A lot of Icarus analogies would be better suited to Phaeton imho. The myth of Icarus is that of someone that touches freedom for the first time in his life and is so inebriated by it that it kills him (and of course that freedom can be anything). That of Phaeton instead is the myth of someone that tries to be on par with the gods, either because of arrogance or because he thinks it's his birthright, and finds out that he can't and has no right to it
#the horses know he's not a god. reality knows he's delusional#I understand the beauty of icarus and the similarities in the fall and fire imagery#plus since christianity we're used to associate god to wings (angels and doves) more than with chariots#so Icarus is striking#but Icarus wasn't daring. he was desperately escaping and it killed him#better a long life in a prison or a brief moment of perfect and absolute joy following by all encompassing terror#(let's ignore the moral of the story because it's irrelevant)#whereas Phaeton tried to play at being a god because he was the son of a god#but he was also the son of a human and he forgot that#epica
