tate’s sleepwear is very 90s boy-next-door. half the time, he’s in those vintage-looking striped tees—horizontal stripes in muted colors, the kind that might seem kinda baby-ish now but somehow work on him. baby boy. the rest of the time, it’s a band tee, nirvana or the smashing pumpkins. for bottoms, he’ll either grab his track & field shorts (you know, the short ones that look kinda fruity) or a pair of boxers. if it’s hot, he’ll ditch the shirt completely. on colder days, he’s in one of those sweaters paired with green checkered pyjama pants.

⟢ 𝐊𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐋𝐊𝐄𝐑.

kit’s all about practicality. hot weather? briefs. nothing else. he’s not into anything restrictive or fancy when he’s sleeping. when it’s colder, he might throw on some soft flannel pajama pants and a white undershirt, but only if it’s freezing.

kyle’s sleepwear usually includes an old college club tee—something from a campus event or charity run—or a nerdy sci-fi shirt with marvel, star wars, or star trek designs. for bottoms, it’s always something cozy, like well-worn sweatpants or flannel pyjama bottoms, usually in neutral or plaid patterns. his clothes always smell nice because he’s that guy who uses fabric softener religiously and actually knows how to do laundry properly.

wife-beater and boxers, no questions asked. he’s the type to sleep in just his boxers most of the year because he doesn’t see the point in layering up unless it’s absolutely freezing. when the weather does turn colder, he’ll trade the tank for a plain button-down.

james wouldn’t dare wear anything less than a matching set of black silk pajamas, tailored to fit him perfectly. the initials “J.P.M.” are embroidered in silver thread on the pocket because, of course, he’s that extra. to complete the look, he has a matching silk robe—also black, with a silver trim. probably has a nightcap too.

⟢ 𝐑𝐎𝐑𝐘 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐇𝐀𝐍.

“actor off-duty” typa fit. his go-to is a plain, perfectly-fitted t-shirt (you’d think it’s basic, but it’s actually some high-end brand like james perse) paired with plain sweatpants. if it’s getting chilly, he’d swap the tee for a well-worn hoodie, but even that’s designer, probably with a well-hidden logo no one notices unless they know fashion. cashmere socks because his feet get cold in winter. rory’s all about comfort, but it’s the kind of comfort only a celeb with a fat paycheck can pull off.

⟢ cult leader .ᐟ 𝐊𝐀𝐈 𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐎𝐍.

kai would 100% sleep shirtless, wearing those loose, low-slung grey sweatpants that sit dangerously low on his hips, showing off that delicious v-line because. he a whore. when it’s cold, though, he’s layering up with a sweater or plain hoodie—the kind a tech bro would wear without a second thought. or black thermal shirt paired with fleece joggers.

⟢ 𝐀𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐑𝐒.

austin’s sleepwear is all about luxury. he’d wear a high-end silk robe, probably from something like tom ford or balenciaga, in sleek b & w pinstripes or a classy paisley print. It’s the kind of robe that looks expensive without being flashy—tasteful, refined, and just a little bit sexy. he’d leave it slightly open at the chest, showing off just a sliver of his pale skin (scandalous! what a slut!). he’s also got matching slippers, and an eye mask for when he needs to block out sunlight.

⟢ 𝐏𝐄𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐌𝐀𝐗𝐈𝐌𝐎𝐅𝐅.

he’s got a collection of band tees that double as sleepwear, (pink floyd or rush). then, of course, there are those absurdly dorky graphic tees that are so bad they’re good—like the “nacho average guy” with a cartoon taco or a random graphic of a turtle. peter’s pyjama bottoms are often cartoony and childish. think patterns like cartoon superheroes, or those old-school looney tunes characters. they’re soft and comfy, of course.

⟢ 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐈𝐍 𝐙𝐀𝐁𝐄𝐋.

simple and comfy. he’d throw on a plain cotton shirt and wear boxers. when it’s warmer, he’s in boxers, but when the temperature drops, he’s switching to a long-sleeve thermal shirt to stay warm. his pajama bottoms are a staple—those brown, white, and black checkered plaid ones, they’re slightly worn in from frequent use, but he looooves that soft, lived-in feeling.

The way I paint is honestly a hodgepodge of methods. I’m in no way a professional painter or visual development artist - I work like this because it’s a nice change of pace from my usual stuff. But here’s a look into my process!

I work in glazes, then I build up to full opacity when I render. This way, whatever subject I’m painting melds with the background color. I prefer my pieces having low contrast and details. I save the most contrast and details for focal points and areas in direct light.

I’m also mindful of what direction my brush strokes are in as a way to sorta replicate traditional painting. It tends to do some heavy lifting in terms of indicating form. ((I love low effort things with big payoffs yippee!!))

It’s really noticeable in my last painting but I add these borders when the subject’s colors contrast too much with the background. By adding that transition border, it makes the subject feel less like a sticker and more incorporated into the background.

When painting portraits, my focal point will usually be the face and eyes. So I prioritize all the rendering and information into that area. Everything else outside that zone is kinda a mess of colors, shapes, and brushstrokes - but it’s ok because it’s not the priority. (Also the above pics are WIPS so if I finished them, it would be a bit more refined…)

Somethings I did in 2022 that kinda exemplifies my points. Although if I did these again, maybe I’d bump down the contrast and make it more focused??

Again, painting is not my main thing!! I just do it for fun and it’s meditative and when you're a storyboard artist, you miss colors…

I always strongly recommend studying contemporary and classical painters who have a stronger, articulated grasp on this matter. I’m just noodling around most of the times.

Dancing in the Dark, With You Between My Arms

YES! THE BOYFRIENDS! THE BABIES! THE SWEETHEARTS! THEY'RE HERE! (And yes, the title is a reference to a song by Ed Sheeran. I believe it's called "Perfect".)

This is, by far, the most interesting drawing I've done. For one thing, there's actually character poses. For another thing, two characters are actually interacting with each other! And it doesn't look bad! It looks natural! Yes!

I've realized that my most interesting drawings are made from my messiest sketches. I think I focus too much on trying to make the sketch look good, so I'm unable to get most of my ideas out. With this drawing, however, I really wanted to just get my idea out. I didn't focus on making it look good. I just focused on getting the idea across. This resulted in a very messy sketch of Siffrin and Isa dancing together at night. I loved the concept, so I made a refined sketch on a different layer. Actually, I tried to do the line art, but since the sketch was so messy, it just turned out looking like sketch that was a lot clearer than the original sketch. Using this refined sketch, I was able to draw the line art. (By the way, this scene is happening post-game.)

I spent some time coloring it. I added hints of purple on Siffrin's outfit because I wanted it to stand out a little bit from the stark-black sky. By the way, his outfit is based on Loop's design. I have no reasoning for this other than I just thought it was fun. Also! FUN FACT: I'm making a Siffrin bobblehead in my art class. I'm planning on painting Siffrin's cloak kinda like this outfit. (I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get away with just painting him with white paint, so I felt like this was a cool way to incorporate some color in his outfit.) I've already finished sculpting the clay, so I have to wait for it to dry or whatever. I really hope it doesn't blow up in the kiln. I'm really worried that I missed some air bubbles in the clay, so ha ha, that's another thing to give me anxiety! Okay, moving back onto the drawing!

I used the stars to experiment with lighting, and I think it turned out nice. Though, I wish I added more stars. I feel like that would've made the background look more natural.

By the way, this was my first time drawing Isabeau! I think he looks nice in this, but I did mess up his pants. For some reason, I didn't process that he wears striped pants. I don't know. I'm not even sure what the name of what I drew him wearing is. Eh, whatever, it was still fun to draw, albeit more complicated. Another fun fact: I've been drawing Siffrin from memory this whole time. I didn't want to look up references because I was afraid of seeing spoilers. The more I draw them, the more accurate they become. Also, I've spent a couple of minutes analyzing their design while I've been playing the game, so yeah, that helps. But I did need a reference for Isa! ....What? Don't judge me! His design is more complicated than Siffrin's!

Final Fun Fact for this drawing: Siffrin has a darker blush that Isabeau. Okay, bye!

hello! you've probably been asked these before, but i'm here to ask how long it typically takes for you to make animatics, if you have any tips, preferred methods, and what you use? i saw your funger animatic and it looks absolutely gorgeous! i love all the detail that's jam-packed into the art and story telling, so i'm curious about your animatic process.

Hi! I don't mind answering some questions!

First things first, I'm not a professional storyboards artist. I've done a few things for some youtube channels. I wouldn't call myself an expert. This is to say that my method of doing things might not the best for people who actually work in the industry. 

Most of the time I work in Storyboard pro 7. But honestly, any editing software works as long as it can handle pictures and audio. For the disco elysium animatic I only used  clip studio paint and some random editing program called Camtasia. It worked alright but it takes a bit longer to finish stuff since storyboard pro is more streamlined. My go-to method right not is to draw the backgrounds in clip studio and the characters and editing in storyboard pro. That way, I get the best of both worlds. 

The funger animatic took about 2 and a half weeks to make. It usually takes longer, but the song wasn't that long so that saved me a lot of time. But as another example, my disco elysium animatic took +3 months. So it really depends. I did work longer on each frame for that one tho, so idk. On average, it takes me about 2 months. But that number keeps going up since my expectations of myself keep rising. 

Anyhow! I'll be bringing up my fear and hunger animatic as an example of my process. 

My animatics usually start out having the ugliest thumbnails known to man. It does let me experiment with framing and timing, which is absolutely crucial. I do not recommend that people start refining frames without having planned out things beforehand.

After that, I just save every thumbnail and import it to storyboard pro. I just scale it up to the current canvas size. Then I just line up every frame with the audio. It is a little bit tedious but you gotta do what you gotta do. 

After that, I begin to draw the backgrounds in clip studio. I do the same thing as in storyboard pro and just size the thumbnail up. And then I just sketch over that! Technically, I could have drawn the backgrounds in storyboard pro. But their brushes are pretty uggo so I prefer to not do that :)

As dumb as it might sound, it kind of stresses me out when my storyboards aren't "pretty". Which is pretty stupid since storyboards are literally made only to be a guide for what an animation should be. so in actuality, it's alright if they're kinda crusty. But since I never intend to animate my animatics I find it nice to spend more time on each frame. Which is sorta stupid because I'm shooting myself in the foot by working so long on every frame...

Either way, after that, I import the new backgrounds into storyboard pro and begin to draw the characters. Technically I could draw them in clip studio as well. But its faster to draw them in story board pro and it also allows me to do some semi-animated things and work faster. So, after a lot of experimenting, clip studio backgrounds and storyboard pro characters is the way to go for me! 

And just to note. This animatic might have only taken about 2 and a half weeks. Which sounds pretty good. But when it comes to animatics I can become a real workaholic if im inspired enough. So every day after school I would sit non stop working on this from the second I got home to when it was time to sleep. As well as every second of the weekend after I was done with my chores. So that is to say I work pretty fast and persistently, which i know is not healthy or realistic. So take my timing with a grain of salt. 

But that's kinda my process. I just draw backgrounds and draw characters until the thing is done. 

If I had to give any advice, I would say it's important to have fun when making animatics as a hobby. When I make an animatic, it's because I personally want to see that animatic, and if other people like it, that is a plus! If you're excited about an idea, it'll be a lot easier to add fun details and soul into it. 

But yeah that's it. I can't really come up with anything else to say. I hope I gave some good insight!

Before I go into my little blabbering session about my own junk, like, gosh! Doing this was so cool and I feel I've improved so much! Seeing all the other pieces done by others was really awesome too! The highlight in fact which is par for the course of this kinda stuff. But still! Everyone did so well and freaking amazing! So much pretty arts! So many differing interpretations and art styles. Golly! Should totally do something like this again cus this was such a nice experience :))

Post Game - This one's pretty simple. Put them in their Future Foundation suits which are just suits behind a beach that is vaugly Jabberwock. And, they blush cus gay. Had fun with the TV effect and making it somewhat old looking. That's about it. Though, the more I look at it, the more Byakuya looks like he could be snapped in half like spaghetti which I guess is something ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Marriage - This one is the one I did first and is a lot more refined. Decided to take this one in a bit of a different direction too. Instead of them actually getting married, they instead are just playing around with a fake certificate that they photoshopped and printed from online. At least for me, how I read them is that they don't actually get married. Like, they live together in the same place, sleep in the same bed even, but they don't get married. OR, if they do get married, it's small and just a legal document. No big wedding or anything as, the time they are probably at the age to marry, they're already tired of big stuff like that. It'd be a big event and they'd want something more small and quaint instead, either hanging out together or maybe it's Makoto's idea to invite their friends along for the occasion. This is just how I interpret them though. Also, I find it funnier if they just fake it or they never do but Byakuya SO put Makoto in his will and Makoto also secretly put Byakuya in his and they just never tell the other until one of them croaks first. Either that or Makoto says it openly that Byakuya's in his will and the heir just laughs it off, underestimating Makoto and his determination on the will. Also, speaking of them dying, if it's Byakuya first, old man Makoto's taking the gesture well though emotional cus the rich man dead. If it's Byakuya though, he's obviously sad but also sees the will and a part of him goes "CURSE YOU, MAKOTO!!". Not seriously but because Byakuya's thinking of how Makoto didn't need to give him stuff after his death cus I feel Makoto wouldn't skimp out. He's putting all his family and pals in his will as one final send off. He'd make sure that will was the best it could be! Also, I feel Byakuya would feel weird that he's in the same will as Makoto's family and, no matter how long they've been together, it's just so strange. Even when he's gone, he still has a way to make him feel. Gosh, this got kinda sad um... One other thing I wanna mention of this piece is that Makoto either stole Byakuya's tie or he got his own matching one. Also, Byakuya in pretty dress! I had to! Oh, and Makoto totally got help writing his name cus it's in English and Makoto's kinda ass at it. They are totally standing for a picture too. Maybe they got one of the gang to take the pic or they set it up with one of their phones. Or maybe Byakuya just got a really expensive photographer for this and also booked a painter to paint this photo into a painting to put on their bedroom wall. That is equally plausible. And to think that I contemplated and even teased the idea in my head of drawing these two getting fake married with an Elvis impersonator. That might have been a bit TOO goofy though O_O

What I think the preferred look/form The Lords in Black would take in human form would be.

I love their human forms in NPMD just as much as the next guy but it's clear to me at least that the fact they were summoned at the highschool by teenagers influenced what form they took. So what if they had a favorite human form and what would it look like?

(These are just my ideas feel free to share your own)

Pokotho: I think the outfit he went with in NPMD was similar to his preferred outfit, just much less refined. I would imagine he would want a fine three piece navy blue suit with bright blue lines, a bright blue button up shirt, a gray neck tie designed with patterns to resemble the meteor and fine shoes that match his suit. As for the body itself, it would probably be more masculine with gray hair and bright blue eyes. (I also want to throw in my head cannon real quick that because of Yellow Jacket he doesn't like being in human form, it reminds him of the time part of him was stuck in that body.)

Bliklotep: This might sound a bit weird, a tourist look. Think about it he runs an amusement park and his look in NPMD to me gives off a "wallflower that knows every secret of the school" vibe. So I thought that an outfit for a vacation to a tourist trap to do some people watching that could pass as a normal outfit would work. He would wear black knee length jeans, a purple Tshirt, purple high top converse shoes, and sunglasses with a purple frame and orange tinted lenses. For the body I think he would go for something more gender neutral with bright red-ish orange-ish ginger hair with purple streaks long enough to tie back and purple eyes.

T'noy Karaxis: He would definitely go for a classic mad scientist look and not care about making it look good or worry about having too much yellow. He'd wear yellow pants, a yellow-ish orange-ish shirt, yellow shoes, a yellow lab coat looking thing, a watch on his wrist and on his head a head band with goat horns. His body would probably be more masculine with short messy really blonde hair and yellow eyes. And one more thing, his picture in the Black Book showed him with six fingers on each hand so his preferred human form would probably have six fingers too.

Nibblenephim: This one's a bit tricky. His NPMD form gave off a "preppy popular cheerleader" kinda vibe. Which makes sense as that's what most Honey Queen winners probably are to some degree. But I also think he'd prefer something he could comfortably eat and eat in. Then again he probably wouldn't care that much about looking neat while stuffing his face with food. He's also the one who seems to like more feminine looks. So for now this is the look I came up with. A loose flowy barbie pink shirt with sleeves that exposes the shoulders showing the straps of the black tank top underneath, a more soft pink mini skirt with leggings that are black near the bottom and change to pink as you go up, and pink shoes that are nice and have a bit of heel but aren't the fancy sparkly high heels. The body would be gender neutral leaning feminine with long honey blonde hair long enough for a nice updo with bangs that cover his pink eyes.

Wiggog Y'Wrath: He would definitely wear something nice and expensive looking. His NPMD form gave off a "rich preppy prom king" look, his title is The Lord in Black and I feel like he's the most prideful of the five though Pokey would be a close second. He would wear a green sweater vest with black tentacle looking patterns over a slightly lighter green shirt, green slacks, nice green shoes and a bright green ascot tie. His body would be more masculine with short light brown hair and green eyes.

My first draft of a Halloween Town Vor design. Just a doodle while I try to figure it out. (She's a fairy and a sphinx).

Though this probably won't be the final design, and I may even change my mind about the creatures I picked, here's some design notes to explain my current thought process:

Nomura has stated that his Halloween Town designs for Sora, Donald, and Goofy mix two different creatures together to create a more unique design (Goofy is Frankenstein's monster and a werewolf, Donald is a mummy and an invisible man, Sora is a vampire and an imp) so for the sake of pursuing authenticity, I wanted to make sure that my design incorporated two creatures as well.

Though a fairy may seem like an odd choice at first and something that would fit Christmas Town more (sugar-plum fairies and all) I'm thinking of the more traditional concept of a fairy that is mischievous and a little bit dangerous. (Though certainly if Vor were to visit Christmas Town, I think her design would become that more benevolent and cutesy kind of fairy.) Which I think fits Vor pretty well: she seems small and sweet, but don't underestimate her.

I wanted to balance the mischievous side of Vor with her observant/wise side (she's named after a wise Goddess after all), so I thought a sphinx would work there. Thus the lion paws and tail. In addition, the sphinx is known for asking people riddles, which I felt made for a nice reference to the Magic Mirror that's so important to Vor's story in the game, since it, too, speaks in rhymes and riddles. The sphinx also has eagle wings along with their lion body, which I think allows her sphinx and fairy side to be incorporated together well enough, since both creatures share the design element of wings. (Also, the big rope bow on Vor's back in her original design kinda resembles wings already). I tried to do something sort of similar with her ears, giving her the long ears of a fairy but adding fur to the tips to give it that cat-like appearance. Again, trying my best to marry two different creatures together that have vastly different visual aesthetics. Could be better, though? It's kind of hard to mix them together and make it look good/cohesive, I think.

I noticed two things about Sora's Halloween Town design that I felt were relevant and important for Vor's design: one, though Sora's design is drastically changed from his default KH1 design, the silhouette and shape of his clothes is mostly the same. And two, Sora's crown charm still exists on his Halloween Town design, it's just been changed from a necklace to a brooch on his bowtie. In light of these two things, I tried to keep Vor's clothes relatively the same shape with just some minor changes here and there (such as simplifying her big collar and making her shoes look more whimsical and fairy-like). And much like Sora's crown, I kept her "Terra's Mark" emblem (that's the canon name for it apparently), and just changed the ribbon around it to be more curly and Halloween-esque.

Vor has two different prints/designs on her original design: a column of circles on her sleeves, and curved rows of circles on the bottom of her jacket. I changed the sleeve design so the bottom-most circle is a yellow cat eye, which I think feels appropriately sphinx-like and Halloween-y. As for the design on the bottom of the jacket, I'm not quite sure I like it. I just changed it to a simple spiderweb design, because (1. I thought it would look nice there and (2. Sora's Halloween Town design has the jack-o'-lantern mask, so I felt like a more "cliche" Halloween motif was needed somewhere on Vor's design; the eyes just wouldn't cut it. If I end up refining this design more, the cobwebs may be exchanged with something more fitting.

And finally, the most obvious and simple to explain change...her color palette is now much more desaturated to match Halloween Town's gloomy, dark atmosphere. Though I did depart a bit from Nomura's approach here: for Sora, Nomura made his color palette almost completely black/grey/white. For Vor, however, I felt her original purple and gold color palette already lends itself well to Halloween, so I decided to keep her color palette relatively the same, just desaturating it heavily. I also simplified her palette in areas, such as making her belt a plain blue instead of its usual brown/gold/white, and removing the gold from her shoes.

Gray: "She's come a long way." Brud: "Me like Wenduh. Wenduh say me stinky. Me no stink. Wenduh bit mean. But still like Wenduh!" Garnold: "She's pretty alright. She teases me though. Oh, and she broke a bunch of our equipment once, and Clukr gets all agitated thinkin' about it, so…she can't really visit the lab anymore until we're both extra sure that she won't wreck anything." OWAKCX: "U- Uhhrrgh…s- s- she reminds me of someone…b- b-…bad…" Sky: "Wenda is so cool! She gave me this piercing on my ear in secret! She can't babysit me anymore though."

Mr. Sun: "Oh, yes, the Sassy one! She can be charming at times, but I wouldn't fall for her little tricks and bribes so easily! It can be tempting, though. Look at her, adorable!" Durple: "Wenda, my dearest bestie! She has been my right-hand lady since the very beginning, before we even moved into this town! I will not spare the personal details, but we have helped each other through troubles and tribulations! If there's one person in the world I'd want to live with for eternity…it would be her." Mr. Tree: "Her eyes…they seem exhausted, though she hides it under her eyeshadow. I know that look…" Simon: "Wenda is awesome! Sure she gets into a couple messes, but she's still the best at being her preppy, sassy self! And she's a great friend, especially to Durple! Kinda makes me wanna get closer to her and be her friend too, but I don't know much on how to gossip. That's their thing, ain't it? Oh, and she makes me look nice before events sometimes! I'd always look like a whole new Sprunki with her makeover, haha!" Tunner: "I'm still waitin' for her ta' tend to 'er 100 hours of unserved community service. I don't appreciate her giving my sonny an ear piercin' either. But…I don't really hate 'er. She just needs ta' learn that she can't get 'er way all the time."

Mr. Fun Computer: "She makes a great co-host to my gameshows! Her spunk is the key that makes it all feel extra special!" Pinki: "Wenda has such refined taste! She's given me recipes for foods I've never heard of before! Not just baked goodies, but anything that can be cooked, really! She says it's what people like to eat in the Big City. Sometimes they have funny names, but they come out quite good! I'll stick to my sweets, though. Heehee~! It's my thing!" Jevin: "Pointed ears, sharp as her words, Wenda may have lots to learn. Her eyes avoid my perceptive gaze, but I see the hidden kindness on her face. One more thing; she finds me chilling. Her reactions always send me giggling."

Black: "Can't really stand her sometimes. She thinks a couple coy looks in the eyes would get her free passes to do anything. Sorry, lass. The world doesn't work like that. Can I also just say how much I hate how picky she is? If it were something revolting I would understand, but she once hesitated to bite a hotdog. A HOTDOG. Imagine that?!" Saves: "She's a sweet young lady, I think. That's how I feel looking at her…I can't quite remember what our interactions were about, but…I do feel that she's good at heart." Ciqu: "Abysmal. 100 hours of community service can't do justice. She needs to be scrutinized and kept in a controlled environment." Sprinkles: “She’s pretty cool! She’s helped me pick cute outfits for things before and I like sharing my secrets with her. She’s got a lot of confidence! I hope to have a lot of that too when I grow up!” Calvin: “She’s awesome. She’s pretty laid back and basically lets us do whatever we want when she would take care of us. Like she let Sky get his ears pierced even though his dad got super irritated about it! I know she would do the same for me…but I don’t wanna get her in trouble again.”

Taffy - Pass. Same issue, looks too young. Also, she has a bit too much going on with her outfit for me.

Dila - Smash! She looks really beautiful and elegant. The full body stocking suit is really hot too. Her sword is also pretty awesome, looks like a galaxy greatsword!

Bansy - Smash. She looks like a lot of fun to hang out with.

Retrospective of my Beatles Albums Retrospectives

I'm not sure how to write a snappier title than that! Anyway...

12 Albums, 4 Bugs, 1 Band. And me, having a look, listen and a think at their work and writing it up~ However, while I successfully got each review out in time for the First of each month, I can't say everything was necessarily up to the standard deserved by such a body of work. But then, I also think most of what I said still holds, so this is also a summary as well as a few little corrections or instances where I may've changed my mind on individual songs. I wanna keep my original, possibly flawed, ones unedited to better compare now, and possibly again in the future ;3

And now I'll summarise each, with the Moniker I assigned them with each review. Which I now see was originally to indicate the quality, and became more esoteric and tailor made in time lmao XD;;

Please Please Me – Decent!

Decent feels a bit like faint praise for my liking, and if I were trying to arrange the Albums by quality order, PPM would not be the lowest! It's charming and impressive and I docked too many points on the covers just as they didn't write 'em. As someone who can never see a live performance by 'em, let alone a Cavern Era type gig, this is all the more novel and valuable <3 Therefore I'm bestowing upon it a new moniker of Foundational !

With the Beatles – Improvement

Again I'm annoyed at how simplistic that is, and its not giving due credit to either it or PPM. The same flaws with my approach to covers apply too, but at least 3 of those are actually stand outs on this assortment (Please Mr Postman, Till There Was You, Devil in her Heart), and the Originals that I like most, It Won't Be Long and All My Loving, are absolute bangers. As with PPM, I will give it a new one-word summary... this shall be Elaboration

A Hard Day's Night – Uneven

Yeah, that one still holds up, and it does still irk me how the weaker half of the album drags the iconic and really nice songs down. And part of it is the passage of time and standards shifting, but there's a quiet undercurrent of spite, even in the prettier songs, which I find a little irksome. Like how If I Fell, in the midst of a serenade, finds the time to comment on how the Ex will suffer..... yay? Oh, John!

Beatles for Sale – Burnout Album

I mean, that's literally what it was XD;; However again I have a lot of fondness for it, and the covers ain't all my cuppa tea but I dig several anyway. However I kinda wanna drop 8 Days A Week from my Best 3 grouping and instead put I'll Follow The Sun there. Ironic as IFTS has a similar surprise spite section but 8 Days is indeed more paint by numbers for these here Bug Boys.

Help! – Promising

I think this is where The Beatles reach the perfection of "Old Beatles" style. The themes aren't that distant but everything's refined. The only song I outright think is out of place is Dizzy Miss Lizzy, and I think that was brought in as a quick replacement when they couldn't get Wait up to standard, everything else seems more intentional, even if I'm not wild on all of them. The titular song is bizarrely underrated for a well known number, and Yesterday foreshadows the more varied instrument use and genre dabbling.

Rubber Soul – Amazing

This might be my favourite of the albums, albeit not The Best and some of the numbers here are outclassed by later songs with the same theme, and yet I really dig this Experience. I came down pretty hard on Run For Your Life, but the tedious truth is that it's still an absolute banger, just one where I feel I gotta write an apology to Women after grooving to it. It's the first album I'd consider No-Skips, the first to use a Sitar (for better or for worse lol) and also the first song with a Girl Main Character, so there's lots of fun to be had here :3c

Revolver – Revolutionary

While Revolver leaves a high water mark, it's one I find to be polarised between songs I absolutely love and ones which I kind of dislike. And of course, this is the point where the Sounds become newer and less orthodox and more noteworthy. Unfortunately I am still not impressed by George's whopping 3 songs here =w=;;; – But I find it quite telling that a fab bit of rock in the form of And Your Bird Can Sing gets lost in the shuffle of other landmark songs from one album. So like, a very valid fave album for many, but I prefer a couple others~

Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band – Intelligent

This one is a bit of a paradox. It's a very strong, impressive album. However for some reason it was the one most touted as The Greatest, which I would disagree with. But, the backlash to the hyperbole also goes too far and doesn't give this fun musical experiment and proto-Concept its flowers, which it does actually deserve! Not as The Greatest Of All Time, but as a look at The Beatles, Edwardian Style, and Liverpool itself, through glass coloured by cool and varied music. And getting robbed of Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane is a shame, but this does still have A Day In The Life as the grand finale!

Magical Mystery Tour – Eclectic .....oops

I... didn't notice at the time that I used the same Snappy One Liner for two albums! In a row! Oh my god!! (In my defence, it does fit both, but the idea was to have a different one for each! Fuck!). Retconning this one as Esoteric instead ^w^;;;;;

Anyway yeah. The MMT (Soundtrack Album) got pumped up with two incredible singles, and All You Need Is Love, and also Baby You're A Rich Man [which I've warmed up to a bit since, but not fully lol]. But they weren't really supposed to be there... As for the songs that were part of the Strange TV Special's soundtrack, it's pretty harmonious and themed, with interesting choices like a lyricless (but not vocal-less, there seems to be A Cappella chanting) song in the form of Flying, and a horrible dirge that I can't stand listening to with Blue Jay Way. But the Paul and the John songs here shine very brightly~

The Beatles [The White Album] – Eclectic

Yeah, I mean. This is the very definition of Eclectic, ain't it? Like Revolver in the polarised song types, but MOOORE. More songs, more wildly varied tones, more duds that I outright avoid, but still more absolute bangers. But!! More duds, or songs that jar so harshly with my own musical preferences, at least, that I have a harder time with this one. If I was feeling more generous, I'd say there's more for everyone, but I also like the Beatles when they make songs that sound Good, y'know? Not to box them into a genre but this feels like Quantity at the cost of Quality.

Let it Be – Sombre

HOWEVER all the criticism I have for the White Album is pretty minor compared to this somewhat underwhelming assortment. Which would have sounded a lot better if it didn't have a deranged, vile, disgusting, scummy, moronic, abusive, terrible excuse of a human being and record producer pissing all over it. BAD.

Y'see, some of the songs are really nice, some are just alright but, ghhhhh, I actively avoid listening to this whole thing and the stupid ass "wall of sound" claptrap. 'Oooh let's cover all the actual music with loud blaring orchestra so the actual compositions are hidden from ears' ...you can tell The Industry was up its own ass that drowning out the real music was seen as a good move. Insane, and not in a fun way, it just makes me angry and sad.

Abbey Road – The Best

Fortunately, the REAL last album by The Beatles is a tour de force of amazing, uplifting, thoughtful and indeed very catchy numbers~ I've only talked about it recently, and at quite a length too, so I won't repeat myself too much here. But it really is their strongest Whole Album of the lot, so even the songs I find weakest are still extremely popular (Maxwell's Silver Hammer, which I think is overrated lol) and enjoyable. And, god, what a Beautiful finale it is!!

But before I wrap this up, I wanna highlight the Hidden Gems (or in some cases, most underrated song) of each album... using the Cool Taglines I made for said albums [don't worry, it's in the same order too lmao] !!

Foundational: Misery

The world is treating me baaaaaad, Miiiisery! And yet this is so dang catchy it doesn't feel like a downer, even when the lyrics are very explicit XD An early Original, written for someone else but not taken up, and I think the Bugs made their own version more uptempo than the song as originally presented.

Elaboration: Devil In Her Heart

But her eyes they tantalize! A strong showing from George and a really catchy song. Prolly partially overshadowed as it's a cover (as I've been guilty of too lol), but I always dig this one and the unorthodox cadence to the lyrics.

Uneven: I'm Happy Just To Dance With You

I don't wanna kiss or hold your hand... See, I don't have any Anti-George bias, just the sitar leaves me cooler lmao – but anyway! THIS song is sweet and warm, the only time John wrote a song specifically for George to perform, and something I think oughta have been done more! But this deserves more of a spotlight~

Burnout: No Reply

I know that you saw me, cause I looked up to see, your face ! I wondered if the first song on an album could qualify as Underrated, but I think Beatles For Sale as a whole is, and what attention it does get is pooled mostly into I'll follow the Sun, so yeah, I'm giving this its flowers! I'm A Loser also deserves more attention, for the record.

Promising: Act Naturally

They're gonna put me in the Movies, they're gonna make a big star outta me! Another incredibly strong cover, seemingly tailor made for Ringo to sing, given his charisma on the screen, his Catholic-Stained-Glass Sad Eyes and his own fondness for the Country and Western style. And it's one I go to often as I think he has a lovely singing voice and this is Peak Ringo <3

Amazing: Wait

'Till I come back to your side, we'll forget the tears we cried. I don't have that much to say, but knowing Wait was meant to be on Help! but they postponed it, I think it was worth the........ [title drop]. The drums here are also super underrated, and the maraca sure makes itself known~

Revolutionary: And Your Bird Can Sing

You tell me that you've heard every sound there is, and your bird can swing... This is, in my opinion, THE most underrated, overlooked song on an extremely popular record by the most famous band ever, and yet it's absolutely flawless. The guitar shredding and harmonies are insane here, in a very good way!

Intelligent: Lovely Rita

In a cap, she looked much older, and the bag across her shoulder, made her look a little like a Military Man... Innuendo heavy as this may be, there's oodles of charm in this one. It's hard to pinpoint an underrated song on this album, but this has a good balance of being really strong and yet getting less airtime.

Esoteric: Your Mother Should Know

Let's all get up and dance to a song, that was a hit before your Mother was born... That's right, this song is a strangely endearing spin on "your mom" lines. Well, that and connecting with the Older Generation for knowledge that's otherwise easily lost... so while the lack of lyrical variation may seem simplistic, it has enough hidden depth and infectious rhythm that does indeed make it easier to get up and dance to~

Eclectic: I Will

Will I wait a lonely lifetime? If you want me to, I will. This one is (quite rightly) loved by those who have heard it, but it seems to avoid a lot of Radars too! Maybe as White Album's overly long list of songs makes people black out between the more famous or infamous instalments. This is a song that many long to be longer... but oh god, the lyrics hit different when thinking about the Beatles Meta ;~;

Sombre: The Long And Winding Road NAKED

Literally any song and version without Shitty Wall Of Sound. Sorry. The better songs are well known already and the lesser songs are lesser for good reason :v but for the one I selected, yeah it's one of Paul's most emotionally raw and yet beautiful works, as it's supposed to be presented and yet the defaced one gets more airplay, undeserved as it is. So this version is of it is massively slept on. The wild and windy night, that the rain washed away, has left a pool of tears, crying for the day...

The Best Album: Because

Because the wind is high, it blows my mind... Hey look, a thematic link to my previous one! Again, every song here is a strong one, even real dark horse selections like Sun King, or ones that were in the medley like Golden Slumbers. I'm selecting Because as both another John song for a more balanced list, but also it is one that kinda slips between the cracks, compared to ones about The Sun, or Hammers, or Octopus Botany. And of course, it's beautiful in its own right~

Well, that's 5 pages of retrospective and elaboration! It was more in depth than I expected lmao, but it was a lotta fun to revisit, all the moreso when the PPM stuff was written a whole year ago...!

Neeeext time on Bug Boys 2025: I'm still not sure to be honest XD;; - I think it's between Early Singles and the film version of AHDN, but I won't tie myself to one just yet. Still, as always I want it to be posted on the First of the Month, so tune back in when February begins~

for the monster hunter ask game: 4, 15, 18, 30

4 - Favourite monster: Great Jaggi, no contest. It's the iconic earlygame monster for me, much moreso than the Dromes ever have been. It's incredibly easy to fight, having very few moves that are mostly pretty slow and easy to read but that's what makes it good. It's supposed to be simple. As a new player, it gives you a lot of time to get used to fighting large monsters in a way that something like Arzuros doesn't, because Arzuros sucks. And then there's its armor set.

It looks so good!! It has amazing skills!!!! Attack Up and Halve Stun, that's all I need to get through all of Low Rank and then in High Rank… I just make the Jaggi set again and I'm set for a long time once more.

It's got a nice wandering mercenary vibe with how it's got minimal metal armored parts in key spots, you can clearly see that it's made of the pretty colourfull Jaggi hides, I love how the cap's visor hides the eyes a bit for that mysterious look… I love Great Jaggi.

15 - Favourite small monster: Much as I like Great Jaggi, I don't enjoy the small ones much because they love to snap at my ankles while I'm carving. This isn't unique to them, all the small bird wyverns do it. I like Giggis. They're reeeeeeally cute!!!! Small and wiggly, the way they move towards you and then they rear up all menacingly. Very good.

18 - What weapon(s) do you play and what you like about it: It kinda depends. When I started in Tri, I spent some time with SnS but switched to Great Sword and stayed on that. Great Sword is nice cause it's a big sword and you make big moves, but I don't think I got all that into it at the time. It was fine enough and it's a lot better underwater than on land. (bring back underwater combat) Then in 4U I picked up Long Sword after the newly-added Insect Glaive didn't impress me much. I stuck with LS for a long time from there, all the way through World. LS is a very simple weapon. Or was, they kept adding fluff to it. But at its core it's about keeping up the pressure with non-committal combos to build your spirit gauge and to find and seize the moment to perform a spirit combo for big damage. Fade Slashes are your bread and butter for this, letting you reposition mid combo. It also has decent unsheathed movement speed so as long as you know how the monster moves, you can stick to it with little effort. This is really what LS is about. Steady fighting. I'm not into all those flashy moves they added to it, like the parries and helmsplitting. Keep it simple. Towards the end of World I picked up the Gunlance, because Tempered Deviljho would oneshot me if I had a def debuff, so the obvious solution is to use a weapon where I can simply block the attack and while blocking can stab upwards into the tall Deviljho. Since I started to quite enjoy it, I chose it as my starter pick in Rise (ironically in the first game that doesn't start you with SnS, but LS instead) and I'd say it's my favourite weapon overall. It has some similar qualities to LS with the steady fighting while looking for openings, but here you do it via the side hops and using your shield. I'm quite fond of blocking and consider it the iconic defensive style of Monster Hunter. Be it just holding up your shield to meet a monster's attacks head-on or using skillful timing to weave through attacks via guard points, it just feels good. To me, MH isn't a parry game. If you wield a shieldless weapon, you avoid damage by stepping out of the way. It's very easy to just stick to defense and use the diagonal block stab and if I'm feeling lazy, I'll pretty much clear a whole hunt that way, but the longer combos with the slam and such are a lot more fun, though you have to work for them! It's of course also a very stylish weapon. You have a Lance, but it also explodes! What's better? I absolutely suck at using regular Lance by the way. Just can't do it. It's too technical and refined for me. I like the brutish nature of the Gunlance. These two aside, I also enjoy using the Bow as a sort of side-weapon for monsters I struggle with with my main weapon. Kirin for example, cause LS just sucks to use against it. In World also Bazelgeuse, because I sucked at using LS against it. Hunting Horn is also fun. It's a very eccentric weapon, which I feel fits the MH games quite nicely. I usually hunt alone, so it feels a bit lonely to just play for myself, but it's still an effective weapon. I like all the creative designs they make for it and their different musical styles. I've also messed around with the Bowguns, but never too seriously.

30 - Frontier: I know very little about the Frontier games, pretty much just that they're MMOs that I can't play, but I did read about the Magnet Spike and I need them to put this weapon into the main series. It sounds so cool.

How I DoL Love Interests!! (With some extras!)

my post where I said Eden looks like Leshy to me has been doing well. Not sure if it's because people really like it or if it's just because the DoL fandom is googles bigger than the TKDB fandom.... anyways here we go

Kylar - My Kylar is emo latino M!Kylar. Sorry, I don't make the rules (I do). I wish I loved F!Kylar more because I love fem yanderes but I just... see him as a guy. an emo guy. Not the fashionable Pinterest kind though- the kind that only ever wears black band tees with black jeans and that's his outfit to everything.

Whitney - My Whitney is a cunty transfem gyaru gal. Gyarus are some of the sweetest folks ever but anime has conditioned my brain to correlate them with bullies. Everytime I try and imagine Whitney, I just see Musume Ronshaku. Which I hate. I wanna atleast change that cognitive connection to Shiipon from Akiba Maid Wars.

Sydney - My Sydney is nothing special. He's... Sydney. Refined-looking tall white boy with a strawberry blonde ponytail and glasses. However... my corrupt Sydney..... she's a goth girl. Simple trad goth though. Like Allison Reynolds from The Breakfast Club.

Robin - My Robin doesn't really have anything visually distinct about them like a stylish style or something. To me, Robin is genderfluid. And... that's really it. Robin is one of the more dynamic characters when it comes to how I see them- my Robin is different every playthrough unlike my Kylar who is ALWAYS a stinky little emo.

Alex - Physically, my Alex looks like most folks' M!Alex. Reddish-orange short hair, tan skin, a little bit of hay sticking out his mouth. And that's fine. He's a simple guy. a simple.... trans guy..... mwahahahaha!! Okay that's it for the trans headcannons I promise

Eden - There's nothing more to be said that I haven't already with this post.

Avery - I would love to imagine F!Avrey. I would love for her to be my PC's hot sugar mommy. But no. Avery is a creepy old business man who can't get bitches so he buys the love of the youngest possible adults he can find. Avery is the guy on main street New York who cat calls you for wearing a skirt. Avery is your dad's creepy friend who's known you since you were "just a kid" and tells you "You've aged so well!". I do not like Avery and Avery fans I am sorry.

Great Hawk - GREAT HAWK <3 I fucking love Great Hawk. My Great Hawk is a big great monster boy with the biggest wingspan and the longest feathered tail. He has feathery arms legs fit with talons but aside from that and his wings + tail, he looks like a regular human. If a regular human was 8 feet tall with yellow pinning eyes.

Black Wolf - I don't really interact with black wolf or the wolf pack often but to me, Black wolf is just... just a black werewolf. The anthro kind- not the "human with ears and tail" kind. I could see BW as male or fem but I think I prefer the idea of a tough fem werewolf.

Is that all the LI's? I think so... I hope so.... now for some extras

Bailey - Although I'm pretty sure Bailey is around the same age as the other older named NPCs, I see him as the youngest- probably in his early 40's. My Bailey is a guy because this isn't fucking Annie life may be tough but it's not a hard-knock life.

Briar - Briar. Briar is that 50 yr old lady you see while on a blind date drinking an entire bottle of wine by herself. Briar is the kind of lady you DON'T go up to at a gas station if you feel unsafe because being with her would make you feel even unsafer. Briar is the lady on the street who approaches young school kids asking them if they want an "adult" job. But God dammit she does pay me good money for the vending machine and shows....

I had a few other characters planned but it kinda just boiled down to if they were m or f and if they were creepy or not. I guess I could do the other named NPCs if I'm asked nicely. Or rudely. Or asked at all.

♧ The Hellerby Dynamic ♧

(Having to re-write this entire post because the first one kinda... vanished)

To an observer, it seems completely asinine to think that Mordecai and Rocky would like each other in the slightest. Their personalities contrast way too sharply! The only feelings between the two would be that of loathing, right?

Well... in reality, there's good reasons for why the mutual feelings between Heller and Rickaby wouldn't be loathing, but instead would be *love.*

♧ First and foremost, there's an inheret shared respect between them. This is thanks to them both having been through the wringer, so-to-speak.

In Lackadaisy Breakdown, Rocky speaks about hardship in his past- in his usual archaic and poetic way. The specifics are generally unclear, but this incredibly sullen mood speaks volumes and is a clear testament to having been through a lot of pain.

And in Lackadaisy Congregation, we are shown explicitly through a flashback that Mordecai has had it incredibly rough, and was imminently going to get himself killed before being taken under the wing of the Mays.

Thus,

• Mordecai has an entrenched respect and keenness towards Rocky, understanding that he too had been dealt a bad hand.

• Mordecai is able to tolerate Rocky's behavior, as he understands that such a carefree and energized domeanor is something of a coping mechanism... just like Mordecai's hyper-tidy and professional mannerisms.

And,

• Though he'd never admit it, even to himself, Mordecai oh-so-slightly admires Rocky for his rambunctious style. He sees it as Roark's way to defy and triumph over the suffering he's endured.

♧ Secondly, Mordecai and Rocky's ability to bond is bolstered by their shared appreciation of literature (alongside mutually high intellect).

It's blatant that Rocky is rather incredibly bright and well-read, evident by his rambles of poetry which're in such abundance that I needn't pin-point a specific example. As for Mordecai, his artistic taste is far more downplayed, but is shown to us a few times- namely in the Interludes "Critique" and "Warfare." It stands to reason that this time-killing hobby still persists within Mordecai.

Therefore

• Unlike the majority of people, who're mildly annoyed or bemused by Rocky's sporadic bursts of prose, Mordecai is rather fond of the behavior. When Rocky begins on a poetic tangent, Mordecai simply lets him go on while his lips form a barely-visible and content smile. This liking of the poetry is something he'd nevertheless deny if Rocky knowingly accuses Mordecai of it, the ostensive professional dismissingly telling Rocky that he was simply being courteous by letting him spew his incoherent drivel.

• In spending private time together, Rocky likes having Mordecai read to him. It combines his enjoyment of the finer side of language with his desire to listen to Mordecai's soothing voice for a nice, uninterrupted bit of time.

♧ Thirdly, the additional pleasantries of this shared respect and fondness.

• In the same way he looks up to Mitzi for her authority and elegance, Rocky admires Mordecai for his refinement and assertiveness, finding something about such resilience as highly alluring. Resultant of this, all Mordecai has to do to make Rocky get a little bit flusted is to imbue his commanding and weighted professional voice with a twinge of flirtation. It's something Mordecai revels in, with a smirk forming on his face whenever Rocky shows little symptoms of being flushed.

• Rocky flirts with Mordecai in an over-the-top and dramatic way, spouting vibrant and fancy poetic lines one after the other to form a convoluted and eccentric yet nonetheless endearing and heartfelt message. Mordecai finds such acts cute, though puts up his deflective wall of aloofness and dismisses Rocky's poetry of love... in a more playful way than he'd usually tell someone off.

• Rocky is pretty clingy in his affection for Mordecai, and attacks him with hugs somewhat often. This is met with defense from Mordecai similar to what we see in the "Hugsperiment" Interlude...

...though he eventually lets down his guard if Rocky pesters him long enough. That doesn't mean he'll reciprocate the embrace or drop the irritated act- unless the hug's being done in private, as otherwise Mordecai couldn't stomach subjecting himself to such 'humiliation' before others, despite Rocky's persistence.

-• On that note: Despite seeming to have the culminative intelligence of a small puppy, Rocky's smart enough to understand Mordecai's sense of personal space, and does take care to not overstep and end up being genuinely intrusive.

♧ Miscellaneous Notes On Their Bond:

• Mordecai is incredibly protective of Rocky.

-• Mordecai reflexively will tidy up Rocky's appearence; fixing up his tie, patting down some divergent strands of fur, flicking off any specks and blemishes on his shirt. Mordecai claims to do so out of being unable to stand a person near him being untidy, but the main motive for this tick is his desire to keep Rocky away from the filthy and unkempt dirtiness that permeated his youth.

-• Mordecai'd be the first to give basic first aid for any little boo-boo Rocky gets, treating the lightest bruises and the tiniest cuts with unflinching seriousness. It's to Rocky's minor amusement and attraction, as seeing Mordecai so absolutely focused on his wellbeing kindles a warm feeling that one gets when one knows that someone truly cares for them.

• Mordecai has bought Rocky poetry collection books on more than one occassion; most often as birthday gifts.

• Mordecai's the superior cook, and sometimes whips together breakfast for himself and Rocky. However, Mordecai's more of a waffle guy, and won't budge from Rocky's occassional plea to just make pancakes- getting a small, benign kick over this bit of leverage.

In Conclusion...

Although it seems like these two cats shouldn't get along in the slightest, they ultimately share deep love- despite both of their eccentric styles making their respective affirmations of said love come out in more indirect and roundabout ways than a typical couple. Their bond and mutual respect is a source of warmth that helps soothe both of their hearts, with this tender flame being one that, ultimately, shall never be snuffed out.

Good Stuff: The Dog Man Movie

Welcome back to the program. Today we'll put the ACAB agenda aside to finally talk about the spiritual successor to Captain Underpants: Supa Cop Dog Man. I was anticipating this, enough to read all the books because I actually never grew up with this series. Dav Pilkey is my GOAT though so I hopped on it and was pleasantly surprised by the quality those books brought. I'll talk about them at a later date, I wanted to see if the film lived up to the hype. It looked good, sounded good, but was it good? YES, but... it could've been greater. Though upfront, worst thing about the movie was the credits song. Yung Gravy? No, just no. It's bad. They trimmed it for the film and it was still bad. It'll forever be bad.

*Downgrade* would be understating it

The movie takes from the first three-ish books where Dog Man is born, Lil' Petey is anew, and Flippy the psychokinetic cyberfish runs amok. Now things here are simple. Petey is a villain, he tangos with Dog Man, chaos ramps up. This is what I love about the film. It captures the hectic energy and humor of the books genuinely. Kinda stinks George & Harold themselves couldn't cameo when this is their universe here, but I won't knock points for that. However, and I hate saying this, but this film feels... too rushed? It's like The Wild Robot or Super Mario Bros movie where you understand some things even when they're glossed over, but it doesn't feel as satisfying and wished there was more. There's a character, who I won't say, that felt like an afterthought? He help leads to a good ending, but not as strong as I wish it could have been. This film overall felt less structurally tight than the Captain Underpants movie. Then again, what they got right is what made this film still worth it.

So glad the cast is stacked this good

Dog Man himself is emblematic of what I love about this story. They actually dive a bit into the loneliness that came with Dog Man losing his owner and Petey rediscovering who he once was thanks to Lil' Petey's arrival. That sense of found family the books are known for is good here with how everyone bands together for Lil Petey's sake. Again I'll talk of this on a later post, but seeing Petey's walls break down for who is essentially the cat he once was lead to nice moments and Pete Davidson was phenomenal as his voice. I ragged on the pacing but I'm glad they knew how to slow things down where it mattered. If this'll be the only Dog Man movie Dreamworks ever makes, they did a good enough job. I feel they did good by the fans and it makes me want a sequel or series to not just refine but fly with the other great ideas from the books.

Also include Molly because she's awesome

It is a little difficult to judge something that you didn't grow up with but is based on a author you hold to good regard that is still cooking to this day. Dav Pilkey was my childhood and I can see why Dog Man is just as much a hit with the kids as Captain Underpants was for all the gen ziggas like me. The Captain Underpants movie is a undoubtable masterpiece to me but the Dog Man movie doesn't hit the same highs as I would've hoped. Comparing the two is like apples and pears in a way, but did I want it to be a masterpiece though? No. It's kickass, well-animated, and it still has heart. It still relishes in the youthful spirit that Dav would want to provide for the audience in its humor, action, and message.
