Sorry if this isn't helping but I do think it's worth pointing out that the problem a lot of the time with this is just the tendency to name disorders based on how they annoy doctors/parents instead of what causes them or how it effects the person with them.
Like I've never seen a description of Oppossitional Defiance Disorder that's not obviously just trying to punish children, but Pathological Demand Avoidance always gets put right next to it as equally fake. It IS also used just to punish children, but it's also a legitimate anxiety disorder, and without some name for it to talk about it with I never would've been able to figure out why my executive dysfunction only seemed to get worse and more stressful with methods for treating ADHD.
peopl on here are like don't call someone a piece of shit, it's ableist towards everyone with piece of shit personality disorder, a diagnosis that seems completely reasonable and definitely not designed to stigmatize the patient
#Again sorry I know this isn't the vibe this post was going for but#I always get real twitchy around these conversations because it's real easy to get too swept up and jump straight to#'mental problems don't exist actually' which yeah don't do that#PDA for the record is like a heightened flight/flight/freeze response to being told to do something#the word 'demand' here needs to be understood very broadly as like 'literally anything anyone including you vaguely suggests needs doing'#someone asking you to hold their drink for a second or like telling yourself you already got the word doc open you should start typing#being interpreted as an immediate threat to the self because you're not in complete control of the situation#with obviously bigger demands or demands without clear reason or you just being young being more likely to create bigger reactions
