i mean for real look up other actors' deliveries of the queen mab monologue and then come back and tell me any of them did it better than harold perrineau
like most of them are just. saying the words like any other, or trying to spin a tale kind of randomly which i guess is fine and sort of establishes mercutio as being Out There, but they don't particularly characterize him as standing out that much
but harold perrineau delivers that speech like a man with some serious shit he needs to sort through, and strongly sets up the kind of character who would throw himself into a duel on impulse and scream a plague on both your houses! while dying senselessly
none of the others make mercutio so manic, so hectic, a candle so bright that it's burning itself out in a blaze of bitter glory
his mercutio is gregarious, living large, here for a good time not for a long time, living fast and dying young and boiling with energy and a kind of rage under the surface like he wants to burn the world down and let it take him with it
his is the most compelling and realistic mercutio i've ever seen
no other portrayal can compare
#romeo + juliet#baz luhrman's romeo and juliet#harold perrineau#mercutio#i'm mostly meh about the movie itself but by god this man is the best mercutio i've ever seen

Re-watching the ol' Baz Romeo + Juliet and they really had the audacity
The casting. The gun check outside the party. The iconography. These FACES! Leo! Claire! Everyone talks about Johnny Legz in his Virgin Mary waistcoat but spare a thought for his red sequinned number with the huge starched white collar. The cars! The Montague Boyz. The queerness. Oh my god. Everyone looks so good. No stationary surface was spared a gilding or a touch of glitter. Whatever it is Baz is huffing I hope he has a lifetime supply

EPIC vs The Odyssey - The Troy Saga infographic
Full infographic on main site - https://greekmythcomix.com/comic/epic-vs-the-odyssey-the-troy-saga/
Accompanying post with text - https://greekmythcomix.com/2024/07/22/epic-vs-the-odyssey-the-troy-saga-infographic/
I love EPIC the Musical, LOVE it, and have been following its progress for some time now.
A few weeks ago I was watching a video post where Jorge Rivera-Herrans was talking about how it’s not a direct retelling, and fans shouldn’t base their knowledge of the Odyssey on EPIC, especially if they’re at school.
SO I made this - an infographic explaining the differences.
Why? I’m going to be teaching the Odyssey again myself in September (for the 15th…16th time? I forget) and I’d love to introduce my students to EPIC… BUT I also want them to know the Odyssey well and not write the wrong thing in their exams (I used to teach English Lit too and remember well the Romeo and Juliet vs Baz Luhrman ‘no, they didn’t have helicopters’ essay debacle), hence this loving infographic series. I figure other teachers may get some use out of it too!
Full comic-infographic in a better-looking format (and a post containing all the text as it’s too long for ALT) is on the website - GreekMythComix.com (You’ll also find comics about Nostos, Xenia, and a big chunk of the Odyssey retold and explained for students!)
Now to go consume The Thunder Saga which I’ve been saving for the Summer Holidays!
EDIT: I’ve fixed it on the main site but can’t here: I’ve written Eumaeus instead of Eurylochus on the character scroll under Full Speed Ahead. Damn, too many Eury-prefixes!

ALSO! I think it's bc I just associate Baz Luhrman movies with music (Moulin Rouge being a musical and Romeo and Juliet and the Great Gatsby both having very distinct soundtracks) and something about the way he uses light in his shots constantly made me feel like Hugh Jackman was about to burst into song in Australia and then he just. Didn't.
Which is fine, it's already 4 movies in one and didn't need to add another genre but like. Romance adventure musical set in Australia with him as a drover would've been a Much better movie, even if they just did a jukebox musical even though I know you don't like those as much
a romance adventure musical with hugh jackman and nicole kidman wouldve slapped so hard they didnt need Any of that other stuff my god. youre so right and your brain is huge

Wiggly Worm Wed-thursday!! 🧠🪱
Was tagged by @devondespresso!

I'm only just getting back to consistent writing after absconding to Scotland and then being sick (still sick, wear masks, children!), and am swamped with my bangs, but here's a brainworm anyway.
I keep thinking about movie-au's, or whatever they're called when you take the plot of a movie and use your blorbos. And, darlings, my fellow steddie-brainrot afflicted dears... I give you Romeo+Juliet, the Baz Luhrman movie, not the Shakespeare play. (I just wanted to specify, okay.)
It has EVERYTHING.
Eddie would, of course, be Romeo and Steve Juliet, although casting Stev as the hopeless romantic would be one's initial response, but no, the Capulet's ARE the Harrington's, especially Capulet senior (I forget his name, sorry!)
IDK who everyone else would be, maybe the Corroded Coffin boys are Eddie's posse, with Gareth being Mercutio (who has secretly been banging Tybalt, who is... dundundun, Billy.)
The priest would be Mr Clarke and Wayne would be both of Eddie-Romeo's parents.
Yeah. That's all I got. WIll likely never write this.
BONUS WORM!
You know that lovely old film, Some Like It Hot? Make it Stobin, is all I'm saying.

Sorry, too tired to tag anyone. Feel free to do this, if the mood strikes you!

Please don't judge me I know nothing about theatre, but why is he wearing modern day clothes ?
as opposed to 16th hundred clothing? stage plays often have new interpretations and adaptations, so while the text will be original Shakespeare the props and clothing will be adapted to a different vision depending on the director
have you watched 1996 Romeo + Juliet by Baz Luhrman? it's an amazing version of Shakespeare that has kept the play's words but it is set in the 1990s

Here's a Halloween ask because you seem hyped and my country doesn't celebrate it: what do you think would be good couple/group costumes for some of your fave Smosh ships/dynamics? Also I love your edits so so so much they really scratch the brain good -dot hell anon
AH i am honored to receive this ask bc i have been thinking about it ofc. also tysm im glad you enjoy <33333
spencer and tommy - obv i've thought about this a TON and i think they would have multiple costumes. one kinda basic that they can just throw on and wear to parties - like cowboys. just super simple. but what they would take pictures in? some insane movie reference. like the brother and mom from hereditary.
shayne, courtney, and damien - they have The opportunity to go as ken, barbie, and allan. why would they not.
keith and noah - miles morales and peter parker. end of discussion.
angela and amanda - oh they have so many cute options. sun and moon, glinda and elphaba, mario and luigi. any of these would be fun!!
bonus: you can add chanse and/or arasha into any of these combos and make it a group costume. sun/moon/stars/clouds. glinda/elphaba/fiyero/boq. mario/luigi/bowser/peach. the golden four know no bounds.
kimmy and courtney - pspsps please y'all wanna do a daphne and velma moment so bad.... bonus shayne and damien can be fred and shaggy if you want but idc im thinking about Women
shayne and damien - finn and jake adventure time. its the perfect time to do it if you really think ab it.
jackie and shayne - yzma and kronk and im taking no questions, comments, or concerns at this time
jackie and damien - i would pay. I WOULD PAY. for baz luhrman's romeo & juliet. you know the scene. with the angel wings. i would die.
spencer and courtney - sharkboy and lavagirl. once again i am taking no questions.
noah and chanse - mermaid man and barnacle boy. im so serious. you can decide who is who.
tommy, spencer, and courtney - team rocket is meowth. either spencer or courtney is meowth and tommy in every iteration is in drag as jessie. thank you for your time.
olivia and courtney - olivia rodrigo and sabrina carpenter. she's topical!
arasha, chanse, angela - i feel like these three have real opportunities to rock trio costumes. alvin and the chipmunks, the sanderson sisters, mean girls, powerpuff girls. so many options. chanse is in drag for most of these too absolute added bonus
#anyway! i have to go to a party now so that's all we get but you get the gist#ask#asks#anon#anonymous

an idea of a joel x f!reader oneshot with the theme of starcrossed lovers
!!!!
hey love, these are my quick initial notes from the google doc so bare with 💓
Set in QZ, Boston, years ago before the start of TLOU (6-7 years post outbreak) so Joel would be 38-42 (depending on game/show idk yet)
Rival gangs à la Romeo and Juliet but like a modern version set in the Boston QZ (inspired by the modern Baz Luhrman version, I fucking love that movie so much)
Joel is a trusted associate in the one gang having ground his way up from the bottom, paired with Tess (he’s the muscle whilst she’s the brains)
f!reader/f!OC is a daughter of the head of the rival gang - absolutely strictly and severely off limits to Joel
Plot? Some plot???
Joel and Tess are instructed to crash the rival gang’s underground party in order to peddle their supply of hydros/ecstasy (I need to check and research the lore about the availability of drugs post-outbreak) and hustle in on the rival’s territory
Sees and meets f!reader/f!OC for the first time and instantly falls for her, unaware of who she is and they kiss <3
Meeting back up with Tess later on he learns she’s a daughter of the head of the rival gang - absolutely gutted but can’t stop thinking about her for days, weeks even, torturing himself
Asks Tess to trail her and give her a letter he wrote for her, asking him to meet in secret and he takes her away to a secret hideaway because he knows it’s so dangerous for them to ever be seen together in public
aaaand i’ll leave it at that for now! honestly this oneshot just might be an excuse for me to rewatch 1997’s romeo and juliet a zillion times for “““research”””

My plans for a Romeo and Juliet adaptation by me<3
The two families are crime families of the Italian mafia
It's the 1930s
They still talk in Shakespearean. Baz Luhrman that shit
The cause of the "ancient grudge" is heavily alluded to by older characters but never explained like Avengers Budapest
There's a scene after the banquet and before the balcony in which the lovers even ask peers and adults about the cause
But they all tell different versions
"They got divorced" -Mercutio
"The Montagues met our offer of alliance by stealing our money" -Nurse
"The Capulets spit in Don Montagues tea" -Benvolio
Instead of lecturing Romeo about Queen Mab, Mercutio goes on a tangent about Goncharov
Mercutio is crushing on Romeo
Tybalt is secretly a furry and only Juliet knows (guess what his fursona is. Guess)
"Do you fucking bite your thumb at us, bitch?"
When Romeo enters he's listening to West Side Story, eyeliner running down his face
Rosaline is a 30 year old woman who pities the 16 year old with a hopeless crush on her
Benvolio and Mercutio are Romeos bodyguards
Romeo is a femme tboy
Juliet is trans too
They're both pre-T and not out to their families yet.
This leads to Nurse telling Juliet Romeos deadname and not his chosen name, and vice versa with Nurse introducing Juliet to Romeo by her deadname. So for much of act 1 they don't know each other's real names
Which leads to Juliet: "wherefore art thou (deadname)? Deny thy father and refuse thy name" "tis but thy name that is my enemy". Romeo, hidden: "oh boy have I got news for her!"
Much of the balcony scene is them telling each other their chosen names, feeling seen for the first time by another
Only Tybalt knows about Juliets transition
Mercutio, Benvolio, and Romeos excursion into the party is actually Benvolios bright ide a to scam the Capulets out of their money
Until Romeo sees a pretty girl and almost blows the entire plan
In Mercutios speeches to Romeo ("be rough with love" "now art thou social" etc) he is applying Romeos lip gloss for him.
Bear with me
Everyone in the cast is dressed in dark tones in black except for the two leads in deep scarlet.
As Mercutio lays dying, he delivers the line "A plague on both your houses" as he smears his own blood on Romeos lips with his hand. As if applying lip gloss.
The friar and the prince are played by the same actor.
The "gallop apace" soliloquy is spoken alternately by both Romeo and Juliet
It is Benvolio who gives Romeo the poison
Romeo does NOT lay Paris in Juliets tomb as he requests.
After Romeo takes the poison and dies, an entire musical refrain plays, at the end of which Juliet finally awakens, and the music abruptly stops. Leaving the stage entirely silent as she screams in despair.
The families, ashamed by the tragedy, bury the lovers in modest graves. The play ends with Benvolio, alone, to deliver the final speech with two bags of money in his hand that he burns over their graves

honey by Halsey is such a perfect philas song because the motif of bees is partially a reference to Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, one of Halsey’s earlier albums, which is somewhat inspired by Romeo and Juliet and draws from the Baz Luhrman adaptation, both of which were inspirations for Chloe Gong in the writing of These Violent Delights and Phoebe and Silas parallel Roma and Juliette quite a bit in this essay I will-
