You'd say you're surprised, but it tracks for the sheer amount of misfortune that seems to seep into all aspects of your life.

Damn that Erwin. Neither Captain Asshat nor you wanted to be sent on this stupid retrieval mission, but here the two of you are: trapped beneath the earth in a small, crumbling basement—all the while, a great horde of titans looms on the surface, lumberingly stomping around—looking for you.

You'd call this something else other than a retrieval mission, but seeing as neither Erwin nor Brick Wall wanted to clue you in on what was actually being retrieved, you can now assume that the only retrieval going on may be his body at a later date, since His Highness Humanity's Strongest is so damn special.

Yours will be left behind to rot or be eaten, undoubtedly. You won't even get a grave.

You shove that nagging thought away for the time being. It's only pulling on the unraveling threads of your sanity more.

You'd also say it was Levi's fault you wound up in this basement, but it would be a lie.

You saw this building on the way. You wanted to investigate it. You politely asked in the tone of a strong suggestion. (To your credit, there were no titans in sight at the time.)

Always the torturer, he'd, of course, said no. Well, more like absolutely not.

But just as you passed it, naturally, you just so happened to have to pee. So, just as naturally, you took some time to explore—as every good soldier should, of course. For safety purposes. And retrieval purposes. They were good, reasonable reasons far more than reasonable.

Well, that was probably the biggest mistake you will ever get to make in your now incredibly short life.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

It was something quite theatrical. The hallway that led to the basement collapsed just moments after you entered it with a nagging Captain in tow. The rubble was impossible to move.

And to top it off, apparently, the titans—which managed to come from nowhere, you still don't know how—wanted to do some exploring of their own, too.

Quite oafishly, might you add. By the way it's looking, this whole place is going to come down by the end of the night, crushing you and the Captain in it to forever be intertwined as Idiot and Asshat. You'd hoped your demise would at least be as glorious as the average soldier's, but grim doesn't even begin to cover how things have unfolded. It even has a heaping teaspoon of stupid in the mix.

Luck—no, fate can be so damned cruel. And you'd like to know which ancestor scarred your familial line enough to deserve the worst outcomes, because you definitely have not done nearly enough in your life to warrant this tortuous end.

You wish you could say your dignity was not harmed in this process. But it's another lie. You're being a bit of a mess right now.

Okay, a bit is a bit of an understatement. You're pacing the small square of the room. You're panting thick, dusty air in and out of your lungs. Your heart thunders in your ears. You can hardly think. You might even be fighting back several tears.

Standing against the wall in his own declared corner of a kingdom, Supreme King Asshat seems to be fairing the encroaching inevitability of demise much better than you are.

Figures. Your damned luck and all. Or fate. Whatever hates you, honestly. Because something greater does, other than the Captain.

Being stuck with him in all this, too, is a bonus. Icing on top of a shitty cake. As if being the newest recruit of his Squad wasn't enough torment for you, it double figures you'd die with the man whose glaring indifference to everything in the world makes your blood boil. Glaring indifference to everything but himself, that is.

"Shaking won't do you any good," he pipes up as you pass the newly established edges of his kingdom.

Great. Now he decides to talk.

Il a un concours de cuisine à gagner contre la brigade de la Petite Résistance mais il doit aussi gérer les sautes d'humeur de son propre coéquipier, Kylo Ren, descendant d'une longue lignée de cuisiniers mythiques. Du Kylux, un soupçon de Luke Skywalker/Wedge Antilles et peut-être un poil de Stormpilot sur le long terme.

-> The fic that fanart made me think of! The author was publishing a translation in english here, it hasn't been updated in 2019 and it only goes up to chapter 6 but since you're reading in french 👀 personally I thought it might not hold up to my current tastes but I reread it like a year ago and it really did! It's great, I love it. The puns are funny, it feels like watching a cooking contest but you also get UST on top, impeccable.

• the En ton nom series, Ben & Sheev (210k & 23 chapters, 198k & 16 chapters)

-> It has been almost 5 whole years since I first read this fic and I'm still mentally ill about it (mostly in a good way). It predates Armitage as a first name for Hux and the ending absolutely destroyed me. I read it during the holidays at like a lunch with family and I was just sobbing in a corner of the room because of these two and I do not regret looking like an idiot in that moment because the emotional Moment was worth it. Absolute masterpiece. If you finish it come tell me about it even if it takes you years because that ending... listen I love the fic so very much but I won't lie that dot dot dot is (derogatory). The emotional wreckage of it was not satisfying to teen me but I'm still thinking about it with minimal prompting 5 years later and that's how you can tell the author did a great job. To be clear this is a cherished memory even if I wasn't crying with joy. There's also an english translation being worked on by im_your_hope!

• I also have good memories of L'autre con, but it's been years so they're just vague memories. It was written as a prompt fill for a fic starting with "Y'a encore l'autre con dans ma chambre", like Y'a encore l'autre con dans my chambre by Hermineuh! (that's uh, "that other dumbass is in my room again") And speaking of Hermineuh...

• Dites-le avec des fleurs by Hermineuh (30k, 6 chapters)

Hux a un secret. Rien d'extravagant ni de malsain, fort heureusement. Juste une petite passion qu'il s'est découverte il y a peu et qu'il compte bien garder pour lui. Ce serait tellement dommage si le Maître des Chevaliers de Ren venait à le découvrir. Vraiment dommage…

I was scrolling of FFnet trying to find something interesting, this seemed a safe bet, and then BAM surprise Kylux, and now look at me. Thank you Hermineuh for single-handedly selling me on the ship. This fic changed my life and also it's good!

Oh yes! The whole thing is planned out! I'm still contemplating spreading it out over more chapters because the last ones might be... super duper long... The first 20 chapters were written out almost completely, which is why I can post these fairly quickly, but the rest is still a rough draft. On average, chapters are 10k each, and at the moment it will be around 375k when finished BUT when I originally drafted the story I didn't want it to end 🥺 and I wrote a 30k ending that's not included in that 375k 😂 I'm going to make that more compact but I would not be surprised if I went massively over that 375k 😂 there's a looooot of story left to tell... to be honest, we haven't really gotten started yet..... 👀😏🦁🪶🦒

So many people were asking me about "A Series of Unfortunate Tea Times" so I've posted about that one here.

Thanks for asking about "Bloom"! "Bloom" was a story very near and dear to my heart that I started during 007 fest, but never could quite finish. I think it's somewhere around 30k and still unfinished. I wanted to write something very soft, but I think this might be too soft?

Essentially it's another story where Bond is physically and emotionally tired of the job, but he can't quit because he thinks he's not fit to do anything else. And then he happens to meet Q outside of work and discovers that Q has a hobby for botany. And Bond learns that his hands can be for more than just killing.

Here is a snippet under the cut :)

Bond sees it now, why they’re called moth orchids. They have the shape of a Polyphemus moth, but they’re even showier in a rich, luscious purple. Bond reaches out a hand, but stops before he touches.

“You can touch them,” Q says, and, perhaps sensing Bond's hesitation, goes on encouragingly: “it won’t hurt them.”

Q lifts a hand and delicately strokes one of the petals with his fingertips. They’re beautiful, Bond realises. He’s always watched Q’s hands—at his workstation frenetically typing, meticulously fixing equipment, confidently checking the chamber of a gun—and always admired his efficiency, his quickness; the skills needed to go quickly without fumbling or causing error. But now he sees them in another way, the way he’s pretended not to notice for a while now; like how soft they can be, like they are when he applies antiseptic and plasters, the grace of his wrist when he unwinds gauze bandages, and it’s here now in the elegant sweep of his finger across this orchid’s silken petal. What would it be like? To have Q touch him like that? So purely, so purposefully? Is he even deserving of it? That gentleness?

“Go on,” Q says softly.

Bond hesitates again. For the first time in weeks, he thinks about the bomb dogs abandoned in the Middle East. Just like them, he’s been trained to do one thing. These hands are made for killing. And he’s good at it: with a gun, with a knife, with his bare hands round someone’s throat. He’s been doing this for so long that he’s not sure he’s capable of anything else. Gentleness? He’s not sure how to be, not anymore. 

But Q’s watching him, and it’s almost imploring, and Bond can’t deny him. He’ll try.

The back of his finger brushes the soft, purple petal. It’s smooth, and tender; fragile, almost. Like touching the inside of someone’s wrist. He could easily rip it, crush it in his palm. There would be no effort on his part to destroy it entirely. 

Instead, he touches it again, with the utmost care, just to prove he can. And he’s filled with awe and wonder at this, that he can be gentle, maybe even kind. 

It makes him wonder if one of those dogs left to die in the sand dunes of Afghanistan wandered into a village and met the kind hand of a stranger. Someone who put a bowl of water out for him, who shared their fire with him at night. Maybe someone who threw a stick, taught him to play, so that his dreams were not only ones of blood and smoke and IEDs. Maybe, just maybe, one of them got a second chance; a second chance to be something other than what they were made to be.

Out of the corner of his eye, he sees Q smile. He allows himself to smile, too.

His hands may have been made for killing, but maybe, just maybe, they can be made for something else.
