How did Zimelu and Neon J realize they were trans? (I find it inspiring how those more “masculine” characters are Trans!)
Actually! All my 1010 are trans! I don't know if you knew that or JUST wanted Zimelu and Neon J, but I'm gonna talk about them all because I can! >:3c
Will put under a read more because it is pretty long. Also there is some transphobia mentioned, mainly vague with Neon but turns into a lot of internalized transphobia with Haym and Purl-hew.
Neon: I would say that Neon didn't realize he was trans until he was mid teens or early adulthood. He honestly thought he was a broken woman who liked both men and women. He did not know the term bisexual at the time (which he used for a while before identifying as pansexual), so he kinda said he as both gay and straight with his friends (he would never tell his parents he liked women when they saw him as a girl).
It wasn't until mid teens that he started experimenting with clothing and his appearance when out with friends that he started to realize he would rather be a guy. He always thought he was weird, but he thought it was just because of his sexuality and not his gender. Once he figured out he was trans (even if he didn't use that terminology at the time) his friends supported him and helped him look like a guy when they went out partying.
Unfortunately one of these partying led to a pretty bad accident that only Neon survived (one of the friends went into a coma but the other 2 died) and so, basically being an adult and having no other support system, Neon left home to go and find someone to help him transition to be a man and would soon join the navy and meet his future ex-wife.
He does not reveal he is trans for a very long time. His medical doctor in the navy was either a friend or a robot he got to swore not to tell anyone (which would later become Rin), so his trans identity was very well hidden except from his closest sailor buddies and at the time wife. Not even 1010 knew he was trans for a very long time after a few of them, or at least Zimelu, came out as trans (Rin has no knowledge of the war time and knowing Neon's transness).
Zimelu: It took a lot longer for Zimelu to figure out she was trans. As a doll/kid she never really questioned being a boy, and during the war she never even had a gender assigned to her. So once the MK1 model rolled around, all Zimelu ever knew and was treated as was being a boy.
Because of this she never questioned her gender identity. If anything, she questioned the "bad boy" role she was put into for 1010 because she never really liked breaking rules or being really mean, but she did it because she thought that is best for the group.
The only time she started questioning whether she was a boy or girl was after the Rock Revolution, and only when she started hanging out with Mayday. There were times before hand, with fashion shoots or helping Eve, that 1010 were put in experimental outfits, but never something very feminine so Zimelu never really got that moment of realization.
That is not until hanging out with Mayday and jokingly the two switched clothes for some reason, either a dare or just to do something stupid for fun. But it was wearing a very feminine outfit and seeing herself in the mirror with her hair down that made Zimelu stop laughing and joking around to just stare at herself in amazement. May and Haym were very worried at the sudden tone shift, but Zuke knew that look in Zimelu's eyes.
She ended up playing it off quickly and tried to go back to normal, but now there was a nagging thought in the back of her head that something was not right. Over time Zuke would try to casually bring the idea of being trans up, which made Zimelu uncomfortable because she thought if she was trans she would be decommissioned or rejected by her family, so she would always shut him down when in private or try to turn the conversation to something else when in public.
Purl notices how Zimelu is acting around Zuke and confronts him, Zimelu sees this, and the truth comes out between the three that Zimelu wants to be a girl and all her fears and insecurities come out with it. In the end, after some reassurance from Zuke and Purl, Zimelu comes out as trans to the family and is immediately accepted by Neon and the rest of the fam.
-And now for the other 1010 members. I'll try to be less detailed with the rest so not to make this super long, but we know I like to talk lol.
Rin: I would say Rin just never cared for its gender. Rin would just play the part of son/medical bot/leader/boy just because it was told that is what it is.
Honestly I think Rin has the most tame story of finding out its gender. It really was just some troll online trying to make Rin, or any 1010/robot, feel like shit by calling them an "it" which Rin just took and was like "Okay sure, I'll go by it" just to really stick it to an asshole online.
I kinda see this as like when people do something ironically and then it becomes a part of who they are. This is literally what happened with Rin lol. It really did just go by He/It for a while and after some time grew really attached to the It/Its label and made that its primary pronouns. Still sometimes going by he/him, but very much Rin's primary pronouns are It/Its.
Rin is probably still experimenting with labels. I had it as genderqueer, but it might also be agender. For the most part Rin is very casual about its gender and does not care all that much if people misgender it, but is also super happy when people use the correct pronoun for it.
Haym: Haym also had a really easy way of finding out his gender. Literally he transitioned without even knowing he was a guy. By that, I mean that when he was a doll/kid, he was a little girl, but then when made into an MK1 model, he was now seen and treated like a guy.
Like, as a little girl, Haym very much tried doing more stereotypical "boy" things like playing in the dirt or building stuff, instead of playing with dolls and putting on pretty dresses. "Tried" being a key word here. Martha, Neon J's ex-wife, really tried to enforce gendered roles onto young 1010, forcing Haym into more "girly" things (along with forcing Zimelu to do "boy" things even though Zimelu never truly tried to do too many "girly" things).
Haym was always upset and annoyed at this, but more so that he couldn't play the way he wanted to play and not as much as being denied his identity that he didn't even realize he had.
Once he became an MK1 though, and almost everybody was treating him like a guy, he was just super happy with who he was. He never even realized until Zimelu came out as trans, that he was technically trans himself. He still had in his code that he was a girl, but because he was treated like a guy and felt like a guy, he just ignored and forgot about that part of his code.
He embraced being trans, but also kinda realizes he does not have the same experience as his siblings who had to actually work to figure themselves out. He feels like he has some kind of privilege over them since he didn't have to suffer any real dysphoria or stigmatization over the years. It sometimes makes him feel guilty and not deserving of the trans label just because he was able to pass for so long as the gender he identified with.
I feel like he will never tell any of his family, friends, or lovers this though, and it will be a guilt he keeps to himself forever.
Eloni: Eloni is genderfluid. I actually do not have as much story for them as I do for everyone else. She would probably have been one of the later ones to come out as trans, probably second to last with Purl being the last to come out.
Because of this, I feel like Eloni was probably experimenting with labels in private with the fam. So one day Eloni would request to be called by just she/her pronouns, or would wear androgynous clothing. None of this would be done in public for fear and anxiety of having a label forced onto him by public perception.
In the end Eloni is just super confused on what they should have as a label because everything seems to fit well. Dress like a boy? Feels good! Dress like a girl? Awesome! Use neutral pronouns? Totally! Use either or both gendered pronouns? Yes please! Nothing seemed to bother Eloni to the point they wondered if they even were trans because to him, if everything felt the same does that mean I am all or nothing?
In the end though, I would say that either the Sayu Crew, or Purl and Rin showed Eloni the genderfluid label and that is the one Eloni chose to go by and later revealed to the public.
Purl-hew: Saved Purl for last because I feel they will be a lot lol.
Purl was like Rin for a while, just playing the role assigned to them. They were the good little girl for their parents. They were an emotionless machine built for war. A cool and mysterious boy for the public eye.
Purl followed all the rules, did everything that was asked of them, and yet they were never happy. No matter how they changed their personality, how they acted, how they presented, they were miserable and hated themself.
Purl spent years wonder what is wrong with them, why they couldn't just stop and be what they were made to be. But that was the problem. Purl was built to be a girl, then forced to be a boy. Living both sides of the coin like Haym, but instead of being happy with the change, it left them more and more empty.
They questioned if they were broken, or if life was always supposed to be so dull and full of self hatred. Even before the revolution Purl was wondering what was wrong with them, how could they feel like nothing all the time.
Purl honestly thought they were some kind of spoiled kid for not ever being happy. They knew what it was like to be a girl and a boy, knew what it was like to not have basic necessities and yet to have everything they ever wanted, knew what it was like to be in war and peace, knew what it meant to be extremely busy and extremely bored. And yet they have no idea what it meant to feel nothing about yourself.
Purl already had some problems expression emotions, so figuring out they were nonbinary was not going to happen for a very long time. And even when they did, they denied themself of that label.
Purl saw their whole family go from being cisgender and straight to very queer in the matter of a few months to maybe a year or two. Everything was changing and the public eye was on all of them. Once everyone came out except for Purl, there were jokes among fans that Purl was the only "normal one" or that it was a matter of time before Purl came out as some random identity.
They hated this. Purl absolutely hated having the public watching their every move, and because they were watched they thought they had to actually live up to that "normal" role. Purl was going to pretend to be fully cisgender and straight. They were going to ignore the fact they were created as a girl, or that they liked masculine presenting people, and pretend to be the cishet one of the group for the fans.
This really took a toll on Purl's mental health. They were so miserable that they would isolate themself for days when not doing work for 1010. Already they felt isolated from the family for not being able to express emotions, and now they believed had to hide their own identity so the public would not turn on 1010.
It felt like everything and everyone was against Purl. Even when one of their siblings would try to reach out, which was honestly not often since they thought this behaviour was normal for Purl, Purl would just push them away and act like everything was okay when it truly wasn't.
The only reason Purl ever came out as nonbinary was because of DK West and Ex-Jay. Spending time away from family, in situations that were not in the public eye, is what allowed Purl to express themself finally. It also helped that in Purl's mind, if West or any member of Ex-Jay tried to out them, they could lie and say that West/Ex-Jay are making it up, then Purl could cut them out of their life.
It was an easy out to Purl that finally let them have a safe space to embrace their queer aspects of themself. Even if Purl was ready at a drop of a hat to cut out that safe space if there was even a chance of being outed, it was something. Purl was not longer entirely alone in life, and soon would come out publicly as nonbinary and using only they/them pronouns.
Even as they came out, they would only dress in masculine or androgynous clothes. It wasn't until like a year or two later that they were able to reconnect with their feminine side, which was something they were trying to kill because of childhood trauma. But now Purl can confidently wear a dress or makeup or whatever while not feeling like they are a woman. Or a suit and not feel like a guy.
Honestly, I feel like if it was not for the Rock Revolution, none of 1010 would be happy. Maybe Haym would be the only one as he was lucky enough to get the gender he wanted when becoming MK-units, and MAYBE Rin would have figured out it was agender/genderqueer, but absolutely not would Eloni, Zimelu, or Purl been able to figure out who they were. Especially not Purl.

1010 Or Neon J with an S/O that's a siren
Neon J: Doesn't quite believe that you’re a siren until he gets any proof, be that showing off your power or having inhuman parts. He‘s familiar with the myth and knows he should be afraid of you, but he wants to trust you, and that gives him conflicted feelings that worry him.
Especially if he’s aware of you being a siren soon after meeting you, he keeps his distance at first (he’s slow to trust anybody, really, just in this case he has an added concern). If he finds out after he’s known you for a while, then he gets worried about if you've influenced him. He trusts you and likes you, but then there’s some doubt in his mind that maybe that’s part of your spell.
Unfortunately this guy is just very paranoid when it comes to trusting people, and as sirens are supposed to be a myth, he's especially not sure what to do in this situation. So he needs some time and space to give it some thought.
But eventually, he’ll realize that he truly does like you, and if you haven’t done anything to charm or hurt him yet, he can trust you not to do so in the future. And he comes back to you more confident and trusting, and apologizing for being away and for any pain he caused you.
And he would love to hear more of…everything, really. Loves listening to everything you have to say. And since he knows he’s safe listening to you sing, he adores the sound of your voice.
.
Rin/White: Mostly he's curious at first, but he knows a little bit about sirens from reading and hearing Neon's stories. He goes to Neon with questions like "Do sirens only sing to hunt?" and "Can sirens lure robots?" and tries to pass it off as simple curiosity, keeping the fact that he met you secret.
He's aware though that Neon may not be the most accurate source of information. He at least learns enough that he thinks he can trust you to not hurt him. He keeps his relationship with you secret as best he can, both to avoid harassment from fans and to keep his family from fretting.
He loves talking with you, and since he's trying to stay low you tend to need to do little activities rather than go out in public. He loves cuddling with you as well, and he adores quiet moments you share.
Eventually, it gets harder for him to sneak away as much as he does and staying quiet bothers him, he tells his brothers first to get their support before he tells Neon. So after knowing Rin quite a while, you finally get to see the rest of his family in person.
.
Zimelu/Red: When he realizes you’re a siren, he’s in disbelief, and finds it so cool. He’s really quiet about approaching you at first, being nervous to talk and afraid he may say something offensive. You have a few quick hellos and chats before he starts talking to you more.
Pretty curious about your lifestyle, if you don’t mind explaining. He barely knows why people act they way they do sometimes, of course he’s curious if your culture is any different. Nothing but interested in everything you show or tell him about yourself.
He’s nervous to introduce you to the others too quickly, concerned you won’t get along. It kills him to not show you off, though, so it’s really not long before he introduces you.
Honestly wishes he understood more about your hypnotic singing powers, but he doesn’t really want to risk trying to listen and won’t admit his curiosity about it to you for the longest time. He adores listening to your natural voice though, it makes him so happy to hear you. And he’s absolutely ready to comfort you if you’re ever stressed over your voice.
.
Purl-Hew/Blue: He’d only briefly read a little about sirens in stories and didn’t know what to think when finding out that you’re a real siren. He isn’t even sure if you’re being honest or pulling his leg. But he quickly catches on that you’re honest.
He does approach with a certain amount of caution, but he’s open-minded. It’s not just your ability to sing that concerns him, but the fact that all the myths could be wrong, and you could have some other powers he has no idea about - perhaps not that you would use them against him, but that you could do something by accident and he wouldn’t know how to fix it, or maybe with him being a robot there would be an effect on him you wouldn’t anticipate either.
But of course he comes to trust you. He’s not much a talker himself but sometimes gathers the courage to ask you questions. He really wants to know what you’re capable of, how that compares to the characters he knows (and of course, about you as well).
Always lets you know that he appreciates you, your personality, and your natural beauty and talent.
.
Eloni/Green: He keeps your relationship a secret as best he can for a while anyways, shy about admitting it to the others. Doesn’t realize at first that he should have anything to worry about, not really sure what a siren is. He even asks you when you tell him, what that means. Says something like “Well, it’s not good practice to tell your victims your plan,” and trusts that you don’t mean him any harm right from the start.
He has the presence of mind to know he trusts more easily than anyone else in 1010 or Neon, so he hesitates on letting them know. Heck, he’ll help keep your identity a secret even as he introduces you to them, hoping they’ll trust you before revealing that you’re a siren. But of course, if you want to approach that situation a different way, he listens.
.
Haym/Yellow: Takes the reveal really well. He knows he fell for you for more than just your voice or looks, and while he was a bit attracted to you at first, he didn’t really get feelings until he knew you. He reassures you that he can’t judge you for what you are when who you are is so great.
Full of questions not just about what being a siren means for you, but how other people take it. He’s ready to defend you against haters, even if those haters are his own family. He knows eventually they’ll trust you, and he’s not afraid to defend himself if they disapprove of your relationship. So, he introduces you fairly quickly.
.
Protectiveness (since it came up in a follow up ask): Neon tends to be the most worried and protective if one of the others is seeing you, since he’s more familiar with the stories of sirens and he’s just all around defensive about trusting new people. He warms up to you eventually, though! Zimelu and Rin are the next most protective of the others, as they both have a need to shield their loved ones. Rin will tell you one-on-one that he’s looking out for the others. Haym and Purl-Hew are a little less openly defensive, although they always keep an eye on anyone that has the heart of their family, as they don’t ever want to see a broken heart. Eloni is the most quick to trust you, but don’t be fooled, he’s always ready to defend his family should his trust be broken. Eventually all of them trust you, they just need time to get to know you! And it’s only partly because you’re a siren, a lot of it is just that they get protective like that anyways.
.
Bonus thoughts:
You could flirt with any of them (and fluster them greatly) by saying “I’ve never meant to hunt here, but I ended up catching a pretty sailor boy anyways.”
Any of them (and once you know them, the whole group), would happily sing along with you. They might get an inspired to write a song about you, too, that romanticizes and breaks the tropes of a “siren song.”
Imagine meeting Neon J during his days in the Navy, before NSR, perhaps by chance or maybe while trying to lure someone.

1010's fave artists to hang around! White and Tatiana: he has a very high respect for her and thinks she is super cool, especially after it came out she was Kul Fyra, since White has gotten into rock after B2J. Blue and Eve: Blue feels like they aren't suppose to express themselves so they decided to help eve set up her art gallery one time, well they added a little bit of their own touch to one of her unfinished pieces and immediately regretted it because they thought they ruined it but Eve loved it and had them collab with her more often allowing Blue to finally get comfortable with expressing themselves more. Yellow Yinu and Mama: Yellow always loved cooking and really wanted to grow his own food but failed a lot, well mama and yinu saw this and helped him learn how to garden, now yellow will spend his free hours with yinu and mama in their garden and will cook any vegetable and fruit into a nice meal or snack for them. Green and Sayu's team: Green feels like an outcast and so turns to gaming, one meeting he overhears dodo talking about a little gaming competition between Sayu's team and showed interest and they invited him, he had such a great time and found out they all felt like outcasts until they found each other, well now he regularly games with them and feels a lot more fulfilled and found. Red and DJSS: red and dj were not always really close, red's rebellious nature always seemed to put dj off until one day he found red having a panic attack, red had been trying to hide her identity from everyone but the pressure was too high and being told to stop being such a girl by a rude fan set her off because she thought she was outed, well dj (a known trans man) helped red calm down and together they bonded over their experiences and red learned cool calming tricks and comebacks for bigots along with having another support outside of her family. (Sorry for the small rant, I just live 1010 interactions)

How did Carna and Maragold realize they were NB as young children? Also I love how they use fae and they as main pronouns. Especially fae/faer. Unhinged pink robot (affectionate). Also, what would’ve they been like as 1010 bots? I’m curious
Thank you! Glad you like the two using non-standard pronouns as their mains! (You are totally right about Carna being unhinged in an affectionate way lol)
I like the idea that when Neon J made Carna's new body he lessened the effect of the "girl" code that fae had. Same with Dew and the "boy" code that they had.
When Neon made Maragold's body though, he wasn't thinking of that as Purl hadn't brought up the whole gender situation at the time, only to keep Maragold a child.
Either way though, the two were just copying older 1010 at first. Maragold looked up to Purl a lot and decided that they wanted to be nonbinary just like Purl. And for the most part it does actually feel good and nice to Maragold to have they/them pronouns used on them.
Though I will say that talking with Yinu and seeing how she feels like a girl (with a human experience) compared to how Maragold felt like a girl (with a robot experience) was the INITIAL factor in Maragold thinking they aren't a girl.
So their robotic experience does correlate a lot with their gender experience/expression. I do honestly think Maragold might change or add on to their identity as they grow older and actually figure out what they truly feel like. But for now they are sticking with the non-binary label as they feel it best fits them right now.
Carna on the other hand has always been a bit on the weird and reckless side of things. Always getting into trouble with Martha and not conforming in any way shape or form (which caused a lot of problems for some of the other dolls at the time).
I would say that Carna mainly wanted to be different and wanted to mess with people and chose some weird pronouns to use for fun. Only to realize people would actually use them for faer because they were listening to Carna.
It was probably the first real time someone listened to Carna and actually tried to make faer feel comfortable and seen. It was weird but also really nice. Carna kept changing pronouns over and over, like weekly there would be a different set just to see what fae could get away with but also with what would feel right.
Fae really, REALLY did not want to go back to using she/her pronouns. It made faer anxious and feel weird, which fae hated so much. Once fae found fae/faer pronouns though, and used them for a week, fae didn't change them. Which came as a surprise to the people around faer as they were expecting another weekly change, only for these pronouns to have stuck.
I don't think Carna will change faer pronouns for a while, but faer might add more later on. I don't actually have a label for Carna, as I think fae would see the non-binary colors as ugly or something and reject the label just because of that. But fae will probably come around and actually use the non-binary label (maybe agender) when fae gets older.
And for Dew, even with his "boy" code limited, he still felt like he should go by he/him pronouns. He didn't feel like he "earned" a right to use other pronouns since he wasn't around as long as the rest of 1010 were to have grown and figured himself out.
However, once they met up with the Sayu Crew and Club, and saw how the mermaids were still pretty new and all using different kinds of pronouns already made them start to use he/they pronouns and feel better about themself.
Putting the "what if they were 1010s" thought under a read more because I don't have a clear answer and will be rambling a bit
As for them as 1010s? Hmmm, I'm not entirely sure. Because for them to have been 1010's they would have had to not been broken/lost along with the fact they most likely would have had a warbot code mixed into their doll code.
Like Dew is a diving bot mixed with the doll code and the first initial 1010 code. I'd have to think of other warbot classes/jobs that Pink and Orange would have been mixed with to create their 1010 versions, who would also have different names as Neon J would have named them instead of them naming themselves (I like to think the main 5 1010 names were names Neon J wanted to name his children, but he never gave them names at first, he waited for them to ask for names. Which is why Dew was able to name themself).
So yeah, depending on what kind of warbot they got mixed with would change what their personality would be like.
Right now all I can think of is a chef/cook warbot, or maybe a driver warbot (one that the captain would command to drive the ship when they need to step away). There would probably one that worked with torpedos, or a job for just working maintenance on other warbots/engines.
There also warbots that were not even on battleships that Neon could have chosen from. Though usually Neon actually would have taken defective robots to try and fix or just save from being scrapped. Honestly that's probably why 1010 has so many problems was because they were a combination of abused dolls, traumatized soldiers, and defective warbots all mixed together and forced to be musical idols that feed off of attention of others (attention they never had before: the good kind).
I would say that if 1010 came out with all 8 members (White, Blue, Red, Yellow, Green, Purple, Orange, and Pink) then they would still be the kind of flirty K-Pop BOY band that the original 1010 were in the canon game (yes Neon would have changed ALL their genders to male the same way he did to Purl and Haym).
The original 5 1010 would end up like they did later on, but I can't think of what Purple, Orange and Pink would turn out into. I doubt Orange would be as trusting of people, and Pink would definitely be more mean at times....
Actually, now that I think about it, 1010 wouldn't be entirely the same! Because there is a chance that Neon would have changed their roles up! White would still be the leader, but I can see Blue turning into the "older brother" type instead of just the "cool guy" role. Purple probably would have turned into the "cool guy" while Pink would have been the "funny one" and Green turned into a like laid back guy (not the same as cool, but like probably more like a stoner but without the implications of drugs if that makes any sense).
I can also see Pink as just being the "youngest" of the group. Yellow would probably be turned into the "loud one" or like the main dancer/visual of the group while Orange turns into the "innocent" one.
Once I think of what warbots Pink and Orange would have been mixed with I could give a better prediction of how they would have turned out once they gained full sentience as 1010s.
I can give one for Dew though. He was supposed to be the "youngest" one in the group when it was just the 6 1010 together. Him, Haym, and Eloni were supposed to be the more comedic part of 1010, with Zimelu, Dew, and Eloni being the troublesome part of the band. Purl and Rin would always be the more responsible ones of the band but also would help set up jokes or "protect" Haym and Dew from the Zimelu and Eloni's jokes/pranks. (All this based off of the roles they were given and what they were initially supposed to behave like, Haym later on becomes the more jokey/mischievous one as time goes on with the OG 1010).
With this being said, I would say that Dew (or whatever his name would have ended up being), would have turned out a lot less anxious and a lot more social. He'd be more confident in his abilities and actually be more of a sports oriented robot. Especially with swimming and other water-related activities.
He and Purl would not be as close as they are in the OG timeline. He'd be a lot more close with Zimelu and Haym. If anything he'd probably be a bit more of a bully but in a teasey kind of way, not a malicious kind of way (though he would try to get Purl soaked with water a bunch, making Purl kinda hate/resent him the same way they do Rin).
I think Dew/Purple would stick with he/him pronouns and not go into using they/them. He MIGHT use it/its but only online in a text kind of way, he wouldn't want people verbally using it/its pronouns on him. He'd identify as cis.
Also, he and Haru would never become a couple because by the time Haru is made he would be around 25 years old and sea would be 16/17. Instead he'd try to get a surfer girlfriend (or boyfriend honestly) that was his age/a bit older than him.
That's all I have right now honestly. Sorry I couldn't give more insight on Carna and Maragold's 1010 status. I literally never thought of what they would be as 1010s before now lol. Other than like, one drawing I made of Maragold looking like a standard 1010.

Hi I would love to hear about your Doki Doki Mermaid team! They deserve so much more love
Oooh! Yeah okay! Though I will say, I don't have their personalities concrete yet, so most of this will just be fun facts about them and their designs or something.
Also: Club=Robot Mermaids (Renho, Haru, Sayu, Aoi, Yua), Crew=Humans (Remi, Tila, Dodo, Sofa), Robot body= With Legs, Mermaid body= With mermaid tail.
But anyway, to start off, the DDMC were at first just created for the DDMC game as promotional material for Sayu, but so many people liked the designs that the rest of the club would show up in the background of videos or as special guests with Sayu (with Tila using a voice changer, or maybe Remi and Sofa would voice them with a voice changer).
The club wasn't all that important compared to Sayu, but once Sayu was given an AI, over time ze got lonely being the only teen robots. Sure ze could relate to 1010 a lot, but they were older and could not always relate to a teen, and the Crew could relate more age-wise to Sayu but not the robot aspect. That feeling Sayu was feeling and eventually expressed is what pushed the Crew and Neon J to create the rest of the Club mermaids for Sayu.
Instead of forcing certain aspects and identities on the new mermaids, they were given their base personalities and names for code and then allowed to choose for themselves as their AI grew. During this time they were not in the public eye so they had little to no outside pressures on them to conform a certain way.
Sayu: [16, Ze/Mer, Nonbinary, AroAce.]
First of the mermaid AIs to be made. Leader of the Club. Only reason ze figured out mer gender was because of 1010's experimentation with gender along with the Crew answering all of mers questions about gender that popped up.
When in mer robot body ze ends up using a wheelchair or cane to walk. This is because the tech used for mer body was very experimental, trying to reduce robotic attributes like visible joints, but also Sayu had a very hard time adjusting to walking after a long time being just a mermaid.
It also made sense at the time of designing humanoid Sayu (after the revolution but before the AI was made) because the Crew thought a mermaid given legs wouldn't be able to walk that well. As the tech got better, Sayu decided to not fix the problem so that ze could be a role model for mer disabled fans.
Aoi: [16, He/They, Genderfluid, Lesbian]
Has the most fragile fins of the Club, especially in later forms where it turns into lace. Only member of the club to have sharp teeth along with inverted eye colors (dark blue sclera and white pupils). I misread the cover art by Aoi and saw Sayu's tail fin as a pearl that Aoi was holding, so now his signature item is a giant pearl lol.
Him was probably the main villain of the game, with Haru being either a villain by Aoi's side or a minor antagonist/red herring villain.
With their AI, Aoi got really close with Sayu, the two of them being best friends. I feel like Aoi would be very sarcastic in a mean way to people they don't care for, kinda like an absolute bitch that people try to stay away from, but with friends they are more chill.
He, and the rest of the Crew not counting Sayu, was able to come up with his own robot design. He decided to have normal looking eyes and braces in place of sharp teeth. Sometimes wears glasses as going from light pupils to dark pupils messes with his eyes.
The tech problem Sayu had was gone by the time the rest of the Crew was made, but Aoi wears a special brace on their right leg because they tends to pop the joint out of the socket/mechanism a lot. It never happens to the left leg though.
Haru: [17, Sea/Sear, Nonbinary, Omnisexual]
Shortest of the Crew and Club. Has broken heart pupils in both forms (a glitch occurred once before the AI was installed that had sear pupils move away from each, so one eye had a pupil on each side). Sea is fat, in both robot and mermaid form, so sea has the thickest tail.
I don't have much to say about sear other than sea is the most lively out of the bunch. Definitely the most extroverted and will be the one to tell the cashier sear friend asked for no pickles lol.
Design wise for sear robot, sea wanted to be hairy, kinda taking inspiration from DJ because I definitely see Haru as being friends with them. It is also something sea ended up really liking about searself and will rub sear legs when sea gets nervous (which is pretty rare).
Also, Dew (Purple 1010) is heavily crushing on Haru. He is also 17, he is not as old as the rest of 1010 (who are about 25) because he, along with 1010, were initially 17 but he broke down, so when he was rebuilt Neon kept him at 17 instead of forcing him to be 25. Because of this, he often hangs out more with the Crew and Club, which is where he developed a crush on Haru, who is either oblivious or ignoring it because sea doesn't know how to react yet.
Yua [17, She/Her, Transfem, IDK sexuality yet]
Longest mermaid and second tallest of the Crew (Dodo is the tallest). Has diamond/rhombus shaped pupils. Only one with a spit tail in first form. Extremely flexible.
Like Haru, she is pretty extroverted. Not as much, but she is also very kind. Idk, I kinda see her having Haym's type of energy and recklessness. Her and Haru teaming up with Haym would cause so many problems but also be SUPER fun to hang out with! Probably the one who has the braincell the least amount of the time lol.
She wanted her robot design to be flat chested and tall. Also asking for a labret and navel piercings to be incorporated. After a while with her design she ended up adding hair to her legs because seeing Haru with hairy legs made her want them.
Her and Haru are best friends, and she loves teasing Dew with Aoi. But she does it in a loving way while Aoi kinda pushes the boundary a bunch and causes Dew to leave the group sometimes.
Renho: [16, They/Them, Agender, Lesbian]
Heart shaped eyes like Sayu. Has a prosthetic fin and fully blind on the right side because they lack that eye entirely. Only mermaid that keeps the tail fin connected to the tail in all forms. The others have disconnected tail fins from their 3rd form on wards (TECHNICALLY Aoi has a very thin string/lace piece connecting his tail to his body, but no one really counts that).
Renho is probably the most quiet out of the Club. Very soft spoken, but very eager to talk when with close friends. Is probably closest with Sayu, Tila, and Sofa.
With their design, it was decided to just turn off the right eye and let Renho decide if they wanted to turn it on or not when they became sentient. This made them very comfortable with having only one eye and they decided to just have it removed because it sometimes tried to forcibly turn on which messed with Renho greatly, even with their eye patch.
As a robot, Renho was offered to make one of their legs look like a prosthetic to match their tail, but instead Renho decided to only have one leg (the left one), taking inspiration from Sayu to be a disabled role model. They use forearm crutches to walk when in robot form.
[That's all I really have for all the mermaids right now. I don't think of them as much as I should have, probably because I was heavily on the "Sayu is not an AI" train for so long that now that I AM on board with Sayu having an AI, I still sometimes go back to Sayu and the mermaids just being tools and not sentient. I'm sure I'll make more up for them as time goes on or people ask specific questions]
