Ever since his rejection from the academy Licorice has spent every moment trying and failing to prove to himself he's good enough. It's bad to the point where the people around him forget he's actually a competent sorcerer.

Self-taught healer, alchemist, enchanter. A Necromantic Prodigy. Constructed on his own a recipe to reattach severed limbs and doesn't even realise it's impressive.

Brought a creature back from the dead with its mind, will, soul, and personality in tact. Only partially realises how impressive this is.

Spends every free night on the road studying, reciting, and practicing spells. Every time they visit ruins he scours the place for any magic-related books he hasn't seen and jots down all new information.

Has no clue he was rejected over his talents in "Dark" magic, not for his lack of academic knowledge.
