What's the origin of your blog title: I used to have a bad habit of deleting my tumblr blog every few years and could also never settle on a name when I made a new account; 'solidarity' (plus a couple letters lol) is the best name I've landed on since then that doesn't make me feel unbearably antsy and like I want to change it (it's solid! It's right there in the name! 😂); it implies an ongoing commitment to myself and others and I really like that :) (vuesfluides did you notice we basically have opposite reasons for our blog names?? Yours about change and mine kind of about staying the same?? Because I did and omg I love it 😄)

Weirdest habit/trait: Just one?? 😬😂😫🫠 uhhhhh well. I pop all the time. Like if the letter P was a word all by itself? The objective is generally to make it sound as loud as possible. If you met me in real life, within a week of knowing me you would probably start doing it back to me like we are having some kind of conversation via Weird Noises. Everyone I know eventually does it back and it Delights Me 😂

If you could change any detail about your life right now, what would it be: I desparately wish I had like...a group of wise elders I could go to for my problems. Not a therapist. I think also just more irl community in general would be awesome.

If you could travel in time, who would you like to meet: Oh, I would go WAY back in time to some ancient civilization like Mesopotamia or something and just take it in, whoever I met. Love Sea - Episode 1

Like I said before I'm feeling chatty today so I'm just gonna write while I watch and then decide if I'm gonna post. I'll probably post. If you're reading this I obviously did. Anyway I've had dinner and now I have my coffee. How are we feeling about another Mame show? I haven't read anything about this one. I went into Wedding Plan sceptic, to say the least, and it was a wonderful surprise. Although Love in the air part 2 was not a pleasant experience, I will do my best to have an open mind. OK. Let's do this.

-The sea is always a plus. I miss it so much. -LOL the slow-mo. We get it, we're suppose to be drooling. -This is an important pen. ok maybe not. is it just for the title shot? -This place is gorgeous. Heaven indeed. -No one will get this, but I just rewatched Barakamon and this is exactly what happens when Handa gets to the island as well. Heaven for some. Hell for others. -Are they gonna write 'southern dialect' on top of the subs every time he speaks??? -See I don't know thai, so how different is the southern dialect really? If anyone knows please tell me. I'm really curious now. -I don't think it's because he has a pretty face though. I'm sure he suffered some trauma and that's why he's an asshole. -Oh her. I missed her. Is she gonna be a couple too? Does this have a gl side couple? -oh hello Ja. you're here too? I'm pretty sure I watched the trailer for this but apparently I don't remember anything. -This hostility feels so forced. That's a nice background for the credits. I wonder if it will change with the episodes. Like Gaya Sa Pelikula. Probably, right?

Well that was...okay. Too early to say much but I'm enjoying Mut. And Yiwa is back on my screen! And I'm really happy to have a show set on the beach. I shall continue watching this for now.

I won't do this every time though. Today is an aberration. It was a weird day but I have too much energy.

I should check on the elections, I'm sure that will bring my mood right back down. Oh but tomorrow is a holiday so I can do nothing all day. I'm happy again. Ok. bye.

There are so many ways to answer this depending on what your preferred genres are, which Asian dramas you tend to watch (e.g., Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Korean, Indian, etc.), and many other things. I'm not sure which ones you'll be in the mood for and how to go about this, but I've decided to categorize the recommendations based on language and to just list down whatever are at the top of my head at the time of writing. I might miss a few really good ones, so I apologise in advance lol. I also added some commentary but not the synopsis, because I figured you could probably find a better description of the synopsis out there than whatever I can give, haha. Anyway. On to the list!

Japanese dramas:

1) Cherry Magic. If you've been following me since at least 2020, you'll probably know how dear this show is to me. BL rom com with some magical realism, good acting, great chemistry, cute plot, and overall warm vibes.

2) Midnight Diner. Easy-to-watch show, with each episode written almost as a standalone. Nice to watch if you're trying to relax.

3) Old Fashioned Cupcake. This is not old man yaoi, but the main character is 39 and is quite contemplative about it. This show has great writing, and the main couple's individual character development and relationship development were amazing to watch. Also challenges the expectations of what men of certain ages should or shouldn't do.

4) Rookies. A classic 👌🏼 Based on a manga of the same name, this show is about a teacher helping delinquents achieve their dream of playing baseball at the national level. A bit cheesy at times, but really heart-warming and uplifting. Plus, the theme song slaps big time.

5) Our Dining Table. Food, love, found family. A good, simple show that will give you all the feels.

6) What Did You Eat Yesterday? Now this is old man yaoi. It's a really good show that depicts the day-to-day life of a middle-aged gay couple in Tokyo, from their mundane struggles to their major hurdles and everything in between. The second season is especially beautiful, with well-written character development for a lot of the characters.

7) Nobuta wo Produce. Another classic. You have Horikita Maki, Kamenashi Kazuya, and Yamashita Tomohisa - plenty of eye candy to go around. The story itself is charming and enjoyable, and the OST is a banger.

8) Monster. This one is a movie by Kore-eda. It's just such a good movie that I had to include it in this list.

9) Utsukushii Kare. If you're in the mood for a BL that's a bit more twisted but still sweet and fun, then this one is highly recommended.

Korean:

1) Hospital Playlist. One of my favorite K-dramas. Slice of life, centering around a group of 5 doctors who have been friends since college and are now in their 40s, and have decided to reform their band. The writing beats are quite different from what you'd find in a typical K-drama, so I find it refreshing and interesting. I do have to warn you that you'll need to pay close attention when watching this show so you don't miss anything! Funny, heart-warming, charming, and overall fun. And the music is soooo good. The actors actually learned to play the instruments as part of the show! I wish I could watch this show for the first time again :')

2) Crash Landing on You. If you're going to watch a ""stereotypical"" rom com K-drama, then there is no better place to start. CLOY is SO enjoyable despite all the overused tropes, because the writing is good and the characters are loveable. Fun fact: the actors who play the main couple got married some time after the show!

3) Love Scout. This one is still fresh in my memory because it's recent. Simple, coherent writing, with loveable characters. The female lead in particular is just 👌🏼🥺💞🥹🙏🏼

4) The Flower of Evil. I love this show. Drama, romance, crime, psychological thriller - this girl has got it all. I rewatch this sometimes just to feel something.

5) Vincenzo. A bit difficult to watch at parts due to how brutal some of the characters are, but overall a fun show about lawyers, the mafia, and giving evil people what they deserve. Also makes you think about the whole idea of evil. Also the humor in this is great and there's also some found family thrown in there. This baby has also got it all.

6) Beyond Evil. If you're in the mood for a crime mystery thriller, then this is the show for you. Great, great writing, and there's something lgbtq going on between the 2 main characters......

Chinese:

1) The Untamed. Again, if you've followed me since at least 2020, you'll probably know how unhinged I am about this show. Magic, bRomance, political intrigue, sword fights - you name it, she's got it.

2) Word of Honor. The last few episodes felt rushed, but I still loved the show to bits. Highly recommend.

3) My Fair Princess. The classic Chinese drama. I like it because of the nostalgia associated with it, but it's a pretty great show regardless.

4) We Best Love. First season has strong writing, and the second season has some delicious angst. The brain rot this show gave me. Ugh.

Thai:

1) Enchante. This show got a lot of hate for reasons I don't understand, but this show got me through some pretty dark times, so it'll always be special to me. I love how the MC has many of the traits typically associated with the love interest (e.g., is rich, has a fancy car). And the characters are just charming to me. I also just loved watching the episodes week by week and having something to look forward to.

2) Not Me. In the mood to watch people fight injustice and rebel against a corrupt establishment? Then this is the BL for you. Gun is also just a great actor and makes any show worth watching.

3) Bad Buddy. I had some major issues with this show (as I often do with shows directed by Aof, like Tale of a Thousand Stars), but there are scenes that make Bad Buddy a really enjoyable, good show (as there often are with shows directed by Aof).

4) KinnPorsche. Another really fun one concerning the mafia. And lots of gay romance.

5) Between Us. This is a spin off to Until We Meet Again, but can be watched on its own. Great character and relationship development.

6) Step by Step. This one had SO much potential, but it missed the landing. Still, I had a great time watching it. Watching it as it first aired also made the experience memorable to me, so I'm probably biased because of it.

7) Only Friends. Dysfunctional group of friends who are going thru it. The show can be summed up by the phrase "the girls are fightinggggg". There are a couple of writing choices towards the end that I disliked, but I still enjoyed this messy bitch.

ETA: 8) My School President. A great show! Felt like I was watching an anime.

I also watch some Indian movies but not dramas, so I won't include them here. This list is already long enough as it is lol.

My Live Reactions to Reading Through My 2018 Novel

'Charlotte Wilson wanted more out of life than to be playing gigs at college bars. Her music deserved to be reaching the ears of the forlorn across the country, not just the drunk students swaying off the beat. As the last chord of her song died out, a cheer rose up from the small crowd. Charlotte didn't feel much better. These kids looked for any excuse to cheer when they were this plastered. Looking across the bar, Charlotte tried to make eye contact with her closest friend, but Jennifer was busy serving a drink to a man who looked too old to be going out to college bars. As the applause continued to ring awkwardly in the air, Charlotte leaned forwards into the mic and announced, "Thank you, Clever Street Pub!" Attention drawn, Jennifer shot Charlotte an apologetic smile and called out, "Charlotte Wilson, everybody!" (what i'm learning from this project is that i might struggle to stick landings, but i know how to write an opening)

Guy tries hitting on Charlotte, who immediately starts playing with her engagement ring, and he actually backs off, we love to see it

Mike brought work home because he's working towards a promotion, but he's still trying to make time for the two of them to talk about the wedding aw

I wish I'd given a little more thought to Charlotte's background other than her mother being Hispanic - like, that's a wiiiide range, where is she from? But at the same time, Charlotte having borderline zero contact with her mother and an aggressive lack of interest in connecting with her could kind of keep her from wanting to learn about it ig

Also wish that I got more specific about what part of the city she's from. She talks about how she was raised in NYC but girl that's so vague, that city is Massive

Back story for how Charlotte and Mike met: Mike went to college with one of her childhood friends, and she went out to visit said friend, and the two of them hit it off, and Mike ended up moving out to where she was going to school (Boston) after he graduated

"So..." Mike began as he dropped a sub onto the table in front of her. "We're engaged." "Nice of you to notice." (sillies)

Mike making a one-off comment about them running out of bread is sending Charlotte into an existential spiral about finances

Girl same

'When Charlotte was younger - when she had been growing up and excited about what the future held - she had dreamed up extravagant places. She would live in a house on a quiet street, playing her music and never having to worry about things like the next month's rent and working part-time jobs at restaurants. She and Mike would plan out their wedding without concerns about the budget, and think about their next trip to SoHo instead of worrying about grocery shopping. Life had sounded so exciting as a kid. But the reality of adulthood continually pushed her back down from where she floated with her head in the clouds. Because taking on a few gigs every month didn't pay the bills. And weddings cost a lot of money. And groceries had to be bought.' (see, now I'M gonna be spiraling about finances)

Oop even better for the financial stress: Charlotte just got fired!

She finished her shift to squeeze every dime out of that place that she could 💀 I don't think you can do that, girly

"Oh, Charlie." Mike reached for her with his free hand, the other busy stirring pasta. Charlotte pressed herself into his side, and they stayed there, embracing each other somewhat awkwardly, until Mike had to switch off the burner. He kissed the top of her head and assured her, "You'll find a better job. That place was sucking you dry. Now you'll have some time to focus on your music." Charlotte blew a loose strand of hair from her face. "Yeah, but I need to be earning some decent money if we're ever going to go through with this wedding. Nothing about it is free." "I am!" Mike beamed. "You can be totally broke, and you'll still have me and my free heart." "I'm pretty sure that's the cheesiest thing you've ever said to me." (affectionately, ick lmao call off the wedding)

I wonder what the name of her hit single will be

Ending Thoughts:

I think I officially have to turn in my classic excuse of 'I can't write it' for why I never really write contemporary fiction. Because this isn't bad! It's cute, even if Mike absolutely gave me the ick just then. But in a sweet way! But really, this is good! It has me interested in following along with Charlotte's journey, I like what I've seen of Jennifer and Mike, we have a basis for goals and internal conflict. There are some areas surrounding the setting and Charlotte's personal history that I think could be developed more, but I'm gonna let 2018!Teri cook before I judge it fully.

I've always been intrigued as to why didn't GMMTV give Arm (Weerayut Chansook) a proper pairing, unlike Mike-TopTap, Tay-New, or Off-Gun.

Joss and Luke have been a part of Thai Lakorns, so it's understandable as to why they don't have a permanent male CP. They've paired Mek Jirakit in a BL series now,...Lee Thanat just like Mond Tanutchai are exactly like Joss and Luke. But why is Arm always given BS character roles?

Everytime I see Arm on-screen, I wish to see more of him but his screen time quite often is very less in comparison to other established actors from GMMTV camp. Why? Because the same thing GMMTV has been doing with Gunsmile Changun.

Ohm is versatile just like Singto,...so that's the reason his pairing with Nanon was hugely successful. Krist is paired with Mike which is weird and equally intriguing. And wrt to Bright and Win,...we know how successful they are like Mew and Gulf.

Now my question to you are as follows: [The questions asked below stems from what I've mentioned above, although it talks about many other BL actors too from different camps.]

Why hasn't GMMTV given Arm and Gunsmile a proper role in a BL series as a main lead despite the fact that their screen presence has always been powerful and impressive to say the least?

How was Joss Wayar roped by GMMTV when originally he was a part of Domundi?

Now that I've mentioned about Domundi,...do you have any idea why Mark Sorntast isn't given any main role in a BL series so far?

GMMTV has roped in Perth Thanapon as one of their artist, just like Joong Archen, what kind of roles do you think he will be offered because there's no mention of his in any of the 2022 GMMTV project?

Luke being half-Japanese, and half-American,...how did he land an opportunity to work in the Thai entertainment industry?

I find Lee Thanat and Tay Tawan very sexy together. But Lee has always been a part of non-BL series. Do you think GMMTV has purposely kept him away from BL, or was it his own choice?

And finally,...who from GMMTV decides as to what kind of role should a certain actor play? Does lobbying and influence play a huge role in this regard?

so regarding arm & gunsmile, I think there are two different reasons. for arm's case, I don't think he particularly strives to get leading roles, or at least he's alway been given side characters bc he does so much more than just be an actor at gmmtv, he has his variety show arm share, school rangers also, he does stylist works, he dances, he has his own shop awc studio... the man is busy. so I think he's actually happy with the small roles he has, especially since he still managed to become popular without a big breakout role, but more for his talent & proximity to other big actors. as for gunsmile, I think that sadly he doesn't quite have the "look" for a main lead, which is also why he keeps getting put in bad guy & mafia guy roles despite him being really fucking talented. I think that for him to get a main role, it would need a very specific role that can't be played by the gmmtv "pretty boys", which is pretty rare to come across. but I agree that both arm & gunsmile deserve better, especially gunsmile whom I'm fairly sure would love a main role.

joss actually applied to gmmtv! it was before the other domundi boys got scouted for why r u & now work with mandee regularly, so he applied on his own. it's interesting to think that if he's waited 6 months to a year to join gmmtv, he might have been in why r u & cutie pie lol.

I was surprised that perth wasn’t announced to be the lead of the recently announced mid-year series find yourself that gmmtv is producing, so he'll likely have to wait until the gmmtv 2023 event to have a show announced. as for the kind of show he'll make his gmmtv entrance with, idk why I feel like it won't be a bl but something a bit challenging in terms of acting, or he could get roped into a new bl ship by gmmtv execs, idk... one of the two, but I feel like perth wants to step away from bl so the first option would make more sense.

I don't remember all the details, but basically he met kay (kayavine) in the states when they were studying there, and kay went back to thailand and started his channel, then entered gmmtv, so I feel like luke wanted to come live in thailand. he learned thai very quickly & was very easily accepted into gmmtv.

yeah the leetay ship was so cute, so sad we don't see them together as much as we used to now. I fully feel like it's lee's decision tbh, I'm sure he's been offered bl roles, even baker boys was... very queer to say the least, but lee has remained in straight male lead roles only. and honestly I get him bc he's one of the rare thai actors who has only played in straight romances & has still managed to get himself a decently sized fanbase & pretty well known from bl fans, without having to deal with the toxicity & everything else. also I've said it before, but bl actors are generally regarded as less skilled (for the most part, this has started changing with ITSAY) than straight romance actors, so it's also better for your reputation to be in those kind of shows according to certain people.

so there's not one person who decides who's gonna get the role, but for me the directors have a lot of power, and basically if a director likes you, you're kinda garanteed to always get work with them (for example the 46 days director loving off & putting him in astrophile too, or p'jojo and josstay in 3 will be free and the player, or drake in literally almost every work by p’aof.) there are also a lot of gmmtv execs who push the actors they want in certain roles (for example they pushed mond for gram in not me.) so these two things show that obviously a more famous actor who's already worked with many people & been friendly with them will get more roles, but I also think gmmtv execs are there to regulate things as well, and that's why new actors actually get many roles, though they are smaller. if you are lucky to get noticed on your first role like love or film for example, then you can quickly go up to main lead in a series, but once again it's all about luck & opportunity. and certain actors do audition for certain roles (for example first auditioned for his role as yok in not me), but I think by that time most roles have already been decided by the director & gmmtv execs, who are definitely biased & will push for their favorites over smaller but sometimes better for the role actors.
