Pineapple Slice 🍍
Baekhyun x reader
Synopsis: Following one of the latest dating trend has given you a story to tell: you crashed your shopping cart into the funniest and most charming man in the wine section, with which you ended the night sharing the pineapple that led you to this circumstance. Blessed are the pineapples!
(Immensely inspired by the Mercadona's matchmaking trend)
Genre: comedy & a tiny bit of thriller
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You never imagined that your evening would involve grocery shopping with a hint of romantic intrigue, but here you are, in the fluorescent-lit aisles of Mercadona, holding an upside-down pineapple like it's a VIP ticket to a secret club. This is no ordinary pineapple, though. Oh no, this prickly fruit is your entry pass to a new and oddly specific trend: the supermarket matchmaking ritual.
You'd heard the rumors, of course. It started as a whisper—something you caught on the lips of giggling friends or saw scrolling past your social media feed: "Mercadona matchmaking—just flip a pineapple upside down, and let destiny (or the shopping carts) do the rest." It sounded too ridiculous to be true, yet here you are, pulled in by the intrigue and the faint hope that this bizarre trend might lead to something unexpected.
It’s nearly eight. The night fell over the city, and the supermarket is buzzing with the usual after-work crowd. The familiar hum of chatter, the clattering of carts, and the soft overhead music blend together into a soothing backdrop as you roll your cart down the aisles. Nestled among the other groceries, your pineapple sits prominently in the cart, its spiky crown pointing defiantly downward. You feel a twinge of self-consciousness as you catch the curious glances of a few fellow shoppers, but even more of the discreet employees, who have probably seen this happening for weeks.
You find yourself glancing around, wondering who else might be in on this odd tradition. A young woman nearby is examining avocados with intense focus, and you wonder if she, too, has a pineapple hidden somewhere in her cart.
The wine aisle, you’ve heard, is the designated meeting point for those participating in this quirky matchmaking ritual. You weave through the aisles with practiced efficiency, grabbing a few essentials along the way, all the while hyper-aware of the pineapple in your cart.
Finally, you turn the corner and find yourself facing the long stretch of wine racks. It’s still early, but there’s already a small gathering of carts lined up along the aisle, not not all of them with a pineapple. Frankly, just a middle-aged man, but it was lying on top of the bread packs.
You thought about turning around and leaving, but curiosity didn't allow it. You took a few steps forward, passing by the different brands of beer.
And then you see him.
He’s standing a few feet away, studying a bottle of red wine with the kind of concentration that suggests he’s either deeply interested in the vintage or just trying very hard to look like he isn’t here for the same reason you are. His cart is just beside him, with a perfectly placed upside-down pineapple perched on it. The sight of it brings a rush of relief and excitement—proof that you’re not the only one taking this odd experiment seriously.
You feel a little jolt of excitement, mixed with the tiniest bit of nervousness. After all, this whole thing is pretty unconventional. But as you watch him, you notice something else: He’s cute. Really cute. He has this boyish charm about him, with dark hair that falls just slightly into his eyes and there’s a playful energy about him, as if he’s someone who doesn’t take life too seriously. You can’t tell if it’s his relaxed stance or the way he drums his fingers against the wine bottle, but something about him immediately puts you at ease.
Taking a deep breath, you steer your cart closer, the wheels squeaking slightly as you approach. There’s an instant where you hesitate—what if this whole thing is just some kind of elaborate joke?—but then your cart bumps gently against his, and there’s no turning back now.
He looks up at you, his eyes meeting yours with a mixture of surprise and amusement. For a moment, there’s silence—neither of you speaks, but the silence isn’t awkward. It’s more like the two of you are savoring the moment, enjoying the ridiculousness of it all.
"Looks like we've both been caught in the pineapple conspiracy…" he says, breaking the ice with a warm, teasing smile.
You laugh, the tension melting away as you mirror his playful tone.
"I guess we have. I wasn’t sure if this would actually work, but here we are."
"I wasn’t sure either." he admits, setting the wine bottle back on the shelf and leaning casually on his cart. “But here we are. I’m Baekhyun, by the way.”
"Nice to meet you, Baekhyun." you reply, trying to match his easygoing vibe and giving him your name.
He smiles, repeating it as he nods.
“So,” he says, glancing back at the wine selection. “Do you know anything about wine, or are you just as clueless as I am?”
You raise an eyebrow, pretending to ponder the question.
“Well, I know it comes in red, white, and pink. That’s a start, right?” you say.
He laughs, and the sound is infectious.
“Impressive. I usually just go by what has the coolest label.”
You share a conspiratorial smile, as though you’ve known each other much longer than the five minutes you’ve actually been talking. It’s easy, this banter, and you feel a surprising amount of chemistry sparking between you.
“So, what do you say we pick something based purely on the label’s artistic merit?” you suggest, half-serious.
Baekhyun nods, stepping closer to the wine display.
“Let’s do it. I mean, that’s as good a method as any, right?” he chuckles.
You both start scanning the rows of bottles, making lighthearted comments about the various labels—some elegant, some quirky, and some just plain bizarre. Your carts are still nudged together, the pineapples sitting in silent companionship as you and Baekhyun exchange playful remarks and the occasional brush of shoulders. It’s a bit surreal, how quickly you’ve settled into this comfortable rhythm with a total stranger, but you’re enjoying every second of it.
At one point, Baekhyun picks up a bottle with a particularly eye-catching label—an explosion of swirling colors that look like they were inspired by a psychedelic dream. He holds it up for you to inspect, his grin wide.
“This one.” he declares. “It’s bold, it’s colorful, and it looks like the kind of wine that would make a Saturday night way more interesting.”
You tilt your head, pretending to scrutinize the bottle with a critical eye. “It’s definitely eye-catching. And it would be a shame not to reward the winemaker’s creativity.”
He chuckles, tossing the bottle into his cart. “Exactly. Plus, if it turns out to taste terrible, at least we’ll have a good story to tell.”
Your smile widens as you realize just how much you’re enjoying this—how easily Baekhyun’s playful nature draws you in. There’s something about the way he engages with you, with just the right mix of humor and sincerity, that makes you want to keep the conversation going, to see where this chemistry might lead.
With your chosen bottle in hand, the two of you navigate back toward the front of the store, continuing your light-hearted banter. You learn that Baekhyun has a mischievous sense of humor, a penchant for spontaneous adventures, and a surprising amount of knowledge about the post bed time conspiracy documentaries, which he claims is purely for the sake of keeping up with the imagination and creativity of those who produce them (though you suspect he might secretly enjoy it).
“So,” he asks as you walk down the fruit aisle, on the way to the checkout lanes. “What's the plan after this? You have any pressing pineapple-related obligations, or are you free to share this artistic wine with me?”
There’s a light in his eyes that suggests he’s genuinely excited about the possibility of spending more time with you. There’s an underlying excitement in his voice that makes your heart skip a beat! And truth be told, you feel the same. The invitation is casual, but the potential behind it is anything but.
“In fact, I can't even eat fresh pineapple like that. My stomach is sensitive to the acidity. I only eat canned pineapple…” you reply with a shy smile, putting the pineapple back in place.
Baekhyun’s brows furrow in concern for a moment before his expression shifts to determination.
“Well, that won’t do. You deserve to enjoy your pineapple without any discomfort.”
Before you can respond, he’s already striding towards the canned fruit displayed on the other side of the aisle, purposefully scanning the shelves. He quickly finds a can of pineapple slices, holding it up triumphantly.
“There we go.”
“You really didn’t have to do that.” You laugh, touched by the gesture.
He grins, tossing the can into your cart. “It’s no trouble at all. Besides, I want to make sure you enjoy every bite.”
The cashier rings up your items, trying not to smile. It's definitely a joke to them. They certainly laugh at every person who passes by with a cart with a pineapple. Fair enough, though. You would probably find favor in the subjection of the romantically stranded to these strange circumstances if you weren't part of them…
As you bag your groceries, Baekhyun turns to you with a conspiratorial smile.
With your groceries in hand, you and Baekhyun make your way out of the store and into the cool evening air. There’s an almost electric feeling in the air between you—an unspoken acknowledgment that this night could be the start of something special.
“Shall we?” Baekhyun asks, gesturing toward the parking lot where his car is parked a few spaces away from yours.
You nod, falling into step beside him, your hands brushing slightly as you walk. The conversation flows easily, filled with teasing remarks and genuine curiosity about each other’s lives. It’s almost surreal how quickly you’ve settled into this comfortable rhythm, as if you’ve known each other much longer than the hour it’s actually been.
Baekhyun’s charm is infectious, and you find yourself laughing more than you have in a long time. Ah, if he at least made it easy, with that smile at the side of his mouth…
When you reach his car, Baekhyun pauses, turning to face you with a playful glint in his eye.
“So, do you believe in fate? Or do you think this was just a well-timed coincidence?”
You consider the question for a moment, then smile.
“Maybe a little bit of both.” You say thoughtful. “I mean, what are the odds of two people meeting over upside-down pineapples in a supermarket? It’s too strange not to have some kind of cosmic influence, right?”
He laughs, nodding in agreement. “I like that answer. It’s just the right amount of romantic without being too over-the-top.”
There’s a brief pause, the air between you charged with the possibilities of the night ahead. You can feel the pull of attraction, the unspoken promise of where this might lead.
“So…” you ask, your voice tinged with both excitement and a hint of nervousness.
Baekhyun’s smile is warm and inviting as he holds up the bottle of wine. “How about we find a nice spot, crack this open, and see where the night takes us?”
You meet his gaze, feeling the thrill of the unexpected, and nod. “That sounds perfect.”
As you both look at each other, the scene subtly shifts. The parking lot, which moments ago felt like just another part of your ordinary world, begins to take on an almost cinematic quality. The streetlights above cast a soft, warm glow, and the city sounds seem to fade into the background, leaving just the two of you and the quiet, shared anticipation.
Baekhyun stops beside his car and turns to you with a grin that’s half-playful, half-serious.
“This is where I’d offer you a ride, but that might be a bit too cliché, even for us.”, he says.
You laugh, shaking your head.
“Who said clichés were a bad thing?”
“Fair point.” he says, his eyes twinkling with mischief. “But I think I’ll walk you to your car instead. A gentlemanly gesture, if you will.”
As you reach your car, there’s a lingering pause, the moment hanging in the air with a kind of expectant magic. Baekhyun leans against your car, his gaze never leaving yours.
“Tonight was fun.” he says softly, almost as if he’s not quite ready to say goodbye just yet.
You nod, a soft smile playing on your lips. You weren't too.
“Yeah, it was. And who knows? Maybe this is just the beginning.” You dared.
“Actually,” he says slowly, pointing at your bag. “Why wait until later? We have the can right here.”
You raise an eyebrow, curious, following his finger.
“You want to eat pineapple slices in the parking lot?”
He nods, already reaching into his pocket for his keys to pop the can open.
“Why not? It’s a warm night, and we’re not in any rush, are we?” He smiles softly, asking for permission.
You can deny his pretty eyes hidden in that dark brown hair.  What a situation! It will have to be kept very well, or perhaps it will be a story that your friends have never kept quiet about.
You nod, opening the bag and giving him the can.
Before you can think twice, the weight on your hand is relieved as he’s already opened the can and is fishing out a slice of pineapple with his fingers. He holds it up with a playful smile, the juice dripping slightly as he offers it to you.
“Here.” he says, his voice soft, almost teasing. “A little taste test.”
You hesitate for just a second before leaning in, your lips brushing against the cool, sweet pineapple. His fingers lightly touch your mouth as you take a bite, and the intimate gesture sends a shiver down your spine.
Baekhyun’s eyes darken just a bit as he watches you, the playfulness in his gaze shifting into something deeper, more intense. He brings the rest of the slice to his own mouth, finishing it off before wiping the juice from his fingers.
“Good?” he asks, his voice a little lower now, the closeness between you feeling more charged than ever. "Extra sweet?"
You nod, swallowing the sweetness of the pineapple, but it's the way he’s looking at you that really leaves you breathless.
“Very.”
He grins, but there’s a softness in his expression, a tenderness that wasn’t there before.
You both pull back just slightly, the slice gone, but neither of you moves away. His hand is still raised, fingers hovering near your lips as if he’s debating whether to close the gap entirely.
“Pineapple in the parking lot,” he murmurs, his voice low and husky. “Who would’ve thought it’d be this… fun?”
You smile, your heart racing as you meet his eyes, the flirtation between you now unmistakable.
“I guess you make everything more interesting.”
His lips curve into a slow smile, and for a moment, you think he’s going to kiss you.
Then, just as he leans in a bit more, the scene abruptly shifts. Without warning, a group of figures emerges from behind the parked cars, their movements eerily synchronized. Their faces are obscured by grotesque, animalistic masks—warped and twisted, like something out of a nightmare. The masks glint under the dim streetlights, and the air seems to thicken with a suffocating sense of dread.
A cold shiver races down your spine as they close in, their laughter echoing through the parking lot—dark, mocking, and full of menace. The sound is so jarring it feels like it’s digging into your skin. You glance at Baekhyun, searching for reassurance, but the look in his eyes stops you cold. There’s no trace of the playful warmth from moments ago; instead, his gaze is filled with something that chills you to the bone—an unspoken farewell.
You try to make sense of it, your heart hammering in your chest, but before you can speak, Baekhyun takes a sharp step back. His eyes lock onto yours for a brief, agonizing second—an apology and a warning all at once—before he turns and bolts, his footsteps echoing in the stillness of the night.
The masked figures, with their eyes fixed on their target, immediately give chase, their movements quickening as they pursue him with relentless determination.
The scene is chaotic and surreal. You stand frozen, heart pounding in your chest, as the group of masked figures races after Baekhyun, their footsteps echoing like a drumbeat of impending doom. Their cruel laughter fades into the distance, drowned out by the sound of their pursuit.
You’re frozen, caught between the urge to run after Baekhyun and the paralyzing fear. Your instincts scream at you to move, to help, but the terror that grips you leaves you rooted to the spot.
And then, the warm parking lot lighting shifts, transforming into the stark, bright glow of studio lights. The background blurs, and you hear the faintest hint of a director’s voice calling.
“Cut!”
You blink, disoriented for a moment, as the entire scene begins to dissolve. The bustling parking lot gives way to a filming set, complete with cameras, crew members, and all the trappings of a high-budget music video shoot.
Baekhyun walks back next to you, his laugh echoeing through the set. The masked men take off their masks, giving way to much more normal, smiling figures you know from some previous scenes.
“Looks like that’s a wrap for this scene!” he says, his voice still holding that teasing warmth, though now it’s accompanied by a knowing look that acknowledges the thin line between reality and performance.
You smile, slightly dazed as you realize what’s happened. It was all a setup—a beautifully orchestrated scene designed to capture the essence of a spontaneous, romantic encounter interrupted by a bit of terror. And all by his head!
But as the set dissolves around you, there’s still that lingering connection between you as the adrenaline runs through your veins, something that feels a little too real to be just another take.
“Good job, everyone!” The director calls out, clapping his hands as the crew begins to wrap up the scene. Baekhyun turns back to you, his eyes still sparkling with that same playful energy.
“Guess we fooled them, huh?” he says, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper as if sharing a secret just between the two of you.
You laugh, the sound a little more real, a little more genuine now that the cameras are no longer rolling.
“I guess we did. You’re quite the actor.”
Baekhyun shrugs, the easy charm still firmly in place.
“Maybe. Or maybe there’s something to be said about real chemistry. What do you think?”
The question hangs in the air, both playful and slightly serious. As the crew begins to pack up, you realize that the scene may have ended, but the connection between you hasn’t. And as you step away from the set, Baekhyun beside you, you can’t help but wonder if this was just a scene—or if it’s the beginning of something more.
When you separated to enter your respective dressing rooms, Baekhyun calls you.
“The wine proposal is still standing.”
You chuckle as you look back, seeing him hanging on the stairs to the entrance of the white container. You nod.
“You can drive me, though." you tease. "Just please don't have any more crazy people chasing you!"
He laughs.
“As you wish!”

NCT Dream and long drives at night with them.
Mark Lee
Long drives with Mark is at the city. It'll be past midnight, compared to its busy days and traffic-jammed evening, the city will be empty. Only a few cars passing by, that's why you and Mark love it! He'll drive smoothly, would stop by a fast food chain drive-thru to buy snacks for the two of you while driving around the city. His playlist on the speaker and probably has his hands on your thighs throughout the drive. :> NP: In Your Eyes by The Weeknd
Huang Renjun
Renjun loves the beach even during night. So late night drives with him will be beside the beach. The long road alongside the beach is empty and wide, a perfect route for him to drive while the windows are rolled down, feeling the cold breeze of the summer. You'll feel the air brushing your hair while Renjun only smiles as he stares at you lovingly. <3 NP: About You by The 1975
Lee Jeno
HEAR ME OUT. Jeno's driving a big bike!!! SCREAMS. He's just a big bike type of guy. He wants to feel your arms wrapped around his body as he drives you around the town side. It's quiet and serene and you could only stare the view that you two passed by. Probably stops and parks over a hidden spot he found, and you two just stay there for a while to rest and eat the snacks that he packed on his compartment. NP: Ride or Die by Kai
Lee Donghyuck
Just like Renjun, long drives with Haechan are by the beach. It'll be quiet, and you two can hear the ocean waves crashing down. Haechan would be the type to hold your hands while driving and when he finds an empty spot on the baywalk, he'll parked there for a few minute. You two just sat there and listen to music, talk maybe, would even makeout if things get heated up lol. NP: Stay Up by Baekhyun, Beenzino
Na Jaemin
Long drives with Jaemin would be in the city too. It's a karaoke type of long drive! You'll have the aux by yourself but when Jaemin tells you to put a song to a queue, you'll happily oblige to it. The songs are random! It'll be k-pop songs with a bit of dancing, and then the next thing, you two are belting out a 90s love song, then if it becomes a soft ballad, you can hear Jaemin humming to it. He's also the type to hold you hands and just kisses it randomly. NP: Telepatia by Kali Uchis
Zhong Chenle
Long drives with Chenle will also be around the city but more of the highway part of the city. A bit of the outskirts because he wanted to drive longer (probably would go to the neighboring city if he wants to.) BUT long drives with Chenle is more of stopping over at stop overs along the highway to chill around there. You two will buy burgers and probably seat inside the car, just munching and would talk about life! It's a sentimental and intimate type of night! <3 NP: Lucky Strike by Troye Sivan.
Park Jisung
Your long drive at night with Jisung would be in the outskirts of the town! The view are just empty lots but adventure awaits you two even though you two have memorized the route already. You two would reminisce about life while driving around. It'll be about when you two first met! You two would laugh how awkward teens you two are back then and just realized how much you two have grown. NP: Stargazing by The Neighbourhood.

[Tales from the Pack] Jeonghan: Sold (Part Five)
Tumblr media
Characters: Jeonghan x female reader
Genre/warnings: werewolf au, fantasy, fluff, angst, reader is referred to as ‘blue’, mentions of death, mentions of human trafficking, lots of mentions of abuse, reader's been through the wringer lmao
Word count: 4,559
Summary: If Jooyeon and Baekhyun never went snooping around the black market, they would’ve never discovered the human trafficking ring and wanted to help. They would’ve never discovered you inside one of the many cages full of people, and Jeonghan would’ve never went against the alphas and demanded they help. But for you, Jeonghan would do anything, even if it means bringing back trouble from a past he never knew about.
Previous | Next | Sold Masterlist
He felt guilty metaphorically keeping you caged up at the house, but Jeonghan wasn’t taking any risks with you. The market was off limits for you – no exceptions. Maybe he could find one in a different region of the Capitol, but at that point, it seemed basically pointless to even go because of how long the trek would be.
However, you seemed perfectly happy as is. You loved going outside and watching his brothers chop wood or weed the garden, or whatever their chores for the day were.
“Why don’t you pull your weight, Hannie?” Mingyu would call, shirtless and sunburnt with sweat dripping down his skin as he stood upright with an ax in one hand.
Jeonghan would stay standing in his spot behind you, his arms around your waist – you learned he was very touchy, but it made you feel safer somehow – as he watched his brothers with a shit-eating grin, “No, I have to look after Blue.”
Even though you said you were fine with the name Blue, Jeonghan kept trying to think of a new name for you. He didn’t want to have Blue stick with you because he felt like it would just keep that awful part of your life attached to you. He was going to give you a better, happier life, and Blue would be left behind with it.
However, Jeonghan still didn’t have any answers about your past. He didn’t want to ask too many questions, but he wanted to know everything about you. Not just because he wanted to get to the bottom of this strange fear of yours, but just because he really did want to know everything about you.
Meanwhile, you were always hyper aware of your surroundings now knowing that you lived in a house with a bunch of humans. All of the humans appeared to be female, so you thought that maybe you’d stand a chance if you had to fight one off. But Jeonghan was always by your side, and had already promised you that he was significantly stronger than any human. Wonwoo had handed you a thick, old, leather book with a soft smile. He told you there was a whole section on werewolves that you could read about, so you were working on that. It did confirm, though, that Jeonghan’s promise was true.
One of the humans – an intimidating-looking girl with short, dark hair – seemed all too eager to volunteer to fight Seungcheol as proof, but he tiredly sighed and shooed her away.
Still, you stayed on your guard.
There was one girl that kept walking up to you and striking up a conversation. Jeonghan said her name was Jiaying, but everyone just called her Jia. He said she was half werewolf, but appeared mostly human other than her ability to find her way into people’s dreams. You had yet to decide if you trusted her, but so far, she was nice.
Did you think she could still turn on you in a second? Yes.
…Until you realized she was blind.
Despite your mixed feelings toward Jia, you still felt uncomfortable around so many humans. So you didn’t mind that Jeonghan took you outside often. He never brought you anywhere toward civilization, but you still enjoyed it. In the few days you’d been there, he’d brought you on little walks through the woods, had taken you to see streams where a couple of his brothers that would tag along would fish, a few clearings, and he even brought you to a waterfall that was absolutely breathtaking. You both figured that the less time you spent indoors was for the better – but for different reasons.
But that was why Jeonghan should’ve expected that he’d wake up one morning to an empty bed. He’d slept so soundly beside you that he didn’t even feel you get up, so he was immediately in a panic despite sensing no danger.
“Where’s your–” Jihoon didn’t even get to finish his sentence when he saw Jeonghan sprinting down the stairs, before the taller wolf was racing out the front door, barefoot.
“Y’know, if he stopped for a second, I could’ve told him where she was,” Junhui mentioned casually as he poured himself another cup of tea.
Jihoon simply shrugged, not bothering to go after his brother, “Eh, he’ll find her.”
Sprinting, Jeonghan followed the pull to you. He ran through the forest, easily ducking and dodging and pushing passed branches and twigs. He didn’t care if he didn’t sense danger. You were missing. That was dangerous enough to him.
After what felt like forever to him, – it was only a few minutes – he could finally see some light through the trees. It was a clearing he had brought you to before. It was mostly just tall grass there, but there were a few little groups of yellow, blue, and purple flowers here and there. But he still couldn’t see you.
He broke through the trees into the clearing, and he paused to take in his surroundings and really see if he could find any visual clue as to where you went. But that was when he saw you.
Toward the middle of the clearing, Jeonghan could see someone lying face-up in the grass. He could just barely make out the highest points of your body over the grass, and he let out a sigh of relief. And as much as he wanted to scold you for doing that to him, he forced himself to remember that you were stuck in a house with something you were afraid of, and you didn’t really have anywhere else to go to get away from it.
Plus, it had only been a few days, so now really wasn’t the time to start scolding you. Maybe later on in the relationship he would start nagging you a bit more.
You saw him out of the corner of your eye as he walked up to you. You were watching the clouds slowly roll by in the sky, and you only glanced over at him before going back to the clouds.
You really appreciated Jeonghan. You felt a weird connection to him ever since you first laid eyes on him, but he had really shown you over the last few days that you could trust him. He made you feel safe, and those odd feelings you felt before were only getting stronger. You didn’t know what you’d do without him. You owed your entire life to him because if it weren’t for him, you probably would be dead or who knows where.
He sat down in the grass beside you. He had looked you over quickly before he sat down just to make sure you were completely unharmed, but once he realized you were, he felt like he could relax.
What a way to wake up, he thought.
“Why’d you leave so early?” he decided to ask, wanting to whine about how you didn’t tell him but figuring that might come across as a bit too controlling – especially considering where you were only a few days prior.
“I’m not stuck in a cage anymore,” you sighed peacefully, letting your eyes close as the sun warmed your skin. “I’m enjoying every minute of my freedom that I can. That, and…the human thing.”
He nodded with a chuckle of his own, “Right. Well, I’m glad you can stretch your legs now.”
He laid back, looking up at the sky with you. He suddenly felt your fingers wiggle under his hand and wrap around it, so he did the same, his heart fluttering. A content rumble came from his chest, and he heard you giggle. You definitely heard that.
“How do you feel lately?” he wondered, still looking at the sky. “Better than before, I hope.”
“Still a little scared, but…I feel safe with you,” you decided to admit.
A soft smile spread across his face, “I love to hear that. I only want you to feel safe.”
A nice silence fell between the two of you as you just enjoyed each other's company and how nice it felt to hold hands. You just liked being close to Jeonghan, and you hoped he felt the same. He must’ve if he was around you all the time, right?
“Can I ask something?”
Your eyes opened to look over at Jeonghan, “Of course.”
If he made you feel safe, maybe now was a good time to ask about your fear. Maybe he could get some more information on you and where you came from.
“This might be a little silly to ask, but…if you are a human, why are you afraid of them?” he asked slowly, turning his head to meet your eyes.
Your eyes focused on the grass the the small flowers speckled between the two of you instead, your thumb nervously rubbing over Jeonghan’s skin as you let out a soft sigh, “I guess it does seem silly…since…none of you seem to be afraid…”
“It’s not silly, darling,” he promised you. “We all just want to understand so maybe we can help. But don’t talk about it if you’re not comfortable.”
Something about Jeonghan calling you the pet name made your heart flutter. Nobody had ever called you a sweet name like that. But because you weren’t looking at him, you wouldn’t see the small smile that spread on his face because he heard your heartbeat change.
“Obviously, I was born to humans,” you began after a moment of wondering how exactly to explain everything when you didn’t quite know everything yourself. “I don’t know much about my mom because she died when I was a baby, but my dad was the one who killed her.”
You heard a soft gasp leave Jeonghan’s mouth, and you glanced up to see shock on his face, but he quickly tried to compose himself. You continued regardless.
“Nobody knows why he did it. So I was sent to a children’s home since he went to prison. I don’t remember much, but I don’t remember anyone really being nice to me. I was the youngest for a while, and some of the kids said the people who ran the home hated me because I couldn’t take care of myself for a long time. A lot of the kids there showed up at an age where they could be forced to be self-sufficient.”
“You were just a baby,” Jeonghan interjected, disgust in his voice. “How could someone run a children’s home and treat children that way?”
You scoffed, “You’d be surprised. So, yeah, they were just really mean people, and the kids were really mean.”
“Weren’t any of them nice?” he wondered. “There had to have been some kids who didn’t bother you. You weren’t the youngest forever, so maybe some of the younger kids didn’t bother you?”
“Some didn’t bother me, but I didn’t trust them. One girl was… I thought she was my friend, but then she started doing mean things to me with the others. She was always standing with them just staring at me and just…letting them do it.”
“But you got out eventually. You had said you were on the streets at one point.”
You nodded, “Yeah, you can only stay until you’re 18. The workers often reminded me they didn’t keep track of any of my information when I got there, so they didn’t know my name or my age. They just knew when it was around the 18 year mark and kicked me out. I only stayed because I at least had a roof and a bed. Then on the street, I had nothing, and strangers went out of their way to be mean to me. One person might toss me some change every now and then, but another would always steal it or beat me up for it, so it never really mattered. It didn’t matter if one person was kind because the majority would ruin it.”
Jeonghan was starting to get why you were so afraid of humans now. Your life seemed pretty horrible, and it was all because of ways humans treated you.
“And then one day, some grabbed me in the middle of the night and put something over my face,” you continued, “and then I just…woke up in a cage. And that was it.”
It took a couple beats of silence before Jeonghan breathed out a, “Wow…”
“Yeah…” you nodded slowly with a tight-lipped smile.
“I’m…so sorry,” he said softly.
You took a deep breath and let it out, looking down at your hand still intertwined with his, “One of the people in my cage used to say ‘everything happens for a reason’ and they’d repeat it all the time, over and over. I think I started to believe it.”
His eyebrows furrowed as he studied you. Why would you possibly think that? What could’ve been worth going through all of that.
“What do you mean?”
“Well… If I didn’t go through that, I wouldn’t have met you, I guess,” you mumbled shyly, suddenly feeling self conscious about the words coming out of your mouth. You weren’t sure you’d ever said anything so…mushy to someone.
And while Jeonghan didn’t necessarily agree that sort of abuse was worth it, he was too giddy from your words, and leaned over to press a soft kiss to your forehead.
“And the rest of your life will be the happiest life anyone has ever lived,” he promised. “I’ll make damn sure of it.”
-
“I found one.”
Jaemin’s head whipped around to see Sanghun entering the den, a small smirk on his face.
“Seems to be the only live one left,” he added on.
Most of the people in the cages were killed or succumbed to their injuries before the pack got there in the morning. But for the last few days, Jaemin’s pack had been tracking down any scent they could pick up, trying to find lost mates. Most leads went cold, trailing off into nothing as their scent had faded. Others led them to dead bodies that had dragged themselves into the woods before passing. But then, there was a scent that Sanghun had picked up on that wasn’t too far away from the market, and he would get strong whiffs of the scent in waves.
That led him straight to you.
“Who is it?” Jaemin asked.
Sanghun shrugged, “She doesn’t seem to know anything about herself. Doesn’t even know her own name. They just call her Blue.”
“Who’s ‘they’?” Haru asked with a scoff.
To that, Sanghun’s smirk widened, “Oh, you guys are gonna love this.”
That piqued the other four’s interest, all golden eyes on the second oldest now.
“Looks like some other wolf imprinted on her.”
Their eyes widened, excitement on their faces. They loved nothing if not a challenge.
“There’s another surprise, but I’ll let you see that one for yourself, Jae,” he continued. “I think you’ll need to step in to lure this one in.”
-
“What’re you guys doing here?”
Cooper opened the door to Chris, Minho, and Jisung. The latter looked absolutely horrified, like he’d seen something one would only see in their nightmares. Minho seemed mildly concerned, while their alpha looked tired but still a bit worried. It gave Cooper a weird feeling in her stomach that she didn’t like.
“Where’s Blue?” was the first thing out of Chris’s mouth.
Cooper’s eyes widened as she slowly asked, “Why…?”
“Don’t be anxious,” Minho sighed. “If you start acting anxious, his’ll get worse.”
He gestured to the youngest of the trio, who glanced wide-eyed between him and the female wolf in the doorway.
“Can we come in and talk?” Chris asked. “There’s something…concerning we think everyone should know about.”
“Yeah, of course,” Seungcheol appeared from behind Cooper, gesturing for the three to come inside.
The beginning of the conversation already had some of the pack coming to see what was going on, but Chris’s question had the rest of them gathering in the living room where Seungcheol had decided to bring them for this debriefing. Some of the mates followed and gathered with the rest of the pack, while others were either napping or decided to decline the invitation. They were sure they’d hear about it later, anyway.
“Okay, now,” Chris began calmly, “before anyone–”
“We think the pack found us!” Jisung blurted.
Minho rolled his eyes, and Chris let out a sigh.
Seungcheol’s pack seemed confused by what he meant until Seungkwan asked, “Wait, the one Blue was sold to?”
“We don’t think they found any of us,” Minho quickly clarified. “We think they found out the mates are missing.”
“How would you know that?” Jihoon asked, eyes narrowed as he studied the younger pack.
“Because some of us like to go places we shouldn’t be going,” Chris said pointedly.
“We were in the area,” Minho clarified. “Obviously, we were curious, so we made 100% sure that nobody was around. We were safe. Don’t blow a gasket, old man.”
Chris put his tongue in his cheek but said nothing, eyes rolling instead.
“The place was totally ransacked,” Jisung continued. “They offed the rest of the guards, and it was obvious what kind of creature had done it. Plus the place just reeked of werewolf. So they’re definitely pissed.”
“We need to get Blue back here,” Soonyoung stated, suddenly sitting up from where he was leaning against the doorway, arms uncrossing as he looked to see if anyone else was as worried as he was. “We have to tell Jeonghan.”
“Soonyoung, I get the urgency, but–”
“There’s no but!” Soonyoung exploded, cutting off Seungcheol. “Those wolves could be out there right now and it’s her and Jeonghan versus who knows how many!”
“But,” the eldest alpha continued like nothing had happened, “Blue’s been caged up for who knows how long. Let her enjoy the last of her freedom for today, okay? Jeonghan’s always on hyper-alert with her. He knows the situation well enough. We’ll set a curfew after they get back, but just let them stay out for now.”
The room suddenly went from a calm meeting, to chaos. Everyone ducked their heads and covered their ears, sharp pain going straight to their eardrums. It felt like everything was shaking from how loud the shriek was. They were pretty sure they heard a second scream that was much less awful but still loud.
After a moment, it was silent except for whoever was still screaming. Jisung’s shriek cut off just a second after, his eyes opening wide after being squeezed shut.
“What the fuck!” he exclaimed.
“I think that’s our cue to go the fuck home,” Minho said, standing up.
But Seungkwan had already booked it out of the room and straight to the stairs. Jiwoo could be heard crying from Danbi and Mingyu’s bedroom, with a groggy Danbi trying to soothe her.
“Excuse me,” Seungcheol said as he stood and followed Seungkwan.
“If that’s not a sign to go find them, I don’t know what is!” Soonyoung shouted as he followed after him.
Seungcheol found Seungkwan already in Eunjin’s room, sitting on the bed beside her while she sat up straight, staring wide-eyed across the room.
“What was it?” he asked her softly, arms around her as he gently rubbed her arms up and down. “Take your time, okay?”
“Someone… A woman…” she mumbled, eyebrows starting to furrow as she slowly came back to the current plane. “She’s been around, but…she's getting more…aggressive.”
“Aggressive how?” Seungkwan wondered.
“She’s crying harder,” she told him. “She’s crying for her baby.”
The two alphas – who had been joined by Seokmin, Jihoon, and the three visiting wolves that Jihoon had invited up – looked around at each other, wondering what that could mean. The only baby in the house was Jiwoo, but she was a toddler now, and her mother was very much alive and well.
“Alright, who has dead parents that cared about them? Because it’s definitely not mine,” Soonyoung asked, looking around at everyone in the room. “So I’m safe. Rest in peace to whoever–”
“Shut up,” Jihoon grumbled, whacking him in the stomach to shut him up.
“Do you really think that’s what it is?” Seokmin wondered slowly, sounding a little worried.
“Soonyoung, go outside and do something,” Seungcheol told him. “Wait for Blue and Hannie to come back.”
Still clutching his stomach, Soonyoung walked out of the room, grumbling profanities toward Jihoon for hitting him.
While the rest of the pack tried to think of what the significance of this ghost woman could mean, Minho tried to lighten the mood and Jisung’s anxiety by smiling, lightly jabbing him in the arm and saying, “Hey, well we’re both probably safe, right?”
-
You and Jeonghan spent most of the morning in the field, up until he heard your stomach growling. He squinted up at the sun, blocking the brightness of it with his hand as he let out a sigh.
“It’s about lunchtime,” he noted. “We should head back.”
You got up without complaint, rejoining hands once you were both standing, and walked leisurely back to the house.
The two of you just did a lot of talking. After your little backstory, Jeonghan questioned your relationship with Saoirse, wondering if it was a friendship. When you explained it was more that she was just the nicest one out of all the humans there, Jeonghan then questioned if you were upset by her death if you weren’t really friends at all. That was something you couldn’t stop thinking about now. Were you upset about losing an almost-friend, or were you just uneasy knowing that someone you knew had died?
Jeonghan kept your mind occupied on the walk, though. He talked about different flowers, berries, and plants you passed, teaching you about them “just in case” as he had said.
“All the mates know survival things, for the most part,” he explained with a shrug. “Obviously, Jia wouldn’t really know how to tell things apart. And we’ve tried to teach Eunjin, but her mind is…hard to keep on track.”
Jeonghan had already gone over who the girls were. He knew you knew Kyung and Cooper were werewolves, and that Ari was a werecoyote so you trusted them. He could tell you were less wary around Jia simply for the fact she couldn’t see. You’d also shot up in bed a couple times saying you dreamt of her, but Jeonghan asked her to cool it with that because it seemed to make you more tense than anything, wondering why she then came up to you the morning after the first time it happened saying, “Wow, you’re really pretty, Blue.”
He told you Danbi was Wonwoo’s sister, insisting that basically meant she was like a werewolf without being one. Soomin was a ‘sort-of’ witch, so you shouldn’t worry about her, either. Yeji was some sort of hybrid, but he intentionally left out the curse part. Eunjin was obviously a banshee, so that’s technically not human. Jooyeon was a thief, so to others in town, she was actually considered a parasite rather than a human, and Suvi was just a harmless kid.
You knew he was reaching, but you always let him babble about them to try and convince you not to be afraid, anyway.
Once you’d reached the house after your little survival lesson, you saw the back door open. Seungcheol was standing there, waiting for the two of you with his arms crossed. To you, it seemed like he was mad. You wondered if he was upset with you for leaving without telling Jeonghan.
But with Jeonghan’s heightened senses, he could see how worried Seungcheol looked. Whatever he was going to say, it wasn’t good.
“Blue, why don’t you go with Cooper to the dining room for lunch?” he suggested with Cooper already on standby, waiting for you. “I need to talk to Jeonghan quickly, and I don’t want you to miss out on first call for the mates.”
You looked at Jeonghan, then at Cooper. You knew she wasn’t necessarily the bravest out of the werewolves, so you didn’t feel quite comfortable having her be the one to guard you while Jeonghan was busy.
“Can I go with Kyung instead?” you asked.
Cooper’s cheeks turned pink as she vanished from in front of you, and you heard Seungcheol sigh in annoyance.
Instead of looking at you, Jeonghan shot Seungcheol a sharp look as he opened his mouth. But he was cut off by someone else.
“I got it,” Soonyoung said, still offering you a friendly smile despite what happened with his mate. “C’mon, Gyu made stir fry.”
You decided Soonyoung was safe to go with since Jeonghan had told you he was an alpha, so you walked with him to go get lunch. You sat between him and an empty chair, with Suvi on the other side of the empty chair, but you decided not to make much of a fuss this time because you didn’t want to upset the humans.
Soonyoung put a plate in front of the empty space on his other side before he placed one in front of you with a smile. Once all the mates had food, then the boys dug in and grabbed their own servings. Multiple times, someone would mention to leave enough for Seungcheol and Jeonghan, and Minghao even had to take some from Mingyu’s plate once to put back on the serving platter for the two missing wolves.
About halfway through lunch, the two walked in. Jeonghan sat beside you in the empty seat, but you began to get worried maybe there was a ghost there because Soonyoung seemed to be hugging and holding hands with something that wasn’t beside him as he picked from their plate.
You didn’t ask about his conversation at the table. You waited until he brought you to the backyard to get started on his chores to ask.
“I don’t know how to tell you this…” he began slowly.
Your stomach sank, and he could tell how worried you got.
“There’ll be a few…restrictions now,” he told you.
“Like what?”
“You can’t...really…go wherever you want anymore. You should stick close to the house. And you can’t stay out for too long, or too late. And you should always be with one of the wolves, okay?”
When he looked at you, he looked almost pained to tell you. He looked sorry. You weren’t sure why. You didn’t even know why he was worried to tell you that. It wasn’t even anything bad.
You just shrugged, “Okay.”
He looked surprised, “Are you sure? I don’t want to tell you what to do, but it might not be safe considering everything.”
You scoffed, “This is still way better than where I was before.”
“Someday things will be easier, and you can do whatever you want and go wherever you want,” he smiled. “Promise.”
“You sure promise me a lot of things in the future,” you joked.
“Yeah, because youll still be stuck with me then,” he grinned as he wrapped his arms around your torso, holding you to him like he was trying to hold you captive, but his grip was far too light.
“That sounds more like a threat than a promise,” you laughed.
“Some consider it both.”

Chapter 1: Depth of Field
The sun warmed Baekhyun’s skin against the cold breeze that weaved through the tall grass. It was turning golden, creating the perfect lighting for him to catch through his lens. The puttering of an old truck broke the stillness as it made its way on the road behind him, but he kept his focus on the camera. He was so focused that he didn’t notice the puttering had stopped.
“You okay?”
He jumped with a yelp at the sudden voice and spun around to find that the truck had come to a stop and its driver was addressing him. The light of the setting sun was blocking his view of the woman’s features, but he could tell she was young by her voice.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you. Do you need help?” she asked with a giggle that tinkled like soft bells.
“I’m okay,” he responded, the Russian still awkward in his mouth. “Just catching some photos before the sun goes down.”
“Would you like a ride back to town?” she asked. “It’s quite a walk.”
“I’m going to be taking photos for a while, but thank you,” Baekhyun said and started to turn back to the scene he was capturing.
“I don’t mind waiting,” the woman said. “I’d hate to leave someone alone on these roads after dark. They’re not the safest.”
“It could be a while,” he said, turning back to her again.
“My evening is free.”
“Well…” he thought for a second. Walking back in the dark was not the most ideal situation. “Okay,” he finally conceded. “I’ll buy you dinner as a thank you.”
“I’d never refuse a free meal,” she said with a chuckle.
He smiled at her honest response and then turned back to the scenery that was quickly changing with the sun’s descent. Faster than he anticipated, the sun was gone and he rushed to pack his gear in the lack of light, then made his way carefully through the tall grass to the road where the truck still waited.
The young woman was now hidden in the heavy shadows of twilight, but she noticed him coming before he had even left the brush.
“All done?” she asked, leaning across the truck to open his door from inside.
“Yep,” he responded as he finally made it to the asphalt. “Where can I put my gear?”
“There isn't much room in the cabin, unfortunately, but you can get in here what will fit and place the rest in the bed if you’re okay with that.”
“Better than lugging it back to town on foot,” he said. He placed his camera bag on the floor then took his tripod to the back and placed it in the truck bed as securely as possible. When he climbed into the front she started the vehicle and then held her hand out to him.
“My name’s Lara,” she said and he took her hand.
“Baekhyun,” he said after a second of hesitation.
“Korean?” she asked with surprise, her grip tightening as she pulled him closer.
He nodded, trying to pull back.
“Oh, sorry,” she said, letting go and switching to Korean. “I got excited. There aren’t really many Koreans in the surrounding towns.
The language change surprised him and he noted the lack of accent. “Are you Korean as well?”
“On my mom’s side,” she said, then put the truck in gear and started driving. “Spoke both Korean and Russian growing up, so I’m fluent in both. Your Russian is pretty good, but I can tell it’s not a natural language for you. How long have you lived here? Must be fairly new if I hadn’t heard about you yet. Word about newcomers travels pretty fast around here.”
“I haven’t been around long,” he said, adjusting in his seat as he tried to come up with answers. “I travel a lot and liked some of the scenery in the area so I thought I’d stick around for a bit.”
“Do you work for a magazine, or…?”
“Just freelance,” he responded when she trailed off. “I’ll send shots to magazine companies sometimes and find random requests online to fulfill. I’d like to set up a studio someday though if I can ever settle down.”
“Wanderlust?”
“Something like that. Nowhere really feels like home.” He shifted again and coughed. “What about you?”
“I can’t really seem to escape the small-town life,” she said with a shrug. “Moved away from home, but only made it a few towns over. I didn’t really have any grand plans, just wanted to see how I would do on my own.”
“Sounds grand to me,” Baekhyun said with a smile. “Where do you work?”
“The little bakery on the east end at the corner. I was just coming back from a delivery to the next town over.”
“I’ve been meaning to go in there. What do you recommend?”
“We’ve got some pretty good muffins,” she said. “But they’re my specialty so I might be biased.”
“I happen to really like muffins,” he said. “I’ll have to give them a try.”
They continued to chat casually as they bounced down the road. Stars became more and more visible as the light continued to fade in the horizon and the homesickness that Baekhyun had been struggling with lightened slightly at the familiar language and constant chatter.

Prologue, Part 1, Part 2, Part 3

Finally, a letter from her beloved. Finally, after months of busyness and silence, she finally received an invitation to visit him. Baekhyun’s letters reached the Lady countless times, words of longing and contempt over their distance. And each and every word made Vivian want to run to him, to tell him everything, to embrace him and beg forgiveness for her months of silence. Her fingertips grazed over his lovely writing and released the ache in her chest into a soft hum. As much as she missed him, she knew she needed to keep on edge and that would be a difficult task when Baekhyun knew how to break down all of her walls. When everything he did left Vivian feeling like a puddle on the ground.
She would need Eloise’s support in keeping their secret. They’d done the thing her prince had told her not to do.
“No, absolutely not.” One of the rare instances where she saw genuine anger behind those black eyes. “How could you give up that much time to that woman?”
“Baekhyun, that woman saved my life. She’s the only reason I’m in front of you right now.” She was practically yelling at him and she could see the hurt takeover his face. With a steady breath, she lowered her tone, willing herself to calm down, “I can’t just let her die, especially when I have so much time to give.”
His eyebrows furrowed and his frown deepened. Vivian hated it. “So much to give? What about your time with me? Is it worthless to you?” Worthless? Her time with him was the most valuable thing in the world. Did he not see how important this was to warrant such a thing? He sat on the mattress where he’d made love to her the night before. When he had that smile plastered on his gorgeous face and the love in his eyes as he stared only at her. Her fingertips traced his cheeks as she leaned onto her knees in front of him, willing him to stare into her eyes just as he had the night before.
“My love,” she begged, “I need to save her. Please.”
That argument happened nearly a year prior and after being far too persistent she finally convinced him to meet with her closest friend. Vivian was certain that when they met he would finally realize how important it was to have Eloise in her life. “Please try to get along with her. Ellie is the closest thing I have to a sister.”
“Only for you,” was his response and yet his efforts were obvious to the lady, though the maid didn’t seem interested even as he tried to break down every wall that divided them. Eloise had always been kind and formal with everyone other than Vivian. She knew that was the way Ellie had always been, but even still, she desperately wanted her beloved and closest friend to get along with one another.
Despite the Transferring having occurred months ago, the noble couldn’t help but still wonder if Baekhyun’s prayers were the cause of the error with the procedure. His energy always had a magic within it so it couldn’t have been that far out of the range of possibility. Another deep grounding breath and she finally packed up the sweet letter along with her most valuable possessions into her smallest case.
A voice rang out from behind the door along with a soft knock, “My lady, The Duke has requested that you join him for breakfast this morning.”
“Alright, I’ll be right there.” This was fortunate timing, she’d be able to tell Kyungsoo about their change of plans. Surely he wouldn’t mind, they’d already taken away so much of his time. Kyungsoo always had so much to do, she wasn’t surprised that upon hearing of their departure he took the opportunity to return to it. The day was busy and passed quickly as a result, but Vivian kept contemplating everything that had happened. Ellie had lost most of her memories, which didn’t seem to be returning, but it was nice to see her returning to some semblance of normalcy. Perhaps since her lover and her maiden were not that close to begin with he wouldn’t notice the changes in her.
Baekhyun didn’t even know when Eloise’s last day would be, there was no way for him to know the procedure had already taken place. So it bought Vivian time to come up with the right way to tell him about it, but she knew for a fact that the news needed to come from her lips. If her prince heard about it from anyone else… She feared his reaction.
“It’ll be okay.” She reminded herself in a soft huff, smoothing her hands over the front of her gown. Eloise’s presence in the carriage made the trip bearable. Most of her stresses were successfully smothered by the time they arrive to her lover’s castle.
The lavish display was normal for Baekhyun, and the way his eyes instantly locked with hers, the utter adoration is his gaze. He was her everything, her very breath and the reason her blood flowed under her skin. The world disappeared, only his smile, his warmth in the fingertips that reached for her and held on for dear life. It had been so long she thought her soul would shatter in his absence. She longed to embrace him and never let go. “My love,” she breathed out, holding his hand just as tightly between both of hers, “it’s been so long, I’m glad to see you.”
“Why haven’t you responded to any of my letters? Did they not reach you?” His pout made her chuckle, just a second ago he was acting like a god on top of the world, and now he was complaining like that, with the press together of his pretty pink lips and the furrow of his eyebrows.
Vivian wanted to press her thumb against the little wrinkle and a small kiss to his lips. “I’m sorry, my love,” she was sure he could sense the teasing in her tone with the way his head tilted to get a better look at her, “Kyungsoo invited me to visit. I thought it would be a good opportunity for Eloise and I to get away for a little while.” His pout deepened at the mention of the other man and she tried to bite back her smile, leaning in a little closer to her lover, “So please don’t be mad, okay?” The softest huff left his chest followed by a rather dramatic sigh.
“You did enjoy your stay with The Duke?” his tone slightly mocking the title but Vivian knew that her lover adored the man just as much as she did.
“I did. It was a pleasant trip.” Now that she had her dose of the prince and was able to think clearly for a moment she risked a glance at Eloise who was a solid two meters away. Baekhyun followed her gaze and he made a small sound of confusion, a thousand thoughts flashing behind his eyes and Vivian feared her betrothed was noticing something in her maid’s demeanor.
He called out to her, using the nickname Vivian called her by. The nickname she had given him permission to use. The name he used when he tried to befriend Eloise. Vivian knew that. She knew that, but still hearing the casual words, the seriousness behind his tongue. It felt foreign. He noticed something.
He called to her again and this time Vivian silently urged her to act normal. This was okay. But Eloise’s silence was deafening. Those amber eyes downturned and the same look of surprise she had when they met with Kyungsoo. Luckily there were no tears this time, but Vivian made a mental note to talk with her when they had a chance. She needed to know what was going on inside her maiden’s brain.
The walk was long and uncomfortably awkward as they made their way to a parlor room, one that had seen a major renovation. “Wow, Baekhyun, this is incredible.” His contagious smile lit up his face and he took a seat on a gold accented couch, he patted the spot next to him but Vivian knew better than to be that close with Eloise in the room. She shot a little crunch in her nose as she sat across from him. Those black eyes and that knowing smirk on his lips left her breathless.
“We’re so behind on wedding plans, I hope you know.” Vivian almost believed him. Baekhyun loved to tease but he would never actually let anything for her fall behind schedule.
“I see,” she hummed, “this is quite serious. We really must do something about it.”
He leaned onto his knees and the look on his face told Vivian she was about to regret playing along. “I can think of a few things, Princess.” She shot him a warning. Now was not the time or place for his shameless flirting. Not when Eloise was in the room with them. The prince hummed in amusement before shifting his attention back to the woman he wasn’t supposed to be ignoring this way. In the silence they heard the way her breath came out in short huffs, Eloise’s knuckles had gone white from how tightly she held onto her skirt. Was she afraid? Perhaps it was unfair of Vivian to ask such a thing from Ellie.
His seriousness was back as he tried to get the maiden to speak again and Vivian’s heart sank. This was getting too close for comfort, if she was going to step in, it should be now before he realized anything more. “She’s been having a hard week, my love,” she tried to keep her voice as light hearted as possible, “Perhaps we should let her rest.” It wasn’t a lie so she had no reason to feel afraid, yet the seriousness behind his eyes, the slight jut of his jaw and the bob of his Adam’s apple with that forced swallow. It all had her trembling. He needed to agree. Eloise needed to step away before their secret was revealed.
Much to her relief he did. Whatever the prince had noticed, he didn’t mention it even after the maid had left them. This was the first time Vivian felt uncomfortable alone with her beloved. The nerves slammed against every bone in her body, and she smothered the feeling the instant it arose in her. “A hard week?”
“You know how straightforward Kyungsoo can be,” she was lying through her teeth and it tasted like spoiled milk on her tongue. It felt so wrong but she knew better than to admit wrongdoing. He knew. He knew she was lying and the scornful downturn of his lips left her biting her own.
“Vivian.” He used her real name. He was upset. He knew.
She masked her worry with a light hearted brush off, “I brought you gifts from our visit. We should open them.”
“Vivian,” he started again, “What happened?”
“What do you mean? The gifts? It’s been so long since I saw you, you were on my mind the entire—“
“Vivian.” He stood and in an instant he was looming over her, the anger roaring off of him in waves. He knew. It was irrefutable at this point and Viv closed her eyes, a defeated sigh leaving her lips.
“I told you,” she hadn’t done anything to be ashamed of, it was her body, her life line, her family, “I needed to save her.” No matter what he did, Vivian held onto the knowledge that he loved her. He would never hurt her. Baekhyun was silent and she saw as the anger slowly disappear behind his eyes, she watched as he sank to his knees in front of her exactly as she had done the last time they talked about this exact situation. No words were spoken as he reached for her hand, tracing those beautiful fingertips over the mark on her wrist. The ‘96’ previously edged into her skin was replaced by ‘66’ and his eyebrows dug together in pain. “My love,” she reached for his face, searching for his eyes, “It’s alright. I’m alright. I’m here, I’m alive. And that time is yours, I promise.”
After what felt like an eternity he finally let out a sound, a small breath that told her Baekhyun believed her. He trusted her and he leaned back onto his heels from his spot on the ground. “And Eloise?”
Eloise. She was different, that much was clear to everyone involved. “She,” the words got stuck in a lump at the back of her throat, “She lost her memories.” The warmth of his palm against her cheek comforted her and Vivian leaned into his touch.
“I’m sorry.” It was genuine. He felt remorse for the impossible choice he had forced her to make.
“It’ll be alright.” The same line she’d been repeating to herself for months, willing her mind to believe the words. “This is an opportunity to give her a good life. She’s worked so hard her whole life, taking care of me. It’s time I do the same for her.” His eyes lowered once more and Vivian lifted his chin, needing him to know how important this was. “I can only do that if you’re by my side. I’m stronger when you’re with me.”
He searched her gaze for a moment, licking his lips and swallowing down whatever words he wanted to say. A small nod of his head and he leaned up to kiss her, relishing in the softness of his lips against her own and her fingertips sought the feathery hair at the nape of his neck. It had been so long since she felt his warmth, the sweet love that melted from his tongue and the press of his forehead against her own. “I’m here. I’ll always be by your side.” His reassurance swelled in her chest and the relief exploded through her, her smile came naturally for the first time in months. They spent most of the day together, making up for lost time in any way they could, but Vivian knew she needed to talk to Eloise tonight.
Somehow, by the grace of some god, she managed to convince her lover to leave her alone. Surely he’d gone to bed already. Surely after the near hour she waited, the coast was clear. The need to hide her actions burrowed itself in her stomach, it felt wrong but necessary for some reason. The looming halls held no place to hide and she moved quickly, ducking around corners whenever she heard the echoes of sounds around her, and eventually Vivian arrived at her maiden’s hall. Only, she didn’t find the solidarity she anticipated, instead the prince stood at the entrance. Outwardly laughing and teasing the maiden. “You’re cute when you try to be serious.” The familiarity in his tone, the smile on his face, Vivian had never seen him react that way to anyone but her, and her heart sank. She could feel the shift in energy.
Their words blurred but Vivian could hear stifled whisper-yells from the maiden. The world around them felt heavy with infatuation and desire. And it was directed at Eloise. How could he do this to her? What had he done, exactly? And why did her chest feel like it was crumbling into a million pieces? She didn’t know how long she had stayed up against that wall. How long her mind stayed thoughtless, how long she recounted that moment in her brain. Warm hands held onto her arms, sturdy and safe, and amber eyes nervous and trembling.
“What the hell was that?” Eloise looked manic, pacing and pulling at her hair, “the prince was just here, did you see what happened?” She was speaking so fast, so agitated Vivian knew that her maiden wasn’t involved the way she initially thought. The silence was overwhelming, the pacing continued just as fast and Eloise was biting at her fingers, too engrossed in her own thoughts to say anything for far too long. Until, “I have to ask you a weird question, Vivie.” A deep breath and the maiden was sitting beside her, “Have,” holding her hands so tightly, “Have the prince and… me ever had moments like that before? Were he and I ever close?”
The look in her eyes. Not curiosity, desperation. As if her answer would mean the end of life itself. “Why are you…?” Of course they hadn’t ever been that close, Eloise didn’t… like Baekhyun’s advancements. She didn’t let him break down any walls, but she couldn’t remember him being so coy and direct, either. Had he always been that way? Vivian was trying to recall the moments when the efforts were made. It was superficial compliments and the simple nickname. Sweet smiles and courtesy he showed everyone. Where had this moment come from? But still, the fear in her maiden’s eyes was odd. As if it was so much bigger than Vivian could even comprehend.
“Vivian, I need you to listen to what I’m about to tell you,” she took a deep breath and steeled her gaze before continuing, “I’m not Eloise. I know what’s going to happen over the next year and you’re going to lose everything.”

WHAT A GREAT QUESTION, ANON! I have been wildly (and uncharacteristically for me, an ex omegaverse hater) obsessed with omegaverse Exos since I got into Exo, and my thoughts on them recently changed drastically, so what good timing you have!
I’ll first start with saying that I don’t like betas, and never include them in any thoughts about omegaverse. I just think they’re boring– though I do have friends who have managed to make them VERY interesting; I just think I don’t have anything insightful or interesting to say about them myself.
And for a second note, I think it’s important to describe what I think omegaverse is for really: because it has many meanings that change based on who’s writing in it. For me, omegaverse makes most sense as a formalization of power dynamics. One could make the argument that it’s inherently kinky (and in fact, I do). It’s less about inherent sexuality OR gender, and more about inherent power structures and how someone could play with them. This is not to say that interesting discussions can’t happen in omegaverse about sexuality or gender– because they absolutely can and do, but I think mostly, it’s about biological power, in a way that our actual society thinks exists and tries to enforce (violently and forcefully), that is actually made real via omegaverse.
For the Fandom Olds among us, this interpretation would not come as a surprise, considering omegaverse took the place of BDSM AUs in fandom!
A third note, all of my omegaverse content always and forever will be poly! Poly packs 5eva!!!
ANYWAY, EXOS!
[vibrates] they are pack, your honor…
Pack alpha: Minseok
Alphas: Junmyeon, Jongdae, Chanyeol, Kyungsoo
Omegas: Yixing, Baekhyun, Jongin, Sehunnie
Minseok:
As the oldest, and from the fact that Minseok in canon refused to be Exo-M’s leader, it just makes so much sense for him to be the pack alpha but not the band leader. He has the character of a supervisor dom. He’s not involved with everyone in the band and entangled with them– because, frankly, they are too loud and too messy, and he has no energy to deal with so many people needing his attention and involvement. But he is a steady presence that they can all depend on. He listens to their problems and pets them about them. He scruffs the alphas into place when necessary (and reassures them that even if they fuck up, he’ll be there to help), and spends time with the omegas when they need him, and makes sure that their needs are taken care of and that they don’t feel too lost in the pack.
I’m pretty sure that even in omegaverse, Minseok is queer, and he probably prefers alphas to omegas; less mess, and more satisfaction in bringing them to heel.
Naturally, the person he’s closest to in the pack is Jongdae, this is canon in any and all universes. They’re the gossip husbands, drinking late at night and talking about the rest of the band like two intensely invested aunties, but being steady and gentle with the others the rest of the time. They probably sleep together, but they’re definitely not monogamous, and as in canon, probably are both aware that Jongdae would actually like to settle down with a mate at some point.
Minseok spends the omegas’ heats with them if they want him to, as do all the alphas– because the Exos are all very very busy and alternate being with the omegas depending on their schedules. His favorite is probably Sehunnie though, because Sehun is whiny but pliant and obedient in heat; the rest are complicated (will get to them!)
Junmyeon:
I imagine him to be as neurotic in omegaverse as he is in canon. He’s a sadist and is terrified of this fact. He takes his job as leader so seriously that it fucks with his head and makes him make very strange personal decisions. He’s an alpha and a dom, but the fact that he’s so scared of his sadism makes him show his belly to his pack and try so hard to be gentle and soft that the overcorrection makes him seem awkward instead.
I think, if I were to transplant canon onto omegaverse, that Junmyeon did not overcorrect so hard until a while after debut; because at first he would punish the Exos for mistakes as harshly as a supervisor, and oooof that probably gave him such a headrush that it turned into kink for him IMMEDIATELY.
Junmeon is Like This in canon really, so what makes omegaverse so much worse for him is that it formalizes all the power dynamics in head in a way that makes it so easy to take advantage of. And he is so convinced the sadism makes him a bad person, that having omegas begging for him in heat, crying and in pain without him even having to do a single thing to them except be there, simply would take him to pieces. Just imagine canon Junmyeon with the power to bite someone and claim them biologically forever… the man wrote the Exos’ names on his damn body, he would lose his fucking mind!!!
Anyway, I think therefore, that Junmyeon is terrified MOST of Baekhyun and Yixing, the resident omega masochists in the band– and to an extent, Chanyeol, who is a masochist but not omega. So, I would imagine him being SO WEIRD with all three of them. Too strict and mean to Chanyeol, and so wary as to almost be avoidant of Yixing, and strangely both overprotective and overconfident in Baekhyun.
Hilariously, he and Sehun click very comfortably, because Sehun isn’t a masochist or a sub. He’s just very into being indulged and having things done for him and to him, and it makes him vibe enough like a sub that it’s hot, but not enough to terrify Junmyeon or cause him to have intense sadistic emotion about Sehun. This also means they’re not super compatible actually lmao, they’re just comfortable enough that they stick together.
I think Junmyeon and Minseok have an interesting relationship, where Minseok would like to be hyung and head alpha for Junmyeon but Junmyeon is too weird about being perceived to be submitting to anyone that whenever Minseok tries to support him, Junymeon just pretends to be Fine™ harder.
Generally though, Junmyeon is a good leader. He’s incredibly competent when it comes to the band’s relationships with management, and he’s incredibly protective and invested in the wellbeing of his pack members. All of his weirdness sort of impacts him internally, but it works to present him the way he desires his image to be externally.
Yixing:
[vibrates] He… the baby…
He’s an omega and a sub. He came into the band with much Trauma™ (familial, as in canon D: ), which made him need so much affection and love that it makes him seem hungry. He pushes himself so hard that it makes him ill often, and it makes it difficult to care about him, because to do so means people have to constantly love him and see him be hurt. He doesn’t have the instincts that lets him trust people to catch him if he falls, so he simply always feels that he’s on his own, even if he isn’t.
In omegaverse, he probably has very difficult heats. Trauma and hormone fuckery do not go well together in any universe, so his heats probably fuck with his emotions massively. And the fact that most of his injuries are spine-related, means that his pelvic floor is just fucked, and would mean his heats actually physically hurt!!!!
The emotional part means that during his heats, he clings so hard to the people next to him to make sure they don’t leave, that he leaves bruises and scratch marks. He probably cries and howls if any of the alphas get up to get him food because he’s scared they’re not coming back and that he’ll be abandoned. He probably wants to be mated and sobs when he isn’t, even though outside of heat he would know it would be a bad idea to mate.
The physical part means he’s in miserable (very unusual) pain throughout.
This makes it a large ordeal to deal with for the pack. Especially considering they are all so tired and so busy and barely have time to rest anyway. And the fact that they have a rotational system for alphas spending time with the in-heat omegas so they don’t miss schedules, which in Yixing’s case simply doesn’t work.
They do love him, but he’s difficult to help. It stresses everyone out and makes the alphas feels horrible and bad at their jobs.
Yixing probably gets on suppressants at some point and simply never comes off them, especially when he starts spending more time in China without any pack around :(
Outside of heat, he smells sweet and is comforting to be around. He’s so skin hungry that he’ll always want to cling to a pack member when they’re home, which they are only happy to do. And he’s good at being hyung to the younger members. He’s also massively good at his job as an artist, it just, you know, kills his body oops… TT
Being away from the pack does make everything worse for him, though. It’s a sore subject for Junmyeon and Minseok especially, that they let one of their pack omegas run off that way where they can’t help him at all. It makes everyone sad.
[Cake lies down on the floor] Yeah… Yixing…
Baekhyun:
He’s an omega, a sub, and a sadist (masochist too, fun combo!) Baekhyun is highly invested in being important to everyone. He wants to be loved so much that he wants to own all the Exos and be owned by all of them, but he’s very aware of how this sounds so he’s just privately insane about this, but publicly all jokey and fun, rather than deeply intense.
The fact that he’s a sadist makes him a strange omega for alphas. So, I bet Baekhyun enjoys being with the omegas most often– bet it almost makes him think he’s like Minseok, and likes omegas more than alphas; but that’s not true. What he really needs is an alpha who would put a hand on his neck and put him in his place but also lets him bite and scratch and be mean to them as well. He needs to sub for his health and well being, but he also needs to feel that it’s safe to sub by being allowed to do horrible things to his alpha/dom and feel like he has power in the relationship. Subbing is so so vulnerable for Baekhyun, it makes him terrified to his bones, but he also wants it really badly.
Anyway, as in canon lmao, Minseok finds Baekhyun too messy and difficult to deal with, so he just flirts and toys with him a little, and probably sleeps with Baekhyun during heats if he’s needed, but doesn’t really let Baekhyun in his bed outside of heat.
Chanyeol is too vulnerable to deal with Baekhyun’s barbed wire words and pointy claws, he takes it too personally, and Baekhyun has to be careful around him. Though when Baekhyun is careful, they’re good friends, and Baekhyun does enjoy sleeping with him and toying with him a little.
Sehunnie is probably Baekyun’s go-to for sex outside of heats (points to the unreal amounts of Baekhyun biting Sehun photos in canon.)
Junmyeon and and Baekhyun are insanely compatible but they have no idea. Junmyeon is terrified of being too much and hurting people but if he actually does hurt Baekhyun (sexy), Baekhyun would lose his goddamn mind. Because Baekhyun needs intensity most of all, he needs to feel like his partner is obsessed with him: and Junmyeon is the most intense person in this band.
Kyungsoo and Baekhyun probably have good sex, but Kyungsoo has absolutely no tollerance for Baekhyun trying to exercise power– which is hot! But you know, it doesn’t let Baekhyun relax entirely with him. It’s the same with Jongdae probably, except Jongdae is nicer about it.
Chanyeol:
He’s an alpha but he’s not interested in holding power over people, it makes him deeply uncomfortable. He’s not a dom, and not a sub, but he does enjoy power games when they’re meant to bring people closer together and build trust.
He frequently goes through periods of being super insecure about how he presents as an alpha, and trying to be more masc and domineering, but it only ever ends up making him feel worse. And during those periods, he often feels like going to the other alphas for help and support is a weakness and tries to do everything himself, including figuring out his own mental blocks– this almost never works.
He clashes with Junmyeon a lot, because he both wants Junmyeon’s attention and admiration and praise, and wants Junmyeon’s to see him as an alpha and respect his authority, and Junmyeon is, as stated before, WEIRD about power things!!!
Though Minseok knows how to be good to Chanyeol and often compensates where Junmyeon fails. So does Jongdae, though he spent a while not really understanding why Chanyeol is the way he is and why he struggles with the things he struggles with.
Kyungsoo’s steadiness and assuredness in himself makes him a good friend to Chanyeol. It helps to look to Kyungsoo when Chanyeol is in flux and feels like nothing is static enough to hold onto.
Sechan are like canon Sechan, naturally. They are weird about power dynamics together in a way that helps both of them. It makes Chanyeol feel at ease that he’s not holding any power via the fact that he’s alpha or hyung over Sehun, and it makes Sehun happy to feel like he holds Chanyeol’s leash and can make him do whatever he wants. What Sehun often wants Chanyeol to do though, is to take care of things for him: take care of food and buying things, and making sure Sehun is comfortable, to fuck Sehun well and not make Sehun do things, and to praise Sehun in front of other people and let Sehun bask in the fact that he’s getting everything he wants. All of this makes Chanyeol feel good and useful and like a good alpha! It’s great!
Jongdae:
He’s one of the people I hesitated for a very long time before assigning an omegaverse dynamic to. I eventually settled on alpha because he’s a caretaker and – although subtle– is actually a little bit of a control freak. He also finds too much contentment in, for example, calming Baekhyun down and making him behave, for him not to be some sort of flavor of dom.
He and Minseok fit well together because they both respect hierarchies a lot, and they respect inner pack workings. They also have the same casual but firm way that they approach their own internal moral compasses. They’re both stubborn and hard to convince to change, which makes them both comfortable, considering they are also both very influential and find it easy to change other people just by being around. They make each other feel safe to exercise the full breadth of their inherent power without the threat that this would affect the other in any way.
The fact that they are both doms, however, makes them incompatible long-term as sexual and romantic partners, even though they adore each other and probably do sleep together often. It’s a fact they are both aware of– though I am unsure if they both feel the axact same way about it. I change my mind often about this. Is Minseok sadder than Jongdae about this? Are they both just Fine? Don’t know. I’m not a Xiuchenist for real, but I do believe in them! So, I find myself thinking about this often.
Jongdae, like Minseok, finds Baekhyun too much to deal with. But he finds Junmyeon funny and gets less stressed out about the fact that Junmyeon won’t let him help than Minseok does. Because Jongdae isn’t the pack leader and he’s younger, he finds it easier to insert himself into Junmyeon’s business and meddle sometimes, without stepping to hard on Junmyeon’s toes.
He is soft with Yixing, and is sad for him, but Jongdae is very strict with himself about things which he cannot change, so he doesn’t let himself dwell on this often.
It took him a few years to understand Chanyeol’s little neuroses but he did eventually, so now he knows how to care for Chanyeol and that satisfies him greatly.
He’s generally very gentle and full of advice and pets for all younger and older pack members.
He has a stroke of sadism in him, but it’s not consuming like Junmyeon’s is, and he’s Normal about it. It’s very to do with sex for him, rather than his personality.
Kyungsoo:
He’s an alpha, and he’s possessive as fuck. He’s also a very sensible person, and has decided very early on that he will not be getting romantically involved with any of his members because they’re all insane and they’ll drive him out of his mind if he wants to go full possessive alpha on them!
He does think Jongin is incredibly hot and is very soft with him. He’s also known to be soft with Sehun, though he’d never admit to it.
He’s a neutral party in the pack, though he has a deep sense of justice and will stand with whoever he thinks is wronged in an argument.
I don’t have many Ksoo thoughts, he gives me a headache, his personality is impenetrable! Sorry 🙈
Jongin:
You might have noticed I’ve not spoken much about him with the other members, and that’s because I firmly believe that, while he is a part of this pack, he’s bonded to Taemin. Taemin is his alpha, and they are each other’s persons. Jongin only spends heats with the pack when Taemin is unavailable.
In the Exo pack, Nini is soft and baby. He lounges over the alphas and scents the other omegas and takes care of them. But he’s also stubborn and strong, and because he’s been mated for such a long time, thinks that all the others and their weird relationship problems are so tiring and silly!
That’s why he gets on with Kyungsoo a lot. Kyungsoo does not have weird relationship problems, because he simply has no messy relationships in the band XD They get to make fun of the others from their little cocoon.
Nini knows how to depend on the others to help him, and he’s very good at being a stabalizing and sensible influence in the pack.
Him and Taemin make each other so much better, and take care of each other’s needs so well that Nini effectively doesn’t need a pack. They just add to his life and he adores them. It makes him a very steady presence.
Sehun:
He effectively takes the role of a pack omega but not because he needs it, because the pack does. It’s good for them to have someone they can spoil and love this way. He gives them the opportunity of all feeling like they get to take care of him and be good for the pack by doing so; and by doing so, he gets to comfort them and take care of them without them feeling like they’re asking for care.
Sehun has large emotions about the pack, he needs all of them, and feels like they all need each other. He’s mostly quiet about it, though, he’s not a words person. He just flops in someone’s lap when he’s having emotions.
As in canon, he’s been in love with Chanyeol for years, but it takes them an insanely long time to work out what they are to each other. This lands Sehun in Junmyeon and Baekhyun’s beds often.
He’s an omega, but not a sub or a dom. Like Chanyeol, he enjoys toying with power dynamics broadcast trust. Though he would melt into the center of the earth if Chanyeol bit him and mated him. And he would die if Chanyeol had a collar on and let himself be ordered around by Sehun. It’s all very deeply unusual and not standard bdsm XD
I feel like I talked about Sehun’s relationships with the other members throughout the answer above, so I won’t repeat them here!
Anyway… wow that was long. Anon, I am so sorry if this is way more than you expected!!! I hope you enjoy it regardless!!!!!!!! I have many thoughts about this, clearly! XD
