My solo scene was an encounter with a girl in eighteenth-century costume, filmed in a dance studio above a pub in Shepherd’s Bush. I had hoped that my great acting moment would be preserved for all time, but alas, it was not to be. It ended up on the cutting-room floor after Dick expressed the feeling that it held up the pace of the finished movie. Just as well, really, because I think the scene was a bit suspect, a little po-faced, with the camera swirling round and round. I’m sure Dick was right to ditch it - but I still point out that pub to my kids every time we go through Shepherd’s Bush.
-- Paul McCartney in the introduction to Andrew Yule, The Man who "framed" the Beatles: A Biography of Richard Lester (1994)
As the studio had a policy for holding footage for only 5 years after a film's completion, only the script remains for Paul’s scene in A Hard Day’s Night
