old doodle but eh here’s yoshi right after the mutation
i talk abt him negatively too much cause he isn’t father of the year by any means but i don’t intend for him to be a strictly bad father. i think splinter is really interesting and i wanted him to be more nuanced rather than just good or bad. though i do plan for him to improve and become a better father because it would make me happy :)
anyway splinter rant below
splinter (not a specific iteration im talking generally abt him) is so interesting to me cause he’s thrust into a new form with four kids and just rolls with it. espically in versions where he’s originally a human like no time to cope with your loss of humanity you’ve got to be a father of four now. but regardless he now has to care for humanoid creatures that must be hidden by society while also hiding himself. so like the odds are stacked against him, he never wanted this but to me it always seemed that he was trying his best. that doesn’t excuse his actions in iterations where he is a less than ideal father but i think it’s important context for how he acts. i really wish we got more exploration on his struggles as a father and becoming a mutant/living as a mutant in a human society. i try not to think of most of the splinters i’ve seen so far (haven’t consumed all tmnt iterations yet but i’m getting there) as either a good or bad father cause i think that does splinter a disservice to his trauma and backstory as well as his actions impacts on the turtles.
anyway i’m not good at putting my thoughts into words. i just think splinter is cool and hope for more exploration of his truama in tmnt iterations, i think we are moving in that direction based on rise and tales splinter, though i think 03 splinter is really well done too :)
