Happy Valentine’s Day 💕
Thank you for your lovely writing and kind comments that you share with us! I’m so very much in love with the way you write Zuri and Farah.
If you feel like answering (no pressure): Are there any romantic gestures that your OC loves? What about romantic gestures that your OC hates?
Wishing you a lovely day filled with lots of love!
Hello hello! This is so sweet, thank you so much anon🥹❤️ Zuri and Farah's dynamic has been so interesting to explore, and I've just scratched the surface in my writing for them. I have a few fics for them planned (although I won't be able to get them out just yet), hopefully you'll enjoy those too.
And I don't mind answering at all!
Valentine's Day has always been a little bit complicated for Zuri; the inner conflict she has between the part of her that craves intimacy and the part of her who runs away from it because she doesn't think she can truly have it (or that she's even deserving of it anymore), makes it difficult for anyone who has shown an interest in her to know her. So she's been on the receiving end of a variety of romantic gestures, a lot of them being a miss.
Despite being a plant lady, she doesn't like getting flowers - specifically bouquets. They don't get to live all that long, so having a flower that will inevitably wilt within a month is not appealing to her. But if she gets a little potted plant, especially one the person planted and grew themselves, she'll love it. No matter what stage of growth it's in.
For the sake of not making this post too long:
She doesn't like gestures that could be done with just anyone. The type of stuff with little to no thought behind it + things that make it obvious that they don't know her (it makes her feel sad and guilty).
She doesn't like public gestures because they feel too performative (which is a little ironic coming from her).
The thing is, a lot of the gestures she likes and even loves, don't have to all that extravagant (even though she does enjoy those too lol). So long as there are clear intentions and thought behind the gesture, she'll love it.
For the more extravagant stuff, it would be things like:
Tickets to a broadway show she likes, with both of them dressing to the nines.
Going to a restaurant with live music (and dressing to the nines again lol, she really likes dressing up with her partner).
A weekend getaway to a resort or cabin, especially one that's closer to nature.
For the more chill stuff, it would be things like:
Decorating a place that holds memories for both parties - bonus points if there's food prepared by the person, a picnic or dinner would be great (said place could even be the bedroom lol).
Going out to do an activity both parties enjoy, especially if they're revisiting a place they went to before or a place similar to it.
Gifts with sentimental value; a card with a sweet and specific message in it, handmade jewellery, photos of the two of them in a frame or in a scrapbook (a scrapbook would make her tear up), anything that could be a callback to a memory they share.
The common thread in most of these is them spending time together. Zuri wants to feel wanted and loves quality time, so someone actively choosing to spend the day with her rather than being around her because of circumstances would mean so much to her. She isn't used to her company being sought after beyond the surface level fun she brings to the table, so anything that shows her that it's deeper than that makes her feel all fuzzy inside.
Since you mentioned Zuri and Farah, here are a couple things they would do on Valentine's Day:
Both of them whipping up some snacks and a meal in the kitchen before having a movie night in Farah’s room (that is in fact a reference to that movie night scene in book 3).
Farah would absolutely draw Zuri, and when she shows it to her, she will gush and swoon over it for days. Zuri would keep any and every drawing Farah gives her, and years later she'll have them made into an art book with little sticky notes on how each one makes her feel (and how talented her baby is).
Zuri would decorate the garden outside the warehouse à la The Book Of Life and set up a picnic for them there. She might recreate that whole scene if it turns out to be a movie Farah likes, serenading her with a ukelele in hand - the theatre kid in her can't not do that. It's both romantic and cheesy as hell, and I think Farah would love that.
I have so many more ideas, but my answer is sk much longer than I though it would be I'm so sorry💀😭
#i think because i didn’t get the chance to write the zuri/farah fic i mentioned yesterday i just spewed my thought about them now💀#thanks again so much anon! this was so fun to answer#twc#the wayhaven chronicles#twc detective#f hauville#farah hauville#oc: zuri jackson#asks#farah hauville x detective
