Getting Around Brooklyn
Tumblr media
Brooklyn is a big city, but it's also made up of neighborhoods with their own distinct personalities. That means that if you're not familiar with the borough, it can be difficult to figure out exactly how to get from point A to point B. Luckily for all those first-time visitors and longtime residents alike who want some help getting around, Brooklyn has plenty of public transportation options for getting around the city quickly and easily!
Walking
Tumblr media
Walking is the most sustainable way to get around Brooklyn. It’s a great way to get some exercise, too. Walking is one of the best ways to explore your neighborhood and meet people in it, and it’s also easy and free!
Biking
Tumblr media
Biking is a great way to get around Brooklyn. It's affordable, healthy, and environmentally friendly.
You can rent a bike from your local shop or online from sites like Craigslist. Don't forget to wear a helmet!
Citi Bike
Citi Bike is a bike share system in New York City. It's owned by NYC but operated by Motivate. In 2018 there were over 10,000 bikes in the city and plans to expand to 12,000 by 2020.
The cost of riding a Citi Bike depends on several factors:
The first 30 minutes are free; after that, you'll be charged $2 per hour with no upper limit on the number of rides you can take within 24 hours (but if you're going longer than 4 hours total time on the bike in 24 hours it'll cost more). If you want an annual pass ($1250), then your first hour will still be free while all subsequent rides would be $1 per half hour up to 8 hours total time used within one day before reaching a maximum charge of $60 per ride.*
Taxis
Tumblr media
Taxis are the most convenient way to get around Brooklyn. You should always hail a taxi on the street, rather than ringing it up from your home or office. This way you will not be charged extra for the service. Be sure to ask if there is an additional fee before getting in and taking off!
If you have trouble paying for your ride using cash, most taxi drivers accept credit cards as well as debit cards. If you do not have any of these forms of payment with you, but still need a ride somewhere fast, then try asking someone else nearby if they could lend some cash before taking off yourself!
If another vehicle hits yours while traveling within Brooklyn by taxi then don't worry—you won't need any legal assistance from lawyers at this time because there shouldn't be any damage done at all (if things go well). However, if there is some kind of damage done that needs fixing then call us immediately so we can send over one of our best mechanics right away :) They'll take care of everything right away so don't worry anymore now :)
Uber and Lyft
Uber and Lyft are two popular ride-sharing services that are cheaper, easier to use and safer than taxis. They can get you from the airport or train station to your hotel with ease.
Ride-sharing services Uber and Lyft allow users to request a ride via their app. Once connected, users can see information about the driver who will be picking them up and track their progress as they approach. Both services offer cashless payments through the app, so riders don't have to worry about carrying cash or credit cards around with them while traveling abroad.
You have plenty of options for getting where you need to go.
You have plenty of options for getting where you need to go. You can walk, bike, or take public transportation; get around by taxi or ride-share; use a car service or call a friend for a ride, or use one of the many bike-share programs available in and around Brooklyn.

Bikecation at The Warehouse Hotel
As we countdown to our big day at the end of the year, we felt that we needed a break from all of the preparations and enjoy the festive season. So we decided to have a fun bikecation where we bike to The Warehouse Hotel for a leisurely two-day stay without online meetings and conference calls.
Tumblr media
Cycling to The Warehouse Hotel is relatively simple as you bike along the Kallang River, head up to The Merlion Park, and follow the Singapore River as you go through Clark Quay to reach Robertson Quay. Once we reached the hotel, we simply parked our bikes inside the hotel and the hotel staff helped us to store it. The hotel also offers bikes for guests to cycle round the neighborhood to explore the riverside life.
Tumblr media
Thanks to a dear friend, we were able to upgrade to a spacious River View Room. The room was generally clean with a large bathroom and the typical amenities. One of the highlights of the room was a Bluetooth Bang & Olufsen Speaker with an amazing Spotify song list specially curated by DJ KFC for the hotel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once we have settled in, it was time to have a drink at its Lobby Bar which serves impressive craft cocktail concoctions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our first round of drinks featured THE GOLDEN AGE (saffron gin & vermouth, verjus, shoyu, olive tapenade) and BARBARELLA (hibiscus gin, elderflower, raspberry, egg white, earl grey). The drinks were balanced, full bodied, refreshing, and perfect for the festive season.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After nursing our drinks for an hour, it was time for another round with the B.B. King featuring banana sous vide in whisky to create a silky smooth aromatic spirit mixed with smoked maple syrup and barbecue bitter. It is a drink that you only need to savor once to fall in love with it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before the rain clouds rolled into town, we took a quick dip at the small pool accessible by the staircase on the 2nd level. There was minimal privacy from the street and the surrounding buildings, and the view was non-existent so hotel guests can definitely skip it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since The Warehouse Hotel is part of The Lo & Behold Group, we had to enjoy a meal at Po which features a refined modern Singaporean concept on local classics and staples.
Tumblr media
Below is a quick round-up of our favorites from the breakfast menu:
HERBAL PORK BONE BROTH: Tender US Prime pork ribs, 8-hour rich white Sarawak pepper broth, freshly fried charcoal Chinese dough fritter.
The soup was delicious though it seemed to lack that extra bit of umami with the pepper being too gentle for my taste buds. The pork ribs were tender and juicy but I prefer it to be less fatty.
Tumblr media
COLONIAL CHICKEN CURRY: Simmered chicken and potatoes served with crispy roti prata or jasmine rice.
One of the best chicken curry that I have savored these past few years and the roti prata has just the right level of crispiness and body to soak up all of the juices without losing its crunch.
Tumblr media
CHEE CHEONG FUN by CHEF BEN YEO: The famous artisan take on a local favorite served with soya sauce, sweet sauce, peanut sauce, fragrant oil and sambal chili.
My wife simply adored this version and she did not usually like chee cheong fun at all so it is a good indication of how good the dish is.
Tumblr media
HEARTY ENGLISH BREAKFAST: Sunny side up eggs, chicken sausages, crispy smoked bacon, herb potatoes, mushrooms, vine tomatoes.
Standard breakfast fare done right and lives up to expectations though it is a little bit lackluster compared to its unique perspectives on local dishes. I would have loved it if the classic English Breakfast was also given its own twist and flair.
Tumblr media
And with that we end our two-day bikecation at The Warehouse Hotel and for the big question on everyone’s mind right now:
Was it worth it? Would I return for another stay at the warehouse?
The answer is a resounding yes mostly due to its excellent service, its amazing lobby bar and flagship restaurant, and its strategic location to Robertson Quay and Clark Quay for wining and dining.
Small suggestions for improvements include better cleaning in the rooms as I can spot dust and stains under the tables and shelves, and better use of the pool area for amenities that might make more sense.
Counting down to our big event at the end of the year!

Contributor Roll Call 🎤 Meet Tasha Sandoval (@ovalofsand), contributor of “My Bike, My (Dyke) Space: Owning Queer Joy On My Cycla”. Tasha is a Cuban-American and Colombian queer, writer, and adventurer. She developed her love of biking while living in Boston, where she was involved in WTC and urban cycling communities. She recently moved back to her birth city of Bogotá- the unofficial bike capital of Latin America- to reconnect with her Colombian roots and explore her intersectional identity in a different context. In addition to biking, Tasha is also writing about her observations and misadventures in Bogotá on Medium. . Whenever one thinks of urban cycling, cities like Amsterdam and Copenhagen come to mind. But what about Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Santiago, or Mexico City? Some of these urban agglomerations are starting to call themselves “World Cycling Capitals,” a claim that usually coincides with the adoption of bicycle-friendly public policies. Under this, Tasha explores Bogotá by bike, finding spaces for herself in a queer-bike friendly city. . Tasha’s journey as a bike dyke from Boston to Colombia, reminds us that we can cultivate joy for ourselves on our bikes no matter the places we bike or intersecting identities. Something we can all closely relate to. . You can read more of Tasha’s journey in our first issue “Our Bikes, Our Stories” in link in profile and follow along their journey in Colombia on Medium (link in profile). . 1 Tag in Amsterdam
