Hello! About this masterpiece, do you have crumbs🤲 over how Sukuna would react to maybe the reader pulling away from him? And then he learns that she's Megumi's girlfriend? Like, I'm just imagining how the heartbreak would feel for him because obviously, you don't love him at all anymore—you don't even know him! And even after he finds a way to let you know who you were to him, just, imagine him being stuck with seeing you and Megumi. Seeing you love Megumi in front of him everytime Yuuji's with the both of you and he can't do anything but watch you love someone else like you used to watch him love her. Pain. (BUT OMG NO PRESSURE IM JUST CURIOUS AND HURT LMAO YOU CAN IGNORE ME IF YOU WANNA)
home from war: drabble 1
note: hey anon, thank you! I wanted to write something too! also I’m not sure if this painful enough, I just wanted to make a small drabble but here you go, have some crumbs!!
Tumblr media
Sukuna can’t get the image of you pulling away from his head. He doesn’t know what stung more – the anger on your face, or the slap that burned his cheek. You pushed him away and called him all sorts of things; although your face and features remained the same, he couldn’t recognize your words.
Why did you call him a monster? Why did you look at him so coldly, your eyes dark with fury and hands shaking as you pushed him out the door – pushed him out of your life – as if you didn’t love him?
Then it hit him.
You’ve forgotten. Your memories of him have been erased – from those rare, bright sunny mornings where you would playfully call him King of the World instead, mocking him with a fake deep bow before stealing one of his precious weapons all because you wanted his attention, to those dark, solemn nights where you patched him up after battle long before his human lover came in the picture – you’ve erased him from every part of you.
Now, he’s left alone with the remnants of the life you once shared with him, your promise still buried deep within him.
This is how he’s lasted his long. This is how he survived even after nearly being defeated by sorcerers and had his fingers cut off – because he was looking for you. Because he wanted to see you one more time, to tell you he loves.
But you don’t know him anymore and your promise shattered like his heart, leaving him staring at you from afar while your pretty face brightened up with laughter, playfully slapping the shoulder of your dark-haired lover, Megumi. He’s a talented and powerful one, that much Sukuna knows, and he grits his teeth inside his domain, his hand clutching the bones of his throne so hard it shattered from his grip.
The cracking sounds snaps him back to life, and he freezes when your eyes cut across the field, smiling at him – no, at Yuuji, this damned kid – with a wave of your hand.
Oh, how much he wants it to be him, for you to see that he’s here now, he’s been waiting for you and looking for you all this time. So why couldn’t you see – what was so hard to see when he’s just right there?
One thing about you hasn’t changed though.
It’s that soft, loving look in your eyes that you sent to your lover, the warmth and kindness of your heart overflowing until it mocks him suffocatingly. He knows you love Megumi – he knows because you used to look at him the same way.
Sukuna laughs in his domain.
He always thought you were the Curse of Heartbreak because you were just miserable and lost, but no…you were the Curse of Heartbreak for you brought it upon him, tore his heart apart the same way he did with his vessel. He can’t explain how much it hurts to be so close yet so far apart from you, to have you within reach but out of grasp, and Sukuna shuts his eyes, conjuring up images of you from a thousand years ago when it was just you and him.
“Hey, Sukuna.”
“What now?” He sounds annoyed, refusing to admit he does enjoy these little moments where you struck conversation with me.
“I don’t think I’m the Curse of Heartbreak.”
“Really? Why not?”
“Because I am capable of love,” you admitted, your smile shy and a little scared. He didn’t understand it then; how his heart skip a beat, or the way his throat ran dry. He merely raised a brow at your confession, prompting you to continue. “I know what love feels like – and I hope someday you could feel it too.”
He wants to ask you, do you hate yourself for wishing that? Do you hate yourself for wishing he could find love the moment he brought his fragile, little human to his temple simply because he didn’t know how to love Curses, yet it was so easy to please others?
“Are you happy now?” he asks from his domain, stunning Yuji who’d fallen silent at Sukuna’s serious voice. “You look so happy – I don’t know whether I want to break you or kiss you.”
“Sukuna?” Yuji tilted his head to the side, his hands pressed to his ear. “Who are you—”
“Silence, human,” Sukuna made his way down his throne, cracking his neck as he slowly took over Yuji, the markings of his body appearing over the skin and his eyes turning red. Yuji screamed and fought against his hold but Sukuna was too strong, too determined as he ran your way, almost as if your mere presence compelled him to be close to you no matter what. “Silence. I still have a promise to keep.”
