LITERALLY this. And even stuff that is at most vaguely based on mistakes they actually make is always blown way out of proportion when male characters can do and say far worse and get just...all kinds of excuses made.

A female character can't have so much as a moment where she makes a poor decision due to previously established character flaws or the mere stress of a situation, or where she snaps at someone under stress, or a moment where she - heaven forBID - focuses on her needs and misses an area man's stress or sadness in the moment without being labeled as selfish and uncaring and all but responsible for his mental breakdown later (real one I recently saw) ...people talk a big game about wanting "more realistic flawed female characters who aren't perfect all the time" but half the time I KNOW they don't really mean it as much as they think they do. Cause when they actually get a woman who has human things like flaws, or a bad temper or just. Human frailties like the other characters people all but call her a selfish bitch who's a leech off of the obviously more important and NEVER in any way selfish (or if he is its EARNED dontchaknow) male characters around her, even if that's clearly not an even slightly fair or accurate read of her character or the situation. She's not allowed to be too human or she's flanderized and turned into a parody of her former self.

i hate the way that “female characters are just not as well written as male characters” persists even after years and years of people pointing out that is simply a bad excuse, that people will rehabilitate a poorly written man and flatten a well written woman time and time again. i hate the way that no one can take this criticism, this simple truth that they are biased against women, and work to slowly dismantle this part of themselves. instead it’s just, there are no good women

So she could be told in case something happened and he was trapped in fucking HELL and he #was still sad about Jessamy's death like. Holy fuck way to sprain something with that reach #God forbid she have a single moment where she yes is a little more focused on her needs than his!!! If morpheus had had a moment like that #nobody would have batted an EYE if anything everyone would've been praising him for how smart and caring he was looking out for her #kudos to the person I also saw going '...okay both of then are having a moment of human frailty and competing needs. This is not a bad thin #not everything in fiction needs ro be sorted into Victim and Abuser especially when that does not fit these characters at all' and in like #thank christ there is sense here #but I'm still not over that.
