My stance is actually set in stone, thank you very much. I started the transition process at 15 and knew many people who also transitioned as minors. I think I know what I'm talking about.
The detransition rate is actually currently unknown. The 1% study that is often cited was conducted before the "trans explosion in the mid-2010's, and does not accurately reflect the current culture around transition. Many, manyyyy detrans people do not ever return to their endos/surgeons/therapists and inform them of their transition status, so how can they be counted in the numbers? Not to mention that transition is a lifetime process. Even if the rate was below 10% now, that doesn't mean the large amounts of people (specifically teens) will persist 10-30 years from now. Especially if they start experiencing health complications from HRT, which is not uncommon. This study (https://academic.oup.com/jcem/article/107/10/e4261/6604653?login=false) found that the continuation rate of HRT was 70.2% after 4 years among their sample pool. It is possible these people are still identifying as trans and just not taking their hormones, but this is still an extremely alarming number.
This study (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34665380/) found that of 100 detransitioners, only 24% reported that they informed their clinician of detransition. This is a small sample pool and more conclusive studies are still needed, but once again this reveals concerning gaps in trans healthcare. People are NOT being adequately followed up with and many detrans people do not feel comfortable returning to their doctors; in fact, many of us feel our situations account to medical abuse, myself included.
Young people fuck up all the time, but you are absolutely downplaying how serious medical transition is. You cannot conflate "dressing up differently" with taking exogenous hormones (that are not FDA approved btw) as a teenager, which often result in medical issues and change the body in irreversible ways.
And yes, some people never grow up. This is a trend I have noticed in my person life. So many of the adult trans people I know are immature in ways I just don't see with my other peers. I am not the only one who's taken note of this. Apparently, I'm a "zealot" because... what? You think I'm a TERF? That word doesn't even have any meaning. Nobody seriously identifies with it as a social movement the way people do with feminism, for instance. It's a pointless label people throw out whenever people are critical of anything to do with trans politics.
Sorry my lived experiences and opinions aren't in alignment with how you think I should feel, but I won't stop talking about it. We have a huge medical crisis on our hands and sooner or later the scandal will break. I sincerely hope you have nothing to do with it by the time it does.
I've been meeting more and more 21-24 year old trans people and so many of them are just so... childish?? They still act like teenagers. And at first I was judgemental of them. I do not respect that they are grown adults that continue acting this way.
But I've also learned that a lot of them started transitioning at 14, 15, 16, etc. So fucking young. Indoctrinated and put on this horrific medical malpractice train that they just can't get off of. There's a really disturbing lack of self-reflection that baffled me until I realized that transition has basically stunted them.
This applies more for the ~everyone is valid uwu~ crowd than the transmedicalists, who usually want to just move on with their lives. But these people are stuck in this ideological bubble where they cut out anyone who disagrees with them. They reject anything that makes them feel uncomfortable, that threatens their perception of their gender, which is so fragile that it can't be held under scrutiny. And they know it. It's why the act the way they do. Allowing their views about gender and the world at large to develop would also mean leaving behind their zealotry. They cannot do this because of how invested, physically and socially, they have become in this ideology. Leaving it behind would mean loss of friends, loss of ego, maybe even a full detransition. It would mean death.
