Honestly, one of the best things about being in a small fandom or shipping something that isn't popular is knowing when you go into the tags, you won't have to see those mediocre generic fandom culture posts about reading too much fic, being disappointed in canon, or crying over otps, the kind that has 30 gifs and is crosstagged with either every boring mlm ship, every edgy het ship, or every canon het ship under the sun

I was watching a Brandon Sanderson lecture on YouTube and he was talking about how you could use x aspect of worldbuilding to enhance a story in y genre. One combination the class was brainstorming with was "military structure affecting a romance." One student suggested, "To join the military you have to be married and fight alongside your spouse, but the protagonist who wants to join the military is a BYU freshman who can't find a wife." 😂 I would read that.

Ooh that's interesting... Justifying it would be fun, too... like it could be that the method of fighting requires a relationship, ala Pacific Rim, except it has to be official and legal rather than your minds being full drift compatible... or it could have evolved culturally and socially, because spouses are unlikely to abandon their own spouses in battle... or it could be a fascist tyranny that wants to discourage treason and root out spies... lol, it's a neat idea!

Now I'm thinking about how so many of these relationships would probably start out as hey, you're really strong and I'm really quick, we'd make a good team, let's get married just so we can fight, oh, now I'm in love with you... there'd have to be a whole department for certifying marriage authenticity, like in The Proposal?
