Deltarune Yellow ramble Soul drain/Dalv themed Dark world

I originally posted this all on twitter last night but I decided to share it here too this will get very ramblely btw

I think dalv would very quickly warm up to the idea of dark worlds tbh I think he'd accidentally open one be scared shitless for a bit before beginning to enjoy it on Pacifist (and maybe deluding himself into thinking it's real just a bit)

The dark world itself would be pretty obviously a Halloween and or gothic inspired kinda thing (I also like the corn yaoi based idea that Dalv and Starlo are roommates so maybe a bit of cowboy in there too)

I really like the idea of Antagonist Pops too like he's not the main Antagonist but he convinces Dalv to stay here with him their best friends after all doesn't dalv just wanna stay and play with his best friend forever? =)

(I also imagine a dark world pop's being very childish real whiny and off-putting to everyone but Dalv)

I'm am fucking exploding over @/daydreamdeputy idea of a blue corn ballerina for the secret boss of the chapter (I am going feral)

I also have no idea the kinda story it would have but I love the Snowgrave based idea @/Hotlinedreams had for this were Dalv drains the life from the enemies and he also leaves any lightners a shell of their former self (cough cough Starlo cough cough)

OK now for the ramble about the main Blood Drain route

Now Dalv and Clover would team but around the same point in the chapter Kris and Noelle did and Dalv is a lot less willing to bite people then Noelle is to freeze people.

He refuses to use the attack the first few times not wanting to hurt anyone but after Clover a few times like 3 he uses it.

At first once it's done Dalv is horrified he just kill an innocent "Monster" (Dalv at this point probably thinks its all a dream like noelle did)

But after a few moments he's hit with a rush a power and euphonia from "Getting Stronger" it leaves him feeling hungry both physically and mentally.

As the route continues Dalv is much more happy to just use the attack on anything that moves his mind is clouded by a euphonia driven haze he's not exactly thinking for himself he's just letting clover tell him whatever as long as he can feel that power again.

His dark world magic item is a gothic style choker (mainly cos its the closets think to his mouth that I think he would wear)

I'm not sure what the second one would be but the last would be like the Thorn ring pain for power the pain and extended time from bitting something makes his mind a bit more clear for the starlo battle.

Star the entire time is trying to talk both you and Dalv down still playing "hero" not 100% realising the gravity of the situation.

But you eventually make dalv use his snowgrave version (Soul Drain) on Star and Stars colours become dull as he slumps to the floor unconscious.

Dalv picks him up telling clover that "He's gonna take a rest" before walking off and staying in his room in wherever the Antagonist lives (Idk about them tbh)

He lays down with Starlo and Pops telling himself that it's all just a bad dream as he falls asleep =)

(Sorry if that one is a bit out of character I so super sleepy when I wrote it)

I am definitely also team I hope in my heart amane and tsukasa are working together lol. one thing that surprised me in 113 was teru, akane, and nene all splitting up, since they’re the only ones we’ve seen who remember the other timeline. And that is a WONDERFUL thought! I hadn't considered the implications of them splitting up at all. Yes, I imagine they'll all be getting up to some business one way or another...

Regarding specifically who I'd like Nene to meet, obviously Yugi-sensei! But I have little doubt AidaIro will deliver on that, lol. Oh, and I'd just LOVE for her to meet the rumor Tsukasa-kun too... Which I also have little doubt about... ehm... ...

I do feel like she'd want to bring Kou-kun into all this? If she can, at least. He's on her side after all and he wouldn't be happy about this new world if he knew. That said, Kou and Nene are always teaming up to the point it's gotten to be cliché... and I feel he tends to steal the show from Nene when they're together, too, so I really hope it's something else actually!!!

Someone who could be more useful to Nene is Tsuchigomori, who is not only buddy-buddy with the new Hanako but also the school's resident supernatural record keeper. It's a little shocking since everyone's alive rn but Kamome Academy is still haunted and likely has an entire new cast of Mysteries. 😭 Err...probably, anyway. We can't say for sure but most likely...

Anyway, since Team NTA (Nene Teru Akane) are investigating what was changed in the past so that they can undo it, I bet Tsuchigomori could help if he's willing to share his secrets with Nene. I'm not sure if Nene would be bold enough to ask about that, though, and it'd be risky to incur his wrath without Hanako there to keep him in check. Tsuchigomori doesn't have any reason to like Nene yet, after all...still, I'd love to see more about how him and the Mysteries are doing if we can. :)

Also, she's only cameod so far so that might be the extent of it, but I would love for her to formally meet the new Shijima... I feel it'll only be a short scene, but as a school faculty member maybe she could help point Nene in the right direction? ^_^ Having Nene actually MEET her would be really feelsy, too, and it'd be fun to give Nene a reason to hesitate about doing away with this new timeline altogether.

So ultimately I guess I would say I'm leaning towards Nene being on her own for this one...mostly because there aren't a lot of good options to choose from. >_< And heck, Nene almost never does things alone! I think it's about time she had another solo adventure.

But above all I really just want to be surprised! And AidaIro is generally good about being surprising in a good way. :) Perhaps Nene could team up with someone we haven't even seen yet...? And I'm hoping we get some insight into the new lives of Team NTA and the other characters. ^_^ Considering (almost) everyone is alive rn I'm fully expecting to see Mama Minamoto and get kicked in the feels, lol. Aah!! So exciting!!!

I agree with you on omega Jason, actually. aside from him being omega is just funny for me (in a good way), and annoying for him, I also have sort of hcs about that. not specifically Jason, but you gave me a blanket permission for in depth response, so lol

when I usually talk about omegaverse, I prefer having omegas as bigger/taller ones, like, protecting pups and all that. also if we talk about physique I tend to believe that omegas gain fat easier (not as they're all on plump side, but like the protection thing again?), alphas gain muscles, while betas are somewhere in-between in a way.

So B is tall and clearly muscular, though he's an alpha, and Jason is also tall and muscular, but he feels bigger because of his body going like hey we had fucked up childhood, we need to save as much as possible, and he was annoyed about that. though ok, he was annoyed about everything, because he didn't present before dying, though he was aware he was either alpha or omega because of scents and all that

Jason did hope to be an alpha though, mostly because he grew up on the street and yes, omegas are discriminated, and mostly in bad ways, so him believing being alpha was more fitting and also gave him power, that was the thing. also like B was alpha, Alfred was alpha, pretty sure Diana was alpha as well, and I feel like making Jason's father an omega could also be factoring into that.

He also was very I'm still better than you about Dick being beta, again, till Talia, and he's probably on the betas are like children they don't have scent how can anyone /looks at Roy/ want them. it also makes him protective over betas just like it would over pups, so ye

The Book of Doors & Keys: A Manifestation Grimoire for 2024

Hey friends! I started working on a big art magic project recently.

I thrifted this children's board book full of fun little flaps awhile ago and my mind instantly knew I was going to do some art witchery with it. (Pictured below is an example page that's been lightly gessoed over.)

After turning over the concept and personal symbolism of doors in my mind for awhile, I hashed out this idea to create a sort of living vision board that I can add to throughout the new year (and continue to open doors when I need them). Btw, I mean living in the sense of the ability to change and build, not like a servitor or spirit vessel.

I know I want to heavily utilize imagery over words for these manifestations, for a few reasons. One, I already have a separate manifestation vessel that harbors written petitions (I call it my wishing well, I'll post about it if anyone is interested!) Two, I've been itching to dive into folkloric and personal symbolism to capture the essence of my desires in a more creative, aesthetic and visually stimulating way. And three, just look at those flap shapes! Does the flap fold up, down, left or right? Rounded or squared or another shape entirely? How big or how small is the flap, and how big or small is the manifestation that should go inside it? They're begging to be interpreted and played upon! Flaps on flaps, baby. Pockets and fold-outs and ephemera, oh my. Can you tell how much this excites me?

Anyway, here's what I came up with for a lovely lively cover. It's not exactly what I imagined when I begun, but I find it fitting nonetheless. The cover has been turned into a giant door, and the magic in opening it via the knob is surprisingly powerful. A door to many more doors, each one eagerly waiting for me to open it.

And here is the unfinished first page I began today.

There's not quite enough pages to dedicate one to each month, so I'll have to play around with the format, but the idea is that every door houses a manifestation, a feeling, a spell, an energy, a goal or result, etc. that I wish to attract and embody and integrate. The act of opening the doors and what lies inside them releases a bit of the spell's energy each time and can be used in conjunction with related spells/rituals. And of course energy can/will be added back into each door in ways that I haven't fully realized quite yet. Am I making sense? Hopefully.

More to come in the future, at least what I'm willing to share at those times. And with it, I'm sure, more rambling that will hopefully eventually flesh out a true understanding of this magic I'm creating.

That link aside, I have a transcript planned for Mansion of the Deathly Mirror just like I did with Chelmey's Casebook and London Holiday, but I don't even have the full first chapter completed yet, so I'll have to catch up whenever I have the time and materials to do so. I haven't had the time to work on it in many months, but don't worry, I haven't forgotten about it and I WILL make a better, FULL version of the translation, as soon as I can get to it (but right now I'm kinda supposed to be preparing for my PhD defence hahahahaha).

Now for some ramblings related to the above-linked Reddit post. Long story short: we have chances of securing the game. But for that to happen, we need to be patient, and we need to be silent. If you ever find footage of the game on youtube or elsewhere, no matter what you do, leave the player alone.

Let them upload at their pace and gather the crumbs as they fall off the table, because asking for them to let you eat the whole cake has never worked in the past. By that I mean: asking someone who owns the game "hey can I see your cool shiny thing asap plz plz plz" will result in that person blocking you, no longer posting any footage or content related to that cool shiny thing, and possibly disappearing off the face of the entire internet forever. I am neither joking, nor exaggerating.

I'm not talking that much about MotDM because we don't want to get too much attention drawn to it for the time being. But don't worry, if this game ever is found (and we have a whole team searching for it, we're just secretive on purpose -- for the reasons I mentioned here and for those that are explained in more detail in the Reddit post), we WILL make sure that the fandom knows about it. It's mostly just that right now, the only person we know who has the game and is somewhat willing to make a playthrough does not want any unwanted attention, and this person is not a friend of ours. They will stop uploading if people ask for them to upload faster, and they already threatened once to delete all their videos when someone asked them if they could "share the ROM." (No. No they won't. And even if they were willing to, we can't even make anything out of a ROM yet because of the hardware being stupidly complicated anyway.)

And nobody wants that.

I personally won't celebrate and heave a real breath of relief before footage of the full game from start to finish with as much content as possible is secured, which is why I don't talk about it a lot. I'm just paranoid that something might go wrong like it already has multiple times in the past hahaha

i actually thought a lot about val's smoke and all the stuff he uses, a bit of relaxation for charlie to forget all her troubles with redemption and such, so she can enjoy her time with him. she'd willingly come back for more, just one last time... and like all drugs its probably addictive sooo not his fault she got herself hooked and comes back more often than he calls her ^_^

as for vox, i think he'd enjoy sharing her with val, and he was probably the one who got vox onto that. it would stroke his ego, alastor doing all that in her hotel and she still comes to the vees instead. and ofc no one could pass an opportunity to have a piece of that charlussy. to me vox is all about control and being the best of the best - even though the sinners don't care much about charlie's status, it will have to mean something in the future. the sooner they can get to her the better. plus i can't just not include vox's weird alastor obsession, so he'd totally be like "admit im better than him" with his hypnosis (it's not necessary, she'd be outta her mind before he even used them). it would be a power trip for him, having a princess on her knees for him?? but ohhh im stuck the hypnosis... him and val do make the perfect pair with their powers.

velvette on the other hand? i don't think she'd be willing to. she'd like charlie for herself. and with her fashion thing i think she'd dress up charlie like her personal doll, her brand's fancy lingerie, full face of makeup just to ruin it by sitting on her face. by the time velvette gets her turn charlie would be already deep enough to just accept and enjoy it. vel wouldn't admit publicly to interacting with her though, after charlie's interview on the news. wouldn't wanna ruin her own image by associating with such a loser, so just some alone time. she's short but deadly and i can't imagine charlie topping with any of them, so vel is on top too. i'm a little lacking in the velvette/charlie headcanon department, which is criminal!!! i need to fill my head with more toxic yuri...

I feel like I should be developing Toshiro more, since he's the unit leader but I haven't come up with that much stuff about them compared to the others. BUT. I'm thinking about Seina. In the relationship thingy I mentioned that she works part-time at a café. I think it'd be funny if it's a café Ena and Akito go to somewhat regularly. then I'd have to change some stuff up though, because it wouldn't be just "met them once". Maybe I'd even make her friends with Ena. I did say I'll change a lot of stuff lol

Seina is very collected and pretty much knows how to deal with ppl, so I think she's pretty good at handling customers. It's still tiring for her though, more than you might expect, actually.

I think she deserves a break ngl (I say after being the one to make her need a break in the first place but uhm anyways)

I've also been thinking about their siblings... Seina and Toshiro both have siblings, actually. I haven't figured out their sibling dynamics as much yet. Like, I keep going back and forth on Seina's sibling especially, whether to make them older or younger. Because I have both options thought out, how they would have affected the relationship and in what way they contributed to how Seina acts. I know I'm gonna project with the sibling thing a lot, but uh. That's what OCs are for..? Kinda??? I guess?????

Fumi and Matsu are only children in their families, but I think with how they act with each other and their past connection, they act a little like siblings. I've also been thinking more about the period where Fumi wasn't as strong-willed and couldn't help or stand up for Matsu when he was bullied. Around that time, they had a bit of a falling out due to Fumi blaming herself too much and ending up isolating herself. They interact again for the first time since then already when the unit's story starts. Its awkward at first, and despite all this time working on being the best she could be to make sure nothing like that ever happens again, Fumi still blames themself and ends up avoiding Matsu at all costs. I can't say that he NEVER blamed her... of course, at first, back then, he felt hurt because no one would help, and when he needed his best friend more than ever, she ended up practically abandoning him. There is a little bit of that.. bitterness (??) left to this day, but overall, he doesn't really put them at fault. Fumi is extremely harsh on herself – that's actually something all of them have to a degree. Toshiro wanting to improve, be better at everything, be reliable because of his family problems, he wants to prove a certain person wrong. I now realize that this might sound kinda like the Shinonome dad situation, but it's still different. Seina blames herself terribly for accidentally hurting a dear friend in the past, she thinks of herself as unworthy of being forgiven and cared for, and tries her best caring for everyone around herself instead, devoting it so much time and effort that it leaves her exhausted and even puts a distance between her and the people she loves because she doesn't want to bother them with any of her personal struggles, even thoughts, she doesn't want to be a burden and upset them by having feelings. Fumi's case I already described here. With Matsu... I feel like it's less present in him, but it's still there. He tends to put a lot of pressure on himself about being good enough to be loved. Also because of stuff in the past, partially because of the bullying, partially because of how he as a child perceived Fumi distancing herself from him. He tries really hard to fit into the expectations others have of him, as well as be as independent as possible.

Of course, during the course of their story/ies I want to work through all of that. I think that coming to terms with things and starting to heal would take the longest for Seina. In part because she doesn't let anyone worry about herself as best she can.

ANYWAYS. Uhm. Stop the angst yapping, please, okay, thank you.

I like thinking through the sad and struggling parts of their characters, but I don't want to stop focusing on how they support each other and how much they care about each other. I also think I focused a little too much on their personalities and less so on the. Other necessary stuff... I've started thinking about their SEKAI. I think it should be something nostalgic in a way? With how much their stories seem to be dealing with the past so far, it'd make sense. I have a few ideas maybe, but I still need to flesh them out to even choose hehe

Sorry for mentally ill thoughts this evening but I've always wondered how this is going to end. To me, welcome home has been a story about changing. And because of a certain music artist's album and WHs popularity being around the same time, I can't let go of my interpretation of what change will look like at the end of this project. (1/?)

(2/?) I've always found what characters a fandom gets attached to QUICKLY to be a marker of what a story is going to do with these characters and what metatexually that is gonna mean for the story...

Let's start with the big one: Wally himself. THIS GUY HAS SO many interpretations! He is simultaneously the most dangerous and fascinating character out of all of them. To analyze him (and some of the neighbors I'll talk about) I used tarot cards, btw I'm @pretty-in-possible but this is my reblog alt

Wally was Judgement which is intresting because its definition includes

When The judgement is in the upright position, it represents the realization of one's calling, realistic thinking and gaining a deep understanding of life through self-examination.

(3/?) When reversed, it can represent refusal of self-examination and growth, self-doubt, regret, and blame. In my eyes, change and (what I think will happen to the puppets) transformation is only possible with that kind of thought. Which, coupled with your own analysis of wally and home spells as disaster. Whats particularly affecting MY brainworms is Barnaby. His card is the Magician: The Magician is an artisan and the ideas person.  It is a very action oriented card. It represents learning and using knowledge in creative and unorthodox ways, and seizing the day by displaying resourcefulness. Barnaby is definitely an open-minded person just with his behavior shown through just visuals.

(4/?) I am also invested in his pipe which I know just has bubbles in it, but it adds to this stoner read to his character that *I* see??? There is just something about him that tells me he will have the easiest time with this Existential crisis as to him (based of the tarot reading) this knowledge is incredibly freeing, cuz it would just mean there is More in the World to Discover. In my experience reading past life regression therapy testimonies, I've heard of how some people encounter this place in the afterlife people under hypnosis describe as a soul cleansing, a place where gem-colored rays of light shine through every inch of your soul, cleansing your spirit of the trauma it had experienced during your last lifetime. And I feel like Barnaby will experience those same feelings (NOT THE SAME PROCESS). (I might ramble more about this later, in ask box or in dms if thats okkkk)

my sincerest apologies for sitting so long on this one, i wanted to make sure i had time to really, like. sit down and Process it. and then shortly after i started writing this response i got food poisoning so. lol.

because of of how in-depth this ask gets, i wouldn't feel right neglecting any part of it, so i'm just gonna write down my thoughts bullet by bullet as i go through this. under the cut for convenience:

how welcome home is going to end .... obviously, i cannot offer anything conclusive right now (if i can offer anything at all) given how early we are, but i have always had the vague impression that whatever the ending of this story is, we as the audience may never be able to see all of it. it feels like so much has been given to us already. i assume we will be given much more, regardless of how willing to give or receive anyone involved is. we owe it to our neighbors to let them decide which parts to give and which to keep, at the end of the day. i think that's the best way i can phrase it. but as always, only time will tell.

I WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE TO KNOW THE NAME OF THIS ARTIST. i am Dreadfully unfamiliar with a lot of 70s musicians outside of the biggest names - my first thought was either connie converse or daniel johnston, but iirc most of converse's music was recorded in the 50s-60s and johnston only started recording music in the late 70s. i don't know if bruce haack was ever super popular back when he was actually making music.

the idea of which characters fandom gets attached to being indicative of what canon does with them...? i'm not so sure about this one, honestly. fandom can get attached to a stale piece of toast that shows up for a single scene if so desired (which, for the record, isn't a bad thing.) of course, i say that based off of my own experiences, but fan reception has never really been a Factor in speculation for me either way.

calling wally dangerous doesn't feel inaccurate, but i think it's more like. i do not think he is inherently dangerous but he absolutely has the Capacity to do dangerous things. i think it is interesting that despite this (or perhaps because of it?) he appears to be more vulnerable with us than he Ever was with the other neighbors? but a.) that may not be saying much and b.) it is Also largely rooted in speculation + the fact that home and the audience are currently the Only two entities wally has been seen interacting with directly, as opposed to his interactions/relationships with other neighbors that have so far only been briefly described by the WHRP or showcased in brief snippets of concept art.

on a more serious note: i'm a little worried i won't have much to say about barnaby that i haven't said already! i think it may be too early to discern the Specifics of his personality from website art/descriptions alone but i do get the distinct impression that he's meant to be a lot more down to earth than wally, which of course is an interesting contrast to the nature of wally's whole [gestures vaguely] Everything. from this, i think it is Reasonable to assume that he's also a lot better at rolling with the punches as well, although i never did consider the possibility that learning about The Bullshit would be liberating for him, in a sense - i don't know about it being a cleansing experience, unless you count the recontextualization of things that didn't previously make sense as a sort of cleansing in itself, in which case it could absolutely be that. something about the parallels to cosmic horror... the relationship between the Fear of change and the Catharsis of change...

oh, but wouldn't this also put him at odds with wally, who seems to be on the Exact Opposite End Of The Spectrum, even when they understand each other like no other? Much To Think About... very exciting potential for Conflict there.

i believe that any form of trauma is valid ((so long as ur honest about it of course, to yourself and those around you))! you don't necessarily have to be able to recall the events, our physical bodies or subconscious minds store trauma without us even noticing and it isn't any less valid if it happened when you were too young to even remember.

especially if they're actively impacting you, you should acknowledge them! if u want u can tell me more about them, i'm willing to listen if u feel like u need more confirmation. of course i'll be honest and i won't just say Yes to everything. but know that every individual experiences things differently! situations that were traumatic to you might not be to the next person, so pleasee be gentle with yourself when you're looking into these things :) keep an open mind and don't go directly to blaming yourself for mislabeling it (if it does happen).

I love overthinking these movies messages/stuff that they probably DIDN'T intent.

Like this girl I forgot the name of, she's very obviously so a parallel to Leon's self before and during the RC accident. And he knows that too, which is why I think he's so quiet; in my delirious mind, this guy is one, reliving RC through the airport outbreak and Claire is also there so, even more of a "haha trauma loop" and two, it's like he's watching himself go through it, by watching this girl go through it.

People shit on degeneration Leon a lot and I see why, he's very, very dry and then he gets a random love interest based out of... zero chemistry (honestly it would've been much nicer if they just stayed like, that? with that dynamic they had, the shadow of the other. The representation of the person the other was. Aka IM FUCKING ARO AND THIS SUCKS!)

But I think the dryness is... honestly very on character, lol. We are seeing him working. He is working with others, it isn't just him alone and only himself to worry, or he isn't with someone with someone he feels he can relax with. The situation is dire, and action needs to be taken immediately; there is no time for being a silly goofer like what he's known for. And while he does do mistakes (cough cough, not at least informing these guys who've Never dealt w BOWs before ... HOW TO DEAL W EM OR WHAT TO EXPECT cough cough), I think he's too in the zone/survival mode to be himself...and that's so him 😭

But anyways, those ramblings aside and the reason why I'm yapping about this again... in the end of this damn movie, the girl ends up in a very similar situation as... — The Moment — with her brother and she's not willing to let go even tho they're gonna fall together if she doesn't. Eventually, she does, but Curtis (i only remember his name bc i thought it was such a dumb name, whos fuckin named curtis bro LOL) grabs onto her, dragging her with him.

So, Leon ends up in the same situation, again, but now he knows what to do. He shoots Curtis, who then lets go of Woman TM. He successfully saves her even if they both fell together.

YES, you figured it out this is anti-a//eon propaganda. HAH! GOTCHA.

He saved himself, let her fall and willingly so... but he still falls because of her, because of himself, because of this "if you don't try to save a single person, you won't be able to save anyone else" being Carved into his morals that has tainted how he sees himself. He might try to let go as much as he wants, but in the end he's gonna keep falling, and falling and falling if he doesn't save himself from falling in the first place, if he doesn't drop this idea that he has to forever make up for all of the people who he couldn't save, who he CAN'T save.

And this is a very, VERY obvious fact, from everything of his but most people simplify it too much. He is Literally haunted by this, it is killing him from inside out. He based his whole morality and sense of self on being Able to save people, that's why he is who he is in the first place. To dedicate his whole being to saving people and preventing people be in the situation he was as a kid in the first place (which btw, I feel like his family being involved in crime in the first place is why he puts such a HEAVY moral expectation on himself, he NEEDS to make up for what they did wrong).

But, he will never fucking stop being in this vicious cycle if he doesn't fucking cut off this dumb idea that he's inherently a bad person because he can't save people, even tho he thinks he should be able. He trained this hard, this much, he spend his whole life to make sure he was Capable of preventing it... and yet, instead, he gets used to be a weapon, to be forced to be a weapon for the people who could end it all right here, right now and they won't, in fact they make it worse. They kill innocents even tho they could've been saved, at least some of them.

...SO, I know the person who wrote this movie probably didn't mean ALL that, and it's probably more along the lines of "Leon is finally capable of saving her, when he couldn't before". Which, yayyy woooo! you go dude, you did it. Now please get therapy bc that alone won't fix ya.

Hmmm... I’m not gonna tell everyone about the one we were chatting about because spoilers; the YOHE retcon is predictable so that’s boring, let’s see.

Arranged Marriage AU: I’ve talked about this one before, but basically Canon AU in which Dixing and Haixing are sovereign neighbours. ZYL has to marry HPS to uphold the peace (and hopefully get some trade clauses in Haixing’s favour). There’s tensions between the two nations, so it’s Captial I Important. Except ZYL is in love with Shen Wei, who he sees rarely and they’re not like, committed or anything, but he’d really like to be? And he doesn’t know SW=HPS so. Cue sadnees, but putting duty before self. Meanwhile, Shen Wei tries his damndest to just tell Zhao Yunlan, but keeps getting cockblocked interrupted just when he gets him alone.

YOHE Rescue via Twinswap: Kunlun wasn’t killed by the rebels because his allegiance to the Alliance wasn’t as obvious. Cue the chieftain trying to woo him to his side by inviting him to negotiations and offering things... to which KL brings a disguised Shen Wei, and then they run into Ye Zun and Operation: Swap the Twins starts.

Casefic in Which Shen Wei Gets Wrongfully Accused: not getting to this anytime soon, I don’t think (not planning it for the Bingo) Haixing’s police shows up and arrests Shen Wei for murder. They have evidence. They don’t know SW=HPS. Shen Wei plays along, knowing he is innocent and assuming that they will realize the same. Meanwhile, Zhao Yunlan & the SID work furiously to figure out the real culprit to exonerate Shen Wei.

19. Do you prefer canon-compliant, AUs, or something in-between?

Depends on the fandom! Generally, if it has fantasy vibes or is set in a historical era, I tend to prefer canon-adjacent stuff (like, not necessarily compliant? but fix-its, canon divergences, what ifs, that kinda thing). On the other hand, if the story is set in a contemporary setting, I utterly love the shit out of AUs (that are not just. modern AUs lmao. Give me the magic gdi!)

For Guardian, I am definitely still most drawn to canon and canon-adjacent stuff, but I've read several good AUs too (@sasamelons Sailor Moon AU or @bird-armadda's Mafia AU) Actually, mafia AUs are definitely a glaring exception for my "non modern AUs" thing, as are spies or assassins or similar stuff lmao. Probably because they don't feel quite usual life?

I've been lucky enough to receive several very nice comments over my stint as a fic writer 🥰 (including yours on Dark Star, I was re-reading it the other day and squealed again <3)

I keep all of my fave comments saved in my inbox and re-read them when I need a pick-me-up (or go re-read comments on a specific fic because I wanna add another fic in that series or remind myself why I loved writing that trope, etc.)

I appreciate all comments, but the ones that hit me the hardest (in the best way) are the ones that mention their favourite bits, point out a phrase they liked, and/or theorize about what is happening (plotwise or in a characters head). Which. I guess I like someone going meta? regardless if it's about the fic or the canon material that went into the premise. Yeah that tracks.

oh boy. shisui. where to start with this guy. listen I know he was on screen for all of 5 minutes but he contains multitudes inside my head and heart ok.

i'll start by listing off what we Do know about shisui!

in the databook he is described as honest and warmhearted (;-;) and I feel like that's a basic but pretty good assessment yeah. itachi himself told naruto that he felt shisui was a lot like him (you have shisui's soul) (lots to unpack there) HIS AGE IS UNCONFIRMED EVERYWHERE so we're only going off theories but I think its generally accepted that he's 3yrs older than itachi so! he graduated the academy at age 7, top of his class, and in that same year he uh. kinda sorta. let envy get the best of him and let his teammate die an avoidable death, unlocking his mangekyo. and he only revealed this to itachi when he was about to die lmao. he became a jonin at 11 and danzo ended his shit at around 16? the rest is fuzzy because kishi only created him cuz he realized he needed a way for itachi to unlock his own mangekyo sooo. that's where fanon jumps in

i think most of the fandom characterizes him as Itachi's silly little friend that follows him around and cracks jokes and that's fine and everything but! i do wanna point out that the only time we see him act in such a way is when he's around itachi and sasuke, two people he's very close with, and without any info on his mother and knowing that shisui's father was in poor health and likely passed while shisui was still pretty young, we could assume itachi and sasuke are the people he is closest to, period. so it's only natural that he would be comfortable enough to let his guard down around them like that, but the same cannot be said for random villagers or his fellow jonin etc. don't me wrong i think generally he's seen as a very kind and dependable shinobi, very loyal and always willing to lend a hand to those in need, but still yknow is competent and professional and Lethal. i mean. the guy had a flee on sight order in every enemy nation and earned a big name for himself while other kids his age were eating playdoh or making paper airplanes in class. he was a big deal, danzo himself refered to shisui as the strongest uchiha of his time (which i think is very fucking funny btw like fuck fugaku i guess jNFDJF) i am Getting Off Track my bad

ITS HARD TO PIN HIM DOWN TBH especially depending on what you consider canon or not. in the show he's fairly serious, in the ova he is a teddy bear, in the novel he's very Big Bro-like. in the novel anime fillers he is. my sweet baby angel he's very focused on mentoring itachi and its clear that shisui is very good at reading itachi from the start. across the board i wanna say he can feel the stress and stiffness radiating off itachi in waves and he just. wants to help. he knows exactly what buttons to push and how to rustle his feathers and how to set him at ease as well. oh no rox we're getting off track again fuck ITS HARD TO TALK ABT SHISUI AND NOT BRING UP ITACHI they were lichrally besties. okok.

i think the lighthearted cheeky interpretation of him is fine, I do think he's the type to make bad jokes in uncomfortable situations in an attempt to lighten the mood, but, yknow he tries to be sensitive about things either way. we're shown he's analytical and smart and fairly cautious. and he's uchiha, so he's got big big feelings tucked inside his little body. i imagine he carries a lot of grief inside that he doesn't let people see, his priority is helping others and he doesn't want anyone to fuss over him. Silly Characters That Are Profoundly Sad flavored apple juice. his teammate died because of his jealousy and his father fell ill after the war and shisui took on the responsibility of being the breadwinner of the family, which is A Lot for a young kid? in the novel he mentions that his father doesn't recognize him anymore, sounding like he's trying to fight off the sadness he feels and quickly changes the subject because he doesn't want to worry itachi. shisui takes on a lot of burdens and he would've kept taking on even more had danzo not stopped his plan to use kotoamatsukami on the clan and. brainwash them. (imagine walking around the uchiha compound knowing your clan is under an unbreakable genjutsu /you/ put them under) which is terribly fucked up but i think it shows what happens when kids are given these godlike powers? itachi and shisui were running out of time. they knew they needed to find a solution /fast/ to avoid civil war. we saw what happened with itachi and how far he went lol but shisui wasn't far behind him? it's hard to say if he would've gone along with the whole. slaughtering the clan thing. part of me wants to say he would've been naive enough to go along with it like itachi did. shisui himself said he was willing to do whatever it took to keep itachi and sasuke together as a family. maybe his idea of love was just as fucked up as itachi's? if things had turned out differently, would he have turned his sword against the clan himself? alleviating itachi of that burden, getting his hands dirty if it meant his two most important people were kept safe? he's shouldered guilt and grief before and survived, partly because he had itachi in his life, "spending time with you helped me pick myself up again, bit by bit. I'm really grateful to you,"

i don;t know if i see him being close to many people really? i think he almost doesn't trust himself enough for that.

imo he is an opportunist. he knows ppl perceive him as charming and trustworthy and he will use that to his advantage! not above flirting with people to try and get information out of them if the situation calls for it

overall i think shisui's someone that's capable of carrying a lot of darkness and keeping it hidden behind a smile. he's an uchiha, morals often go out the window when Love is involved. I JUST THINK EXPLORING A DARKER SIDE OF HIM WOULD B FUN

he was always super physically affectionate w itachi and I feel like. he might've grown up touch starved himself? constantly training and taking on missions, his father was unavailable and. in my head I imagine his mother dipped soon after his death so shisui was just. abandoned. deeply lonely but tried to not make it obvious. eventually itachi takes notice of this and starts inviting him over for dinner a lot. insists shisui spends the holidays at his house so he won't have to celebrate alone. oh that's not crack that's just sad huh

is it fucked up that in a modern high school au i always imagine him being the captain of the swim team LMAO. cracking open a sugar free redbull at 6:30am. stayed up til 2am playing cod the night before. no wait he wouldn't play cod unless he's playing against obito, PERSONALLY I think he'd be into the uncharted game series or assassins creed or hades

he orders the most annoying elaborate starbucks secret menu drinks and itachi is EMBARRASSED to be seen with him in public. he's gonna ask for 15 pumps of this and 20 shakes of that but at least he leaves a good tip.

i think a lot about him and obito being good friends in an au where yknow Everyone lives and nothing bad happens. "race u to the hokages office" "who can make itachi laugh first" "bet I can drink more sake than u can" etc generally just giving itachi a massive headache

he's extremely observant and quick to pick up on any little changes or mood shifts. he respects his elders but Does like to push his luck sometimes, only because he knows he can get away with it.

he'd indulge itachi's sweet tooth a lot, take him out for dango or ice cream when he can tell itachi's just brooding at home or has been nonstop training for hours. he also strikes me as a big gift giver? he's not one to really overthink it, if he sees smth he thinks someone might like or need he'll pick it up for them. i like hcing that itachi's necklace was a gift from shisui aha </3 gifts could be anything from jewelry to a new set of shuriken to an Air Fryer or a funny-looking stuffed frog plushie.

Anyways! Ahem! A little bit of infodump on my favorite bastard!

Oh yeah. CW for like. Serial murder. Cannibalism. Torture. Failed executions. Solitary confinement. Starvation. Excessive amounts of suffering. So, so much trauma. That kind of stuff! There's probably more that I might be forgetting.

So, Isaac! He's like one of my favorite types of fictional character: unhinged arrogant men who are incredibly broken. Isaac has like two main motivations: he wants power and control, and he doesn't want to be hurt. And these are also very influenced by incredibly excessive amounts of hubris and anger.

A little bit of backstory: Isaac is an immortal shapeshifter, and he was born in like 1600s France (or the fantasy equivalent depending on the universe I put him into). He's transgender, which very much sucked for him in 1600s France, because 1. he was not allowed to live as his true gender and 2. people seen as women were not treated very nicely in 1600s France. Isaac was going to be married off to someone he didn't choose- so he ran away instead. And almost immediately afterwards he got into a duel and almost died. A last-minute deal with a deity saved his life, because he received his immortality and shapeshifting powers. The cost was that everyone he knew forgot about him- so he just went to the woods and lived there for like 150 years. Eventually he returned to society tho. However during that period of time in the woods, Isaac was completely isolated, and that warped his worldview very much. He thinks that he's above like all humans because of his powers. Combined with deep-seated resentment at humanity because of the restricted life he once led, Isaac decides to take it out on people by like. Murdering them. And then cannibalizing them afterwards. He looks down on people so much and he's desperate for a feeling of power and control, and murder and cannibalism gives him heaps of that. And then after like 50 years of that he gets caught. And his captors attempt to execute him, but it doesn't work since he's immortal. And they try everything. Hanging, beheading, drowning, immolation, garroting, just about everything. Isaac was alive and conscious for every one of them. So yeah, trauma! And eventually they decided to immure him (lock him in a cell, brick up the wall, and leave him to die), because he'd have to die eventually, right? Well, he didn't, and he spent about 200 years in a cell. A dark cell in a basement, with nobody else inside. His first escape attempts were futile, and eventually he lost the strength to even try escaping. Isaac may be immortal, but he still needs food and water to function normally. So it was just torture for him. He suffered even more knowing that he was there because he was subdued. Isaac knew that nobody would ever come to save him. He feels ashamed that he ever wanted someone to save him. Eventually he escapes because the prison above gets demolished. It takes him a while, but after finding food and water and getting to rest, Isaac does fully recover physically. His powers ensure that he'll never even have a scar. He returns to killing people anyways, because Isaac will never learn. Being left to rot in a basement cell changes him quite a bit, ofc! He's incredibly angry that he was bought so low, and he takes it out extra on people by committing more murder. And he's incredibly afraid of people and how they could hurt him now, although he'll never admit it. Isaac tries to pretend nothing ever happened to him, but he still sleeps with the lights on, and he hides food in his clothing, he's always eating or drinking something, and he flinches when someone gets too close to him. He's gone through so much shit, especially cuz of his own actions, but his pride prevents him from doing any self reflection, so he will keep digging his own grave further and further and further. Isaac does not have the ability to swallow his pride and reconsider what path he's taking, or seek help, and he doesn't try to be a better person cuz he doesn't think he needs to be.

And yeah! That's the Isaac infodump. It's just about every piece of information about regular Isaac. Should I reveal this in my writing instead of a tumblr ask? Probably. Will I post this anyways? Absolutely.

GriffinxCodatorta (I've seen fanart of them before and got curious on your opinions) FaragondaxSaladin GriffinxValtor (even though I'm sure I know) (:

1. Griffin x Codatorta - ????? I have seen that as an idea, too but just… ????? That’s my brain’s reaction. XD I just don’t know how to react to it. Now a big part of that might be because [SPOILERS] Griffin x Valtor is my OTP. But I ship Griffin well enough with other characters so… I guess it’s not that. I wish we knew more about Codatorta so I could make up my mind. But I guess I’ll just have to work with no info at all… again… always! Anyway…

So from what we’ve seen (which is nothing, but I digress) Codatorta doesn’t seem to have a problem with dark magic which I feel is an important thing to consider. Although there was that sort of argument in the first season in the 4kids dub where he might have leaned towards the idea that Griffin knew the Trix were descendants of the Ancestral Witches and let them into Cloud Tower even despite the fact that that was forbidden. … Aaaaand shit, now I’m getting a story idea instead of analyzing.

Okay, real quick (it won’t be) going on a tangent here. That could be a starting point for a relationship between them. He realizes his mistake of even thinking that when he sees how much the whole thing with the Trix affected her and how guilty she felt and he goes out of his way to apologize to her. He says that his opinion got influenced by all those horrible things the Council is trying to blame on her (I’m going off of strictly what you told me about that because I still haven’t read the comics myself) and he’s sorry. And he wants to get to know her better since they’re colleagues and he doesn’t want to make the mistake of misjudging her again. And one thing leads to another and boom, you have a relationship! (Well, that wasn’t so long)

Back to analyzing. Again, we don’t know much about Codatorta and from what I’ve seen the writers couldn’t make up their mind about him either. On the one hand, you have that time when he defeated Saladin at that board game (and Saladin is supposed to be the “wise” one though I feel like the writers kinda forgot that at times, too, but I’m rambling again). And on the other, you have the fight against Kerborg where he was being obstinate and ridiculous by insisting he could handle Kerborg on his own when that obviously wasn’t the case. So I don’t know what to think about it tbh. I feel like he could be a good partner for her to play chess with and maybe someone she can discuss strategies with (though I feel like Faragonda is better suited for that) but we should probably leave it at that.

This got so out of control that it requires a cut. Join me below for even more thoughts:

2. Faragonda and Saladin - you managed to give me the two ships that I’m completely clueless as to how I feel about! XD Guess we’ll figure that out together! Bettter strap in cause it’s story time!

So I was completely shooketh when I read (on Wiki) that Saladin dated both Griffin and Faragonda. And that doesn’t make any sense because I knew that. And I remembered it (not like with Daphne’s existence which I had completely forgotten about tbh). But just… ?!?!?!?!?! My only reaction to that info is… I can’t unsee it. And I know I had an idea about that a few years back but it went down the drain since I wrote down exactly five sentences about it and everything else just got away from me. Which I’m totally okay with btw because it made no sense at all and my portrayal of Faragonda was… inaccurate to say the least (meaning terrible and completely OOC). Spoilers, he ended up with Griffin in that idea but now I’m just ????????? How? What do you mean? That he dated them both?!?!? WHAT?!?!?! So my brain can’t really comprehend that. Like, at all. So bear that in mind for the rest of this.

Now I feel like the different dubs disagree on what exactly happened (whether he was two-timing them or not) and I’m going with what I feel happened. I can’t really see him two-timing them so I think he first dated one (Griffin) and then the other (Faragonda)… which is still so weird considering the relationship they have in the present but whatever. Now I have some headcanons about what exactly happened there but it comes up in one of my fics and so I’m not going to spoil it.

Anyway, on the topic of the ship itself *sigh* I’m still not any closer to figuring out how I feel about it. I feel like they’re good just being friends and WHY DID THE WRITERS HAVE TO BRING THAT UP?! You know, I don’t really see it. (That whole block of text for me to reach that conclusion. Amazing!)

I feel like Saladin isn’t characterized at all for me to be able to draw conclusions about his relationships with anyone really. I have to make up an entire personality for him in order to get invested in his relationships with other characters. And I feel like that’s exactly the problem when it comes to why I’m so detached from him. Like, Griffin and Faragonda have a history together, they have banter and they play off of each other. And even if we didn’t see a lot of their dynamic, we still saw enough in order to be able to draw conclusions about it. We saw them actually react to one another and express opinions about each other and even do convergence (which, I have to admit, is one of my favorite things on the show as it speaks volumes about their friendship). And Saladin is sort of the third wheel in that friendship. There was some mild involvement on his part in season 1 where he apparently acted as a buffer between the two since they weren’t speaking to each other but even then it was just too little to actually tell you anything about his relationship with either one of them. I, personally, like to imagine that he is protective of both of them and cares equally about them and tried to subtly nudge them towards each other (hence why he’d seated them together at that celebration) so that they would finally make up (whatever happened between them because nobody tells you shit about that). Please excuse my rambling but I just had feelings about this so I hope you’ll indulge me on this one and overlook the fact that I veered completely off-topic.

3. Griffin x Valtor - now we’re talking! YES! That’s my ship! It’s my OTP! I will go down with it!

Just like you said, there’s a lot of story there and also a lot of conflict and those are my two favorite things to work with when it comes to writing relationships. So how deep do you want me to go because I’m prepared to take a dive! XD Let’s just start and I’ll stop when I get tired of typing.

So I have a lot of feelings about this so what should we start with? Let’s go with magic because I feel like that was the beginning for them.

They were obviously brought together by magic since they were partners first in that but while the show stops there, I have no such intentions. Since they were partners, I am guessing they did convergence (and it was suggested by the show the way they were drawn in that flashback in 3x10), but not only that. I think they went deeper than that to the point where their magic was so entangled that they had to relearn to do magic on their own after their separation. And that kind of bond can only be accomplished with great trust between them which already resonates in how devastating the fallout was. I feel like Valtor felt betrayed on all levels because she didn’t only leave him as a partner whose magic she knew as well as her own but as a lover whose soul she knew as well as her own. And that means rejection. She saw his darkest parts and left him because of that. And Valtor is totally not one to deal well with rejection. But I feel like the arrogance and anger only cover up how much she actually hurt him. Add on top of that Griffin fighting against him and possibly doing convergence with Faragonda and he’s ready to murder them both out of pure rage and jealousy. Why should Faragonda accept Griffin’s darkness, the darkness he knows is there since he’s seen her soul when Griffin didn’t accept his?

I feel like this also plays in his other insecurities. He was created by the Ancestral Witches to be a monster. He was never given the chance to be anything else. He was supposed to be the most powerful monster that would bring his mothers victory. And when it looked like someone was finally willing to give him the chance to be something else, to love and to be loved, she took back the hand she offered him, confirming that he was a demon undeserving of love and that only pushed him further into the mindset of gaining power and causing destruction. If it is a monster she can’t handle, then a monster he’ll give her.

And then we have Griffin’s PoV on things which is where it gets even more complicated. The choices in that relationship were only hers. Valtor had made his choices a long time ago. He only wanted power and her (which might seem like two things, but the way things were, it was really one thing with two faces. His power drew Griffin to him and she helped him gain more power so the two were inseparable in his mind). I don’t really know where I’m going with this so, please, bear with me! XD I feel like there was this judgment from Griffin towards herself because she was the one to find fault in their relationship. Valtor had settled for what they had, he wanted her which is more than she could have hoped for knowing him. Yet, she is the one that sees an issue, she is the one that is sinking their ship (I couldn’t resist!). And so there’s that additional guilt that she can’t shake off because she was forced to make the hard call. She feels bad enough for betraying him but she knows that was necessary. The universe wouldn’t have survived otherwise. But there was also the guilt of betraying her own heart and, going even further back, of allowing herself to fall in love with him. And yet, she can’t make herself regret that or stop loving him which just brings about more guilt and it’s a never-ending vicious circle. And Faragonda’s understanding and acceptance really doesn’t help (it does help knowing she has support but it only makes her feel worse for choosing to go against him. She abandoned him. How can she accept unconditional support when she wasn’t ready to give it?)

Then we have those seventeen years that are just loaded with quiet, insidious angst that hides deep down. Just imagine Griffin catching herself yearning to see his face again and then her brain turns on and she remembers that he would probably kill her slowly and painfully if he ever escaped from Omega. Or she gets lost into a what-if scenario and then just wants to die because it will hurt less than what she’s doing to herself. And the worst part is she can’t really tell any of that to Ediltrude and Zarathustra. She’s scared of disappointing them. And she’s scared of not disappointing them enough. And again, Faragonda’s acceptance helps as much as it frustrates her because she shouldn’t be having these thoughts. He hates her. He will destroy her. And the entire universe. Why is she still in love with him? (Sidenote: I feel like crying now.)

And on Valtor’s end… Oh, I’m so mad that Valtor’s side of the story wasn’t discussed on the show at all. Not even in regards to Griffin’s betrayal. I just wanted some acknowledgement of what he went through. He was frozen in a fucking block of ice for seventeen years while completely conscious, not to mention full of rage and hatred and desire for vengeance. Like, that shit is traumatic no matter who you are. And add into that that his element is the Dragon Fire. They should’ve said something about that but all we got was a throwaway line that just brushed it off because he’s a villain and, for god’s sake, how can you even think of sympathizing with him?! He’s EVIL, dammit! EVIL, I TELL YOU! And what also gets me is that no after effects were shown either. Like, he hasn’t moved for seventeen damn years! His muscles should be atrophied and moving should hurt like hell until he gets reaccustomed to the feeling. But nope! We don’t get any of that because he might just become sympathetic and likable.

And one last thing before I end this since it got out of control like two hours ago. I got a review on one of my fics saying that Valtor locking Griffin up in a cell wasn’t a good enough revenge which I’ve had thoughts on and now seems like a good moment to share since this ask derailed a long time ago and the point is lost somewhere in the blocks of text where no one will find it so what the hell, let’s just throw some more text on top, right? XD

Now as my first point, it’s a cartoon. They couldn’t really do much more than that. They can’t have him kill her or torture her and any more personalized revenge would’ve required more insight when it came to their backstory so that was out of the question! (can you feel the angry?!) But when you actually think about it, I do think that it made sense. She ran away and betrayed him because she wanted to protect the universe and that led to him being imprisoned. So imprisoning her is getting back at her directly but it’s also a kind of torture on its own. She is trapped and can’t do anything to help anyone which was exactly the reason why she betrayed him. In addition, he left her the only one in Cloud Tower not wearing his mark which was very deliberate. If he was doing all of that just for the power of the Cloud Tower residents so that he could use them as minions, it made sense to put her under his control, too, since she’s the headmistress and, therefore, the most powerful person there. But he didn’t. He left her in control of her own thoughts and actions, and conscious so that she could feel the horror of his revenge, knowing that she can’t even help those she was supposed to protect and guide. Hell, she can’t even protect herself. And that was the only reason he even took over Cloud Tower. After Griffin was rescued by Winx, he just got up and left, releasing the witches from his control since, if you really look at it well, he didn’t really need them for his plans. Only for his revenge against Griffin. So that was actually a good example of great but too subtle writing that the show pulls off plenty of times. And then you have the disastrous writing from my previous point. I don’t wanna be salty, but why is the writing so inconsistent?!

I’m just gonna leave it off here because my brain will stop working and I think this got long enough already. So yeah, in conclusion, I have a lot of feelings on the matter.
