Coming to terms with the fact that the contextualising text in my thesis that isn't just definitions and theorems + proofs is not in fact """flavour text""" but actually essential to understanding what's going on.

#i will confess that i have been mentally calling it flavour text. but no. it's important #i have the kind of mathematician brain that says if what i'm doing is rigorous it *should* all be in the theorems #but that is not how you communicate meaning and intuition to others or even/especially yourself #anyway! today i glimpsed the Big Picture (tm)! it was cool!#liveblogging my masters #jack's misadventures in mathematics #(re: rigour I am sure all the intuitiony stuff *could* in fact be made to be All In The Proofs)#(but that is weellllll beyond the scope of what there's time for)#(and what I am accepting is that giving an intuition for what's out there via Flavour Text is far better than saying nothing #because I can't spell it all out in the theorems and proofs)
