James 5:16 disputes the idea that it has to be solely priests. The John 20 passage is if you believe Jesus declared the disciples priests, but James 5:16 says to one another.
Hebrews 7:26-28 points to Jesus being the most high priest, pointing out that the Law appoints men as high priests who are weak, but the Son is perfect.
1 John 1:9 says if we confess our sins (no mention of a priest) we will be forgiven and cleansed of all unrighteousness.
There's merit to confessing sins to another believer (sin likes secrecy), and the Catholics do make it easier with the anonymity of their confessionals. But the believers to confess to do not have to be priests, and Jesus is appointed most high priest.
girl doesn't have to go to confession
Taking struggles to Jesus and a trusted fellow believer are enough- girl does not need to go to confessional to have sins forgiven.
girl help I'm being faced with the overwhelming depth of my own sin
#further passages suggest that Jesus talking to the disciples in John 20 was not an indication of priests forgiving sins#but goes in line with a couple of other spots about believers forgiving sins committed against them and God not holding it against the#sinner in question#especially about the part where retaining sins will be retained#but it's late#I have other things I need to focus my energy on so I don't want to write an entire dissertation on that#I don't care if Catholics want to confess only to priests- that's your prerogative#and confession of sins to others among Protestants is lacking true#but can we not pretend the Protestants don't have Biblical backing for their belief
