are you really convinced that they're gonna give us canon buddie? cause, you know, i obviously hope so, but while there have been hints here and there throughout the past seasons, I kinda think that, if they wanted to imply that something was going to happen at some point, they would've make at least a little more obvious? idk if that makes sense, but. as much as I wish they make it canon, I am worried about it. I don't want to set my expectations too high and be disappointed in the end :(

I totally get not wanting to get your hopes up just to be disappointed in the end. There have been loads of shows that have built up two characters relationships and dropped hints only to never actually follow through so being skeptical makes a lot of sense.

Before this season I was fairly sure it was leading towards Buddie but I did doubt whether or not I was just wearing rose-tinted goggles But the first 4 episodes of this season have crushed any doubts because I genuinely can’t see how this could be leading to anything other than canon buddie.

We’re seeing more and more how intertwined their lives have become. Even if you just look at the last episode there was a boatload of Buddie there.

You have them ‘solving’ the crime together. You’ve got Eddie knowing about Buck’s emergency therapy session AND what it's about - and I don’t just mean a rough what it's about I mean Buck actually told him exactly what he was trying to get out of his emergency therapy session. 

The script could have just as easily had eddie saying “Emergency therapy. I think he’s nervous about his parents coming.” and the fire fam have there “You really think it’s going to be that bad?” that leads into awkward runaway Chimney rather than giving us a frankly kinda weird amount of information for Buck to give his friend before an emergency therapy session.

Yes, that scene is also to show us just how nervous Buck is to see his parents, but again, the same effect could have been had with less of an explanation and I’m still like ?? why did they put that in when we don’t even like, need it. We don’t see Buck use any ‘de-escalation techniques’ with his parents, it’s not used again at any point. 

What I’m babbling on about is that the show wants us to know just how much Buck trusts Eddie and how close and comfortable with one another they are. From silly pranks with Eddie’s son to crime-solving to talking openly about therapy and feelings about the trash Buck calls parents.

Each season they have amped up that relationship and their closeness. If you compare Chimney and Hen’s relationship, Or Hen and Athena’s relationship and the feel of those scenes compared to the feel of our ‘buddie’ scenes.

We might still have a long way to go until we get them together but we’re not so much getting hints of Buddie as getting slapped in the face by them. I do think that some big things are coming soon tho. Them both thinking about getting back on the dating scene so close to each other isn’t a coincidence, Buck having a therapist and sorting through his feelings and finding out about his past and ‘I have a serious boyfriend’ are not a coincidence. 

Eddie being the one that we have Buck talking to after the meal with his parents rather than Hen or Bobby, who are historically way better at dealing with members of the 118 experiencing turmoil is no coincidence.
