#the terror#the terror amc#james fitzjames#SDLFKJASLDKFJ james saying the same thing about franklin and francis#except when he said it about franklin he was a different and more foolish person#believing the lie of franklin's beneficent paternalism#(WHILE FRANKLIN IS LITERALLY LOWERING DYING DAVID YOUNG INTO THE ROW BOAT FOR CONVENIENCE SAKE!!!!!)#and then in 1x09 seeing and recognizing and feeling the depths of francis' genuine kindness and love and care for these men#even these men who had done harm to him!!!!!!#!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#do you ever think about how 1x09 is about LOVE and TENDERNESS and how it MATTERS even when DEATH IS CERTAIN#do you ever think about how franklin's paternalism IS the british empire!!!#and scream!!!!!#more than god loves them!! more than queen and country loves them!! sent to die for nothing!!! for a trade route that would never work!#and if they had survived and returned home england would've still killed them!!#would've demanded they lie about their experience court martial-ed for losing the ships sent out again to starve to death for a new venture#did you know that three of the shackleton expedition survivors got home through hell only to turn around and die for england in WWI!!!#this show makes me insane!!!!!!!
