After the team meeting and the media, you leave the stadium with your teammates to the bus. Spirits are high and the energy is buzzing between everyone. You’re laughing with your teammates and spy Max standing a little further off to the side in front of his car as he’s on his phone. You put your duffel bag into the compartment of the bus before excusing yourself. Your teammates boo and pout, asking where you were going and why you weren’t celebrating with them. You quickly explain you had a bet going on with an acquaintance. Your face flushes slightly when the girls see Max and start teasing and giving low whistles before you’re turning on your heel and heading to the Dutchman, gently flattening out your black dress.

“Hello there.”

Max glances up from his phone to study you before locking and pocketing his phone before he breaks into a small grin, “Hello. Congratulations on your win.”

“Thank you,” you give a small jokingly curtsy, “I had to make sure I was not picking up this bill.” You tease. “Ready to go? Hope I didn’t keep you waiting too long.”

“I am,” he steps aside as he opens the passenger door for you, “also no you didn’t keep me waiting long at all.” He offers a hand, which you take and helps you into his car before he closes the door gently behind you. You settle into your seat and start talking to Max to fill the silence. It’s surprisingly a lot easier to get the Dutchman talk when he’s asking you questions about hockey. How long have you been playing? Did you start as a kid? Why did you want to play hockey? What did you do on your off days? What was training like? What are practices like? Could he come and watch a practice?

You happily answered all the them on your way to the bar, the two of you going back and forth with a question and answer. You two end up in a booth in the corner at the bar with your drinks chatting and talking with laughter and banter between the two of you.

The night flies by and before you know it you’re back in Max’s hotel room. It’s not like it was the endgame but it was 2am and his hotel was closer than the team’s hotel. You texted your roommate before Max is passing you some of his clothes and you take a shower. You come out laughing because Max’s sweatpants are too big for you and you have to hold them up while waddling over to Max, who’s on his bed who is also laughing. He trades you the sweats for a pair of shorts and takes the sweatpants. You settle into the other side of the bed and the two of you continue to chat until somehow you both fall asleep.

Waking up the next morning, Max is already finishing getting dressed. He asks if you want to go back to your hotel and change before joining him for breakfast and you sleepily agree before you get out of bed. Somehow, you manage to direct Max to the hotel in your sleepy haze before the two of you are back in your room and you change. The two of you then go out to a little cafe for breakfast.

Then the mall.

Then lunch.

You joke that this feels more like a date.

Max states that maybe he wanted it to be a date.

You stare at him in a bit of a shock before smiling and accepting dinner as a date which Max just smirks slightly.

The date goes amazingly. Max picked some fancy restaurant but you didn’t care about that. You cared about being on a date with Max. How easy it was to talk to the Dutchman. How much of a nerd he was that the media never showed because he kept it tucked away. It was a different side to the driver that you were glad you got to see. 

After the date, you two went to get ice cream. You two finally exchange numbers before he drops you off at your hotel so you could pack for your flight. You don’t sleep, spending the night texting Max. 

You two schedule virtual dates in between your schedules. Your favorite is a virtual escape room that is Twilight themed. Max was so stressed trying to figure things out and you were laughing so hard that you almost pissed your pants but you two escaped with two minutes to spare. Max swore he would never do it again but he also needed to prove that he could do an escape room with more than five minutes to spare so it became your go to date and by the third, Max had been so frustrated with a puzzle (that he wanted to do on his own) that he blurted out ‘babe help me!’

You did but after you circled back to the comment, smiling and teasing him. You found his blush cute as he fumbled with his words before admitting since you two have been talking for so long and going on dates he wanted to ask you and had this whole thing planned but it just slipped out in the moment of his frustration. You laugh softly but smile and admit that you were going to ask him pretty soon if he didn’t and somehow him blurting that out felt somehow fitting. You two laugh but end the date on the biggest high ever.

You were dating Max fucking Verstappen.

Okay so! I went and listened to all the songs because I’m a whore for new music, especially good ones. Dust Flesh and Bones

I don’t listen to a ton of super long music because I do tend to get bored, but this song drew me in so entirely it was hard to move on from it.

As a Writer™️, this song brings words and images to brain that make it incredibly difficult not to want to sit down and write something to it 😭

Describing the song as an “apocalyptic sadness” truly takes the words out of my mouth—the music video, the album art, the dusty-sounding guitar, in what I can only imagine is a minor chord(?)… It makes me think of a movie opening: something western, probably, with a man laying in a creaky, uncomfortable block-of-a-bed with his cowboy hat covering his eyes, an overhead-camera circling around like a barely-working ceiling. You can just see the dust motes in the air, smell the alcohol on his breath… it’s grimy as shit, and I love it.

That’s the vibe of this song. To me, anyway. I love it. Perfect opener to a whole list of banger songs. Also, I like the idea of reading the title as “dust-flesh”, as in flesh that is dust-like in quality (because there’s no comma, to me it feels like it’s supposed to be one concept, which I think fits the overall vibe of the song as well).

Love Love Love

As someone who does things for love (love, love), this song is beyond perfect. I will take the time now to compliment how on-the-nail your recs are, by the way, because wtf? How are these songs all so perfectly attuned to the ask 😭 That is an insane archive to have and I commend you for it 🫡

I really like that this another guitar-heavy song. It feels personal because there’s just The Mountain Goats’ voice, the strumming of the guitar, and later into the song, those weird twinkling noises idk how to describe (forgive 💔).

This is a ‘sprawled out on your bed, staring at the ceiling at 3:34 a.m’ kinda music, and I that.

The Mechanic

This is the kind of music that changes you, so I completely understand how this made you reconsider your relationship (I hope things went well in that regard, by the way!). I love singer-songwriter (if that isn’t the genre pls smack me on the head) exactly for this kind of sound, this kind of music.

It’s so incredibly personal, especially to the artists themselves, but it still reaches deep for other people. This song is straight poetry, dude.

It’s conversation in the form of poetry, with its own little accompaniment. And that is precious in a way I find hard to put into words 🥹

The music video for this is just as precious as the song itself, btw, give it a watch if you haven’t already.

Also, the description says George Salazar worked on tick, tick… BOOM!, which quite literally changed my life (I’m not even speaking hyperbole, I hyper fixated on that fucking movie and soundtrack so hard it was all I watched/listened to for several weeks), so thank you for indirectly bringing this to my attention.

I love his voice, I love the instrumental, I love the emotion. The lyrics are fucking amazing, they hit you right in the gut, which I’m sure was their intended purpose dksnjfisin.

The whole latter half of this song feels like a hand ripping into your chest to personally tug on your heartstrings, which is a phenomenal feeling.

AAAH- DON'T I HAVE SOME! I really love melancholic songs and how they take me to other worlds.

First of all: Matt Elliott. Man, I can ramble about this man for hours. His music inspires me so much. I personally love his songs about failed relationships and fading dreams more but this album has an apocalyptic sadness that makes me shiver. If you don't get easily bored from long songs, try giving him a try.

Let's continue with a the Mountain Goats' song. One of his most popular song 'Love Love Love' is definitely worth listening to if you haven't yet. It makes you sigh deeply with every note.

First of all, the way you worded this suggests that you think I'm a thirty year old man with a nasty beard. But I am, in fact, a 15 year old girl. So the word "misogynistic" doesn't apply.

Second, yes. I do dislike the fact that she's a girl. Why? Because it's NOT👏HISTORICALLY👏ACCURATE👏. My brother recently preformed as specs in newsies Jr at the local middle school, and something that really bothered me was how feminist it was(I mean, the script said spot conlon and cruthie were supposed to be girls). The feminism isn't historically accurate. And yes, I realize that there's many things in newsies that aren't, but those are mostly to sensationalize it for the stage. Whereas imagine if you helped in a huge historical movement, and they make a stage production about it... Only to make a character based on you thr opposite gender. I personally would feel as though my grave was being spat on.

Another thing, she hardly even cared about the newsies. She was chasing a way to start her career, and happened to fall in love. But Denton cared about them ALL from the start. I said " sub-par" not because she was bad, but because she didn't have the experience under her belt that Denton did.

And I never said her blood made her evil. I was simply bringing that up just because. This post was just supposed to be my silly way off saying that I think Denton is the GOAT.

You also brought up that Denton paid the stuff because he could, and Katherine couldn't. But you can't convince me that Katherine would have it she could. I mean, the first time we meet her, literally the first interaction she has, she's being a jerk to the newsies.

I'm not saying that it isn't okay to be a Katherine fan, but what I AM saying it that it's also okay to be a Denton fan. And I'm also saying that it's okay to dislike a character just because, and that doesn't make me or anyone else a bad person. Sorry for ranting.

Can't sleep because I'm thinking about how our man Denton paid for lunch, paid all the legal fees for the newsies, and was just generally an awesome dude... And he did all of that just to get replaced by a sub-par lady reporter who happens to be related to the enemy.
