Note
You mentioned that some of the most well-written fics you've come across are tomarrymort so do you have any recs?? Bc I love and agree with your interpretation of Harry but I haven't found a lot of people who write him that way
Okay, I've gotten a lot of fic recs asks, so I'll explain again that I don't really have a fic rec list and why.
I used to read a lot of HP fics like 3-4 years ago, but not anything recent, so I don't feel comfortable recommending a story I don't really remember anything about. Now, there are two reasons I kinda stopped reading HP fics:
1. The more I wrote, the more incapable I became of reading like a reader. Instead, I often found myself reading like an editor and going: "Oh, I'd rephrase this sentence to remove 3 words," which sucks when reading fic.
I sometimes manage to turn it off, but it kinda sucks the fun out when I don't switch it off properly. This is 100% a me problem and why I just chose not to engage with fics often times.
2. I decided to reread the books 3-ish years ago after I haven't looked at an HP book for about a decade. After my reread I found none of these fics I loved fit the image I had in my head for the characters and/or the wizarding world. The stories were still well crafted, but I couldn't enjoy reading them without seeing the discrepancies from canon. Not even talking about my own headcanons here, just, canon proper.
All this caused a situation where I don't really want to read any of the fics I loved because none of them really portray the story/world/characters I want to read. Again, 100% a me problem, so I just stopped reading. I stopped searching for HP fics entirely.
But I still wanted to read HP fics. And a lot of them. So what did I do?
I wrote them for myself. I have so many unfinished HP fic wips in my docs. I'm talking about 70 wips here ranging from 6K to 70K words. There are so many and most of them aren't going to ever be finished (A matter of Chance will be finished because I have a plan and I promised). Some of the older ones don't portray the characters and the world the way I would now because my writing (and view on the wizarding world) has changed throughout the last few years of analyzing the books the way I do now.
This is why I can't really recommend something I read 3 years ago, because 3 years ago my thoughts about the characters and world-building were different and I can see it in my own works too.
So, sorry, I just don't feel comfortable reccing fic since I haven't read any recently enough.
