See I cant even dispute this because this is exactly the kind of thing I do in real life. Like I’ve definitely been the kind of person to just text a group chat like

“Hey so… guess who’s in the hospital :)”

And honestly it’s so funny to imagine Virgil doing that ajhsksgs

I love the concept of communicator group chats for the whole town in skybound because I like to think every time Virgil is flying and smacks into something, he has to let everyone know. It's not the in game death message, instead it's just Virgil chiming in randomly throughout the day in the huge gc like:

"Just smacked face first into a tree" "I think I got a concussion from trying to fly through Marcel's sanctuary glass" "Help I'm stuck in a tree again" "Guys you're never gonna believe what just happened. anyone know how to fix broken arms"

If there’s one thing about me that bleeds into lore, it’s my commitment to the bit.

And sometimes, the “bit” is just being in lore in the first place, and the commitment is waking up at 5am to do that minecraft lore.

Sometimes the cruellest joke is the one I play on myself.

I’m gonna talk about changing accents on Bound SMP real quick cause I think they’re neat

Firstly, I love how the longer Virgil spends away from Pietro the more their accent looses it’s “vaguely European”-ness and adopts a much more distinctive British sound (especially as he’s spending so much time with Rune and Ava rn). It’s just such a wonderful way of showing how the brothers are so out of sync right now. They don’t even speak in the same way anymore.

Secondly, Vast’s mimicry coming back to her. I know the first time it happened was on accident (oopsies I maybe southerned a bit too close to the sun there lol), but the fact that Heyhay took it and ran is wonderful. And honestly, the timing couldn’t be any better. It’s like, just as soon as Vast starts to realize that they don’t have to be a monster, that people will still love him for who she is in spite of all they’ve done, as soon as they start to feel safe (even if they are waiting for the other shoe to drop), a bit of their mask falls off. It makes me think about who Vast could’ve been outside of the Avicane, if he’d been given the chance to be something other than a soldier…

Friends, fellow Bound lovers, I have so many feelings.

We finally got to hear a bit of Gio and I... I just sobbed through that entire exchanged. Gio had been a part of the Avicane, we don't know for how long, but we know that it couldn't have been good. Yet still Gio is so gentle with baby Virgil. They coax him so softly and they speak with such wisdom and knowledge and such worry for both of the birdies in their care.

They don't excuse Pietro's behaviour, they explain it. They don't say that brothers just forgive and forget, they say that brothers explain and work on it and that one needs to think about where the other person is coming from.

Then the brothers talk and I just crack. They don't want anything else, but to keep the other safe. And I think that's what it all comes down to, safety.

The brothers want to be safe to never lose another member of their family. Virgil never wants to feel the need to touch a switchblade. Pietro wants to be safe for Virgil, to never hurt him anymore, like they have in the past.

I just, I'm just going to go cry about the bird brothers now.

Okay friends. Romans. Countrymen. I wish to yell about my bird and the most recent lore, so. Spoilers below the cut.

WE FINALLY GOT THERE! VIRWOOD NATION, HOW ARE WE FEELING?

God, I am so excited to finally have gotten there. Connor and I pretty much decided after the very first time we did lore together that we wanted Virwood to be a thing and it's finally here!

One thing that was very very important to me [actually obviously it was important to us both but I don't wanna talk for Connor, so I'll focus on my end of things for the time being] was to portray these birds' aro-ace-spec identity truthfully.

Elwood is demiromantic and that, mixed with the fact he is just not really used to the idea of being loved or even wanted, really was gonna impact any relationship they were gonna have. Before he got to Brightstep he didn’t ever really consider having friends or family a possibility, let alone having a partner, so when he figured out he liked Virgil that was really terrifying for them. His experience with love, love of any kind, was limited to reading about it, and he didn’t even plan on telling Virgil. I think his plan probably was to just bury it for the time being - and then Virgil was presumed dead for a week. Not that Elwood nessecarily believed that, but they also didn’t not believe it. He simply clung onto inaccceptance - if he didn’t accept the option of Virgil being gone, then maybe it wasn’t real.

And then Virgil showed back up in the library, and confided in Elwood about the void sickness, and suddenly a mess of feelings - love and fear and worry - bubbled over and even though Elwood didn’t mean to confess, he indirectly did by blurting out the one solid truth he came to realize over the previous week sitting in Virgil's office, not talking to anybody, just alone with their own thoughts. He would not accept a world that Virgil was not in.

I didn’t want Elwood confessing to be like... him just saying "I love you" or "I'm in love with you" or "I like you" - those are things he feels, but he doesn't know how to articulate how he feels a lot of the time. This is heavily based on how my experience with the combination of being autistic and demiromantic impacts how I process and experience emotions. Sometimes I know the word for an emotion, but it's not enough. One word does not even get close to describing how emotions feel. And I wanted to express that with Elwood. He does love Virgil, but to them I don't think the word has the same weight as saying that Virgil is kind and a good person that they refuse to live without. Describing how an emotion feels, what he thinks, how he experiences being around Virgil is more impactful to him than just saying one small four-letter-word.

I loved seeing everybody's reactions to the lore and I am sending you all hearts and I am so excited to get to keep telling Elwood's story and to create some depiction of aroacespec relationships that I can confidently say feel truthful to how I experience those identities.
