i think one of my favorite things about p4 is how the game really makes you feel yu's feelings through narration, dialogue options and just. general atmosphere. like,,, he's a silent protagonist but his personality still comes through.

i feel like the key instances of this are during november and december. all things considered yu doesn't seem too upset about everything at first? but then you head home and oughhhhhh. i don't think p4's overworld music is meant to be diegetic, but an optimistic song like signs of love being absent in exchange for a melancholy one like alone still shows yu's feelings. he's not coping with everything very well - i think he's probably just trying to keep strong for his friends. he's the leader, after all.

also the dialogue for the FRIDGE of all things supports this i feel like:

he's really going through it. someone give him therapy or something.

i don't have screenshots for this next point because i kept forgetting but in golden, for the week before february's exams, the narration reminding you of this says how it's the last test you're going to be taking in inaba. yu doesn't want to leave; golden's additional winter content continually shows this.

also, as i said before, i don't think the overworld music in p4 is meant to be diegetic, but it does still show yu's feelings pretty well if you look at the lyrics. i think SNOWFLAKES is the most obvious example, being about yu's feelings about his friends and inaba, and how he doesn't want to leave (as i said. golden's winter content continually shows this). just to go over that real quick:

A cold wind blows away

The laughter from this treasured place

But in our memories it stays

the treasured place in question is presumably inaba and maybe more specifically the junes food court. either way this line is about how yu's time in inaba with his friends is coming to a close but they'll always remember it.

This is where we say farewell

And the wind, it feels a little colder now

Here, times run out like a spell

But laughter's our vow

again, yu has to leave inaba soon. but this verse seems to be referring to how, even if they're not together physically, the investigation team'll still stay friends.

This is where we saw it through

Thick and thin, this friendship, it was built to last

this part of the next verse backs that up. i can't really tell what the last two lines are meant to be saying honestly? but yea, SNOWFLAKES is about yu's feelings about inaba and the investigation team. he loves his friends and doesn't wanna leave.
