Friday was my last day at Valve.
Leaving a job full of people and projects you love is always hard, but I have a pretty good reason for it this time around:
Next Monday is my first day at Cyan.
Feels appropriate to announce this on Riven's anniversary, the game that is entirely to blame for who I am as a concept artist and Art Director. WHO WOULD I EVEN BE if I hadn't had my 11yo mind blown by the little wahrk gallows counting toy in the Rivenese schoolhouse??? It's a mystery.
I can’t talk about what's on the horizon just yet—short of helping to get Riven out the door—but I’m thrilled to finally be a part of this studio, officially, after thirty years of wistful pining. If my ancient Riven fanart is anything to go by, it's been a long time comin.'😎

A neat little detail in Half-Life 2 that I noticed was, at the end in the office scene, when Judith is trying to persuade Breen, she starts out with saying "Dr. Breen" then switches to his first name "Wallace."
When Breen is trying to persuade Judith, he starts out with "Judith" then switchs to "Dr. Mossman."
interpret this how you will (my own yap in the tags)

#really just want to see agni (and grace) being cool 😳 if that's not obvious enough#忠 on hatz's back means loyal#the sky is filled with shinsu loops (inspired by water dragon heavy storm technique but less destructive in exchange for wider range)#also if you haven't connected the dots yet. grace and jinsung are having a spar somewhere. and Agni is keeping it inside a massive barrier#he set up the barrier with shinsu devices ofc. not purely Agni's power. we can see him doing some typing there since he controls it#Also I forget if i have it written on future chapter or discarded it on this update script. but just in case i don't. here's an explanation#the barrier was meant to keep the chaos inside to stay inside. but because the shinsu on lower floors aren't as concentrated as upper floor#and shinsu inside the barrier was condensed with Grace's power. If the barrier was completely blocked off it'd be easy to suffocate inside#so they need the outside shinsu to be able to cross inside or Agni wouldn't be able to stay inside. Thus I imagine it like a one way valve#it's easy to cross from the outside but hard to get out without deactivating the barrier. and that was why Hatz was trapped#Laure on the prev chpt must've noticed that the flow of shinsu got siphoned somewhere and thus the 'something is wrong' feeling#but no one else notice bc it'd prob feel like a passing breeze. considering with how big a floor is#tower of god#tog#two sides of the same coin comic#my comic#my art#khun#koon#khun a.a#khun aguero agnis#hatz#rak wraithraiser#rak

When a studio I like makes a low effort but high market appeal game it's a strategic move to raise funds for their future more ambitious titles. When a studio I don't like does it it's a heartless cashgrab indicative of an overall loss of quality and a signal of their impending failure.
#this ones actually sincere#cuz generally theones I don't like are owned by large companies who have the money to keep making good games#but are just doing it to make investors happy and as such aren't likely to improve#but I'm an indiehead so the studios i likeoften actually need to do it as they're usually self publishing or being funded by small publishe#but this is about elden ring nightreign and deadlock#and I don't think either of those studios are lacking in funds#at the same time though#valves next expected game is half life 3 which has unimaginably big shoes to fill#and whatever fromsoft makes next will be expected to match or outdo elden ring

Never forgiving Valve for giving Engineer the most in-depth and story-relevant backstory, having him be the grandfather of the creator of the life-extender machines, the son of the TFC Engineer, and establishing a key connection between the Conaghers and Elizabeth/Helen/Mann family, only to then relegate him to a supporting character, have him appear for only 10 pages in the main comics, and then never say or do anything
#sp-rambles#tf2#tf2 engineer#I get it Soldier is the funny goofy haha guy but VALVE PLEASE THE OTHER MERCS EXIST#Literally Soldier is like the main character of these comics with how much he pops up and is relevant#Demo and Engie get shafted so much those guys deserved so much better#Heavy too#How many of those gags about Soldier being an idiot could've been spent on something related to Engie or Demo#Demo ain't even got his own comic his biggest break is in War! and he doesn't get some big iconic moment everyone likes#Justice for the Defense team I love them too much for them to be treated like this#Engie probably would've done *something* in comic 7 but let's be honest that thing's never coming out#Mostly pissed he's just oftentimes the straight-man supporting character in the comics and whatever#Loose Cannon was great I liked that bit with him being zapped by electricity and still treatening Blutarch#But othertimes he just???? Isn't really a character?????#Teething and biting at my enclosure as I continue to go back to writing fanfic about loosely defined characters
