since in 2024 i've seen a lot of movies (yay!) i decided to rank all the 2024 releases i've seen :)
challengers, dir. luca guadagnino. genuinely had a religious experience when i saw this in the theatre for the first time. one of the best toxic throuple AND fujo throne movies of all time, and the score is so good that trent reznor & atticus ross ended up in my top 5 artists in my spotify wrapped. the final match injects adrenaline straight into my veins everytime i watch it. there are many contenders for the craziest scene but one of my favourites is when tashi tells patrick to shoot himself and he giggles like a schoolgirl. MOVIE OF THE YEARRRR
the substance, dir. coralie fargeat. everytime i think about this movie i start clapping my hands with delight ^^ great effects, great score, great cinematography, great shrimp eating scenes. CINEMA!!
look back, dir. kiyotaka oshiyama. really sad without being manipulative, and a great story about the power of yuri being so strong it travels through timelines. tatsuki fujimoto i love you so much
love lies bleeding, dir. rose glass. did nawt expect this to be as surreal as it was but i had a great time. more movies about unwell lesbians committing murder please
i saw the tv glow, dir. jane schoenbrun. pretty slow at first but once the dread sets in it's really effective. the sequence in the party restaurant (?) is such a haunting scene and i keep thinking about it.
monkey man, dir. dev patel. god he's so fucking hot
how to make millions before grandma dies, dir. pat boonnitipat. super cute and really well shot, i think i would've rated it a little higher if i didn't find the score really annoying. the central relationship is really well written and the whole family sucks in a realistic way.
beetlejuice beetlejuice, dir. tim burton. made the terrible decision to rewatch the original before this, so it looked worse than it probably is? either way bloated as hell but the practical effects looked great. jenna ortega sweetie you need to get a better agent
lisa frankenstein, dir. zelda williams. nothing much to say about this other that it's definitely some teen girl's favourite movie, and honestly? good for her
deadpool & wolverine, dir. shawn levy. the opening sequence is genuinely great and the jokes in the first half mostly land, but the film gradually gets worse and worse after the villain is introduced. great matthew macfayden tomming the fuck out content, he should've had more screentime.
scoop, dir. philip martin. pretty generic biopic and looks pretty bad in comparison to the a very royal scandal miniseries. great billie piper serving face content though.
saturday night, dir. jason reitman. i initially ranked this a bit higher before finding out all the unresolved plot points were references to something on SNL, so it's basically unwatchable if you know nothing about SNL. also, the ice skating scene gave me second-hand embarassment.
romeo è giulietta, dir. alessandro veronesi. the premise is pretty interesting and the movie does absolutely fuckall with it. idk how you can make such a queer concept THIS straight. LET PILAR FOGLIATI BE GAY!!
maxxxine, dir. ti west. i had a feeling this would end up being the worst of the saga but it was way worse than i imagined. the third act almost made me turn off the movie.
the idea of you, dir. michael showalter. boring as fuck romcom, there's literally nothing else to say about this
unsung hero, dir. richard ramsey, joel smallbone. christian protestant film. idk how i even ended up watching this tbh
the tearsmith / fabbricante di lacrime, dir. alessandro genovesi. this one is just so laughably bad it was almost enjoyable. favourite scene is when the main guy catches a moth with his bare hands while playing the piano and releases it immediately after
#hopefully i can make a post like this for 2025 too#it was really fun to look back on what i've watched this year#.txt#film tag
