obscure bands and where to listen to them, part 2
Follow-up to [this post].
Here I'll go over five artists whose polls got an extremely low amount of "yes" votes, plug where you can listen to them, etc.
If you're a fan of one of these artists and I got anything wrong or you have anything to add, please send an ask!
Long post ahead.
-
PALMSY
Genres: Indie Pop, Jangle Pop, Bedroom Pop 10 out of 2,375 voters have listened to them. (0.4%)
Self-described as such: "Bedroom songs from the Netherlands. Feel-good sunny energy, jangly indie pop and the breezy energy of pop-punk." Their website (in Dutch) says they're influenced by artists such as Bombay Bicycle Club, Darwin Deez, Little Comets, and The Wombats. Released one EP in 2017 and seems to have been inactive since, but two members went on to form the band Banji.

Clay J Gladstone
Genres: Pop Punk, Punk Rock 12 out of 2,495 voters have listened to them. (0.5%)
Australian. "Emo punk outfit Clay J Gladstone was formed in 2020, comprised of current and former members of powerhouses Resist the Thought, Caulfield, and Buried in Verona." Released one album and some singles in 2021-2022, but they're still active and playing shows! Apparently one of their guitarists got his equipment stolen recently but they were able to fundraise enough money to replace it so yay :)

Radiation 4
Genres: Avant-Garde Metal, Mathcore 10 out of 2,314 voters have listened to them. (0.4%)
Los Angeles-based experimental metal band that dressed in lab coats and glasses for their live performances. Their MySpace listed their influences as "Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Tom Waits, Mr Bungle, Botch..the list goes on." (IMO, the vocals especially are VERY Mike Patton-ish.) Released an EP in 2001 and an album in 2003, then went on hiatus in 2007 (though the vocalist uploaded some of their stuff to Bandcamp in 2022-2023?) Here's a fairly recent interview with the vocalist.

Bandcamp Here are unofficial YouTube uploads of Radiation 4 (2001 EP) and Wonderland (2003 album), which aren't on the Bandcamp, or anywhere else that I can find. ...Also, I finally found a copy of the album art for Wonderland that isn't JPEG'd into oblivion.
-
LightGuides
Genres: Pop Rock, Indie Rock, Math Rock 4 out of 2,158 voters have listened to them. (0.2%)
Self-proclaimed "Glaswegian pop-punk samba legends" (they aren't really samba though...) previously known as We Hung Your Leader. According to their old website, their influences included Jimmy Eat World, Alexisonfire, Brand New, and The Get Up Kids. Released two "mini-albums" between 2010 and 2011, and ceased posting on social media around 2017. Here's an interview (from shortly before the release of their second album) if you want to know more!

Tribraco
Genres: Jazz-Rock, Avant-Prog, Progressive Rock 12 out of 2,534 voters have listened to them. (0.5%)
Italian instrumental jazz-rock band, formed in Rome in 2004 initially as a trio but then grew to a quartet. Their MySpace listed such influences as John Zorn, Frank Zappa, Igor Stravinsky, and Fred Frith. Released two albums, one in 2008 and one in 2010. (...there's not much else I could find about them!)

Due to your recent post:
🖊+ Lacrimosa Ambrose (what a woman <3)
P.S.: Have a nice day! :3
SDFGHJKLJHGFDFGHJKKJH I love you I love you I love you and you ALSO have a nice day!!! <333
HOOOOOOOO BOY I'M GONNA DUMP A L O T OF STUFF :D I'M GONNA GET LENGTHY BUT HHHHHHHH PLEASE BARE WITH ME
DISCLAIMER: Lackadaisy belongs to @lackadaisycats and it is a beautiful animation and web comic, I HIGHLY recommend.
Below The Surface is my 2023 Lackadaisy fic. It will be linked below <3
Lacrimosa Ambrose - The Siren:
FIRST IDEAS:
At first, I wanted to make a villain for Lackadaisy. I was doing this purely for the sake of my Murder Mystery fic Below the Surface (posted here and currently being worked on here!) and I wanted someone who was a REALLY big threat. And so, I created a new mafia-like group: The Rose Brigade. But who would be the leader? I wanted a powerful---and also a plus sized woman in official art I'm making!---who is no-nonsense and irredeemable.
I wanted to originally make her a Bombay cat, but as I looked through more cat options, I decided to settle on a Chartreux cat! They're so pretty!!! Below is an image I wanted to reference, yet alter at the same time.
Her voice claim is very much Lady Dimitrescu from Resident Evil. She has that badass, sultry tone to her that makes me fold over for this queen that can very much kill me.
She was originally going to be redeemed, but I decided "hell no she deserves a whole villain arc that DOESN'T give her a chance to turn good" and I am very much happy with that outcome.
I didn't know WHAT she would be job-wise? I originally wanted to make her an actor, though when I designed and wrote for Silas Tueuse (another Lacka-OC whom I love dearly), I wanted to mix things up, and wanted diversity. So Miss Jazz-Singing-Sensation was born! Her color palette and drawing her dress KILLED ME.
Choosing her name wise, I wanted to allude to Tracy's work, and allude to a villain. So when I was scrolling through the website, I noticed the Lacrimosa poem, and BOOM. Her name was chosen. Last name means 'immortal' in Greek, plus it's a play on the dish ambrosia. :)
FACTS/HEADCANONS:
She owns a jazz lounge, and is a famous jazz singer! The name is TBD, but she gets a LOT of traction there.
While she was from Boston, Massachusetts, she is Latin! She often refers to people as mei deliciae (translated to my darling), and one of her favorite foods is ceviche! It consists of either shrimp or fish, as well as lime, lemon, onion, chili pepper, and cilantro! From my understanding of it, you can dip chips into it and eat it like that. Sometimes you can even avocado in it, if that's your fancy! Below is a photo example.
She is a horrible driver. Horrible. Picture Cruella De Vil but drunk. Sooo yeah, 100x worse.
She has a daughter, but she's distant from her, and she rarely---if never---checks in on her.
She is incredibly narcissistic, but does NOT have Narcissistic Personality Disorder: she does have empathy, though it's hard to tell if she's being genuine or not.
Prefers suits over dresses, but will wear dresses for performances to keep up her professional image. For casual meetings, she wears a dark indigo and dark blue suit with a fedora and a rose pin on her jacket lapel. The outfit accentuates her curves nicely, and I will draw her more in a suit in the future <3
She has a Colt M1911 Revolver that her husband gifted her before he passed. She uses it constantly.
ROLE/PURPOSE/OTHER STUFF!:
She's the main antagonist, and she is the leader of the Rose Brigade. She tries to hide behind a sweet, motherly facade, but she is emotionally and physically abusive to certain people. She is also a bit overconfident in certain abilities.
She had ties with Atlas May, though so far I have yet to confirm or deny if she killed him. So with her relation to Atlas, she slithered her way into trying to manipulate Mordecai, seemingly present as a mother figure towards him while in St. Louis. Ivy gushes over Lacrimosa's singing skills and performances, so her meeting her in person, she's just all giggly. Nonetheless, Lacrimosa is a softie for praise, and can't help but feel slightly more appreciated.
Lacrimosa might be manipulative and a full blown awful person, but she has been taught common courtesy. She knows to be respectful, she believes everyone is equal, and will not discriminate against those who are in the LGBTQ community. However, this does NOT excuse her awful behavior. She is MEANT to be an awful person.
She will ALSO absolutely break anyone who tries to tamper with her. She CAN and WILL call you out on your bullshit.
Her song (if it were 2023) would be Medusa by Kaia Jette!
HHHHHH THIS WAS SO MUCH???? AND THAT'S NOT EVEN IT????? FGHJKHGFDXFGHJ I might add on later
#Below the Surface - Lacka-Fic#lacrimosa ambrose#lackadaisy oc#lackadaisy lacrimosa#original character#I love her <3#she can kill me but I love her <3#ask#answered ask#I LOVE YOU SM BTW TYSM FOR ASKIGN THIS!!!! :DDDD#I also wanted to do more research so THAT's why it took a while GHJKHGVHGFHJGCVGH#thanks for the ask <3#lackadaisy

Stan BH Tan-Tangbau collaborated with saxophonist Quyền Vӑn Minh to write the first major history of jazz in Vietnam. [...] Tan-Tangbau contributes the rich historical context [...] to understand the unlikely journey of jazz in Vietnam during and after the Second Indochina War (known in the United States as the Vietnam War). The book is a significant contribution to the growing historiography on jazz in Asia, joining groundbreaking works including E. David Atkins’s Blue Nippon: Authenticating Jazz in Japan (2001), [and] Faresh Fernandes’s Taj Mahal Fox Trot: The Story of Bombay’s Jazz Age (2016) [...].
[The book] is a unique [...] accomplishment [...]. [I]t contains myriad firsthand accounts penned by Minh himself, as Vietnam’s founding figure in jazz. Jazz as cultural catalyst is front and center in a history that is deftly contextualized by a world that was very much in transition during the latter half of the twentieth century. Tan-Tangbau builds a compelling narrative that tethers the story to legacies of colonialism, postcolonialism and decolonization [...]. Tan-Tangbau offers a noncanonical history of jazz and how it reached and influenced Vietnam. [...] Minh tells his story of huddling around a radio as a teenager, fascinated by the music he heard on an American radio broadcast: “I did not even know what language it was. I only focused on the music” (p. 69). [...]
Tan-Tangbau proceeds to build a case for the influence of jazz from its closest allies rather than from the United States. The author states, “Jazz was caught in the ideological struggle [...].” Thus, he argues that many of the roots of Vietnamese jazz may be traced to Poland’s pioneer Krzysztof Komeda Trzciński, but also to Hungary, Romania, Czechoslovakia, and elsewhere. However, he also detects indirect American influence in the global tours of the 1950s such as Dizzy Gillespie in the Middle East, Benny Goodman in Southeast Asia and later in the Soviet Union, Dave Brubeck in East Germany and Poland, and Duke Ellington in the Soviet Union, among others.
Like the radio waves where the story began, these myriad ephemeral tracings build a picture of a global jazz history [...] [not] told in this way previously. The second half of the book then brings the emergence of jazz as an organic Vietnamese art form into full view. The book charts the development of the music, the fusing of the jazz tradition with Vietnamese aesthetics in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and its inclusion in the curriculum of the country’s national conservatory [...].

hello! would love to know what records you have in your collection.
Hey! My collection is pretty big now so I won’t be able to cover it entirely but as a general idea: the first record I bought was a 78 rpm of Dhoop Chhaon (1935). I have a handful of Bollywood soundtracks like Umrao Jaan, Guide, Anarkali, Mahal (1949), Bombai ka Babu, Dulhan Ek Raat Ki, and Meri Kahani (Ajit Singh) among others. I have a compilation of Ghalib ghazals by various singers, an Amanat Ali Khan compilation, Shankar Jaikishan’s Raga Jazz Style album, and a Ravi Shankar album. Non-Desi wise I have J Balvin, The xx, Frank Sinatra, The Weeknd, and Arctic Monkeys among others.

Hi hello it is time for the first of the lore dumps! Decided to do this as a lil worldbuilding wednesday series lol. So without further ado, it's time to talk about some Apocalypse Surivival :D
Have a cut to spare y’all’s dashes, and also because mild content warnings for mentions of human experimentation and all the fun jazz that comes with an apocalypse
(also hi @smol-feralgremlin since you wanted to be tagged <3)
Just so you know what you’re getting into, none of the Apocalypse Survival characters have names yet. I’m thriving :P
Anyhoot, time for premise/basic worldbuilding and then on into the detailed rambling
Apocalypse Survival is a dual timeline story, tentatively titled something along the lines of 6 Days because each timeline covers 6 days. It’s a vaguely futuristic setting where the government has been experimenting on children and bonding them to animals, causing both to develop superpowers. Both timelines follow [Squirrel], a girl bonded with a fox squirrel. The first timeline takes place pre-apocalypse, and the second is 6 years after the apocalypse happens.
There’s a couple other child experiment pairs who play some part in the story:
[Cobra], bonded with a Mozambique spitting cobra, who can breathe/spit poison
[Penguin], bonded with a Magellanic penguin, who can control ice
[Possum], bonded with a Virginia opossum, who causes things around them to decay (this one’s for Andi lol)
[Cat], bonded with a Bombay cat, who can control shadows
[Fox], bonded with a red fox, who can control fire
[Duck], bonded with a red-billed teal, who can control air
and my favorite boi, [Bear], who’s bonded with a grizzly bear and can manipulate earth
(and some real quick distinctions, i’mma add a -h if I’m talking about the human and a -a for the animal. so Cat-h is the human, Cat-a is the kitty)
Now if you’re looking at this and betting money on these kids being the cause of the apocalypse, congrats, you’d be right. Specifically, Fox and Duck are the catalysts of the apocalypse in a way.
Due to the people in charge of these kids having terminal cases of “not giving a shit”, Fox-h and Duck-a end up dying, which hella traumatizes their partners and eventually causes them to “go feral”. In this context, that means losing control of their powers and going hellbent on revenge against those responsible for their partners’ deaths (aka the scientists/government peeps in charge of them). And once the still-living partner goes feral, there’s no way to reverse it. Fox-a goes feral basically right away, and Duck-h goes feral very publicly, with a lot of collateral damage.
After that, due to the large amount of public, negative scrutiny they’re under, the director decides to shut down the project and dispose of (read: kill) the experiments. However, due to a miscommunication or three down the line, the people carrying out the “disposals” don’t know about the possibility of the kids or animals going feral.
So, several superpowered humans and animals going feral at nearly the exact same time + giving absolutely no fucks about the collateral damage they’re causing = apocalypse scenario *jazz hands*
Among the key players 6 years on when the second timeline starts are Cobra-h, Penguin-h, Possum-a, Cat-a, and Bear-h.
And then I got attached to Bear-h and got sad thinking about how he was doomed by the narrative so I made a fluffy AU where they all survive so! time for some rapid-fire fun facts taken from both canon and the fluffy AU, mostly centering around Squirrel-h and Bear-h bc I love them (all names from here on out referring to the humans unless otherwise stated bc I’m lazy lol)
There’s a couple of characters who got replaced/shoved into way minor roles because of pacing/dealing with their powers/arbitrary patterns that only I care about lol. But here they are!
[Hummingbird]: the initial fifth feral experiment. She got yeeted due to pacing, nearly brought back, then yeeted again bc of the arbitrary patterns lol. She has the power to create illusions, and she will get mentioned at the beginning of the apocalypse
[Otter] never went feral, and appears in a potential epilogue. She was going to have a slightly bigger role, but that got scrapped due to the arbitrary patterns. She’s bonded with a sea otter, and they can create pocket dimensions.
[Wolf] was the initial character created when I decided to add back the fifth feral experiment but not Hummingbird bc of patterns, but he ultimately got replaced by Cat because I couldn’t figure out a good way to deal with his powers. He’s a northwestern wolf, and he can yell real loud lol. Like Hummingbird, he’ll get mentioned at the beginning of the apocalypse
Speaking of Otter, a fact that’ll definitely never make it into the story proper: they avoided the “disposals” by putting Otter-h in a pocket dimension, while Otter-a escaped the labs through the vents
And the potential epilogue: Squirrel runs into Otter, says something like “Oh I like your skirt” Otter: “Thanks! And the best part is--” *pulls Otter-a out of a pocket dimension* “--it has pockets!!”
Squirrel has vitiligo, and Cobra has patches of hyperpigmentation
Squirrel is maybe 5′2″ as an adult and very wiry and thin. Which means next to Bear she looks absolutely tiny because Bear is well over 6′ and built like a tank lol
Along those lines, the only oversized clothing Squirrel likes to wear is Bear’s hoodies. In the summer this leads to situations like Some person: Are you even wearing pants? Squirrel: *lifts the hoodie until you can see her shorts* Person: ........ alright I guess
Since he’s bonded with a grizzly, Bear does hibernate. Since he’s still human though, he’ll periodically wake up through the winter to eat and take care of himself. Squirrel is the only person allowed to wake him up for anything other than food.
Squirrel is allergic to pineapples. She only figures this out by eating one and nearly dying.
Bear’s favorite food is blueberries. He will absolutely inhale everything blueberry in the vicinity if given the chance. In the fluffy AU, Squirrel always makes sure there’s blueberries around when he wakes up from hibernation. In canon, she leaves the first blueberries of the season by his den, and in their last scene together, she gives him a handful of them.
Squirrel and Penguin like to go ice sledding during the winter
Squirrel is bad at conceptualizing time. If somebody asks her questions like “how old are you?” or “how long since x?” she’ll look at Bear like “answer for me pls” because he actually knows his age, has an approximation of her age compared to him, and can keep track of time better.
Because of her powers (which I’m keeping a secret for now), Squirrel gets really bad nightmares. The moment he finds out about this, Bear insists that she wakes him up whenever she has one. This is how Squirrel gets her initial permission to wake Bear up when he’s hibernating
I made a couple picrews! First up: my duo that I love so much, Squirrel and Bear
And, cuz they're the only other characters I currently have something of a mental picture of, have a Cobra and Penguin
(Penguin is absolutely a dapper lil penguin in canon and wears a suit everywhere)
~
Bear realizes first just how much he cares about Squirrel. He’s spent his whole life being a good experiment, swallowing down complaints and whimpers and growls, thinking “this is fine, this is okay, this is how things are supposed to be.” But then he sees Squirrel going through the same things, biting back whimpers and tears and screams, and he absolutely hates it. He’d do anything to protect her, to make sure she never cries like that again. Some nights, he’s afraid of how far he’d go to that end.
It takes Squirrel a long time to realize why she likes spending so much time around Bear, why his room, his den, his side is the first place she goes whenever anything, good or bad, happens. Because whenever the world got chaotic and scary and overwhelming, he was a constant, reassuring presence at her side or just a short walk away. Because he's the one who comforted her through her nightmares, and the one who ran hand in hand with her to jump off the end of the dock that first summer. And because the first time she ever felt truly safe was falling asleep and waking up by his side.
~
One important requirement for being friends with Bear was to have a proper appreciation of naps. And this moment, with her head resting on Bear's chest and the sunlight filtering through the leaves to warm her face, was a perfect moment to consider a nap. Except for the fact that there had been a thought nagging at Squirrel, refusing to leave her alone like a particularly stubborn briar.
Squirrel sighed, then turned her head. “Hey Bear?”
“Mmmmmhm.” Bear yawned and opened his eyes. “You need something?”
“What do you want?”
Bear blinked slowly, once, twice. “Another muffin.”
Squirrel poked his cheek. “You ate most of the box yourself.”
“You asked,” Bear replied, turning his head in a half-hearted attempt to bite her fingers. “And I always want more blueberries.”
“Of course you do.” Squirrel poked his cheek again. “But that’s not what I meant.”
Bear’s chest rumbled with a questioning noise that Squirrel felt more than heard.
“I mean...” Squirrel fumbled over her words. “What do you want?” she repeated, hoping Bear would understand the emphasis this time.
Bear hummed softly, absentmindedly running his hand across Squirrel’s hair. “What do you want?” he asked instead. “Because I think my answer may depend on yours.”
“I--” Squirrel didn’t like this feeling, like she was perched on a branch that wouldn’t support her weight and she didn’t know which way to jump to safety. She took a breath, steeled herself, and jumped.
“No. What-do-you-want?” She punctuated each word with a poke to Bear’s chest. “Just you. Not worrying about me or anybody else.”
Bear hummed again. Squirrel tried not to fidget while waiting for his reply.
“This.”
Squirrel started, a surprised and confused noise escaping her throat.
Bear waved his hand broadly, encompassing the leaves overhead and the sunlight dappling through and the world they were ignoring just past the boundary of the trees. “This,” he repeated. “Freedom. You right here. Waking up next to you in my den. If that’s what you want.” His hand fell back to the leaves by Squirrel's side, and when he looked at her, Squirrel felt like she was drowning in honey, warm and sweet. “So?” he asked, the unspoken what do you want? hanging in the air between them.
Squirrel slid her hand into Bear's, wrapping her fingers around his palm. “This,” she admitted. “I was just afraid you wouldn't, now that we actually have a choice.”
Bear's chest rumbled with a laugh. “I've always chosen you, even when I wasn't supposed to,” he said. “That much hasn't changed.”
“Good.” Squirrel squeezed his hand.

Bollywood’s Iconic Music Directors: Shaping Soundtracks and Shaping History in the Bollywood Music Industry
The Bollywood music industry owes much of its identity and cultural influence to a select group of legendary music directors who have shaped its soundtracks over the decades. From the golden era of the 1950s to the modern, experimental age, Bollywood’s music directors have consistently reinvented soundscapes, creating music that not only supports storytelling but also reflects the evolving tastes of audiences. These visionary composers transformed Bollywood music from classical renditions to more eclectic, global influences, marking each decade with unforgettable melodies, genres, and themes. Today, the music produced by Bollywood legends remains a key part of India’s cultural fabric, defining pivotal moments in films and sparking nationwide trends. This article explores the contributions of some of Bollywood’s most iconic music directors and how their work has redefined the Bollywood music industry, making it a global phenomenon.
1. The Golden Era: Setting the Foundations with Melody and Emotion
The early years of the Bollywood music industry, particularly the 1950s and 1960s, were defined by lush, melodious compositions that focused on emotion, storytelling, and Indian classical influences. Legendary music directors like Naushad, S.D. Burman, and Shankar-Jaikishan set a high standard, blending classical instruments like sitar, tabla, and flute with Western instruments like the violin and harmonium. Naushad’s work in Mughal-E-Azam and Baiju Bawra introduced audiences to the grandeur of orchestral compositions, while S.D. Burman brought a distinct blend of folk and classical influences, as seen in films like Guide and Bandini.
Shankar-Jaikishan, known for their romantic melodies in films like Awaara and Shree 420, became pioneers in creating music that complemented the cinematic experience, giving Bollywood its first taste of true filmic music. These directors didn’t just make songs; they made emotions, and their work defined Bollywood music’s foundation in melody, capturing the hearts of generations of listeners.
2. The 70s and 80s: The Experimental Age of Bollywood Music
The 1970s and 1980s marked an era of significant experimentation in the Bollywood music industry. Music director R.D. Burman, known as the “King of Bollywood Music,” was the primary force behind this experimental phase. With his genius for blending Western and Indian sounds, Burman created some of Bollywood’s most iconic songs, including Dum Maaro Dum and Mehbooba Mehbooba. R.D. Burman’s music brought elements of rock, jazz, and disco into mainstream Bollywood, making it more relatable to the youth and giving the industry a more modern edge.
Laxmikant-Pyarelal, another prominent duo of the era, made waves with their wide range of music that catered to every emotion, from soulful melodies to peppy numbers. Their contributions in films like Karz and Ek Duje Ke Liye showcased Bollywood’s ability to cater to a wider audience while still retaining the classic elements of Indian music. The influence of these music directors during the 70s and 80s shifted Bollywood music towards a more global sound, laying the groundwork for even more innovation in the coming decades.
3. The Technological Leap in the 90s: A.R. Rahman’s Impact
The Bollywood music industry witnessed another significant transformation in the 1990s with the arrival of A.R. Rahman, whose work took Bollywood music to international levels of acclaim. Rahman’s debut in Roja (1992) stunned audiences with his innovative use of electronic instruments, digital recording techniques, and fusion of Western and Indian classical elements. Known for his intricate layering and unique sound design, Rahman brought a fresh approach that made Bollywood soundtracks stand out globally.
Rahman’s compositions in films like Dil Se, Bombay, and Taal showcased his experimental edge and advanced production skills, capturing the attention of international audiences. His work even led him to Hollywood, where he won two Academy Awards for Slumdog Millionaire. Rahman’s influence extends beyond Bollywood, helping to redefine India’s place in the global music scene. His dedication to quality and innovation set a benchmark, and he remains one of the most celebrated figures in the Bollywood music industry.
4. Modern-Day Maestros: Fusion and Innovation in the 2000s and Beyond
As the Bollywood music industry moved into the 2000s and 2010s, a new generation of music directors emerged, bringing in an era of fusion, technology, and international collaboration. Music directors like Vishal-Shekhar, Pritam, and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have helped Bollywood music evolve further by blending traditional Indian sounds with contemporary styles such as EDM, rock, and hip-hop.
Pritam’s work in films like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Barfi! showcases his versatility and ability to craft songs that cater to modern audiences while maintaining Bollywood’s soulful essence. Similarly, Vishal-Shekhar’s music in films like Om Shanti Om and Student of the Year has introduced audiences to Bollywood’s pop side, making it relatable for younger listeners. These modern-day composers understand the pulse of the youth, creating music that’s both fresh and universally appealing.
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy brought a distinct blend of classical and Western influences, evident in soundtracks like Dil Chahta Hai and Rock On!!, which introduced Bollywood to the idea of full-length rock ballads and pop-rock anthems. These directors have embraced technology, and their ability to innovate has kept Bollywood music relevant in a rapidly changing industry.
5. Global Influence and the Rise of Independent Artists
The Bollywood music industry today is not only shaped by established music directors but also by the rise of independent artists and the influence of global trends. The internet and digital platforms have allowed new artists to gain visibility and share their music with a wide audience, leading to collaborations with international artists and more genre experimentation. Indie artists like Prateek Kuhad and DIVINE have brought fresh sounds and ideas to Bollywood, challenging traditional norms and showcasing a blend of modern and traditional Indian influences.
Collaborations with international artists like Will.i.am and Pitbull have also brought Bollywood music closer to global mainstream sounds. This integration of global and indie music styles has diversified Bollywood’s sound, making it more versatile and appealing to audiences around the world.
Conclusion:
The Bollywood music industry has been shaped by the brilliance of iconic music directors, each of whom brought unique styles, innovations, and influences that transformed Bollywood soundtracks and defined entire eras of Indian cinema. From the emotional, melody-driven compositions of Naushad and Shankar-Jaikishan to the experimental and global appeal of R.D. Burman and A.R. Rahman, these visionaries have created music that continues to captivate audiences. Today’s music directors continue to build on this legacy, using technology and fusion to take Bollywood music to new heights. As the Bollywood music industry embraces both tradition and innovation, it’s clear that its journey is far from over, with new generations of artists carrying the legacy forward into an exciting, global future.

Rain Must Fall ◇ Information & Index
◇ Introduction
Rain Must Fall is the main series of this blog and is the series surrounding the Super Sim 100% Completion challenge. If you don’t know, the Super Sim challenge (via James Turner) is all about taking one sim and making them a super sim by maxing all skills, completing all aspirations, maxing all careers and a few more things. I’m taking it a step further, though, and doing a “completionist” run by completing even more stuff with one sim.
For the longest time, I fought with myself over how I wanted to do it. Do I add in a story element or just post my progress? Should I record each session and post them on YouTube? It drove me batty and is the main reason I’ve struggled to fully start this challenge.
Originally, I decided to go with the flow. I’m a writer at heart so, of course, I wanted to craft a story behind this playthrough. Though I will do my best to keep the story going, I’ve decided to also post a commentary version since it takes less time and I can share my thoughts. In the background, I will continue to work on the story portion!
I hope you’ll join me and help motivate me to keep this going c:
Challenge Started: August 2nd, 2024 Challenge Completed: TBD
◇ Information
Main sim is immortal and does not age (after reaching young adult.)
I've used MCCC to add the non-aging traits to both her and Oscar.
Everyone else ages normally.
Main sim will complete everything except for infant-child stuff (which will be completed by her kids, grandkids, etc.)
99% of the time I will only play my main sim and let the others manage themselves (ISBI style.)
The prologue of the story edition may be a bit dark but the rest of the series should be pretty light-hearted.
This series will contain explicit language.

The Memorial Day holiday weekend is almost upon us, which means we’ve finally reached the much-anticipated unofficial start of summer! Get ready to break out your sunscreen, flip flops and white jeans and dig into some tasty classic cookout fare. You can rest assured that your local Down to Earth farmers market will be well-stocked with all the grilling essentials and plenty of seasonal goodies to snap up as you make the rounds at your favorite vendors this Sunday. Marinades Before you tie on your apron and fire up the barbie, your fresh meat, fish, poultry and veggies from the farmers market will require a little pre-grilling TLC to bring out their best. Marinades are just seasoned sauces that you apply before cooking but the introduction of salt, acid and then the heat of cooking amplifies the marinade’s effect on texture and taste. Similar to a vinaigrette, marinades are typically made up of three parts oil to one part acid (3:1) plus seasonings and aromatics that can be handpicked to create whatever style and flavor you desire. If you’d rather skip the DIY, MOMO Dressing's line of unique Japanese-inspired dressings make the perfect ready-to-use marinades with an Asian twist. MOMO Dressing uses the freshest ingredients sourced from eco-certified New York State farms to create their small-batch, handcrafted products right here in Brooklyn, NY. Their flavors include Shiso (Japanese Mint), Basil, Sesame, Yuzu Jalapeno and Ginger. Condiments Your juicy burgers and hot dogs are going to be fully decked out this weekend thanks to an array of delicious farmers market condiments to choose from:
Dr. Pickle’s Mmmelish combines the doc’s sweet relish with horseradish brined sauerkraut, spicy brown mustard, and finely chopped horseradish pickles. Try it once and you'll be hooked! It’s the ultimate enhancer for beefy burgers, dogs, sausages, veggie burgers and even grilled cheese. Don’t forget to pick up a jar of their whole pickles and pickle chips too. No barbecue is complete without them!
MOMO Dressing's homemade BBQ Sauce will add layers of smoky, tangy, thick and sweet flavors to whatever it’s paired with.
Bombay Chutney Company's authentic Indian chutneys will make the perfect spicy accompaniment to all your grilled entrees. Flavors include mint, plum, cranberry, coconut, pomegranate and tomato.
Your burger will taste great topped with sticky caramelized onions and Taiim Shack Mobile's creamy hummus for a delicious contrast.
Simple Fine Foods makes farm-to-table sauces, spreads, condiments and British pub-inspired heat-and-eat foods. Their line of bottled, squeezable sauces will jazz up everything from egg and potato salads to burgers, dogs and fries. Flavors include Everything Aioli Squeeze, Pesto Aioli Squeeze, Spicy Chipotle Squeeze and Sriracha Horseradish Squeeze.
Fixings Why not splash out and put all the fixings on your burgers, sandwiches and dogs this weekend! After all, extra toppings and garnish deliver a punch of visual appeal, layers of flavor and nutritional goodness to boot!
Bacon makes everything taste better so fry up some rashers of Goode and Local By Don Rodrigo’s premium thick-cut, hickory-smoked Pennsylvania bacon. Lightly flavored with maple syrup, cinnamon, and spices, their pastured, Mangalitsa bacon is nitrate and nitrite-free for a healthier alternative without compromising on taste or quality.
Dr. Pickle’s fresh barrel sauerkraut is crisp, golden and delicious. They make it by lightly salting and soaking white cabbage in vinegar and water.
Raw onions can pack a pungent bite, not to mention the need for breath mints! Caramelized onions are delicious on top of a burger or sandwich and are super easy to make at home. Pick up 2-3 yellow, white, or red onions at the farmstalls, Maplebrook Farm unsalted butter and a bottle of balsamic vinegar and olive oil and follow this simple recipe to whip up your own batch that will last for a few days in the fridge.
A medley of sautéed gourmet mushrooms from Mushrooms.NYC make a delicious side or topping and will add a pop of flavor to burgers, steak, chicken, fish and salads.
Of course, a classic American burger isn’t truly complete without a generous layer of crisp lettuce and ripe tomatoes. Instead of blander iceberg lettuce, branch out with some crunchy romaine or silky butterhead lettuces which are not only tastier, they also contain a variety of vitamins and minerals. Although tomato season isn’t here yet, the farms are carrying greenhouse-grown tomatoes which have ripened under the spring sunshine of late.
Strawberries are reaching their springtime prime right now which means selecting dessert will be a no-brainer for Memorial Day. And goodness knows that a big dollop of Goodness Dairy's grass-fed, creamy vanilla ice cream will make the perfect “condiment” for these lushly ripe ruby red gems. As we usher in the warmer weather and droves of new seasonal produce, we wish you a relaxing long weekend and look forward to seeing you in the farmers market.

Evolution of Bollywood Music
The Indian film industry produces over 2,000 movies annually, a number surpassing Hollywood's output. Bollywood, situated in Mumbai (formerly Bombay), is the Hindi-language film industry in India.Bollywood music emanates from the song-and-dance sequences in Hindi films. Given their enduring popularity and cultural influence, these songs and dances have become defining elements of Hindi cinema. The widespread appeal of Bollywood songs can be attributed, in part, to composers' openness to incorporating influences from diverse musical genres like Western pop, jazz, rock, and classical music. While primarily composed in Hindi, these songs often deviate from standard Hindi in vocabulary and language, incorporating Urdu, Persian, English words, and various Hindi dialects.
Bollywood music originated in 1931 with India's inaugural sound motion film, "Alam Ara" by Ardeshir Irani, featuring seven songs. The genre blossomed as subsequent films like Jamshedji Framji Madan’s "Shirheen Farhad" (1931) incorporated numerous song sequences. From 1931 to 1940, India produced about 930 films, averaging ten songs each, with actors often singing. However, the '40s and '50s saw a shift to independent producers, leading to the rise of playback singing. This introduced artists like Lata Mangeshkar, Hemant Kumar, Asha Bhosle, C. Ramchandra, and S. D. Burman. Playback singing became essential due to the quality of film equipment until 2001's "Lagaan," marking the advent of synchronous sound in Indian cinema. Unlike the U.S. or U.K. music industries, India's music industry evolved as a subsidiary of Bollywood, lacking a distinct growth trajectory.

September 24th
Today is World Bollywood Day!
For those who don't know, Bollywood is another term for Hindi Cinema and is formerly known as Bombay Cinema. Most movies in this genre are based in Mumbai and are made in the Hindi language.
Indian cinema started out in the 1900s with silent films, before growing in the 1930s when their first talking films, called Bombay Talkies, came out. By the 1970s, the Indian film industry even overtook Hollywood, which is where the term Bollywood was coined as a portmanteau of Bombay and Hollywood. By the 21st century, Bollywood had grown to the point where they were creating 1,000 pieces per year.
So what's unique about Bollywood films? Well, the main driving force of the films is the stars in them, rather than the plot. They are also known for the dance sequences and singing, with actors being dubbed over by a singer for their numbers.
Bollywood films are watched by over 3 billion people, internationally. And you can join, if you haven't already!
So how do you celebrate today?
Well, you can obviously start off by watching Bollywood films, like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Pyaasa, and Veer-Zaara. Make sure to clear your schedule, though, because many of them are 2 hours or more.
Another celebration method is learning some of the dance moves, which you can do for exercise as well. In fact, many dance teachers are teaching it, and incorporating belly dancing, Indian folk dancing, modern jazz, and Western pop. It can also be used at parties and weddings.
Lastly, you can also do some research and watch the works of some Bollywood stars, like Sah Ruh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Salman Khan.
That's all, y'all! Happy World Bollywood Day!
