here's our talksprites for splatoon's Grand Fest, since we didn't have guests on this time i figured why not give us outfits? since our whole gimmick is being dollar store knockoff idols, i figure we should wear knockoff grand fest outfits! Frankie (@friendlyfrankenstein) did color work over my initial sketches (see pics 3, 4, 5) based on this beautiful piece. Frankie had a really clear idea for this from beat one and his color work really made this shine! He's always fun to work with on designs like these :) The hardest part of this one was definitely painting the chrome top a la Frye, but I'm happy with how it turned out, thank you 'add glow' layer settings.

meanwhile the bug found a dog (shrimp?) harness at the dump and the rest is history (the text on it says 'aggressive', initially it said 'anxious' but i thought well why not lean into how aggressively i play splat). you can see me futzing with various hats and trying to figure out what to do with the bug, before I realized I really dug the Y2K look Deep Cut had, and I remembered I always thought the bugs' tiny sunglasses reminded me a little of Matthew Illiard in Hackers (1995), so why not lean into that too? When I showed this to the group chat, Puzz spotted it IMMEDIATELY and i was very happy, lol

The past is a good way to learn from mistakes, but it's over and done. The future is cool to think about and want to strive for but it can always change for better or worse.

Overall, the past and future stress me out lmao but, the present is guaranteed. I have more control on what I do today.

WHAT IF Riddle and Yuu started developing feelings for each other while hiding from Jade/Floyd? What do you think that would look like? Angsty?

I haven't considered it, as Riddle and Yuu are meant to have a sibling relationship in PTM and so the idea of that kinda doesn't exist in my mind lol.

I'm having a bit of a hard time thinking about such a scenario, but I can imagine a case of Riddle and Yuu somehow entering a fake dating scenario to get the twins off their backs, lol.

You'd think Riddle would be the sensible one and shut it down upon the immediate suggestion from you, but the moment he becomes aware of the extent of Floyd's feelings and hears that ominous “Goldfishie~” from down the hall, all sensibilities exit out the window and splat against the stone path like an egg.

Suddenly, very loudly mind you, Riddle is ever so sweetly asking, “So, my dear,” he says it like the words leave a bad taste in his mouth, “where would you like to go for our next date? The cafe in town? Cater always gave it his highest regards!”

You might want to get rid of the scrunched up look on your face, like you just swallowed a bad lemon, or else the twins won't believe it. Though, based on the shared look between them, you don't think they do anyway. In fact, they even look…amused, as you two awkwardly lace your arms together and avoid eye contact with the crowd staring.

The twins do so love playing with their food, and you two just made the little game of cat and mouse so much more funny than they expected. So you two are dating? They never would have guess, since they've never seen you two kiss, let alone lace your hands together. Rumor has it that you two are faking, why don't you disprove the rumors by sharing a kiss right here, right now?

Even Riddle can't hide his cringe, as you two share a look, disgust in both of your eyes that you can't hide. Despite Riddle very loudly telling them that they need to mind their own business, they won't stop pestering you two until you either fest up, or disprove the rumors that they started, though is it really a rumor if it's true?

alright so, I thought I might say some words about this

for the better part of my life, splatoon has always been something I loved. I loved the idea, the aesthetic, everything. I hope you all know my username is based off of an older version of my OC, which was also an inkling because yeah

so, be me, obsessed with Splatoon, the reason I got my first game console, and an escape from reality I had (should be said I never played the first Splatoon, I started in Splatoon 2 after the final fest)

I made it pretty far in splat 2, and then came along splat 3, and I don’t know what happened. I played for the first few months and kinda just… fell out of it. and yeah sure it’s just how life is. you grow up, things get in your way, and you find new interests (which for me was Homestuck)

then the final fest got announced. “holy shit. already?” I said over and over again. so I dusted off my switch, got online, and played

Renchanting Splatoon AU

More Splatoon AU! This time with these two bastards. You know the drill! Rambles + bonus context under cut

Ren and Martyn go way back, like Octolings being trapped underground far back in Splatoon 2 before Octo expansion.

Originally, they were both soldiers deployed to Octo Canyon, that's how they met! Ren's the older and taller of the two, also tallest from his section. A lot of their scars come from their time serving, from falling debris or what have you. Ren has the most character building so lets hop into that.

During his time serving, Ren was stationed on a stage where Agent 4 (or the protag from Splatoon2) had to use a charger to get around the stage and splat enemies. They wouldn't know the effects of this until they were freed and released to the surface.

After they were released to the surface, they all took off their Octoshades for the final time. While the other Octolings were amazed by the bright, warm sunlight, Ren could hardly see a thing, the bright light over powering his vision. After taking so many brightly colored charger shots to the face, his eyes had developed a light sensitivity forcing him to wear sunglasses wherever he went. His eyes were blue, but because of the yellow charger shots over time his eyes shifted from light blue to a lemon-lime-y yellow. Idk how to describe it.

Martyn and Ren were already close from serving together, so when Ren had trouble seeing, Martyn would grab his hand and lead him places, even sharing a flat together.

I see them as queer platonic partners. Ren is Aroace while Martyn is unlabeled, not really caring enough to put a label on whatever he has going on but he does experience some romantic attraction but that's not the driving force behind them

Martyn keeps spare sunglasses for Ren on hand, just in case :] and sometimes Martyn will also wears sunglasses so Ren doesn't feel awkward for wearing them in stores or inside buildings, etc.

Unfortunately due to his condition, Ren isn't able to participate during Splatfests so instead they have their own party for the weekend and anyone who isn't going to be participating in the fest are always welcome to join them.

I don't know if you've noticed but Ren has a HARD resting bitch face (rbf) because of his sunglasses. You'd sit across from him on the tran and he'd looks so displeased to be there until you actually talk to him and he's so bright and bubbly to talk to. Martyn has a more expressive face but I'd say his default expression is focused.

RIGHT. I ALMOST FORGOT.

Ren is a Splatana Wiper main and Martyn is a Gold Dynamo Roller main. I have more thoughts and headcanons about them but I think I'll save it for another post.

Regardless of who wins, this was a really fun fest.

I got genuinely emotional just now thinking back on it, and splatfests in general. I have so many good memories of my friends and I in middle school gathering at someone’s house, buying a ton of junk food, and playing until the sun came up. And this weekend, despite most of my friends grown up and almost always too busy to play Splatoon with me anymore, we were able to do that, one final time.

I don’t think this is truly it for the franchise, it’s one of Nintendo’s biggest money makers, but I know it’ll be awhile before we have a splatfest again, if those are ever coming back for whatever new game lies ahead. If this truly was the final splatfest *ever*, it was an honor splatting with you all.

Thank you, Splatoon, for giving me some of the best memories of my life.

And as we bid farewell to Splatoon 3's final regular update, I look back on the past two years of splatting and salmon running and find myself craving even more.

Speaking as someone who's played since the Wii U original, Splatoon 3 has its pros and cons compared to its predecessors--but it offered a lot of welcome Quality of Life changes and new game mechanics that make battling feel so much better than before. The roll and surge were huge game-changers for me, I feel more freedom of movement than ever before in these games.

While the single player modes weren't all that groundbreaking lore-wise, they were still fun in their own right. I'll always rank 1 as the best main story and Octo Expansion as the best expansion, but I still loved playing them when they first came out. With this era basically over, who knows where are humanoid cephalopods will explore next?

As for the Splatfests themselves... err maybe adding a third wheel wasn't the best idea in the long run. Each fest was basically a one-sided affair, with a certain shark-loving octoling taking the most wins. I get that it's hard to balance a huge multiplayer event like this (you're talking to a long-time Altador Cup player), but things felt super-skewed this time around. I doubt adding a fourth item would be much help either, but that's just me.

Whatever comes with Nintendo's new hardware, I hope they can take this franchise even further. Until that day comes, I'll still be playing in the Splatlands so I'm ready for 'em. However, there are other places that still need my attention... and a lot more coming down the line.

not that anyone cares but. captain 3 has had a rough time getting back into normal life and didn't participate much in grand fest, however he did offer to help with directing and security. captain 3 joined team past because callie and marie have been there with him since he was 14 and just became an agent, he also misses being a kid and not having been traumatized from being an agent. agent 4 was team future, she hopes for a better tomorrow, a day that will be better than today, something bright and hopeful. agent 4s had a rough life, growing up in a small town and always wanting to be part of something bigger, and when she finally thought she had that being an agent, everyone seemed to ditch her. (it's better now though). agent 8 is team present, mainly because of pearl and marina, but also because he likes to live in the now. he stops and smells the roses, he takes time to appreciate the sunsets, even though things aren't perfect right now, there's always something to appreciate. neo 3 is team future, they grew up in the splat lands and have always had that city grit in them. they learn from the past and apply it today, then tomorrow they try even harder. anyway that's my rant on my splatoon agent ocs my headcanons and my lore sorry for yapping guys. i promise i will draw them soon. please stay tuned.

My favorite game mode is Salmon Run, I like grouping together with other players and defeating hoards.

And as much as I like Off the Hook, because they're my favorite out of the idol groups, I'm on team past!
