Kojima needs to have his need for having you pull the trigger on mother figures examined
I'm about 20 hrs into Death Stranding (and 6 years late so forgive me for stating the obvious) but it really is the literal inverse of a video game
Or like, the total gamification of what is negative space in conventional games
I.e. the grind, the resting, the huge distance backtracking, the inventory management the sanitary breaks, the literal real time resting, the empty void like feel of the environments, invisible enemies
#among other issues good grief#for real for real#i just wrapped it up#a reminder of why i parted with the mgs series#it's a ride for sure#but it could be so much better with tight writing#and more personable characters#in summary: journey did it better#but it still has amazing moments#i guess this game is a perfect measure of your inner masochist#but nothing it does hasn't been done before and better#and when the real emotional beats are over literal dead babies#how refined are you really sir#i don't know if it's bold to go there or just aiming for cheap shots#and when you have to ask#this sounds way more negative than i intend to it was very enjoyable and almost spectacular at times#and did i sob yes i did (tho journey did that bit better too)#unacceptably clunky at times#i had stuck on ugly lowpoly geometry rocks in skyrim mountains deja vu too many times#not to mention the overencumbrance but to my surprise i enjoyed that as a gameplay thing that can't be healthy#but seriously re: story the kojima bloat i have no patience for it in 2025#it's what keeps it from greatness#done ranting#do totally recommend in the end#bc unlike the tripe coming out from AAA lately at least he's out there risking his neck and our sanity and i love him for that#FIN
