Controversy over 'brownface' ad shows need to err on side of caution: Grace Fu
SINGAPORE - The "brownface" advertisement controversy earlier this year, which had a Chinese actor-deejay painting his face brown to depict an Indian man, shows a need to err on the side of caution to avoid causing anger and ill-will to others, said Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu.
The incident also shows a need to develop sensitivity in knowing when not to cross the line, she said.
"Does it make people angry, does it cause ill-will? If so, I think we should err on the side of caution," she said.

A cheerleader wearing a Halloween costume resembling blackface was caugh...
Now the cheerleading gym has apologized for the mask worn by the child. The video posted on Facebook by Kevin Garner Sr., an African American activist, shows a girl in a black mask running from another child in a police costume during a Halloween lock-in at Champion Cheer in Southlake, Texas. Then the “cop” chases the girl, pushes her to the ground and gets on her back to arrest her as cash goes flying, video shows. Garner, who founded activist group BKG Empowerment Network, called it racist. https://www.star-telegram.com/news/st... #whytheracecardisplayed

WHAT IS WITH WHITE PEOPLE AND BLACK FACE?? A Colorado State University freshman photographed wearing blackface said she is "guilty of insensitivity and stupidity" but is not racist. Leana Kaplan was one of four CSU students pictured in an Instagram story wearing blackface, with text on the photo reading “Wakanda forevaa,” a reference to Marvel’s "Black Panther." Three male students in the photo have not been publicly identified. The now viral photo was taken after one of the men in the photo got a free sample of facial mud he picked up at CSU, Leana and her father said Friday. "As a person who doesn't use such a product, he thought it would be funny to apply it in our presence, and before we knew it, we were all wearing mud," Leana Kaplan wrote in a statement sent to the Coloradoan Friday. "Without it being our intention, we were suddenly a group in blackface. The stupidity evolved into silliness when one of the guys recited 'Wakanda Forever' from the movie 'Black Panther,' and we made the movie's arms-crossed-salute." "At what point does someone say: 'Stop, we are coming across as racists'?" she continued. "Unfortunately, in that moment, that point didn't happen." The photo quickly went viral and was widely criticized after another individual took a screenshot and shared the image. #whytheracecardisplayed
