It's a lot more than just POA. From a Facebook group I'm in:
Ladybird deed or transfer on death deed for real estate property which can have this assigned. This completes the process of transfer automatically upon death, much quicker and with less hassle than probating a will which can take months or years. These are the local names in Texas; other states probably have similar concepts with different names. Generally speaking the TODD is the stronger of the two but there are some cases where the Ladybird is the better choice.
Trust for your money
Will for everything else you own that you care about the fate of
Physician Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment - this is kind of like a DNR in that it allows you to express in advance what kind of treatments you do and don't want performed on you if you're incapacitated to make your own decisions, but much broader in scope. Especially important if you have a chronic illness or condition that is liable to eventually result in decline to this point (e.g. dementia)
Power of attorney AND medical power of attorney (two separate things)
Adoption, legal guardianship and other documentation to protect parental status if you have kids not of major age - especially if they are stepkids/you're not already on the birth certificate
Dispensation of remains if you have a poor relationship with your biological family, to ensure they don't get to plan your funeral
Talk to a lawyer to ensure that you both have everything needed/possible for your state and local area.
Also - if you are worried about dying (either because you are old, ill/disabled, or just figure you're at a higher risk of hate crimes now), you have considerable outstanding debt (more than a few thousand dollars), and you want to protect your beneficiaries, start prioritizing your finances to pay that down. In many cases, upon death, outstanding debt is obligated to be paid out of the estate's value, meaning they can force your would-be beneficiaries to sell things like your house, your car, and other valuables and pay with that money if there's not enough money already in the bank. Medicaid can also do this shit to your ass, watch out for that. It's called the Medicaid Estate Recovery Plan and applies to a lot of long term care provided via Medicaid. It's not enacted if there is a living spouse or a child under 21 (as well as in other extenuating circumstances with a higher burden of proof) but if your spouse is no longer technically considered your spouse by the government it can affect what they inherit from you. The Ladybird/TODD mentioned above protects the property it transfers from this process.
Before January 2025:
If you are a USAmerican in a relationship that might be affected by legislation that dissolves same-sex marriages, who may no longer be recognized as next-of-kin, especially if you have children, get your rights in writing!
Your marriage certificate may not be enough to prove you have rights to make medical decisions for non-biological children or for a same-sex spouse or partner.
Go to a lawyer, get it spelled out as clearly as possible that you have a voice in emergency medical and legal situations.

Ninjago AU Headcannons
so obviously, this includes OC content. if you don't like OCs, don't read that part/ignore other hc ig?
anyway, this is for my AU of Ninjago, Echoes of the Echoed. The timeline is set to be between Crystalized (s16) and Dragons Rising Season 1. So there shouldn't be any spoilers?
this is just a bunch of random hcs I have for the ninja (and Hanna) in my AU. some of these are adapted from other people, some of them are mine.
Kai
he has naturally straight hair so he uses curlers to put wave in it. by curlers, i mean the ones your grandma uses overnight. he also sleeps in a bonnet
bro wears eyeliner. not a lot, but when asked he will admit to it.
he knows how to cook a meal and is probably the best chef (minus Zane bc Zane is goated) but doesn't like to cook
he is terrified of bugs. any kind of bug, it doesn't matter. he doesn't want to look at them, he doesn't want to be near him, and if he was alone in the monastery and found a spider, the entire thing would be up in flames.
when he gets spooked, sometimes fire will shoot out of his shoulders.
when someone on the team is upset or struggling with smth, he forces them to do self care nights with him
he paints his nails black or red
he's an insomniac, has been since his parents left. it got better around s11 but still struggles with it. when he can't sleep he likes to do blacksmithing. nya and pixal set up a station in the X Cave for him to do it quietly.
Jay
adhd, adhd, adhd, adhd, adhd, adhd-
he doesn't know what his biological mother looks like and he likes to try and imagine it.
the reason his hair curled after s7 is bc of puberty. some people's hair gets curly :/
when he uses his powers his spine will glow blue and have offshoots of the same color that look like lightning. it's sick af
he always carries his yin medallion with him. he might be wearing it, he may be holding it, it may be chillin in his pocket, but it's always on him.
after the events of s15 and then after s16, jay brags about how easy it was for him to grow a beard. it pisses lloyd off.
the eye that he hurt in Skybound(s6) is ever so slightly a lighter shade of blue than his other eye. sometimes it still hurts him and on those days it looks bloodshot and he wears an eye patch.
his favorite kind of art is watercolors.
he's got a wicked spice tollerance
Cole
he forced Zane to teach him how to cook basic things. but, he is a very skilled baker naturally
he's great with kids bc he lets them swing off his arms like monkey bars
cole is black and bc his dad never did, kai taught him how to take care of his hair.
he likes having long hair bc it covers his scar from when he was a ghost.
right after becoming human again, he kept forgetting he wasn't a ghost and kept running into walls and doors
he has seriously considered becoming a streamer
cole is terrified of singing because his mother used to sing him to sleep.
Zane
sometimes he feels what pixal is feeling bc they share a heart
even after nya came back in s16, zane didn't turn on his emotions again until nya convinced him too. he then cried for three hours straight.
he will laugh without hesitation at a dad joke. he will also crack up as he's trying to tell a dad joke
he still has pictures lloyd drew him in s1 until childs play.
he's easily annoyed by people who break traffic laws.
he rarely swears, but swore more when he was pretending to be a pirate in s15.
after figuring out him roleplaying a detective in s12 annoyed Pixal, he downloads and roleplays things for other missions they are on together. like the pirate thing in s15.
he lets kai paint his nails
Nya
unlike kai, her hair is naturally wavy and she used to straighten it from the pilot-s7. then she kinda gave up.
she decided to grow out her hair bc she wanted to look more like her mother, but then hated having hair against her neck all the time and started putting it up.
she can bench press jay and she has a sleeper build
she gets pissed when she sees someone in the arcade getting close to her and jay's high score on the dance machine
she's a light sleeper
she's terrified of snakes
when she's upset about something, she will either beat the shit out of the training equipment (then proceed to fix in in a huff) or just build random things
she's seriously considered building jay a robot dog. but she never went through with it
Lloyd
when he's really happy, sleeping, or meditating, he purrs.
he's got freckles that look like diamonds bc of the dragon scale thing
hes got fangs, his ears are pointed, and when he's pissed or enamored by something his eyes turn red. naturally, his pupils are a bit pointer, aren't as round basically
lloyd knew about his oni form before the events of s16 but never told anyone. he's known about it since s9 when he had a nightmare and woke up to see himself half-shifted in the mirror. he asked mistake about it, she explained, he asked her to not tell anyone, and she didn't. neither did he.
he likes mints because he likes hard candies better, gives him something to fidget with
he's always bustling with energy bc of his element. he can't sit still for the life of him.
he can still control the individual elements of creation as well as water and wind. he found out he could control wind after s5 and he could control water after s15.
when he uses his powers, his eyes glow whatever color they are (red or green) for up to an hour afterwards.
he has super hearing and super smell. he can also partially see in the dark if theres just a little bit of light
he hates ants
he has consistent nightmares. nearly every night. unlike the visions in DR, he doesn't flail for his nightmares, just jolts awake.
he loves photography and has many professional grade cameras. he likes it because he gets to hold memories.
when he's upset at someone, he unconsciously switches to yelling at them in Oni language.
he can understand and read the Harmonizer language but can't speak or write it.
Hanna
she's filthy rich. her parents own a very successful real estate business and a shipping company
she doesn't talk to her parents and doesn't like talking about them
she has an accent bc of being part Harmonizer but she hides it bc it led to a lot of people not understanding her. the closest thing it sounds like irl is a Russian accent.
she sometimes talks in the Harmonizer language, especially if she's frustrated or sleeping.
she can understand and read the Oni language.
after shifting to full harmonizer the first time, the black and gold lines on her skin became visible when human if your close enough to see them
she requires no form of skin care but still joins kai for skin care nights.
she has bad periods and struggles with migraines bc of her powers
she could feel something was off before the crystal king formed in s16. she has a scar on her knuckle from where she punched harumi in the face
she loves sports bikes. she liked going fast and breaking traffic laws. but, safety is her top priority even for herself and never goes out without making sure her and any backpacks are in full gear.
after s15, she had a lot of anxiety attacks
she knew about Lloyd's oni form bc she accidentally walked in on him one day he struggled to mask it.
she is also really good with kids
she heals pretty quickly bc of being part harmonizer, and because of that, most of the wounds she gets scars over.
she hates being in the spotlight
so thats them, let me know what you think. should I do more hcs? let me know ab that too. uhh
hope you enjoyed :D

Baby Kenobi
i donât know how to write serious summaries/synopses, so you get this: obi-wan gets ambushed with the daughter he didnât know he fathered while sheâs roaming the galaxy looking for mama in a sort of reverse finding nemo. shenanigans and accidental fix-its ensue.
warning for below the cut: none that i can think of, aside from an extremely confused narrator
Stitchup hates everything about this.
âLook, sir, weâre just travelers,â he insists to the trio of bounty hunters, simultaneously glad for and resenting that this mission required he be in civilian clothes and not his plastoid shell. Behind him, General Kenobi is calm and still, letting Stitchup be the focus of the standoff. After all, Stitchup might have a face thatâs repeated by a few billion others, but that can be fixed with a bit of contouring â and the hunters are from a race of sentients that are wired more for overarching shapes than small details, meaning his voice is the thing most likely to give him away as a clone in this situation. Jedi High General Obi-Wan Kenobi, on the other hand â his face is far more singular, and his accent is very distinct, which means he has a much higher chance of being recognized if he speaks up.
The hunters buzz, clearly unconvinced. âSure,â the lead hunter says, the translator at their throat crackling faintly. âListen, bucko, you canât seriously think weâre that stupid. General Kenobiâs ship crashed here, and I canât think of any other reason for a clone trooper to be here. Can you?â
Motherfucker. Heâs been suppressing his accent, dammit! âIâm not a trooper,â he tries, knowing his General is about to do something idiotic if he canât de-escalate and get them out of here. âIâm just a traveling doctor,â he says levelly. âThatâs all.â
The lead hunter buzzes again, derision dripping from their stance. They take a step closerâ
âPapa,â a young voice says, and only sheer professionalism save Stitchup from jumping about a mile in the air. He turns to see a small humanoid girl trotting up to General Kenobi with Great Purpose, going right up to him and tugging on his sleeve. âPapa,â she says again, a soft, chirping rumble beneath her voice. âI canât find the right tools â theyâre all for droids ân engines.â
To Stitchupâs utter shock, General Kenobi doesnât miss a single beat before playing along, bending down to meet the girl and chirping back.
âThatâs alright, Anate,â he says gently, his Coruscanti accent somehow completely gone and replaced with something else. âWeâll just keep looking, yes?â Then he makes this â crooning, trilling sound, and the girl responds in kind with a warbling purr.
âOkay,â the girl says, reaching out her arms when General Kenobi stands in the universal request to be picked up. Again, General Kenobi plays along as flawlessly as if the two of them had rehearsed this beforehand, scooping her into his arms and settling her against his chest with a quiet âHup!â She makes another purring noise, shuffling as best as she can to get more comfortable, then finally turns her attention to Stitchup and the bounty hunters. âHi,â she says, peering at the hunters past thick, feathery white hair that covers half her face. âAre you policemen?â
The droning buzz of the hunters is, this time, very clearly uncomfortable. âPolicemen,â the hunter on the left echoes carefully, stepping forward and crouching, their blaster holstered in the same movement. âSorry, kid, my translator doesnât recognize that. Wanna tell me what that means?â
#baby kenobi#baby kenobi first drafts#character: Fujioka Tsukiko#character: Obi-Wan Kenobi#character: clone medic Stitchup#pov: stitchup#i dunno how everybody else finds out that obi-wan has a kid#all i know is that anakin specifically blows a g-ddamn GASKET when he does#because. what. what??? what do you MEAN you have a biological child???#that's his out-loud knee-jerk reaction anyway#inwardly he is also going Oh Shit I'm Being Replaced#this is not helped by the fact that tsukiko doesn't seem to like him all that much . . .#she keeps scrunching up her nose when she sees him?? the kark's up with that??#tsukiko meanwhile is thinking to herself 'why the fuck does he smell like stale blood'#(he smells like stale blood because of the tusken massacre. only she doesn't know that. and nobody else will for a while#it's just gonna be a neat little secret percolating on the back of the plot-stove for a little bit it's fine)#I CANT BELIEVE I FORGOT TO SAY THIS PEOPLE ASKED WHEN I POSTED ON DISCORD#âanateâ is not actually her name. uh. as evidenced by the character tag#originally it was like a bastardized form of âanataâ âcause tsukiko speaks japanese#but then i went âoh yeah obi-wan wouldnât know thatâ#so now itâs a generic stewjoni word for like. âlittle girlâ but affectionate#anyway yeah. tsukiko does in fact give her real name later

"The Knight Of Dawn being a near exact copy of Silver is lazy!" You absolutely think the curtains are just blue, don't you?
#Y'all are free to call me crazy BUT#If Yana went out of her way to design KoD to be an exact replica of his son when that isn't the case for ANY OTHER Parent-Child Pair#Don't you think that was intentional?#If they are the only odd pair out don't you think that means something? Or are the curtain's just blue to you?#TKoD is an antithesis to Silver. He is everything Silver could/would have been had he not been put to sleep and adopted by Lilia#THAT is why TKoD is Silver but with longer blonder hair. Because he's supposed to be an undesirable outcome for Silver#A dog forever chained to his master's side without the courage to act on his own sense of what's right and wrong#Only when he isn't under the eyes of those he owes his life to and hold that above his head the does TKoD do what he knows is right#He lets Lilia escape with Malleus during his fight with Meleanor. In the middle of battle he gives the innocence a chance for life#And he's only allowed to do so because Henrik isn't there to interfere. Because for once he can act on his own morals and help someone#So when we see the Knight of Dawn next to Silver we aren't supposed to see a father and his son#We're supposed to see what Silver COULD have been had he not been raised by Lilia. Had he been raised to be a tool instead of an individual#A right his biological father was never able to obtain for himself#I guess this is the hill I'm dying on now. DPxDC prompt: Danny is Chronos' first child.
Well, not his first child biologically, to be completely honest.
It just so happened that the Phantom very often helped/helps/will help Clockwork at different times and his presence next to the titan required an explanation.
And the opportunity to call Zeus a little brother is worth a lot, right? So when the Ancient came up with this idea Phantom did not resist just to have such a pleasant bonus from their cooperation.
However, in the time of the gods and heroes, such a solution was not a problem. But in modern times, when Phantom tries to attract as little attention as possible in order to graduate from university, such relatives are more likely to cause a lot of problems.
~~~~~
Wonder Woman: Uncle Danny?
Superman, who wanted to chase away a teenager serenely strolling through still smoking battlefield, turns to Wonder Woman, who is waving affably at excactly this guy.
Well, Fenton honestly happened to be in Fawcett City by accident, and it just so happened that by chance it was on this sunny and cloudless day that the villains decided to cause riots worthy of the attention of the founders of the Justice League.
Danny: Diana! My dear, it seems like we really haven't seen each other not for a long time! In what century was it? Ah, I honestly, I barely remember it... The speed at which children grow up defies the laws of time. I mean, look at you! Your mother must be so proud. How's Dad? Still not paying child support, arrogant bastard?
Wonder Woman: Oh, uncle, please. I'm all grown up now, don't worry about me.
Danny: Hm, well, let's get back to this question later. I didn't want to embarrass you in front of your friends. Anyway, would you like to introduce them, little princess?
Wonder Woman: Of course, meet Kal El, Batman, and Shazam. The rest of the guys have already returned to our base. Would you like to...
Danny: Ooh, you're talking about, um... What do you young people call it? The Justice League, right? During my youth, the heroes rarely united and mostly performed all the feats alone. It's good that you help each other, kids.
Danny flies up a little to pat Superman and Batman on the head.
Under the Diana's gaze full of hope that they will get along with her uncle, the men do not move.
In the background:
Red Hood and Robin who used to hang out with Danny near the Lazarus pits: *sounds of seagulls dying of laughter*
~~~~~
Flash: So you're Diana's uncle?
Danny: Yes, call me Danny.
Flash: Cool, cool...
Danny: What does the temperature have to do with it? Do you need ice? Let me make some for you.
Flash: No, it's like,um, I didn't know that Zeus has a younger brother with that name. So, it's good to know?
Danny: Hmm, thanks. Many people tell me that I look quite young, hah. But actually I'm his older brother, so...
Flash: Older? Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to disrespect.
Danny: No, it's all right. It's "cool". I rarely appear on the pages of your human myths and legends, I know it. After all this business about Chronos devours his own children, my father punished me for a long time. So, yeah...It's a funny story.
Flash: Punished for what? How?
Danny: Uh, sitting in a room at a time when there is no Internet or electricity is not fun at all. You see, I just didn't want a younger brother or sister because I was afraid that my parents would pay less attention to me. So, I made up this stupid prophecy and persuaded Gaea to tell it in order to remain the only child in the family. My father would never have thought that I would decide to kill him, that's why...Phah, it's just a bad family story. In 10 thousand years, we'll all laugh about it.
Flash: Yeah, that's... funny.
~~~~
Danny *is woken up by an emergency call from the League at three in the morning, although he fell asleep at two o'clock* (he gave his contact so as not to upset his niece): I knew this would happen! I knew it!
~~~~
Billy Batson *stands in his human form in front of the Justice League and doesn't know what to say*,*sweating nervous*.
Danny *enters the hall*: What's up, mortals, Diana and...Batman? My father said that there is something that I have to be here for. Oh! Well, at least someone in this family is also a shapeshifter. Have you decided to make a younger form so that your uncle doesn't feel lonely? What a good boy! Usually everyone is so afraid to seem like children, once they turn a couple of centuries old. Ah, youth~
Billy: Yeah, I decided to..experiment? and it seems I got stuck by accident.
Danny: It's okay, Uncle Danny will help you. Come on, let's go...
~~~~
Danny *teleports them to the Fawcett City*.
Billy: ....
Danny:
Billy: Hey, I'm still stuck!
A new portal opens and a man in a purple cape hands Billy a note. "Go to Constantine. P.S., my son always completes all assignments only by half, sorry." written on it.
Billy: Oh... OoOhHh!!!
~~~~
Meanwhile, Constantine, who is forced to do additional work: Son of a bi... beloved and respected Master of Time.
Danny: Yeap, that's me.
Constantine: Damn it. Couldn't you just let Batman adopt him like in other timelines?
Danny: And where's the fun in that?

You people are so easy lol
Mizuki and Date though like. Imagine being 8 and your parents are filthy rich and going through a bad divorce. Your mom treats you like shit, lashing out at you, hitting you, saying she wishes you were never born all because you were behaving like a child. Your dad is more comforting, but he doesnât do anything to stop the abuse and he spends his time invested in a completely different family, a girl who you love and look up to but he loves her more than you and it fucking shows. Then your dads new friend, some fucking bachelor in his late 20s, is just like "wow you guys are the worst fucking parents ive ever seen" and next thing you know your dad is sending you off to live with him. And itâs just a massive kick in the head cuz you go from a rich lifestyle to living in some really shitty tiny ass apartment with this guy whoâs clearly never been around a child in his entire life and he doesnât know how to behave and does a really bad job of censoring himself like he has a bunch of dirty magazines that he canât hide very well cuz itâs literally a studio apartment and also he talks to himself sometimes, itâs really weird. He doesnât even have the slightest clue what heâs doing
And heâs the best parent youâve ever had
Because fuck, it all really hurts. You have to cope with having never received any love from anyone, and with the fact that your parents clearly donât want you and canât even be bothered to send you with anyone even kinda responsible. And this guy has a scary job with crazy hours and you donât know anything about him and neither does he. But still, he never once hits you or tells you youâre not allowed to cry. He just gives you space and doesnât push you to feel any sort of way about him. And sometimes, heâs even kind. He makes you some stew, even though itâs a bit chunky. He lets you sleep in the bed and takes the couch for himself, even though he complains about the massive back pain heâd never trade his spot for a second. He pays attention to events at your school and gives you your favorite stuffed animal when you make good grades, even though you called it ugly. He gets worried sick when you come home with bruises and puts on a goofy voice and trains you to defend yourself and you develop some highly deadly skills and even though itâs really abnormal, he buys you a bench press so you can get stronger. Thereâs this distance there, and you feel really weird caring about someone who you arenât related to, but you find yourself wishing it was meant to be like this all along, that maybe, heâs secretly your real dad and he loves you like his real daughter
And when you say "Iâm back" he says "welcome home"
#you can just say âdate found familyâ and all the gays will be like WWWWEEEWOWOOWOEOWOOOOWWOOOOO#and its correct every time im one of them#these bitches are sickening absolutely sickening#i dont think i said anything too special here like nothing no ones said 50 times before already but i do wanna emphasize something here#date is a good dad he is a kind figure he cares for mizuki and puts in effort that her bio parents simply dont#i feel like with a mix of flanderization between fans and aini date is just remembered as an incompetent loser who jerks off and thats that#and its like yeah hes lame and makes penis jokes its stupid but i mean hes a pretty complex character#hes the protagonist of a mystery story and the center of the whole conflict and like is a smart guy#and he has big feelings like the whole theme is about love and untraditional families and date being kinda a loser is the point#its about redemption and love being what keeps us going and how someone who feels he is undeserving of love and family can still have those#things and the traditional structure of families means nothing#the okiuras being a nuclear heterosexual biological family is very much the point and them being so dysfunctional is the point#and the fact that date is a significantly better parent to mizuki than they are is something neither of them know how to deal with#because theyre taught that you have to stick to the script and whatever they have going on isnt allowed to be real and loving#and idk the fact that date is someone whos always had nothing and feels like thats how it should stay its like#that some pretty big shit right there some pretty complex emotions to have and yeah if i gotta deal with date being reduced to a porno freak#who is too irresponsible to take care of a child im gonna eat glass#it really sucks they went that direction in aini god it sucks so hard its like did they even pay attention to their own fucking story ughhh#yeah im writing the Kaname date defense case what about it

The 2nd Headless Haunting: Alas
The whole Conjoined Thing made the boys assume that they'd always die together. It made biological sense. That's how it was supposed to happen. And besides, the other alternative was incredibly terrifying in a nearly unthinkable way (even though they both agreed that it would make for an absolutely fabulous gothic horror stage play). So when they were carried out of the theater and rushed to the hospital, there was a strange sort of comfort blanketing all the pain and fear that at least they were together for whatever happened next.
Jeremiah died that night. Johnathan died five and a half years later.
Kind of.
They'd both had a lot of time to think after Miah "moved out" (moved on didn't feel entirely appropriate for some reason. Probably because his torso was still. You know. There.), but it seems that their separate introspections synced up enough that when John's heart finally gave out and they saw each other on different sides of The Tunnel they silently stared through the dark for a good long while before both brothers turned back the way they came.
They'll meet again someday. Despite what a few incredibly dramatic screaming fights as teenagers would tell you, they do love each other. No longer being physically conjoined didn't mean that their bond was broken, or even weakened. They just both independently decided to have a little more alone time.
John now spends his undead career being an appropriately spooky Omen, haunting the theater scene, and serving as a psychopomp for broken child stars and disabled entertainers. He also wears his bother's head, keeping it tied to his neck with a thick ribbon of hair. Miah was always the prettier twin in John's opinion, and the entire body is his now so why not? If he's feeling really spooky (or generally Emotionally Weird, it's hard to tell the difference with him) he carries around his head Yorik style and alternates talking through them both.
You know. Normal theater kid stuff.

Writing Prompt #14
"You foolish, stupid child," Vlad hisses, pinning Danny to the wall. Danny's eyes turn green as he wraps both his fists around the one Vlad has clenched in his collar, his feet dangling in the air. Vlad leans in, his own eyes burning red.
"When, exactly, did you plan on telling me your biological father was Bruce Wayne?" he says furiously.
Danny's hands drop in surprise. "W-What?" he gasps.
Vlad drops him unceremoniously and he lands on the floor in a heap. Vlad claws at the air in frustration.
"Don't lie to me, boy." Vlad says, omitting his often used possessive "my" in front of "boy".
"How do you know that?" Danny asks warily, propping himself up. He watches Vlad push a shaking hand through his hair. The man looks down at him before dropping in an ungainly squat beside him.
"Of all the sperm donors, Bruce Wayne, Daniel? Really?" The man asks, despairingly.
"I didn't exactly choose him, Vlad."
"No, I suppose you didn't."
"Seriously," Danny says, watching the man rock back on his heels as a growing pit forms in his stomach. "How did you know about him?"
Vlad's mouth twists bitterly. "Because he now knows about you."
"What do youâ"
"Vladdy! Danno! What are the two of you doing on the floor?" Jack flops down beside them, a tray of freshly prepared fudge in his hands. "We having a heart-to-heart boys? Let me in on this!"
"Jack," Vlad says. "If you truly want to have a heart-to-heart with your son, I suggest you tell him the real reason I've come over today."
Jack's face falls.
"Vlad," Maddie says from behind him. "Thank you for coming. We're grateful for all you've done, but I think we can handle it from here."
"Madeline," Vlad says, rushing to his feet. "I must insistâ"
"And I must insist you see yourself out," Maddie smiles tightly. "You know where the door is, don't you?"
"Mads," Jack says gently, looking between the two.
"I can show him out," Danny says, getting up as well.
"That's alright, Danny," Maddie says. "Why don't you go get your sister? We need to have a talk...as a family."
Danny glances at Vlad.
"Now, Danny," Maddie says. Danny heads for the stairs, pit growing ever larger.
--
The next time they meet it is Danny who has Vlad pinned, the gaudy chandelier above him shaking with the force of his rage.
"You should've told me," Danny growls.
"I thought your parents had you informed," Vlad says, utterly unbothered by the teen cracking what is thankfully not a load-bearing wall of his mansion. "Honestly Daniel, we could throw around allegations of deception on both sides, particularly mine as I assume you've known for quite some time now, if not the entire time, about your father hmm?"
Danny's eyes flick away in an obvious tell.
"Yes, I thought as much. But rather than whinging about being blindsided, I suggest we focus our energy on the solution."
Danny drops Vlad, barely biting back a snarl when the man lands gracefully on both feet.
"Which is?" Danny asks.
"First of all, your well-meaning but frankly moronic parents seem to believe that they can make a case for your custody without the assistance of my legal team. It is in both of our best interests to dissuade them of this."
"They don't like feeling indebted, Mom in particular."
"Well, to be crude for a moment Daniel, tough shit. Yes," Vlad says in response to Danny's widening eyes, "I said it. Bruce Wayne has the best of the best on his payroll and your parent's rinky-dink attorney from the local practice won't stand a chance against Friedman & Sons. Especially once he establishes paternity."
"He can do that?" Danny asks. "I mean I'm almost eighteen, can't I just refuse?"
"The keyword here, Daniel, is almost. As in, you are not. The judge can take your wishes into consideration, but I suspect Wayne will make a case for an unsafe living environment alongside his paternity to win his petition for full custody."
"Un-unsafe living environment?" Danny sputters. Vlad eyes the boy dryly before gesturing to all of him, currently clad in silver and black hazmat. Danny drops the transformation with a wince.
"In fact, I suspect that's the main reason the man filed in the first place," Vlad continues. "Lord knows he doesn't need anymore heirs to fight over his fortune once he passesâ"
"Jesus, Vlad,"
"âso I believe he did some digging and found your home to be, well, wanting. On paper, Daniel, your parents sound eccentric at best, dangerous at worst. Pull the right strings, and hospital records just fall into laps. He probably thinks he's rescuing you." Vlad sneers. "If only he knew how quick you are to spit in the face of one offering you a comfortable and wealthy home."
"Fuck off," Danny says. "Is that what this is about? If you can't have me, no one can?"
Vlad rolls his eyes. "Come now, Daniel. Are you really intending to keep up this pretense?"
"What are you talking about?"
"We agreed a long time ago that no matter the nature of our quarrel, we would leave the Justice League out of it," Vlad says, taking a menacing step forward. "You think I, running in the circles I do, would have no knowledge of Bruce Wayne's alter-ego?" He takes another step, voice rising. "I have avoided drawing The Batman's attention for years, no matter how often our paths crossed. I stayed under his radar for decades, and now, BECAUSE OF YOU, I AM ABOUT TO BE RUINED."
With a creak and a groan, the chandelier drops, landing between them with a crash. Danny coughs from the dust as Vlad takes a heaving, calming breath.
"Then why get involved at all?" Danny asks, staring at the ground.
Vlad sighs, clapping his hands twice. Several ghosts dressed in service uniforms fly out the woodwork, gathering up bits of chandelier as others begin to mop.
"Because, little badger," Vlad says, walking away from the mess. "If we lose this, he'll have you in the palm of his hands. Which is infinitely worse."
Entering the kitchen, he pulls an open bottle of white out of the kitchen fridge and pours himself a glass, throwing a Fiji water to Danny who takes it for the peace offering it is.
"He won't."
"Won't what, Daniel? Please speak in full sentences."
"Won't have me," Danny says, letting a thin coat of frost spread over the bottle. He tips the freezing cold water into his mouth and wipes his face with his sleeve, mostly to see Vlad grimace.
"Why, because you'll run away if he wins? Until you turn eighteen? I won't have you fail to complete your education because of a cockamamie scheme, Danielâ"
"Because I have a solution, Vlad, one that doesn't involve the courts or running away."
"And what is that, exactly, Daniel?"
--
"You're going to leave my family alone."
"Danny," Mr. Wayne says, blinking in surprise at the boy on his doorstep and miles away from Illinois.
"I mean it," Danny says firmly. "You're going to drop your petition and whatever smear campaign you were planning on and leave the Fentons alone."
"Danny...why don't you come inside?"
Danny takes a step back from the manor's large doors. "You want a relationship with me? Brute force isn't the answer."
Bruce takes in the teenager, lanky but almost to his eye level. His eyes are clear and sharp, his demeanor forcibly calm.
"I debated whether going through the court was the right thing to do," Bruce says slowly, matching calm with calm. "But I wanted to be above board."
"Because my adoption wasn't?" Danny says, arms crossed. "Yeah, I'm aware. Kinda hard to adopt a kid that doesn't legally exist. And I know what you're going to say, the Fentons should've reported me to the system, but they didn't do it because I begged them not to. Because I didn't want my biological parents to find me."
"Danny..."
"You can swing your dick around and get your way, exactly the way I thought you would do things," Danny says, "Or you can have a relationship with me on my terms. A relationship where I don't despise you because you took me away from the people who've loved me no matter their faults."
"You're asking me to choose your happiness over your safety." Bruce says carefully.
"That's bullshit," Danny says. "I had a lab accident when I was fourteen and went directly against my parents' instructions. They trusted me, and I made a mistake."
"It's not a matter of trust. You were a child, Danny, and you almost died." Bruce says, not bothering to feign ignorance. Footsteps echo behind him.
"Bruce?" A voice calls. "Is that..?"
"Your son did die," Danny says. "He took a flight with your credit card to Ethiopia and got blown up. I bet you trusted him too."
Bruce reels back as a hand lands on his shoulder, the other on the door.
"Whoa, whoa, uh, Danny, right? I'm Tim, I'mâ"
"I know who you are," Danny says, clenching his fists. Powering through the hurt he is causing. "I didn't come here to point out what a total hypocrite you are. I just want you to back off. And if you give me your number, we can text and I'll come to Gotham for Thanksgiving or the ski chalet in Vermont or your villa in where-the-fuck-ever and you can be Uncle Bruce that I maybe even tolerate being around once in a while. Just leave my family alone."
"Bruce, what is he talking about?" Tim asks. "Back off of what?"
"Your Dad is suing my parents for full custody," Danny says when it becomes clear Bruce isn't answering.
"What?" Tim hisses, turning to Bruce. "That isn't what we talked about!"
"Danny. I..."
"Here," Danny says, thrusting an index card forward that he's scrawled his phone number and email onto. On the other side is the past participle conjugation for 'venir'. "I won't answer until you drop the custody petition. Which I expect you to do by tomorrow morning."
"Done," Tim says, stepping past Bruce and taking the card. "Give me about noon to get it all squared away with the lawyers. Do you have a hotel? A way home? I'd be happy to reimburse your flight and accommodation."
"Overstepping already."
"Fair enough," Tim says coolly, raising his hands. "Our lawyers will reach out when it's settled."
"Great. Bye." Danny says, turning to leave. He waits until he hears the manor door close behind him before pulling out his cell phone.
Ring!
Ring!
"Hello?"
"It's done."
"What's done? Again, little badger, full sentences, I beg of you."

Carnival
Mary Earps x Child!Reader
Summary: Mary takes you to the carnival
Lockdown was both the bane of Mary's existence and the best thing in the world.
The worst thing because it meant confusion and fear and no football for a while. The best thing because it brought her you.
She fostered at first before moving to adoption when she found that she couldn't be parted from you.
With the lockdowns tentatively over now, things had started opening up again.
Like the carnival.
"They're rigged," You tell her.
You're still little but you speak well for your age, well advanced when compared to any of your peers.
"Rigged?" Mary laughs," Where've you heard that word?"
"I read it," You say," In a book."
"Oh. I forgot I was taking a genius out."
You make a little noise of acknowledgement before turning back to the carnival game.
It's most definitely rigged.
All of them are.
This one is one of those basketball toss games where you know the ring is only just wide enough for the ball to get through. If the throw isn't perfect then it'll hit the rim and bounce away.
Mary is looking at it with concentration though and you snag her belt loops, tugging lightly.
You hadn't meant to stop in the first place but you'd caught sight of one of the prizes.
One shot in got you a keychain.
Two shots got you a little inflated ball.
Three in meant the prize was a small toy.
Four was a medium sized toy.
Five was a big toy.
The big toys are displayed at the very top of the game. A lot of them a bears or big puppies but a handful of them are birds. They're in lots of different colours.
Yellow seems to be the most prominent colour but then it's pink. The one that caught your eye is blue though.
You like the look of it a lot but you also know the odds of winning it are slim to none.
Five perfect shots in a row is very difficult especially when the backing board behind the hoop is angled at a way that means if the ball hits it, it won't go into the hoop in the slightest.
"Mary," You say, tugging," Let's go."
Mary doesn't move though. "You want the bird?"
"Yes."
"Then let's try."
"No."
"You don't even want to try?"
You shake your head, scuffing your foot into the dirt. "It's not worth it, Mary."
"Would it make you happy though?"
"Yes."
"Then let's try."
"But-"
"Come on, birdie," Mary says," We'll try a few rounds and if we get it, we get it but if not that's fine too."
It costs five pounds for five balls and Mary fails abysmally for her first round.
It stokes something in her though, especially when your eyes dart away from the toy with every missed shot.
You've had a rough go of it, Mary thinks as she pays for another few rounds. Before her, you'd had a failed adoption. The couple had wanted you but then the wife had gotten pregnant and they realised what they actually wanted was a biological child.
It had fallen through and you'd bounced for a few days before being fostered by Mary.
She'd worked hard with you on understanding that she wasn't going to abandon you. She'd worked hard to get you to accept her as a maternal role in your life.
But that illusive word still evaded her.
She didn't need it, not truly. She knew what you thought of her and you knew what she thought of you.
She'd do anything for your happiness, including draining her bank to win you this stupid blue bird.
Your eyes had lit up when you'd seen it but you seemed fairly realistic for such a little kid.
These games were rigged but Mary refuses to let that stop her.
You want this stupid bird.
She'll get you this stupid bird.
Her hands are sweaty as she grabs her last ball. The others, surprisingly, have all gone in after nearly fifteen rounds of this stupid carnival game and it slowly dawns on her that this is the last shot.
She wipes her hands on her shirt.
"Mary?" You say and she looks down at you," Are you okay?"
"I'm just fine, birdie. One last shot and we can get your bird."
You glance down bashfully, fingers still threaded around her belt loop. "It's okay if you can't make it. We can go on the teacups instead."
Mary frowns, dropping to her knee so she can cradle your cheek in one of her big hands. "You don't want the bird?"
"I do," You say," But...I don't want you to feel bad if you can't get it in."
"Trust me," Mary says," I just want to make you happy."
You look into her eyes, searching for any hint of untruthfulness in them but you find none. You nod. "You should move slightly to the left," You say," And spread your fingers out a little more."
"Thanks, birdie."
She does as you've said and shoots.
The ball goes in and Mary breathes out a sigh of relief, already leaning over the counter to talk to the poor minimum wage worker that's had to sit through all her attempts.
"Yeah," She says," The bird. The blue one. Up top. Yeah, that one."
He has to get a big stick with a hook on the end to get it off and Mary takes it from him triumphantly.
She presents it to you and you gently stroke your hand over the fur.
She's still holding it but you bypass your new favourite toy completely, moving to hug her as tightly as you can.
"Thank you, Mummy."
Mary tries not to let you finally saying the 'm' word affect her, forcing back the tears that want to fall as she hugs you back, raining kisses onto the top of your hair.
"It was my pleasure, birdie."

Hello can you please do more baby or toddler reader x batfamily if you canđi just love them
Oh sure can. I kind of love them too. I'll do baby reader, since we didn't have those in a while. Also, look at this adorable little penguin. Baby animals are cute.
Summary: First time that (Y/N) came to the manor.
Warnings: mentions of death during birth, but it's not (Y/N), a lot of fluff, angst(?), I don't know at this point.
Bruce was silently sitting at the dining table, looking at the phone, not sure how to feel at this moment. He had a one night stand 9 months ago and the woman he was with was carrying his child. Bruce asked her what she wanted to do, did she want to get rid of the baby or keep it?
Bruce was secretly hoping she would keep the baby, but he couldn't tell her what to do with her body. That would be wrong in his opinion. Thankfully, she choose to keep the baby. Thank God. Bruce was happy and he told his other sons about the incoming baby. None of them were surprised, but worried. A baby in their lifestyle?
They were all worried to say the least. Even Damian. Not about the fact that a biological child of Bruce was coming into the family, but worried about the fact that it's a baby. All of them were hoping for a girl, because who wouldn't want a little sister at their hands? Once they found out it was a boy, they were a tad disappointed, but didn't mind another boy.
The more the merrier was the joke.
The pregnancy was going smoothly... Until the time of labor came. He thought that it would go smoothly. He really did. However, it didn't. (Y/N)'s mom didn't make it, but (Y/N) did. That was the call he just got.
She passed away during birth. The nurse who called assured Bruce that the baby was okay. At the moment, Bruce was trying to collect himself before he broke the news to everyone. He looked up from the phone as his sons came in, all confused as to what has happened.
" What happened Bruce? " Dick asked as he sat down and Bruce rubbed his eyes.
" Anna, the one night stand gave birth today. She didn't make it, " Bruce announced and everyone froze.
Damian was left worried for the baby, Tim's mouth dropped and Jason was left speechless. Dick had to sit down.
" Are you serious? " Tim asked, eyes widening at the news. This was huge.
" Just got the call Tim. She passed away. Right now, I need to get some baby stuff. And that means furniture, clothes, diapers, damn formula too... " Bruce rubbed his eyes again, feeling overwhelmed by everything.
" We'll deal with that, " Damian declared and the other 3 nodded in agreement. " We'll just need your credit card. You need to make sure that the baby is taken care of. And we do need to think of a name. "
" I thought we agreed on (Y/N). And so did Anna, no? " Dick asked, rubbing his chin.
" Yes, we'll name the boy (Y/N). Also, don't go overboard. " Bruce warned and Dick chuckled.
" You shouldn't worry about money, since you are rich, " Dick mumbled as his face turned solemn.
" I know Dick. I trust you all. First and foremost, we need a list of what we need for the room. Create a list of furniture and then just make sure to get enough clothes for now. We'll think about that later. But formula is something that he needs, so make sure to get about a week's worth... Is that too much? " Bruce wondered out loud, sighing quietly.
" We'll get a week's worth, don't worry father. We'll go furniture shopping today, so that it'll be ready when (Y/N) is discharged from the hospital, " Damian said, looking Bruce in the eyes.
" (Y/N) will be okay here. " Tim put his right elbow on the table, then rested his chin in his hand. " We may be chaotic, but we'll take good care of him. He won't lack anything, " Tim said with a firm voice and everyone nodded.
" Oh hell yeah. We'll all step up for this baby. And we'll take care of him. We'll make a list of duties and try to do our best. " Jason crossed his arms as he leaned back into his chair.
" I agree Jason. "
They all looked at each other, clearly determined to make sure that (Y/N) is taken care of.
Bruce went to the hospital right after the conversation, nervous beyond belief to meet his son. He entered the hospital, where he asked the nurse for directions. The nurse gently led him where (Y/N) was and Bruce saw him through the glass, with other newborns. Bruce tried to not cry, tried to not tear up.
But he couldn't stop the tears that came up. He wiped them quickly and the nurse gently patted his shoulder.
" (Y/N) is healthy, mister Wayne. A good weight too. But sleeps most of the time, which is normal. The only thing you need to do right now is sign the paperwork for that adorable baby, " She said, gently smiling at (Y/N), then turned to Bruce.
" And I know that you are a single father and that a baby is different than teens, but you'll get the hang of it. And I know you must feel overwhelmed and not prepared, but no one is prepared for a baby. There's no manual to get ready, " She told him and Bruce chuckled.
" I know. But I've been reading books on how to take care of newborns. What to do and what not to do. But I feel like it's not enough, " Bruce explained and she nodded.
" Do not sell yourself short. You got this. And I think the little guy would love to live with you. Do you want to hold him? "
Bruce nodded. " But I need to sit down first. "
" Of course. " She gently led him to a room where he could sit down and then she left to go get (Y/N). Bruce has never felt so nervous and anxious in his life. He tried to calm down, but his nerves got the better of him. He took a deep breath to calm his nerves down.
He got ready as the nurse entered with (Y/N), who was swaddled and sleeping.
" Alright, are we ready dad? " The nurse asked and Bruce nodded. He knew he was ready.
The nurse gently put (Y/N) into Bruce's arms and Bruce smiled at his baby boy. (Y/N) opened his eyes and Bruce smiled even more.
" Hello (Y/N). It's dad, " Bruce said and (Y/N) seemed to scan him before letting out soft sounds.
The nurse adjusted his hold, warning him about the neck and head. Bruce listened intently, adjusting his hold accordingly.
" You have 4 brothers and you wrapped them around your little finger. They'll do anything for you, " Bruce said gently to his son, who seemingly smacked his little lips together. Bruce chuckled at that.
" I'll make sure you are never lack love. Never, " Bruce muttered, smiling at his baby boy. " Oh they'll love you. "
Bruce turned his head towards the nurse. " When can I take him home? "
The nurse thought for a moment. " Normally, we would discharge him with the mother, but since she passed and he's fine, you could take him today. "
So Bruce did just that. After he talked to all the appropriate people, signed a shit ton of documents in Bruce's words. Afterwards, he made his way to find a baby car seat. He quickly put it together in the parking lot. Being Batman is a perk of it's own. He put it together and went to the hospital to pick his son up and go home with him.
He could only hope that the boys have put together a crib. However, he didn't doubt that they bought it, they are all quick and efficient, but... He's worried. He can only hope that they didn't kill one another while putting together the cribs. He'll be happy if he he finds two of his sons unconscious. And without any broken bones.
Which Bruce knew was unlikely, but one can hope. He gently strapped (Y/N) in and drove home, making sure to be vigilant on the road and to make sure that both him and (Y/N) made it home safely. After a while, he parked the car in the yard and got out, taking (Y/N) with him, making sure he is swaddled and calm.
He opened the door quietly and he could hear voices upstairs, probably where they were putting together the furniture. He slowly walked upstairs, being quiet on purpose to see what was going on.
And was that a sight to see.
Damian and Tim were putting together a changing table and Dick and Jason have put some toys into the crib, making it comfortable for their brother.
Bruce cleared his throat and everyone turned their heads to look at him, before their eyes fell down on a little bundle of joy in (Y/N)'s arms. They all froze and melted a tiny bit.
" Aw, he's so cute, " Dick came closer, watching (Y/N) who was awake at the moment, looking around at the new faces and voices.
Jason peaked over Tim's shoulder. " My, my. He is cute. " Jason said quietly as he gently reached out to touch (Y/N)'s cheek.
" Before any of you touch him, " Bruce said, making Jason pause mid air, " I want you all to wash your hands. So go to the bathroom and wash your hands.

hello how are you it if my first time asking but what do you think it would be like if white beard had a daughter and she went on shanks crew like he havenât seen his daughter for years and then he see her on shanks crew
also I love you writing you my favvvv
Imagine being Whitebeard's daughter on Shanks's crew
A mildly naughty bit under the undercut. Also, I'm having to change how I indicate action, instead of using Asterix *, I'm going to change them to [ ].
Marco: Pops, Shanks's ship is on the horizon, signaling they wanna talk-yoi.
Whitebeard: [rolls his eyes,] Fine let him aboard.
As the Red Force is pulling itself parallel to the Moby Dick
Whitebeard: [spots you working on the rigging] (y/n)?!
You: dukes [knows you're going to be in trouble, so you try to duck into the galley to avoid him]
Whitebeard: Young Lady, I fucking saw you, don't try to hide from me! Come here.
You: [shuffles in front of him] Hi Pops
Izou: oi, oi, don't go getting familiar with him.
Whitebeard: [holds up his hand] No, it's okay, this one is my biological child.
Ace: You have a bio kid? Why didn't you tell us!?
Whitebeard: I was trying to keep her safe, [turns to you and gives you a pointed look,] which is why I left you on Sphinx, where it's safe.
You: It was boring, so I snuck aboard the supply ship, that you send us every month, and hopped out at the nearest port.
Whitebeard: That supply ship is captained by Doma!
Thatch: Shall I go draft a summons letter sent to him?
Whitebeard: yes, thank you. [Turns back to you,] You should have stayed on Sphinx. Yes, it's boring, but that's because it's peaceful. Do you have any idea how rare and valuable peace is? Why would you leave?
You: Because I wanted more! I wanted to see the world! I wanted to fight strong opponents! Because I'm your kid!
Marco: [mutters loud enough for Whitebeard to hear.] Personality is fifty percent genetic.
Whitebeard: [Ignores him.] I understand that... urge to see the world. But why him! [Jabs a finger in Shank's direction]
Shanks: What's wrong with me?
Benn: [pats his captain's head] We've been wondering that for years.
You: He makes me laugh.
Shanks: [puffs up his chest with pride and cheekily sticks his tongue out at Benn]
Whitebeard: Please tell me you aren't in love with this misfit.
You: Sorry, I can't help who I fell in love with, [shrugs.] He makes me happy, and he treats me well.
Yassop: [yells from the deck of the Red Force] That's an understatement! He spoils her rotten, and she gets first dibs on any treasure we get. And he buys her anything she wants.
Whitebeard: [rubs his chin thoughtfully] First dibs, huh?
You: I also send funds home, back to Sphinx.
Whitebeard: I suppose I'll allow it, then.
That evening
The Crews: [have somehow started a boat party]
Shanks and Whitebeard: [chatting around a table ladened with food]
You: Daddy, will you pass the rum?
Shanks and Whitebeard: [reach for it, accidentally touch hands, and lock eyes]
the crews: ʱÂȘʱÂȘʱÂȘ(ááąà„á«â)
Shanks: (âŒĐâŒ) !! *Books it for his ship*
Whitebeard: [hot on his heels] AKAGAMI!
Marco: wow
Benn: That was a mean thing to do, (y/n).
You: àŹ(âżË”âąÌ Ï âąÌË”) ? I didn't do anything, [lying].

Imagine a world where Bruce Wayne did not become Batman. Instead, he is just a Normal Dude. Or as normal as a billionaire deeply dedicated philanthropy in a city as insane as Gotham can be.
Because make no mistake: just because Bruce is not Batman does not mean Gotham is not Gotham.
There are a few new players thoughâon the Rogues side.
Timothy Drake is the teen business tycoon of Drake Industries. Absent of the inspiration of Batman and the socialization and warmth of Dick Grayson, he is ruthless and logical to a fault in pursuit of his goals and just as viciously chaotic as the disaster little brother Jason knows.
In other words, heâs Gothamâs youngest supervillian. The only good news is his chosen nemesis is Lex Luthor. Maybe. Timothy doesnât care much about collateral damage. Itâs not his goal to harm civilians, but he certainly doesnât include their safety as a priority in his convoluted schemes to mess with Luthor.
Talon is an undead murderer who slaughtered a huge swath the Gothamâs 1% five years ago and, despite being spotted many times since, has never been apprehended. He appears when he wants and disappears just as readily, and Gotham just has to accept thereâs a killer stalking their streets and thereâs nothing they can do about it. Sometimes Talon has been known to rescue people, especially, but itâs never clear how or why exactly Talon chooses who is victim verses aggressor. And the end is always brutal and bloody for those Talon deems aggressor.
Damian is still Bruceâs biological son and raised by Talia in the League of Assassins. But when he was left in Gotham and met his father, this Bruce was so baffled and thrown by a child assassin that Damian immediately takes as rejection and runs away. (He doesnât even stay long enough for Bruce to be sure it wasnât a hallucination or very strange dream).
Damian is almost immediately found and adopted by Talon, so now Gotham has TWO bird-themed killers liable to jump down on you from nowhere and for any reason.
Oh, and god help you if you so much as make Talonâs baby Owlet sad. If youâre lucky, it will be the last thing you do.
Barbara is an ordinary librarianâŠwho can be hired as a mercenary hacker for the right price. The public isnât afraid of her because they donât know she exists. More than one politician or public figure has been ruined because of the blackmail she unearthed on them. But what side exactly is the police commissionerâs daughter on? And how much of Gotham does she have under thumb?
(Is she a secret ally and accessory to Timothy Drakeâs many plots?)
Steph, thank god, is actually NOT a villain, super or otherwise. Sheâs the one vigilante attempting to help Gotham. Spoiler has connections among some of the caped community like Supergirl or Wonder Girl. But without Bat training or the police cooperation forged years ago by Batman, sheâs mostly just striving to survive while taking on Gothamâs many, many gang. Make no mistake, sheâs impressive. But desperate. Spoiler comes with guns and explosions. So. Many. Explosions. Gotham has never heard of the âno killâ rule. And likely never will.
(Cass also lives in Gotham. But no one will ever see her or even know sheâs there.)
JasonâŠ.well. Baby Jason never stole any Batmobile tires and never was adopted by a strange but kind billionaire. He was never killed at 15.
He died in the winter before he turned 13.
And then one day, Adult Canon Jason gets thrown into this dimension. And somehow Gothan is WORSE?! How is that even possible? Also his siblings are running around being super villains and killing people? Bruce! Control your children!!
But this Bruce does not have children (heâs still mostly convinced Damian was a prank or hallucination). He is horrified by the idea of children fighting crime. He has absolutely no idea how to handle exceptionally talented chaos machines with too much passion and no sense of self preservation. And heâs frankly a little disturbed by Jason himself and his guns and refusal to âwork within the systemâ and Jason nopes out of there so freaking fast.
Jason also, slowly, has to become okay with the realization that his siblings are not insane because they were made Robin. They became Robin because they were already insane. There was no way to create a normal human being out of any of them.
(Jason does not want to look too closely at what that says about him.)
In the end, Jason teams up with Steph. He connects her with Dick/Talon, who is more than happy to have a new Owlet to train and preen, and Damian only slightly stabs her. They manage to persuade/threaten Tim into caring enough to help get Jason back to his dimension with misuse of Drake Industry research equipment. Damian very much does stab Tim. Tim retaliates by locking Damian in an industrial freezer. Dick thinks theyâre bonding. Jason introduces them to Babs, but frankly he has no idea what heâs hoping to achieve from this. Probably nothing good because Dick, despite being an under-socialized undead assassin with some weird mannerisms and ways of speaking, still manages to pull a woman way out his league like Barbie. And Babs seems to have no problem with the âmurderâ part that description.
Jason never realized how much Bruceâs strict moral code and âthe Missionâ were key to the rest of them becoming remotely positive influences in society. Or how little Bruce has to do with his siblings getting into dangerous, violent situation. He doesnât like anything about it.
They work out how send Jason back, and he returns to his dimension with the feeling heâs just left Alternate Gotham to a gang of supervillains.
âŠat least theyâre together?
And Talon Dick wonât let any of his new Owlets die and will rain bloody vengeance on anyone who tries. So thatâs good. For them at least.
(Jason feels absurdly like he should be apologizing to this universeâs Bruce. Or. Someone. He doesnât. But he feels like he should.)
Back at in his dimension and at the Batcave, Jason pauses and just stares at Batman for a very, very long time. Finally, he takes a deep breath and solemnly nods just once before taking off into the Manor for Alfredâs cookies.
Bruce has no idea what the fuck just happened.

âUh, good morning?â you offered weakly, trying to give a casual shrug despite the mess around you. âMom, this might sound insane. But, I think I might have accidentally discovered superpowers.â
Selina stared at you, blinking slowly as she processed the scene before her. Her lips twitched as if she were trying to hold back a laugh or perhaps some form of disbelief.
âAccidentally discovered superpowers?â she echoed. âI think you've been around your boyfriend and his family too much. Babyââ
Before she could finish, your hand instinctively reached out. With a flick of your wrist, a web shot from your fingers and latched onto the door behind her. In a heartbeat, the door was yanked from its hinges, splintering as it flew across the room and crashed into the wall with a resounding thud.
Selinaâs eyes widened in shock as she turned to face the now doorless doorway. She blinked at the empty space where the door had once been.
âWell,â she said, âI guess thatâs one way to explain things.â

Saturday, 9:02 PM - Catwomanâs Apartment, Gotham City.
SELINA'S DEFT FINGERS SLID over the fabric of the dress, adjusting and smoothing it until it drapes perfectly over your figure. The elegant emerald gown shimmered softly under the dim apartment lights, the material flowing luxuriously against your skin.
"You didnât steal this, did you?" you murmur, adjusting the necklace that rests delicately around your neck. "Iâd rather not end up in jail tonight."
"The dress? No, itâs one of my old ones," Selina scoffed, turning away and handing you a pair of black heels. "But if anyone asks about the necklace, just say itâs a family heirloom. Which, technically, it is."
You shot her a pointed look. She rolled her eyes with a smirk.
"Oh, hush. I havenât stolen anything in... at least a month," she drawled.
"A month, wow! Thatâs a new record," you teased, slipping into the heels.
Selina laughed and shook her head. "Donât get too comfortable. Just because Iâm on a hiatus doesnât mean Iâve gone straight."
"Well, letâs hope your hiatus lasts at least through tonight," you winced.
She smirked, giving you a once-over. "Trust me, darling, tonight is all about you."
You were about to respond when Selina suddenly snapped her fingers.
âBefore I forget...â she said, reaching into one of her drawers. She pulled out a thigh strap and wrapped the leather around your leg, fastening it securely.Â
Then, she slid one of her blades into the strap. You rolled your eyes but accepted the gesture with a resigned nod. It was Gotham, after allâbeing prepared was always a need.
âDamianâs got me covered tonight,â you say, trying to reassure her. âYou donât have to worry so much.â
Selina paused, her hands still on the thigh strap, and gave you a skeptical look. âSweetheart, I worry about you all the time. Itâs not that I donât trust Damianâheâs solid. But Gotham? Thatâs a different story. Where those Bats go, troubleâs sure to follow.â
You chuckled, adjusting the strap to make sure it was secure. âWeâll manage, mom.â
Selina Kyle might not have been your biological mother, but she became your mother the moment you were placed in her arms years ago. In that instant, the blood that bound you was inconsequential compared to the unspoken promise she made to protect you.
To Selina, you were her child. Not because of any legal ties or shared genetics, but because she chose to be your mother every single day.
And to you, Selina was more than just an aunt. She was the lifeline who stepped in when everything else had crumbled around you.
Selina and Maggie, your biological mother, had both grown up in a fractured family. Their father was a vicious drunkard. Their mother, Maria, was a ghost in their livesâemotionally absent and detached.Â
When Maria died, the world turned colder. The sisters were torn apart: Maggie was adopted by a warm, loving family, while Selina was abandoned to the unforgiving grip of Gothamâs orphanages. Those grim streets, steeped in shadows and danger, carved her into Catwoman.
But darkness has a way of creeping back into the light, no matter how hard you try to keep it at bay. Maggie, who had managed to build a life of stability and warmth, became a target for the shadows of Catwomanâs past.Â
Black Mask.
Kidnapped, tortured, and left to die, Maggie was nothing but a ghost by the time the attack was done. Her husband was slain in the carnage, and the only remnant of their family was youâ barely a toddler, too young to grasp the gravity of your loss but old enough to feel its weight.
With no other family to turn to, she took you in, binding her fate to yours and vowing to protect you from a world that had already taken so much from both of you.
Her life wasnât easy. She was young, barely in her twenties, struggling to make ends meet in one of Gothamâs most unforgiving neighborhoods. The meager jobs she managed to scrape together were barely enough to cover the rent, let alone the needs of a growing child.
Selina's decision to take up the mantle of Catwoman was never about the thrill of the heist or the allure of jewels; it was about survivalâyours and hers. Gotham demanded a price, and she chose to pay it herself, risking her life each time she donned the suit to give you a chance at something better.
You grew up with a keen sense of the world, your intelligence uncovering bits and pieces of her double life. The mysterious disappearances, the luxurious items that mysteriously appearedâeach clue painted a picture that you slowly began to understand.
When the time came for the truth to be revealed, it wasnât easy
Selinaâs hand glided across her vanity, fingers brushing over the cool surface before settling on a sleek black clutch. With a flick of her wrist, she turned and handed it to you.
You accepted it with a gleam in your eye, stepping back as you held it close. A playful twirl sent the emerald fabric of your gown swirling around you, catching the light in a way that made it shimmer.Â
âWell? What do you think?â
Selinaâs stern look melted away like ice under a warming sun. Her gaze swept over your outfit, absorbing the delicate neckline, the tailored fit around your waist, and the gownâs fluid cascade to the floor.Â
In this small, quiet moment, the weight of the world seemed to lift. For just a heartbeat, she allowed herself to pretend that the two of you were simply a normal mother and daughter, sharing a simple, beautiful moment together.
âYouâve always had a way of making everything around you look better,â she purred. âYouâre going to knock the whole school off their feet. Damianâs going to need a crowbar to keep the other guys away.â
Selina reached out to adjust the straps on your dress, her touch precise and caring. Her fingers brushed a stray strand of hair from your face, the movement as gentle as a whisper.
âJust remember, darling,â she spoke slowly, âit never hurts to stay safe.â
Ruby-red manicured nails tapped your cheek as she straightened up, a knowing look in her eyes.
Pause. Your eyes widened as you caught the hint of her meaning. âYouâre not saying Iââ
âI was at that age,â she interrupted with a mock-serious tone. âIâm just saying you should be prepared. Especially with the way that boy looks at you like youâre the only person in the room. Youâve got him wrapped around your finger. Make sure he wraps something else too.â
A flush of embarrassment rose to your cheeks. You sputtered and fumbled with the clutch in your hand. âMom! What the hell?! I think thatâs enough advice for one night!â
BEEP!
Just as Selina was about to respond, a car horn blared from outside, slicing through the eveningâs quiet. Both of you turned towards the window, where a Porsche 911 emerged from the darkness. It looked painfully out of place against the backdrop of your neighborhoodâcracked sidewalks strewn with trash, graffiti-streaked walls, and the occasional flickering streetlamp battling the encroaching shadows.
âLooks like your chariot awaits,â Selina said, her hands sliding up your shoulders as she gently nudged you toward the door. âHave a great time, but keep your wits about you. Gothamâs never as calm as it seems.â
With one final hug, you stepped out of the apartment and descended the narrow, dimly lit staircase. As you reached the bottom, you emerged into the cool night air, where Damian stood by his car parked right under a street lamp.
He was impeccably dressed in a deep black suit that seemed to swallow the surrounding light, giving him an almost smoky allure. An emerald button-up shirt peeked from beneath the jacket, its rich hue a perfect match for the striking color of your dress.Â
Damianâs smoldering gaze warmed as he saw you approaching, a small, approving smile curling at the corners of his lips. He lifted two fingers in a beckoning motion, and though you rolled your eyes, you stepped forward.
âBeloved,â he greeted, extending a hand to you. âYou look stunning.â
âHi, handsome,â you grinned, taking his hand and stepping closer to press a gentle kiss against his lips. Damian responded with a soft hum, his arm slipping around your shoulders as he tilted his head slightly. The kiss deepened just enough to make the moment linger, leaving a warmth that held between you.Â
Just as you were about to lose yourself completely, Selinaâs voice sliced through the night air.Â
âYouâre going to be late!â
Damian pulled away from you so abruptly that it looked as if heâd been yanked back by an invisible force. His face flushed a patchy red, a blend of embarrassment and irritation. He shot a sidelong glance at Selina, his eyes quickly shifting back to you.
Damian huffs, releasing a sharp exhale through his teeth. âShall we go?â
The click of the car door echoed as Damian opened it for you, his lips twisting into a scowl. You settled into the plush passenger seat, the soft fabric of your gown rustling as Damian carefully lifted it to prevent any creases.Â
While you adjusted yourself in the seat, you glanced back and waved at Selina, her silhouette framed against the windows. A snort escaped you as you noticed the deadpan look Damian shot in her direction.
Damian was always somewhat awkward around Selina. As Robin, his view of Catwoman was clear-cutâshe was a criminal to be dealt with. And yet, he still held a deep respect for her as your mother.
Once he settled into the driverâs seat and started the engine, the car roared to life with a smooth, powerful purr. The sleek vehicle glided down the streets with impressive speed, Damian navigating through traffic with a confidence that bordered on recklessness.Â
As he shifted gears, the radio flicked on, filling the car with a soft, pulsing beat.
This may be the night that my dreams might let me know All the stars are closer All the stars are closer All the stars are closer This may be the night that my dreams might let me know
Tilting your head back into the seat, your hair bunching around your shoulders, your thoughts drifted to the first time Damian took you for a drive. Both of you had been sixteen then, and his aggressive maneuvering had left you gripping the seat, your heart racing as if you were in a high-speed chase. Now, though, the thrill was familiar, adrenaline thrumming steadily in your blood.
The ride was brief but exhilarating, and soon the car pulled into the schoolâs parking lot. Sleek cars and limousines lined the lot, each more extravagant than the last. Students and their dates, dressed in their finest formal wear, mingled and laughed, making their way toward the entrance.
Stepping out of the car, the crisp night air greeted you like a refreshing embrace, carrying the delicate scent of fresh flowers and the faint strains of classical music wafting from the entrance. The soft glow of string lights and lanterns illuminated the path ahead, casting a warm, golden hue over the scene. Damian drew you close, his arm slipping around your waist as you walked together.
The ballroom was stunningly elegant.Â
Crystal chandeliers hung from the high ceiling, their shimmering prisms scattering colorful reflections across the polished marble floor. Tables draped in white linens, adorned with fresh roses and flickering candles, lined the room. The dance floor gleamed under the ambient light, already alive with couples swaying gracefully to the gentle strains of Franz Liszt.Â
The whole scene practically screamed old money.
You were going to die.
Youâd never quite get used to events like these. Over the years, youâd been to your fair share of galas and charity balls, mostly because of your relationship with Damian and that brief, awkward phase when Selina was involved with Bruce. Â
Each time, you had a knack for stumbling through social minefields, unintentionally insulting high-profile guests or spilling wine on someoneâs multimillion-dollar gown And, without fail, the next dayâs press would seize the opportunity to spotlight you and your social faux pas.
Gotham Academy, with its glossy veneer and elite crowd, was just another arenaÂ
It was a breeding ground for rich fucks, each one more insufferable than the last. The halls echoed with the chatter of kids who had everything handed to them, their lives a far cry from yours. The only reason youâd managed to slip through those gilded gates was thanks to the Martha-Wayne scholarship. Without it, youâd still be stuck in the middle of nowhere with your mother, scraping by on whatever scraps you could find.
âYa amar, are you going to keep staring at the floor? Or may I have the honor of requesting a dance?â
Damianâs voice cut through your self-deprecating spiral as he snapped his fingers in front of your eyes.
Blinking up at him, you pursed your lips. âI donât know... this is a really interesting floor.â
Damian raised an eyebrow, feigning surprise. âOh, really? Pray tell, what makes it so interesting that youâd rather stand here instead of dancing with me?â
âI donât know. I could stare at it all night,â you hummed, crossing your arms. âPlus, weâve got to keep our thing going, you know? I can't give in that easily.â
âOur thing? What thing?â Damian blinked.
âThe thing where we act like we hate each other but still want each other carnally,â you said, throwing your head back as you laughed.
"Tt," Damian deadpanned, reaching out to grab you by the waist. He lifted you off the ground, your feet barely brushing the polished marble beneath. You wrapped an arm around his neck and giggled, holding on as he carried you toward the center of the ballroom.
âYou never miss an opportunity to mortify me, do you?â Damian scolded, gently setting you back down on the floor. Both of you assumed a waltz stance, your hands finding their places on each otherâs shoulders and waist.
âI think I just enjoy keeping you on your toes,â you replied with a grin, swaying gracefully with him as the music enveloped you.
Damian's lips curved into a wry smile, despite his grumbling. "You know how much I despise these games you play, Cat."
âOh? Cat?â you laughed, the rich, velvety fabric of your dress brushing against Damianâs sleek suit as you danced. âAre we going for the classic Batman and Catwoman trope here? Because once Selina retires, I could always take up the mantle of the next Catwoman.â
Damianâs smile dropped, replaced by a look of exasperation. âPlease do not. I fear what will become of you then."
âWhy not?â you asked, batting your lashes coyly. âDoes the idea of me as Catwoman not thrill you?â
Damian made a noncommittal sound, his ears tinged with red as he averted his gaze.
âDonât get shy on me,â you said with a grin, your voice dropping to a teasing purr. Your hand glided up his jaw, your touch lingering just enough to be felt.
A shadow of something intense flickered in the depths of his jade-green eyes. Damianâs grip on your waist tightened slightly, his gaze narrowing into a mock glare that barely concealed the warmth beneath.
âI guess I would not... be entirely opposed to that idea,â he muttered.
He led you into a slow dance, his movements fluid and graceful, reminiscent of those quiet, moonlit nights in his manorâs kitchen. You recalled late evenings when the room was bathed in the soft, silvery glow of moonlight streaming through the windows. On those nights, the world outside felt far away, leaving just the two of you swaying gently to the soft strains of music playing from his phoneâs speakers.
It was moments like these that peeled away his walls. In the soft glow of the ballroom lights, the tender, affectionate side of him emergedâlike a rare flower blooming in the quiet of twilight. Each layer revealed a deeper, more intimate part of him, offering you a special kind of attention that made every shared glance and touch feel intimate.
âThis crazy, almost maddening attraction I have for you makes me feel like I want to stab myself,â Damian murmured as he spun you around, the fabric of your dress flared out like a blooming flower at his feet.
âWow, you really have a way with words,â you said with a smile. âAdmit itâyou love every second of it, donât you?â
Damianâs lips curled into a smirk.
âPerhaps,â he conceded. He drew you back into his embrace as he guided you across the dance floor, your bodies moved in perfect harmony, like two pieces fitting together in a delicate puzzle.
The world around you seemed to blur into a gentle haze of soft music and swirling lights. Damianâs gaze, however, remained sharp and vigilant.
âI donât like how theyâre staring at you,â he murmured, his green eyes narrowing as they scanned the crowd. His voice carried the familiar edge of possessiveness. âPerhaps they need a reminder of whom you belong to.â
âDamian, noââ
Before you could protest, Damian leaned in, closing the distance between you with a smooth turn of his head. The kiss was tender yet heated, his teeth gently tugging at your bottom lip.
Anyone who glanced your way would see Damian Thomas Wayne with his lips pressed against yours, making it clear who he was with. It wasnât the first time heâd been so overtâthere was that incident when you both ended up in detention because he couldnât keep his hands off you by your locker.
You whined softly, trying to pull away, a thin strand of saliva connecting your lips in a delicate, glistening thread. âWeâre in publicââ
âShut up,â he murmured against your lips, his voice rough yet tender, before diving back in. The breath you had been holding escaped in a slow, shuddering sigh, mingling with his as he drew you closer, his hands firmly cupping your hips.
Damian seemed to swallow every sweet sound you made, chuckling softly as you mumbled curses against his lips, your grip on his tie tightening. The world around you blurred into insignificance, leaving just the two of you enveloped in a bubble of intense sensation. Your breaths came in ragged bursts, eyes fluttering open and then closing again, lost in the heat of the moment. When you finally pulled apart, both of you were breathless and flushed, the lingering electric buzz of the kiss still crackling in the air between you.
Damian and you locked eyes, his face blank until a shit-eating grin slowly spread across his face.
"I hate you so much," you scowled. âYouâre impossible, Damian Wayne.â
âPerhaps,â he murmured, his voice a low, teasing whisper. He leaned in, using your own words against you. âAdmit itâyou love every second of it, donât you?â
Before you could respond, he tilted your chin up, his lips brushing lightly against yours as he whispered, âLet them see. Theyâll just have to get used to the sight.â
The kiss was softer this time, more tender, as you swayed gently against him, savoring the moment of calm.
BOOM.
Without warning, the tranquility was shattered by a deafening explosion.Â
The sound of shattering glass and a violent burst of energy tore through the ballroom, turning the once elegant space into a scene of utter chaos. Crystal chandeliers swung erratically from the ceiling, their light flickering in disorienting patterns as debris rained down like confetti. The room erupted into a frenzy of screams and frantic movement as everyone scrambled for cover.
âHoly shit!â you gasped, your voice barely piercing through the screams and destruction.
CREAK.
A sudden, ominous groan echoed through the room, drawing your gaze upward. The chandelier, swaying precariously, seemed to shudder as its support gave way. Then, with a heart-stopping creak, the massive fixture began to fall.Â
Without a momentâs hesitation, Damianâs hand shot out, grabbing your arm with a firm grip.Â
âMove!â
You scrambled to keep up with his rapid pace, but your long gown snagged on the edge of a flipped table, sending you sprawling to the floor with a jarring thud. Your hand slipped from his grip, and Damian, realizing you were no longer beside him, turned back in a surge of panic.
With no time to guide you gently to safety, he yanked you up from the floor. He pulled you both behind the overturned table, using it as a makeshift barricade.
The chandelier crashed down with a thunderous roar, sending shards of glass, splintered wood, and shattered fragments spiraling through the air. As the debris rained down, you screamed and reached out desperately for Damian. Without hesitation, he rushed to your side, enveloping you in his arms. He pulled you close, pressing your face into his chest and shielding you from the rain of debris with his body.
Finally, the noise of destruction faded into a heavy silence. Damian lifted his head slightly, peering down at you.
âAre you okay?â he panted, voice edged with worry.
Shaken up, you heaved and shook your head vehemently, unable to find the words through your trembling fear.
âWhat the fuck was that?âÂ
"I don't have a single clue," Damian shrugged, eyes still scanning the room as he peeked over the edge of the table.
From the smoke emerged a middle-aged man, suspended in the air by his mechanical armsâsleek, metallic, and bristling with a variety of intimidating gadgets. The arms whirred and slashed through the air with deadly force, carving through the walls and sending more chunks of debris down.
âYou think you can just throw away everything Iâve built?â the man roared. âThis school, this place, itâs all been a mockery of my work, my life! Iâve sacrificed everything for this and youâve repaid me with nothing but scorn!â
Damian cursed under his breath. He settled back down, biting off the fingertip of his glove and pulling it off with a grunt. Pulling up his sleeve, he tapped an emergency button on his wrist, activating a silent alert to his family.
âWe have to go,â Damian whispered. He shrugged off his suit jacket and wrapped you in the fabric, pulling you close. He lifted you effortlessly, cradling you in his arms as he sprinted through the chaos.
He carried you swiftly through the buildingâs hallways, the shrill sound of distant alarms and the echo of your hurried footsteps reverberating off the walls. When you finally reached a safer location, he paused briefly, his sharp eyes scanning the area for any further threats.
âIâll be okay,â you said, your voice trembling as he gently set you down. You gripped his hands tightly, trying to steady your breath. âDoâdo you have your suit?â
âItâs in the car,â Damian grumbled, frustration evident in his voice as he ran his thumb over your knuckles.
âIâll stay here and start helping with evacuations,â you say, already moving to slip out of your heels, the shoes discarded onto the floor.
Damian opened his mouth to protest, but you cut him off, shaking your head firmly.
âNo,â you said firmly, your scowl sharpening. âNone of this again. I make my own decisions.â
Damianâs expression hardened. âYouâre not a trained fighter. Youâre not supposed to be in harmâs way.â
"It's just evacuations. Iâm not going to be fighting," you met his gaze as you stood up straight again. âAnd Iâm not going to stand by while others are in danger.â
âFine,â he said begrudgingly, âbut stay hidden and keep away from the villain.â
âI know,â you said softly, pressing a quick kiss to his lips. You met his gaze lovingly before turning to re-enter the chaos. The corridors were now a frenzy of frantic students and faculty, desperately trying to evacuate.
Damian shot you one last look before sprinting back toward the parking lot.
You slipped back into the ballroom, heart pounding in your chest. The smoke swirled around you, as decor and debris lay strewn across the floor. Amid the chaos, you spotted a girl trapped beneath a toppled table, her muffled cries barely reaching your ears. Clutching your dress in your hands to avoid tripping, you hurried over to her.
âHey, we need to move!â you called out, shoving aside the debris and wrestling with the heavy wood. With a determined push, you finally freed her from the wreckage. She wobbled as she stood, but you swiftly caught her, your grip steady and reassuring. âYouâre okay now. Letâs get out of here.â
âWhereâs everyone else?â she asked, her voice trembling.
âEveryoneâs heading for the exits. We need to move quickly,â you replied, guiding her toward the nearest emergency exit. The sounds of the villainâs rampage echoed through the room, punctuated by the distant wail of sirens.
Once the girl was able to get back on her feet and run on her own, you rushed to assist another group, directing them towards the exits and making sure they stayed calm.
SWISH.
There was a sudden, sharp slice, and you snapped your head back toward the ballroom. Damian had reappeared, now clad in his suit.
âRobin?!â
With a decisive, diagonal slash, his katana cleaved through one of the villainâs mechanical arms. The blade sliced through the metal with a sharp, resonant hiss, and the armâs severed end burst into a cascade of dazzling sparks. Pieces of twisted metal flew through the air like shrapnel, their jagged edges catching the erratic light from the shattered chandeliers.
His cape, a deep, blood-red shroud, billowed behind him like a dark wave, trailing in his wake as he moved. The clash of his katana against the villainâs mechanical arms echoed through the room, each strike a precise blur of red and black.Â
Amidst the fight, your eyes were drawn to a figure huddled in the far corner. The student, paralyzed with fear, was frozen in place, eyes wide and fixed on the destruction unfolding before them.
Without a second thought, you sprinted towards them, nimbly navigating through the scattered debris and overturned tables. As you reached the student, you crouched beside them and gently placed a reassuring hand on their shoulder.
âHey, itâs going to be okay. Alright? Weâre going to get through this, but you need to moveânow!âÂ
The studentâs terrified eyes flickered with a glimmer of hope as they slowly began to rise with your help. Their breath came in shallow, panicked gasps, each exhale mingling with the smoky haze that filled the air. You grunted, your muscles straining as you slipped your arms beneath their shoulders, lifting them to their feet.
"Move!" you urged, guiding the student toward the doors. Their feet stumbled over the debris, but you kept a firm grip on their arm, pulling them along through the chaos. As you hurriedly navigated the wreckage-strewn floor, you felt a strange tingling sensation creeping up your leg.
It started as a subtle prickle, almost like static electricity, but quickly grew into an unsettling sensation that made your skin crawl. You glanced down, trying to pinpoint the source, but the shifting shadows and debris obscured your view.Â
The legs of a spider, sleek and shadowy, crawled up the fabric of your emerald dress. Its tiny, pulsating body was nearly camouflaged against the rich material, and its eight eyes glinted with an eerie green glow, peering out from the shadows of the gown.Â
Oblivious to its presence, you continued leading the student toward the safer part of the ballroom, focused on ensuring their escape.
The spiderâs glow intensified, its eerie green light pulsating with an ominous rhythm as it crawled up your arm. Just as you pushed the student to safety, a sharp, burning sensation erupted where the spider sank its fangs deep into your skin. A piercing scream erupted from your lips. The searing pain surged through your body, radiating outwards from the bite like a fiery wave. In a frantic, instinctive reaction, you slapped at your bicep, your nails digging into the skin.Â
Panicked, Damianâs head snapped in your direction, eyes widening in alarm as he spotted you writhing in pain. In his moment of distraction, a metal arm swung violently towards him. The arm connected with a sickening thud against his side, the force of the impact sending him hurtling through the air.Â
Damian crashed into a wall with a bone-jarring slam and his body crumpled to the ground, the force of the impact visibly shaking him. He lay there, gasping for breath, spit and blood spilling from his chin.
Groaning, he raised his head, feeling the crack in his mask press against his face. Strands of dark hair fell over his single exposed eye, partially obscuring his vision. Squinting through the haze of pain, he cursed under his breath as he saw the villain advancing toward you.
The spider's venom surged through your veins, a wave of searing, unbearable pain radiating from the bite. You stumbled and collapsed to the floor, struggling to stay upright. Pain tore through you as you crawled toward a nearby pillar, your fingers clawing weakly at the surface
Through the haze of your deteriorating vision and the throbbing fog that clouded your mind, you could barely make out the figure of the villain advancing toward you. His mechanical arms whirred with a menacing hum, their sharp, glinting edges catching the dim light of the ruined ballroom.
The last thing you saw before darkness swallowed you was a blur of red.
With a snarl, Damian lunged, his katana slicing through the air with deadly intent. The blade crashed into the villain's mechanical arm, the impact resonating like a gunshot. Sparks exploded from the severed joint, showering the room in a cascade of crackling light as the villain staggered, his metal limbs convulsing with malfunction.
Sliding across the debris-strewn floor, Damian executed a perfect skid, coming to a stop on his knees. He positioned himself between you and the advancing threat, his katana held in a poised, defensive stance.
âIs this all youâve got?â Damian seethes. âA pathetic tantrum because your grandiose plans fell apart? Youâre nothing more than a washed-up has-been clinging to your failures.âÂ
âYou think you know what itâs like to sacrifice everything? To watch your life's work crumble? You have no idea what Iâve lost! My research was going to change the world!â
The villainâs mechanical arms flared up in response, their whirring growing louder as he prepared to strike again. Just as an arm was about to land, the piercing whir of a batarang sliced through the air. It struck the villainâs mechanical arm with precision, a bright explosion erupting from the impact. Damian grunted as he braced himself, holding firm against the shockwave, his muscles straining to keep steady. One hand instinctively dropped to your head, shielding you from the force.Â
The villain recoiled in surprise, momentarily disoriented by the sudden blast, his movements faltering as the shockwave threw him off balance.
Suddenly, the room was engulfed in darkness. The lights flickered and died, plunging the space into a pitch-black void. Shadows danced along the walls, punctuated by loud bangs and the crackling of debris.
Through the darkness, Batman emerged, his imposing figure cutting through the shadows. The sound of his cape rustling was almost like a herald of doom as he got into a fighting stance.
âRobin,â Batmanâs voice was a low, commanding growl, âtake the girl. Iâll handle it from here.â
Damian wasted no time, swiftly scooping you into his arms. The icy chill of your skin against his own drove a spear of terror through him. The panic clawing at the edges of his mind was a monster he couldnât afford to face, not now. He focused on keeping you as steady as possible, though your limp form felt like dead weight against him.
He tore out of the ballroom, his shoes skidding on the polished floor as he barreled into the hallway. His breath came in ragged gasps, each inhale burning in his lungs, but he didnât slow down. He couldnât. The entrance was just ahead.
Bursting through the doors, Damian propelled himself into the open air. The scene outside was pure pandemonium. Parents screamed for their children, kids clung to each other in terror, and the harsh wail of sirens pierced the night. Ambulance lights flickered like distant stars in the dark, red and blue blurs.
Now outside, Damian spotted a group of paramedics and, without a second thought, sprinted toward them. His hands shook slightly as he laid you down on the gurney, the coldness of your skin searing itself into his memory.
âSheâs unresponsive,â he rushed out in a pant. âPale skin, cold to the touch. Vital signs are unknown. She needs immediate attention.â
As he spoke, Selina rushed over, her fur coat billowing with each urgent step. The strands of her short, dark hair whipped wildly around her face, framing eyes wide with fear.
She bent down to your level, her breath visible in the cool night air as she placed a trembling hand on your forehead. Her fingers, warm against the alarming chill of your skin, recoiled slightly at the clammy coldness that greeted them. Selina winced, her gaze hardening as she took in the stark contrast between your deathly pallor.
âWhat happened?â she demanded, her voice taut with concern.
A paramedic, swiftly assessing your condition, replied, âWe think sheâs in shock. Weâll stabilize her and check for any other issues.â
Selinaâs eyes, reflecting a storm of emotions, darted between you and Damian.
âGo,â she urged Damian, her voice carrying a firm edge despite the underlying tremor of her fear. âIâve got this under control. Go take down that bastard and make him pay for what he did.â
Damian hesitated for a heartbeat, his gaze lingering on you. Every muscle in his body screamed to stay, but there was still a threat that left no room for hesitation. He nodded and without another word, turned and sprinted back toward the building. His cape flared out behind him, a streak against the night sky.
Selina's eyes followed Damian's retreating figure momentarily before refocusing on the paramedics. She watched them with sharp eyes, taking in every action and every word. Her hand never left your forehead, each pass of her thumb trying to provide comfort that her heart couldnât.
As the haze of unconsciousness began to lift, you slowly became aware of your surroundings. The dim, unfamiliar light filtered through your closed eyelids, and a dull, persistent ache from the bite lingered in your arm. You winced, raising a hand to your arm to find that the pain had subsided, leaving only a faint, dull throb. There was no scar, just a vague sense of discomfort.Â
Was that just a dream?
Before you could think about it anymore, your aunt's face was already in your peripheral.Â
Selina's voice caught in her throat as your eyes began to flutter open. Her grip on your hand tightened involuntarily, a mix of relief and worry playing across her features.
"Hey, there," she said softly. "You gave us quite a scare, sweetheart."
You stared at her in confusion, teeth chattering against the biting cold. Selinaâs eyes softened and she shed her coat, the plush fur rustling softly as it slipped from her shoulders. With gentle hands, she draped the coat around you, the dense, velvety texture brushing against your skin. The rich, warm scent of her perfume mingled with the coatâs embrace. As the coat enveloped you, its heat began to seep into your shivering body, gradually easing the icy grip of the cold.
âYouâre going to be okay,â she whispered, the words more for her own reassurance than yours.
The night was supposed to be a celebration, a rite of passage, a milestone to cherish. Instead, it had turned into yet another brutal reminder of what Gothamâs streets truly were: a merciless battleground that chewed up hope and spat it out with a sneer.
God, this city was shit.Â
Selina sighed, pushing those thoughts aside for the moment. The priority now was clear: get you home and into dry clothes.
"How are you feeling?" she asked softly, her fingers tracing a path along your cheek as if trying to reassure herself that you were truly okay.Â
âDizzy,â you mumbled. A soft groan escaped your lips as you tried to shake off the haze clinging to your senses. Your eyes fluttered shut for a moment, only to snap open again with a jolt as a sudden realization struck you.
âDamianâwhereââ you gasped, your voice barely more than a hoarse whisper. In a frantic attempt to sit up, you tried to push yourself upright, but the paramedics and Selina were quick to intervene. Their hands gently, yet firmly, guided you back down onto the gurney.
âWhoa, easy there,â Selina murmured soothingly. âDonât push yourself. The paramedics said youâre in shock. You need to stay still for now.âÂ
You could feel the gentle pressure of her hands, steady and reassuring, as they anchored you in place. Her eyes, bright green, locked onto yours, conveying more than words ever could. She took a breath, her gaze flickering to the paramedics who were working swiftly around you.
âAnd Damian is... with his father,â she said, her voice trailing off as she gave you a look, the unspoken meaning in it clear.
Selinaâs gaze shifted back to the paramedics with her usual air of confidence. She squared her shoulders, her tone now authoritative.
âIs there a chance I could take her home?â Selina asked, brushing her fingers through your hair with a gentle but firm touch. âItâs getting late, and Iâd really rather have her safe in her room.â
The paramedic, a no-nonsense woman named Helen, gave Selina a critical once-over before shifting her gaze to you. Her eyes, sharp and assessing, took in your pale face and the faint tremors still running through your body.
âWell, sheâs stable enough for transport, and weâve done the basic stabilizing procedures,â Helen said, her tone pragmatic. âBut sheâs still in shock, and it could be risky to move her too quickly. Are you sure you can handle her?â
âSheâs my kid. Iâve dealt with worse, believe me,â she replied with a wry grin.
Helenâs gaze softened slightly, though her voice remained stern. âAlright, but sheâll need monitoring for the next 24-48 hours. Light meals, plenty of rest. And no strenuous activity. She should see a doctor as soon as possible.â
Selinaâs fingers idly traced patterns on the back of your hand as she listened intently to Helenâs instructions.Â
âIâll make sure all of thatâs taken care of. Thank you,â Selina said, her voice carrying a rare note of sincerity. Helen nodded, seemingly satisfied with Selinaâs response. She handed Selina a card with basic instructions and a phone number to call if any complications arose.
Despite your reluctance to leave while Damian was still knee-deep in the battle, your hazy mind and Selina's insistence eventually led to you being pushed into the back of your aunt's sleek convertible.
The drive was a blur of city lights and concerned glances from Selina. You leaned back, your head resting against the cool, smooth leather of the seat. The gentle hum of the engine beneath you was a steady, rhythmic comfort, a small solace amidst the turmoil.Â
"Don't worry," Selina murmured, her eyes flicking to the rearview mirror to check on you. "Damian can handle himself. And the Bat will make sure he's safe. You rest. I'll tell you if anything happens to him."
Her words were a quiet promise amidst the rush of the city outside. You nodded weakly, feeling the weight of exhaustion pressing heavily on your eyelids. As the city sped by, its neon glow and shifting shadows blending into a dreamlike haze, you closed your eyes. The fatigue finally overtook you, and you drifted into a deep, dreamless sleep.

Sunday , 9:02 AM - Your room, Catwomanâs Apartment.
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.
There was a deep, throbbing ache in your arm, an insistent rhythm that seemed to pulse with each heartbeat, dragging you reluctantly from the depths of sleep. Your eyelids fluttered open to the soft, golden light spilling through the curtains, bathing your bedroom in a warm, comforting glow.
Through the thin walls, the distant murmur of the waking metropolis began to seep inâhonking horns, the rhythmic rumble of early morning traffic, and the intermittent chatter of pedestrians starting their day. Occasionally, a siren's wail pierced through the background noise, a sharp reminder of the city's ceaseless pulse.
Faintly, through the walls, the muffled sound of the living room TV drifted to you.
âGood morning, Gothamites! Looking for another beautiful day here in the city. Clouds to start off with, but a pleasant afternoon ahead. Temperatureâs in the high 40sââ
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.
With a groan of frustration, you reached out to silence the blaring alarm clock. As you swung your arm toward it, the clock was crushed under the force. It slammed into the table, which splintered and buckled under the impact. Wood cracked and shattered, sending fragments skittering across the floor. The sudden and violent destruction jolted you fully awake. You stared, wide-eyed and disbelieving, at the mess, your arm still extended in mid-air as if it was frozen.
âWhat theâ?â you muttered, your voice trailing off as you inspected your hand. It looked like your hand, perfectly normal and familiar. Just a normal hand.
Carefully, you climbed out of bed, wincing as you surveyed the mess of splintered wood and scattered debris strewn across the floor.Â
You paused. A sudden, sharp tingle pulsed through your arm, like an electric jolt that raced beneath your skin. It was both invigorating and disorienting, sending a rush of awareness through your senses. Instinctively, you turned your head, your reflexes sharp as your hand darted out to catch a fly that had buzzed too close.
To your shock, your fingers closed around the tiny insect with a reflex you didnât know you possessed. You stared at the fly, trapped gently between your fingers. Carefully, you opened your hand and let the fly go.Â
It darted away, disappearing into the room.Â
âOkay... That was new,â you muttered, shaking your head as if trying to clear away the confusion.
The tingling in your arm surged again, sharper and more insistent this time. You winced, the sensation both alien and unsettling, your mind struggling to grasp what was happening. Instinctively, you extended your hand, your gaze fixed on it in growing confusion.
Then, without warning, your fingers curled involuntarily, and something shot out from your wrist. A thin, silvery thread erupted into the air, glistening with a strange, iridescent sheen.Â
THWIP.
The web snaked through the room, swift and fluid, before anchoring itself with a solid thunk against the wall. The sight of itâa web, unmistakably organic, stretching taut and firmâleft you gaping in shock.
âWhat the actual fuck,â you freaked out. You took a hesitant step forward and tugged on it, half-expecting it to dissolve under your touch. But the webbing held firm.
You tried to pull it away, but it stayed stubbornly in place. Grunting, you pressed a foot against the wall for leverage and yanked harder. The webbing resisted with surprising strength, and a series of warning cracks echoed before a chunk of concrete broke away, crumbling under the strain.
The sudden release caught you off guard, sending you stumbling backward. You lost your balance and fell hard onto the floor, the impact knocking the breath out of you. For a moment, you just lay there, sprawled across the hardwood, your chest heaving as you tried to make sense of what just happened.
âWhat the fuck did I just get myself into?â you muttered to yourself, a disbelieving laugh bubbling up in your throat.
When you finally moved to stand, curiosity got the better of you. Experimenting, you aimed your hand at different parts of the room, determined to understand this strange new ability.Â
This time, when you extended your hand, the web shot out with precision, latching onto a nearby lamp. You gave it a pull, and the lamp skidded across the floor toward you.
There was another tingle, and you perked up. The sensation was almost electric, a ripple of anticipation that seemed to focus on your bedroom door. As you turned toward it, the door swung open and Selina stepped in, dressed in her pajamas.
"What's with the noise...?â she trailed off and froze in the doorway, her eyes widening as they took in the chaos of the room. Broken wood and scattered debris covered the floor, interspersed with strands of glistening webbing clinging to the walls and lamp.
âOh,â Selina murmured in surprise. She stepped cautiously over a particularly large piece of broken wood, her eyes darting around the room. Her gaze lingered on the webs, her brow furrowing as she raised an eyebrow at you.Â
âUh, good morning?â you offered weakly, trying to give a casual shrug despite the mess around you. âMom, this might sound insane.
You stood there, face heating up as you tried to pull your hand back. âY-Yeah, I think I need to work on my control.â
Selina shook her head, a frown on her lips. âOkay. First... Letâs get this mess cleaned up before the landlord starts asking questions. And maybeâjust maybeâtry not to redecorate the whole apartment with your... spider silk.â
àŒ»â°ââââ
A warm mug of coffee was placed in your hands as Selina settled beside you. You took a sip, but your knee continued to bounce in an anxious rhythm. She had called the school earlier to inform them that you would be taking it easy for the week, citing sickness as the reason.
You cast a glance at the puncture marks on your wrists with a mix of disgust and unease.
Oh, you felt sick alright.
"Alright," Selina said, taking a sip from her own coffee mug and setting it down with a clink. "We need to figure out whatâs going on and how to handle it. The sooner we get a grasp on this, the better."
You nodded absentmindedly, flexing your fingers around your mug.
Selina sat with a laptop positioned between the two of you, its screen a chaotic mosaic of open newspaper articles and news websites. Humming softly to herself, she clicked through the pages, her eyes darting across headlines and images. The rhythmic clatter of her clicks was punctuated by occasional pauses as she focused on key details.
âAm I a meta?â you blurted out, staring at your reflection in the dark liquid of your coffee.
"Well," Selina began, her tone measured, "based on what we've seen so far, you're likely displaying meta-human traits. Though," she added with a wry smile, "I'm pretty sure Iâm human despite the whole cat shtick. Same goes for your mother. Your father...well, thatâs a different story."
You raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued. "What do you mean by that?"
"Secretive guy. Kind of insane," Selina murmured to herself. "He did genetics researchâ"
She paused.
"Wait a minute," she said, her voice trailing off as she seemed to piece together something significant. "Your father was involved in genetics research..."
Selina licked her lips before grumbling and typing into the laptop. The screen flickered, and she pulled up a dense academic paper with your father's name prominently displayed. The title read: "Genetic Enhancement through Arachnid DNA Integration: Potential and Pitfalls."
She stared at the screen for a moment, a mix of disbelief and concern crossing her face. "Total nutjob," she muttered, shaking her head.
You squinted at the screen, trying to make sense of the technical jargon. "So... whatâs it say?"
Selinaâs fingers danced over the keyboard, scrolling through the dense paragraphs. "It describes experiments involving spider DNA to enhance human traitsâstrength, agility, and reflexes. Medical use too."
RING!
The sharp ring of your phone shattered the silence, jolting you both. Startled, you fumbled with the mug in your hand, which slipped from your grip and tumbled toward the floor. Your reflexes kicked in, and your foot shot out, catching the mug mid-fall with a swift kick, sending it flying back up into your hand. You blinked.
Selinaâs eyebrows shot up in surprise, her gaze flicking from the mug in your foot to you. She grabbed a notepad from the desk, her pen already poised, and began scribbling furiously.
âFast reflexes,â she muttered.
You scrambled to set the mug back on the table, your hands slick with sweat as you snatched your phone off the couch.
"Hello?" you answered, nervously wiping your damp hands on the fabric of your jeans. "W-Whoâs this?"
"Beloved?" Damianâs voice crackled through your phone, sharp with an edge of worry. Arabic curses slipped through his words. âIâm sorry for calling so late. I didnât mean to. I was knocked out after the confrontation.â
Your heart skipped a beat. âYou got knocked out? What happened?â
"Just a minor inconvenience for someone of my skillset," he said dismissively. "Iâm fine now. But what of you? Father mentioned that Selina told him about your sudden absences from school.â
You hesitated, glancing at Selina, who shook her head vehemently. She pressed a finger to her lips, urging you to stay silent about the spider situation.
"Fine!" you squeaked. "Totally fine. Just... family matters."
Damianâs voice was laced with skepticism. "Family matters? Are you sure youâre alright?"
"Yep," you replied, trying to keep your voice steady despite the strain. "Absolutely. Just... you know, the explosion rattled me a bit. The paramedics said I needed some rest for a few days.â
"I can head over to care for youâ"
Selina rolled her eyes and extended her hand.
âGive me the phone,â she said, her tone brooking no argument. You hesitated for a moment, but the stern look on her face made it clear you had no choice. Reluctantly, you handed it over.
"Damian," she greeted him with a sickly sweet tone, "this is Selina. Everything is under control here. Thereâs no need for you to come breaking into my apartment."
There was a grunt before Damian responded, "Miss Kyle, I insist. Itâs no trouble. I should be there to help. As any partner would."
Selinaâs eyes flashed with irritation as she leaned against the couch, arms crossed. "I appreciate your concern, kid. But itâs really not necessary. Sheâs fine."
"Fine?" Damianâs voice took on a mocking tone. "After a confrontation like that? I highly doubt it. Recovery after such an incident can be complicated.â
Selina scowled. Her voice cut through the phone line with a sharp edge. "Damian, do you seriously doubt my abilities as a guardian?"
There was a pause.
"With all due respectâ"
"I've got this!" Selina hissed. "She's safe, she's resting, and you're not needed here right now. Understood?"
There was another pause before Damian reluctantly agreed. "Understood. But if anything happensâ"
"You'll be the first to know," Selina assured him "Now, go take care of yourself. I have got this handled."
"Fine," Damian said, still sounding begrudging. "Take care."
Selina handed the phone back to you, her expression exasperated. âHeâs persistent, Iâll give him that.â
âYou couldnât even imagine,â you snorted as you pressed the phone back to your ear. âHi, baby.â
Damianâs voice crackled through the speakers, the faint static only adding to the gruffness of his tone.Â
"Tt. Hello," he grumbled, his tone falling flat. You couldnât help but snicker, the sound escaping despite your best efforts to stifle it.Â
âDonât be mad,â you whisper into the phone. âIâll only be gone for a week. Youâll survive. Mom's rightâIâm in good hands. You need to focus on recovering too.â
âAnything at all. Father and Alfred have confined me to my bed, but the window to my bedroom remains open. The sheer ignorance of their restraint measures astounds meâthey failed to account for my skills in evading such confinement.â
"Please, donât try to escape through your window on my behalf. I really donât need Bruce lecturing us again,â you groaned, pressing a hand to your forehead.Â
âVery well,â Damian said with a hint of a pout, âbut do remember, I am at your disposal if you should require anything.â
âUh huh,â you hummed. âIâll see you soon. Take care of yourself, Dami.â
âAnd you, my beloved,â he said, his voice softening. âUntil then.â
There was a beep, and the call ended. You sighed, letting your hand drop.
Selina took a sip of her coffee, her lips curling into a wry grin. âHeâs just like his fatherâequally obsessive and protective. Must run in the genes. That or we just have a knack for ensnaring emotionally constipated men.â
You laughed, a light, nervous sound that filled the room. As you tried to drop your phone back on the couch, you were met with unexpected resistance. The phone stubbornly adhered to your hand, as if it had decided to become a permanent accessory.
âUhâŠâÂ
You squinted at the phone, wriggling your fingers and trying to shake it off. No matter what you did, the phone remained firmly in place, glued to your palm.
"Sticky hands?" Selina suggested, glancing at the notepad in her hand now filled with scribbled notes and observations. She made a note with a touch of amusement, her pen moving quickly across the page.
Grumbling under your breath, you made a few more attempts to pry the phone off your hand. âLooks like it. Just another thing to add to the list of weird,â you huffed.
With furrowed brows, you used your other hand to grip the phone, attempting to twist it away. In your distracted state, you failed to account for your newfound strength. The device crumbled under your grip, shards of plastic and glass exploding across the couch.
You stared at the wreckage in disbelief, your heart sinking. Not missing a beat, Selina quickly scribbled down âEnhanced strengthâ on her notepad.
You grumbled as the remnants of your phone fell to the floor, a mix of frustration and embarrassment washing over you.
"Can't weâcan't we call Batman for this?" you asked, your hand nervously tangling in your hair. "Why'd you stop me from telling Damian anyway?"
Selinaâs expression turned severe. Her hands gripped your shoulders firmly, guiding you to face her.
"Listen to me. Batman, Damian, or anyone else cannot know about this right now."
"WhatâMomâ"
"Not a word," she cut in sharply. "This is meta-level stuff we're dealing with. The Bats donât handle metas well. We need to keep this under wraps until we fully understand it. The last thing I need is Bruce doing something to hurt my daughter."
Your face fell as her words sank in.
Selinaâs grip on your shoulders relaxed slightly, and her gaze softened. Her voice took on a gentler, more empathetic tone. "Power frightens people, especially when itâs something they donât understand. When they encounter something extraordinary, their confusion often morphs into fear. And fear... well, fear can make people see threats where there are none."
She took a deep breath, her expression grim. "Batman, in particular, has contingency plans for every potential threat, even for his closest allies. WeâI can't risk him viewing you as one." Her fingers tightened on your shoulders, a silent plea for understanding.
"Alright," you said quietly, trying to steady your voice. Lying to Bruce was one thing. But Damian... Damian was different. The thought of deceiving him felt like a weight pressing heavily on your chest.
Selina seemed to sense your hesitation. Her gaze softened, and she placed a hand gently on your shoulder. âI know itâs not easy,â she said, her tone soothing. âDamian isââ
âDifferent,â you finished for her, the word catching in your throat. âHeâs always been there for me, and now... Iâm just lying to him.â
Selina nodded. âI understand. But you know, that boy looks up to his father. Thereâs no telling he wonât spill something. Iâm sorry, sweetheart.â
"I get it,â your lips pursed. âBut... what do we do now?"
Selinaâs expression shifted from intense to thoughtful as she took a step back, her grip loosening. She glanced at the scattered remnants of your phone, then at the notepad filled with her hastily scribbled notes.
"Well," she sighed, "we need to find another space. I think you've done enough damage in our apartment."

Hospital Food | COD x Reader
MDNI
Summary: Your ex-husband (the biological father of your daughter) shows up when said daughter is admitted to hospital. Your current partner (and your daughter) put him in his place.
aka: stupid man gets verbally wrecked by a 17-year-old girl and a SAS soldier. Inspired by the time my stepdad and i roasted my bio dad.
For @the-californicationist 's Nameless Challenge! This means you have to guess which of the delicious war criminals I'm writing about below. (This has inspired a series, so you'll find out who I was thinking of when the second one comes out. ;) )
WC: ~700 words (oops, forgive me cali)
Pairing: f!reader x tf141 member (but who? đ)
Your ex-husband stood at the foot of his biological daughterâs hospital bed, watching her tap salt out of the little sachet onto a piece of buttered bread. His face was full of condescension, and you knew yours was full of barely contained disgust as you stared at him. God damn the child support agreement that required you to tell him when she was admitted to a hospital. At least you had otherwise full custody of her, youâre sure your ex wouldâve been murdered by now if youâd been forced to see him semi-regularly â either by you or your wonderful (deadly, military-trained) partner who hated the man in front of you almost as much as you did.
God, you wish he was here right now. Unfortunately, he was wonderful enough to have gone down to the cafeteria in search of lunch for the both of you â and something sweet to sneak back in for your little girl. He spoiled her rotten, and it made you love him more every time he did.Â
âThatâs a lot of salt,â your ex rumbled. If looks could kill, the stare your 17-year-old daughter levelled him with wouldâve evaporated him where he stood.
âYes. It is,â she spoke.Â
Tap tap tap, she resumed shaking the sachet.
âThey put salt in bread when they make it. White bread is about 3% salt,â he said. As if there was some important point your daughter was missing.
âI know. Iâve made bread before.â
Tap tap tap.
It was taking every fibre of your being not to laugh with sheer joy and vindication as your daughter, the blood of your ex-husband, so casually eviscerated him in the middle of this tiny white room.
âWhich is to say, you donât need to be adding salt to it.â You didnât think the man could sound any whinier. You were about to step in, but your daughter let out a deep sigh beyond her years (definitely picked up from the soldier who shared your home) and threw the empty salt packet onto the bed tray.
âTell me, why shouldnât I eat that much salt?â Her arms crossed in front of her, your ex-husband looked to you for help. He would get none.
âBecause⊠it makes your body retain fluid and raises blood pressureââ
âCorrect. I am in this hospital because I have low blood pressure caused by a low volume of fluid in my blood. They give me the salt packet on purpose. I am prescribed literal salt tablets,â she shook the bottle in the manâs face, âbecause I need to raise my blood pressure up to normal levels.â
Silence. Blinking.
âSo I am going to eat this bread because it is what the doctor ordered.â Her head snapped to you, with a chaotic glint in her eye only teenage girls could possess. The next words out of her mouth would stay with you until your dying breath;
âHey, Mum. Whenâs Dad coming back?â
You could not fight the grin that spread across your face, the elation jumping in your stomach. A quick glance at your ex-husbandâs sour face made it clear that your daughterâs point had struck true â You are not welcome here. I do not need you. I have a real father where you failed.
You opened your mouth to reply, âHeâsââ
âRight here, love!â The warm, gravelly voice of your partner filled the room, your daughterâs eyes lighting up with his presence. He stopped to press a tender kiss against your cheek, passing you a toasted sandwich, before he made his way to stand over the shoulder of your precious daughter.
âAnd I got you something special,â he whispered playfully, âDonât tell the nurse.â He pulled a poppy seed muffin out of the bag he was holding and placed it on the bed tray in front of her.Â
âSorry mate, who are you?â Your partner turned and cocked his head at your ex.Â
Your man knew exactly who the snivelling creature across from him was. Your boyfriend was just deciding to be a little shit, and it was one of the sexiest things youâd ever seen him do.Â
âDad, this is Marcus. You know, the man who got Mum pregnant with me?â Your daughterâs voice was poorly disguised venom.Â
âOh, right! Of course. I suppose I should thank you for your part in creating my wonderful daughter.â He stretched a hand out to your ex-husband who, for once in his life, made the smart choice to shake it and give some poor excuse for why he was needed elsewhere.
As soon as he was out the door, you had your arms around your lover, pressing endless kisses to his cheek as your daughter laughed.Â
âDid you hear what I said, Dad?âÂ
Your partner leaned down to hug the girl â his girl â tightly. He grinned.
âEvery fucking word.â

I was never really certain about my transition in the way that most gatekeeping hormone prescribers and curious members of the public demand that a trans person be. I didnât âalways knowâ that I was not cisgender. I havenât âalways knownâ anything about myself. Very few truths about me have always remained true, my existence is too interpersonal, contextual, and ever-evolving for all of that. (So is most everyone elseâs, I think). I donât think that the fact Iâd eventually choose to exercise my body autonomy at age 30 by taking hormones is a decision I could have foreseen when I was a child. All that I knew about being transgender when I was a kid was a fact that most children intuitively know: gender assignment was a violation of my freedom, of everyoneâs freedom in fact, and it was wrong. As an infant and then a child and teenager, people kept imposing labels on me; they kept forcing me and my body into prescribed gendered boxes, and while the specific labels and boxes never really felt like the right ones, the most disturbing part about it all was the forcing. No coerced identity would have ever felt right. Children can tell when secrets are being kept from them, and when adults are restricting their choices. They notice that they and the other children are being lined up boy-girl, boy-girl, without ever being told what a girl or a boy even is. They can see their parents frowning when they reach for the doll with the shimmery hair, or climb atop the neighbor kid on the playground. Kids know that they are forbidden from sitting with their legs spread wide or flicking their wrist, and their gender illegibility is shamed in them, long before they get any answers about what gender means or where it comes from or why itâs so important that they make themselves easy to understand.
Like the cloned children in Never Let Me Go who grow up being conditioned for a life of forced organ donation, children in a cissexist society grow up conditioned to fall within certain gendered boundary lines, and by the time they learn that the reason for this is almost completely arbitrary, they canât imagine any alternative. Not until some of them hear about gender transition and find the prospect very compelling, for some reason. You can say that reason is because some of us are inherently trans, but thereâs absolutely nothing in the way of brain science, genetics research, or even sociological data to back that up. Besides, the search for a biological âreasonâ that people are transgender or queer runs counter to the goal of queer liberation in the long run. Science only needs to explain the existence of transgender people (or queer people more broadly) if our existence is in some way aberrant or a problem. If queerness is accepted as a form of human diversity that simply exists, then there is no need to excuse it by claiming that it is never a choice. It can be a choice, if a person wants to make it, and hopefully it satisfies them, but maybe it wonât. Freedom to choose means freedom to forever be dissatisfied, to search endlessly for more, and yes, to capable of making a mistake. I would say that viewing myself as transgender was a choice. I decided to break away from the straight, female categories to which I had been assigned, and doing so allowed me to view the legal and societal power structures that had restricted me more clearly. It helped me better understand myself. But that does not mean the actual act of breaking away was always the truest reflection of who I am. The version of me that transitioned was a person on the run â and how a person behaves, thinks, and self-conceives when they are fleeing is not a great reflection of whom they might be if they were safe. If we all lived in a world free from mandatory gender assignment, and where our bodies were not mined for meaning about the kinds of sex we liked, the clothing we should wear, the personality qualities we have, the roles we should play in society, and the connections we are allowed to form with others, who knows who each of us might be. But none of us get to live in that world, or ever gets completely free from the frameworks of heterosexuality and the gender binary. These frameworks shape every legal institution we encounter, every school we attend, every item of clothing we put on, every substance we take into our bodies, every piece of paperwork that ever gets printed about us, and every look another person ever gives us. And so we make due with rewriting and recombining those frameworks as best we can. It should come as no surprise that those us who break away from the binary have to experiment and revise how we understand ourselves quite a bit â sometimes getting things âwrong,â sometimes searching forever for the semblance of something âright.â Sometimes reveling in the âwrongnessâ of all the available options is kind of the point.
I wrote about my detransition, retransition, and the eternal dissatisfaction that is probably the corest truth of my identity. It's free to read or have narrated to you on my Substack.
