for the never have i ever meme: slow burn!!
god a real true slow burn is my white whale, concept wise; i want to write one SO BAD. obvi there are some pairings where that is easier than others (brady/anyone, ducklings could also make a great slow burn but probably more stupid than swooningly romantic lol) but i keep thinking about matthew/leon as like, a personal challenge. like, ofc i have written them fucking and falling in love [redacted] times but a version of them where they don't fuck and still fall in love??? now that's a CHALLENGE challenge
for more realism points, you could have some future fic wacky trade shenanigans, and perhaps someday i will write somethign with those so i will selfishly keep them to myself until i know more. but a thing that i am not going to write (but think about often) is my version of "both of them get drafted by the kraken in the expansion draft (and no one knows how edmonton or calgary could've let that happen)"
because the thing is, the kraken are gonna be shit. everyone knows this. seattle isn't vegas, they're not going to be going to the cup finals their first year out the gate. ron francis has time to build up the franchise. they won't be good. and that eats at leon, because like, when in his life has he ever been satisfied with not being good? never. and now he's stuck on this shitty team just starting out and got abandoned by his franchise and what the fuck is he supposed to do now.
and the other thing is, 2020 was not all that long ago. and yeah, leon never actually hated matthew tkachuk, not in the way it got spun up, but that doesn't mean they're best friends. not even buddies. they are teammates, and they have a job to do, and leon doesn't need to get along with the guy except on the ice.
except a week into the preseason, he and matthew go for some pr thing to a local brewery, and in between tasting beers that are disgustingly hoppy and eating too many pretzels, matthew hisses across the table that look, he knows leon doesn't like him, that leon isn't his biggest fan, but doesn't he want to work together? doesn't he want this to work out? and when leon glares back, matthew adds that he at least wants to prove his old team wrong.
well. leon can't argue with that.
first season is shit. the way everyone knew it would be. but it's not - absolute shit. they get a lot closer to the playoffs than they have any right to. leon and matthew and mccann are producing. and - turns out matthew isn't so awful, once he's out of calgary. turns out he's down to do whatever - team bonding experiences, checking out new restaurants. and half the time, leon gets roped along. he stops protesting after a while.
second season, though -
they're better. they're a lot better. francis made some solid moves; they managed to snatch up a first overall pick at fourth. matty beniers is here from ann arbor, and yeah he looks at matthew a little like matthew hung the moon, but that's mostly funny instead of annoying. the ntdp really is a cult. matthew and leon aren't always on a line, but when they are, they click.
and matthew hasn't stopped being down to do whatever. has continued, in fact, to insist on doing things. exploring the city. becoming regulars. they'll get lunch after practice. drinks after games. on the road, more often than not, when leon's making plans, he's making them with matthew.
halfway through the season, they're on track to at least get a wild card spot. maybe better. during their bye week, they join a group of guys going to cabo. at the bar, matthew orders them both drinks in flat midwestern-accented spanish, clinks his shot glass against leon's. leon spends half a second staring at matthew's hand around the tiny glass, then his mouth, wet and red, before he remembers to take the shot.
when leon takes his shot, he opens his eyes to find matthew looking back at him, eyes dark and heated and unmistakable, and oh, this is not something leon wanted to know that he wanted. not now, when they still have so much to prove.

Fun and/or delightful things said by my assorted tour guides during this trip to Lisbon:
After I asked if people study Spanish in school in Portugal: “No, it's too close to Portuguese. Of course, we all think we can speak Spanish, but we can't.”
During our food tour (with Devour btw, highly recommended in any of the cities they do tours in!), our half Italian, half Ethiopian tour guide who’s been living in Lisbon for a decade: “I don’t know why the Portuguese don’t eat vegetables. They have them. And yet on the menus it’s all meat and fish.”
(This dude also gave us the A++++ tips of: enter the Livraria Bertrand via the cafe entrance on the side, much less crowded, and visit the Estufia Fria, which was a truly lovely and surprisingly big botanical garden. A quiet and peaceful respite during the trip!)
(Also, this dude’s tragic backstory: half Italian, and allergic to tomatoes :( Though he did constantly shit talk Italian food for being too boring and set in its ways lol.)
When we got to the big market with fresh fruits and veggies: “See, they have vegetables!”
About all the explorers and colonizers etc: “You know, they say these guys did it all for the glory of Portugal, but come on! They did it for the money!” (Appreciated that this guy also mentioned, hey, we have all these monuments about the Age of Discovery, but none memorializing its evils and horrors.”)
Dueling opinions about the pasteis de nata: food tour guy said Manteigaria has the best (though he allowed that Castro’s were pretty good too), other guide said the originals in Belem are the best. First tour guide said forget about pasteis de nata, Sintra’s pastries are where it’s at.
Coolest sights:
Unfortunately, the major parks and sights in Sintra were closed due to wildfire risk. It was still neat to visit the town though!
Cabo de Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe was a surprisingly neat stop on one of our tours. Super windy, but neat to say you’ve been there.
The Jeronimos Monastery. Should you ever go, I really recommend booking a tour if only to skip the longest line, because holy shit that line was enormous. Anyway, the Manueline architecture is gorgeous.
Igreja de Sao Domingo. Fascinating story and interior. We stopped in during our food tour, and it’s so interesting to see the building’s history of disaster and reconstruction written on it so plainly.
The enormous Time Out Market that houses curated restaurants in a food court setting one one side and a traditional market on the other is just super neat and it’s worth it just to take in the atmosphere.
The MAAT museum was fine, but tbh, the view of the Tagus River and statue of Christ Redeemer from their cafe was lovely. Worth eating a light meal or having a coffee here and just relaxing!
God I wish we had a culture of nice, big public squares with great architecture and plenty of cafes and benches in the US. I know there are some on the East Coast, but here on the West Coast, we just have the occasional little park :( Every single such square we saw in Lisbon was lovely.
The Estufia Fria, as mentioned above.
The National Tile Museum! Sounds boring, but it was both interesting and super impressive.
Gulbenkian Museum. Now this is how insanely rich dudes should spend their money: collecting massive amounts of art and then putting it all on display in a museum in perpetuity after their deaths. Great collection of Egyptian, Near Eastern, Chinese, Japanese, and European art, plus a stunning though small-ish Lalique collection.
Mostly though we just wandered around, which is honestly my favorite thing to do in a new to me city, and while the hills are punishing, Lisbon is a great city to wander in.
Most delicious things I ate:
Gotta agree with food tour guy, it was the Mantegiaria pasteis de nata for me.
Meat sushi??? It was cooked, but it still felt like a great sushi innovation.
Chocolate cake from Landeau. Life-ruiningly good. All other chocolate cakes will pale in comparison.
Some astonishingly good Indian/Nepalese food, somewhat surprisingly. Some of the best naan I’ve ever had, and their dishes were presented so beautifully. Like, I like Indian food just fine in America! It’s basically always tasty! But this was on another level, and still comparable in price to the nicer Indian restaurants in the States.
Some of the best roasted chicken I’ve ever had in my life. Very simply prepared, but so tender and tasty.
Ate at one (1) fine dining restaurant, and damn, okay, that’s what the prices are about. I had duck breast and the dish as a whole was just exceptional.
Some very good gelato at the packed and bustling Time Out Market. Such a cool spot, I honestly wish every city had a version of this. (I know LA kind of does, but I like that the Time Out Market is curated.)
At the other end of the spectrum, a suspiciously cheap restaurant near our hotel that nonetheless had phenomenal food. Straightforward Portuguese with a twist food, presented beautifully with pretty generous portion sizes. Seriously though, it was so cheap I actually felt kind of guilty about it. Also they were cash only?? And had weird hours?? So maybe it’s a front? But the hotel recommended it and they’ve been in business for 50 years! So whatever, if it is a front, thank you to whatever mob boss is supporting their relative’s culinary dreams. Anyway, best chocolate mousse and sangria I’ve had to date, and the mains were good too. Truly felt like we got away with something eating mains, drinks, and dessert for two for 36 euros.
Our hotel brought us fresh pastries for breakfast every morning, and the chocolate croissants were especially delicious.
Okay, I know ginjinha is traditional and all here, but. Listen. It tastes like especially alcoholic cough syrup. (The booze-soaked cherry included in the shot glass was good tho) The white wine port I had at the suspiciously cheap restaurant, on the other hand, was absolutely delicious.

Note
argument for cabo: its very mountainous and large granite rocks protrude out of the beach. has so many "look at ur phone for a sec and walk right past" small restaurants that have the best food you have ever eaten. and so so so much tequila. also in the colder months its whale migration so you see whales blow out and jump out of the water and have babies in jan/feb
anon, you’ve certainly done a good job of selling cabo to me tbh absolutely genius to remind me of the tequila
the fic is split in 3 sections like the rehearsal dinner, the wedding, the morning after
if i went with cabo it’d be cute for joel to take her into town on a proper date before they go home omg

SchÀtze der Algarve: Inseln, StrÀnde, StÀdte...
Tumblr media

But with an ocean of fantastic destinations out there, sometimes it can be complicated to narrow down the perfect spot for your next incentive trip. Should you go for the vibrant energy of a city escape, the calming vibes of a beach retreat, or the adventure of a mountain getaway?
To make things a bit easier for you, we have decided on some of the best incentive travel destinations and included what makes each destination special, as well as the best time to visit. Let’s dive in!
Incentive Trip Ideas You Must Know
Options can be endless when planning an incentive trip. The key is to find the right program that fits into the interests and goals of your team. Whether it is adventure, relaxation, or a cultural dip, there is an incentive travel program that will leave its mark.
To get some inspiration, here are a few stand-out examples of group incentive travel programs that offer something unique for any team.
Luxury Beach Vacations
Give your team the ultimate reward-luxurious beach vacations to Cabo, Mexico, or Bali. These trips are purely rest and adventure combined: relaxing in the sun, sitting by the ocean, snorkeling, sailing, and paddleboarding. This is great for rewarding your team while taking a breath in a pretty environment.
Adventure Travel
Adventure travel programs are great for teams that are excited about adventures. Whether it be hiking through national parks, zipping through tropical forests, or white-water rafting in fast-moving rivers, adventure trips bring out the thrill-seeker in everyone. They don’t just offer adrenaline-pumping activities but also foster team bonding in a unique way. Think New Zealand, Costa Rica, or the Canadian Rockies.
Cultural Tours
Take your team on a cultural tour and indulge them in the rich history and tradition of a place they have never visited. This type of program offers the opportunity to explore local landmarks, learn about regional art, and indulge in new food. From ancient ruins in Rome to bright-colored markets in Marrakech to learning the history of temples in Kyoto, cultural tours bring depth, enrichment, and inspiration into an experience.
Wellness Retreats
Wellness retreats are all about resetting the mind and body. A health-and-wellness-focused program enables your team to relax, recharge, and go back to work with fresh eyes. Such wellness retreat programs will include yoga sessions, meditation workshops, spa treatments, and healthy nutrition. Popular wellness destinations such as Bali, the Swiss Alps, or Sedona, Arizona, offer serene environments that enable one to relax and practice self-care.
Outdoor Team-Building Experiences
Outdoor team-building experiences offer a fun and dynamic way to encourage collaboration and teamwork. Whether it’s obstacle courses, survival challenges, or group sports such as beach volleyball and soccer – these programs incorporate physical action with problem-solving done by the group. Events can be held at Lake Tahoe, California, or the Scottish Highlands. These are interactive experiences promoting camaraderie for the team in a refreshing outdoor environment.
City Escapes
City escapes suit teams who love to dive into vivid city scenery. This kind of program offers a mix of cultural awareness, entertainment, and leisure. Teams can be treated to fine dining, world-class museums, and the hustle and bustle of city life. Destinations like New York, Tokyo, or Paris offer the groups an enormous array of activities that range from Broadway theater performances down to Michelin-star restaurants, so everyone will find something for their taste.

Whether you're a solo traveler, a couple, or a family, South Goa Tour Packages are designed to cater to diverse preferences, ensuring a memorable vacation.
Discover the Tranquil Beaches
One of the main highlights of South Goa Tour Packages is the pristine and serene beaches that dot the coastline. Unlike the bustling beaches of North Goa, South Goa offers a more laid-back atmosphere where you can unwind and soak in the natural beauty. Palolem Beach, with its crescent-shaped shoreline and calm waters, is perfect for a relaxing day under the sun. For those seeking a bit more solitude, Agonda Beach offers a peaceful retreat, ideal for meditation or simply enjoying the sound of the waves.
Explore the Rich Cultural Heritage
South Goa is not just about beaches; it’s also steeped in history and culture. South Goa Tour Packages often include visits to some of the region's most significant historical sites. The Cabo de Rama Fort, perched on a cliff overlooking the Arabian Sea, offers stunning views and a glimpse into Goa's colonial past. The Basilica of Bom Jesus and the Se Cathedral, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites, showcase the region's rich religious and architectural history.
A visit to the charming village of Chandor gives you a taste of traditional Goan life. Explore the ancient Menezes Braganza House, a 17th-century mansion that offers a peek into the opulent lifestyle of Goa's colonial elite. These cultural experiences are a must for anyone looking to delve deeper into Goa's heritage.
Enjoy the Local Cuisine
No trip to South Goa is complete without indulging in its delectable cuisine. South Goa Tour Packages often include culinary experiences that allow you to savor the local flavors. From beachside shacks serving fresh seafood to fine-dining restaurants offering Goan delicacies, the options are endless. Don’t miss out on trying dishes like Goan fish curry, prawn balchão, and bebinca, a traditional Goan dessert. For a more immersive experience, consider taking a cooking class where you can learn to prepare these dishes yourself.
Adventure and Wildlife
For adventure enthusiasts, South Goa Tour Packages offer a variety of activities that go beyond just relaxing on the beach. The Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary is a haven for nature lovers, home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including the elusive black panther. Trekking through the Western Ghats, visiting Dudhsagar Waterfalls, or embarking on a spice plantation tour are some of the exciting activities you can include in your itinerary.
For water sports enthusiasts, Palolem Beach offers kayaking, paddleboarding, and even dolphin-spotting tours. These activities add an element of thrill to your otherwise laid-back South Goa experience.
Tailored South Goa Tour Packages
One of the best aspects of South Goa Tour Packages is their flexibility. Whether you want a package focused on relaxation, adventure, or a mix of both, there are options to suit every traveler’s needs. Many tour operators offer customizable packages, allowing you to choose your preferred activities, accommodation, and duration of stay. This ensures that your South Goa experience is tailored to your interests and preferences, making your trip truly unforgettable.
