Dare Me: Ch. 24
Hello, my lovely readers. Klaus finds Care falling for someone else. Maybe… On with the show…
Chapter 24: I'll Be Your Girl: Part II
A party in my honor would ordinarily be something I would relish. However, I did not relish the attention coming with the event Caroline Forbes had created for me. Tonight, she planned a party in which I would be introduced to the males of our town. Mating tradition. What had I gotten myself into with my new identity: Nikki Gulespy.
"You look so hot," Caroline told me with a wide grin.
I turned around to look at myself in the mirror. Hot? Really? Oh, Caroline! I shuddered inwardly. My girlfriend had put some kind of glittery eye shadow on my eyes, and a bit too much eyeliner, in my opinion.
Tugging on the tight shirt Caroline had given me to wear, I tried not to glower at my reflection too long. Caroline meant to be kind to newcomer Nikki. I should try to appreciate what her efforts did. Maybe.
Elena strode in and placed a hand on her hip. "Look who's ready to part-y!" she pumped a fist in the air and offered me a wicked grin. Elena knew who I really was. And I think she was enjoying this little farce I was putting on more than I was.
Bonnie came in and walked over to inspect my makeup. "Maybe a little more gloss."
Caroline nodded. She twisted the cap off the tube of lip gloss, moving to place it on my mouth when I caught her wrist. "Thanks. But no." I said this as firmly as I could, ducking my head and trying to play into my character's "shy" exterior.
Pouting, Caroline rolled her eyes. "O-kay. I just want you to be as pretty as I know you are on the inside."
"With makeup?" I retorted, forgetting myself for a moment.
Caroline nodded. She leaned over me, pressing her face close to mine, peering at the two of us in the mirror and pursing her lips. "Think of makeup as like a mask. You decide who you want to be. And that's who you become."
"Like on Halloween?" I inquired, glancing at the gloss she'd yet to put aside.
Caroline grinned. "Sort of. But sometimes we use it every day. It's like, as girls, we're always performing a part." Her eyes glazed for a moment and she looked deeply unhappy. When she caught me staring, she brightened back up. "Come on! I want to show you what I've done with the living room!"
I allowed Caroline to tug me to my feet. She led me out to the Forbes' living room. It had been decorated with fairy lights with silver and gold bulbs giving the room a soft glow. Warm red, yellow and orange sheets were thrown over the furniture to evoke a fall leaf motif. Music played on the stereo. Bowls of snacks were in the kitchen area.
I could tell Caroline did a lot with very little money. "Wonderful," I breathed. I turned on my heel to take in the whole set-up. Even the ceiling had glow-in-the-dark stars and moons on it. How lovely. Perhaps I would paint a setting like this for her.
"You like?" Caroline asked me, rocking on her heels.
"I do." I nodded in approval.
