Good afternoon, elegant natural beauties. Do u guys want to read a short, incoherent stream-of-consciousness review of Every Single Perfume I’ve Sampled since May 2016? of course you do! I put a star next to the ones that are good on me. i originally wrote “next to the ones i recommend” but of course every perfume smells completely different on every person so Who Knows. i don’t wanna get blog sued for recommending you a fragrance that smells like a butt on you.

★ annick goutal ce soir ou jamais - rose! big, overblown, spicy rose. musky. amber. really good! a little too floral for me personally but it’s very like a flapper wearing a rose in her hair & i would recommend for somebody else

annick goutal grand amour - unremarkable, thin floral. also gone almost immediately?? what even was this. annick. get it together.

★ annick goutal nuit etoilee - ohhhh, yes. soothing, but not boring. something like -- blue-gray forests and -- mint tea? it's cool and delicate and sort of cozy. mint leaves and resin. herbal, graceful, understated: warm tea and a pine fire on a cold night. it’s too elegant to be homey. it’s like if your ex-wife of 20 years invited you over to dinner and everything in the house was lovely and the dogs were asleep and even the trees outside tapped their branches on the glass just as you remembered it, but over dinner you realized from the coolness of her glance and the graciousness of her manner toward you, you knew absolutely that she had moved on, and however kindly she treated you you would only ever be a guest in this house -- your ex-wife might wear this.

★ l'artisan mon numero 6 - sort of woodsy and masculine in a good way! sandalwood, hibiscus. a gamine in a bower.

annick goutal petite cherie edt - can something be both powdery and juicy? pear and soap? it's nice -- very girly and sort of demurely playful -- but even with a surprising musky note down in there, it doesn't make much of a statement.

★ atelier cedrat envirat - a greener, woodsier Orange Sanguine. in spite of the name, the cedar is much more of a basenote, a strong vibration; more noteable are the citrus tones, especially as it dries. more lemon-lime than orange. delicious and fresh and invigorating. i can wear OS at any season, but this feels very summer-specific.

balenciaga b. - fresh at first but then….weird old bread?? what? what is happening. it’s still not bad but there’s something so floury/powdery about it. in spite of that bakery/kitchen association it’s not spicy – it’s green & dry. Fine, but not a keeper.

cb i hate perfume burning leaves edt - not so impressive on me anymore. it used to feel cozy and i'd get a hint of rich woods but now that sweetness is more like....bbq sauce. like, i just smell like i wandered into your house with grill smoke in my unwashed hair. this is fine and great when it happens organically, but a lil too meaty for my taste in perfume. not great projection either.

cb i hate perfume i am a dandelion - sharp & earthy greens – what florals there are are more crushed than blooming. i’d want to layer this with something but by itself it’s too much mica/dirt on me.

cb i hate perfume wild hunt - WET EARTH. foliage and moss. ozone. that low alcoholic thing that’s very cb-typical. round dirt. fades very fast.

clean rain - cheap but good. nothing remarkable though and it fades VERY quickly to regular bar soap. you could get the same effect for a fraction of the price with that $8 cucumber melon body splash from bath & body works.

★ comme des garcons blue santal - oh HELLO good MORNING! clean, tomboyish, scented wood and juniper. a ski lodge smell -- outdoorsy, but more moneyed than natural. the perfume equivalent of super-expensive ”reclaimed wood” scandinavian furniture.

d'orsay intoxication - bluh. the two words that come to mind are “honey” and “widowhood,” tbh, which makes this sound better than it is. it's just a sort of indeterminate, dated chypre floral, with an old-lady's-bathroom musk. which is better than old-man's-bathroom musk, obviously, but i'm not into this.

★ demeter honeysuckle edt - as pure and natural on me as annick goutal’s way more expensive chevrefeuille. projection & lasting aren’t as good but SUCH a fresh, sweet, uncloying honeysuckle.

derek lam 10 crosby drunk on youth edp - your cute friend’s hair after a shower. fancy girl shampoo. then it blossoms out and gets deeper & sweeter--pure honeysuckle, but still soapy, hence the shampoo. lovely, but too $$$ for basically a nice bathroom-steam smell.

dkny be desired edp - starts w/ sweet grapefruit & violet – then that shampoo-y smell – then the shampoo gets synthetic. it’s not BAD exactly, just mad artificial with a sharper and sharper plastic line through it. although ooo, as it dies down it gets REALLY nice. not worth that early stuff but very sweet and sporty.

dolce & gabbana intense - strong & sweet. intoxicating but also marshmallowy? tuberose. kind of like a lollipop. yes. booze lollipop. i dig it but it’s too sweet to be a standby for me. although the boozy vanilla about 15 mins in is SUPER delicious.

elizabeth & james nirvana black - i’ve heard this suggested as a dupe for Black Orchid but nirvana is WAY sweeter on me. more licorice, less tobacco and the vanilla comes across much less organically. some scents kind of fold your own smell into themselves and enhance it? that’s the goal for me & this w/ my particular chemistry is like the opposite. very “mask”-y.

★ giorgio armani si edp - YUM. lychee with some sharper fizz behind. black pepper? then incense/spiced wood? super sophisticated & sexy. reviews say “vanilla” – i’m not getting that at all.

gucci flora glorious mandarin edt - a burst of tangerine, then low slightly spicy flowers. good, but not great.

★ guerlain idylle - oo. oooooo. delicious. this is described as a “floral” but i’m getting something richer – something of that amber vanilla musk that i used to get with Black Orchid. i guess i smell the rose under that. as it dries it gets sweeter but not in a bad way – fruit-sweet, like a wet raspberry.

★ imaginary authors cobra and the canary - tobacco, smoke, leather. very distinctive and really kind of nice. i think you could pair this with something femmey for a really interesting layered smell but WHO HAS THE TIME!!

★ issey miyake a scent - spring. sharp cut green flower stems. wet but guarded. crisp. lemon tree & hyacinth in the very back. like it a lot. as it wears down it becomes deeper and more floral – a wet garden. (had this on same arm w/ d&g intense & they’re like the opposite of each other. a palate refresher!)

★ juliette has a gun mmm - sooooo good! like….creamy white flowers and orange rind and cinnamon? as usual with white flowers it’s a little sweeter than the woman i picture myself to be, but true to its name it is DELICIOUS.

laura mercier nuits enchantees - VANILLA EXTRACT! so delicious but unfortunately then this weird powdery almost nutty?? note appears. almond? or wait: marzipan. ough, that must be the patchouli. yeah, no thanks.

le labo vanille 44 - so good at first! rich warm vanilla-extract vanilla. spicy. wintry. something a little like rubber or plastic – or playdoh?? – deep under it, which is the only drawback -- except that then as it dries it fades to just that rubber plastic thing. :/ this was a disappointing relationship.

miller harris la pluie - weirdly old & incongruous on me – like one of those perfume sampler packs i played dress up with as a kid. not bad, but seems to have nothing to do with my skin.

oscar de la renta something blue - PURPLE MARKER SMELL? remember those smelly markers and the purple one was really good? this is like a fancier version of that. then it goes to more complex flowers.

★ pinrose treehouse royal - this is SO FAMILIAR, why?? what is it? vitabath??? green, delicious, ginger underneath. cassis and vetiver. very clean. i’ve never tried pinrose before and i really like it!

★ pinrose campfire rebel - oh wow. oh WOW. green smoke. everything i stopped getting from burning leaves – none of that charcoal meatiness. just clean autumn air and good whiskey. i gotta get more pinrose!

★ prada luna rossa - POWERFUL dude musk. spicy herbal, amber-y. Very very masc. Feels like Jean Dujardin inviting you behind the boat house for a cigarette.

ralph lauren polo black a wealthy, slightly effete dude sauntering out of the locker room. tropical fruit and sandalwood. very clubby, but also VERY delicious – at first. unfortunately it fades FAST to Eau de Douche. like, not the vaginal hygeine product, just a douchey guy in a club. ugh.

ralph lauren romance - very femme perfume-y – the opposite of luna rossa. Flowers first – rose & lily? Feels like the dullest body splash you could get from Victoria’s Secret. Inoffensive, boring flowers.

stella mccartney sheer - fruity! a less strong l'imperatrice. juicy. sweet and soapy.

★★★ tom ford noir pour femme - ohhhh shiiiiiit yes. ohhhhh you’ve done it again thomas. musk and vanilla. warm smoke. cardamom. this perfume is a cardamum blessing. i feel so sophisticated yet sexy yet also somehow cozy and warm?? a femme fatale in an oversized sweater. oh god, it just gets better and warmer and sexier every minute. WHEN WILL I BE RICH?? @daeontherun bought me a tube of this for XMAS because she’s a SAINT and we all put it on and spent the rest of the evening deeply inhaling our own wrists. can’t recommend highly enough.

Everything that came in my box from Universe Bound. This box is PACKED with so many awesome items!

So what is all this stuff?

My box insert. This comes with a sealed outer paper which is cool. It also breaks down not only the items you receive but what was in the alternate box.

Serenity Tea Lights

The first item in my box are these pretty tea lights in the Serenity fragrance which is a blend of Japanese Cherry Blossom, Bergamot, Nag Champa and Magwa. These are nice if you are planning to read in the tub and want to have some candles’ a glowin’

Uno Dare

This was a totally unexpected item and I’m a board / card game obsessed person so this was great to receive. I hadn’t heard of this but it’s a twist on the classic where you have to complete dares as you play the game of uno! Sounds like a lot of fun, I think the kids will love it!

Jasmine Pearl Tea Company Ruby Nectar Tea

Our boxes from Universe Bound always include tea. This month it’s Ruby Nectar – a blend of Greenbush, Hibiscus, Peppercorns, Bee Pollen, Natural Cranberry flavor, Pink Grapefruit Essential Oil and Stevia. There were three bags included as well as disposable tea bags as this is a loose leaf tea. There were also these blue mylar bags with rock sugar. The insert also include brewing instructions as well iced tea instructions.

And for our convenience we received a wooden teaspoon to stir our tea!

Big Bang Coffee from Peet’s

Included in the Deluxe box only for the month is this medium roast called Big Bang from Peet’s Coffee. I personally love medium blend coffees and this one promises to be full bodied and flavorful. Again we also received some rock sugar as well as disposable steeping bag – there are instructions on the insert for how to brew coffee in a tea bag too which is kinda neat!

Candies

Every box from Universe Bound includes a wide variety of candies. This month there was candy corn, Charleston Chews, Fruity Tootsie Rolls (a favorite of mine), as well as coffee candies all in a cute burlap bag.

Shower Steamer

This must have been a box bonus as it wasn’t listed on the insert. Shower steamers are a nice way to make a shower a little more exciting – you simply put them somewhere they won’t be directly hit with water and allow the vapor and scent to wrap you up like a warm blanket!

African Black Soap

I was stoked to see that they had included a 100% natural raw African black soap from Ghana in this box. These are made with palm kernel oil, coconut oil, stearin oil, cocoa pod husk, unrefined shea butter, plantain skin ash, natural vitamin e, natural sodium and water. You can use this on your hair, face and body but you must use a washcloth as there could be small bits of plantain.

I just love the way this looks, it looks almost like marble!

Reactive Bath Dust in Purity Scent

The Reactive Bath Dust included in this box was a Deluxe only item. These are almost like a deconstructed bath bomb and are multi-colored. The scent Purity is a blend of Japanese Cherry Blossom, Geranium and Tangerine.

Popcorn on a Cob

I have to say that the most exciting item in this box is this microwaveable popcorn… on a cob. My kids are going to think this is a hoot – this item was also only in the Deluxe boxes for September.

Enemy Me by J. Carrell Jones

Our first book in the box (there are five) is Enemy Me explores what it would be like to live in a world where you can live forever. It sounds like a real page turner, especially if you love sci-fi.

Binti Home by Nnedi Okorafor

Our second book is actually a sequel and was featured in only the Deluxe box for the month. This book is also a sci-fi of the intergalactic variety. This also looks like a really amazing novel!

Part of what seems exciting for me is the element of friendship that seems to be a huge part of this series of books. I love storylines like that!

Binti by Nnedi Okorafor

Speaking of that series we also received the first Binti novel. This is a Hugo & Nebula award winning work . This was included in both boxes from Universe Bound for September.

Our synopsis.

Akata Witch from Nnedi Okorafor

The book that caught my eye the most for the month is Akata Witch also from the same writer of the Binti series. This book has been dubbed the Nigerian Harry Potter and I have actually let my daughter start reading it and she loves it! I’m excited to read it as well.

This was the only book in this box that I had heard of prior to receiving it!

Abbott by Saladin Ahmed and Jason Wordie, Sami Kivela

The final book in our box for the month is Abbott a graphic novel that was only included in the Deluxe boxes. Abbott takes place in 70’s Detroit and follows Elena Abbott as she investigates murders she believes to be done through malevolent forces that she has sworn to destroy. This one looks pretty rad!

It’s not often I receive graphic novels in book boxes which is a pleasant break from the norm.

The final item in the box and my absolute favorite is this roll up book sleeve made by Universe Bound. This is a great way to protect both your books and bookmarks. This was a Deluxe Box Exclusive.

Personally I’ll be using this when I travel!

You just roll it up and clip it together and there you go!

DIY: Natural Body Mist, Splash Recipes

NOTE: This article has multiple DIY: Natural Body Mist, Splash Recipes. To make it easier to navigate, use the Table of Contents button to your right!

Citrus Body Mist

1 cup distilled water

1 cup vodka

1/8 cup glycerin

1 tsp Vitamin E

15 drops Lemon Essential Oil

15 drops of Orange or Tangerine Essential Oil

15 drops Grapefruit Essential oil

1 drop yellow food coloring

Blend all ingredients and store in spray bottle. Use after shower to refresh. Shake before use.

Green Tea Healing Mist

At the beach or at work, get refreshed quickly and easily with this rejuvenating aromatic mist. Not only will it cool you down, but it also nourishes your skin! Combining Green Tea with these select essential oils will tone your skin, soothe and heal sunburns, and invigorate your skin after sun exposure.

4 oz Distilled Water

2 Green Tea Bags

2 drops of Rosewood Essential Oil

1 drop of Lavender Essential Oil

1 4-oz Spray Bottle (cobalt blue, amber, white — but NOT transparent)

Green Tea contains Antioxidants that combat Free Radicals, also called oxidant radicals. Free Radicals are by-products of the human body and cause damage to cells and tissues. The Antioxidants neutralize Free Radicals so they cannot cause any harm.

Free Radicals are one of the causes of many illnesses and they are one of the reasons for our aging. Green Tea contains Vitamins — particularly a large amount of Vitamin C — Minerals (fluoride, in particular), and Amino Acids.

How to Make Your Healing Mist:

Bring 4oz of distilled water to a boil.

Add the tea bags and allow them to infuse for 15 minutes.

Let the tea cool down to room temperature.

Pour the tea into your non-transparent spray bottle.

Add your essential oils to the tea, and shake very well.

Store it at the bottom of your fridge and shake well before each use.

Caribbean Beauty Splash

1 cup water

10 drops Lavender essential oil

6 drops rose essential oil

4 drops Rosemary essential oil

1 tbs Witch Hazel (optional)

Mix the ingredients together. Store in an air tight container in the refrigerator. It will last up to 10 days.

Toning Body Splash Recipe

High Proof Vodka –2 teaspoons

White Wine or Cider Vinegar –4 oz

Spring Water –2 cups

Basil –2 drops

Black Pepper –3 drops

Lemongrass –18 drops

Patchouli –3 drops

Sage –5 drops

Blend the essential oils together. Add them to the vodka and shake well. Leave them to settle for half an hour, then add the vinegar. Pour the mixture into two cups purified water and shake well. Finally, pass the liquid through a paper coffee filter. The longer you leave the essential oils in the vodka and vinegar mix before adding the water, the stronger the scent will be.

Summer Breezes Body Spray

1 tablespoon Witch Hazel

1 teaspoon Lemon essential/fragrance oil

1 teaspoon cucumber essential/fragrance oil

1 cup water

For a refreshing cool feeling, make an after shower spray by combining all the ingredients. Place in a pump spray bottle.

*Note: Don't use if you have sensitive skin, the Lemon may irritate it.

How to Make a Deodorant Body Splash

Vinegar –4 oz

Vodka –3 tsp

Grapefruit — 9 drops

Lavender — 5 drops

Lemon — 6 drops

Rosemary — 4 drops

Sage — 6 drops

Add to 2 cups purified water. Blend the oils together, add them to the vodka, and shake well. Let settle for half an hour, then add the vinegar and shake well. Pour mixture into 2 cups purified water and shake well. Finally, pass the liquid through a paper coffee filter. The longer you leave the essential oils in the vodka and vinegar mix before adding to the water, the stronger the scent will be.

Moonlight Path Body Spray

4 cups distilled water

1 cup witch hazel

1 cup aloe vera gel

1.5 tsp Moonlight Path Fragrance Oil

1/8 tsp Gold Mica

* Blue colorant

Mix together well. Pour into spray bottles.

Patchouli Body Spray Recipe

1 cup Witch Hazel

1 teaspoon Glycerin

3/4 teaspoon Vanilla oil

1/4 teaspoon Patchouli oil

Place all ingredients into a sealable glass jar. Shake the jar vigorously until all ingredients are well combined. Decant into a glass bottle with a fine mist sprayer attached.

Gentle Rain Body Mist

2 cups distilled water

3 tablespoons vodka

5 drops sandalwood essential oil

10 drops bergamot essential oil

10 drops cassis essential oil

Mix all the ingredients together in a pretty spray bottle; shake well. Allow to settle for at least 12 hours. Store in a cool, dry place.

Lavender Bath Splash Recipe

Few drops oil of lavender

3/4 cup distilled water

2 tablespoons witch hazel

1 drop oil of musk (optional)

Combine all ingredients. Pour into a decorative container. Shake often during the next few days before using. You can use whole lavender instead of the oil. Distill the whole herb in 1 cup of distilled water.

Citrus Body Splash

1 cup water

6 drops orange essential oil

6 drops bergamot essential oil

6 drops lemon essential oil

1 tbs witch hazel (optional)

Mix the ingredients together. Store in an air tight container in the refrigerator. It will last up to 10 days.

INGREDIENTS

2 bags Chamomile tea 1 c powdered milk 1/4 c cornstarch 1/4 c baking soda 10+ drops of your favorite essential oil {or to preference}

DIRECTIONS Mix dry ingredients & whisk in essential oil until smooth. Add mixture to jar & allow to “marinate” for 24 hours.

I know you see this DIY all the time but that is because it’s SOOO good.

Body scrubs make your skin look refreshed and rejuvenated by removing dead skin cells. Exfoliation also helps moisturize as it allows for the easy absorption of a skin moisturizer into your now healthy skin. Be sure to avoid applying too much pressure when using your scrub. Use a body scrub a few times a week.

Hello and welcome back, Beauties!! I hope you’re all having a great day thus far. So, I haven’t been buying makeup that frequently since I’m on this low buy, but I couldn’t resist picking up some goodies from Lush. If you’re interested in seeing what I picked up, just keep on reading.

It’s been a hot minute since I picked up some bath time treats from Lush, so when two of these items were discussed on their Instagram and Twitter pages, I knew it was the perfect time to place an order. Since my actual products are still wrapped in their packaging to maintain freshness, I’ll be using images found on Lush’s website so you can get a good look at the products. As always, I’ll have links to the products so you can pick them up if something interests you.

Alright, enough chit chat, let’s get into it!

My Lush order took exactly seven days from date of order to arrive at my house, which isn’t bad at all. Lush’s website tells you it takes 5-12 days, so I expected to wait a minute before it showed up. The box came well packaged and nothing arrived broken.

Instead of getting my usual and favorite product, The Comforter Bubble Bar, I ventured out and picked up all items I’ve never tried before. I’m a huge fan of Lush, so I know everything is gonna be awesome. Let’s take a look at each item I got real quick.

Since we’re on the subject of bubble bars, these are the two I picked up: Brightside, $12.95, and Creamy Candy, $7.95. Brightside is made with Sicilian mandarin, tangerine and bergamot oils. Creamy Candy is much more sweet smelling and made with cocoa butter. I typically go for scents like Creamy Candy, that vanilla cupcake kind of thing, so Brightside’s sunny citrus vibes will be a change of pace for me. The thing I love most about the Lush Bubble Bars is that you can break them up and get multiple uses out of them. If you’re new to Lush, these are definitely a product I recommend trying.

The Butterball Bath Bomb, $4.95, is a product I’ve gone back and forth about purchasing for a while and finally pulled the trigger on. It’s a vanilla musk scented bath bomb, so scent wise it’s right up my alley. Vanilla is definitely my favorite scent for bath products. This also has cocoa butter in it, so you won’t be super dry after your bath.

I’ve heard such great things about Lush’s bar soaps, so I wanted to give them a go as well. So, I purchased Rockstar, $7.95, and got a free sample in my package of Bohemian, $7.95. Rockstar is vanilla-scented (no surprise there if you’re seeing a trend lol), while Bohemian has a lemony fragrance.

For bath oils and melts, I picked up the Magnificent Bath Oil, $5.95, and the product that inspired my entire purchase, the Inner Truth Bath Melt, $5.95. Magnificent is another citrusy product made with tangerine, grapefruit, jojoba oil and organic cocoa and shea butters. Inner Truth goes back to my vanilla, cocoa butter scented vibes. That’s not why I purchased it though. I bought Inner Truth because 100% of the proceeds from this item are donated to the National Center for Transgender Equality, the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity and other organizations working to advance and secure transgender rights. This item is currently out of stock on Lush’s website, but I definitely plan on repurchasing it once it’s available again.

The last product I picked up is the Charity Pot Body Lotion in the 1.7oz size, $7.95. I’ve used this a few times and omg it makes your hands SUPER soft! It’s lightly scented with ylang ylang and rosewood oils in a hydrating cocoa butter base. Another charitable product, 100% of the price (minus the taxes) is donated to small grassroots organizations working in the areas of environmental conservation, animal welfare and human rights. You can’t go wrong picking this up. I’m glad I got the smaller size so that I can throw it in my purse and use it on the go.
