Okay! So, the endings I got in BG3. Putting them under a cut so I don't accidentally spoil anyone:
Tumblr media
Orpheus got turned. I didn't want to turn my Tav into a mindflayer- especially since I didn't upgrade my tadpole at ALL during this run- and I definitely wasn't turning Karlach, so the prince was my only choice. And I'm glad I did- I got a damn good heroic sacrifice plotline, and his mindflayer form is RIDICULOUSLY overpowered.
This bit of dialogue I got right before freeing him was funny:
Tumblr media
Also Raphael you SON OF A BITCH:
Tumblr media
Symbolic drawings, etched over a forgotten text. Two figures, one an imposing female with a regal aspect, the other, a Devil, his face twisted with wry charm. Their hands meet in the exchange of an artefact- the Astral Prism.
IT WAS ALL YOUR FUCKING FAULT. I'M GLAD YOU SLIPPED ON ICE AND HOPE GOT TO KILL YOU.
Speaking of Orpheus:
Tumblr media
Lae'zel became the leader of the Githyanki rebellion, with a silver sword and a sweet red dragon! I also gave her the Githyanki egg:
Tumblr media
She now has an adopted son named Xan. Awwwwww.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Karlach & Wyll went to Avernus together, and MAN I thought I fucked this one up for a hot minute. After Karlach had her heartwrenching breakdown after we killed Gortash, I panicked a little and looked up how to get her happiest ending. I was relieved that I had already locked in Karlach's good end by nudging Wyll to become the Blade of Avernus.
....and then she started burning up on the docks and the scene just kept going and going without any dialogue choices and I was like OH NO I MESSED UP SHE'S GONNA DIE. The RELIEF I felt when Wyll spoke up- MAN.
Tumblr media
I high-key ship them now, btw. I love wholesome battle couples okay!! Oh, and:
Tumblr media
GET MIZORA'S ASS WYLL, SHE SUCKS.
Tumblr media
I was lowkey thinking of changing Wyll's class to ranger in my next playthrough, so thank you, Larian, for justifying that future decision
Tumblr media
The one who got away, Shadowheart! The platonic hug is so freaking cute.
Tumblr media
She now has a cute woodland cottage with her parents and five million animals- annnnnd the owlbear:
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Best girl gets best floofball
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Halsin runs an orphanage in the no-longer-Shadow-Cursed lands, and yeah. That totally suits him.
Tumblr media
Gale's new job as a professor in Illusion Magic suits him as well. I was a little worried I would get a negative ending after I encouraged him to leave the crown in the sea, but nope! The orb is inert, he has a job he loves, and he didn't go back to his shitty ex. Yay!
Tumblr media
Jaheira is busy assisting the rebuilding efforts in Balder's Gate, along with her children.
Tumblr media
Minsc is... busy being Minsc
Tumblr media
Minthara is plotting to topple Lolth with other drow rebels in the Underdark, and I could have CLAPPED when she said that, because:
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
I PICKED THE OPTION TO LEAD THE RELEASED VAMPIRE SPAWN IN THE UNDERDARK WITH ASTARION. Minthara's rebellion will have a unit comprised of vampires in my game's timeline, yes indeed.
Basically, I got happy-ish endings for everyone, despite thinking I had screwed up some of the routes. And I'm glad! As Astarion puts it:
Tumblr media
A few more things:
Tumblr media
This made me chuckle. I'm also going to ignore Scratch's canon ending- he was my Tav's familiar, that means he is HER dog, okay.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I just thought this was a nice easter egg
Tumblr media
HE'S FUCKING JERGAL?? WITHERS??? HOW DID I MISS THIS. HOW.
...love that he's dunking on the Dead Three. You tell em, bone man!

notable lyrics.
1.  There is a house way down in New Orleans / They call the Rising Sun/And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy / And God I know I'm one 2.  Future outcasts and they don't last / And, today, the people dress the way that they please/ The way they tried to do in the last centuries 3.  And you'll ask yourself / Where is my mind? / Where is my mind? 4. Ask me if I'm happy / I don't care / Maybe I'd be happy if you give me drugs / Ask me if I'm happy / What does it mean? 5. "Run, run, Lost Boy", they say to me / "Away from all of reality" / Neverland is home to Lost Boys like me 6. And the boys always call, and the girls do too / Because in my world, I'm constantly, constantly havin' a breakthrough / Or a breakdown, or a blackout / Would you make out with me underneath the shelter of the balcony? /  'Cause I don't need anyone, I don't need anyone / I just need everyone and then some 7.  Dreamers are selfish / When it all comes down to it / I hope one of you come back to remind me of who I was / When I go disappearing / Into that good night 8.  I feel like no one wants me/ And I hate the way I'm perceived / I only have two real friends / And lately, I'm a nervous wreck /  'Cause I love people I don't like / And I hate every song I write / And I'm not cool and I'm not smart 9. Don't let those demons in again / I fill the void up with polished doubt, fake sentiment / Surrender yourself 10. Drunken in Seattle / Two more Xans and without a paddle / I don't remember your face / Or your hair, or your name, or your smile  11. The world is a curse, it'll kill if you let it / I know they got pills that can help you forget it / They bottle it, call it medicine 12. Memories tend to just pop up / Drunk pre-meds and some rubber gloves / Five thousand people with designer drugs / Don't think I'll ever get enough 13. I wanna prove my love before I leave / I wanna make you come and scrape my knees / Want you to bite my tongue until I bleed / And you can put these fucking words in my obituary 14. Maybe I need therapy / Maybe we need less of me / I will make myself smaller before / Completely Exploding / Maybe I should get some sleep / Cause i’m Godless Lawless & non-monogamous 15. Just take my hand and we'll abandon this world / We'll wash those tears away / You're young and beautiful, and I'll love you always / We got no time for pain / When it's just you and me in ecstasy 16. Don't want cash, don't want card / Want it fast, want it hard / Don't need money, don't need fame / I just want to make a change / I just wanna change 17. The happiest I've been's at a party / Wasted with my friends and why not / We die, then it's over / So fuck being sober 18. Oh, you clever little things / The sycophantic teens / What a precious basket case / Now shut your dirty mouth / If I could burn this town / I wouldn't hesitate 19. To the ones who never left me, we've been down this road before / I'm so sorry, I'm not sober anymore 20. I'll stay in the pool and drown / So I don't have to watch you leave / I put on Survivor just to watch somebody suffer / Maybe I should get some sleep 21. The truth is I am a toy that people enjoy / 'Til all of the tricks don't work anymore / And then they are bored of me  22. I caught a fleeting glimpse / Out of the corner of my eye / I turned to look but it was gone / I cannot put my finger on it now / The child is grown / The dream is gone / I have become comfortably numb

You Know I'm No Good - four
First Day
Warnings: mentions of drugs and alcohol, mentions of sex
Tumblr media
don't call me kid, don't call me baby, look at this godforsaken mess that you made me
Tallulah was the first one awake in the morning, the sunrise just peeking through her blinds as she laid in bed on her side, staring at the wall. She struggled to get back to sleep and tossed and turned, feeling an uncomfortable pit in her stomach that she decided had something to do with it being her first day at La Push Tribal School.
Starting a new school in the second semester of her senior year did not bother her as much as it should have, what concerned her more was that she was walking into a school that never gets new students, let alone mid semester. All eyes were going to be on her, and she was sure that some of them had already conjured up their own preconceived notions of her. Oh the joys of small town gossip, she thought to herself as she climbed out of bed, grabbing her clothes for the day. She told herself that making friends was not a must here, because as soon as she graduates she will be back in Seattle with her old, real friends, living the life that she wants to live. She could let herself be picky, or else she’ll end up with a Josie, who seems trustworthy on the outside, but isn’t in the end. Tallulah rolled her eyes at the thought itself, if that's how she wants to be then so be it.
Tallulah quickly changed into her black tank and oversized flannel shirt, before pulling on her jeans, she tried to tame her hair without ruining her natural waves into a frizzy mess. She wasn't one for much makeup, especially not for school considering the frequent rain on pacific northwest.
Rushing downstairs to the kitchen, the uncomfortable pit curbing her appetite, Tallulah settled on just coffee, as she poured it into her mug she had grabbed from the cupboard, she heard footsteps entering the kitchen. Glancing over her shoulder, she saw Lenna out of the corner of her eye, all dolled up as if she were going to Paris Fashion Week.
“I heard about what Josie did.” Lenna stated as she searched through the fridge, “you’ll get used to it.” This made Tallulah scoff audibly, “get used to being thrown under the bus for doing absolutely nothing wrong beside talking to some guy I’ve never even met before yesterday?” she asked sarcastically, turning to face her younger sister, mug in hand. “No, well, yes. It just means she did something she doesn’t want to get in trouble for, so she throws gasoline on someone else's fire to make it seem bigger than the one she started.” She keeps her eye on the tall, raven-haired girl as she closes the door, “She means well Tally.” I bet, she thought to herself. Maybe this is what sisters do, and she's the one that's being unreasonable. To be fair, she's never had to deal with someone snitching right in front of her face to her mother. At least she had the guts to do it at the dinner table.
She watched as Lenna looked over her outfit, making a face that Tallulah couldn’t quite comprehend, “is there something wrong with my outfit?” she asked, eyebrows raised in challenge. Lenna shook her head, “Nope, not at all. Between that, the tattoos and the nicotine addiction, I’d say you’ll fit right in with a few groups at school. I can point them out if you’d like, I heard dad tossed your vape maybe you can snag one today.” Tallulah shook her head before taking a sip of her cooling coffee, “I can make my own friends, and I’m not addicted” she fought the urge to roll her eyes again as their dad walked into the kitchen, clearly dressed for work. “Tally, Lenny, ready for school? Dakota picked up your sister already this morning, something about a project that's not finished yet” the short laugh that came from Lenna did not go unnoticed by Tallulah, but she said nothing, nodding her head at her fathers question. “I have to go to a tribal meeting tonight with Kira, so it’s going to be pizza for dinner, Lenny can pick it up on her way home from work, right Len?” he asked as he filled his to-go mug with coffee, even though he really wasn't asking, “Tal,” he said, looking directly at his eldest daughter, “I know this has been a big change in just a few days, but you’re doing great kid, but let's keep those rules in mind when making friends today,” clearly referring to something she has no clue about. “So, you mean I can’t skip school and sneak Paul through my window while you’re gone?” she joked half heartedly. She had no intention of ever speaking to him today, but seeing the looks on Lenna and their dad's face was probably the best start to her day she was going to get. She finished off her coffee and placed her mug in the sink, grabbing her book bag from the counter and heading to the front door, yelling ‘kidding!’ over her shoulder as she left, while her dad yelled ‘have fun!’ right back at her.
Tallulah drove in silence to the school, following the directions Josie had shown her during their day out, for once wanting to be early. She wanted to scope out all her classrooms beforehand to minimize the amount of interaction she would have to have with anyone in order to just keep her head down and float by as unnoticed as she could.
As she pulled into the small parking lot there were very few students and teachers mulling around. The school itself was small, only two stories, with a few portables that were quite run down. Nothing like her old school of 5000 students, every hallway crowded and parking lot full every day.
Tallulah parked her car and pulled out her phone from her pocket, checking the few messages she had, despite it only being 8 in the morning. One message was from her mom, wishing her well on her first day, telling her she had shipped the rest of her personal belongings that she may want or need and that she loved her. Tallulah rolled her eyes, she loved her so much she didn’t want to deal with her anymore. She checked some more of her messages and replied to those that warranted them only stopping as the incoming call notification lit up her screen.
A photo of Lina, her best friend, and her graced the screen, she quickly hit accept before placing the phone to her ear, breathing out a quickie ‘hello’. The two haven’t been able to have a conversation in days to discuss the tragedy that had unfolded the night her mom caught her sneaking into her bedroom, the dramatic gasp on the other line made her smile, “You picked up!” Lina all but shouted excitedly, before saying to someone else ‘told you she would’, clearly she wasn’t alone. “Of course I did, Li. Just because I've been shipped off to the middle of nowhere doesn’t mean I dropped out of school.” she said looking at the tiny building, that more students were now filing into. “Besides, I always answer your calls.” she stated, which made Lina laugh into the phone, “Right, right. Well I was just calling to see how you were, Kits here too.” she said and she could hear Kit bid a hello in the background, “and we wanted to invite you to this party that's happening at some club in Port Angeles next Friday. We figured it would give you some time to ask your dad if you can come or plan an escape. He can’t keep you from us forever.” she rambled, clearly excited.
She knew what club she was talking about, they had been planning on going once they had all turned 18. As exciting as it sounded, she knew her dad would never go for it, and sneaking out to Port Angeles and back would be next to impossible. “I don’t know about that, Li, but I'll try. I’m sure I could convince him to let you guys come out here if he doesn’t budge?” she asked absentmindedly, hoping she’d take the bait. Tallulah listened as Lina talked to someone away from the speaker before hearing the phone be passed to someone new, she furrowed her brows at the silence before the new speaker breathed out, “Luie.”
Xander.
The only person on planet earth who was allowed to call her ‘Luie’. The nickname started with him and ended with him. She hated the nickname when he had first started using it, he would say it in such a condescending way. Like he was reprimanding a child, but it grew on her as her relationship with him developed. They had never dated, but everyone assumed they were with how touchy-feely they were with each other. But, they both hated commitment, saying that it was the root of all sadness, and they had enough of that in their life already. As if that stopped them from hurting each other anyways. Xander was all of her firsts, first friend, first kiss, first time drinking alcohol with him, first cigarette, first time sneaking out, and first hookup. It's why she always went back to him after a fight, no matter how bad it was, all her good memories are tied to him.
“Hey, Xan” she said softly, “Are you coming to Port Angeles for the party?” he asked in a nonchalant tone, knowing she could never say no to him. “I want to..” she started, “But no promises. My dads a lot stricter compared to my mom.” Tallulah heard him grunt in acknowledgment. He wasn’t going to beg, or plead her to come like Kit or Lina would, he knew he didn’t have to. “Well, let us know, ya?” he stated, voices in the background signaled that they were most likely getting ready to take the train to school, like she would be in normal circumstances. “Oh, and Luie, have a don’t do anything I wouldn’t do on your first day.” she could practically hear the grin that she knew he had before the line went dead, he wasn’t much for formal goodbyes.
Sighing, she shoved her phone in her pocket before exiting her car, grabbing her bag off of the passenger seat and slinging it over her shoulder. She made sure to lock the car before placing her keys in her bag and grabbing her timetable as she walked towards the entrance of the school. She was too busy trying to figure out what classroom she needed to head to first that she wasn’t paying any attention to any of her surroundings. Hence why she walked head on into someone, dropping the white sheet of paper in the process. Hot hands steadying her by the arms. It felt as if she had walked straight into a brick wall, she would’ve laughed it off if it wasn’t the root of all her problems so far in La Push.
“Are you stalking me?” she asked the older man, everywhere she went, there he was. Paul shook his head with a chuckle, causing the teen to glare up at him. “Well aren’t you a little too old to be hanging around a high school?” she questioned, arms crossing over her body as the heat from his hands had made her realize just how cold it was outside once they were off of her. “Relax, I was just dropping someone off.” he stated, his voice was deeper than it was the day before, like he had just woken up. She averted her eyes from him as she could feel the blush heat to her face at how silly she must have sounded. Of course that's why he's here. She hadn’t realized he had picked up her schedule for her until he read out a name from it, “First period: Miss. Young. You’ll like her, everyone does.” he said while handing her back the slip. She nodded her head, “right, well i should go find her class then.” she mumbled as she took a step back from him, he responded by giving her the directions to the class, which made her want to question how he knew that but Tallulah wasn’t sure if she wanted to know the answer, so instead, she thanked him and walked away heading towards the front doors, each step closer she filled more and more with dread, wanting to turn around and get in her car and drive away as far as she could.
She turned back to where she had left Paul standing to see him still there, only now he was talking on the phone. His whole demeanor had changed, he looked rigid and frustrated. Before she turned to completely walk through the doors, he caught her eye and gave her a small smile, the feeling of dread dissipating in that moment as she entered her new school.

movie night;
rating: general
pairing: martin blackwood x xandyr jameson
words: 2273
summary: i sat down and said "i'm gonna write martin and xandyrs first kiss" and what i actually wrote is 2200 words of pining with one paragraph about kissing. #oops
----------x----------
It's hard to pinpoint exactly when Xan fell in love with Martin, in the same way it's hard to pinpoint the exact moment the sun rises in the morning. The more he thinks about it, all the most natural things in the universe seem to happen that way- in the spaces between blinks, when you aren't exactly paying attention.
Martin's makeshift bedroom smells like old papers and discarded academia, just like the rest of the Institute- and yet it's weaker here. Overshadowed by lemons and tea and raw sunshine. Xan fidgets, nervous- sometimes he cannot help but think that he is polluting this space just by being here. That it's an act of pure selfishness that he's here almost every night anyway. Stacks of unfiled something-or-other forms litter the floor of the dimly lit room, some with old rings from discarded cups of tea where he's clearly been using them as makeshift desks.
Xan swallows hard- his mouth is dry, his heart racing. He's considering leaving- considering telling Martin he's had an emergency and that he has to leave him alone in this dark, depressing place for the night. It'd hurt him in the moment, sure, and he'd hate himself for the look of shattering that would pass over his soft, round features- but it wouldn't hurt him as much in the long run, as much as if he found out the truth about him.
At least- that's what he tells himself. But like everything else about him, it's a lie. If he left.... leaving would be even more selfish than staying. Martin needs someone, now- and in his more extreme flights of fancy, he can sometimes delude himself into thinking that someone might be him.
Light floods into the room from outside as the door opens- Martin smiles at him, all freckles and white teeth and fluorescents reflecting joyfully off his round glasses, and Xan would swear on all the things that were holy the light was coming directly from him. Had he really been thinking about leaving just a second ago? He's pushing a small cart with an ancient TV atop it, sitting squatly on the haunches of an equally-as-ancient VHS player. And of course- two cups of tea, adorning either side of the cart like decorations. Underneath is a tray of cupcakes, on top of a stack of assorted tapes- had he made them or bought them? Xan doesn't think he would care if he was trying to poison him with them.
"S-sorry I'm so late! I thought, well- it's a bit boring in here, with nothing to really uh, do-" He rubs the back of his neck, sheepish, "So I thought we could, er- put on a movie or two! I mean, if you want. If not, well, I could take it back, or-"
Xan shakes his head rapidly in denial- not because he cares particularly whether or not they put on a movie, but because he doesn't want him to leave. "A few movies sounds....nice. As long as they aren't, uh...cursed videotapes, o-or something. Knowing this place...." His attempt at humor falls only a bit flat as blue eyes go wide behind thick frames- as if Martin himself was just now considering that the Institute might house cursed videotapes. Xan can't help but laugh a little at the owlish expression. Martin's eyes narrow playfully.
"Havin' a laugh at me, are you? Cheeky bugger," a laugh shakes his broad shoulders, "Keep it up and I won't share any of these cupcakes!"
Xan knows hes bluffing in the same instant he knows he won't call him on it- sharing is to Martin what breathing is to most other people. It might actually kill him to eat a full tray of cupcakes while someone watched. He messily pantomimes zipping his lips closed in a way he hopes looks natural, although he can feel he's still smiling. The door closes behind Martin as he hands him his cup of tea, still steaming hot, and turns to the old television, flipping it on and lighting up the room in a bright blue. Xan sips his tea as he watches him fiddle with the dials and controls. Luckily for them both, it seems like the VHS player is already pre-hooked up to the television.
"What kind of movies do you like?" The question catches him off guard, makes his heart beat faster out of anxiety as opposed to anything pleasant. It occurs to him that he has no answer for this question- he can't even remember if he's ever seen a film before.
"Ah- All kinds! I-it is your room! We should watch, uh..whatever... whatever you want!" It's said too quickly, with a layer of fear that's hard to shake, but Martin doesn't seem to notice. Instead he's looking at him like he's given him a gift- his heart stops all together, twists like it's being wrung out.
"Whatever I want? Really?"
This man is going to be the death of him.
Xan nods as he sips his tea, even though it burns his mouth a bit. It's something to do with his mouth besides further dig himself into a hole, in any case. "Whatever you want!"
"O-okay! But don't... laugh, alright?" He pulls a VHS out of the stack underneath the cupcakes, and displays it for him to see- on the front cover of the box, an attractive women is in a loving embrace with an attractive man. The blurbs on the box promote it as being "heartwarming" and "the love story of our generation". He doesn't laugh, but he does smile- has he stopped smiling since Martin came in the room? He thinks it should start to hurt at some point, being this happy, but it never does- not his face, anyway, and not while it's happening. It's so typically the kind of thing Martin might watch that he feels like he could have guessed, when presented with the stack.
"I know, I know, it's a...well. A bit of a ladies picture, but..." His face flushes a high enough pink to be visible even through the cerulean light of the television that slants over his features. Xandyr's tea shakes in his hands and he has to drink another long sip to make sure it doesn't spill. It tastes sweet on his tongue, like syrup and honey, so cloying it threatens to choke him- just the way he likes it. "It's one of my favorites! I- I promise it's quite good!"
He trusts him implicitly, with a lot more than their choice of movies to watch- a knife through his chest, reminding him what he's doing is wrong. Martin cannot trust him implicitly in turn- there is nothing within him to be trusted in.
Martin pops the movie into the VHS player, which makes a whirring sound as if it is oh-so-put-upon by the task of having to do its job. For all Xan knows, it might be. It looks older than both of them put together. But it accepts the movie, beginning to play previews and coming soon featurettes that look much crisper than he expected they would. A warmth against his thigh snaps him out of staring at the TV screen- Martin has sat down next to him on his bed, a cup of tea in hand and the tray of cupcakes placed across both of their laps, and in the space underneath it their legs are touching.
Xandyr reaches for a cupcake. They're frosted through a spectrum of greens- dark and light and pale pastel. It reminds him of his other life, of light through the trees and moss on the trunks. Of being hunted and hunting in turn. Of falling asleep in bars of sunlight. He shoves it into his mouth, again too fast, and after he has made far too much of an embarrassing show of chewing and swallowing the whole thing at the same time he realizes that Martin is staring at him expectantly, a nervous and excited air about him that shimmers in bright blue eyes, so so close to his face now- too close.
Not close enough.
"What- What do you think?"
"I think I love y-" Xandyr bites his tongue, hard enough that he can taste blood even through thick frosting. What had he almost said? Holy shit. "I, ahaha, think I love them! I mean, I know! I do! Love them! Great cupcakes, Martin, really!"
"If you don't like them, that's-"
"No, I really do! I swear!" He makes a show out of taking another one, taking a bite this time instead of shoving it into his face like the wild animal he only barely feels like he still isn't. Martin's expression becomes unguarded all at once, that smile settling in place over his features again. Up this close, Xandyr can see every individual freckle that dots his cheeks, the stubble that lines his jawline where he hasn't shaved lately. He has to stop looking at him- has to- he feels like he's bound to be blinded any second now, like staring at something so perfect has to have far-reaching cosmic consequences- but all at once he understands why so many societies worshiped the sun and burned out their eyes in devotion to it.
In the end, Martin turns away from him, facing the TV screen that's now 5 or so minutes into the movie he had put in. He unwraps a cupcake, taking a bite, and makes a sound analogous to a hum, and Xandyr finishes off his own and follows him in repeating the process.
30 or so minutes in, teacups are pushed aside, emptied of their contents. Martin's leg is still touching his own under the tray. The cupcakes serve as a pleasant distraction- if he doesn't distract himself, he's sure he'll lose his mind. He nibbles at them, making them last. The man and the woman onscreen have clear chemistry- at least, he thinks they do. What would he know about it, other than that he wants to see them together?
About an hour. The couple is on a date. Love shines in their eyes. He couldn't tell anyone how they got there if his life depended on it- Martin's shoulder is pressed against his own now, sucking the breaths from his lungs. With the exception of laying down to sleep at night, they've never been this close. It feels.. different. More... intentional. More significant. Like a declaration of something it couldn't be.
Xan reaches for another cupcake, another distraction, but is intercepted by warmth under his fingertips instead, by an electric shock that jerks his head towards Martin like it was on a swivel. He's looking at him again, and he can tell by the look on his face that he felt that too. Xandyr feels heat rush to his face and dread stir in his stomach. It felt so good- better than anything he had ever felt. He couldn't have any more of it. He so desperately wanted more of it. Martin is looking at him like...
Like he wants more, too.
It's impossible, isn't it? And even if it wasn't impossible... even if the feeling that pours from blue eyes and washes over him like warm rain is genuine- he shouldn't, can't encourage it. It'd be unforgivable, to encourage him to fall into a void.
And yet.....
"Martin..." He whispers, and it is as much a plea as it is a warning and a confession. Don't come any closer. Please come closer. I'm going to hurt you. I would never hurt you. I love you. Run away.
Their fingers are locked together- when did that happen? Why does it feel like they were made to? His head swims with dizzy sensation.
He leans in, artless, uncoordinated- he's never kissed anyone before but all he can think about is Martin's lips, parted as they are with the weight of longing. He can feel his breath, can taste it in the air, sweet like frosting and then some, and he is so, so close-
"Wait, wait wait wait!" Martin pulls away with a panicky tint to his voice, and Xan is sure for a heart shattering, relief filled moment that he's done something wrong. That Martin will never speak to him again. It's what's best for him. He can't stand the thought of it.
But he simply slips his round glasses down off the edge of his nose, folding them and placing them safely by his empty teacup, and smiles that beatific smile, leaning back in close.
"Didn't want them to- ah- to get in the way..." For the second time tonight, his tone and mannerisms are sheepish.
Xan can't help himself- the distance between them disappears in a flash, mouths melding together in a mingling of sugar so sweet it makes his teeth ache and his chest ache and his stomach hurt. This is the pain he was waiting for; It's the best pain he's ever felt. His traitor hand combs through fluffy, soft blonde hair, catching on the hair pretty holding his ponytail in and combing it out effortlessly- and to his own surprise, a hand winds into his own hair, pulling at him feverishly. Kissing Martin is all he imagined it would be- soft and gentle curves melding to him in all the right ways, with an edge of what he didn't expect- a desperation to him that mirrors his own.
What he's done, what he's doing, is unforgivable- it flutters through his bloodstream, alternating lighter than air butterflies and the crushing weight of a hundred lead balloons.
He'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Salem watched as a few of the students were launched into the forest ahead of her. She had spent all night going over her options. First, and foremost, was Ruby. That was the whole reason for this operation: get close to Ruby and take her away from Ozpin. She didnt care how she did it, just as long as Ozpin couldnt have her. Maybe even recruit her, unlike her mother.
Next on the list was that heiress, Weiss. Those glyphs she could use were very similar to her own, which made the brat complimentary to her. It would also help to be able to teach the girl how to truly harness the power that she possessed, thanks to one of her ancestors being one of Salem’s children. Or at least, adopted children.
The rest of the students werent exactly minion material. Aurora Glade had a bit of potential, but seemed to be a bit of a wild card. No one knew much about her, so she wasnt able to get as much information as she could. Nora Valkyrie seemed like a decent ally, but with the way she seemed to be joined to the hip with that boy of hers….
Salem’s gaze stopped at Pyrrha Nikos, one of the few students that could prove to be problematic to this whole situation. For someone that has been in the public eye for so long, it was strange that no one knew much about it. Her semblance was still a mystery, not that Salem cared much about such a power. As far as she was concerned, this humanity was inferior to her own. They cant use magic, rely on these so-called semblances to give them power… and the only reason they’ve started giving her issues is due to this dust they use. Not that they understand what they’re using is just crystalized magic from the old world.
It wasnt long before Salem was launched in the air, making sure she kept herself in check to not give herself away. Careful bursts of magic here and there to control her descent so she wouldnt have to give away her only secret. The last thing she wanted was to let anyone know about her immortality. Ozma would certainly be starting to suspect something about now anyway. The longer she could keep her cover-
Salem felt someone slam down on top of her, gravity suddenly starting to feel a bit heavier on her. “What do you think you’re doing?!”
“Oh, you’re just one of the students. Thought you were a grimm for a moment.” The dust inside of Aurora quit glowing as gravity started returning to normal around her. “Saw a trail of black behind you and figured a nevermore would be the perfect fight.”
Salem slowly picked herself up, moving her cloak a bit so Aurora wouldnt see part of her body start to reform. “And when you realized I was too small to be one?”
Aurora shrugged and started walking off. “Fighting another student doesnt sound like a bad idea either. Although, when I landed on you, something just… didnt seem right.”
Salem rolled her eyes, glad her body had finished reforming as Aurora turned around. “Just stay out of my way.”
Aurora grinned for a moment as her eyes locked onto Salem’s. “Actually, according to the rules, we’re partners now.”
Salem glared and started walking towards the relics, muttering under her breath. “Ozma, I’m going to kill you for this…”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sitri relaxed in a tree for a moment, waiting for one of the ursa to get closer. All she had to do was focus… A gunshot rang through the air as the ursa fell over and started disappearing into a black mist. Sitri jumped out of her hiding spot, groaning. “I almost had that!”
Xanthic slowly moved out of the underbrush, putting her gun away. “And you werent quick enough.”
“Well, since we’re both here, guess that makes us partners. I’m Sitri by the way. You’re Ashely, right?”
Xanthic glared at Sitri for a moment. “Xan. You only get to call me Xan.”
Sitri nodded slowly, nervously rubbing the back of her head. “R-right. W-well, since we’re partners, guess that means we should start finding those relics.”
“Already found those. Was just on my way to where they’re at when I found you hiding from a grimm.”
“I wasnt hiding! I was going to trap it!”
Xan grinned for a moment and started walking towards the relics. “Looked like hiding to me.”
Sitri frowned, the roots from the nearby tree starting to move around her for a moment. She stopped herself and sighed. “Not today Sitri. You’re here to be a huntress and to make friends. Not start fights.” She started following Xan, running a bit to catch up. “Dont get too far! We’re supposed to be partners!”
“Then dont keep me waiting!” Xanthic yelled back.

hey y’all ! i’m jia and i’m super excited for opening; i have two super clingy cats in case any of you ever need a visual pick-me-up, i’m a uni student in canada and a big skincare and dark chocolate junkie, more than likely gonna be typing replies while indulging in either jsyk !
tried to keep it short since i’m a rambly bitch, but xan’s basic stats and a proper wc page will be up soon as i just got home from grocery shopping and we open in an hour as of typing this, the theme as a whole will get a refresh eventually and i’ll be posting a little tracklist for her playlist later ! and if tumblr ims are as much of a nuisance for you as they can be for me, you can add me on d*scord at genuinely sick of this shit#2030 if you’d like to plot ! anyways, without further ado:
( samantha logan , cis female , she/her, twenty-four ) omg ! i was walking yonge street downtown , and you’ll never guess who i saw . xanthe lowe ! i just saw a post about them on sixsecrets ! i think it said something like “ when they go high, she goes lowe ! xan spotted leaving a gala with her former friend’s ex, after last week’s reportedly tense exchange between the girls ” . isn’t that wild ? i guess it makes sense through , since they’re apparently merciless and imperious . but i’ve heard they’re also conspicuous and astute ! i’ll just stick to giving them the benefit of the doubt . i mean , it’s not like i know them personally — they’re a famous socialite ! you know , i’ve actually heard rumors that redacted , but they’re just rumors … i think . i dunno . if you happen to run into them , tell them i’m their biggest fan !
tw: drug mention
when i tell you that i have so many muse posts i’m holding back on for this bitch —
which, btw, will all slowly see the light of day soon enough bc god knows i can’t articulate my muses’ personalities as well as i’d like so that shit makes up for it fdgslk
her parents’ eldest child together, xanthe’s also the oldest out of her and her siblings
also, never call her xanthe. friend or otherwise, don’t take the risk dklgsjdlk
grew up with a silver spoon, her dad being a wall street giant and her mother being an entrepreneur with a love for art ( so much so that her two partners after separating from xan’s dad were artists themselves sdlkgj )
thus she split her time between toronto and manhattan even before her parents’ divorce, she merely spent more time jetting back and forth for special occasions and vacations compared to when her parents were still together
mind you, she was probably still in the single digits when that became a new normal for the brat
basically could’ve been a main character on gossip girl with her reckless antics and partying as a teenager…. and now, even sgdlkf
drk how to elaborate on that, aside from stressing that from her teen years onward she’s presented her own take of a rich bitch, and is a socialite/fashion week regular type if i were to describe where she stands rn
i think a good mix of references would be nicky hilton meets the delevingne sisters meets blair waldorf and sabrina pemberton’s lovechild
she attended an ivy league at the behest of her father so he had at least one child who could take a senior position in his company simply to keep it in the family
.. before he realized what a Mistake™ it would be to put that responsibility on xan and now has her slightly older cousin as a backup instead GDSLFJKS but nonetheless !
isn’t the most studious person, but she somehow wound up graduating with a major in communications and a marketing minor
she reasoned that, with her reputation in the gta and nyc, she’d need the bit of knowledge in how to clean up her messes. even if she wasn’t the one who had that responsibility
though.. the entire time has been spent sleeping with some of her rich friends, drinking and smoking pot, with the occasional hit of whatever clean enough drug that one of her friends had on them
as of now, she’s pissing off her neighbours with her house parties wherever she might be at a given time, staying in the good graces of the media as a budding, fun yet classy heiress — despite doing dumb shit the second she’s inside of a gala or club
uhhh ik i had something else to add but a quick break for dinner messed that up, rip LKGFSJD
personality and shit
her little blurb on my indie is: refined party girl still set in her ways with her future left uncompromised; detached and pretentious, she soaks up the attention that continues to roll in
which. we’ve basically been over already lkdfsg but still
if i were to use a label to describe her, she’d be the sovereign
she’s messy as hell, but puts on the façade of a poised woman who has some fun because she knows it bodes well
she’s not a complete dick per se, but she can be snide and boastful
big superiority complex, independent and lives lavishly with reckless abandon
probably jets back and forth between nyc and the gta as it’s her version of normal, so ig she hates the environment if it means not having things go her way !
non-committal as all hell and will abandon girl code if she drops you fgkljfs
.. fr, she’ll fuck an ex-friend’s ex if she technically saw them first, so being spiteful and resolving some past attraction ?? right up her alley !
hence the choice of headline gdfslkj
keeps her true inner circle small, but gets off on attention and likes to stay cordial with some people, so she’s got quite a few friends all the same
she’ll fight tooth and nail to protect her image and won’t hesitate to throw anyone under the bus to do so/in retaliation if they screw her over
which happens to mean that her family is to be protected as well. fuck with any of her sisters ?? you’re done ! try to call out one of her brothers on twitter ? she’ll quote it with a single clown emoji as a warning
there really isn’t much to expand on tbh, though i will say that her emboldened nature and need for a good time however she can get it comes out more than her uglier side ( except her vanity. that’ll never go away ksfdg )
some quick plot ideas
a childhood friend or two that she made in either of her main hubs or through events she attended when she was young, whether they’re still friends or not for x reasons can be discussed of course
could carry over into a trio type of thing depending on where she stands with either of them, or they’re a different couple of pals she’s made in the last few years
enemies are always fun ! probably rooted in a competitive streak more than anything else but i’m all ears for a more complex reason
ex-hookup(s), current hookup(s), throw it all at me klgfjd
a hateship/ewb would be fun with her too, oh my god sfdgklj
it should go without saying that they are all relatively wealthy or well-connected kids here, but that doesn’t mean that someone who’s using her for their fifteen seconds of fame, or just to get some perks out of their friendship, is necessarily a write-off — not that she cares too much about fake friends, face value hype and knowing they need her more than she needs them gives her too much satisfaction fkskgls
an ex-something, open to anyone. either someone her parents forced on her to straighten her out that she wound up liking…. after a good period of her telling them to fuck off sdglk or someone she’d been seeing for a while at her own accord. would’ve ended the same way: with her calling it off because she didn’t want to settle down, not even for a relationship ( and perhaps bc she’s scared of commitment with her cracked family dynamic that’s been a thing since age two, but that’s another story jsdfkg )

POWERSLIDE
WHO: @dumbofassjoey & @angel-alexanderr (mentions of frankie, jake and marley)
WHERE: puckerman household
WHEN: friday, december 4th
WHAT: Joey goes over to the Puckerman household to apologize to Xan, ends up having dinner with the Puckermans and then talks to Xan.
JOEY: Joey didn’t really expect for this night to turn out the way that it did, but for some reason, it did. After two weeks of being suspended and grounded, Joey was finally free (at least to some extent, he still had a curfew), so he decided to go over to the Puckerman’s household, somewhere he was familiar with and had been tons of times, not only with Frankie, but also Xan. The reason he was there was pretty obvious, he wanted to apologize to Xan – the two weren’t on best terms right now and Joey was kind of tired of it. He was tired of being angry and mad at people, so he decided he should change that. As soon as he arrived there, he knocked on the door and was hoping for Xan to open, but was surprised when he saw Marley on the other side. The next thing he knew, he had been invited to have dinner with the Puckerman family – Joey felt a little weird and he mostly talked to Frankie and Marley, sharing looks with Jake and Xan from time to time.
Once everyone was done with dinner, Joey and Xan made their way upstairs to Xan’s room – another place Joey was familiar with, but it was a place that Joey had grown to like and it was for the best if they talked there. Once they were alone, Joey turned around to look at Xan with a small smile, before nodding his head slowly. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to come over for dinner, I just… wanted to talk to you. But at least, your mom is nice! And so is your dad, but it didn’t seem like he really wanted me here.” He said with a small nod. “I’m sorry.” He just blurted out, before shrugging his shoulders – he didn’t know what else to say.
XAN: Xan wasn’t normally the biggest fan of family dinners. He felt like his mother purposefully put extra food on his plate. Maybe it was his own anxiety, but he felt like everyone around him was watching him take every bite. Worse, lately family dinners just reminded him that in a few months they’d be happening without Frankie. But tonight was going pretty well so far, the mood was pretty light. Xan was helping his dad set the table when there was a knock on the door. Seconds later, Joey was suddenly part of a Puckerman family dinner. Xan mostly spent the meal stuffing his face to avoid talking to Joey, making accidental eye contact with him, and getting up to use the bathroom (just to scream).
After dinner Xan and Joey walked into Xan’s room. He didn’t really care about his mom’s open door policy...he knew he could get away with shutting his door. She probably was oblivious to the sexual tension between the two boys. Xan listened to Joey’s words with raised eyebrows. “Yeah my dad made me explain what happened between us to him. He’s just...bad at not being weird about stuff like-“ Xan started to explain while rolling his eyes. He was cut off by Joey apologizing. Xan scoffed. “You’re gonna have to refresh my memory on what you’re apologizing about.” He teased. It had been some time since their fight...and even though they had a MULTITUDE of weird interactions since then, he figured that was the main thing Joey was saying sorry about. He sat down in his bed and patted the space beside him for Joey to sit too.
JOEY: Once Xan explained that his dad knew about the two of them, Joey nodded his head slowly, but he didn’t expect for Xan to talk to him about the two of them anyone, especially not his dad – Joey couldn’t remember a time where he had talked about any of his dads about boy problems, but there was a first time for everything. Once he saw Xan sitting down on the bed, Joey looked at him for a while before deciding to sit next to him, trying to organize his thoughts on what to say next. “About the wedding… And about everything that happened after the wedding.” Joey said with a sigh – he should have apologized for this earlier, but the two had sort of avoided each other for a while after the wedding and their interactions were sort of weird after it, so of course Joey didn’t apologize earlier. “I just miss being with you, I guess. I don’t know, it’s kind of weird to think about it. At first we hated each other but now I miss talking to you.” He said with a small chuckle, before he was looking over at Xan. It was true, Joey did miss talking to Xan almost every day, even if most of the times they were teasing each other about the glee club or on who was the most talented out of the two of them – but now, after two years of teasing, it felt like things had changed. “It’s okay if you don’t forgive me, I just really needed to apologize. I haven’t felt like myself for a while now, but I’m trying to make up for what I did… To everyone, you know?”
XAN : Xan didn’t really know what he expected when he invited Joey to his room. It was the same thing for him...he really missed be around Joey. He had talked to Finn about it and even sang songs about. Heck...even when he rehearsed All I Do with the rest of the warblers it was hard to not picture Joey. So when Joey apologized, something just clicked for Xan. “I’ll forgive you if you forgive me...because I’m about to be really cheesy and honest.” He admitted. Xan took a deep breath. “I think part of what made me so angry at the wedding was...I don’t know, the fact that I really like who you’re becoming. And also who we are when we’re not at each other’s throats. We’ve grown a lot since we first met, I think. But I saw annoying freshman year Joey that night and it made me mad cuz I really like who you are now.” He rambled. “I want to...” he paused before looking down at legs. He couldn’t do it. “Nevermind, Im being dumb.” He said, counting all the ways this could go wrong.
JOEY: When Xan spoke, Joey raised an eyebrow at the other – he wasn’t sure about what he was talking about, but the worst part was that he didn’t know what Xan was going to say. He didn’t know what to expect what was to come from Xan being honest; he didn’t know if he was about to be mean or not, but it didn’t seem like it. As he looked over at him, he nodded his head slowly. “Okay… Just say it.” He said with a shrug of his shoulders, before bring his hands together and looking down at them. Whatever he had to say couldn’t be that bad, right? As he heard him talk, Joey nodded his head slowly, letting out a few chuckles at what he was saying – it was true, Joey had changed a lot since freshman year and so had Xan. It was kind of surprising to hear, especially since Joey didn’t believe that could change that much, but apparently he had and so had Xan – and they were better people now because they had changed. “I just really don’t know why I got drunk like that… I guess I was just nervous about the whole Darcy situation and I ended up being caught anyway. And I almost lost someone I really like because of it.” He said, turning his head to look at Xan, raising an eyebrow when he stopped talking. “C’mon, you have to tell me now… You can’t just leave me like that.” He said, before taking Xan’s hand. “What is it?”
XAN: Looked over to Joey as he grabbed his hand. Xan’s foot started to tap lightly beneath him as he charged himself up to speak. “I don’t want to hook up anymore.” He said firmly. He let that sink in for a moment before talking again. “I actually like you as more than a fuckbuddy and until we figure that out...I think it will be too messy for me.” He looked at Joey with expectant eyes. This would be the moment where he found out if everything he had been stressing over was mutual.
JOEY: Those were probably the last words Joey wanted to hear, but luckily he heard what Xan had to say until the end - and he was not disappointed to what he had to say. "Oh." Joey said with a small smile forming on his lips, before he looked down at his legs for a few moments. He really didn't know what to say to stuff like these, he couldn't remember the last time he was in a relationship or had feelings for someone. "Sorry, I just don't really know what to say... I'm really not used to talking about feelings with anyone because, you know... I just sleep with them. But I like you too." He said with a small nod. "I know I do, because I'm never sure about a lot of things... I'm not even sure if I can trust my own fish, I'm pretty sure he's smoking again. But I know that I like you." He nodded.
XAN: Xan hung on to every word Joey said next. He had to actively convince himself that he was doing the wrong thing in the brief pause after Joey’s reaction. He nodded gently as he heard the other boy talk, fully ready to backtrack on what he just said...until Joey said he liked Xan too. “Really?” He said with a little smile. Xan and Joey were vulnerable with each other physically...but this was the first time Xan could remember them doing it with their words. “Geez I thought this was gonna end up really awkward...but I can work with that.” Xan said while gripping Joey’s hand.
JOEY: Joey didn't know if he was ready for a relationship, mostly because he wasn't sure how one worked either way. But of course he was willing to try, especially since he liked being with Xan a lot; so would it really hurt to try being in a relationship with Xan? As he smiled over at the other, Joey nodded his head before moving forward so he could give Xan a small kiss. "I'm glad that it isn't awkward... But you should know that I have no idea what to do now... I'm really not used to doing something like this, but I don't want to ruin it. I really didn't like being mad at you."(edited)
XAN: Xan couldn’t resist returning Joey’s kiss. He didn’t really know what it took to be in a relationship either. Just like Joey, Xan’s experience had been limited to hookups with either Joey or gay warbler groupies. He was glad there was a possibility of something more. “I mean...we can figure out. We don’t have to have to like move in together or buy a dog. I just want to go on dates with you and pick you up after school for fully clothes activities.” He added. “I missed kissing you by the way....”
JOEY: Letting out a small chuckle, Joey nodded his head as he agreed to what Xan was saying. However, he couldn't stop thinking about what everyone's reactions would be once they found out that Joey was actually dating one of New Directions' competitors, but he figured that would be a problem for later. "Now I kind of want a dog though..." He said, thinking about it, before smiling over at Xan. "But that sounds nice! And I did miss kissing you too. And I missed your room." He said with a chuckle, moving in closer for another kiss
XAN : Xan laughed at the idea of actually being dog dads with Joey. The thought was just way too silly for him, and he ended up laughing right back at Joey. It was nice to be kissing him again. It almost felt like everything was finally feeling like normal between them. As they began to make out, Xan lightly tapped Joey's shoulder. "There's like a 10% chance my mom is listening outside the door...so let's cool it for now." He laughed. The last thing he needed was to get walked in on the night of a family dinner.
JOEY: As they started to make out, Joey was happy that everything was okay between the two of them now. Sure, they still had some things to work out, but everything seemed to be going on the right path. As Xan patted him on his shoulder to stop kissing, Joey let out a small chuckle at what he said next, before shaking his head slowly. "Okay, okay, that's fair... Well, listen, at least we already went through that phase of meeting each other's parents, right? At least I think your mom likes me and your dad... I guess I'll just have to show up at your zumba class again so he likes me again." He said with a chuckle. "Can we at least cuddle?"
XAN: Xan tilted his head in a mix of agreement and surprise. That was definitely fair. Knowing each others parents would make that bit a little bit less awkward. "I'm pretty sure your dads like me too right? I'm hella charming and they were both warbler so..." Xan teased. He was sure if given the opportunity he and Blaine could could talk for hours about Warbler history. Xan gave Joey a nod and fell back onto the bed beside him, snuggling up close to him. "This is nice." He said gently.
JOEY: "Sometimes it's weird to think about that I'm the only person in my family that hasn't gone to Dalton... Besides my grandpa, I guess." Joey said with a small shrug, before he was snuggling Xan - it felt nice, but it was weird at the same time. Not that he was going to complain about it, he was thankful that he had figured things out with Xan before they completly stopped talking, it was just something Joey had to get used to. "It is... Feels kind of weird though, we're usually naked when we do this." He said with a chuckle.
XAN: Xan smirked to himself. He couldn’t even imagine Joey in a stuffy little dalton uniform. “I don’t think we would have ended up here if you were were a Dalton kid. No offense but in your case distance definitely made the heart grow fonder.” He teased. Xan laughed at Joey’s joke. Xan didn’t know if weird was the word he would use. “Once my mom knows about us we’re gonna be naked a lot less....at least in my room” he pointed out.
JOEY: "I look better in the Cheerios' uniform either way, so it's all good. Don't need to worry about that, I'm not going to Dalton anytime soon." Joey said with a small chuckle, before shrugging his shoulders and closing his eyes as he cuddled Xan. Once he heard Xan talk about his mom, he opened his eyes as he thought about it for a little. "Right... Well, what exactly are we though? Like, are we dating? Did this dinner count as a date? Does cuddling you like this count like a date? I'm just confused, that's all." He said with a small sigh.
XAN: Xan bit his lip when Joey asked to define what they were doing. He wanted to be Joey’s boyfriend...he just didn’t know if it was too soon for that. He decided to deflect the question instead of racking his brain for answers. He whispered in Joey’s ear, “I want whatever you want.” He kissed Joey’s neck gently. “But....i wouldn’t count dinner with my parents and sister as a date.” He joked.
JOEY: As he waited for Xan's answer, Joey sighed again as he thought even more about it. Maybe it was too soon to talk about all of this and maybe he shouldn't have asked, especially since Xan was taking too long to answer. As he heard the other whisper in his ear, Joey let out a small chuckle as he shrugged his shoulders. "I kind of want pancakes..." He said with a smile. "But listen, we can talk about this some other time, you know? Go on a couple of dates, you can buy me food and then we'll talk about it... Sounds good?" He asked.
XAN: Xan buried his head into his pillow to hide his laughter. Of course Joey wanted pancakes. He didn't feel to insecure about Joey not chomping at the bit to be with him. He figured it wouldn't be too long before things were official. "Sounds good." Xan said with a little bit of a nod. "Are you down to stop talking and just makeout now? I wanna get some kisses in before you leave."
JOEY: "Good, good... But just so you know, I can't have dates in Breadstix because I've been banned from there since sophomore year... But there are other places we can go." He said with a small chuckle, before nodding his head at the other's suggestion. He knew that the kisses was the best thing that he was going to get that night, but he wasn't complaining. "I'm always down for making out." He said, before pulling Xan into a kiss.
THE END.

Power
An appointment to see her mother.
It's just like old times.
Wyda snorts, leaning back against her chair and crossing her arms over her chest. She's early, but it's better to be prompt than risk being late, especially where Mother is concerned.
She closes her eye and just...tries to ignore the sensations flooding around her. Not that closing her eye really makes much of a difference. She still sees in front of her just as well. Still feels.
Ever since she woke up, it's been like this. Getting stronger and stronger all the time. She thinks, in truth, that is probably started before the coma. She knows her attunement to aether had been sharper in the days leading up to that fateful trip out to Gridania. But this is...far beyond that. It's grown so much stronger.
In Ul'dah, or Limsa Lominsa, feeling the aether all around her is hard enough. It's everywhere, after all, and seeing her own vibrant blue, or Victoria's mellow, flowing orange, or the flow of the water, or the circling of the wind...it's getting hard. Especially since she doesn't know how to block it out. Staring into her lover's face and seeing the aether more than the woman is difficult. But in Gridania? Gridania is the land of the Elementals. It's infested with aether. Suffused with it.
She hisses in a breath and places a hand over her eye, blocking out the flood of different aether with the simple, comforting thrumming of her own bright cyan. Aqua? She doesn't claim to be an expert on colours.
"Hyrtwyda Eyhafrynwyn?" A voice calls out, and she gives up her momentary reprieve, lowering her hand and opening her eye to behold the midlander man standing before her. She thinks she recognises him, but...it's been a long time. "The Third Conjurer will see you now."
She gets to her feet, following the conjurer to the sanctum in the Altar that Wyda used to prefer to think of as Mom's office.
Before she goes in, she manages to place the face of the man who guided her. She remembers him, now. "Renly, right?"
He starts in surprise. "Um...yes."
"Huh. We shared classes here at the guild, didn't we? You were the year above me." Shared classes is an understatement. 'Grew up together' would be more accurate.
"We did, yes."
As bad as the Duskwight.
Flatnose.
Outsider.
Freak.
"Huh." Wyda feels a stab of pain in her forehead as she looks at his pale-purple aether, momentarily overwhelmed by it. She raises a hand to her head, wincing. "That must burn, aye? To work beneath a Roegadyn woman, after all you had to say about us?"
His eyes widen in shock and he takes a step back. "Hyrtwyda, I'm...that isn't..."
"Save it. And my name's Wyda."
She shoves her way through the door and takes some small amount of satisfaction in closing it in his face. A little more forcefully than she should.
Her Mother looks up from her desk and makes a disapproving noise. "Must you slam every door you encounter, Wyda dear?"
"I was just catching up with Renly. Lovely man you chose to be your assistant."
Syggrael places down the quill she was writing with and hums. "Yes, I suppose. His magical talents are a little thinner on the ground than I'd like, and his connection to the elementals is tenuous at best. But he is excellent at fetching things."
Now that sounds exactly like something Xan would say. Wyda flops into the chair opposite her mother's desk and intentionally slouches. "You remind me of a friend of mine." It's not a compliment.
"Yes, well." Syggrael clears her throat. "How can I help you? You know you didn't need to organise an appointment, you could've simply come to visit us."
"I'm seeing Dad later," Wyda replies effortlessly. "I asked if I could stop by his workshop after this meeting, spend some time with him."
"...At least stay for dinner, then."
Wyda's teeth clench until her jaw aches. "We'll see."
Syggrael sighs, but that seems to be the most she's getting out of Wyda. "Very well. May I presume this isn't a social call, in that case?"
"Aye."
The Limsan affectation makes Syggrael wince, and gives Wyda another measure of satisfaction.
"So far, my research on cures has been hitting dead ends. I think that the answer might lie in Amdapor."
Syggrael lets out a deep, slow breath. "I see." Her thumb taps against the edge of her desk - an anxious tic. "So, am I to presume you came here in order to ask for access to the restricted ruins?"
"You've the right of it."
Syggrael sighs. She doesn't respond right away, and instead takes off her reading glasses. She regards Wyda softly, gently. For a brief moment, she looks every bit the concerned mother worried for her daughter. "It's not easy," she says, eventually. "The ruins are often too unstable or too dangerous even for conjurer or wood wailer expeditions, let alone a civilian or however many others you intend to bring. Not to mention, the council and the Padjal are unlikely to be...charitable, regarding you current condition. It takes moons for an archaeologist to be permitted access, and you're..."
"A dangerous, reckless dark mage ostracised from the guild?" Wyda offers with a smile.
"...Not an archaeologist."
Wyda closes her eye. Prepares herself. And... Just for a moment, she allows pretense to drop. Her shoulders level out, she moves to sit properly. She sits up, and meets her mother's gaze. "I know I'm asking a lot. But this is the best lead I have. If you refuse, I can go to less restricted ruins, or to Nym, or, hells, I'll even take a trip out to Mhach. But this is my first, best lead, and I don't know if I have the time to investigate the others."
Syggrael swallows repeatedly. Just for a moment, she looks...upset? On the brink of tears?
Wyda isn't sure, and it disappears after barely a second. But it had been there.
"I'll do it," Syggrael says. "If there's any chance it could save you, any at all...I will not allow it to be squandered. I'll yell at Kan-E-Senna myself if it means you get access."
The tension unrolls from Wyda in waves. She hadn't realised how on-edge she'd been when walking in, but her mother saying that...it floods her with a tangible feeling of relief. She smiles, brightly. "Thank you. But please don't shout at Kan-E, I always thought she was cute."
Of all the myriad reactions Wyda expected from that particular quip, the one she isn't expecting...is for her mother to start laughing.
But that's what happens.
She laughs, loud and uproarious, snorting into her hand and wiping a tear from her eye. "Oh, darling, I know. Half of the Altar knew about your childhood crush on her."
...Well.
...That's mortifying.
"Oh, gods. Why didn't anyone tell me?"
"We all just thought it was so endearing!"
Wyda crosses her arms and grumbles. "I could've died not knowing about how obvious I was, you know. It would've been a mercy!"
Syggrael's gaze softens. She reaches out, across the table. "Come to dinner. I'm sure Eyhafryn would love to see you for more than a couple of hours."
Wyda looks down at Syggrael's hand, and her resolve falters.
"Please?"
Damn it. Wyda groans. "Fiiiine. But I'm going to see Dad without you, first."
Syggrael looks...genuinely delighted. "Of course. I need to work out how I'm going to convince the Council to allow a dangerous, reckless dark mage into Amdapori ruins, regardless." She smiles, eyes sparkling as she makes the joke.
(A joke! From her mother!)
And just for the moment, Wyda can't bring herself to regret visiting.

X, Q, E
oooo i didn’t think i had any ocs starting with x but i remembered one from ages ago actually..... i had a story called After Life abt a kid trying to redeem his soul after he gets sent to hell, it was a bit all over the place tho and i scrapped it. although recently saw there’s a netflix show of the same name w ricky gervais and still managed to be annoyed
Full Name: Xanthe (if she had a surname it’s gone from my memory omg)
Nicknames, If Any: Xan
Hogwarts House: slytherin
Gender: female
Sexuality: bi
A Song I Associate With Them: hmmmm.... That Man by caro emerald
3 Important Relationships: WELL i only remember 2 other characters she knew, tbh this world was never well-developed
-ransom, he’s her very officious & stuffy angel rival who she ends up having a weird hate-fling with
-there was the main kid whose guardian demon she is (oh yea she’s like a guardian angel but the opposite. encourages u to be bad.) but for the life of me i don’t remember his name lol. once i had developed RanXan as concepts i got distracted by their s*xy little rivalry. yes it’s all terminally het, i was like 14
2 Fears: she’s been (well, not alive, but around) for a long time so she’snot scared of much. she’s a very cocky person and embraces being the bad influence, especially to annoy ransom, bc on the surface she’s like, well this whole heaven/hell divide is bullshit, people aren’t just one thing. but i think deep down she’s afraid of the idea that she really is bad. and afraid of what happens once she fades into irrelevance in hell and stops getting assignments but still has to carry on existing
1 Element of their backstory: i think she was alive way back in Biblical Times - obv she wasn’t called xanthe then but chose her own name. she was a serial liar and said that god was talking to her in order to get things she wanted. but she died young, like everyone did
Q - oo i DO have one Q oc! he’s from adrift, my pirate novel that i will one day finish
Full Name: Queryn Smousk
Nicknames, If Any: idk if anyone calls him a nickname. they mostly just don’t refer to him.
Hogwarts House: hufflepuff
Gender: male ? hm
Sexuality: gay
A Song I Associate With Them:  bottom of the river by delta rae
3 Important Relationships:
-rictor avis: queryn is a generic sailor on the pirate ship, rictor is the surgeon/carpenter for the crew, he’s a huge tall crow man, and is equally or perhaps more creepy than queryn. they hang around together and give everyone weird vibes. rictor is mute & queryn isn’t, but he says very little out of choice (he doesn’t speak the main language, idk common or whatever, very well) but they like to sit in the crows nest together in silence most hours of the day when theyre not working. everyone even their crewmates thinks they might be up to some weird shit. their dark secret? theyre just a cute couple.... they just like to hang out. they bonded with quiet, intense looks when queryn was first rescued dying in the swamp and brought on board and rictor mended his wounds. it was tender. absolutely nobody else knows theyre a couple even tho they don’t keep it a secret. theyre just chill
-garran korrash: garran is the bosun and is a literal/figurative grizzly old bear, and as well as being queryn’s manager he’s one of the only people who he’s really chill with. garran was the one who insisted they stop n help him out, and queryn’s been grateful ever since. he doesn’t say it bc he hardly says anything, but he shows it in hard work
-sonya perlace: like almost all of her crew, queryn would die for captain sonya. he comes from a pretty harsh society where the strong survive, and even tho he never quite fit in there, he really respects sonya’s strength & leadership.
2 Fears: even tho he’s a pirate his biggest fear is drowning since he nearly drowned before. he has a lot of nightmares about it. he’s also creeped out by elliot. cause what the fuck even IS that?
1 Element of their backstory: p much the only backstory he has is that he was part of this society of amphibian/lizard people in the deep swampy area of the continent that’s cut off from the rest. he was out hunting but got badly gored by a huge aninal (idk what, like a Bigger Lizard.. theres always a bigger lizard) and couldnt make it home. he started sinking into the bog but couldn’t pull himself free, then the area began to flood with torrential rainwater and he cried for help. luckily sonya & garran happened to be trekkin through the jungle and heard him
E - has to be elliot, the little bastard supreme. i played him as a dnd character with an altered backstory but i’ll use the adrift version
Full Name: elliot (no known surname)
Nicknames, If Any: nope
Hogwarts House: slytherin
Gender: male
Sexuality: probably bi? he only a teen though and being surrounded by furries hasn’t had much chance to develop any feelings on the matter
A Song I Associate With Them:  mariner’s revenge song by the decemberists
3 Important Relationships:
lol 2 of the 3 are fully hatred relationships because this young man has iiiiisssuuuuuues
-sonya perlace: he acts the begrudging deckhand who’s resigned himself to his life, but he is 100% devoted to eventually killing her. she killed his mama and he has been waiting for his moment ever since, he’s even had opportunities to leave the crew but has stayed so he can keep close to her. it’s fully like, would have a picture of her with daggers & darts in it, if he had such resources
-niphea perlace: niph is the captain’s daughter, the first mate, and the reason elliot’s still alive - she persuaded sonya not to throw him off the ship along with his mum. he has understandably mixed feelings abt this, and he rarely shows it, but she’s always been an advocate for him and treated him fairly so he does like niph more than anyone, despite himself. also she’s his closest in age on a ship full of adults. he.... tries not to think abt the fact he plans on killing her mother in return cause that’s a bit awkward isnt it
-aidan moss: quartermaster aidan doesn’t like things he doesn’t understand, and he doesn’t understand what elliot is, so he goes out of his way to be awful to him, tending to delegate his own jobs to elliot at every chance he can get & generally insulting him. elliot tolerates it bc he has to. but make no mistake this dude is no2 on the kill list
2 Fears: i don’t think he has a lot of fears because he’s already been through some of the worst things imaginable. i don’t even think he precisely fears drowning/dying at sea, because he’s been focused on the image of how his mother died for so long, & imagining doing the same to sonya, that it kinda no longer affects him?  but he also saw his dad die over a long period from wound infection and i think that must have made a traumatic impression on him, so i imagine he’s probably at least repulsed by decay/rot
1 Element of their backstory: so elliot is the only human character in a world of animals basically... i mean this is major novel spoilers but when tf am i ever gonna finish that.  he comes from a very remote island of remaining humans, descendants of the few who survived nuclear disaster a long time ago. when he was small he and his parents were exiled from the island for breaking its rules (yea, as tends to happen w small isolated communities, things got over the top cult-y) and sent out in a tiny boat to fend for themselves. his dad died slowly while they drifted in the ocean, and he and his mum were near death when they were picked up by sonya’s crew, who were like what the fuck are those??? they kept them in the hold to discuss what to do w them, but elliot’s mum, thalia, tried to break free, attacking niph when she came with food. as punishment sonya made her walk the plank, and that’s where it all went wrong yknow. woops this isn’t 1 element is it. oh well

pov rp: i try to wink at u but i close both eyes like jinsoul in this gif <3 SBJDWBDJWBDJ hello im xan im 22 & from the est timezone i use she / her pronouns & ur watching disney channel. is this super late ? yea...but thats super on brand for me its fine its fun its sexy so * jugkook vc* let’s get it !
— jung jinsoul. she/her. cis female. | was that niko seo i just saw in the hideaway lobby ? i hear the twenty-two year old spends most of their time working as a waitress, but i’ve always just seen them scribbling poetry on napkins. they live in 3A and i often see them in the halls. they always give me a vibe of making wishes on falling stars, silk ribbons adorning messy ponytails, and breakfast at midnight.
BACKSTORY
so miss niko was born in a teeny tiny suburban town in north carolina to a pair of  young high school sweethearts ! unfortunately her mom passed away during childbirth so it was a very bittersweet arrival into the world for baby niko
her dad was a mechanic who never made it to college since his girlfriend got pregnant towards the end of their senior year. they got married before niko was born though because they were pretty serious abt raising her right but they never really got the chance to /: but her dad loved his job he loved working with cars & it was something his own dad did before him plus it was a job the town really valued since it was so tiny ( u really only needed one of everything )
when i say tiny i mean everyone knows everyone tiny. growing up the town kinda pitied niko bc of her mom dying so to compensate everyone kinda tried to do their part in raising her ! her neighbors were just as much of a parent to her as her own dad was, and everyone had stories abt her mom so niko kinda appreciated how small the town was.....sometimes
that changed as she got older ! when she started high school her dad kinda entered a rough patch & started drinking more with his buddies, started working less, and niko started getting calls from the sheriff at 2 am like “hey we’re gonna keep ur dad for the night he didnt do anything crazy but he got a little too drunk u can pick him up tomorrow” sort of thing
she was there for him every time but it got kinda overwhelming knowing everyone was in her family's business & how much kids would gossip at school or adults would give her sad looks
basically she kinda just....became very disillusioned with her reality & began to realize no one around her was really.....happy or had big dreams and their entire lives revolved around this tiny town which scared her
but also ? it had started becoming her life, too. she was voted prom queen senior year, she had a job at a diner where the same people ate everyday, she’d been dating the same boy for four years and everyone talked about how they’d probably get married soon. she’d become exactly like everyone else without even realizing it....she didnt have some big dream.....she didnt even have plans for college she was just so stuck
and then disaster hit the summer after she graduated high school. her dad had crashed right into a tree on a rainy night trying to drive home after a night out drinking & died on impact. the news honestly didnt feel real to her until her grandparents were helping her clear out her house so she could come move in with them
which is when she finds her mom’s old diary ! and boy was that thing . fat & juicy ... it had all four years worth of her mom’s high school years inside and niko became ...obsessed with it. all she did that summer her dad died was read her mom’s old diary learning more abt the woman from those pages than she ever had from the mouths of everyone in her town
thats how she found out her mom had always dreamed of moving to some city like seattle and starting this new life once she found out she was pregnant with niko ! so niko was like ok this has to be a sign....told her grandparents she loved them but she couldnt stay in north carolina.....and boop ! she pretty much disappeared from the town, didnt tie up any lose ends ( including her bf of four years who she was kinda engaged to ? JSDBJBDJ ) because she just had to leave that bad.
cue a scene on bus with niko looking out the window as some dramatic song abt new beginnings plays . JSDBJSBDJW seattle was truly her new start at 18 ... and all she wanted to do was just ... reinvent herself
so she did ! first thing she did was get a job as a waitress bc uh ur girl was BROKE broke but she knew she was good at serving. the first year was.....pretty rough there’s no sugar coating it niko was struggling bad, probably living in some questionable apartment when she wasnt coach hopping at her coworker’s places. despite all this she was....insanely happy she really believed ( and still does ) seattle is magic !
she was working at a diner ironically, just like she had been back home, but this diner changed her life about a two years ago. one day one of her regulars ( a very well off lawyer who worked downtown ) told her she was way too pretty and charming to be serving at a place like this & that he had a buddy who owned an upscale restaurant near his job downtown & that he could probably get niko a job there if she wanted
so she was like UH hell yes....showed up the next day at this fancy restaurant, charmed the pants off the owner, and the rest ? is history !  she moved into hideaways a bit after getting this new job & has been there ever since <3
PERSONALITY + TIDBITS
personality wise niko is kinda ....hard to figure out. she doesnt do it on purpose, she’s just still learning about who she is and what she really wants. back home in north carolina she was kind of the small town golden girl, loved by everyone type of deal but also very romanticized by those around her ??? ppl thought she was brilliant and knew so much about everything when the truth was she just knew a little about a lot. she would read to escape the suburban boredom of her reality & took a special interest in things like art and poetry and astronomy. shes the type to want to share the stuff she’s learned with those around her
in seattle since no one knew her the way they did back home, niko decided she wanted to keep it that way. because of this and because shes so hesitant to talk about her family sometimes she can come across as mysterious but she’s a surprisingly open person !! she’s naturally super curious and friendly and she’s found it really helps to be the kind of person people want to get to know and trust when working in the service industry. she’s got the type of aura about her that makes you feel as if maybe you’ve known her forever, even if she’s only told you one thing about herself ( which is often the case) . can probably make anyone feel at home within five minutes of talking to her & you won’t even realize how she’s doing it. her boss swears she’s charming enough to sell honey to a bee !
she’s also got a flighty side though that comes out when you get too close. niko’s great at relationships when they aren’t deep, but the moment you start and figure her out and see past the smiley walls she’s got up she recoils fast. in a way she’s terrified of anyone knowing too much about her because she’s scared that once they do they’ll pity her, and niko can’t stand being pitied. she’s also super good at dishing out affection but not so good at receiving it. the type to fall in love then right back out of love in one day. kinda a heart breaker bc of this but she doesn't mean to be, she just gets infatuated kinda easily & isn’t very good at keeping things serious ever since literally running away from her long-time ex in north carolina JSBCSJBDJW
some fun facts: she wants to get a cat and name it cat so bad but she’s not sure she’d be a good pet mom so she just settles for petting stray cats in public. 100% that weirdo crouching in the street making kissy noises because she saw a cat and wants to pet it. she can name just about every constellation & loves to sit outside and look at the stars on clear nights, usually while smoking a joint . she’s a hardcore lightweight .... im talking one tequila shot and she’s floored ... two glasses of wine and she’s taking her top off  then crying kinda deal like she CANNOT handle her liquor so she tries to keep partying to a minimum. she’s got a collection of napkins from work were people have scribbled their phone numbers onto as well as a collection of napkins niko herself has scribbled on. she mostly writes poems and sometimes she even leaves a napkin with a poem on it behind at a table like a little gift for whoever sits there next. she’s probably always writing poems for all her friends or infatuations so if you’re in her life....you’ve gotten one at some point !
the only thing she brought with her from north carolina were all her records. she’s got a pretty extensive collection that ranges from donna summer to louis armstrong to led zeppelin & when she finally got a record player of her own in seattle it was probably the best day of her life <3 she really likes to watch scary movies but also they scare her so bad so it’s a cycle of oh yes lets watch this.....fuck why did i do that.....im sleeping with the lights on rinse & repeat. she really likes to cook ! she learned at a pretty early age out of necessity but now she does it for her own pleasure also because of her growing interest / knowledge in the restaurant industry. her wardrobe is 95% thrifted and 5% stolen from miscellaneous people ( her dad, old boyfriends, hookups, friends, etc. ) is a notorious hoodie thief so dont lend her yours......
and this is WAY too long im.....so sorry this literally always happens aha <3 yes i ramble but thats bc . i have a lot to say and i also have a lot of love to give ! spare some plots ? we can im on tumblr but i am 100% easier to reach on discord  @ EL i love u 💖✨🌙#8172 so hit me up there & lets get this show on the road baby !

Well, thanks for reading and thanks for all the comments and feedback after the last chapter! Jamie and Claire need some time out and a couple of friendly shoulders to lean on.
Thanks to @mo-nighean-rouge for the beta.
Chapter 17: A Therapeutic Counselling
Sometimes, just saying that you hate something, and having someone agree with you, can make you feel better about a terrible situation. - Lemony Snicket, The Bad Beginning
Jamie: How are you doing today?
Sassenach: OK. Lot of thinking
Sassenach: How are you?
Jamie: Worried. When can I see you?
Sassenach: Not yet. Will let you know
Jamie: I love you x
Sassenach: ...
Sassenach: …
Sassenach: I know
Sassenach: ...
Sassenach: Love you too
******
The day at work dragged by. Jamie felt detached and sluggish, fuelled only by industrial-strength espresso. He really thought they had worked it through last night. After the initial anger followed by hurt and sadness, Jamie had believed there was an acceptance of the situation. He had let Claire take the lead in their lovemaking, realising her fierce need to possess his body and brand him, mark him as hers. But Claire's wound was still raw, with no time to scab over, and his unintentional teasing with the condom had been enough to open it wide again. He considered himself to have a degree of emotional intelligence, but it had totally failed him last night. And the result was being told to leave Claire’s bed and return home, in a taxi, his arousal having quickly dissipated when he realised his own insensitivity.
The day had been incredibly unproductive too, constantly checking his phone for signs that Claire was willing to meet him. Apart from the terse responses to his texts, there had been no further communication.
The screen of his phone lit up, announcing the arrival of a message. Greedily, he picked it up, disappointed when John’s name appeared.
John: Gym in 20?
Jamie: yh. See you in there
******
John was already pounding away on the treadmill when Jamie arrived. He quickly adjusted the settings, plugged his headphones in and set off. His legs and hand still ached from the strenuous activity yesterday, so he kept it easy, not even trying to match or outdo John’s pace as he usually did.
John glanced over to his friend, his face questioning Jamie’s unaccustomed slow speed. Jamie shrugged and carried on.
The process was repeated on the rowing machines and cross trainers. By the time they reached the hand bikes, Jamie had had enough. He pulled out his headphones and tapped John’s arm.
“That’s it fer me. I’m headin’ fer the shower.”
“Are you ok? You don’t seem your usual, er, bullish self.”
“Aye, well, things on ma mind.”
Wrapping a towel round himself, Jamie left his shower cubicle and headed to his locker as John walked into the changing room. John stared momentarily at Jamie’s stomach, before hastily shifting his gaze upwards.
“Er, good night then, was it?” He nodded his head in the general direction of Jamie’s lower body.
Jamie glanced in the mirror. The evidence of Claire’s ministrations the previous night was clearly visible, livid red circles across his abdomen with faint pink tracks down his chest.
“No’ sae good as ye’re thinking. Have ye time fer a drink? I could do wi’ one.”
******
John brought the drinks over to their usual table. Unusually, John had chosen neat whisky. It seemed more appropriate to him, joining Jamie in a dram or two while listening to, he was sure, Jamie’s current relationship problems.
Jamie took a sip of his drink, then another. John waited in silence.
“I dinna ken where tae start.” Jamie began, tapping his glass with his fingers.
John shrugged.
“We’ve known each other, what, ten, eleven years? And in all that time, have ye ever known me to fall for a woman? I mean, really fall, hard?”
John shook his head. “No, plenty of girlfriends, plenty of relationships, but none that I thought ‘this is it, this is Jamie settling down.’ Not until now.”
“Aye, ye’re no wrong. No’ wishin’ tae sound too soppy, but this is the first time I’ve felt like this. Claire is the one I see a future with… did see… no, do see. But I’m feared she willna want tae carry on. And it’s all ma fault. I canna believe it, everything was going sae well.”
He took a larger gulp of his drink before carrying on. “I went tae see Geneva, like we spoke about.”
“Oh, did Claire not know? Has she found out?”
“Nah, I told her what I was doin’. That was fine. It’s no’ that… Geneva’s pregnant. With ma bairn. I told Claire last night.”
John was stunned into silence at this revelation, before bursting forth with a barrage of questions. “Oh my god, Jamie, pregnant? Really? Yours? Are you sure? And telling Claire? How did she take it? Sorry, stupid question… of course she’ll have taken it badly. But does she think you’d slept with Geneva while seeing her?”
“Aye, I’m sure it’s mine. I’ve kent Geneva for a good while and the way she thinks. And Claire, weel, she kens it was just afore I met her. She took it as well as anyone would… blamed me fer being led by ma cock, no’ ma brain. Blamed me fer leading Geneva on when I’d no mind tae have a relationship wi’ her. Then took me tae her bed. Like a vixen she was, till… weel, till I wasna as sensitive as I shoulda been. And she told me tae go. Jes’ a couple of texts since then. And I’m worried, John. What if I’ve screwed it all up? What if she doesna want tae be wi’ me? I dinna ken what I’d do. What will I do, John? ”
“I don’t know, Jamie, I really don’t know.”
John had never seen his friend this upset about a woman. To Jamie, girlfriends had always been like buses, if you missed one, just hang around and another will be along soon enough. He realised that Claire must be really quite special.
“All you can do is talk to her and listen to her too. I’m sure she won’t want to throw away what you have. But you must realise it’s a lot for Claire to deal with, a child and an ex! She knows you weren’t unfaithful to her. And you’ll need to reassure her that you won’t be going back to the woman. That’s not what Geneva wanted, was it?”
“Aye, she did suggest we could try again. But I made it clear that wasna going tae happen. And even if Claire and I canna…” Jamie paused for a moment before taking a deep breath and continuing. “Even if Claire and I willna be together, I will never be wi’ Geneva. John, dinna tell anyone about this, please. I want tae have it all sorted afore I have tae start explaining tae people... Another one, eh?”
Jamie drained his glass and stood up. John wasn’t sure he could stomach another neat whisky but felt that asking for some ginger ale to go with it might send Jamie over the edge. He just nodded and passed his empty glass over.
Jamie returned with two whiskies and two packets of salt and vinegar crisps. He ripped one open and shovelled a couple of handfuls into his mouth. Conversation between them stopped until Jamie finished crunching. He wiped his hands on his tracksuit and leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table.
“And do ye ken, while all this is goin’ on in ma head… what about Claire… what about Geneva… how do I explain tae Claire… what do I tell Jenny and Da… the one thing that’s no’ gettin’ a look in is the poor wee bairn that’s goin’ tae be arrivin’. I mean, I dinna want tae have a baby this way.”
“I know... but It’s awfully convenient for Geneva isn’t it? She wants to be in a relationship with you. Suddenly she’s pregnant. Call me a cynical lawyer, and I know accidents can happen but... think about a DNA test when the baby’s born. Just remember, I’m here for you as a friend but I’m also here in my professional capacity. I hope you don’t need that but bear that in mind.”
Jamie’s phone, resting on the table, bleeped. He snatched it up.
Sassenach: xan we taiolk???
Sassenach: im aa bit pissssed, och aye xx
**************
Fortunately for Claire, and more fortunately for her patients, she had no theatre or outpatient sessions, so she could spend the day in her office, fortified by strong black coffee, dictating patient letters and catching up on other paperwork.
She found it difficult to focus though. Her mind kept replaying the conversation between herself and Jamie last night, culminating in forcing Jamie to leave her flat, in a taxi, with a bad case of blue balls, no doubt.
It had been unkind, and possibly not rational of her to do that, but just when she had reached a level of acceptance of the situation, he had tried to include contraception as part of foreplay. That had hit hard, not only Geneva’s pregnancy, but his goddamn lack of sensitivity.
Claire’s secretary tried to keep her spirits up by frequently bringing her pots of tea and rounds of toast. (“This is what keeps the NHS goin’, ye ken, pet. Nice bit of hot tea and a bite of toast. Soon put the colour back in yer cheeks.”)
Her phone rested on the desk, distracting her from her work. She kept picking it up, poised to send Jamie a text, but unsure what to say, she would put it down again. The messages she had sent to Jamie were short responses to his, giving away nothing.
By mid afternoon she had had enough. The caffeine from the copious amounts of coffee and tea had given her a headache so she decided to walk home, trying to clear her head. As she gathered her papers together, shoving them into her bag, the screen of her phone lit up, announcing the arrival of a message. She picked it up, disappointed when Geillis’s name appeared.
G: r u ok. Didn’t c u 2day
Claire: it’s complicated. Come round later for a drink?
G: ok. C u l8r
******
The door was unlocked, so Geillis let herself in and headed straight for the living room. She sat down as Claire appeared, struggling to carry two whisky tumblers, an ice bucket and a bottle of Broch Tuarach.
“Celebratin’ are we? Ye’ve brought out the good stuff, I see.” Geillis commented
Claire poured two very large whiskies and passed one to her friend. She dropped three ice cubes into her whisky, letting the contents splash over the rim of the glass and onto the table.
“Oh bugger... I’ll have bloody ice in my whisky if I want. I might actually want it to dilute the flavour, he doesn’t bloody know what I want, that’s for sure.”
Claire tried to mop up the spillage with the hem of her shirt, succeeding only in spreading the moisture over a larger area. Geillis began to suspect that this was not her first drink of the evening.
“So, I take it we’re no’ celebratin’ here then. What’s the problem, Claire? My hunch is it’s man-related, am I right? Come on, tell me, while I savour this fine dram.”
“I don’t know where to start. We’ve been friends for, what, seven years now? You saw me with Frank and know what shit he put me through. I’m so relaxed with Jamie. I don’t want to be soppy but I love the way he makes me feel. I see a future with him, or, well I did and it’s suddenly got so complicated.”
Claire swigged her drink.
“Basically, last year Jamie was in a relationship with a woman called Geneva. Stupid bloody name. Anyway, he finished with her, but they briefly got back together just before I met him. He ended it again. Then a few days ago she started sending him messages asking to meet up.”
“Oh, did he go and no’ tell ye? Is that it? And ye’re right, ‘tis a daft name.”
Claire took another large swig. The ice was starting to hurt her teeth. She fished a couple of cubes out of her drink and dropped them back in the bucket.
“No, He told me he was going to see her to make it plain there was no chance. That was fine. It’s not that… Geneva’s pregnant. It’s his baby. She’s keeping it. He told me last night.”
”Ye dinna think he shagged her while he was wi’ ye? Christ, a bairn. Why would anyone want a bairn?”
“I know it…” Claire drained her whisky. “Him and her… them… was before me. But I hate the thought of him screwing that cow. I’ve never met her but I’m sure she’s a cow. Anyway, I got mad and accused him of thinking with his cock.”
Geillis raised her glass in salute and nodded. “He’s a man, that’s what they all do. Can work to our advantage, though.”
“And I accused him of leading Geneva on. Then I got all maudlin about our babies.”
Geillis eyed Claire’s midriff. “No’ ye too? ‘Cos the amount of alcohol ye’re shifting would no’ be good.”
“G, of course not. I meant hypothetical babies.”
“They’re the best kind,” Geillis muttered. “Dinna get under yer feet, or smell, or cry or…”
“Focus, G. So after rage and tears, I then turned into some sort of vixen and practically pounced on him. Until he suggested that I put the condom on him, all sexy-like. So I asked him to leave. That’s it. What should I do, G? I want him, but it’s all getting so messy.”
“I dinna ken, Claire. Mebbe another drink?” Geillis handed Claire her glass in expectation as she carried on talking.
“Ye have tae figure out what ye want. That’s ye, no’ Jamie or that woman or a bairn. Think about jes’ yerself. What are ye willin’ tae deal with? And then all you can do is talk tae him. If ye want him, ye have tae remember he wasna unfaithful. He needs tae gi’ ye reassurance that he willna go back tae the bitch. But if ye dinna feel ye want these complications, think carefully about what ye’re givin’ up. Either way, it’s gonna be difficult... Now pour that Broch Tuarach. I could develop quite a taste fer this.”
Claire poured two more very large whiskies and drank deeply.
“And I need to remember,” she started, slurring her words. “I can be angry, really really mad as hell with Jamie and totally pissed off with Genevieve, sorry, Geneva who I bet is a total dog breath and always coordinates her handbag with her shoes. And I bet she gets one of those really neat bumps, not fat or all round… sorry, what was I saying? Oh, I remember. But there’s going to be a li’l baby with red hair and curls and I’d have to meet it. And it might not like me and cry for Gennifer, sorry, Genevieve, I mean Geneva.”
And with that, Claire closed her eyes and rested her head on Geillis’ shoulder. Geillis patted her curls affectionately and carefully removed the glass, now at a precarious angle, from Claire’s hand.
“What I’m thinkin’ is, ‘twas verra handy how she got pregnant by accident, is it no’? Verra suspicious. Well, Claire, ye need tae talk tae Jamie as soon as possible and get this sorted. And remember, I may no’ be tall, but I’m verra strong and I’ve a friend who works with horses and can always lend me a castration tool. In case ye need it.”
******
Claire woke up as Geillis shut the front door and headed home. Still drunk, Claire fumbled in her bag for her mobile and started typing.
Claire: xan we taiolk???
Claire: im aa bit pissssed, och aye xx
Jamie: Of course. When? Now?
Claire : tomrw. need sleeep noo. want crosssant. sooooooo hungry. byeee
Claire:stupid fukin sperms

Characters I’ll be using
Odd
Akua
Videl
Inantar
Lahortans
Aria
Xan
Rheoste
-
10 Most likable
1) Rheoste: (Oh my goodness a character that I don’t speak about much but I still consider them main Because I like them and they’re well developed.) Just because you are a puppet politician doesn’t mean you’re happy with it they are also probably the genuine nicest one they have a lot of issues but it doesn’t actually make them very unlikable as a person. They are a wonderful host Who would love to talk about poetry and novels over a cup of tea. Also they are rather nice to their House staff.
2) Akua: she tries to be very sweet and very adorable. She understands your feelings and will try to accommodate but she does have a lot of emotional turbulence that can get in the way and make her not as nice
3) Videl: very cool friendly boy outwardly is super likable and a cool kid but not the cool kid who will make fun of you nerds. But he does love attention too much which doesn’t show too often but that in along is it cold side towards people who don’t like him or has seen his not so savory points
4) Xan: very polite young noble but excessively so you can’t really know them very well. Oh but they’re a little uptight and probably would hold you up to the same standards as they do themselves so judgemental
5) Inantar: oh if you work under her you definitely won’t like her. And that’s fair she’s pretty rough. Outside she can be rather introverted and quiet. Well that doesn’t make her the most likable but it doesn’t make her dislikable.
6) Odd: he gets better but he’s pretty much a loner at the point we are using. Workaholic, abrasive when disturbed, doesn’t really try to make friends at school either. I guess he would be tsundere ish but yeah his personality tends to be a little repellent get past his shell and you find someone who shows that they value you as a friend.
7) Lahortans: seriously if you’re not interesting to them in the field of magic or not a sexual partner Or client they sell their wares they probably won’t care about you. Maybe that doesn’t make them walk the worst person but you sure will feel like they ignore you completely which is not wrong.
8) Aria: either she’s extremely quiet and withdrawn or chaotic young teen who will get you into a lot of trouble for the fun of it and has a Cackling laugh. Probably doesn’t really care about you Unless you stick by her long enough then and she might actually develop attachment. She won’t be actively bad to you though
7 Most intelligent
My view of intelligence is a little weird because I’m a straight a student and just came natural to me.
I don’t understand intelligence too well so I’m just going to make a list without detail
Lahortans
Akua
Xan
-
Inantar
Aria
Odd
-
Videl
Rheoste
No this doesn’t make Videl himbo He is dead average
12 most attractive
I feel like attractiveness is supposed to be like if you would have a crush/arousal at sight but I god I don’t know This is going to be based off what is Canon.
1)Videl: Well he supposed to be the most attractive yes? Pretty eye(...?) clear skin, good sense Fashion excellent Posture?? Look he chose his body because he knew he would be pretty and he was right.
2)Akua: Absolutely adorable girl , Also tall and also strong although not very muscular. She has a sweet voice, Physically expresses herself in a cute way and has the clothing to go with it.
3)Lahortans: Long lashes long wavy black hair, or gray if they decide to powder it. They aren’t skinny but they Don’t need that to look delicate and doll-like that’s what they are going for. Even their voice gives that impression as long as you don’t hear them be themself..
4)Oddmund: just a guy who doesn’t want to be cute but that’s the face he got stuck with. Fortunately for him is well-dressed Making him be pretty handsome too.
5)Rheoste: The stresses of life has definitely worn them down but and they used to be Beautiful they still look pretty nice. Even their messy hair looks like beautiful waves, and in certain light their skin shimmers wsparkles.
6)Xan: Not The most pretty person but they definitely have some princely Look and aura to them. it’s what landed them their job after all. The speckled skin of theirs is also A highlight
7)Aria: Rather average face but beautiful hair. Honestly I wanted to her to have average attractiveness of a lot of other cool things going on in your life I felt like it was a good balance
8)Inantar: OK she is supposed to be not very attractive and had the temptation of manipulating emotions not been there she would’ve definitely chosen a different body. Aging up but not yet old, gnarled teeth that shows even with her mouth closed, severity as well..
24 Best to worst student
1)Xan: They are homeschooled but if they weren’t they would definitely participate in class always asking questions always being polite, Good grades, Model student probably has difficulties working with others though. Will be a tattletale.
2)Akua: occasionally talks to her friends too much but Will stop When called on. Will do her work and get good grades. You will love to have her in class.
3)Aria: never talks to anyone, does all her work good grades. Not much more to it. Probably gets in trouble out of the classroom.
4)Inantar: painfully shy will not participate in class or do oral presentations if avoidable. Good grades But can be a little judgemental of others also a tattletale.
5)Oddmund: quiet in class only participates when called on. probably gets snippy with teachers sometimes. Does all his homework though, straight B’s.
6)Lahortans: very smart but lazy and won’t get the highest grades on subjects they don’t care about and won’t do things that they find too annoying.
7)Videl: oh you know he has to be separated from other people to avoid talking in class. has issues with respecting professors and being motivated to study but only with some classes. Otherwise he can be an average student.
8)Rheoste: actual class clown, but Nice to professors. Weird fluctuating grades and too much levity about it, type of student you send to a counselor because you suspect they might be really depressed. They are.
Did you read the It all no it’s OK because this was exhausting should’ve read the prompts before I took it especially #4

Shameless 9x14 “Found” Review
It’s the end of an era, Shameless fans. After nine hilarious, gut-punching, heart-wrenching seasons, Emmy Rossum has left the show for good. For the past eight years, her portrayal of the eldest Gallagher daughter has left viewers in fits of laughter, fits of tears, and everything in between. In her send off episode, she reminds us and her siblings just how much she will be missed.
In her penultimate episode, Fiona came into a large sum of money, $100,000 to be exact. Just as she had accepted her fate and gotten a job at the local gas station working nights, she was lifted from rock bottom and given the chance to start anew. So now, she must decide what she wants her future to look like. This is understandably difficult for Fiona because, well, she’s never really had that choice before.
She decides not to tell any of her siblings at first, but observes what their lives would look like without her in it. She’s raised each of them as best she could, and as she watches them get ready for their day the next morning, she realizes she’s done a better job than she ever knew. As nice as this is, it’s a bit of a gut punch when she begins to see that they don’t need her anymore. Debbie even asks if they can switch rooms so that she has more space for her and Franny, and asks Fiona what her future plans are. It’s as if they’re giving her a reason to leave without even knowing it.
And then there’s Lip, who kicked Fiona out of the house a few episodes back. While Fiona has cleaned her act up and gotten Lip off her back, it’s likely that his threat still lingers in her mind. It’s not just about if Fiona is needed in the Gallagher house, but does anyone want her there anymore?
As Fiona tries to decide what to do, the rest of the gang are up to their own shenanigans. Frank has been released from the hospital and is camping out on the couch. He needs around the clock care and complains relentlessly about need more Oxy, causing the family to consider dumping him under a bridge. Realizing they could get in serious legal trouble for that, given Frank’s age and poor health, they instead discuss getting him a caretaker. After all, their lives are too busy to be dealing with Frank, of all people.
Across town, Fiona’s hearing actually goes well. Her public defender tells her she must pay a few thousand dollars in fines, which she definitely has now. While out, she goes to visit Ian in prison to ask for his advice. After telling him she’s thinking about leaving, going someplace warm, he tells her to do it, that he’ll always be there for her. Fiona is a bit taken aback, but takes her brother’s words to heart. She knows she can’t stay in the Southside forever.
Ian also briefly mentions what’s going on in his life, how he’s working in the infirmary, got lice, and, oh yeah, is bunking with none other than Mickey Milkovich who works in the laundry room (Is anyone else getting serious Alex Vause vibes?).
Fiona supports her brother, and it’s clear that he supports her too. It seems like this is just what she needed — to be really, truly heard. And perhaps because Ian has spent some time away from his family, he knows how trapped one can feel in the Gallagher house. So with that, Fiona’s mind is made up.
While Fiona plans to distance herself from her siblings, Debbie and Carl grow closer. After butting heads over Kelly and both having their hearts broken by her, they bond (and vandalize her truck). So when Carl accepts a job as the manager of a nearby Captain Bob’s location, Debbie refuses to let him give up on military school. Unable to get through to him, she calls in Kelly for help, blaming her for her brother’s sudden lack of confidence. Together, the pair are able to snap Carl out of it. And after a brief time apart, Kelly and Carl get back together.
Continuing her maternal streak, Debbie goes to get Liam and bring him home. When she finds him at his friend’s house, he reminds her that he asked the whole family the previous night if he could move in, and they said yes. Liam, not willing to be ignored anymore, gives Debbie a list of demands the Gallaghers must meet if they want him back in the house. Most notably, he wants to be surrounded by black culture, which he feels he’s been robbed of living in an entirely white household.
Across town, Lip once again goes on a wild goose chase when Tammi’s BRCA test comes back positive. She has the “baby good” kind, leading us to assume she’ll want to have the baby, but Tammi is hesitant to bring a child into the world when she knows she may still die of cancer at a young age. While Lip tries to tell her he’ll stick around, Tammi refuses to believe he’ll be a good father. She jumps back and forth between decisions about the unborn baby’s fate, first wanting to have an abortion, then deciding she’ll have the baby, then opting to put it up for adoption. In the end, we’re left wondering right alongside Lip what she’s going to do.
When Lip finally gets home, he finds Fiona packing her stuff. She reveals to him that she’s leaving and asks that he take care of everyone for her, metaphorically passing the baton. Lip agrees but insists they throw her a going away party. Fiona knows that if she stays for the party, she’ll never leave. And so, when everyone has left the house again, she sneaks out to the train station and then onto a plane, bags in tow. The scene beautifully parallels the Season 1 finale, in which Fiona almost left Chicago with then boyfriend Jimmy/Steve. The only difference is that this time, she goes through with it (and sadly, Jimmy/Steve is nowhere to be found).
Back at the house, the party goes on. As everyone drinks and dances, celebrating Fiona and the role she had in their lives, Debbie finds an envelope stuck to the fridge. In it is $50,000, half of the money Max gave Fiona, and a note that simply reads, “Love you.” And Veronica says it best when she reminds Debbie, “Yeah, she does.”
Looking back at this season, I realize I expected it to be like the earlier seasons — more outrageous, more dramatic. What I failed to realize is that Shameless can never be what it once was because the characters are no longer the same. They’re still Gallaghers at heart, yes, but they’re adults now and while they’re the same people, they aren’t the same family.
I think we started to see this shift in dynamics when Ian, played by Cameron Monaghan, went to prison and was no longer a regular on the show. He was barely mentioned by his siblings, and it seemed as if his sentencing had little to no effect on them — because it didn’t. I’m not saying that the Gallaghers are inherently selfish people, but they have their own separate lives. If it wasn’t for their monetary hardships, I think they’d all be living on their own right now, not in a shared house. As Fiona realized in this episode, they just don’t need each other anymore.
However, this doesn’t take away my frustration with the way Fiona has been treated for the entire second half of this season. Because in this episode alone, Debbie noticed Carl getting down on himself and refused to let him be upset for more than a day. And mind you, Carl was going through heartbreak, not being cheated on, cut out of a huge business deal, and a sudden alcohol dependency. The more I think about it, I feel like Fiona turned to alcohol because she couldn’t lean on anyone in her family.
This is why Fiona’s send off is so bittersweet to me. I’m ecstatic that she’s finally getting out and making a life for herself, but I’m heartbroken that she was pushed to do it because her family seemingly didn’t want her around anymore. Too bad she didn’t take Liam with her — he sure knows how she feels.
I hoped that this finale would be something unexpected and jaw dropping, but as I said previously, Shameless just isn’t that show anymore. Instead, Fiona left with a quiet and understated notion that this is her happy ending. She doesn’t need all the chaos and the trouble she thought she was addicted to. You can take the girl out of the Southside, and maybe, just maybe, you can take the Southside out of the girl too.
So what is Season 10 going to look like? Well, Fiona left half her money to her siblings. So maybe they’ll use it to get far away from each other and start their own lives too, as best they can manage with a little over 10K each at least. With no mention of Xan and Tammi constantly changing her mind about the baby, it’s hard to tell where Lip’s storyline is going. Debbie and Carl were left in relatively stable places at the end of the finale, and while Frank needs to be off his feet for the next few months, we all know that being the cockroach he is, he’ll come out the other side just fine (as fine as Frank can be, that is).
Perhaps the only promising aspect of the coming season is that Cameron Monaghan is set to return as a series regular, after only half a season being gone. Whether this means we’ll see him in prison with Mickey is yet to be revealed, but either way, I’m excited to see where his story goes.
For now though, I’d like to appreciate Emmy Rossum and her beautiful portrayal of the delightfully complex woman that is Fiona Gallagher. I’ve never seen a character quite like her, and I’ll forever be thankful for the smiles, laughs and tears she caused me while watching her on my screen. Truthfully, I’m nervous to see where this show goes without her. But regardless, there’s nine seasons telling the captivating story of Fiona to look back on. And though its on-screen end was quiet, I’d like to think it wouldn’t stay like that for long.
After all, if there’s anything we know about Fiona, it’s that she brings the party with her wherever she goes.
Jessica’s episode rating: 🐝🐝🐝.5

I'd really like a drabble related to that ask some anon sent you the other day about Xander getting a little jealous and insecure about Clarke when Ryder's born. 🤗
Here you go!! I hope you enjoy!!
Tumblr media
“C’mon, kid,” Raven says with a wave of her arm. She winks down at her niece, beaming with happiness. “It’s time to meet your little sister.”
“She’s here? Finally?” Xander asks with a chirp.
She’d been made to wait at home, Aunties Anya and Raven staying with her, when Mama had finally announced the baby was coming. That was last night just after supper.
“She’s here. Now get dressed and let’s go!” Raven says. “I want to meet my goddaughter!”
“Okay!”
“I’ll get some cereal ready for you,” Raven offers.
Xander’s head pokes out of her closet. “Or we could stop at that bakery and get donuts?”
“I like your style, kid,” Raven laughs and nods. She turns to head down the hallway, calling over her shoulder, “We can do that. So hurry up! I’m hungry and I want to meet the baby!”
“What’s her name?” Xander yells after her.
“They still haven’t told anyone! They want you to be the first to know!” Raven, at the top of the stairs now, shouts back.
Suddenly, Anya is standing in Xander’s doorway. “Do you think you two could talk to each other in the same room? So you don’t have to tell?”
“Nope!” Xander and Raven shout in unison.

“Mama!” Xander chirps as soon as she sees Clarke in the hospital bed. She scrambles up the side of the bed, settling near the end. “You’re okay? My sister too? And Mommy?”
“We’re all great, little one. Nothing to worry about at all!” Clarke says with as much energy as she could muster.
It is the truth after all. She is doing well, aside from the pains of post pregnancy. And Lexa... she has been amazing every step of the way.
“Mama? Where is Mommy?”
Fighting a yawn, Clarke holds a hand out to her daughter. When she finally scoots closer, Clarke replies, “they had to take your sister for a checkup. No worries. Mommy just went to make sure she can come right back.”
“Are you tired?” Xander asks.
“Of course she is, kid. She just pushed a baby out of her -” Raven starts to speak, finally stepping into the room after realizing Lexa isn’t there so she wouldn’t be ruining a family moment. She stops speaking when her wife pinches her side. “Ouch! Anya!”
“I should make you put 5 dollars in the swear jar just for considering saying what you were going to say.” Anya steps around her and bumps her with her hip. “Behave yourself.”
Xander tilts hers head and studies her aunts. Then she turns back to Clarke. “Mama?”
“Xander?”
“Do you want to take a nap?”
Clarke fights off another yawn. “No. I will after Mommy comes back. I’ll be okay.”
Thankfully, Lexa and the baby return a few minutes later. Clarke can barely keep her eyes open but she wants to be awake when Xander is introduced to her baby sister.
Raven and Anya press kisses to Lexa’s cheeks on their way out of the room, wanting to give the family a few minutes of privacy.
Inside, Lexa smiles dreamily at her wife and daughter on the hospital bed. “How are you feeling, my love?”
“I’m so tired, Lex.” Clarke replies with a dopey smile. “But I want to introduce Xander to her sister before I nap.”
“You’ll have to feed the baby too, she’s hungry again,” Lexa says.
“Just like her mommy,” Clarke teases her wife, the gleam of happiness evident in her eyes. At Lexa’s arched brow she giggles and winks. “She’s a boob girl.”
Xander has no idea what that means but at Lexa’s blushing cheeks, she joins in the laughter. Then the green bundle in her mommy’s arms moves and a little hand appears.
“Mommy?” Xander sits up straighter, trying to see more.
“Why don’t you sit up there with Mama and I’ll show you?” Lexa answers her unasked question.
Xander scrambles to the head of the bed, settling into Clarke’s side with a sigh. She wiggles her feet and smiles broadly as Lexa approaches.
“Alexandria Emilia Griffin-Woods, meet your baby sister,” Lexa says as she sits in the chair beside the bed, tilting the bundle so Xander can see the baby. “Her name is Ryder.”
“Ryder?” Xander repeats slowly.
Nodding, Lexa presses the softest of kisses to Ryder’s forehead. Then she stands just enough to kiss Xander’s cheek.
“Ryder Anya Griffin-Woods,” Clarke says softly, her arm moving around Xander’s shoulders to hug her. “What do you think?”
The little girl peers down at her sister and smiles. She lifts her eyes to her mommy, and then her mama, and she says, “I think I like being a big sister!”
*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*
It takes a few months for Xander to fully realize her life has changed forever. She doesn’t get to have quiet weekends with her moms to herself. She doesn’t get random Kork drop-ins at school. There are no more random trips to the precinct or the national park.
It isn’t that she’s mad at Ryder. Babies need attention. They need patience and love, just like Lexa had explained before Ryder was born.
Xander just hadn’t realized it meant no more time with Mama.
Or rather, much less time with Mama. And nearly no one-on-one time with her.
“Xander?” Lexa knocks on the doorframe of her daughter’s bedroom.
“Hi, Mommy!” Xander chirps.
Stepping into the room, Lexa closes the door behind her. She moves to sit on the bed next to Xander. “Are you okay?”
“Of course!”
“Well, I just noticed you told Mama you didn’t need her to read to you tonight.”
“Oh...”
Lexa reaches out to tuck back a lock of hair. She studies Xander for a moment before she asks, “Are you mad about something?”
“No!” She shakes her head emphatically.
“Then why would you tell Mama not to read to you?” Lexa asks. She tilts her head and pauses for a beat before she continues, “aren’t you in the middle of one of the Harry Potter’s? You never turn down Harry Potter. And you always want Mama to read to you.”
Xander’s eyes drop to her comforter. Her lips pout a bit before she pulls the bottom one between her teeth and bites down softly for a second it two.
“You know you can tell me anything, Xander.”
At her mother’s gentle words, tears flood her eyes. She sniffles and holds her arms out for a hug.
Lexa pulls Xander into her lap and rocks her gently. The little girl has never been much of a crier, never one for the dramatics if sobbing and wailing. So when a small choked sob comes out of Xander’s mouth, Lexa nearly starts to cry too.
It takes a solid 15 minutes of cooing and coaxing to calm Xander down. Lexa settles her back into her bed and kisses her forehead.
“Tell me what’s wrong?” She asks.
“Mama...” Xander says slowly. Then she shrugs. “I just miss spending time with Mama. I don’t get to see her anymore.”
“You just had dinner with her tonight.”
Xander shakes her head. “We don’t get to do fun stuff anymore. No visits or hikes or climbing. I miss my time with Mama. You still take me to the library! And the museums! But Mama... she’s always with Ryder now.”
“Oh, Xander...” Lexa sighs and shakes her head.
Jealousy.
They knew to expect it. They just thought Xander was too excited about having a sister to be jealous.
“I’m sorry I cried.”
“Never apologize for having feelings. And never try to hide your feelings from me.” Lexa shakes her head and hugs her again. “Xander, your mama loves you so, so much. You can’t even begin to know how much. But babies take a lot of time. And we haven’t got Ryder’s routine down yet. Once we do, you’ll have your Kork time back.”
“Yeah?” Xander asks.
“Absolutely,” Clarke says from the doorway. She’s got a swaddled Ryder in her arms.
2 sets of green eyes fly to the door. Lexa’s are soft and warm, Xander’s are more guarded.
She doesn’t want to upset Mama.
The caution in her eyes strikes at Clarke’s heart. Xander has never been anything but excited to see her.
“Lex, Ryder is ready for bed. If you wanted to sing to her, I mean,” Clarke says softly.
The exchange is smooth and practiced. Lexa kisses Clarke softly before heading down the hallway.
Clarke takes a moment to watch her wife disappear into Ryder’s room before turning back to Xander. She smiles and steps inside.
“Xan?”
“Mama?”
“I love you. You know that?”
Xander nods and drops her eyes again.
“I don’t want you to ever think I don’t love you. Or that I don’t have time for you,” Clarke explains as she sits where Lexa had just been. She holds out a hand for Xander to take. “I’m just getting used to this whole baby thing. It was easy with you, you know? You already had Mommy trained when I came along. Now we all have to be trained by Ryder.”
“I miss my Kork time.”
“Good. Because I miss my Xander time.” Clarke responds. She winks when Xander meets her eyes. “Just let us figure out this whole routine thing and then you and I will have our time again.”
“You promise?”
“I do.” Clarke nods. “I’ll talk to Mommy and we’ll figure out a schedule.”
“Really?”
“Xander, I love you to the moon and back. I’m not giving up my Xander time! Not ever!”
