A/B/O
I'll Probably Survive This by saintsavage [words: 2,448]
Hannibal is introduced to medical oddity Will Graham - the empathetic omega who is grouchy, rude, and smells like blood.
A Cliff And The Wine Dark Sea by saintsavage [words: 69,483]
After the Dragon, Will wakes up as a ten year old in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Ship of Dreams by stratumgermanitivum, whiskeyandspite [words: 20,134]
The Titanic AU that everyone has been waiting for.
Caged by perpetuallycaffeinated [words: 2,982]
Will's in heat, on the other side of a cage in Dr. Chilton's hospital. What's a poor Hannibal to do? (And what exactly is Will playing at?)
Appetence by stratumgermanitivum and whiskeyandspite [words: 10,142]
“Do you need anything from your room you can’t do without?” He asked, and Will blinked sleepily at him, confused. Hannibal moved his hand to the nape of Will’s neck and he whined. “Poor thing, let me help you.”
Of Blushing Omegas and Mischievous Eyes by katiemorag [words: 4,998]
It was a point of contention among many of Baltimore’s elite that Dr Hannibal Lecter had failed to take any sort of interest in any of their offspring. The invitation to ball at Lecter's residence ignites Baltimore's gossip mill, the rumor is that Hannibal will be searching for a bride there. No-one expects to meet Hannibal's mate of 8 years there.
The First of His Kind by HigherMagic [words: 79,942]
"Jack tells me you attacked one of the first responders," Hannibal says. Will growls, and Hannibal watches as one corner of his mouth twitches upwards. "You tried to rip his throat out." Will makes another low sound. This time, he's definitely smiling, in the same way a wolf does right before it lunges. Hannibal smiles back.
Look, Mother! The Sheep Have Devoured the Wolves! by HigherMagic [words: 102,934]
Hannibal and Bedelia are married, but unable to have children. At Margot's insistence, Hannibal agrees to meet the Omega that was a surrogate for her and Alana. Will is rough-edged, unrefined, and everything Hannibal shouldn't desire. This arrangement promises to be clean, and simple. Of course, nothing concerning Will Graham is ever simple.
Kvapas (Scent) by the_heart_and_the_brain [words: 3,707]
Hannibal contemplates the scent that is Special Agent Will Graham
Kovoti (Combat) by the_heart_and_the_brain [words: 3,461]
Alphas Tobias and Hannibal fight over the right to claim Will...
Ever Been Surprised? by stratumgermanitivum and whiskeyandspite [words: 5,805]
Season 1 if Will and Hannibal were a bonded ABO pair from the beginning.
Incalescent by stratumgermanitivum and whiskeyandspite [words: 13,777]
“Will it ease your worries if I admit my own apprehension?” Hannibal asked. Will tilted his head back a little further to properly see him. “Not in regards to you… perhaps in regards to myself. Considering I am the common denominator in previously failed courting, it must be me and no one else at fault.” Will's dating life hasn't gone so well. It's not that he's a bad Alpha; he's doting and caring and protective. It's just that he's not... dominant.
Burn Through the Night by bymoonlight [words 9,552]
Hannibal, a leader of a fierce, nomadic pack, comes across a rare gem during one of his raids – a male omega.
A Corner of Paradise by bymoonlight [words: 3,242]
Will loves his alpha, cannibalism and all. (Essentially, domestic Hannigram bliss)
To Build Thy Kingdom, and Tear Me Down by cloudsarefluffy [words: 10,718]
Hannibal tilts his head, and a deep scowl begins to furrow his features, “Will, where are you going?” There is a soft smile gracing Will’s lips as he speaks, and he opens the door just as gently, “I am taking my permanent leave now that my services to you are no longer required.”
Best Laid Plans by nothing_left_sacred [words: 47,432]
Will is fairly certain he knows the identity of the Chesapeake Ripper. He's fairly certain he's known for months now. Too bad it's probably his True Mate.
Avarice by BelladonnaWyck, YouAreMyDesign [words: 23,806]
"You're mine," Hannibal hissed, and Will nodded. He was, he was, always, forever. He'd been Hannibal's the moment the Alpha had cornered him in the bathroom at the club, already knowing his name.
Then Love Until We Bleed by SordidDetailsFollowing [words: 5,181]
Hannibal Lecter had never desired an omega of his own. It was unexpected, then, to find himself stumbling upon one during an outing as the Chesapeake Ripper. It should have been a simple thing to cover his tracks and dispose of the creature, but it all became much more complicated the moment piercing blue eyes meet his.
Help Mommy by Kellyjelly [words: 19,825]
Will was a single Omega, a survivor, a victim, a beauty, and every Alpha wanted Will. The best thing about Will was that he was Hannibal’s mother and Hannibal would give anything to fuck his mom.
Primed For Sin by Kellyjelly [words: 5,785]
Hannibal never imagined that the love of his life would be his son, William Graham Lecter. And he certainly didn’t imagine that his son Will would be the creation of his own demons.
I'll Will My Wild Eyes Bright by HigherMagic [words: 24,398] ]
"You would do well to remember that people like you are best seen and not heard," Mason says sharply. "Our new friend is far less forgiving than I am, if the rumors are even half true." Will nods, and resists the urge to pet over his face and wipe Mason's scent away. "I want you to kill him, Will. Whatever it takes. Will you do it?" "Of course, Your Majesty," Will replies, nodding. "I am your humble servant."
Alter by luvkurai [words: 25,230] [words: 25,230]
God, as is somewhat characteristic of such a vast and preoccupied being, has made a mistake in the classing of Will Graham. Will should have been born an omega—Hannibal’s perfect mate. Where god has failed, Hannibal will correct the error and perfect him.
The Feast of Scandal by hedonistconstant, what_about_the_fish [words: 3,684]
Will's father comes up in some debt and has to let his omega son live with his Uncle Hannibal. Or is there more too it?
The Loss of Innocence by MaddieContrary [words: 4,589]
Hannibal had known, long ago when the first insidious thought planted itself inside his brain, that the only way to drive the suitors away would be to take away Will’s purest virtue as an omega, ruining him for other men and women.
Brighter by YouAreMyDesign [words: 16,373]
A sharpness comes to his teeth, a heat behind his eyes; outrage. He had never had to consider it before, but yes, when Will grows up, he'll leave to start a family of his own. Hannibal likes to think of all future possibilities, the consequences of every word and action, and it's an unsettling realization, to think Will wouldn't be there in any of them.

The Latest: France sees drop in COVID-19 hospitalizations | National News
PARIS — The number of coronavirus patients hospitalized in France dropped this weekend for this first time since September, after two weeks of new nationwide lockdown measures aimed at slowing surging infections and easing hospital strains.
The number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care also fell for the first time in six weeks, according to figures released Saturday night, though virus patients still occupy 96% of France’s standard ICU beds.
The number of weekly infections per 100,000 people in France has now been falling for 14 straight days, and some doctors say they’re starting to see signs of relief in over-stretched ICUs.
But it remains too early to say whether the one-day drop in hospital numbers means France has hit the peak in this second surge of the pandemic.
France has reported more virus infections than any European country and has had 44,246 virus-related deaths. The government imposed a nationwide partial lockdown starting Oct. 30 as the second surge hit and could start easing the measures Dec. 1 if the number of virus patients in hospitals shows consistent decline.

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE VIRUS OUTBREAK:
— Second round of lockdowns brings misery for Europe’s Michelin-rated chefs
— President-elect Joe Biden faces tough choice of whether to back virus lockdowns
— Mexico reaches 1 million virus cases, nears 100,000 deaths
— French doctors use their experience t o improve treatments for COVID-19 patients
— San Diego restaurants, gyms sue for right to operate indoors despite pandemic

HERE’S WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING:
COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — Authorities in Sri Lanka say about 400 inmates from the country’s highly-congested prisons have tested positive for COVID-19 as infected cases are surging in the capital and its suburbs.
Twelve of the 400 are prison officers while the rest are inmates. The cases are detected from five prisons in different parts of the country.
Sri Lankan prisons are highly congested with more than 26,000 inmates crowded in facilities designed to hold about 10,000.
Sri Lanka has seen a fresh outbreak of the disease since last month when two clusters — one centered on a garment factory and other on the fish market — emerged in Colombo and its suburbs. Confirmed cases from just those two clusters have grown by Sunday to 13,079 people.
Sri Lanka’s total number of positive cases reached 16,582 on Sunday with 53 fatalities.

ANTWERP, Belgium — Many a three-star Michelin meal has been put into a takeout box and sent out on Deliveroo scooters, as renowned chefs in Belgium and elsewhere try to scrape through a second pandemic lockdown that is likely to threaten even the lucrative Christmas season.
Sergio Herman, who has run three-star, two-star and many other establishments that have wowed the Michelin powers and the most refined palates around the world, doesn’t really see any positives to come out of working amid the pandemic.
“Sometimes you feel that whatever you built up over the years is slipping like sand through your fingers. It gives you this kind of fear,” he told The Associated Press.
Across much of Europe, exclusive restaurants have lost the precious appeal of the luxury dining experience — from eating several inventive courses, to basking in sommelier tastings, to savoring the after-dinner sweet and having that little extra chat with the chef.
“All that cannot just be replaced by a box and a plastic tray. That is just impossible,” Herman said amid the whirl of his new restaurant, Le Pristine, in the Belgian port of Antwerp.

NEW DELHI — India has reported 41,100 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the country’s overall tally since the pandemic began to 8.79 million.
The Health Ministry on Sunday also reported 447 deaths in the same period, driving total fatalities to 129,635.
India is second in the world in total reported cases behind the U.S., but daily infections have been on the decline since the middle of September. There has been, however, a resurgence of infections in New Delhi, which has seen a renewed surge in recent weeks, recording more new cases than any other Indian state.
On Sunday, New Delhi registered 7,340 new coronavirus cases, including 96 deaths.

SEATTLE — Washington Gov. Jay Inslee has scheduled a news conference for Sunday morning as COVID-19 case numbers soar throughout the Pacific Northwest where he will reportedly detail new restrictions.
Inslee’s office said he would discuss actions to combat the crisis but offered no details. The Seattle Times reports that among Inslee’s announcements will be a ban on indoor service at restaurants and bars and significantly reduced capacity at grocery stores and retail shops.
The newspaper cited industry officials briefed by Inslee’s staff. The Democratic governor will also prohibit all indoor social gatherings. And Inslee will reportedly limit grocery stores and retailers to 25% occupancy.
———
HARTFORD, Conn. — Connecticut’s two U.S. senators were self-isolating Saturday after a member of Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont’s staff tested positive for COVID-19.
Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy each tweeted Saturday that they had not had close contact with the staffer but were taking the step out of an abundance of caution.
Lamont’s chief spokesperson, Max Reiss, identified himself as the senior staff member who had tested positive in a release posted to Twitter on Friday. Reiss wrote he wasn’t sure how or where he had contracted the virus.
Murphy tweeted Saturday that he had “attended an event yesterday with the Governor but was not in close contact with the staff member who tested positive. Out of an abundance of caution, though, I am isolating until I get tested and consult with the Office of Attending Physician Monday morning.”
Blumenthal tweeted Saturday afternoon that he had “just returned from being tested myself and am currently self-isolating.”
———
CARSON CITY, Nev. — Nevada has reported a record number of new confirmed cases of the coronavirus for the second day in a row amid warnings from Gov. Steve Sisolak that the state is at a “critical juncture.”
Sisolak implored residents to stay home and do what they can to protect themselves a day after he announced he had tested positive for COVID-19. Sisolak told reporters on Friday that he wasn’t feeling any symptoms and would enter a quarantine.
Nevada reported 2,269 new cases and 15 additional deaths on Saturday, topping the record of 1,857 new cases set Friday.
Sisolak warned Nevadans earlier in the week that if the state fails to slow the spread of the virus within two weeks, he will be forced to reimplement stricter measures.

NEW YORK — Students, parents and teachers are continuing to anxiously watch New York City’s coronavirus test results. The latest figures Saturday fell under the city’s threshold for shutting down school buildings, but the mayor warned that the city was at a “crucial” point in fighting the virus’ resurgence.
Mayor Bill de Blasio cautioned parents and teachers Friday to plan for a potential school shutdown as soon as Monday, saying the city could cross its deciding line — 3% of coronavirus tests citywide coming back positive over a seven-day period — over the weekend.
The rate stayed short of that on Saturday, at 2.47%, he said.
“But that could change,” the Democratic mayor tweeted, warning that the city was facing “a critical weekend” in combating the pandemic.
New York City has the United States’ largest public school system, with more than 1 million students. It became one of few big cities to reopen classrooms this fall after the pandemic forced schools online in the spring, though families had the option of continuing all-remote learning this fall.
About 280,000 students have attended in person, far fewer than the city originally expected.
———
ATHENS, Greece — Deaths from the coronavirus have topped 1,000 in Greece, and authorities say that over half occurred since Oct. 18.
The Greek government has decided to shut down elementary schools, kindergartens and day care centers for two weeks starting Monday. Children will be schooled at home, as is already happening with high school and university students.
Authorities have stepped up enforcement of a 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. curfew, including by making arrests.
Two foreign exchange students who hosted an after-hours party at their apartment in the northern city of Thessaloniki were arrested Friday and fined 3,000 euros ($3,550) each on the spot. The 24-year-old Palestinian man and 21-year-old woman from France received also suspended prison sentences of 2 years and two months on Saturday.
Their 15 party guests, all university students from western Europe, were fined 300 euros ($355) each but not arrested.
———
BALTIMORE — The number of people testing positive for the coronavirus has soared to a new daily high in the United States.
Data from Johns Hopkins University indicates the number of confirmed cases reached 184,514 on Friday, as the number of people infected continues to surge.
The Johns Hopkins data shows the seven-day rolling average for virus-related deaths reported daily in the U.S. rose over the past two weeks from about 828 on Oct. 30 to 1,047 on Friday, an increase of about 26%
The seven-day rolling positivity rate also rose over the past two weeks from 6.4 to 9.6, an increase of about 50%, even as the number of tests performed has grown.

Diners, Drive ins, and Tope Suicidas
WRITTEN WITH JESS, KNOX, AND MIA
The Silver Moon diner was a different animal in the daytime. Free of neon lights, it was just a block of reflective chrome and baby blue. The sunlight would be glimmering from its surface, had it not been blotted out by the gray Baltimore skies. The parking lot itself was empty, save for a rather conspicuous black 1972 Jaguar XJ12 with California plates. Inside the place was empty. Behind the counter an older gentleman was counting a stack of bills for what would have been the dozenth time. The large man had come in and paid a full day’s worth of sales for him to close up, except for a short guest list during the lunch rush. And he meant pre-pandemic sales. At a booth, Matthew Knox sat with his eyes half closed, contemplative and quiet. In front of him, a glass of iced tea and a half devoured reuben sandwich. Mia had never been one for fancy cars. In fact, if she had always had a knack for picking out old Subaru station wagons and making them her own. Her current incarnation, a midnight blue, four door, comes to a stop in one of the corners of the diner’s parking lot. She eyed the Jaguar curiously, but disregarded it, it wasn’t anything that she wanted to contend with. The fancier the car, the more that could go wrong with it. She stays seated, puffing on her e-cig and blowing the air out, watching it disperse within the confines of her car. She felt her heart beating through her chest, it wasn’t everyday that you met people to try and befriend, half of which didn’t have the best of pasts with. Getting out Mia takes another hit, pacing for several seconds before exhaling. Marching to the front of the building, Mia glances sidelong through the glass and only sees Matt Knox waiting patiently by himself. Breathing a sigh of relief that she didn’t have to go in and be on her heels already, Mia takes one last deep breath off her e-cig and savors it before exhaling and entering the building after putting her mask on. Upon entering, Mia is met with the smells and sounds associated with a small hole in the wall diner. The sights, sounds, and smells that always carries the promise of amazing home cooked food and amazing pie to follow. Nostalgia takes hold of Mia briefly but she shakes it away with a shudder. Now wasn’t the time to go down those particular rabbit holes. Walking silently up to Knox’s table, she slides quietly opposite him, taking the same paper bag out and putting it on the table next to the window. Eyeing Knox, she nods in greeting before saying, “Was going to apologize for running late, but it looks like I’m right on time.” Matthew responds with a small smile, and nod. He rubs his face, which upon closer inspection shows all the telltale signs of having not slept. His right arm is in a cast which has been heavily doodled upon, and his hair is pulled back in a loose ponytail. “They’ll get here soon, i’m sure of it. Unless Adrienne has tripped and fallen down a manhole somewhere.” He pays his own joke a small chuckle, and Mia smiles slightly, awkwardly. She realizes in that moment that up until now, she had never really reached out to get to know people outside of The Forsaken. What exactly was she doing? She blinks at Knox, unsure how to proceed but then realizes the effects of her THC pen were starting to take hold and her stomach grumbles unhappily. Oh yeah, it had been a little bit before she ate. “So… What’s good here?” “The Key Lime pie is like a sexual experience. Everything else is wonderfully greasy, and unhealthy. I’d go with whatever your trainer told you never to eat again.” He smiles friendlily at this, leaning back into the booth and taking a drink of his iced tea, “I’d like to come here after smoking a bit of California green, but then I'd never fit back into my ring pants.” Hearing the mention of the green stuff, Mia relaxes a bit. Former smoker or not, it has been Mia’s experience that anyone who smoked pot was a person that could be trusted. Looking over at a nearby menu, Mia orders some hash browns, covered in cheese, onion, and ham, with a grilled cheese with dill pickles on it. A vanilla shake with a glass of water completes the order, but her eye never leaves the case filled with various pies. Presently, a sleek, jet black Dodge Challenger pulled into the Silver Moon’s parking lot. It was pristine, the sun glinting off the curves. It also had a small green sticker with a stylized white ‘E’ affixed to the back. The bell on the door rang as Mitch Heart strode in, shooting off a text as he walked before flopping unceremoniously into the booth. “Hey, Knox. Hey, A--” His gaze shot up, eyeing the unfamiliar- to him, anyway- woman across the table, his head swivelling to the older man with a raised brow. His body seemed to tense somewhat, losing the relaxed demeanor it had before. “...Knox? Thought it was just gonna be you, me, and Ade.” Obviously this was the Mitch Heart Knox had been talking about. Mia looks him up and down while taking a drink, setting down her glass and washing it down with a swig from her milkshake. She smiles politely after wiping her mouth off and stands, offering her hand to Mitch in the process. “The name is Mia. I uhm… Come in peace?” “She’s good people, Mitch. Comes in peace, bearing gifts,” He waves a hand “I wouldn’t have brought her here if I thought it was shady. Had to be semi secretive because..well. Ade DDT’d her last time they saw each other. But after she says her piece, it’ll just be the three of us. Swear.” Mia takes her seat again and pulls her shake close to her, taking another swig and savoring the sweetness. “Speaking of… Where’s the last member of this wonderful party of ours?” A hooded figure on a beat up 10 speed cruised by slowly. That person had taken a few moments trying to secure a chain around the frame and a nearby light pole. That person was Adrienne. She stuck out like a sore thumb with knock off Jackie O’s, hoodie, and leggings. Entering the diner, she had seemed to come right into some tense standoff with the expected company and someone she had only met in a tense and physical encounter a few months back. Keeping her hands in her hoodie pockets, Adrienne stepped towards the occupied table. “Hello?” “Hey.” Mitch looked relieved to be in mostly familiar company, and yet, despite that and Knox’s vouching, he still seemed on edge, his hands gripping the sleeves of his red and white Anthony Mantha jersey, occasionally picking up his phone and checking it before putting it back down again. “So… what’s going on?” Taking a sip of his iced tea, Matt motioned with his hand before speaking “Mia, I believe this is your cue. And Hi Ade. Nice hoodie!” he remarks, before settling in. He felt like he’d need to smooth this over after, but hopefully Mia would make his job a little easier. Adrienne took a seat next across from Mia and Mitch. She took off her shades as it would have been rude to have them with company. “Right. So…” Mia puts her the shake she was working on down. “Don’t know how closely anyone has paid attention, but several weeks ago, our kind and benevolent DICKtator, C$J put a bounty on my head; or Amelia’s to be precise.” She pauses and shifts her weight, uncomfortable with all eyes on her but soldiers forward, “So when I took hold of my own contract from C$J, I also went back and claimed the bounty on myself.” She pushes the paper bag into the middle of the table and waits dramatically, working on her shake as she does so and finally finishing it up. “Ten thousand dollars right there gentlemen and lady. C$J gave me quite the contract and I’m sure he’s regretting that decision now. I don’t need the money and I want to make sure at least a little bit goes to the people on the roster that actually DESERVE to have good things happen to them every once in a while.” She shrugs, “So I went to Knox since I’ve only met him and asked him about who deserves this kind of payday. Lo and behold the two of you were the names he said without hesitation. So, I’m here to gift you both with the contents of that very bag.” She sits back and casts another glance at the pie case, wondering exactly what kinds there were, but decides to wait until after her food shows up. She eyes Mitch; deciding to get it in a “to go” container seems to be the best bet. Adrienne broke the silence. While that last encounter had been violent, a lot of things had happened recently. And maybe it would be worth just hearing her out. “...a bounty? Like to hurt you?” Mia’s eyes snap back to the woman in front of her and shrugs her shoulders. “Yeah, I guess. ‘Take me out’ as it were. It’s not the first time something like this has happened and probably won’t be the last. But…?” She raises her arms and smiles at the trio, “Each of them have failed and I am still alive and healthy in front of you.” “...I don’t want any of it.” Mitch’s words were practically a mumble, his gaze flicking from the tabletop to the bag of cash and back. Part of him did. Part of him really did. But he could practically see the strings attached. Nobody gives away that kind of scratch for free, least his logic said so. “I can take care of myself. Thanks.” “Maybe Mitch means,” Adrienne interjected, “Is someone going to be looking for this? I haven’t really met this guy but he’s out there putting bounties on his own employees and it's rumored that the Stan guy who was stalking me was hired just for those sort of purposes.” Mia’s face turns sour at the mention of Stan’s name, “Inspector Stan is no mas. Turns out he wasn’t cut out for in ring work and hasn’t been seen since he was in the ring with Amelia and that other chick whose name escapes me.” Mia thinks on it for a second and shrugs, “Don’t really care at the moment. In terms of people looking for that bag of money? You have nothing to worry about. In the state of Maryland, permission is required to place a bounty on anyone, let alone a current employee. C$J had no such thing and was all talk. I’m sure the punishment for doing such a thing, ESPECIALLY had anything happen to me, would be steep and all it took was a little prodding with that info for him to drop the bounty and give me the money. What happens to it from here? Not his concern.” Matthew, through all this has remained silent and taken to rolling a cigarette between his thumb and forefinger, listening intently. He does eventually speak, not long after Mia finishes, “Okay, but Christopher isn’t an idiot. Much as he plays one on TV. He probably didn’t give a shit about legality before, and now? I imagine he just wants to hurt people,” Matt adjusts in his seat, a frown taking over his features “The money, you two take it if you want it but Mia if anyone asks either you say you kept it, burned it, or hell. You gave it to me.” He shakes his head, disgusted, “Sorry Mitch, Ade. Didn’t know there was this much attached to it.” Adrienne considered all of this. Every time she tried to drop a line about her contract situation, it was summarily ignored. Maybe she wasn’t being aggressive enough. Despite being in a fortunate situation, her wallet still was coughing mothballs. Her fingers apprehensively touched the bag. “Mia. I’m thankful that you considered us. I can’t understand what you’re going through with this but perhaps Mitch and I will talk about this privately. It’s a big decision.” She paused, looking at Mia directly. Adrienne didn’t have the best knowledge of what had been going on. However what she saw was a conscious effort to reach out. To just have someone to talk to possibly. “In the meantime, don’t be a stranger.” Mia nods and stands to leave. “Just… I didn’t come here to get anyone in trouble, I didn’t come here to set anyone up for a downfall. I’m not walking out of here with that bag. For all I care, you can leave it there, you can toss it to the next panhandler you see, hell you can even leave it for the next lucky patron. I promise each of you…” She looks at each one, her gaze lingering on Adrienne perhaps a second longer, “I wasn’t lying when I said that I come in peace.” She winks and proceeds to head up the the register, cashing out for her food and ordering a slice of the peanut butter pie to go. Matthew watches Mia depart, before turning his attention to Ade and Mitch “Sorry I sprung that on you two. Didn’t know if you’d have heard her out otherwise.” he explains, shifting in his seat. “Would’ve been nice to know. But it’s cool.” He exhales, the iron curtain around him seeming to lift, his posture relaxing as he flags down a waitress for some coconut cake and coffee. “Sorry about the phone, and me being late, I was just getting set up at the hotel, making sure Pen’s settling in okay. Kid’s having a ball, you’d think we were at Disneyland. Gotta bring her back some of that sugar-free cherry pie though.” Sighing, he poked at the bag of cash. “So yeah. I guess we have to think of something to do with this fu-- this thing.” "Well, you got options. None of which is her taking it back, though," he sighs, rubbing the bridge of his nose "How are you two holding up, anyway? Feel like it's been ages." “Okay. Like I said, you shoulda seen Pen on the way here. Had her cute lil’ nose pressed to the window the whole time, even the real boring parts. She can’t wait to meet all of you- ‘specially you, Ade- but I thought it’d be best she just rest up after all that excitement.” Mitch chuckled fondly in spite of himself, thanking the waitress for the cake and coffee before setting to filling the mug the rest of the way with cream. Adrienne smiled at that. She had exchanged a few brief calls with Mitch’s little sister. The first was her thanking Ade for the signed chair. Others were just brief small talk. Adrienne would listen, answer her questions, tell her a little bit about herself and they’d be right as rain. Looking to Matt, she replied honestly, “I haven’t slept well recently but maybe it's just nerves. I talked to Axton recently. I don’t expect you two to understand but,” she paused, twirling a lock of her hair around her finger, “things will be okay eventually.” "I try not to think of Gunn. But your optimism is refreshing" his gaze shifts to Mitch, "She ever traveled this far? Even that boring shit was new awesome to us, the first few times at least." “No, never.” Mitch shook his head, plucking the vibrant red cherry off the top of his cake with two fingers and popping it into his mouth. “Never really had the means to take much of a vacation. Did scrape together enough to take her to Michigan’s Adventure once. She rode every ride she wasn’t too short for and couldn’t have been happier if she’d been a millionaire’s kid.” He seemed happy, speaking this way. As if merely mentioning happy memories with his kid sister briefly was enough to cut through dozens of hardened layers of cynicism and strife. It seemed to slide back into place as he changed subjects, though. “Anyway. I try not to think of Axton a ton either, but if he was cool to you? Maybe there’s hope for the kid yet. Or maybe you’re just good at bringing out people’s chill. It’s a nice quality to have.” “I’m personally going to be putting my confidence in the latter,” Matt spoke with the bluntness that either endeared him, or made him one of the more infuriating people on the roster “But, on to happier stuff. Not as happy as Pen and her world travels, I confess,” he paused, paying Mitch a smile. Knox enjoyed seeing The Broken so...together? Talking about his kid sister was like a whole new person. Made him almost as bubbly as Ade could be, “Divorce should be final, and after a lot...a lot of liquidation, and dealing with lawyers and bankers and people who make C$J look like the paragon of virtue and ethics...I am officially homeless, and looking to move to Baltimore, as keeping with the trend Ade has set.” “To be fair, I sort of ran away.” Adrienne knew how ridiculous that sounded but she wasn’t too sure how to put it. “It was the only way.” She cleared her throat before continuing, “But, this is good, right? Closure?” “Yeah. And, lets face it. If I haven’t tanned by now, it’s never gonna happen. No, I think the drear suits me much better.” He said thoughtfully, staring out the window and not-so-subtly dodging the deeper question posed, “Come on, lets eat up. If neither of you two take that, we’ll call it a tip.” Adrienne eyed the bag. Then Mitch. Then back to the bag. “Some of it could help, Mitch.” Mitch gave a glance to his left, then his right. Out the window. Mia was long gone. The bag was just sitting there. Nobody was offering it directly now. She wouldn’t know. As surreptitiously as possible, Mitch snagged a few stacks of bills from the back, jamming them in his hoodie pocket, going back to cake and conversation as if nothing had happened. Matthew took a beat to watch Ade and Mitch talk, a smile creeping onto his face as he lifts the reuben to take a bite. Yeah.. This was home.

6 winners from Week 11 of the NFL season
Photo by Rey Del Rio/Getty Images
Michael Gallup paid tribute to his brother, and Maxx Crosby put on his Khalil Mack pants.
Week 11 started with a defensive player of the year candidate clubbing a rival with his own helmet. Sunday was always going to be a bit anticlimactic after that.
A showdown between the Texans and Ravens turned into a blowout that only reminded the world Baltimore can nuke your defense a hundred different ways. Kyle Allen reverted back to backup form in a four-interception day. The most entertaining touchdown of the day didn’t count.
That didn’t mean there weren’t still plenty of reasons to remember Week 11’s biggest winners. Kirk Cousins looked like a third-stringer for two quarters, then one of the league’s top passers for his last two. Lamar Jackson got Deshaun Watson’s MVP vote. The Colts got Jacoby Brissett back from injury and broke their Brissett-less losing streak. Tom Brady found a new enormous coat!
Of course, this week’s winners went beyond the final scores. Who made the list of champions despite a relatively quiet day?
It wasn’t ...
Not considered: the Buccaneers, fiercely committed to finding creative ways to turn the ball over
Jameis Winston came into Week 11 with a league-leading 14 interceptions. It took him less than one quarter to get to No. 15 — though this one was not his fault:
Demario Davis with an off-the-back INT @demario__davis pic.twitter.com/4Jp1cyIBN7
— The Checkdown (@thecheckdown) November 17, 2019
O.J. Howard gift-wrapped an interception for Saints linebacker Demario Davis, and then was stapled to the bench for the remainder of the game — that was the tight end’s only target. That also meant Howard couldn’t be responsible for interception No. 16, which pinballed off Kiko Alonso‘s chest and into Vonn Bell’s hands.
You love to see selfless Kiko letting @Vonn have this one #Saints #Saints #Saints pic.twitter.com/deJYt6MAtc
— New Orleans Saints (@Saints) November 17, 2019
And that wasn’t all! Winston added a pick-six and an interception in the end zone to cap his day and even had a botched snap he was able to recover deep in the New Orleans red zone. He’s now responsible for 18 interceptions and 11 fumbles in 2019, and it appears even pairing up with QB whisperer head coach Bruce Arians won’t be enough to rehabilitate a career marred by careless play and sloppy turnovers.
Now on to ...
Week 11’s actual winners
6. The Jets, who are 3-1 against the NFC East ...
... and 0-6 against everyone else.
It turns out the best way to keep Sam Darnold from seeing ghosts is to throw him in there against the worst teams the NFC has to offer. Last week he outshined the Giants with 255 total yards and two touchdowns (one rushing, one passing). On Sunday, he shredded the Washington defense for four touchdowns and 293 passing yards in a 34-17 win.
Darnold wasn’t the only player to perform some important resume building in against the East’s least successful team. Jamal Adams had three sacks on the season coming into Week 11, which makes sense since he’s a safety and not a defensive end. He doubled that season total vs. Washington, because for the first three quarters rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins was a lost fawn trying to to cross a frozen pond.
When will they stop trying to block him with RBs?@TheAdamsEra | #TakeFlight pic.twitter.com/HRSYZLOx0J
— New York Jets (@nyjets) November 17, 2019
Haskins eventually finished his day with a pair of garbage-time touchdown passes to salvage his second start as a pro. With any luck, his front office can trade its impending No. 2 overall pick for a handful of assets who can help him reach his potential as a professional quarterback and give him the cast needs.
Or, in a much more likely development: Washington will squander the pick, use its cap space on veterans who won’t contribute, and eventually alienate an injured Haskins until he leaves in free agency four years from now or is released with an injury settlement before then.
For now, Washington is stuck as the fifth-best team in the NFC East, if you want to include the mighty Jets.
5. Jason Sanders, hands team member
Two players have recovered onside kicks in 2019. One was Cordarrelle Patterson, a dynamite returner who moonlights as a wide receiver and understands the ins and outs of how a kickoff bounces better than anyone. The other is a kicker who’d never officially possessed a ball in his year-plus in the NFL until Sunday.
.@jasonsanderss decided to do it all by himself ♂️#BUFvsMIA #FinsUp pic.twitter.com/J7UuOhyVRk
— Miami Dolphins (@MiamiDolphins) November 17, 2019
NFL teams were 1 for 29 before Sanders broke out the sneaky Pete onside kick in the second quarter against Buffalo. Unfortunately for Sanders, and in true 2019 Dolphins fashion, Miami fumbled away possession on the very next play.
That led to a Bills touchdown, and eventually, Miami having its two-game winning streak snapped. It also marks the first time the Dolphins have lost since acquiring secret weapon Aqib Talib (who won’t play a single snap for the club this season).
4. The Falcons, who were one point better than a week of insufferable jokes
Atlanta has nothing to play for after a 1-7 start, except a chance to save head coach Dan Quinn’s job. If the last two weeks are any indication, the Falcons don’t want the man who led them to an NFC title in 2016 to go.
Atlanta won:
its second straight game
against a NFC South rival
on the road
by double digits
Four wildly unlikely things that came together for one unexpected streak (if we’re being generous) after a bleak start. Last week, the Falcons cracked open the Saints and spilled them all over the Superdome. In Week 11, they would up dispatching the Panthers — and got a perfect 2-for-2 performance on extra points from kicker Younghoe Koo to keep the game from becoming a meme.
That made the final score 29-3, one day after Baylor put together a stunning throwback to Super Bowl 51 by blowing a 28-3 lead against Oklahoma — a loss the Falcons social media team was fully aware of.
♂️
— Atlanta Falcons (@AtlantaFalcons) November 17, 2019
That’s a significant display of symbolism. If the Falcons are going to be successful under Quinn, the franchise has to put the specter of 28-3 and the greatest collapse of all time behind it. Sunday’s win, following a season of adversity, was a statement about how this team can move forward. It showed they’re one better than 28-3. And with two straight wins over divisional opponents, they’re showing they believe in their coach too much to just roll over and die.
Or, maybe it just means Kyle Allen isn’t as good as he seemed and the Falcons are too talented to be a 2-14 team and are more likely a 5-11 one. Either way.
3. Tony Romo, still our lowkey football psychic
Romo knew exactly what the Patriots needed when they faced third-and-11 from the Eagles’ 15 in a game where three different drives to the red zone had already stalled out with field goals.
“Now you have to have some kind of cool play,” he opined for a Patriots offense that’d struggled to catch Philadelphia off guard. “The only problem is, all the cool plays take time.”
It turns out he was right on both counts, almost as if he knew the rarely discussed trivia tidbit that Julian Edelman was once a MAC quarterback.*
"now you have to have some cool play. the problem is, all the cool plays take time" -- Tony Romo, seconds before this Julian Edelman TD pass to Phillip Dorsett pic.twitter.com/VlhKgFdDSZ
— Christian D'Andrea (@TrainIsland) November 17, 2019
Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels dug into his bag of tricks and dialed up a lead-taking double throw that included both of Tom Brady’s most trusted targets. The future Hall of Famer spun a lateral out to Edelman, who had two-plus seconds to turn his attention downfield and find a wide open Phillip Dorsett in the end zone for six points. It was New England’s only touchdown in a 17-10 win.
That pivotal play was cool, took time, and worked on third down. Romo knew it was coming, and that wasn’t the only time he’d be vindicated during the broadcast (even if Bill Belichick didn’t agree).
While the Eagles were waiting for that call, Carson Wentz asked our cameraman what he thought the call was. The cameraman said "Tony Romo said no question it's a touchdown." Wentz responded, "Well, Romo's always right." It ended up being a touchdown. (via @TracyWolfson) pic.twitter.com/wMDwwWYp1k
— NFLonCBS (@NFLonCBS) November 17, 2019
*nearly as overlooked as the salient points that both Jimmy Graham and Antonio Gates were college basketball players.
2. Maxx Crosby, the Khalil Mack replacement we all expected him to be
Oakland’s pass rush was nearly nonexistent in 2018. The Raiders had traded away wrecking ball Khalil Mack that offseason, and a toothless group managed just 13 sacks — far and away the lowest total in the NFL.
Head coach Jon Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock spent big to overhaul their offense in the offseason but only brought in one big-name defender: safety LaMarcus Joyner. That put the pressure of rebuilding a low-octane group of edge rushers on some ineffective incumbents, as well as first-rounder Clelin Ferrell and fourth-round pick Maxx Crosby.
This week, Crosby stepped up to deliver a fresh dose of misery atop the Bengals’ smoldering pile:
Not one... Not two... Not three... FOUR sacks for @CrosbyMaxx today. Unreal. #RaiderNation pic.twitter.com/Kjqdr0tVt2
— Oakland Raiders (@Raiders) November 18, 2019
Crosby abused the Bengals’ inept offensive line for the biggest day of his NFL career, sending fill-in quarterback Ryan Finley to the turf four times for a net loss of 37 yards and one fumble. He was part of a unit that harangued the rookie QB into a 13-of-31, 115-yard, zero-touchdown afternoon.
Crosby only had 2.5 sacks in the half-season leading up to the game against Cincinnati’s AAA lineup, so it’s fair to doubt whether this breakout was a sign of things to come or just an outlier performance. Either way, it helped the Raiders improve to 6-4 with a 17-10 victory, and Oakland is now in the thick of the postseason hunt less than a year and a half after Gruden gutted the roster.
If Crosby can be half the player he was in Week 11 through the end of the season, the Raiders could be a real headache as 2019 winds down.
1. Michael Gallup, who did his brother proud
One year ago Sunday, Gallup learned his brother Andrew had passed away at the age of 23. He used his memory to fuel him against the Lions — and that motivation helped carry him to one of the biggest performances of his budding career.
Gallup had a personal-best nine catches and 148 yards as the Cowboys outlasted the Lions in a 35-27 win. After the game, he acknowledged how he carried his brother with him on the field.
A year ago today, @michael13gallup learned his brother passed away. "I needed to come in here and play that one for him." He had 9 catches and 148 yards in a @dallascowboys win (via @SlaterNFL) pic.twitter.com/okFyJTGWQy
— NFL Network (@nflnetwork) November 17, 2019
“Obviously it’s going to be tough around this time every year,” Gallup told reporters after the game. “His birthday was Nov. 10, so it’s always a hard one.
“But to go out here and have fun and do what I love – he knows that I’ve always loved this game, and he was up there watching me. So it’s a good feeling to be able to do that for him and have the family watch as well.”
That was the second-year pro’s third 100+ yard game of the 2019 season. More importantly, it was a fitting tribute to a family member.

Accident in a WalMart parking lot and the other party's insurance denied my claim... any advice?
Hi everyone, I would appreciate your ideas regarding the following situation: My son had a car accident last week in a nearby WalMart parking lot (Dallas, Paulding County, GA). He was driving down a parking lane and hit a car which came out of nowhere cutting across the aisle. Both vehicles had extensive damage (front of the vehicle on our car, and driver side on the other car). There was a gentleman who saw everything and called 911. The sheriff's deputy arrived at the scene promptly. He explained there would be an accident report, but since this happened in a private parking lot, he was not in a position to state who was at fault. I got the report the other day and it states the facts about the accident and gives the contact information for the witness. I have spoken with the other driver's insurance company three times and I just found out that their claims rep has determined that my son was at fault, so they have denied my claim. The claim with them was actually originally filed by the other driver. I politely asked to speak with a supervisor and was advised that I should expect to receive a call from a supervisor soon. I did not get a chance to talk to my insurance rep after I found out the other insurance denied the claim, but I am not sure if there is anything my insurance can do for us, especially given the fact that we only have liablity coverage on this vehicle (no collision coverage either). I think it is really outrageous how they could claim my son was at fault, if all evidence points to the fact that their insured was driving across the parking lanes and obviously did not see our car. I cannot find anything online (like traffic regulations) that explicitly says that the driver cutting across the parking lanes is at fault if there is a collision, but I think it is common sense that this should be the responsible party! If anyone has had a similar experience, or has any suggestions, your help will be very much appreciated!""

Advice about car insurance in Ohio..paying way too much?
I reside in OH. I have insurance through progressive, my payments are about $230/month. I do finance my vehicle so it's necessary to have full coverage, I do have GAP insurance through my car dealership. OK. I have a ticket and 2 at fault accidents on my record (one really wasn't my fault) both under $500 claims... ANYWAYS, I know people who have DUI's that have lower car insurance than I do and I am a good driver, ugh. Is there any sugesstions on ways to lower my car insurance? I know eventually they will drop off but the last accident is on until April 2012 the other will drop August 2011 and the ticket will be gone October of this year. I am paying a mortgage, condo fees, a car payment that I just aquired January, this new insurance payment which is like an additional car payment (it was $100 before getting full coverage), and the obvious other bills. I am so strapped for cash, is there any ways to lower this fast or any good companies in OH that can give me lower price?""

Schoenfield: Just one critical next-half move for all 30 teams - SweetSpot
The Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox acquired the trade deadline off with a bang, and with so quite a few teams needing to upgrade and a cluster of teams in the American League wild-card race, the following two weeks will be entire of trade speculation and might even attribute a different blockbuster or two.
As teams go after bargains or a playoff spot, in this article is the most vital thing for just about every crew to achieve in the next half.
American League East
Boston Pink Sox — Resolving 3rd foundation, where by the Pink Sox are hitting .235 with seven dwelling runs, is the noticeable require, and perhaps leading prospect Rafael Devers is the eventual respond to.
But the most vital thing might be getting David Price tag in the ideal body of intellect heading into the postseason, where by his observe history is notoriously poor. Following a few of incidents with the media, he has pitched better of late, with a 2.52 Era in his final 4 starts off heading into the All-Star crack.
New York Yankees — Many thanks to to start with-half MVP Aaron Choose, they are next in the AL in runs scored, but they have finished that even with a big gap at to start with foundation. Greg Chook is nevertheless battling an ankle injuries, and Chris Carter was produced. The Yankees rank 29th in the majors in wOBA at to start with foundation, hitting a collective .198.
They just acquired Garrett Cooper, who is hitting .366 with seventeen dwelling runs at Triple-A Colorado Springs for the Brewers, but All-Star Yonder Alonso looks like a perfect trade prospect.
Tampa Bay Rays — The Rays are not likely to make a significant offer, so their playoff hopes might relaxation on the effectiveness of younger starters Jacob Faria and Blake Snell.
Faria has had a incredibly hot start off to his profession with a 2.11 Era by 6 starts off, like a sterling 37-to-9 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 38⅓ innings. Former leading prospect Snell is -5 in 10 starts off, as he continues to walk also quite a few batters.
Baltimore Orioles — The collapse of the commencing rotation, a 5.75 Era and disappointing seasons from Manny Machado, Chris Davis and Mark Trumbo mean that the Orioles are not likely playoff contenders, which might drive Dan Duquette into trading relievers Zach Britton and Brad Brach as the O’s search to incorporate some younger expertise to a weak farm program.
Toronto Blue Jays — The entrance office has to decide no matter if to publish off 2017 as a undesirable year and regroup in the offseason or watch this as an getting old club in decrease. The offense has fallen from to start with in the AL in runs in 2015 to 14th. If the Blue Jays decide to promote, that could mean browsing Josh Donaldson, who is qualified for no cost agency soon after 2018. The crew most in require of a 3rd baseman, however, is the division rival in Boston. Donaldson for Devers?
American League Central
The Twins require to proceed to build their younger expertise this kind of as Byron Buxton. Paul Battaglia/AP Image
Cleveland Indians — The Indians you should not have any significant holes, primarily with rookie Bradley Zimmer keeping his have at the plate and enjoying a fantastic heart discipline.
With Danny Salazar on the DL and Trevor Bauer and Josh Tomlin scuffling, Mike Clevinger has grow to be the de facto No. three starter guiding Corey Kluber and Carlos Carrasco. As this kind of, the Indians require Salazar or Bauer to figure factors out or perhaps require to look at adding some rotation depth.
Minnesota Twins — They’re hanging in there in the playoff race, but a minus-sixty run differential indicates that it is not likely to proceed. That usually means the next half is nevertheless about the advancement of the younger gamers, especially Byron Buxton, who is attempting to locate some regularity at the plate so he can grow to be something near to a league-common hitter.
Kansas Town Royals — At this stage, they are all-in for a person final run just before Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas and Lorenzo Cain strike no cost agency soon after the period.
The Royals are 29th in the majors in wOBA from still left discipline and 29th from ideal discipline, so they require offense from people two places. They might have to bite the bullet on Alex Gordon, who looks washed up, and see if Jorge Soler is a option in still left discipline. Rookie Jorge Bonifacio has at the very least furnished league-common production in ideal due to the fact his get in touch with-up.
Detroit Tigers — J.D. Martinez will be a no cost agent, which usually means it is really a great deal a confident thing he’ll be traded. Justin Wilson has a different period of crew handle, but a great deal of teams will get in touch with about the electric power lefty with 49 strikeouts in 34.one innings. It can be all about maximizing the return for people two.
Chicago White Sox — They manufactured their significant move in trading Jose Quintana to the Cubs and could nevertheless offer David Robertson, but it is time to get in touch with up Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez and Yoan Moncada from Triple-A and give them two-in addition months in the majors. None is tearing it up at Charlotte, but at this stage, they require to be challenged and master against the finest.
American League West
Could Yonder Alonso be on the move from Oakland? Bruce Kluckhohn/Usa Currently Sporting activities
Houston Astros — They have a few of inquiries to handle, this kind of as no matter if to get in touch with up Derek Fisher and participate in him in still left discipline or DH, but the absolute most vital thing is getting Dallas Keuchel healthy and back again in the rotation. He has been out due to the fact June 2 for the reason that of a neck injuries, and his well being might establish no matter if the Astros go soon after a different commencing pitcher, this kind of as Sonny Grey.
Los Angeles Angels — It can be 2017, fly balls are leaving the park like Marlins lovers in the seventh inning of the All-Star Sport, and Angels to start with basemen are hitting .211/.274/.332, figures barely satisfactory for a middle infielder in 1974.
Sure, getting Mike Trout back again and slugging .742 the relaxation of the way will support, but the Angels require something from to start with foundation.
Texas Rangers — Rougned Odor has a .260 OBP, Mike Napoli has a .273 OBP, and Jonathan Lucroy has a .303 OBP. That was meant to be the meat of the Rangers’ lineup. They can search to make a trade to incorporate pitching, but except people 3 do better at getting on foundation, the Rangers would not be enjoying baseball in October.
Seattle Mariners — The Mariners are form of trapped, with a poor to start with half that leaves them hunting up in the wild-card race but without a farm program that will allow for them to make any considerable additions. They can deliver this crew back again for 2018, so a critical in the next half is figuring out if younger starters this kind of as Andrew Moore and Sam Gaviglio are reputable rotation choices for following period.
Oakland Athletics — Alonso is a no cost agent, and Grey is acquiring a comeback period. Billy Beane and David Forst will be producing a great deal of cellphone phone calls the following two weeks.
Countrywide League East
Nats GM Mike Rizzo requirements to locate some bullpen support. AP Image/Cliff Owen
Washington Nationals — “Good day, this is Mike Rizzo. I’m hunting for some bullpen support. Indeed, your full bullpen.”
Atlanta Braves — In addition to deciding no matter if the Freddie Freeman experiment at 3rd foundation can be a authentic thing, the advancement of Dansby Swanson is big. He’s hitting just .221/.296/.324 with 77 strikeouts in eighty five games in a poor to start with half.
Miami Marlins — The potential sale of the crew by operator Jeffrey Loria looms above the next half. Three bids are reportedly in to Loria, with significant names this kind of as Derek Jeter, Michael Jordan, Jeb Bush, Mitt Romney, Tom Glavine and rapper Pitbull concerned in some of the teams. The preferred, however, might be South Florida billionaire Jorge Mas.
New York Mets — Do not say it … you should not even go there … it is a ridiculous plan … I’m likely to say it: WILL TIM TEBOW BE Termed UP IN SEPTEMBER?
Philadelphia Phillies — They might make a insignificant trade or two, this kind of as Pat Neshek and Jeremy Hellickson, but the most vital thing is Odubel Herrera, Maikel Franco and insignificant leaguer J.P. Crawford showing enhancement soon after terrible to start with halves.
Countrywide League Central
Getting Jose Quintana is pleasant, but the Cubs require to start off scoring runs. Joe Camporeale/Usa Currently Sporting activities
Milwaukee Brewers — They’ll in all probability incorporate a bullpen arm and perhaps a starter, but to keep on to to start with area above the Cubs, they are going to require Jimmy Nelson and Chase Anderson to match their to start with halves. Nelson went eight-four with a three.30 Era and 118 strikeouts in 109 innings, finally showing the command to match his stuff. Anderson had a 2.89 Era but is currently on the DL for the reason that of an oblique strain.
Chicago Cubs — Getting Quintana will support the rotation, but the offense requirements to action it up. The Cubs are averaging four.53 runs for each video game, just beneath the NL common of four.sixty two in 2016, they averaged four.ninety nine runs, a lot more than a half-run better than the common of four.forty four.
St. Louis Cardinals — The bullpen has borne the brunt of the criticism, and while they have misplaced only two games they led likely into the ninth inning, the relievers are just eight-sixteen and rank 14th in the majors in acquire chance added. But some of that blame goes to the offense: The Playing cards are hitting .202/.285/.351 in late and near circumstances. They require better late-video game clutch effectiveness from the hitters as properly as the relievers.
Pittsburgh Pirates — Andrew McCutchen’s OPS+ in 2017: 135. His profession OPS+: 138. Following putting up a one.193 OPS in June and one.292 so far in July, McCutchen has re-set up his trade value, and for a crew hunting for a corner outfielder, he abruptly looks like a fantastic in shape. Will the Pirates offer the deal with of their franchise? If they ended up closer in the playoff race, perhaps they maintain him and make a run, but they are 42-forty seven. Seem for a offer to materialize.
Cincinnati Reds — The rotation owns a 5.ninety one Era, which would be the worst due to the fact the 2005 Royals had a six.00 mark. The a person male acquiring a fantastic period is Scott Feldman, and he’ll in all probability be traded. The next half must be about giving innings to fellas this kind of as Amir Garrett, Luis Castillo and Cody Reed to see if any of them has the potential to fill a spot in the 2018 rotation.
Countrywide League West
Could Padres reliever Brad Hand lend a hand to a contender? Rob Carr/Getty Photos
Los Angeles Dodgers — They have the next-finest bullpen Era in the majors, but they must make a move for a lefty reliever to use with righty Pedro Baez in entrance of Kenley Jansen. Britton and Wilson would be great candidates, as properly as San Diego’s Brad Hand. If the Dodgers want to perform a larger offer with the Tigers, bringing in Martinez to participate in still left discipline would incorporate a electric power ideal-handed bat to the lineup.
Arizona Diamondbacks — Talking of Martinez, the D-backs could use an upgrade in the outfield, where by they rank twenty fourth in the majors in wOBA in still left discipline. Yasmany Tomas is not fantastic, and he’s on the DL, which usually means they are faking still left discipline with bench fellas this kind of as Daniel Descalso, Gregor Blanco, Chris Herrmann and Rey Fuentes (all of whom started out in still left discipline previous 7 days).
Colorado Rockies — I maintain pounding this dwelling, but the Rockies have only 3 regulars with an OPS higher than league common. Carlos Gonzalez has arguably been the worst normal in the majors, and if his shoulder is not one hundred percent healthy, they require to locate a option. Probably which is Gerardo Parra or Raimel Tapia, or perhaps the Rockies must go after Martinez as properly.
San Diego Padres — They’ll in all probability trade Hand and perhaps Trevor Cahill, but the next half is mostly about the ongoing advancement of younger fellas this kind of as Manuel Margot, Hunter Renfroe, Austin Hedges and Carlos Asuaje.
San Francisco Giants — They’re sixty four-ninety eight due to the fact previous year’s All-Star crack, so the entrance office has to acquire a extended search at which veterans will nevertheless be in this article in 2018 and no matter if this group can regain its mojo following period. Trade choices are small: perhaps Brandon Belt, and perhaps Johnny Cueto, apart from his decide-out clause usually means that his trade value is rather minimal.

Kevin Kaduk: The entire football world might be unable to look away from the Chicago car wreck, but the truth is that laughing at the Bears’ first-round foibles has turned into a rite of spring for those of us in the Windy City.
This is nothing new.
Yes, there was Brian Urlacher in 2000, Tommie Harris in 2004 and Kyle Long in 2013. Greg Olsen (2007) turned into an All-Pro (albeit for another team, thanks Mike Martz!) and the jury is still out on Leonard Floyd (2016). The rest of the list is cover-your-eyes worthy, though. It’s headlined by punch-line quarterbacks in Cade McNown (1999) and Rex Grossman (2003), anchored by a trio of running backs that never lived up to their college fame (Rashaan Salaam, Curtis Enis, Cedric Benson) and accented by three wide receivers (Curtis Conway in 1993, David Terrell in 2001, Kevin White in 2015) who never proved they were worth a top 10 pick.
The rest of the list is made up of players long since forgotten by anyone not holding a Chicago area code: John Thierry? Michael Haynes? Kyle Fuller? Chris Williams? Gabe Carimi? What’s truly astounding is that this has truly been a group effort with five different front offices contributing to being consistently disappointing.
So while Mitchell Trubisky might be a bit taken aback from the reception he’s received so far, he can take solace in the fact that it’s really not him, it’s the Bears’ front office.
Shalise Manza-Young: Ricky Williams to the Saints. New Orleans was 6-10 in each of its first two seasons under Mike Ditka, and he clearly wanted to make a splash. But teams that haven’t been to the playoffs in six years, like the Saints going into the 1999 draft, generally need more than one player to change the course of the franchise. Not to Ditka. He traded his entire ’99 draft – and first- and third-round picks in 2000 – to Washington in exchange for the No. 5 pick, which he used to get Texas running back Ricky Williams. And after all of that, what did Ditka and the Saints get? A 3-13 season in 1999, a firing for Ditka, and only 38 games from Williams. New Orleans traded Williams to Miami in 2002. Throw in that just ridiculous bride-and-groom photo Ditka and Williams posed for on the ESPN the Magazine cover, and the whole thing was just a disaster.
Frank Schwab: Everyone is freaking out about what the Bears gave up to move up one spot for Trubisky. They gave up a pair of third-round picks and a fourth. Here’s what the San Diego Chargers gave up in 1998 to move up from No. 3 to No. 2, the exact move the Bears made: A 1998 second-round pick, a 1999 first-round pick, returner/receiver Eric Metcalf and linebacker Patrick Sapp. Metcalf was a two-time All-Pro returner (though he was ineffective for Arizona in 1998, at 30 years old). Sapp was a 1996 second-round pick who didn’t work out. Still, that makes the Bears’ price to move up look like pocket change. The MMQB pointed out this week that on one of the draft value charts, the Bears gave up 580 points, and the 1998 Chargers gave up … 1,980 points!
And yes, the Chargers drafted Ryan Leaf with that pick, after the Indianapolis Colts took Peyton Manning first. No matter how bad Trubisky is, he won’t be worse than Leaf.
[ STACK: New Raider Lynch shows he hasn’t lost a step ]
“I think the consensus of opinion is that two guys like (Manning and Leaf) don’t come along very often,” Charger general manager Bobby Beathard said on the day of the trade, according to the Associated Press. “If we’re going to be successful in getting that type of quarterback, we’re going to have to give up something, and we really did.”
They really did give up something, no question there.
Jay Busbee: We won’t know for a few years just how bad this Chicago deal is, but you’re rolling into a season with one quarterback hated by the entire fanbase and another (Mike Glennon) feeling like he just got chumped in front of the entire country. Not a great recipe for immediate success. But in terms of draft-day debacles, you can’t beat what happened to the Vikings two years in a row in the early 2000s. The clock ran out on Minnesota while it was trying to swing a 2003 trade with Baltimore (to be fair, the Ravens didn’t submit their half of the deal to the league in time) and the Jaguars and Panthers leaped up to hand in their cards before Minnesota could get its act together. The year before was even more humiliating: a Kansas City staffer literally blocked the Vikings staffer from reaching the podium so that Kansas City could complete a trade with Dallas. That’s why you need to send a line-busting fullback to rush that card to the podium, not some analytics geek.
Eric Edholm: Technically, the Rams-Redskins trade that brought Washington RG3 wasn’t a Draft Day debacle since the trade happened a few weeks prior to the first round. But the Redskins pulled the trigger on Robert Griffin III, and if my memory serves at the time, there wasn’t a whole lot of conjecture about the price the Redskins paid to move up. Griffin was considered that good, and most people debated whether he — not Andrew Luck — was the real prize of that class. We know how that one went. And to me, it’s not about the picks the Rams made in exchange; it’s about what they could have done with them. In theory, the Rams realistically could have drafted Luke Kuechly, Janoris Jenkins (whom they actually took), Lane Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins. Oh, and the Rams had chances to draft Russell Wilson and Kirk Cousins at the tops of Rounds 3 and 4, respectively. Yeah, this whole thing was a debacle all the way around.
Question 2: What would it take to get you to play a full series of downs at quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers? No kneeling down, no handing off; you have to throw at least one pass.
Frank Schwab: I’ve always wondered things like: If you got a full season of at bats in Major League Baseball, could you get one hit? (I’ve figured yes, seeing some of these pitchers swing, and none of them go hitless over a career.) Or, how many games would you have to play in the NBA – with a green light to shoot – before you made a basket? But those questions don’t involve 300-pound linemen about to crush your spine and your soul, so the answer is that it would take a lot. Maybe not Mike Glennon money, but enough to cover inevitable medical expenses.
Eric Adelson: In addition to a hefty check, I’ll need a premium Netflix subscription because I’ll be laid up for a while. (Amazon Prime too. And Alexa.) Medical coverage that has no deductible. A Firehouse subs gift card. A self-driving Tesla. And someone to cut my cable cord because I do not want to see those highlights.
Shalise Manza-Young: Can we clone Joe Thomas to play offensive line in front of me? Will I have in-his-prime Randy Moss on the receiving end? If we can do that, I’d consider. And since I’d be in the area, a postgame private meal cooked by Bay Area super-chef Hubert Keller would sweeten the deal.
Jay Busbee: You ever seen an NFL play up close? No? Put it this way: even executing a simple handoff is going to rip your arm out of the socket, my friend. So none of that for me. No, I’d request my paycheck for the game go straight to charity, and then I’m going to line up in the shotgun formation, take the snap, and fire three straight passes at Kyle Shanahan, all the while screaming YOU COULD HAVE DONE THIS AGAINST THE PATRIOTS, KYLE! And then I’d get ground into powder by Luke Kuechly (or, more likely, my own O-line), but it’d be worth it. And I would claim my own personal rehab as the charity to which I’d be donating.
Eric Edholm: Heck yes, I’d play a series for the 49ers. Call three seven-step drops for all I care. Well worth the 39.6 passer rating that comes with three straight intentional groundings. My price: A measly roster spot all season. The NFL’s rookie minimum salary for 2017 is $465,000, and for that I would give Aaron Donald three good shots at me. Oh, and since John Lynch granted Peter King a spot in the 49ers’ draft war room this past weekend, I would assume that my signing bonus would come in the form of the tell-all book rights for the 2017 season. Sign me up. Talent-wise, I am basically like 31 percent as good as C.J. Beathard.
Kevin Kaduk: It depends. How much have I had to drink? What kind of horse tranquilizers can I access afterward? Honestly, I’d probably do it for 10 grand provided you give me some scout team work during the week. I’m tall enough to see over the line and I think I might even be able to complete one pass with the right play drawn up. That’d be enough to get a decent backup job somewhere else for the next few seasons, right?
There you have it. Weigh in with your own thoughts below. Got ideas for future questions? Email us and you might just find your name in lights. Now, get practicing; the 49ers could be calling any day.

The Latest: France sees drop in COVID-19 hospitalizations | World News

———

The Life-Changing Surprises That Come From Not Drinking for a Year
Party girl meets the bright light of day. / Photograph courtesy of Pat Bourque
My name is Rachel, and I am not an alcoholic. (Hi, Rachel.) But I drank too much, so I decided to take a couple of weeks off. A couple of weeks came and went, and as I neared the end of a month, I still didn’t feel ready to jump back in. I was feeling better—my head felt clear, and I felt more in control than I had in a long time. So I decided to make it a full calendar year, just to see what would happen. Right now, I'm nine months in.
Most people go dry for a resolved month in January (kudos!), but the idea struck me, seemingly without warning, in early May of last year. My anxiety had started chewing away at random parts of my life over the last year or two, and everyday activities had started sending me straight into heart-slamming panic. So one afternoon, I was doing nothing more unusual than driving to PetSmart for cat food when I suddenly experienced crashing waves of anxiety, like a spaceship was going to zoom down at any moment and swoop me up. It shouldn’t be this terrifying to drive 20 minutes away from my house, I thought.
So I considered what, in my day-to-day life, I could change. Contributing to my anxiety that day was my hangover. I'd overdone it a little the night before, which had made me uncomfortable and physically ill, but more than that, it was interrupting my brain function. All those neurons and synapses were firing off fight and flight simultaneously, creating a mental cocktail for panic. In that moment, I realized there was no way to combat my anxiety without cutting out the booze in one hard line.
But my lifestyle was so steeped in cheap beer and sparkling gin and tonics that it was practically impossible to imagine fully separating myself from booze. See, my corporate career of nine years was in sales and marketing with one of those big, fat macro-breweries popular with hipsters, millennials, and celebrities who want to be seen drinking low-brow brew for a dose of street cred.
Jell-O shots, a.k.a. the stuff of nightmares.
"We’re all just functioning alcoholics," one red-faced boss said as we walked into a big stadium to negotiate a placement for the season. "Highly functioning alcoholics." His shirt looked like he paid someone to wrinkle it, and he'd wrapped electrical tape around most of his fingertips in a bid to prevent him from biting his cuticles and nails down any more than he already had. He looked puffy and untrustworthy.
When he said those words about us, I felt like I was being force-fed a half-dead rat.
"I’m not like you," I thought. And maybe I wasn’t. But the thought made it hard for me to just blithely go from happy hours to tastings to beer fests. In the beer biz, there was one irrefutable expectation, especially if you're among the rare women: You have to be able to hang.
You might also like READ
One morning, I met with a salesman to ride his route to try to sell his accounts on some new product we were pushing. He said he gets an early start, which I never do, so meeting him at a neighborhood bar in the morning was a stretch in every way. Still, it felt like a kind of adventure. Walking in, I realized that the bar was full from one end to the next—at 7 a.m. When a heavy glass tumbler full of Baltimore’s honey- and cinnamon-laced moonshine, which is called "Evil," came at me first thing with a clink, I thought, "Ugh," but tossed it straight down the hatch. It was just going to be one of those days.
Over the years, these days became less surprising and more and more common. Some salesmen lived this drink-all-day life every day, so it gave me a strange sense of perspective. I could separate my drinking, a whole cut above the rest, and think, "I’m still not like you." Comparatively, my relationship with alcohol was mild.
After I left the industry, I wish I could say I found greener or more holistic pastures, and at times I did, but I still drank. Drinking helps so much with everything from anxiety to stage fright… until it doesn’t. And when it isn’t helping, it’s one hell of a choker. But in the past nine months, I haven't had so much as a sip, drop, shot, or beer since the day I decided to try this on. The closest I’ve come is the odd dream here and there where, for some ungodly reason, I drink a warm, cheap beer out of a plastic cup, or an awful, fruity malt beverage—and immediately regret my actions. I wake up feeling so incredibly relieved that none of it actually happened.
So here are my key takeaways, just in case you’re like one of the many people I encounter whose curiosity about going sober for a time comes from thinking about calling it quits too.
No booze means no hangovers.
I didn’t realize how amazing never, ever getting a hangover would be. Yes, it's even better than the boozed-up confidence that encouraged me to wear that dress and dance at the soul night and talk to a boy. Not being hungover is gorgeous. The utter lack of hangover makes me feel like quitting drinking isn’t actually about cutting something out so much as putting something better in.
People aren’t really that scary.
OK, some people will always be scary, but without the social lube, the scary ones become apparent super quickly, and I can now move away from stranger danger like BAM instead of after half a dozen half-witted hangs in a dark bar, groping at intuition. Otherwise, people in grocery stores and audiences and meetings are just people instead of automatic heart attack prompters.
Sleep is amazing.
I get it now: Sleep is restful. My dreams are cray, but I had missed them so, so much. Pro tip: If I ever want a "sober drunk," I just stay up way past my bedtime and get all the delirious feels that come with a little sleep deprivation. It really works.
Your appreciation for basically everything develops.
I used to get antsy at concerts, and I couldn’t really appreciate a day at the museum, knowing there was a beer to be had at the bar after. "Portrait, portrait, war sucks, portrait, sculpture—got it! Let's go." My attention span for things I cared about was diminished, and so was my capacity to love. Love requires all kinds of stillness, genuine curiosity, and wonder, it turns out.
Your social life will experience ch-ch-ch-changes.
If I kept yammering on about all the amazing benefits of not drinking for a year, you might not believe me, and you’d be right: Some things aren’t easy. A number of my friendships revolved around partying—it’s just what we did and how we spent our time. So some of those connections didn’t hold up without the crutch. Alcohol can really rev up an argument for some people, but it can also cast a spell and make you think a connection is stronger than it is.
Damn, does the mirror become your friend.
In my experience, suddenly ceasing drinking means you’ll lose weight. Your face will look less tired. That stubborn belly fat ceases to be stubborn when you stop feeding it. IMO, you could exercise less and still look better if you quit drinking. But if you’re like me, you’ll end up exercising even more because you feel like it, because it feels good to be physically strong. Before, I often saw exercise as a way to balance alcohol's negative effects. Now it’s a simple matter of power.
My lifestyle was so steeped in cheap beer and sparkling gin and tonics that it was practically impossible to imagine fully separating myself from booze.
My life has been positively affected by quitting drinking in all of these ways and more. Most of all, putting down the bottle has helped me to build confidence, and I believe that a lack of confidence causes all kinds of trouble: It makes Sally anxious, and it makes Jon want to sabotage himself and others around him. It breeds dark, ungainly urges.
When you feel bad about yourself, chances are that negativity and doubt are gonna express themselves one way or another, and whether you throw yourself a pity party or use them to try to make someone else look bad, they’re going through you—making you age prematurely, that surly look on your face stick, your blood spoil. In short, it’s not a good look.
Drinking can ease insecurity and boost a kind of false confidence that starts unnecessary fires and leaves a trail of meanness that burrows a not-so-charming perma-link in your brain. And this kind of damage is not easily undone. If instead, in the clear light of day, you confront whatever monster is living in your head or your heart and telling you, "You aren’t good enough," you’ll be happier and have a more meaningful relationship with yourself and others.
In the end, I honestly can’t think of any good reason to drink anymore. The idea of the year off drinking was to change my behavior around, and relationship with, alcohol. I figured a year would be long enough to hold a variety of experiences—holidays, breakups, hopefully meeting the man of my dreams, rejections, sleepless nights, congratulations, throw-down fights—and that if I could manage all that without the hard stuff, I’d have a pretty good idea of who I really am, what I really want, and how to make it happen. And so far, it's working.

NFL Dad, Week 9: Standard time and Blair Walsh ruined my Sunday
Relive Sunday's action with one dad, two toddlers, and six hours of the RedZone channel.
Welcome back to standard time! I hope everyone enjoyed their extra hour of sleep when the clocks fell back, except for the tiny segment of the population that is children and people who live with children.
There’s a common refrain around the internet that daylight saving time is bad. Au contraire! It’s standard time that’s a scourge upon our land. I’m fine with when the sun rises and sets during spring and summer. But at no point during the fall am I like, “Y’know what? I’ve been enjoying my circadian rhythms, but I just wish it was dark outside when I left work.”
And I know that EVERY parent bitches about the time change, but let me just pile on: A one-hour time change WRECKS young children. My son was a disaster all day just because America wanted to save energy a hundred years ago during World War I. Let’s spring forward next year and never go back.
EARLY GAMES, FIRST HALF
— We’ve got seven games on the early docket, and it’s not a promising slate. Falcons-Panthers is the only game between two winning teams, and calling the Falcons a “winning team” feels like a stretch. Leonard Fournette is suspended by the Jags for a violation of team rules for their home tilt against the Bengals. Brock Osweiler has returned to the Broncos’ starting lineup for the first time since 2015, the season he won the Super Bowl with the team (LOLOLOL, but also: he went 5-2 as a starter that season). And in some alternate, better universe, Colts-Texans features Andrew Luck versus Deshaun Watson. Here in Shitworld, it’s Jacoby Brissett-Tom Savage.
— Brissett quickly excuses himself from the shitty quarterback conversation with one of the first big plays of the day, a 45-yard touchdown bomb to T.Y. Hilton on a post route. It’s a great throw by Brissett, made even better by the complete absence of a safety to help on the deep ball.
PERFECT pass by @JBrissett12. And @TYHilton13 makes the grab! Touchdown, @Colts! #Colts http://pic.twitter.com/vijqVMrrft
— NFL (@NFL) November 5, 2017
— Philadelphia is wearing their all-black uniforms, which smacks of desperate, capitalistic opportunism. The Eagles aren’t a black team; they’re a green and white team. Their attempt to pivot away from kelly green and act like black is one of their colors (“Look at the outline of the eagle!”) is a corporate swindle to sell jerseys.
These are the NFL teams with a claim to going black-on-black:
Raiders
Ravens
Steelers
Falcons
Saints
Maaaaaybe the Jaguars, and only because they were born in the ‘90s and deserve a reprieve from teal. (“Teal: Give us a break, Kurt Cobain was still alive.”)
— The Ravens execute a successful fake punt near midfield. (“The Ravens: Special teams is our offense.”) That leads to a 3rd and 10 inside the red zone, which Joe Flacco solves by throwing a swing pass for one yard. Please, wear a surgical mask and goggles if you have to watch this offense. Baltimore kicks a field goal to go up 3-0.
— It’s 3rd and 12 for the Jags near midfield, which means it’s time for an off-target throw from Blake Bortles. But wait, there’s a twist!
This grab by @Air4Cole is just ridiculous. #Jaguars http://pic.twitter.com/aftjtpW7zW
— NFL (@NFL) November 5, 2017
Keelan Cole snatches the overthrow, and keep your eye on this rising star. Catching horribly thrown balls is how Odell Beckham made his name in the NFL.
With the Jags set up in the red zone, they soon face a 3rd and 7, which means it’s time for a Bortles deflection at the line of scrimmage. A Bengals defender drops the easy interception, and the Jags kick a field goal to take a 3-0 lead.
— The rout is on in Philadelphia. Carson Wentz sells play-action and rolls right, lofting a pass to Alshon Jeffery, who’s beaten his defender down the sideline. It’s a 32-yard touchdown.
.@cj_wentz + @TheWorldof_AJ… It’s an @eagles TOUCHDOWN! #FlyEaglesFly http://pic.twitter.com/h7o5S0TDby
— NFL (@NFL) November 5, 2017
I know I said “the rout is on” for a 7-3 lead, but in my defense, Osweiler is quarterbacking the Broncos. I feel supremely confident about the way this one’s gonna go.
— It’s 1:30, and my son is refusing to nap. We took the kids out earlier than usual this morning, because they were up at their “usual’ time, which was suddenly 6 a.m. instead of 7 a.m. (BURN DOWN THE GOVERNMENT.)
Anyway, because my daughter learned to pee in her little potty this week, we owed her a treat, so we put the kids in the stroller for a 30-minute walk to an old-timey soda shop to get an ice cream sundae. But because my son was so burned out by the time change, he fell asleep on the way back home. We didn’t think it was a big deal — a 25-minute disco nap before lunch shouldn’t preclude a real nap at 1:30 — but guess what? IT VERY MUCH PRECLUDED THE NAP.
— The Rams, in the red zone, pull off a kind of wide receiver screen that’s actually a hook-and-lateral to Tavon Austin? It doesn’t go in for a touchdown, but it’s a fresh use of Austin after he wilted in Jeff Fisher’s care. Sean McVay is gonna win Coach of the Year just because he’s an upgrade from Rotting Jack-O’-Lantern With a Mustache.
— Marcus Mariota throws a perfect play-action pass to Rishard Matthews for a touchdown, and Matthew celebrates with a surf celebration that includes paddling out into the waves. I respect the realism! The Titans lead 10-3.
Marcus Mariota finds @_RMatthews for the @titans TD... Surf’s up! #TitanUp http://pic.twitter.com/iwP26VlRCV

— This is gonna shock you, but Brock Osweiler has thrown an interception. The Eagles start a drive on the Broncos 15 and score three plays later. It’s 17-3, Eagles, and the rout is more on than before.
— Jacksonville has had ball for 15 minutes compared to five for the Bengals, but the Jags only have a 3-0 lead to show for it. But then Bortles throws a short touchdown to Marqise Lee to complete a 96-yard drive. Congratulations, Bengals, you let Blake Bortles lead a 96-yard drive without Leonard Fournette. Y’all should be relegated.
— With the Rams short of midfield and facing 3rd and 33, they throw a WR screen to Robert Woods … who scores a touchdown on the play. Relegate the Giants, too.
.@pfref has data going back to 1994. No team’s ever allowed a third-and-30+ conversion before the Giants just did https://t.co/smP4jRKdqQ
— Bill Barnwell (@billbarnwell) November 5, 2017
RedZone never even shows the Giants get the ball back. Next thing you know, Sammy Watkins is streaking for the end zone on a 67-yard TD pass. It’s 24-7 Rams, and I wash my hands of this bloodletting.
— I kinda breezed over it above, but I want to make it clear that when your 18-month-old child usually naps for 2-3 hours in the afternoon, then circumvents that with a 25-minute doze before noon, you don’t just have an awake kid instead of a sleeping kid. You have a walking tire fire instead of two hours of silence. I will run for office and/or lead a revolution to eliminate seasonal clock changes.
— (breaking news ticker sound) EXTRA! EXTRA! TOM SAVAGE ISN’T GOOD:
Tom Savage: 31.3 completion % today (5/16) No other player with 15+ attempts in any half this season has completed fewer than 35% of throws
— NFL Research (@NFLResearch) November 5, 2017
I mean, who could have seen that coming? Besides Bill O’Brien, I mean.
— My wife and I, exhausted by our son, are letting him click the lamp in our bedroom on and off with only the BAREST amount of supervision. His favorite things in the entire world are lamps, fans, clocks, and dogs. Give him one of those and there’s a 97% chance you have enough time to go pee before he does something potentially fatal.
— I would like to travel back in time and draft Alvin Kamara in all of my fantasy leagues.
Are you kidding, @A_kamara6?! What. A. Play. #GoSaints http://pic.twitter.com/zYpfE0e3Iq

— Holy cow! A.J. Green and Jalen Ramsey have both been ejected after Green LOST HIS MIND on Ramsey. Green gets credit for the choke-slam but loses it with the punches to Ramsey’s helmet. ALWAYS PUNCH THE GROIN, KIDS.
My initial reaction to this is that Ramsey must have been RELENTLESS in torturing Green throughout the first part of the game, because Green is one of the nicest, humblest super-humans to ever play wide receiver. Sure, as an elite wide receiver, he’s a driven competitor, but he’s not a Steve Smith-like Terminator in search of fights.
This makes me feel like a sappy bag of hugs — like the sort of hack NFL reporter who says, “I know Player X, and he would never hit a woman” — until I see Antonio Brown’s tweet confirming my suspicion:
that’s not like AJ !!!Not like AJ like he got great attitude something must be going on !
— Antonio Brown (@AB84) November 5, 2017
YES! Thank you, Antonio. I am not a crackpot.
— The Texans score a defensive TD with a sack-fumble that ends up in Lamarr Houston’s arms with a clear path to the end zone. Congrats Texans, it was either that or Tom Savage conjures the spirit of Deshaun Watson into his arm.
— Jay Ajayi made his name with the Dolphins by breaking off big plays in 2016. His failure to do so this season is part of the reason Miami shipped him to the Eagles before the deadline. What do you think was gonna happen?
Welcome to the @Eagles, @JayTrain23! #FlyEaglesFly http://pic.twitter.com/JtUwnTJQFw

EARLY GAMES, SECOND HALF
— While most of the games are in halftime, I take my dog out and bring my son along, rolling the dice on him walking instead of needing a stroller. The rain is light but steady, and he toddles along in his yellow rain slicker, splashing in puddles, petting the dog, and charming passersby on the sidewalk. It is a LOT better than any of the games on RedZone.

Don’t let him sucker you in; that cute face threw up in my hand yesterday. He was choking on some apple in his stroller, and I put my hand under his chin and told him to spit it out, and instead he coughed up the green smoothie he had for breakfast. It was the consistency of pea soup with ham and the color of Nickelodeon slime.
— I come back inside and it’s apparently 30-3 in New Orleans? Jameis Winston is out of the game, and it appears that the Bucs are just gonna take the whole season off. I’m beginning to feel like this season “Hard Knocks” was a government conspiracy filmed on a sound stage, like the moon landing.
Anyway, this isn’t quite A.J. Green/Jalen Ramsey, but Mike Evans goes high and to the right on Winston makes this the chippiest hour of RedZone I’ve ever seen.
Jameis Winston out here trying to play tag and Mike Evans just wants to fight everyone. #Bucs http://pic.twitter.com/CMZqRHwFia

— One of my favorite plays: the ballcarrier goes down without contact, no defender touches him, and he gets up and keeps running. In this case, T.Y. Hilton goes 80 yards for the score:
He wasn't touched! 80-YARD TOUCHDOWN FOR @TYHILTON13! #Colts http://pic.twitter.com/vYdSO5E8NO
— NFL (@NFL) November 5, 2017
That’s good for a 17-7 Colts lead late in the third quarter. Deshaun Watson would have five touchdowns and this game would be 48-17 if knee ligaments weren’t so stupid.
— The Jaguars get a 63-yard punt return to go up 23-7. Good night, Bengals. Go join the Bucs in the “mailing your season in” holding pen.
— The Falcons are down 10 and just outside field goal range, so they go for it on 4th and 7. Unbelievably, Matt Ryan finds Julio Jones running free, wide open in the end zone. The ball hits Jones in the hands, but he drops the ball. I am gobsmacked. Trigger warning on this one, folks:
Just the perfectly constructed wide receiver getting open by 10 yards and dropping a perfectly thrown ball on 4th down that would have been an essential score. I’m not even a Falcons fan, and this one shakes up my world a little.
— Look at this burning trash barge:
Very good quarterbacks are quarterbacking http://pic.twitter.com/kcD465izBV
— Bill Barnwell (@billbarnwell) November 5, 2017
WOOF. Just a Viking funeral pyre of used diapers and coffee cups.
But then, something strange happens. Tom Savage really DOES conjure the spirit of Deshaun Watson into his arm.
.@TomSavage03's first career TD pass... And it was GORGEOUS.@deandrehopkins on the receiving end! #Texans http://pic.twitter.com/6Zh5tcSgwN

The Texans are alive in this game, but also not, because: Tom Savage. That was a nice throw on the touchdown, but c’mon: we’ve all seen enough Tom Savage to know what’s up.
— I crack open my daughter’s door at 3:45. She’s gone the other way with the time change: napping too much. And it’s a travesty to wake a child from a nap, but I also need her to be able to fall asleep tonight.
— Atlanta scores a touchdown with 3:25 remaining. They now trail 20-17 instead of taking the lead. They’re really gonna try to make this look like a comeback, aren’t they?
OK, so they get the ball back with enough time to drive for a game-tying field goal. they don’t go anywhere and Matt Ryan misses the throw on 4th down. What a bunch of assholes.
Matt Ryan's lips are mesmerizing @TheFalcoholic http://pic.twitter.com/LxxVNhIXhi

LATE GAMES, FIRST HALF
— There are three late games today. Cardinals-49ers and Washington-Seahawks get underway before the week’s only enticing matchup, Chiefs-Cowboys, kicks off at 4:25 Eastern.
— I’m going to pause the stream-of-consciousness act for a moment. I’ve gone back and forth with how I want to talk about this Seahawks game, and I’ve decided I’m not going to relive all the agonizing dipshittery my favorite team pulled off today: 16 penalties, two Russell Wilson interceptions, two dropped interceptions by the defense, two failed 2-point conversions, and THREE missed field goals. Ah, so THAT’S the Blair Walsh who missed a 27-yarder in the playoffs. Good times. At least it wasn’t a close game.
Anyway, here’s some pigs on the field before the game.
No idea why but a bunch of pigs on the field in Seattle. Maybe to welcome The Hogs? http://pic.twitter.com/zIja3TmmyK

— My nanny got my son a plastic drum that lights up and plays music. There are two volume settings: rock concert and jet engine. It’s awful. My son loves it.
You know, as much as I love our kids being socialized and having access to modern medicine, a part of me DOES long for a cabin in the woods where their only toys are whatever rocks and sticks they can find. Would they get eaten by mountain lions? MAYBE. But if not, they’d be so resilient and self-sufficient!
— Patrick Peterson’s long interception return sets up a short field for Arizona’s offense, and Drew Stanton finds Jaron Brown on 3rd and goal for the touchdown. It’s already 10-0 in Santa Clara, and I have some doubts about C.J. Beathard’s ability to lead this team out of the hole. More sideline shots of Jimmy Garoppolo! My eyes demand it!
— This is unrelated to any game I want to talk about, but Bobby Wagner is a missile with arms.
— Kansas City and Dallas are off to a slow start, but a Cole Beasley touchdown finally opens the scoring late in the first quarter. It was a nice drive for Cowboys; I think that Dak Prescott guy has a real future in the NFL.
— My wife Facetimes with her parents, and the cacophony stresses me out: the TV, two toddlers (one of which is constantly at the edge of crying), my wife speaking loudly to be heard, and my (very lovely) in-laws. I try to mute the TV, but nothing happens. I then get up to retrieve the batteries to the remote, because ... toddlers.
— My daughter is wearing a black tee shirt with the Wu-Tang logo and “IS FOR THE CHILDREN” printed on it. Over this, she wears a pink ballet leotard. This sums up her entire aesthetic nicely.
She brings over a small bowl of cashews, climbs onto the couch, and sits next to me. I say, “Oh, you brought me cashews!” as I take one, because Stock Dad is the role I was born to play. But then she feeds me a cashew, so I feed her one. And we go on that way until the bowl is empty. There’s football on TV, I guess.
— In the final minute of the half, Dak Prescott completes a pass to Terrence Williams for a big gain to set up first and goal for Cowboys. A play or two later, Dak escapes the pocket and runs it in himself. The Cowboys will go into the locker room with a 14-3 lead.
... UNLESS Andy Reid calls a downfield screen to Tyreek Hill and the Cowboys tackle like adults in a kids movie.
Credit to Andy Reid for the play design and Tyreek Hill for being the kind of player who only needs three blockers for eight defenders, but also: THIS IS THE MOST ALEX SMITH HAIL MARY POSSIBLE. “I’ll just throw the ball 42 yards short of where it needs to be and let my playmakers do the work.”
LATE GAMES, SECOND HALF
— Our neighbors come over so our kids can hang out. My apartment now has four adults, three toddlers, one baby, and one dog in it, plus 52 Seahawks shitting the bed on TV (Bobby Wagner is the lone holdout).
— C.J. Beathard scores a touchdown to cut the Cardinals’ lead to 14-10, but I’m not going to write any more about this game for two reasons: (1) The Niners are just going to lose anyway, and (2) I still have my dignity. Yes, I used my hand as a vomit cup, but I DID IT WITH MY HEAD HELD HIGH. I’m too old to pretend to give a shit about Drew Stanton and C.J. Beathard game.
— The Chiefs are trailing 14-10 but get it into the red zone with a read-option keeper on 3rd and 1. This has been a nice drive for them; Andy Reid clearly made some halftime adjustments that solidified their running game. Reid would be the best coach in the game if his brain didn’t turn into jellied pork fat after the 2-minute warning.
Alex Smith finds Travis Kelce in the corner of the end zone to give the Chiefs the lead. He and some teammates celebrate with a sack race:
This is at least the third celebration that’s just pretending to play a children’s game (the Vikings had Duck, Duck, Goose/Grey Duck, and JuJu Smith-Schuster played hide-and-seek), and everyone online seems to be eating this stuff up.
And compared to what the NFL used to allow, these are good celebrations! Everyone’s having fun, and that’s a big leap forward for the NFL. But I also feel like we’re going to look back on this time and say, “Really? We thought it was ‘awesome’ that the preplanned touchdown celebration was adults playing children’s games?”
I know I sound like Grumpy Dad, but dads are also right when they tell you that you deserve better. So demand better. Or keep losing your mind over Ring Around the Rosie, do what you like. I’m going to save my praise for the first receiving corps to perform the “Single Ladies” dance.
— Zeke Elliott scores to put the Cowboys up 21-17. That caps a 12-play, 75-yard drive in which nine of the plays were runs. There are still 18 minutes to play, but the writing on the wall is clear: If the Chiefs struggle to score in the final quarter, the Cowboys running game will grind them down, season them, put them in casing, and serve with ribs. Also I may be writing this while very hungry.
— After the 49ers give up a field goal, I tell my daughter, “That’s mommy’s favorite team. My favorite team is the blue team, the Seahawks.”
“What’s my favorite team?” she asks.
Oh boy. “Your favorite team is whatever team you decide you like best,” I say through gritted teeth, my dreams dying.
RedZone flips to a close-up on the Cowboys, who have just scored again to put the game out of reach. “What’s THAT team?” she asks. NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
