#I don’t actually bc my parents say i gained and lost words regularly for a period of months before i started remembering them and using them #consistently. however my sister had a real first word and I sometimes think my parents just cared less by the time i came around and #didn’t pay as much attention ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (via @wordsforrain)
They were paying attention! You legit didn't have a proper "first word" -- your babbling kind of asymptotically approached English over several months and it really was impossible to say when you properly "had" a word.
I think you had the concept of SPEECH down more than the concept of WORDS, so there was like. A sort of grammar to the sounds you strung together? Which often got your general intent across? But when that shifted from gibberish with occasional probably-a-word sounds to mostly words with occasional gibberish? Heck if I know.
Source: me. I was your babble-to-English translator for a few months there.
Do you know what your first word was?
#anyway my first word was “wheel”#I had a proper Helen Keller moment and everything#which I think relieved our parents#because I had apparently realized that Mouth Noises conveyed secret knowledge but couldn't figure out how that conveyance worked#and had been getting very frustrated about that; which made them very tired and equally frustrated because a cranky baby is nobody's friend#whereas wordsforrain was much more cheerful and relaxed about the whole process
