ok. ok. in my head i have located at least two overarching "personality types" that come into play when im creating self-inserts. sometimes they intermingle/mix but it depends on the setting which tends to domineer the character's overall personality. heres the notes on both.
type 1: so basically, im baby
really quiet and nervous for no discernable reason (usually anxiety or trauma)
really nice to anyone who doesnt knowledgeably want to cause harm to anyone
tries to educate rather than berate or argue
avoids conflict like the plague
easily manipulated
lonely all the time but afraid to draw attention to themself
scared of adults/teachers/authority figures/others’ parents and family
the “cute” kind of sad where they get emotional super easily
puts their needs last but in a really quiet way, rarely verbalizes discomfort
kind of self-deprecating but in a low-key way
making them mad is actually kind of scary, they threaten to actively kill or hurt others who hurt people they care about
friends/friendly with one or more main character
when applicable, more visibly autistic (stimming, infodumping, etc.) or mentions things in passing more often and is often shy about it
shy about sharing interests for fear of infodumping and/or boring others by repeating info they may already know or have heard (alternatively: afraid of talking too much and being annoying)
has a lot of trouble asking for help
struggles to take control in conversation
freaks out over mistakes, no matter how small
has breakdowns/meltdowns and blames themselves for everything bad because they think they “deserve” the blame
tends to bottle everything up under a false “okay” cover until it gets too much and they kind of explode (NOT a good combo when they have powers!)
type 2: fuck you, im goblin
also quiet, but more in a pissed off sort of way?
“don’t talk to me” sort of attitude
gets hostile at the drop of a hat and will not hesitate to argue
incredibly violent, usually depicted with a weapon or something similar
has a hard time articulating emotions through anything other than frustration and outright anger
doesnt really give a shit about authority, but is lowkey terrified of them
absolutely scared shitless of their family/parents/home life
has a very strong sense of right and wrong/set of morals
will literally kill an abuser, if not already having done so. usually not their abuser but anyone else’s is fair game
not easy to manipulate, can recognize and stand their ground against most manipulation tactics
sad, but in a way that they dont show it, because being visibly sad is vulnerability, and they dont like being vulnerable
“friendly”, but only toward certain people; tends to shut out people more often than they let them in
puts their needs last very visibly and will offer up their lives in perilous situations, “because it’s what i can give”
gets angry easily and is very vocal about it
when applicable, they arent open about disability; they think it makes them stupid/worthless/vulnerable and tend to hide it so they feel safer.
