I haven't relistened to nona the ninth yet so maybe this is unfair but it just doesn't seem to have the iconic scenes that the previous books do. gtn has the fourth house deaths which is just brutally well done, it has the thanergy field scene with dulcinea, and it has the pool scene. htn tops that with the soup scene, dios apate minor, and ianthe's arm, not to mention the AUs. (I'm sure everyone has their own favourites but those scenes really stand out to me as incredibly well written and intricately tied to the rest of the plot). And other than the scenes related to Paul (which I feel just speaks to the strength of Cam and Pal's characters, which aren't even established in nona) I can't really think of any scenes that I find iconic which is a shame because the potential was totally there if only an entire book wasn't written with the amount of information previously stuffed into three chapters of previous books.
#gideon the ninth#harrow the ninth#the locked tomb spoilers#it's not that I think nona is a bad book#but compared to the sheer rocking talent in previous books I think it's a letdown esp because nothing is resolved and no new information#and no new information is presented
