Another series of special Betty Boop acrylic painting birthday gifts I did for an old friend of mine from 2018-2021. This was originally a tradition I first started when we were originally dating that I would do one Betty Boop character for her for every year of her birthday. I would usually save the character decisions for a surprise and spend a few months out of the year working on each painting. Sometimes, to test her history of Fleischer Studios or the character, I would usually leave a few hints as to what the surprise would be just for the heck of it.

For the final year, I did a connective painting that I started in 2020 and finished in 2021. I prepared these two respectively one year in advance so that way I could have a bit of a fourth wall breaking piece as an elaborate gift. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

No sight of Betty for a few months.

People: Betty is getting old and maybe suffering from arthritis and probably in a corner just relaxing on her comfy bed. Hope she hasn’t passed 😞

Betty: Running with mamma way more than most us do all month 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♀️ and instead of throwing herself on the ground and panting she’s still sniffing around making sure there’s no signs of predators and mamma is safe, then keeping up with all the active kids every day all hours of the day, and only relaxes while the active people stuff their faces with pizza 🍕🐶

🦴🐶 I feel that Hot Dog is one of the more overlooked characters from Archie Comics. Most stories tend revolve around his master, Jughead, Archie, Betty, Veronica, Reggie, Cheryl, and most of the prominent human characters. In my opinion, his most definitive role was as a comic relief character in “The Archie Show”, the goofy animal mascot of a group of teens. On the show, Hot Dog was voiced by Dallas McKennon, best known for voicing Gumby and other classic characters. McKennon even provided the voices for Archie, Mr. Weatherbee, Pop Tate, and Mr. Lodge. Regardless of his often sporadic appearances, Hot Dog is definitely the best animal friend for Jughead and Archie and the gang as well.
