ooougghhhh buckle up boyz... it's angsty tism time..... - i don't think L was ever good at making friends (this is very much a projected headcanon but shshshshshsh ignore that). despite being insanely intelligent and pretty damn good at whatever he sets his mind to, i don't think he ever got the hang of making deep, personal connections. and i feel like he wants to. throughout his whole life, maybe he wanted to make friends but it always just fell flat. maybe as a child there were times where thought he had made a friend, only to realize those feelings were not reciprocated. despite everything he tried, he was just never "human" enough to seemingly make all those lasting connections that he analyzes so deeply. and i think he probably gave up on trying at some point. and all of this is why i feel like his connection with light is so important. even though he knows it'll end in tragedy and that he will die by light's hand, he still can't help but feel... a little more human with light. and i think he'd risk death in order to feel like that one more time. - i don't usually like reading/seeing heavily angsty stuff, but i remember seeing somebody headcanon that they thought L went through solitary confinement as a child in the wammy house, and i always thought that was interesting. i'm not gonna expand on it though since heavy angst isn't really my vibe. ( TW ) was cycling home from a night shift one morning when he was hit by a drunk driver at a crossing. he woke a couple of days later to a shock ( and thinking that it was funny that someone who worked in emergency medicine would be surprised by his injuries ). daniel had been lucky, really. at least, that's what people said -- at the time he could only think that was an unbelievably cruel thing to say. his right leg had been amputated ; initially below the knee but complications arose and so he ended up an above knee amputee. otherwise, he was pretty much unscathed. a smattering of scars here and there the only other thing to show for his ordeal.

not unexpectedly, daniel was diagnosed with ptsd and had fallen into depression immediately following the accident and suffered during much of his recovery. he refused to even think about his life beyond, let alone work ; his msn was paused and he insisted he would never go back to it for a while. eventually and no doubt entirely thanks to the efforts of friends, family & the professionals around him daniel came round.

by no means have either of those things become a non-issue in his life ( the level of pain he's in & the prevalence of depression are inextricably linked ), but they have dissipated significantly and well, when all else fails… there’s always throwing yourself into work or looking after someone else when you don't want to deal with your own problems. This one is all about them wearing down each other's defenses over the years without noticing until they both found themselves completely transformed by the other. While Bruce did give up a lot, sacrificing his identity and the morality based around it, his sense of right and wrong, his devotion to Rachel and the memory of her in order to satisfy his overpowering need to have some sort of relationship with him, Joker also did end up giving up his identity in a way. They both conditioned each other; Joker figured out the less of a menace he was, the closer Bruce would allow him to get, and Bruce figured out the closer he would allow him, the less of a menace Joker was. And so it went on until they were both so exhausted doing the Batman x Joker bit, all the frustration just spilled out the first chance they got (chapter 4 & 5) and only then did they begin to suspect how utterly dependent they were on each other. By chapter 9 it was pretty much obvious there was no going back to what they previously had, and it freaked Joker the fuck out, because up to that point, he was able to fool himself into thinking that what they had was never going to become anything more than a game, a painful and not entirely satisfying one, but still a game. But then Bruce flipped the script on him on all fronts and demonstrated time and time again that he was just as much in love with him as he was with Bruce, to the point where he was willing to uproot his life and fucking move in with him.

So up until then, Joker was the dog chasing cars and now that he got the car he has to figure out what to do with it. But even with all these new developments to their dynamic, they're still very much themselves, and that's what scares Joker the most. He knows what he is, and he knows what Bruce is, and he's terrified that with love added to the equation, whatever end awaits them will be so much worse than whatever he could have predicted for them before.

And then Bruce reads all of this between his lines because he feels exactly the same way. And he comforts him by listing everything that could possibly go wrong, and it is comforting for Joker becase now he sees they're not fooling themselves, it's not going to be pretty, but then again there's no other way for them. They don't want to hurt each other anymore, there's no more bite in either of them and that's what makes them so utterly vulnerable now, because hurt is pretty much all they've known up to this point and being soft and defenseless is just plain scawwy 🥲🥹💀

the kissing his ring finger thing, right? that's how it started; albedo was up really late one night at his desk and you probably woke up to get him to come and lay down. he had one hand buried in his hair and you very tiredly grabbed it, brought it to your lips, and kissed his ring finger -- the one that has the ring you gave him on your two year anniversary. albedo stopped what he was doing and saw you using his hand to cup your face; you pressed your cheek into his palm and quietly asked if he could come lay down, to which he agreed in an instant, his heart running wildly in his chest. you're irresistible like this -- so sleepy, so sweet, his perfect partner. he wrapped up what he was doing and went to bed at your request.

you would then kiss the back of albedo's hand when you were studying side by side. maybe about two hours of non-stop studying would go by before you were ready to stop for a second to take a breather, but albedo would still be scribbling away at his notes. so you'd take his free hand in yours and press your lips against it, which immediately gets his attention. albedo would blink at you from behind his glasses and break into a small smile. you'd ask if he wanted something to drink but he'd decline and lean in to kiss your cheek instead. when he pulls back, he would kiss your lips next, slowly and deliberately -- a sign of his gratitude. albedo isn't one for corny lines, but he'd tell you that this was all the break he needed -- just a little bit of your attention goes a long way.

kiss breaks then became you kissing albedo's cheek to get him to relax. no matter how many times you do it, it will always make his ears go red. you'll seize the opportunity to kiss from his cheek to his neck -- by now, he's already stopped writing. now he's sighing and softly telling you that he should be working. you don't listen -- instead, you surprise him by giving him one small, dark hickey on the side of his neck. albedo will touch the tender spot when you've pulled away and try to re-focus with flushed cheeks, but his head is too jumbled to make sense of anything on the page. he does manage to pick up working again, but every thirty minutes or so, you'd brush your fingers over his new hickey, making his breath hitch. it gets his attention on you every time. "is there something you need, my star?" he'll ask. and you'll kiss him softly, relishing in the way his eyes flutter shut.

soon, albedo starts initiating kiss breaks himself. he's still a little too shy to really just openly kiss you whenever he feels too restless to continue working, so he'll drop little hints. he'll lace your fingers with his or rest his hand on your thigh. or he'll just ask if you're tired yet. albedo never asks if you're tired first -- he's always too caught up in his work to really care. so when you look at him and see him openly staring at you lips, you'll know what he wants. you'll tease him a little; you'll brush your lips over his lightly and chuckle when he grumbles something about this not being what he had in mind. albedo always takes your chin in his fingers and brings you in for a kiss that sends a shiver down your spine.

"this is new." albedo says, his eyes dropping to your hand. you've got a finger planted on his cheek, right where his dimples are. you're leaning your own cheek on your fist and smiling at him so charmingly, he can't find it in him to ignore you. "do you need something, starlight?"

your smile widens ever so slightly. albedo's heart skips -- it always does. "you were making that face you do whenever you're focused," you explain, "and your dimples were showing. they're cute."

albedo is more than sure you can feel his skin warming beneath your finger. it's not that he's embarrassed about his dimples, it's just that whenever you point them out -- you specifically -- you tend to dote on him and praise him a lot. he loves when you give him your attention, but really, he's supposed to be working...

"so you've said before." albedo's eyes drop to his work then jump back to you. "is this also your way of saying that it's time to take a break?"

he doesn't realize what he's implying until he sees your smile become colored with mischief. the only time you takes breaks are for--

"well, if you're asking for it, i won't say no." you push his glasses up into his hair and take his face in your hands. you can feel his cheeks warming -- you make a soft cooing sound. "albedo, if you wanted kisses, all you had to do was ask."

albedo doesn't look at you. "then, may i...?" he pauses to make eye contact with you. he doesn't finish the sentence.

thankfully, you pick up on what he wants and oblige him. you press kiss after kiss onto his face; on his forehead, between his brows, on his nose. albedo sighs as you do so, contented. you're like a breath of fresh air. when you pull back, there's a twinkle in your eye -- one that albedo is proud to say is reserved for him alone.

you kiss his cheek, right where his dimple is. "you always work so hard," you murmur. albedo shivers subtly. you move to his other cheek to kiss where the other dimple is. "i'm so proud of you."

when you pull away this time, albedo follows you, pressing his lips against yours. you make a noise of surprise, but he drinks it in and tilts his head, and you go along with it with ease. the kiss is slow, languid. albedo could kiss you forever if given the chance. but you break the kiss just as he starts to lose himself in you. before he can protest, you reach up and gently pull his glasses down back onto his face.

you laugh when albedo blinks at you. "you still have work to do, lover boy." you tease.

"you should take more responsibility," albedo says. "you distracted me, no? you should reap what you sow."

"what about your work?"

albedo glances at the papers on the table for no more than a second before looking back at you. he hooks a finger under your chin and chuckles when your eyes flutter. even you have your tells.

"it can wait." his voice is soft as he leans in to kiss you again.

1. how do they fall asleep? wake up? any daily rituals?

omg daily rituals and routines... they have so many. they both wake up really early, like before the sun comes up. she's definitely more of a deeper sleeper than he is so actually waking up takes her a bit, and it's almost always to him kissing her shoulder or wrapping his arms around her waist to hold her – when they actually sleep they don't really cuddle cause either one of them gets hot or really uncomfortable lmao but as soon as they wake up there are smooches of course. then like they both have their showers, make the bed, have breakfast, whatever, but diana will put on very minimal makeup and do her hair all neat, also her like putting on her jewellery and perfume is a bit of a ritual in and of itself. he of course is over there styling his hair... for some reason my brain keeps going that he uses pomade, but honestly just whatever product he uses, he makes sure that's perfect. night-time is where i think there's more routines there because in the morning it's just like his days are always something different while she just heads into the lab, but at night they are both coming home to relax

i think that he actually has like another shower at night also because just likes to be clean before bed, and he doesn't wash his hair (cause he would kill it lmao) but he rinses it out, just cause i feel like he uses a water-based pomade because he would get very oughgh about oil-based one's residue getting on his pillowcase or building up in his hair. but diana has a little skincare routine going on, not like a wild 10 step one or anything, but has to take her makeup off and cleanse and moisturise and stuff, and you know... being from australia, a lot of emphasis on protecting her skin always. but yeah they sometimes read before bed too, either their own book each or sometimes she'll just lean against his side as he reads, but then it's sleep time. these are the things that kind of stay constant all the time, but obviously the time they go to bed and the amount of sleep they need changes when they're infected, because they don't need as much then

SO they weren't originally going to have any sort of big ceremony, because the idea of marriage was already kind of a weird one for them both – he had never really wanted it before waking up one day and thinking yeah i want to call her my wife, and she was very uneasy about getting married again after her last marriage – and they also just thought they wouldn't have the time with their work to plan such a thing, but they still kinda did... they actually got married in secret with just like signing it off legally with a celebrant then they exchanged their personalised vows in private, but alex actually found out and was like omg and you didn't tell me?? partly joking. but they end up actually having like technically a vow renewal ceremony(?) a few months later because alex was honestly just teasing him a bit about not going above and beyond for her, and that she deserves a proper ceremony and a dress and all that, mainly just taking playful jabs at him, but still, like she obviously didn't know why diana just didn't really care for weddings and such, even though it really was a special moment for her with him, just at the time she still had so much negative connotation with anything relating to marriage...

you know that meme from the office that's like jim holding up a ring and he says "got it a week after we started dating" cause like. yeah. not far off to be honest. like i mean we all know they were actually kind of together for over a year (and a half? and he was obsessed from her like very early on), but i mean once he finally tells her he loves her after denying it for that long he starts thinking about just asking her... they already live together, they've technically been together for so long, they have this strange connection he hasn't really felt before. and it's weird. cause he was always so sure he'd never ask someone to marry him, that it wasn't his thing... it's the "i never wanted to get married and considered it pointless, but i want it with you" for me

but okay, proposal, i mean i already screamed about this to you, but after a few months and designing a ring down to the finest details (which by the way, not a typical diamond ring), he asks her while they're out on a little date. they had gone to a restaurant near the park, then just stopped by for a night-time stroll because diana loves the woodland path. when they're heading back over the bridge at the pond, diana notices him fiddling with something in his pocket with the hand that's not holding her own but she doesn't really put much thought into it. then when she thinks they're going to leave, he pulls her over to one of the benches before she like notices him get a little nervous. like not nervous as in what you'd expect from anyone else, but he's a bit off which she can just pick up on. then he doesn't ask her to marry him. he asks if she would spend the rest of her life with him. because it's not even about getting married or a wedding, like it's a promise of just complete and utter devotion that he's felt for so long but hasn't really known how to show her in words. and they had never put a label on their relationship, even after they said they loved each other. so it's like a very big deal in a lot of ways i guess. idk i could ramble about this forever cause there's a lot of lore so i'll stop for now. that's the bare-bones of it

i still have absolutely no idea what they do for their honeymoon. they don't have one right after or even close to after they get married because neither of them really thought about it, and they were both just so busy with their work. then of course everything happens with her uh being almost killed because of suspicions of her position within umbrella... and then shortly after she's recovered from that, everything with the mansion goes down. with the idea of them getting away from umbrella and the city, like they figure they can have one then but i'm not sure when exactly... i think probably the year after, because of course work never stops with them going back to her company and him settling in there and becoming an agent then what happens with the outbreak, before him later being in h.c.f. like there's a lot going on. but i think it would be really chill, maybe her taking him back to australia just for a little visit...

so they never had any pets until after the volcano because they just never had time to look after one, and they still didn't really with my canon but it was easier given the circumstance. they get a little cerberus guy because apparently umbrella corps were able to get some of them from an outbreak with the tricell headquarters, probably for tests or the experiment. but i had the idea that one of the dogs just maybe had retained some of its intelligence more than the others, and didn't just attack on instinct. well, it did, but not with these two. when diana actually went and looked at the dogs, this one was very calm with her and actually took orders from her, then with him also, and it was to do with the viruses in them both. and just recently found out (thanks to @ossanonsen) that in the umbrella chronicles novelisations he actually has a physical link with some b.o.w.s. and can control them... so um. it works. also they don't have to worry about forgetting to feed this guy, diana can just give him some scraps of her experiments <3
