an introduction of sorts

Established in 1962 in mainland Nova Scotia, Dan & The Dandelions have been a classic on Canadian and American radio stations alike since their debut album. Starting off as a folk quartet in the late 1950s, The Dandelions have come a long ways.

Frontman, Dan Miller, was born and raised in a Nova Scotian farm off the Bay of Fundy. Growing up the oldest of 4 siblings and having both parents pass away at a young age, Dan has always been quite aware of his surroundings and place in society’s food chain. As a boy, Dan adored the music of Hank Snow, Wilf Carter, and Patsy Cline, even naming three barn cats after them. After being diagnosed with autism in the 90s, Dan begins fighting and protesting for the better treatment of children and testing of adults that may have been overlooked.

In 1959, Dan formed a small folk quartet called Miller, MacLaughlin, Murray, and Nixon. It had two school buddies, Simon Nixon and Craig “Crash” Murray, and his life-partner, Pete MacLaughlin(married 2006). After Crash had left the group, the other three renamed the band and began travelling across Canada eventually meeting bassist, Blanc Monet.

Simon Nixon was the band’s drummer, an orphaned southern boy adopted by his aunt and uncle in Nova Scotia. Dan and Simon met at 9 and 10 years old in a one-room schoolhouse. “We met the December of 1954– Simon had never seen the snow before, he was like a cactus in a snowy tundra,” said Dan in his 1994 autobiography, Dan Miller; Maritime Boy, Guitar-Wielding Hero. Simon married Scottish paranormal-investigator, Anne Abercrombie upon finding out she was pregnant with their first child. The couple have three children, Lenora (later Lennan), Esme and Celeste.

Pete MacLaughlin, a multi-instrumentalist, son of the CEO of MacLaughlin Oral Care and later husband of Dan Miller. On top of that, Pete is a devote animal activist and gay-rights activist after being outed at the height of the AIDS epidemic. Miller and MacLaughlin had been together since they were teenagers, the two had met during the summer of 1958 and began dating in 1961.

The last member to join was French-Canadian bassist, Hugo-Michel “Blanc” Monet. When he first joined the band, Blanc could barely speak English and was taught by his bandmates. He is the younger brother of famous model and radio personality, Colette Monet, the siblings grew up in an apartment in Québec city. Before joining The Dandelions, Monet was married to Melvina Harris, the two had no children. After his divorce with Melvina, Blanc married fellow musician, Natalie Benoit in 1969, they had one daughter, Avril Monet. A decade after Natalie’s death in 1973, Blanc married friend of the band’s, Jael Levi in 1983, they have one son, Antoine Monet-Levi, and Blanc began treating Jael’s daughter, Juniper Levi like his own.

The only girl in the band would be single mother, protest singer, and women’s rights activist Jael Levi. After being forced to marry at 16 her verbally abusive dear husband, James Hall, mysteriously died (she killed him and was never caught) the next year. Levi had her first child at 18, refusing to let the child have her dead father’s last name she was named Juniper Levi. Jael began writing songs and met Dan & The Dandelions in 1966 after their second album hit the charts.

Their east coast roots have most definitely influenced the band, the usage of fiddles and even bagpipes and the lyrics and stories of maritimers being woven into lyrics. Blending country, folk, and rock into a genre of their own.

Personal Project: Holidayze

Designs Pt.1

Today I feel like revealing a personal project that I started back in 2023. I dubbed it Holidayze. A world where famous holiday figures, myths, and nursery rhymes are represented through people who have died from a curse. They now spend their lives together in an eternal purgatory, to bring the joy of their holidays to the human realm… for the most part anyway. Their main hub is this huge castle-like mansion. A lot of these interpretations, specifically those based on holidays, are inspired by my own experience with them. These are all the characters I’ve made so far

Dawn Nouvel-New Years

She’s the story’s main protagonist and the newest guest of the eternal purgatory. The story follows as she attempts to grow accustomed to her new home and her eventual role as the guardian of New Years. She’s very much on the shy side but has grown to be one of the few voices of reason within the purgatory. She gets along fairly well with the others, even though some of them intimidate her. Though she gets along the most with Buddy, Rudolph, and Jack Frost. Buddy and Rudolph are her best friends. She and Jack appear to have a more intimate relationship. Has bruises on her body indicating that she had a rough life before she died. Very existential. She is said to have died during New Years, she doesn’t remember the cause though. Her symbol is the Norse rune Dagaz.

Nicholas Claus-Santa Claus

The appointed leader of the eternal purgatory, though mostly because he was one of the first to arrived. In human life he was an orphan along with his brother, wife, and toy makers they all worked to bring the joy of Christmas to other families. He was also a huge horror movie and comic fanatic. Though his favorite was the movie Alien. Due to his… unfortunate appearance, he prefers to deliver presents at night when he can absolutely confirm everyone in the house is sleeping. He has a magical gift sack that can summon any gift that is on someone’s mind. Not only does he give presents to kids. He also gives at least some presents to the adults. Though if a kid is naughty… he straight up vomits up coal for them. Very fatherly and despite his appearance he had the same jolly personality as most traditional interpretations of Santa. His cause of death was going in to save his brother from a fire at a Christmas Event, only for the building to collapse in on him. His symbol is that of a present.

Valentino-Cupid

The hopeless romantic of the gang. Believes that everyone has that special soulmate somewhere. He has the ability to have someone fall in love with the soulmate he senses is the perfect match. He was modeled after that of a biblically accurate angel. He tends to be very clumsy and slightly over dramatic. Tends to get lost in his own daydreams. He actually does have bow and arrow. If someone is hit by the arrow, they become more romantic and forward, they are also immediately aware of the whereabouts of their soulmate. Valentino just wants to see someone’s happy ending happen. His girlfriend is Cordelia, who appears to be the spirit of Valentine’s Day. His best friend is Pascal. He died the night of Valentine’s Day at the hospital, believed to be because of a broken heart. His symbol is that of a heart with an arrow through it.

Patrick-St.Patrick ‘s Day

The tough and headstrong Irish man. Tends to be a bit hard to read sometimes. Especially with his resting bitch face, unusually loud voice, and how guarded he is. Has a strong Irish accent. Is also the shorter one, though don’t point that out or he’ll whack you with his cane. Tends to like being in the purgatory, as smoking and beer doesn’t affect him as it does when he was human. The only one he isn’t cold to is his wife Mabel. Can do a traditional tap dance, also knows how to play the bagpipes. Also loves gold. His best friends are Sam, Liberty, Mint, and Reese. He is said to have died defending someone in a bar fight on St.Patrick’s Day. His symbol is that of a shamrock,

Pascal-Easter Bunny

His outfit reflects what his job was in living. Pascal was a church priest who would travel in order to celebrate various Easter events. Though now as his current role as the Easter Bunny, he travels using various bunny burrows in order to hide eggs among various towns. A very sweet yet very meek rabbit humanoid. Tends to view his situation as a sign from God that this is meant to be his eternal life. On his off hours he is often seen praying and reading from his travel Bible, thanking God for giving him this role after death Loves his wife Greta dearly and his best friends are Valentino and Cordelia. Is one of the smarter residents and is often praised for having held on to his sanity for this long. He is said to have died in a plane crash while traveling to an Easter event in another state. His symbol is that of an Easter egg.

Jinx Von Sassafras-April Fool’s Day

Jinx is a jester who loves pulling pranks on the various residents and the human realm. Especially during April Fool’s Day. While most of their pranks are harmless, they also tend to be very chaotic. They wear a mask because they love the air of mystery it brings to humans. They’re very flexible and acrobatic. They’re currently in a poly relationship with Mercutio, Gareth, and Asher. Their best friends are Reese and Bridget. They tend to hate authority and also hates confronting their own feelings. They’d rather just have fun, play pranks, and make people either annoyed or happy. They have the ability to emote with their twin tails. All they want is to give a prank performance to the levels that they would do in life. They are said to have died during a prank gone wrong, which resulted in a full blown fight, that ended in them hitting their head on the side of a road pavement, later dying in hospital from their injuries. Their symbol is a laughing face.

Asher von Sprinkles-Birthday

Asher both in life and currently, is a birthday clown. All he wants is for people to have a happy birthday. While he does appear at many birthday parties when summoned, he mostly shows up when he senses someone is alone on their birthday. He wants to be that friend to help celebrate that person’s birthday, offering them gifts and that person’s favorite flavor of birthday cake. He makes a squeak sound every time he walks. He can also summon balloons from the balloon badge in the middle of his bow tie. He loves making balloon animals. Overall a very happy go lucky and air headed lad. He loves baking and making decorative crafts. In a poly relationship with Jinx, Mercutio, and Gareth. His best friend is Reese. The candles on his hat spark based on his emotions. Is said to have died after getting hit by a truck. His symbol is a balloon.

Uncle Sam-4th of July

A pyromaniac. A man who wants to show that he loves the USA. Loves shooting a huge amount of fireworks in the sky in order to celebrate the 4th of July. It is actually rumored that in life he was a war veteran, though it’s a time of his life that he refuses to talk about. He would rather focus on the good parts of his current situation because at least he gets to watch the fireworks of 4th of July. It is rumored that he’s actually closer to a full loss of his sanity than most of the residents. Though thankfully he has his wife Liberty to keep him calm. Tends to be very forgetful. Loves flying in the air, through this he feels truly free. A very patriotic man, when you get past his loud boisterous personality, he’s actually a nice guy to have a chat with. His friends are Thomas and Eliza. Ironically, he is said to have died in a fireworks accident. His symbol is that of a star.

Bridget Corey-Halloween

Said to be a the spirit of Halloween, other than her boyfriend Ichabod. Though she deals with the more “family friendly” aspects of Halloween. A witch with real magic. She enjoys just flying around on her broomstick seeing that everyone��s in good Halloween cheer. She is also said to comfort people and help them feel less scared about the Halloween. Her favorite pastime is handing out candy and telling scary stories. Also loves sewing various costumes. She’s a very eccentric woman, is also a crazy cat lady. Her best friends appear to be Reese, Kris, Asher and Jinx. Can actually be quite unhinged at times. But that’s mostly just her being passionate about Halloween. She and Ichabod were said to have been murdered by someone modeling himself after The Headless Horseman on Halloween night. Her symbol is a piece of candy.

Thomas-Thanksgiving

He lowkey knows nothing about the origins of Thanksgiving. He only knows how his family celebrates, which is usually by big dinner parties and family coming over. As well as watching the parade. Ironically his favorite holiday is Christmas, implying that the only reason he’s Thanksgiving’s guardian cause that’s when he perished. He could honestly not give less of a shit about the holiday. A great chef. Ironically again… his favorite food is turkey. His hands are covered in feathers and his shoes hide his turkey feet. He can do an accurate turkey call. Meticulously grooms his tail everyday. Slightly aloof and has trouble showing emotions, mostly through his eyes. But for the most part he’s very friendly, also has a fatherly flair to him. Tries to show his emotions through his actions since he knows he doesn’t show emotions well. He loves his wife Eliza and his friends are Maribeth, Nicholas, Buddy and (reluctantly) Sam. It’s believed that he and his wife were poisoned on the night of Thanksgiving at a family party. His symbol is that of a turkey hand craft.

Look, I killed his mother and sisters while they were passed out. Stake to the heart and all that. But! I had good reason to, I swear!

My son, Lil Vladdy, was born to me and and his mother, at the time when she was my girlfriend. But then I found out, that bitch was crazy!

She and her daughters lured men by ANY means to become a part of their blood harvesting pile. They did unspeakable things to me, things I want to forget so badly. And when I just wanted to end it all, they introduced me to something called Basemental Drugs…and I was hooked for a long time.

But then one day, as messed up as I was, I managed to escape with my son, getting the hell out of forgotten hollow and back to the springs as fast as I could. Naturally they came looking for me, and found me hiding away in a cottage in Henford on Bagley. It took nothing for the two daughters to overpower me, and bring me and my son back to the hollows, where I was chained and drained night and day.

The events that followed were events I’d like to forget, but I’m constantly reminded of them when I look into my son’s eyes, and see his mother’s gaze reflecting in them.

I love my son, but I don’t want to hurt him. (And i for damn sure don’t want to die) so uh, send help? 💀

Play On Podcasts: Shakespeare Reimagined

Friends can fill many important roles in people's lives, such as support, companionship, enjoyment, and sharing feelings. One contribution a friend can make is to guide you to TV shows, movies, books, and podcasts that are worth your time. I'm still upset at my buddy Gene for recommending Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. 

As a counterpoint to Gene (who also recommended Velma and The Idol), a business acquaintance -- Andreea Coscai from Tink Media -- recomended Play On Podcasts. What you have to know about Andreea is that she's never been wrong about a podcast she's recommended to me. It's automatic now. If Andreea recommends it, I listen to it. Sure, maybe I'm not that interested in a podcast about 12th Century footwear fads. But if Andreea recommends it, I know it's ear worthy. 

 Andreea Coscai is a digital marketer and podcast producer passionate about multicultural investigative reporting. Her latest podcast is titled Who Holds Up Half the Sky. In 2020, she founded the first NGO that promotes leadership and networking for young women, Her Time Romania. She spent her childhood in Romania, lived in China for two years, and moved to the United States in 2018. The podcast she recommended, Play On Podcasts, is simply genius. It reimagines Shakespeare's timeless tales, featuring original musical compositions and the voices of extraordinarily gifted artists. It's remarkable that the podcast is superb in so many ways. The original music is delightful and enchanting. The acting bristles with emotive energy. The plays they re-enact are much more Laurence Olivier in Hamlet than Mel Gibson in Hamlet. The scripted plays facilitate Shakespearean humor, wit, and sarcasm to flow through them.

Most important of all, the plays are scripted in modern English verse for modern audiences. Therefore, the age-old excuse that you don't like Shakespeare because you can't understand the words has vanished. 

My first play on Play On was Othello, which began in September 2023. The play was broken up into seven episodes of about 35 minutes per episode. Then, Play On releases bonus content, typically with the playwright who reimagined the Shakespearean classic in modern verse or one of the actors. The October 13, 2023 bonus content of Othello with playwright Mfoniso Udofia was inspired, with Udofia explaining how to handle the conversion of words from old English to modern language, especially the racial epithets. 

Then, Play On released the full play of Othello in one episode, which lasted over three hours. Their current series Romeo & Juliet was just released during the holidays. Play On is currently on episode two of Romeo & Juliet. I just finished listening to it, and I can't wait for episode three next week. I hope the couple finds a happy ending, like in a Hallmark Christmas movie.

In episode one of every play, Play On recommends that listeners use headphones or earbuds for the best listening experience. It's a recommendation I urge you to follow. The plays are rich in sounds that can captivate your ears. There is the dialogue -- crisp and understandable. The background sounds -- horses, wagons, merchants, nature -- can layer you into the play like being an avatar in a video game. The show has a voice and text consultant, an equipment and recording engineer, a sound effects assistant, and a production assistant. That's a lot of resources and a lot of money. As a listener, you hear that excellence.

 The music strikes at your emotions, ratcheting up intensity, fervor, and excitement. In Macbeth, the show even has a bagpipes' musician.

As I've mentioned before, acting in an audio only format is incredibly difficult. Facial expressions, body language, and physical movement become irrelevant in an audio only drama. These actors from Play On are masters manipulators of voice -- intonation, insinuation, and implication reign supreme in their audio realm. 

Play On podcasts began in April 2021 with Shakespeare's masterpiece Macbeth. It's a great play to begin with, and Play On's treatment of the classic is masterful. In my one and only foray into acting, I played Macduff in a high school play. I thought I was a solid Macduff. In Play on, an actor named Chinaza Uche played Macduff. And our son said that's probably not what that is and had a grin on from a demon that's nearby and he said oh that's good like you get something who started to blab and blab and we said no you don't get anything and he got a little upset and we said we don't want you saying these things too any of us and he said how do you how does it feel to want and the guy started to bumble again and we said we don't want you there by the time we were saying it we were there and we're in demon format I didn't like it it's calling his buddies at first and didn't do anything so he pressed his phone and it wasn't working she began shouting and if you heard him and they can't barreling down the hill and they got you would think it was the Mac proper or Mac morlock or pseudo empire it was one of those groups that was there and that group is not there anymore and having a little fight over it and they're fighting over what happened and things like that and they're also fighting because that's where they announce major battles and say they're going to win and it's all three groups and they fight over who's going to be there and who's going to make the announcement and they lost the fight they think it is the pseudo empire who interrupted and you can see them and their bodies were all over the place but the Mac bodies were all over the place too and they started fighting in the MC warlock where I found dead too they're all fighting over this job to be announcers all of them lost. And who did want to show you what happens in that day actually lose right now we are gearing up for battles and it's against these people here mostly and they are trying to fight to take over areas that day abandoned but really military structures and they didn't have it they couldn't get us there because they were being obstructed by their own went on for some time and they think that they have that problem handled and they're going to try and take over and strike people in the way ually for saying it's awesome we don't really appreciate them saying that so we're going to town on them and soon the whole army is going to be extinct from their attempted action and we're going to take them the correct way for all of this abuse it's horrendous they're horrendous. Brogan Sho is the Ultimate Pimp and the Chapter 2 Blackened of the Eddsworld X Danganronpa AU.

Backstory: Brogan (now Brenda) Sho was born on April 19th, 1988 in Cleveland, UK to an absentee mother named Christine and a very abusive father named Jeremy. When Christine Sho was home, Jeremy Sho would take his drunken aggressions out on him from slaps all of the way to cigar burns. When Christine wasn't home, Jeremy took his aggressions out on Brogan. Thus causing Brogan to slowly develop a hatred for men. At primary school, Brogan was alone due to the fact that everyone would just avoid them. Thankfully on October 31st, 1997 (Brogan was 9 years old at the time), Jeremy Sho died from a drunken drive off of a bridge into the cold depths. During his teenage years, Brogan meet Edward "Edd" Evans in the back of the school parking lot with Tord. The two quickly became buddies before slowly, Edward would move on to other things.Christine did her best to raise Brogan until he left the house to stay at Edd's house (his only friend) on April 19th, 2009. Brogan's eyes were diverted to Laurel, especially her shoes. But when he tried to solicit her, Laurel threw a lamp at him, causing Brogan to move out of Edd's house. After a year of house jumping, Brogan became roommates with Tord in a apartment complex in Norway. There Brogan started a strip club called "Varmt og Dampende" where pornography can be made in Norwegian and English.

On September 4th, 2015, Brogan became an trans woman named Brenda. However, she didn't want to go through transitional surgery. Mostly because her father abused them during their childhood (but Brenda wanted to get closer to women in general).

Facts about Brenda Sho:

Brenda can play the bagpipes and the Furby organ.

Brenda's favorite food is Ayam bumbu rujak (Indonesian Javanese food with chicken). Brogan's favorite candy is Club chocolate covered biscuits.

Brenda seeing an opportunity for a threesome immediately rushes into the maze, grazing her cheek on some glass. As Brenda goes through the maze, she gets half of their face burnt of by a fire trap, her left arm gets broken by a swinging spike ball, among many cuts. She reaches the end of the maze to find out that the girls were just holograms. The walls have holes for big spikes which immediately crushes Brend, leaving behind a bloody mess.

The song playing throughout the execution is Punk Tactics by Joey Valence & Brae.

Every year, I take a small group of Celtic music fans on the relaxing adventure of a lifetime. We don't see everything. Instead, we stay in one area. We get to know the region through its culture, history, and legends. You can join us with an auditory and visual adventure through podcasts and videos.

In 2023, we’re going on a Celtic Invasion of County Mayo in Ireland. Here are four things you can do to learn more about Grace O’Malley, the famous Pirate Queen:

Grace O'Malley's Castle in Rockfleet: This 15th - century castle was once the stronghold of Grace O'Malley, also known as Gráinne Mhaol. Visitors can explore the ruins and imagine what life was like for the legendary pirate queen.

Clare Island: This island off the coast of County Mayo was the base of operations for Grace O'Malley and her followers. Visitors can tour the island, visit the remains of O'Malley's castle, and learn about her life and legacy.

The Westport House and Gardens: This historic house and estate was once the home of the Browne family, who were involved in the capture and imprisonment of Grace O'Malley. Today, visitors can tour the house, explore the grounds and gardens, and learn about its history and connections to O'Malley.

The Museum of Country Life in Castlebar: This museum is dedicated to showcasing the history and culture of rural Ireland. It includes exhibits on the lives of the people of County Mayo, including Grace O'Malley and her connection to the area. Visitors can learn about the history and culture of the region, and the important role that Grace O'Malley played in it.

Freeeeezing cold Scottish festival 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🥃🇬🇧🧊☃️❄️ One thing I've learned about the bagpipes while hanging out with my best buddy AK is these bastards are pretty temperamental... Especially when it comes to humidity and temperature 🙈😂😭🤣 We came out midday to support these crazy athletes who were out here making the magic happen tossing logs, stones, and hay bales 💪 I can report back there's only one way to stay warm on these cold Oklahoma afternoons y'all... Fire up the bagpipes and keep moving 🔥🎉🥳 I discovered the car of the future rusting out in the field behind where these games were being hosted. Honestly I will say this Studebaker resting and making its way back to Babylon slowly year after year is still a more beautiful car than anything that's been produced in the last few decades by either foreign and domestic manufacturers 😛 Probably at some point when I'm done traveling full time in the next decade I'll buy a garage and start restoring derelicts like this ole girl keeping their well worn & earned patina all the whiiiile shoehorning in some good old-fashioned updated American muscle under the hood 🚗💨🤘 Until then I will stare longingly at these antique autos as they rust ever more returning back to nature from once they came 🌌💜🚀❤️‍🔥 (at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnYXvy1NOsF/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Anyone who says college is boring is LYING or just focusing on the classes aspect. In which case, what are you, a business major? lmao

I just saw a guy unicycling around campus if that isn’t interesting you must a) have no wonder or joy left in your soul or b) lead a WAY more interesting life than I do

The second option is probably more accurate because all I do is stay home, but, then again, do any of us live interesting lives? We’re on tumblr.

If you want to come up with a third explanation/option for why unicycles aren’t that unusual to see, go nuts.
