderness and Rizaria Forest Dominium before facing off with bosses Ripuka and Scorpia. Follow our guide to navigate the monster filled journey and not miss out on useful items!
Outskirts (Godot Ruins, The Phantom Abyss)
Upon leaving the Outskirts save point of the Godot Ruins, The Phantom Abyss follow the tree roots to the end and cross the bridge on the top right. There will be a chest tucked behind the fallen log, at the top right location containing 1 Kuwait Manacross (66 ATK, 30 MAT, 60 MDF). At the dead end path, there will be a chest containing 1 Gowen Grass. To the North there will be location where Shinaâs environmental ability, Spider Rodeo, will be able to be used. Players should see a wooden scaffold-esque object and a green circle on the ground. A chest containing 1 Amethystomagear (75 ATK, 40 MAT, 80 MDF) will be the reward.
Cross the bridge and head to the left to find 5500 Eni in a chest. On the opposite side will be 1 Godot Relic inside the chest. Head inside the open gate, obtain the Odd Candlelight to the right of the tree root, and then climb up the large tree root. There will be a Beast Clan Scarf at the top of the rootâs platform. Grab the key item nearby to trigger a cutscene; afterwards descend the tree root adjacent to the key item.
Make a left at the base of the root and follow the path until the end to find 1 Plas Phonspear (150 HP, 90 ATK, 60 DEF) inside a chest. Proceed back to the base of the root and make your way to the right to find the Beast Clan Coat inside the lone chest.
Head to the real world and enjoy the several cutscenes that will progress the main story further. Once that is done, head back to Worldâs Odyssey and continue through the large stone opening to reach the next area.

Alhaoi Wilderness
Follow the path to the first open area to find 2 Patch 4.0 located inside a chest. This place has a tent area, which acts as a save point, and also has a line that will engulf players in cutscenes. There will be a Beast Clan Coat to the left and 1 Divine Elixir to the right after the cutscene area. Travel to the next section and obtain the Enolefâs Ether and the 3 Code Salve in the chests.
Rizaria Forest (Grand Tree) Dominion
In Rizaria Forest, there will be another save point and a tent that can be found to the left of the bridge. Cross the bridge to grab the Code Salve 222.0 before the cutscene. Pick up the High-Elf Tonic after the cutscene and proceed straight. There will be a wooden scaffold-esque object that players will be able to use Shinaâs Spider Rodeo to obtain the Garenasnal Magia. To the left of this structure there will be 6,500 Eni and the Elfâs Guidance. Collect the Elven Dust just before the ! then use the Elfâs Guidance to cross the gap. There will be a Beast Clan Coat and ! to receive a cutscene. From there, pick up the Code Salve tucked in the corner and approach the 4 teleporters.
Take the left teleporter to see more cutscenes, then proceed to activate the second teleporter. Donât miss out on the Japanese Doll, the item inside the chest. Take the teleporter back and enter through the newly activated portal. Use Cleaâs Avalanche environmental skill to remove the door blocking passage to the Dark Horn. Investigate the key item to have roots create a bridge to a purple teleporter. Donât enter it right away as there is a Ancient Branch to be acquired in a chest. Proceed through the teleporter and re-trace your steps to then activate the third teleporter.
Enter through the third teleporter, investigate the key item to cross the newly formed bridge allowing passage through the final teleporter. This will take players just outside Lucilâs village but first head to the real world as Arata.

After the cutscenes, enter the village, and be sure to save at this point. Obtain 1 Code Salve before seeing the cutscenes. Follow the only path in the village picking up 1 Code Salve 2.0 and entering the teleporter adjacent. Inside there will be 1 Red Quartz. Pick up the Elfâs Heart outside the blue teleporter and enter it. Grab the Weird Key, then enter the teleporter which will lead you back to the first key item we couldnât interact with. Now with the Weird Key in hand, a light bridge will appear. 1 Croatation inside the lone chest will appear before the cutscene. After the cutscene has finished, there will be 1 Ancient Branch and 3,333 Eni.
Enter the blue teleporter, turn around to the left to obtain 1 Code Salve 2.0. Follow the path to the next area while picking up the 1 Enolefâs Ether before getting ready to fight Ripuka.
Mini-boss: Ripuka, The Slaughterer
While Ripukaâs stats look weak compared to other bosses found in Deaths End Re;Quest, she is a force to be reckoned with. Her defensive stats seem to be extremely high, or it could be the game is giving her some God like Armor. Regardless, players have 2 choices in this fight: lose on purpose or wait out several turns to fight another boss.

Ripuka will target Shina so its imperative to have all girls triple guarding. Despite triple guarding Shina, it may not be enough, but the goal is to prolong the amount of turns so the fight can be finished. The better your team fares in the Ripuka fight, the higher chance of success in the next fight.

Players will fight the Chapter 4 boss, Scorpia right after the fight with Ripuka, so be prepared.
Boss: Scorpia
Scorpia will be an extremely powerful Entoma Queen on Hard Mode since players will have to fight this boss right after fighting surviving Ripuka. Take the first turn to heal your Shina and any other party members. The team role I used was Shina, Clea, and Al. Shinaâs and Cleaâs type advantage will be able to deal heavy damage to Scorpia and Alâs tanky-ness will help her survive and deal damage. If players use the most powerful attacks I have listed above, it would only be possible for 1-2 turns as those skills require a lot of mana, and/or is combined with low SP pool. We will counter that issue by summoning Ephemera because due to Ephemeraâs special effect, the girlsâ max SP pool is increased by 30%. It also recovers their SP, something thatâs not listed.
Avoid using Lily to deal any damage as Scorpia counter attacks her often. Avoid putting all the girls in a close circular proximity as Scorpia has a tendency to use Scorpiaâs Code, which is a wide â Sun Type AOE attack.
Defeating Scorpia grants players 29,760 Exp, 8,000 Eni, and 1 Ultra Ogre Brew.
