i actually tried reading percy jackson when i was in the target age group (i got the first two books for a birthday).

i recall liking the first book but not really loving it and never read the second one.

its also funny to me that not only was i the target age, i was the target audience (kid with ADHD, yes diagnosed), but Percy's flavor of ADHD was the exact opposite to mine (he struggled to pay attention in school while my brain was like 'oh shit education = best form of stimulation') so he wasnt relatable to me in the slightest.

i did read them within the last few years (and i mean ALL the PJO series not just the original five books). Absolutely loved them as an adult. Magnus Chase i think is my favorite, then trials of apollo (the most recent series. Riordan's writing improved and his worldview has expanded and he learned from the criticism for his other books on how he mishandled his well-meaning desire to increase character diversity. you can feel his growth as an author)

(also a lot of people complain about him putting kids that follow certain religions into his books where specific gods exist and i GET that is uncomfortable but also im pretty sure i remember an interview with him about how he did this bc children of those cultures would ask him to put people like them in his books. he saw kids who wished to see themselves in his books and while he should have worked with sensitivity readers, he did a decent job making those wishes come true and i respect that a lot)

It’s the first Sunday of the month. Woah. Time flies. I got my two months notice from the place I work at. Everything happens so fast.

You know what isn’t happening, though? Writing. And reading, actually. I seem to be in a reading slump as well and I see the “timer” on my library site ticking down so oof I gotta read those ten books. To compare: I finished the five Heroes of Olympus books in 3 days, the five Trials of Apollo books in 5 days, and right now I’ve already spent two weeks on the 3 Magnus Chase books and I am only at the beginning of the third one. I like them as much as the others, but I just don’t feel like reading. This is also why I haven’t posted a Fic Rec Friday in 2 weeks, although I did catch up with For this Day, For this Moment, a Torchwood fic I’m following.

Writing wise, I have so many Thoughts but again when I am writing these days (and reading, for that matter) it’s all for my thesis. But I do have one more gift from the fic line game left, namely the one for @cerriddwenluna​. Have six sentences of that:

(1/3) hi i'm muslim and i have a totally different perception of samirah. while i know and understand that samirah wasn't the best representation of a muslim american, i don't think she's bad at all. i remember reading the part where she says Allahu akbar and being SO delighted that magnus respectfully asks about it and lets her explain because it's also teaching the readers. and despite arranged marriages being a negative stereotype of muslims, it's a definitely a real thing. BUT it's not

(2/3) forced marriage like the stereotype depicts. also marriage between cousins is real in muslim countries. my grandparents are cousins. afaik the stigma around cousin marriage is a western idea- there was a study that stated it could cause birth defects but it was later disproved. i genuinely think rick did a good job of representing this. samirah and amir clearly like each other and if they didn't their families wouldn't force them to get married bc that's not what arranged marriage is. I DO (3/3) have a prob with how samirah is portrayed as an on/off hijabi. with all the research he did, rick could've checked the rules of hijab. i wish he had just made her a non-hijabi that has a scarf with her bc it's magical and so she can pray when she needs to. he does say that the way she wears it is based on what he saw his students do, which is easy to believe because he taught middle school and i've seen it happen in my own school. i don't really accept it as a valid explanation though.

okay, first things first: i loved samirah when i first read magnus chase. i was so happy to see a muslim character that isn’t just defined by their religion in a fantasy book. i was also 14 at the time and i was so overwhelmed by the fact that she’s muslim that i didn’t realize the flaws in her writing. i’m not gonna talk about the allahu akbar thing because i’m honestly conflicted. the way magnus says that “it’s never said in a positive way” was just... not good. but as you said, it’s a teaching moment so i guess i’ll let it slide. my biggest problem is with her relationship with amir. i know that arranged marriage isn’t always forced. i know that marriage between cousins happen. i know this because i’m a muslim born and raised in a muslim country. i have my personal problems with arranged marriage as a whole but i acknowledge that it’s not always forced marriage. but the way it’s written in the magnus chase books makes me really uncomfortable. first and foremost it’s because she was 12 when they got “engaged”. now, as i said before, i live in a muslim country but arranged marriages here never start this young. you have to at least finish your education first before getting engaged. most people get engaged in their 20s. and the justification for it here? even worse. “When [my mother] died … well, in the local community, I was damaged goods, a bastard child. My grandparents were lucky, very lucky, to get the Fadlans’ blessing for me to marry Amir. I won’t really bring anything to the marriage. I’m not rich or respectable or –” (Magnus Chase, Sword of Summer) this line made me uncomfortable from the moment i read it because it’s samirah beating herself up for something that’s not her fault. her grandparents used her to make the image of their family better (and yes, i know this happens a LOT in muslim societies especially with women but it’s an awful thing that shouldn’t happen) and she’s tying her entire worth to her relationship with amir. yes, i know she had a crush on him since she was 12 but that’s not an excuse to get engaged! i know that some people say that arranged marriage is about choice, but a 12 year old girl can’t make a choice like this especially when she feels so insecure about herself. every time she talks about her grandparents/what they think of her it’s always something negative too. she didn’t agree to this engagement because she had a crush on amir, it’s because she feels guilty over something she had no control over (her mom’s relationship with loki and having her) and wants to fix it by making the family’s image better. again, yes, this happens in muslim communities but it’s not a positive thing and it shouldn’t be portrayed in a positive light by anyone, especially not by an american white guy who thinks he can write something like this just because he memorized a surah and some hadith. i have no problems with other muslims finding representation in samirah al-abbas, i personally think she’s great. but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any flaws in her writing, especially considering all of RR’s characters of color, especially the girls, have problems like this too.

As a concept crossover, I think it would be really fun to see Babette in the percy jackson universe (including kane chronicles and magnus chase and whatnot) where the various pantheons are still alive and thriving!

Ooh, I’ve thought about this quite a bit actually! There are usually two main versions to the crossover. Either Babette’s taken to Camp Half-blood or it’s her children. Unfortunately, I don’t know much about the Kane Chronicles or the Magnus Chase series, but I plan on reading them! Eventually...

She’s in the same class with Percy Jackson (either first or second book).

Everyone thinks she’s a demigod and Babette’s unwilling to correct them because, well, she has no idea what’s going on and wants to keep her cards to her chest.

She gets claimed by Aphrodite upon they first meeting (due to the connection between Aphrodite and Ishtar). It’s a really weird moment for her, tbh (“You ain’t my real mum!”).

Mr. D is unnerved by this girl for some reason he doesn’t know.

Babette gets caught up into Percy’s plot because he reminds her of herself, tbh.

Babette does not know what’s going on at any given time.

Ares v Babette bcs why the fuck would she let a little kid fight a Greek god? He gets his arse handed to him thoroughly.

She is mum friend based on the fact that she is mum.

Some Camper: Damn, you act like I wish my god-parent did.

Her Kids

Ezra and Yael get dragged to Camp Half-blood by a satyr (Grover?) for their own safety. No time to tell mum, we’re being attacked by monsters!

Babette is absolutely furious that her kids were taken without being told, being forbidden from leaving, and put into dangerous situations.

Like, Camp Half-blood thinks they’re under attack because of the absolute fury Babette feels when she arrives at Camp Half-blood.

Mr. D was Never Prepared For This Eventuality.

Understanding the monster threat to her kids, she does concede to the satyr’s decision. She’s still angry, but that’s more at being afraid her kids were kidnapped or something like that.

She also makes all the Camp Half-blood kids jealous bcs she’s, you know, actually a parent??? Who, you know??? Raises her kids???

Babette and family get caught up in Percy’s plot and just fucks it all over due to being a goddess willing to fuck everything up if her family’s in trouble.

Some gods are afraid she might decide to overthrow the gods (bcs Ishtar was all about that conquering other domains), but she’s got two kids, a wife, and an actual job that isn’t just being a god.

after that, johann warmed up to everyone Very Quickly

lucretia (his godmother) would read him (and his younger sister but im not there yet) books all the time!!!! he would also sometimes just. grab one of his books, walk over to lucretia, hand it to her, and then sit in her lap and lucretia would always be like "alright guess it's story time"

he's very protective of his younger sister but he also knows that she could kick his ass but they really are best friends

(listen im an only child but id be lying if i said i didnt sometimes wish i had siblings so i try to capture sibling dynamics the best i can)

as he gets older, he starts learning magic (from angus, honorary cool older cousin) and he specializes in illusion magic!!

tbh idk what i want to do for her class yet? im thinking of her being a fighter, after magnus, and wielding a fucking ginormous two handed axe

so, i’ve got a devious gay plan.

i’ve been giving my siblings books to read ever since they were old enough to read.i love reading and i want them to love it too and usually they love the stuff i give them. i’ve been trying to rec the percy jackson series to them for a while, but my parents heard me reading it out loud to them and declared it “too violent”.

but now!! now. about ten minutes ago my sister (9, great artist, i’ll call her kitty bc she loves them) has informed me that the lightning thief is on their private catholic school summer reading list, and mom and dad got it from the library for them. (because everything is okay if the church says it is. whatever. this works with the plan). my brother (11, he can be star bc he loves both wars and lord) is sitting on the couch currently reading that copy out loud to my other brother (9, i’ll call him park bc he was v proud of being a “park stroller” in his school’s mary poppins). i ask kitty if she’d like to read my copy, she says yes so i immediately go get it for her. she’s one chapter in now.

it occurs to me that you find out nico is gay in heroes of olympus, not to mention the queer/trans (and poc and disabled!) rep that comes into magnus chase and trials of apollo. it also occurs to me that finding out nico was gay was the very beginning of me realizing that...hey...maybe gay people aren’t evil.

i’m moving out soon (and by soon i mean in ten days) and i’ll likely try to start transitioning asap once i’m out of this house. my parents are not above cutting me off from seeing the kids if i get “too queer” for them and i really don’t want them to grow up hating me so i’m trying to keep it subtle. i want to at least get to a point where i can email star, who’s the oldest of the littles. i can’t really communicate with them through my sister (17, princess on all her social media) because mom and dad are trying to either get her arrested or send her back to rehab.

i can’t talk about this stuff to them directly because that would definitely get me immediately cut off if my siblings mentioned it to my parents in the slightest. if it’s in a book, though, i can 100% claim ignorance.

if y’all have any good lgbt+ children’s book recs PLEASE let me know. i’ve already been recced skullduggery pleasants so i’ll probably tell them about that. i can’t rec any lgbt shows or movies bc everything they watch is very closely supervised. they stopped trying to go through books when i was a kid though bc i just read so many they couldn’t keep up, and between the three of them they read way too many for my parents to look into all of them lol. they love science fiction in particular and they’re all obsessed with marsupials for some reason(?) they also just love animals in general. fantasy is probably a good bet too as they devoured harry potter. star really loves school comedy type books (he’s read all the wimpy kid books, potterwookie, the origami yoda series...). kitty is reading way above her grade level so don’t be afraid to rec long books. park loves graphic novels and audio books.

i would really love it if they didn’t have to struggle with this as much as i did. i ant them to know it’s okay to be gay or trans, regardless of whether or not they turn out to be.

dead ass pjo was that seemingly “normal” kids fantasy series with a seemingly white straight kid saving the world and it’s a fucking success. percy jackson? iconic! ppl fucking love percy and his character and then hoo comes out? everyone is pumped bc everyone is in love with that world. the first book? two main bad ass poc characters. the second book? two more bad ass poc characters! the fourth book and there’s literally a gay character and it’s not like disney could say no. hoo ends and then there’s magnus chase and ppl are fucking pumped bc that’s annabeth chase’s cousin and in the first book there’s a muslim girl and by the second book there’s a transgender and genderfluid character. trials of apollo? a main gay couple in a happy relationship and a fucking bi character. could disney say no? no. literal 10 year olds are reading books with heaps of representation all published by disney. rick riordan played the game. you step in thinking ur just gonna get white cishets and you walk out surrounded by different cultures and rainbows.

I saw him speak on /writing in the UK right before (or early in on when) his series hit it big. Planned. Definitely planned. 

Thousand percent planned. Also Percy? Has a learning disability. RR’s son inspired him to write bc he is ADHD and dyslexic. This was all planned. He is all about inclusivity and representation.

He just recently turned down an invitation to be recognized by the Texas state legislature because of of their new bathroom bill.

He also makes his books incredibly funny, which is rather rare for YA and makes them more accessible to kids who don’t really like to read. In addition to having loads of POV character who have trouble reading themselves.

Do you have any queer book recs? Preferably not the kind where it's like a coming out book or a Queer Struggle™?

Honestly I don’t go seeking out a lot of queer books for just that reason - also because being ace and mostly aro, I tend to go for heavy world building and action/adventure, with romance being mostly incidental, if there at all. Also series that last a while and let me know the characters really well.

I also don’t tend to read books that aren’t already at least somewhat popular, so if you want more indie queer book recs, please go check out https://twitter.com/tatehallaway this badass lady on the twitters. I haven’t read any of her books (yet, entirely because I haven’t read anything longer than a couple thousand words in way too long) but I met her at World Con where she hosted a panel on diversity in fiction. She’s a queer writer and is super approachable and friendly. I’m sure she’d be able to point you in the right direction, if not rec some of her own books!

I also would totally recommend checking out Mark Oshiro who recently wrote and got his own book published!! I’m super excited for him, and I’m gonna buy it at some point. His reviews of books are really entertaining too, and he gets pretty autobiographical during them. His fans often recommend queer books and TV shows to him too - so then you get to watch him cry when he realizes that this character that he fell in love with is SURPRISE GAY and he’s so happy he can’t with the emotions. (He’s also a total sweetheart in person holy crap. I got to talk to him at World Con too.)

There’s also TritonYA, which is a publishing house that is working on publishing queer YA genre fiction. I haven’t read any of the 3 books they posted so far because I don’t have the f o c u s these days, and none of them really caught my interest from the summary.

As for books I’VE read... (Apologies that these are like all from cis straight authors afaik, they’re just the ones who I read/ started reading 10+ years ago when I used to read all the time... and back then there just wasn’t the visibility of queer authors, and I didn’t go searching for particular books. I just don’t read very much anymore aaahhh!)

The Circle of Magic series by Tamora Pierce is FANTASTIC. It’s very much romance light - very heavy on the friendship and bonds between the four main characters. But one of the four MCs is lesbian, and there are other queer secondary characters. One of the other girls reads to me as ace/aro too, but that hasn’t been confirmed. (And like 99% of the time my hopes are dashed, but I can see Pierce actually writing an ace character who stays ace.)

Keep in mind that when the series starts they’re like 10, so romance doesn’t come into play until the later books when they’re 16, which is when one of the characters realizes she’s into girls and not boys.

The series is so good too. Pierce’s world building is so good always. She’s like my fuckin idol when it comes to how she does it. The lesbian chara’s character arc about realizing she’s into girls is handled pretty well IMO - the world as a whole isn’t homophobic, so the struggle is mild and mostly self discovery. And the romance is centered around the political struggles happening at the time - is the girl she likes flirting back bc REAL FEELINGS or bc SNEAKY POLITICS!? And SHOULD SHE STAY OR SHOULD SHE GO. Which, given the story as a whole, (and her other writings) this is pretty much in line with how a het romance would be treated.

Trials of Apollo and the Magnus Chase series by Rick Riordan are pretty good too. I don’t like Riordan’s worldbuilding like I love Pierce’s, and he’s writing as a cis straight man but his books are still a lot of fun. There’s a gay kid who gets a couple of POV chapters in an earlier series, (Percy Jackson) but he’s got a lot more of The Struggle going on in his story. (Kinda understandable considering he was born in the 30s, but still.)

Trials follows, well, Apollo who is unapollogetically bi because that’s canon greek myth. (Incidentally, one of his kids is dating the Struggle boy from before and they are very cute together, if a fairly background relationship). Apollo is also totally full of himself and hilarious, and his trials are of course gonna be about how he has to eat a big fuckin slice of humble pie because that’s how grecian trials work. Only like one or two books are out so far, but it looks like it’s gonna be a lot of fun!

Magnus Chase is about a guy who dies and gets sent to Valhalla and becomes a demigod basically. In the second book, a third MC is introduced who is genderfluid/bigender, and by the end of it, Magnus is kinda crushing on her so, that’s cool! I’m not sure yet how it’s gonna be played, since Magnus so far seems to be striaght, and sometimes his love interest is a boy... but I have a pretty good feeling it’s going to be addressed.

Riordan’s a cis straight white dude but he’s definitely done his research. Some of the bits come off kinda “here’s my research laid out” but he started his first series with the goal of, “I want my son to see heroes who are like him. Heroes with ADHD and dyslexia.” And now he’s like “I have fans who are poc, and fans who are queer, and I want them to see themselves too.” And his stories are fun. Which is the important part, in my opinion!

Gunnerkrigg Court by Tom Siddell is actually a webcomic, not a novel, but the MC is most likely aro/ace, and her best friend is bi, who currently is in a relationship with another girl - and there’s at least two other queer couples in the story... and strong hints that one of the characters is a trans girl, and another that used to be a female rabbit but is now a male human, gender unknown as of yet. They didn’t seem particularly bothered by the change though.

It’s also a book about robots and magic and birds and ROBOTS and family legacy and friendship and love and R O B O T S!!! Listen it’s just REALLY GOOD OKAY? Please read it. Please please please!!

The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Johnathan Stroud is one of my all time favorite book series, though it’s the least explicitly queer. There’s no romance in it whatsoever, and the human MC reads to me as aro/ace. (The one time he feels something resembling sexual attraction, he realizes almost instantly that something is Wrong and that he was put under a spell. Lmao...) Human MC is also a ginormous fucking shitlord but I love him a lot, and compared to all the other shitlords in the series, he’s actually pretty moral.

Demon MC is also a shitlord, and somehow works as human MC’s moral compass. Also he’s hilarious. And okay, so... when I was younger, I never really read into anything. But demon MC has this boy from his past who he absolutely loves a lot. You can choose to read it whichever way you want, but it’s a very deep and strong love. QP is likely though unintentional hahaa! Very important... I really need to read the prequel book to see more into how the relationship developed...

A girl is introduced as an MC in the second? and third book. She’s Very Good and also not a love interest. Like it’s way easier to read into a romance between the demon and the boy from his past than it is to read into girl MC and boy MC.

Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner This one I actually got on rec from the librarian I asked for queer books. It’s an older book, like from the 80s and this one I’m pretty sure the author IDs as bi, so hey that’s at least one rec from a queer author. The book is just set in a fantasy world where sexuality is like WHATEVER! and everyone fights with swords and honor and the MC and everyone else are all total fucking pricks but also bisexual.

It’s the most adult and romancy book out of all of them, but the love scenes aren’t explicit or anything. Definitely a recommended read if you wanna see some earlier rep. The copy of the book I got from the library had a recommendation by GRRM on the cover - one that I think predated his rise to fame. You can definitely see why he’d like it. There’s lots of political drama, affairs, murder, swords, etc.

People die, and I don’t necessarily want to spoil you on if the MC or the MC’s love interest dies unless you want me to (You’re welcome to ask!), but it IS a romance, and it’s not centered around The Struggle at all, and I don’t think it counts as Bury Your Gays if EVERYONE is queer!

So that’s what I have off the top of my head. I only counted MAIN characters in this, none of that “someone was gay once in the background see? representation!!!” crap. And like I said, it’s been a while since I’ve really sat down and read anything in earnest. The Swordspoint book was the only one I found while I was actively looking for queer books, the rest is just happy happenstance!

1.How old were you when you read the Percy Jackson books?

I was 11 when I first started reading them 😂 I was a tiny bby

2.What year did you read them in?

Does this mean academic year or actual year? Because I read them in year 7 (6th Grade) so that would have been in somewhere around 2010 I think???

3. What caused you to read them?

My older brother had read them and recommended The Lightning Thief to me and a selection of books were being given out at my school for free to encourage kids to read and The Lightning Thief happened to be one of them. And the rest is history 😂

4.Which of the series have you read in the PJO universe?

All of them~ I have read every book in the PJO, HoO, KC, and MCGA series and I’ve just preordered The Dark Prophecy at my local book store so I can keep up to date with ToA. I’ve also read all the side books like Demigod Diaries and Demigods and Magicians, and the two books of Professor Percy and they’re all aligned in chronological order on my book shelve because I’m a fucking nerd OTL

5. What is your favorite series in the PJO universe?

Oh god help me. I don’t know??? I love them all for different reasons??? I find myself ranting most to other people about HoO but the Magnus Chase series is probably my favourite because not only is it a wonderful story but The Hammer of Thor was the first time I had ever read about a genderfluid character and the way Alex was portrayed was just so wonderful to me that I will reread that book over and over again, specifically on his pages because it’s kinda like seeing a little bit of myself in my favourite world. It heightens my sense of escapism and belonging there that’s for sure XD

Overall?? Either Zeus (because he was the world’s first fuckboi) or Bianca Di Angelo. As an older sibling, I could never imagine leaving my younger sibling all alone just because I wanted a bit more freedom in my life. It’s incredibly selfish and I just can’t ever forgive her for it. She may have been a hero and an interesting character and I was really torn up when she died but I will never forgive her for the way she treated her younger brother.

8.What are your headcanons?

THERE ARE TOO MANY TO LIST!!! But one of my main headcanons that I will list here (I’ll message you others if you ever read the whole universe) is that Nico and Anubis know each other and get along. Now this started because they’re described as looking very similar to each other (black, shaggy hair, dark brown eyes, pale af with a similar fashion sense of just black on black) and it kind of snowballed once I read Son Of Neptune. Because to me, it would make so much sense for Nico to know about other pantheons long before the other demigods. Why? Because Death is universal across mythology. And Nico, as the son of Hades, needs to know about his death rituals which- I think- would lead him to researching the other pantheons and learning that immortality really is forever. But yeah, i just love the idea of Nico and Anubis being friends and looking out for one another because they both understand the stigma around death but they’re both actually kind of dorky the minute they stop being angry??? But yeah, there’s just one of my headcanons and look how long that took to summarise OtL

I try to OTL it’s just, with characters i love and adore so much I’m so scared of doing them a disservice??? If that makes sense? I’ve got a thousand scenarios in my head but when I try to write I end up starting at a blank screen for 30 minutes before going back and rereading the books again XD

11.What’s your favorite scene?

From PJO- When Percy offers Pandora’s Pithos to Hestia as an offering. It’s just such an important act at the time and I just love it so much!!!!From HoO- uuuurgh it’s a tie up between Jason comforting Nico after Croatia and then the ending with the two camps and Reyna being a badass. From ToA- I know this isn’t really a scene but when Apollo makes the remarked about Achilles, Briseis and Patroclus because Iliad jokes~~ 😂 but other than that, probably when Apollo starts to realise how shit a parent he actually is and feeling kinda guilty about it. I just love seeing him evolve as a person rather than stay the same immortal fuckboi forever. From KC- THE FUCKING CAN OPENER!!! I laughed for about an hour when I first read the bit when Carter finds out about Horus possessing him. I actually couldn’t read past that bit without laughing over and over again 😂 From MCGA- When Alex was lying down on the Bifrost. I always imagine it as a very beautiful scene because he’s got this rainbow light all around him but it also makes me feel sad for some reason I’ve yet to pin down. But yeah, Alex being pretty and melancholy surrounded by rainbow light~ From Demigods and Magicians- probably when Setne gets sucked into the snow globe. That was a good day reading that.

I have a few! Solangelo is my favourite altogether tho because I love the contrast between the two (I’m a sucker for the night/day/death/life symbolism in a relationship) but I also love Percabeth, Jiper, Sam/Amir, Fierrochase, Sadie/Anubis/Walt (what is that relationship called??? I can’t remember OtL)

14.Favourite platonic relationship ?

Annabeth and Piper, Percy and Jason, Annabeth and Sadie, Piper and Hazel, Grover and Percy

15.Favourite familial relationship?

NICO AND HAZEL, NICO AND REYNA, NICO AND HADES, NICO AND JASON, (basically anyone who treats Nico like family and cares about him tbh) Percy and Sally, Thalia and Jason, Piper and Leo, Sadie and Carter, Sam and Magnus, Magnus and Annabeth (the little we’ve been given anyway), Sam and Alex, Apollo and his kids??? Like the way he’s actually starting to genuinely care and he feels mildly guilty at how much they’re supporting and caring about him when he’s done none of that for them???

16.What are your notps?

Reyna and Nico. Can’t stand that ship. Also Octavian and Rachel. Or anyone with Rachel really. Same with Percy and Artemis??? Like, no???? Artemis is a maiden for eternity, she has no interest in men whatsoever??? And Rachel is the oracle of Delphi so she’s sworn to not be with people for as long as she is the oracle??? I just don’t get it.

16.What house do you think Percy is in?

See this is really hard! Percy is certainly brace and noble enough to be in Gryffindor but he is fatally loyal to the people he loves and he works incredibly hard which are more Hufflepuff traits! But at the same time he can be cunning and tricky when he’s in a fight. But he’s not really ambitious enough to be a Slytherin and, while intelligent, he won’t follow up on an idea just because of the allure of knowledge so he’s not really a Ravenclaw…urgh I want to put him in Hufflepuff but idk. Either Hufflepuff or Gryffindor.

17.What house do you think Annabeth is in?

Either Ravenclaw or Gryffindor. Like she will battle past her ADHD and dyslexia for the pursuit of knowledge and to better specialise herself in the areas she wants to but at the same time she walked into her worst nightmares, then fell into Tartarus, got out of Tartarus, then went to war all within the span of a month and a half. That takes Gryffindor courage right there. So yeah, either Gryffindor or Ravenclaw.

18.Thoughts on Luke?

I always feel really bad for Luke. Because he’s so relatable. It’s easy to see how he made the choices he did because he honestly thought that the Titans could be better because the gods mistreatment was all he had ever known. And it hurts what happened to him because he is the classic tragic hero; he made the wrong choices and the minute he realises what a mess he’s made of things, it’s already too late to stop anything. But he was able to do the right thing in the end and I just get really emotional whenever I think of that scene. It hurts too much 😭

19.What race do you think Percy is?

I don’t really know. I mean, we know he’s got a lot of his appearance from Poseidon so that means he should look very Grecian/Mediterranean, maybe he even has a sort of olive skin tone??? Idk. I guess whenever I think of Percy I just think of the kids I used to see on skateboards down at the local park. But yeah, probably Grecian if I had to pick.

20.What do you think of Frank and Hazel’s relationship?

I think it’s really cute. I like how it’s so fresh??? Because with Percabeth that relationship grew out of friendship over five books and Jiper has a natural flow to it with all the fragility and insecurity of a new relationship so it still works. But Hazel and Frank knew each other for such a short period of time before they started crushing on each other and I think it’s sweet to see kind of the love and first sight thing but warped slightly due to the complications that come with their lives. It’s interesting to see them struggle through all the confusion of a brand new relationship but still trying to keep themselves together. It’s nice to see that kind of love rather than the comfortable love of Percabeth or the steady love of Jiper. 21.What do you think of Calypso and Leo’s relationship?

I love it!!! At first I was skeptical but their banter and denial was really funny and the way Leo was determined to make it back to her. I had always wanted someone to treat Calypso right and I’m glad that Leo has someone now who will see underneath all the humour as well as appreciating him for himself :)

22.Do you follow Rick on any social media platforms?

23.What did you think of the movie?

I liked the visual effects but that was about it. And even then it was like, nice snakes, now where’s the plot??? I really did not like those movies. They need to be buried with the Avatar movie that never existed in my opinion.

24. What are your thoughts on the upcoming musical?

I’m really looking forward to it! I think they cast a really good Percy and I really like what I’m hearing so far. I love musicals and I understand there’s a bigger limit on what you can do on a stage compared to a film so I’m more lenient towards differences between the stage and the book.

25.Do you own any of the books and if so, which ones?

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH…..I have doubles of all of them OTL but there’s a reason for that!! One copy for myself so that I can always read them and then I lend out the second copies to my friends who are curious about this world that I won’t ever shut up about.

26.Which character are you most like, personality wise?

Idk really. Maybe Will??? Because I’m kinda easy going and I try to help out other people but if you piss me off you will know about it??? And it always takes people by surprise if they don’t know me very well at how angry I can be??? But yeah, maybe Will.

27.Which character do you look the most like?

If any of the characters have rainbow hair, I have not been informed of this! Nah but I don’t know. Without my coloured hair I just kinda look like a ghost with brown hair and colour changing eyes OTL Maybe Sadie because I used to be blonde but I dyed my hair so many times it turned brown and she streaks her hair a lot so yeah, Sadie Kane :)

27.If you could cosplay as any character, who would it be?

Okay I have cosplayer Nico before but I’m going to be cosplaying Alex at the next con I’m going to (unfortunately without her heterochromia because I’m allergic to contact lenses OtL)

28.What’s your favorite cover from the series?

Is it bad to say Blood of Olympus because Leo’s got a chainsaw in it? XD but yeah, actually Hammer of Thor because the Wolf mask on that cover with the eerie green glow across it is really cool!!

29.What are some books you would recommend to another fan?

Assuming these are books related to the PJO universe then The Demigod and Magicians crossover collection are definitely worth the read (assuming you’ve read both HoO and KC) and the Magnus Chase series because they are definitely worth branching away from the Greek and Roman gods.

If that means other series in general then His Dark Materials for definite and probably the Iliad.

30.Do you have any merchandise related to the series?

I do! I have a tshirt with Percy’s quote about procrastination on it (deadlines don’t seem real to me until I’m staring one in the face), and I have a matching charm bracelet, hair bow, earrings and necklace set with pendants that all say Camp Half-Blood on them

31.Any fan casts?

Not really. As long as they look the age of the characters *glares at the film* and they have the majority of the same features *again glares at the films* then I don’t really mind too much.

32.What did you think of the ending of Heroes of Olympus, if you read it?

I personally loved it. I agree it did feel a tiny bit anticlimactic over in Greece what with the gods kicking butt for the first time in the entire series but what happened between the camps and Gaia’s forces there was really cool. And the reconciliation of the camps afterwards and how everyone was getting along was really nice. And of course, the fact that Calypso was finally freed was a big A+ in my book.

33.Would you want to be connected to the Greek, Egyptian, Roman, or Norse Gods?

I think, as far as connected in the PJO universe way goes, I’d want to be a Magician for the House of Life. Because at least then I get a choice in whether or not I want a god in my life. If you’re a Demigod you get no choice whatsoever. If you’re just a magician then other than fighting in the apocalypse, you have a choice on what you want to do with your life (plus magicians can use electronics without calling down monsters on their heads)

34.What character from the universe do you think you would be best friends with?

Idk. It’s a tie up between Sadie, Leo and Magnus because they all have a sarcastic wit which I find hilarious but they all have differences that make me want to befriend them. Like with Sadie I could hang out with her any time of the week, and she has a really gives-no-shit attitude that I love (because I give too many shits about things) but at the same time she really cares a lot about her family and her friends which is important to me. Leo is hilarious in general but at the same time really insecure about stuff and I love helping people out and learning from them so I’d probably latch on to Leo and not stop bothering him about machines because all of it is really interesting. And then Magnus is a sarcastic little nerd who tries to be tough but is actually a sunflower and yeah, I have a lot of friends like that 😘😘😘

35.What’s the saddest scene from all the books?

Bob asking whether Percy would say hello to the stars and sun for him. That kills me every time to even think about. Fuck, now I’m crying 😭

36.What scene makes you the happiest?

Any scene of platonic friendship and love is guaranteed to make me happy. But most of all, when Hades told Nico he wanted him to be happy. That just killed me inside because it’s such a difference from the Last Olympian and Nico deserves happiness after all the shit he’s been through.

Umm.... I think it was the beginning of the school year???? This year’s school year??? Like the week before school started.

Kinda a bit of everything. There is literally not one specific thing. But mostly I guess fandom stuff like Carry On, PJO/HoO/MCGA/Whatever Rick writes, Voltron, SPN, Harry Potter, TMI/TID/TDA, and relatable posts

I have @beyondthepagesbook which is where I have a few chapters of a novel I’m working on up, @harrypotterstorybook which is supposed to be a Harry Potter fan art and fanfic collab that I’m getting together that still needs more fan artists and writers!!!!! Why did you choose your URL?

Hehehehe.... So when I first created this blog I was pretty much the same as I am now and obsessed with Carry On (although this blog seems to be more about PJO idk why or how it just is XD) but I kinda wanted to have something that showed that I would be multifandom. So I thought about book references I could use and I thought about The Insidious Humdrum from Carry On and basically I figured that “theinsidiousbookworm” was kinda showing that I luv Carry On way to much but at the same time showing that I luv to read and stuff. Then I switched it for christmas and the username got taken, but I still loved “theinsidious____��� so I brainstormed usernames that I could use with that beginning. Then, I pretty much came up with “theinsidiouscinnamonroll” bc I knew that most of my fav characters are Cinnamon Rolls TM and I probably would be considered a cinnamon roll so ye here we are :p
