So, as a woman who is currently in what a lot of outsiders would call a “traditional” marriage (he works, I dont*) I think it’s important for people to know that it CAN be a lovely, mutually beneficial and respectful situation. But not if y’all aren’t fully and openly and FRANKLY communicating. Not if it’s built on servitude.

If your husband wants you to stay home, he better be willing to grant you access to every single piece of financial information. Every account in our marriage is joint. I not only have access to his personal financial spreadsheets, I also have the ability to check that all of it is accurate because I can log into our banking apps and see that the money is really there. I also have an account under my name that money goes into every other week to save or spend as I see fit. And these were protections I demanded before we ever signed that marriage license.

Being somebody who works in the home IS STILL WORK. I contribute upwards of 60k in domestic labor every single year, and that more than entitles me to equal say in household decisions. If ever a day came that my husband disagreed with that, I’d fucking leave him. And I wouldn’t be broke when I did, because I’m entitled to half of everything. He well knows that and has always agreed.

Domestic labor is an act of love as much as it is real work. And I do it because I love it. I love the freedom, I love the responsibility, I love feeling like I’m contributing to something real instead of just underselling my time to a corporation. But it is dangerous work in a world that sees it as less valuable than corporate servitude. In a world where many men see domestic work as “a woman’s place” and does not provide safety nets for people who could be exploited in that field.

Domestic labor is LABOR, and your spouse is not your boss; they are supposed to be your partner. The minute you start feeling like an employee instead of a partner, get the fuck out of that situation because it will only ever get worse. Protect yourself, and have these hard talks before you even THINK of walking down that isle.

* I am working at a summer camp this summer, and we’re both really excited. Just because I love my job doesn’t mean I don’t sometimes want variety and opportunities. It’s good for me, and my husband has always fully supported whatever I want to do.

I genuinely hate those "I pay the bill and she cooks in a thong videos" and it's even more embarassing when women are like "aww, green flag 🥹" "I love it, this is what you call a provider" and.... I think that people very easily forget that the hand that feeds you can also starve you. Also, what about when he no longer finds the sight of her in a thong attractive? Oh, yes, he cheats on her and then the woman has to stay in an unhappy marriage because she is financially dependent on him....sucks. We live in a capitalist society, meaning that EVERYTHING is dependent on how much money you have, you give the responsibility of that to someone else, you're fucked for life and I really want all the girls to understand this. It's okay if he wants to pay for everything, you should still be working and have an account just in case. Your husband can be the best person ever and the point stills stands.

Arthur loves to draw his partner, in any state, sleeping, awake, happy, sad. He wants to capture every movement and every moment. He loves going back and seeing how you looked one day as opposed to another.

If Arthur is upset or on edge about something i think he would actively avoid eating. Like not starving himself exactly….just avoiding eating. Not actively seeking out food or anything, would eat if offered something, but wouldn’t go out of his way to get food for himself.

Spends way too long critiquing himself in the mirror, picking and plucking at his hair to get it to sit right, biting his nails down to look more “masculine”, practicing facial expressions to make sure he doesn’t look like a fool.

I think he purposely hides his face with his hat, it could be dark as night, he could be inside, and he would keep his gaze down. Either too insecure to look up, or feeling as if hes too intimidating for the moment.

He likes when his partner bathes him and vice-versa. He’ll talk about whatever, Dutch’s plan, Micah’s insolence, the reverend’s refusal to get better, Sadie’s gunslinging. Anything. When hes in the bath, hes very emotionally vulnerable.

Hes so grabby. By the waist, by the hand, by the belt loop. forehead kisses, nips to the neck or shoulder, hand on his partner’s head.

If he gets particularly comfortable, he would show his partner some of his drawings, maybe just the small ones, like the drawings of animals he finds, or plants. The whole time he just mutters about how bad they are or how he “hardly spent time on it” which makes his partner even more impressed.

Always, always, ALWAYS has some sort of fresh fruit on him, cant STAND the taste of canned fruit after eating them for months straight, thinks the sugar level is too much and can’t handle it anymore.

talks to his horse probably more than he talks to most people. Just any horse really. He’ll sit on the porches of businesses and just talk to the horses hitched there.

Rarely steals anymore, but if he’s really low on money, he might. Of course, the second Dutch claims to have a plan hes robbing left and right. But personally, he doesnt see the appeal much anymore. Will definitely loot people who tried to shoot him though.

Loves exploring, will spend days on the trail, in different states and environments just seeing what he can. Though, he once came upon an old shack just west of a river and got so sick he had to stay back at camp for a few weeks.

Loots old abandoned buildings. Doesn’t matter if its filled with only stale bread and ammo, sometimes if he’s lucky he’ll find a few dollars and he likes the idea of holding onto it to give someone in the future.

Claims he trusts Dutch’s plan, but has never once contributed money for camp. Well, one time he did. A few cents. But only because Grimshaw had gotten upset with him. Always makes sure everyone has food though.

Spends a lot of time around camp, often times neglecting tasks in favor of just being around the gang. Besides, it pushes them to contribute too.

He rarely cuts his hair. Keeps his beard low, but prefers having long hair. Claims it covers his neck to protect him from the heat, but just likes how it covers more of his body.

sleeps for either 38 hours uninterrupted or doesn’t sleep for a week. No in between at all.

Such a sucker for seeing his partner on their knees. He loves the eye contact. Thinks eyes are the window to the soul and absolutely just melts whenever he sees his partners eyes looking up at him.

He likes to hold his partner’s hands during missionary, just one, both, holding their hands above their head. He loves it, he loves running his thumb over their veins while he does it.

Kneads his partner’s thighs when he’s between them.

He has a whole lot of self control. Stops the second he sees hes doing something wrong. His partner looks just a little too uncomfortable, hes paused. “Darlin’..? alright?” “Theres my good girl/boy.”

Keeps a pretty consistent pace. But the second he feels nails dig into his back or hands grip his hair, his hips stutter and his next few thrusts get all sloppy.

I think he would be VERY good at tying his partner up. Though it isnt really his thing, he absolutely would if they asked.

He growls, he pants. Animalistic sounds are absolutely his thing. Loves making noise.

Cant do quickies, he tried once. Left him feeling so unfinished and unfulfilled.

Hes been with women before, had a kid before, he absolutely knows what hes doing, and has discussed the possibility of kids, but inevitably came to the conclusion that if it didn’t happen by accident he didn’t want to bring a little one into this world. (Though one major point for wanting one was seeing how well his partner was with Jack.)

Absolutely will NOT do knife or gun play, worried he might hurt you. (unlike low honor Arthur who i think would love that kind of stuff.)

What's your opinion on cass and jasons relationship/dynamic?

Anon thank you so much for this ask but there was a time when I couldn't go 2 weeks without Cass-Jason discourse popping up in the tags 😭. Thankfully it's been calmer now but I do not want to start anything up again 😭😭😭.

Anyway, I'm of the opinion they don't get along! Honestly the barely-interacting thing they have going on right now in comics makes sense to me. The biggest hurdle obviously was Jason/Cass' differing views on killing, but even in the modern age with Jason swearing off killing, I think they wouldn't vibe. Cass is way too similar to Bruce for either of them to be comfortable with each other. Also the only person they like in common is Duke really, and I do NOT imagine he'd ever hang out with both of them at the same time.

If you're interested in Cass-Jason takes I like, I compiled it in a section of my Cass Cain meta list. And here's my biggest contribution to Cass-Jason scholarship. I don't really have many thoughts others haven't already articulated better!

--- I personally (and I think later seasons may show why) lean towards the other direction of this "Scooby gang fighting" problem, where they should have had the gang become active vampire fighters but via very focused "levelling up" in that capacity, with defined roles and skills. I do get the appeal of the vampires just being completely in another league, but it is a TV show with a defined cast and a lot of fight scenes - it would get boring pretty quick if the rest can never contribute and would miss a ton of arcs, right? But I am proposing that as a solution to the same problem you are observing, where the strength of normies vs vampires is inconsistent - sometimes they can beat em, other times they are helpless, and it doesn't seem very logical. I do think this is a valid ding against the show's world building

--- There are technically other Hellmouths - to explain my joke, not-at-all-important-spoiler here, there is a Hellmouth in Cleveland and they joke about going there once or twice - but they are not at all common. Kendra was definitely doing something - there are always more demons to kill - but to be frank she was probably doing much less important things than Buffy was, the Watchers didn't really have a plan for two Slayers being activated at once after all. The Watcher's Council typically "moves" the Slayer about to various regions, responding to this or that big threat as needed, and Buffy being a bit more committed to her post due to her social life is a minor plot point in the series. (Re: Watchers and their intentions - no comment!)

--- Don't quote me on this as I am dredging up decade+ memories, but I think they discussed having the principal die pretty frequently, and then they had Snyder and were like "no, I'm sorry, he is way too fun, we are not cutting him". A frequent problem on Buffy lol, as "bit villain who was supposed to die in the middle of Season 2 and then James Marsters happened" Spike shows!

--- I am a big fan of Xander/Cordelia, partially as a Xander fan and also because they are just fucking funny. I appreciate their realism - a lot of romances do start from very murky grounds and take time to grow, and they have a good time being dumb teens about that journey. I can think of a few episodes where they use their magic-plot-problem-of-the-week to explore that to great effect.

--- Lol, if you want insight into Deep Buffy Fandom Discourse, a lot of people haaate Xander, and yeah it is primarily because of his early seasons Buffy obsession. I am more tolerant, but he clearly has a writing problem - in Season 1 I think it is quite good, it is his explicit arc, it is the plot, he is building up to asking her out and being rejected. But then in Season 2 they have not-much to do with him, but he is around, they use him as comic relief... and settled on objectifying comments and jealous barbs as their mechanism. It aged poorly even at the time, and imo was something of a mistake they didn't realize they were making. Such is TV!

--- Just like Angelus fucks, Giles fuuuuucks, and his Ripper past is a load-bearing part of that. The typical Buffy arc for the girlfans is "watch it as a teen, think Angel is the hottest thing ever. Rewatch it as an adult, realize Giles is lapping that emo sopfest"

--- Lmao I like the pagan stuff! But okay, I do think this is a bit of an "era" thing - in the 90's the Wiccan stuff was new, it was the hot new thing in alt goth nerd discourse. Like The Craft came out in 1996, literally a year before Buffy aired. This is what nerd witches did in this era, so the show pretty much couldn't ignore it. And it was pretty well-connected to a bunch of feminist topics which aligned with the show's thematics. It was/is also hella gay, and that might be important later. (Though what is weird is not the presence of Wicca, but the absence of Christian spellcasting. They fight vampires using crosses and holy water, and yet there is no Christian magical catechism to call upon? I get that Giles says a bunch of Latin sometimes, but that isn't the same)

--- Kendra is very cool conceptually, and alas imo is underutilized - she is a whole different Slayer/Watcher dynamic and I would have liked to have seen it explored more! It is 100% an actor thing, they had Bianca Watson for when they had her and could afford her and had script space, TV be that way Though, fun Kendra fact - Watson was originally going to play Cordelia, but she had other roles that interfered so they had to drop her. Amusing to me as Cordelia & Kendra couldn't be more opposite characters!

--- It is very cute how you like all the silly (positive connotation) episodes! Killed by Death is a very silly name, and I think they knew that while scary that was also not an "important" episode and wanted to have fun with it. Meanwhile I think the Fishman episode is one of the least popular in the season, but I do find it charming - lots of good Xander/Cordelia moments and I like how everyone at this school, even the staff, are just totally nuts. Though it's ordering in the season is obviously a mistake, should have been earlier and not right in the middle of the Angelus Arc.

So, why does the Slayer matter? Buffy's power set seems to be an extremely mild case of increased strength and quicker healing. And she gets visions, occasionally, I guess.

Why doesn't Giles go out and fight vampires more often? He did a lot better against Angel than I expected. Even Xander is able to slap a vampire around in "Becoming, Part 1."

Sure, maybe Buffy is the strongest human around, but it seems like four normies could do her job. Hardly "she alone can fight the vampires" material – and what's going on in the rest of the world, while the Slayer patrols the streets of one particular town in California?

I'm very confused about this.

This is something that is going to be a combination of "gaping plot hole" and "you just gotta watch the series". For the latter, you will learn more later on about the Slayers, their historical role, their relationship with vampires, etc. They have a je ne sais quo that others cannot match - to say something that isn't really spoilery and only is ever implied, they have an ability to "rise to the challenge" that others simply don't. Others can beat any individual vampire or demon, but can never take on any of them at any time the way a Slayer can.

Additionally, and this is I am pretty sure never openly stated but just is very obviously true, they are fucking vampire magnets. Buffy will go on a midnight ice cream run to a 7-11 and encounter more vampires than a military patrol unit actively on the hunt for an entire week will - and that example is only very loosely changed from actual events that happen in the show. She can hunt vampires better because vampires are just drawn by destiny to her side to try to kill her; it is authentically her greatest value-add vis a vis her day-to-day Slaying role.

But yeah, it obviously is also just a huge plot hole. Clearly the Watcher's Council should be doing way more, Buffy should have teams of support who use combined arms of guns and stakes to keep the riffraff down while she focuses on big bads, etc. At a certain point, being a teen hero means society needs to hold the idiot ball to give you a chance to be it, and Buffy's focus on high school relationship drama and personal growth didn't leave a lot of space to address that.

As for the rest of the world, remember this particular California town is the location of the Hellmouth - other places have radically lower per capita monster populations, so they need less help. Presumably. Sucks to be Cleveland I guess (you will get that joke later).

Still, while per capita rates are lower, obviously places like Los Angeles have radically higher populations, and so clearly must have some real vampire and demon problems they gotta deal with. If you want to know more about how a Slayer-less place like Los Angeles handles things, tune in to watch Angel at 9:00 PM/8:00 PM Central, airing only the WB!!

Thoughts on the new DMC trailer?

Going to be honest I haven't watched any trailers since the trailer at the Game Awards (or whichever one I have those 2 breakdown posts for) 😅 I keep seeing the trailer announcements when I don't have my headphones on me, and I've been behind on watching them once I have the time... maybe tomorrow I'll finally get to watching them! Tonight I'm dead tired so I don't think I'd be in much of a good mood and I don't want to start off on the wrong foot, so to speak. When I watch them I can make a write up on it though! Would probably be fun.

I think an underlooked part of what shaped jin’s mindset was how even back in Torna, he was considered “property”. He and Lora spent their whole lives avoiding the authorities of Torna because they believed would straight up execute Lora to get Jin back, and no one ever denies it. and this has seemingly been a fear since Lora was a child. Jin had to hide his face everywhere he went. Maybe Torna wouldn’t have been cruel enough to execute a child, especially since the king seemed decent(?) enough, if not a bit distant. But the fact it was even a fear at all for Lora since she was so young is just awful to think about. 

According to his past self’s journals, Jin and his old driver fought in a war of independence for Torna, perhaps what made him a hero to begin with. and because he’s a war hero for deeds he doesn’t even remember, the kingdom considers him owned by them. Which is on the nose in two different ways ngl. Both in how the Blades are seen and a wider metaphor of soldiers/state. idk it’s just very sad to think about
