I know a lot of people depict Bucky as riding a motorcycle and I saw a tiktok of someone asking someone on a motorcycle for a ride. And when they say yes they say "I didn't mean on the bike." Now imagine Sam saying that to Bucky and him getting all blushy
Sam ‘I wanna ride’ Wilson and Bucky ‘the motorcycle?’ Barnes

This meta has been a few years coming, but recently inspired due to: 1) Sian (@siancore) mentioning and incorporating into her amazing fic End of the World the moment that this meta is about, and 2) talking to Mexi (@thatmexisaurusrex) about this and then when she made that "share your fave sambucky moments that are canon" post, I knew this needed to finally been written and have its own proper post.
(Also, to @elektraking who wanted to be pinged when I finally wrote this, I finally did it!)
This post is long and image heavy but I didn't want to put it all under a read more.
We all know this scene from Infinity War, it's been all over people's dashes and giffed and etc etc. We also know it's a pretty quick scene, not necessarily a blink and you miss it one, but because it moves pretty quickly. If you're not paying too much attention to everyone else in the background, things will slip by.
However, watching things in 4K can really make things interesting because 1) you can zoom in and 2) you can zoom in and see some pretty clear detail, like the fact Sam and Bucky are looking at each other during this entire scene.
You can see here that everyone present except Sam isn't really watching Steve and Bucky interact -- either they're blocked from of the camera (Rhodey, Ayo, Bruce) or they're not looking at them (Nat has her eyes closed, T'Challa is looking at the side).
Sam is clearly in Bucky's line of sight, even if Bucky is looking at Steve (because we know Steve is moving closer to him and is about to talk to him)
On zoom in, we can see Sam is not zoned out, this is a very focused look at what is happening in front of him.
The next moment is where Steve goes in for the hug, but during this hug, a couple of things happen: 1) Sam moves closer towards them a bit, 2) he and Bucky actually DO stare at each other over Steve's shoulder
And for more than a few moments. Sort of significant if you think about the fact that Sam and Bucky seem to communicate a lot with nonverbal looks between each other. (We see this a few times in Civil War, and then later in this movie, but that will be even more apparent as fact in Endgame and, of course, TFATWS.)
And perhaps this could be passed off as "looking at each other coz we're looking in the same direction" except for the fact that Bucky makes a deliberate look at Sam when we get the pan over to his face.
When Steve backs away from the hug, we see Sam is still looking at Bucky, so we can assume during the entire exchange when the camera goes towards Bucky, Sam is still doing that.
Which leads us to when the camera pans over to Bucky.
(Yeah, yeah the cropping on this is kinda weird for me, but I wanted to make sure you could see his face.)
Steve proceeds to ask Bucky how he's doing. And of course, Bucky gives some kind of cutesy quip that fills space and time before going to the next big plot thing.
It's very interesting that Bucky pauses right after saying "uh, not bad", but as indicated by the arrow I put in the gif, he's staring in the exact direction where Sam would be. Because if you notice in the screenshots before this moment, above, when Bucky and Steve break away from the hug, Sam is in Bucky's line of sight but somewhat to the side, the same direction as the glance in the gif.
Now, as we know, the others are barely watching Steve and Bucky's interaction except Sam, who's still watching with focused attention.
If you were standing where Sam is standing, watching all of this, hearing Steve asking Bucky, "how's it going" and he responds "uh, not bad," and pauses WHILE looking at a glance in your direction, most people would consider that a moment.
And why wouldn't it be a moment? No one else is paying attention to Bucky or Steve except Sam. Bucky and Sam have before this comment were looking at each other when Steve brings in Bucky to a hug. Hell, Bucky could have just said "for the end of the world" without looking sideways and the scene would've worked as intended.
Yet, he gives that glance, and has a smile as he says, "not bad". While looking at Sam. It's so quick, yet it says so much. And considering how we know it's canon for them to be able to speak volumes by just sharing glances at each other (hello Sam looking at Bucky during Endgame), why wouldn't that apply here too? Because the glance wasn't really needed if you think about it.
And of course, Bucky deflects with his "for the end of the world" coz 1) he doesn't want Steve to try to make more small talk and 2) world ending shit is happening, they do NOT have time to stand around, they need to coordinate and they're on a time table. Because we all know Steve, he would want to know the reason why Bucky is actually smiling probably one of the first genuine smiles he's given on screen since TWS.
Anyway, we all know the rest: the plot moves forward, Sam and Bucky end up standing close to each other to witness Thanos' forces trying to get through Wakanda's shields, and then they end up being blipped.
Still, while a short, quick moment, on closer inspection, a lot can be said. Another in a line of Sam and Bucky's "saying things with a look" moments, but an underappreciated one.
#mcu#sambucky#meta#gif#my gifs#my meta#long post#lmao photoshop died on me while making gifs for this post and i had to restart my laptop 😂#anyways i hope y'all enjoyed this post i have been meaning to write it for FOREVER but it's here so lmao

if we got a second season of tfatws what would you want to be in it 👀
Oh my gosh, such a good question to ask! 😆 A very hard one too Cassie, lemme think on this 🤔
Okay, a few things that would be a must would be:
A "Meanwhile, on the boat..." moment, or perhaps a montage of moments where things are happening throughout the MCU movies that happened post-TFATWS and Sam and Bucky are just 😂 on the boat, hearing about the events after the fact. I keep thinking about the scene in season 7 of Supernatural where they montage Dean commenting on what Castiel does with his new godlike powers while Dean fixes his car, but it doesn't have to be like that (3:16-3:46 here for reference lol).
youtube
Sam needs to save Bucky from falling. Sam had someone he couldn't save in the air. Bucky didn't have anyone to save him when he fell. Sam and Bucky both need that catharsis and it's wild that didn't happen in the first season.
Sam flying around as Bucky snipes at things 😂 Again - how did that not happen in the first season?
Sam and Bucky must either be already roommates or looking for an apartment which will be the place they will live in together.
Sarah, AJ, and Cass must be in it as well as other people we've seen like Carlos, Tommy, Isaiah, and Eli.
Another song by Curtis Harding must close the show's next sunset ending (it MUST be a good ending where they look into the sunset again, I'm sorry, I don't make the rules). Perhaps Can't Hide It by Curtis Harding?
youtube
Joaquín! There must be more Jay, I refuse to believe there wouldn't be so much more Jay in a season two.
FLASHBACKS. WHERE. WERE. THE. FLASHBACKS. Gimme Sam and Riley flashbacks, flashbacks of Sam with his family, gimme more info on Sam.
Can we???? Get more info on Sarah too???? Like was she married before??? Who are Cass and AJ's dad or dads??? How does she feel about Sam disappearing for a huge chunk of years??? I just want to know more about her.
And GIDEON. GIVE SAM HIS OLDER BROTHER.
Also, GIVE SAM BIRD TELEPATHY, YOU COWARDS, AS WELL AS A FALCON NAMED REDWING.
AYO AND ANEKA VISIT. THEY HAVE TO VISIT. LET AYO AND ANEKA BE BESTIES WITH SAM AND BUCKY.
Acknowledgment that Sam found Bucky in Europe but kept Bucky's secret and visited Bucky. Also that Sam visited Bucky during his time as a goatherder in Wakanda, possibly with a reference to the costco tub of lube 😂
MORE EPISODES. GIVE US MORE EPISODES. GIVE US TEN EPISODES AT LEAST, YOU COWARDS.
Things I can live without but I think would be a waste if they aren't in a hypothetical season two:
A huge and exciting action sequence during a New Orleans Mardi Gras Parade with Sam being the King of that parade.
There's a team of villainous jugglers in the Marvel comics called the Death-Throws. I really want them as secondary comedic villains who may or may not be kind of good people a la Jessie, James, and Meowth from Team Rocket in Pokemon movies. Just let Sam and Bucky have some comedy villains in the background doing their thing, Marvel.
Visiting Steve on the Moon. I just think Sam and Bucky deserve space shenanigans. I will also take a Facetime, if that's too out of budget, though.
Misty Knight cameo where Sam and Misty either imply or outright talk about being exes. Probably amicable, though, it would be funny if Sam's a bit awkward about it, but Misty's chill with him.
Karli resurrection. She deserved more of a redemption arc than Walker. Bring her back to life, Disney, I dare you.
Bucky and Falcon!Redwing don't get along. More because Bucky is jealous than anything else.
A VISIT TO WAKANDA! Do they go to Birnin Zana? Do they visit the town Bucky was living in as a goatherder? Do they go to Ayo and Aneka's home for dinner? Maybe they possibly only let Sam into the country while Ayo is like "I told you to lie low for a while, White Wolf" to Bucky 😂
Baron Zemo can have a cameo, if only because Anthony Mackie was bummed that Daniel Brühl isn't a part of Cap 4.
Wildest Options I Don't Think Would Happen But I Would Love:
SamBucky wedding. It all takes place the days leading up to their wedding. Or, if I'm being more realistic, a wedding. Like, if, say Sarah and Rhodey were getting married or Carol and Valkyrie or perhaps Ayo and Aneka.
SamBucky kiss? Though, again, highly doubt that and I'm really okay with SamBucky not being canon.
Fourth wall break where Feige himself walks into a room, sits down, and apologizes about how he treated Sam Wilson's character in the MCU and promises to do better. He pulls out an entire slide show and the episode is just him talking about how he will be integrating Sam more thoroughly into the MCU. I'm talking how specifically Sam will cameo, where he will cameo, pitches for other projects Sam will be heavily tied to, the works.

ᴄᴀɴ ʏᴏᴜ ʀᴇᴍᴇᴍʙᴇʀ? (ᴛʜᴇ ʀᴀɪɴ)
Pairing: Sambucky (Sam Wilson x Bucky Barnes)
Summary: How Bucky discovered that there is beauty in scary things.
Bingo Fill: ‘Free Space’ on my ‘Vacation’ card for @sambuckylibrary’s sambucky summer bingo!
Warnings: weather, anxiety, hurricane mention, storms, rain.
He had been in storms before. It rained in Brooklyn back in the forties. Heavy rain for long periods of time often meant having to take care of a sick Steve Rogers. It meant unease and worry, because sometimes even a small cold really seemed to put Steve’s body to the test.
But there was a hint of calm in storms. The constant sound of rain provided gentle background noise. Bucky liked to read by the window for this reason.
During the war, rain meant being wet and being in danger. Not a great mix. But it’s not like he remembered much of the trenches anyway, the most that came to him was torture and fear, and that only came through flashbacks.
HYDRA didn’t care what the weather was, if there was a mission he was going to complete it. He can’t remember much about his opinions on weather from that time. It doesn’t really matter, and he knows that, but he still wishes he had all his memories.
Or maybe he doesn’t. Maybe he doesn’t want to bear that cross.
Nowadays he likes storms. Or rather, he doesn’t dislike them. He’s more neutral on the topic.
So he’s indifferent when the storm outside begins to pick up. It’s not a hurricane, he’s absolutely positive of that. But it is some rough weather. Not something you’d want to be driving in, especially because of the water so close by.
Bucky stood at the window, watching the rain. Sarah kept stressing about flooding as she made sure the boys didn’t have any online homework to do.
Sam chased her around the house, trying his best to reassure her that flooding wasn’t an issue. She didn’t seem to want to listen.
“It could be a hurricane.” She huffed, her brows furrowed. “Boys, are your bedroom windows closed?” She kept rushing around gathering bottles of water. The boys weren’t even in the living room.
“Sarah, it is not a hurricane. It’s just some rain.” Sam followed behind her as she passed him water bottles. “You’re stressing yourself out.”
“It could flood. I do not have the time to deal with water damage, Sam.” She stressed. “Boys!” She called again.
“And you won’t! It’s a small storm. It’ll be cleared up by tomorrow.” Sam said. Bucky checked his watch. It was 7:45 PM. They’d had dinner earlier, Bucky and Sam and Sam’s family.
Bucky felt bad for Sarah. She obviously had some kind of weather anxiety, something that Bucky understood. Rebecca had had it, back in the forties. Back in his childhood home.
Becca, when she was real little, maybe 4-7 years old, was absolutely terrified of thunderstorms. She hated the loud noises.
Whenever she’d be woken up by a bad dream brought up from the storm, she’d race into his room. He comfort her, hold her close to his chest until she’d stopped crying, and then he’d send her back to bed.
Those hugs worked for Becca. And they worked for Steve, too. Back in the forties, Steve would get anxious like that sometimes. Bucky couldn’t ever really tell if there was a common factor between those situations, but Steve would just cling on to Bucky. And Bucky would hold him close to his chest until Steve was feeling better.
Part of him wanted to offer that to Sarah, but how the hell do you say ‘hey, do you want me, a 106 year old ex-assassin, to hug you, a young and attractive woman, really tightly’?
The answer is: you don’t. Not really. But desperate times call for desperate measures.
Mustering all of his courage, he walked up behind her and wrapped her in his arms tightly, though he left space for her to get away.
She gasped and clutched at his arm for a moment before she relaxed in his arms.
“James Buchanan Barnes, what the hell are you doing?” She said after checking whether or not the boys were in the room.
And that reminded him of something. He remembered when he was a preteen boy, when his mother would say his full name when he was being ornery. She’d say Becca’s name like that, too. Rebecca Phoebe Barnes.
“It..helps.” He said vaguely, his brows furrowing in concern. “Right?”
She stood there, considering it for a moment, before nodding. “It does.” She admitted.
Bucky let go after a moment.
“Thank..you?” She seemed confused, but grateful. Bucky just smiled gently. “Worked for Steve and my sister, back in the ‘40s.”
Sam just stood there, and Bucky couldn’t tell if he was amused or concerned. Maybe a bit of both.
Once he let go, he walked back towards his boyfriend—saying that word felt odd—silently asking where he could be useful.
Sam gestured with his head towards the small kitchen drawer where they Bucky knew they kept flashlights.
He went and grabbed them, all four. One hot pink, one bright blue, one silver, and one black.
He held two in each hand as he glanced back up at the siblings.
“I think there’s some lantern-camping-lights—whatever they’re called—up in the attic. Can you two go grab them?” Sarah asked.
Sam, humoring his sister, nods. “C’mon.” He pats Bucky’s back, leading him up the stairs and to his nephews’ room.
Bucky follows him, standing in the room with Sam as Sam pulls open the door and pulls down the wooden stairs to the attic.
“I really don’t think that the power will go out, but she’s always had some nasty weather anxiety.” Sam murmured as he went up the wooden stairs. Bucky followed.
A loud boom of thunder made Sam flinch. Bucky was also startled, but not at the same level.
“Can’t say I’m a huge fan of loud noises in the sky, either.” Sam commented, unstacking some labeled plastic tubs.
Bucky nodded in sympathy, knowing what Sam was referring to. Riley.
“Can you check the camping bin?” Sam asked. Bucky nodded again, stepping around the dark attic.
“Sarah?” Sam calls, handing his sister one of the lanterns and three of the flashlights from Bucky’s hands.
In return, she hands him a small bag. Sam takes it, though it’s clear he thinks it’s pointless.
“AJ and Cass and I are gonna be in the storage room. Are you coming with me or camping out in the bathroom?” Sarah asked. Bucky looked at Sam.
“It’s fine. You go in there with the boys. Buck and I will be fine in the bathroom.” Sam decided, and Bucky nodded. Sarah seemed to be okay with this, considering the fact that she walked away. Sam led Bucky to the downstairs bathroom, which had a tub-shower in it and everything, just like the upstairs bathroom.
“She’s hella paranoid over storms. The storage room has no windows, so she always stays in there when the weather gets like this. It’s a small room, though. I doubt you wanted to be cramped up in a tiny room with no windows.”
Bucky grimaces, shaking his head. “Yeah, I’m good on that.”
They sit across from each other on the bathroom floor.
“What’s in the bag?” Bucky asks after a moment.
“Water. Lots of water bottles. Some freeze dried snacks. Other snacks.” Sam begins to list as he opens the bag. “Batteries in a ziplock bag in case the flashlights or lanterns die. A walkie-talkie.”
“She packs like she’s in the army.” Bucky notes, a soft smile on his face.
“Yeah. She’s always been the more planner one. Always thinking everything out instead of just doing it.” Sam murmurs, a grin on his lips.
Then the light flickers. Bucky looks up. And then it flickers again.
And then it goes out.
“Shit,” Sam chuckles, amused, as he turns on the lantern.
Bucky shifts uneasily.
Sam looks at him, a gentle look on his face. “I promise you, everything’s fine. The house is old, the power goes out when the weather gets rough. It happens.”
Bucky nods, his knees comfortably against his chest.
“Hey,” Sam said after a second. “Listen.”
Bucky listened for whatever Sam was talking about. And all he heard was the rain.
It was a calming sound. Gentle, even as the sky roared around it. Like a flower growing in the crevice of a sharp and jagged rock.
Bucky liked the rain. This time, he was sure of it.
He gently reached for Sam’s hand. Sam took it, and much to Bucky’s surprise, didn’t make any teasing comments.
They hold hands like that for a while.
“Sam?” Bucky says after a long time.
“Yeah?” Sam glanced at him.
“Thanks for being here.” Bucky hummed.
Sam only grinned.

a/n: the first part of this fic was written in 2023. Because it’s technically a wip, I pray that it still fits in the bingo’s rules. However, since it was written in 2023 and finished in 2024, I’m sure there’s a discrepancy in the way I write or characterize the characters. I hope it’s not too noticeable—and if it is, my bad.

Traditions
A/N: Written for @thatmexisaurusrex as part of the @sambuckylibrary SamBucky Gift Event. My last of the year. Thanks to everyone for supporting me this year. Enjoy!
Summary: Sam has plans to spend New Year's Eve alone on his family's boat. Bucky shows up out of nowhere, like he usually does, and the pair spend it together even though they aren't together anymore.
Read on AO3
“Don’t worry about me,” said Sam as he placed the last of his supplies in his waterproof bag. “Just enjoy yourself tonight. Make sure to take plenty of pictures of the boys. And if you need anything you let me know and I’ll be there in a heartbeat.”
“Thank you,” Sarah replied, the sound of AJ and Cass’ excited chatted wafter in the background of the call. “But this is your first weekend off in how long? You enjoy yourself, too. Make sure to check-in with us first thing in the morning.”
“You’re not planning on staying up late?”
“Nope. The boys can watch the ball drop, but we’ll be back in the hotel room not long after that.”
“I could’ve watched them, and you could’ve had a night out,” said Sam in earnest. “Still can.”
“No, it’s fine,” Sarah replied. “It’s their first New Year’s Eve in New Orleans. I want them to have fun. I want us to have fun together. Start a new tradition with them.”
“I hear you,” said Sam as he took a seat at the kitchen table. “Be safe out there. And if anything happens, call me.”
“To the rescue, uh?
Sam smiled and said, “Always.”
…..
The sun was still hanging low in the Louisiana sky as Sam loaded his truck. A soft breeze swirled around him, cold for that time of year in that part of the country. He pulled his jacket closed and placed the last of his supplies in the back seat. Just then, a car came up the driveway. Sam turned just in time to see Bucky exiting the vehicle.
“Bucky? What’re you doin’ here?” asked Sam, surprised to see him. “I thought you were on some secret mission?”
“I was due for R&R,” Bucky explained as he walked over to where Sam was standing. “Thought I’d see what you were doing.”
“You gotta learn how to use a phone, Buck,” said Sam with a laugh as the pair shared a quick embrace. “I’m takin’ the boat out.”
“I know. Sarah told me.”
“So, you know how to call Sarah but not me?”
“I was making sure she had everything she needed for New Year’s Eve in New Orleans,” said Bucky as he leaned against Sam’s truck. “She said you were stayin’ home. Thought you might want company.”
“And you sent yourself?” said Sam half teasing.
“The least I could do for you, Cap,” Bucky replied before nudging Sam with his shoulder. “So, you ready to ship out?”
“Yeah,” Sam replied. “Let’s head out.”
…..
Sam Wilson had been to so many different places all over the world, but nothing compared to being on his family’s boat out on the water just as the sun was setting. The vast and varied colors reflecting from the sky to the water soothed Sam as much as the steady rocking of the boat. He was drawn from his reverie by Bucky handing over a plate of different cold cuts and cheeses.
“Sorry I didn’t bring a lot of food,” said Sam with a gentle smile. “I wasn’t expecting company.”
“You got beers,” said Bucky as he clinked his bottle against Sam’s. “That’s good enough for me.”
Bucky settled in next to Sam on a deck chair at the stern of the boat. He sipped from his drink and glanced out over the shimmering waters. He then turned his head to look at Sam.
“This is nice,” said Bucky. “Thanks for letting me join you.”
Sam huffed out a laugh and said, “Like I had a choice. When you say, ‘I’m comin’ with you’, I’ve learned not to argue. You don’t listen anyways.”
Bucky let out a laugh and said, “That is true.”
Silence settled around them comfortably as Sam picked at his food and Bucky sipped from his beer.
“This the first time you’ve been out here since you got back?” Bucky suddenly asked.
Sam noticed that he did not ask a lot of questions generally, but rather sat back and observed. It was nice to have him taking an interest.
“Yeah,” said Sam. “First time in a long time.”
He turned his head to see Bucky watching him, so he continued to speak.
“It was kinda a tradition for us,” said Sam with a nostalgic tone to his voice. “Back in the day, when the seafood business was booming, the docks used to see a lot of action from tourists and locals. There was always music and food. A nice atmosphere around this time of the year. It ain’t New Orleans, but folks here knew how to have a good time.”
Bucky nodded and listened.
“My parents would close up the restaurant early and bring us kids out on the boat. We’d do the New Year countdown and watch the fireworks that Tommy let off from back up on the shore. We’d sail around a little longer after that, and eventually Sarah and Gideon’d be too tired and fall asleep, but I liked staying up pretending I was asleep. I liked listening to Mama and Daddy talk when they thought no one was listening. They’d talk about the year that’d passed and what they were thankful for. What they were looking forward to in the coming year. What they were scared of; how they’d get through it together. It was one of the best memories I have of them.”
“It sounds lovely, Sam,” said Bucky with a fond expression on his face.
“It was,” Sam agreed. “I just wanted what they had, y’know? Someone to face the familiar and the uncertain with.”
Tears welled in Sam’s eyes before he let out a little laugh and said, “Sorry, this time of year makes me sentimental.”
Before Bucky could reach out and place a comforting hand to Sam’s, he spoke again.
“What about you? What was your New Year’s Eve traditions before everything that happened – happened?”
“Fighting.”
“What?” asked Sam, unsure of if he had heard Bucky correctly.
“I don’t know if it was ever in those museum exhibits about the Howling Commandos, but I used to be a boxer.”
“Right, yeah. I remember Steve mentioned it once or twice,” said Sam with a smile. “Also heard you liked to dance. So, which did you like best? Dancing or boxing?”
“Well, Buttercup, dancin’ didn’t pay no bills,” said Bucky with a hint of his 1940s vernacular and swagger creeping in.
“It does if you’re good enough,” Sam teased, causing Bucky to roll his eyes playfully.
“I was plenty good,” Bucky defended. “I was just better with my fists, and everyone knew it. Guess that’s still a thing.”
There was a moment of melancholy that hung over them at the gravity of Bucky’s words.
“So, you fought on New Year’s Eve?”
“I was a champion fighter but did exhibition bouts on New Year’s Eve from the age of sixteen,” Bucky explained as he sipped from his drink. “That was my tradition. My old man would drive me to the YMCA because some snot-nosed punk would always want to challenge the champ.”
Bucky rolled his eyes.
“So, that’s how most of my New Year’s Eve’s went – fight a few rounds and then go out dancing with a shiner,” he smiled that crooked smile that made Sam feel weak.
“James Bucky Barnes out on the town with a black eye? I can only imagine the attention you got,” said Sam as he drank from his beer.
“The girls swooned over it,” said Bucky looking as if he was just now pulling the memories from deep inside. “And it lit some kinda fire in the belly of the fellas. I did alright.”
Sam’s lips quirked as he said, “Oh, I’m sure you did.”
…..
There weren’t near enough cushions, Sam realized, as he tried to get comfortable on the picnic blanket next to Bucky. The sun had set some time ago, and the pair were supine on the deck of the Paul & Darlene. Sam’s belly was full, and his heart was getting there. He was not expecting that his evening would go that way, but he was having an enjoyable time. He was glad to have Bucky back beside him. He was happy.
“These lights are a nice touch,” said Bucky gesturing to the string lights that hung overhead.
“Cass and AJ’s idea,” Sam explained with a fond smile. “They learned the word ambiance from Carlos and sorta ran with it.”
“They’re smart kids.”
“They are,” said Sam. “We could learn a lot from them.”
Bucky shifted next to Sam and was resting on his elbow. Sam turned his head and stared up at him.
“What?” asked Sam, taking in the intense look in Bucky’s eyes.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t smarter, Sam.”
“Don’t do that,” said Sam. “We agreed that you’d stop doin’ that.”
“I should’ve never left,” Bucky admitted. “Should’ve been smarter. Should’ve stayed with you.”
“Shoulda, woulda, coulda,” Sam replied, waving his hand. “You don’t owe me apologies. You don’t owe me anything.”
“I owe you everything,” said Bucky with so much sincerity it made Sam’s chest feel tight. “What if I stayed?”
“Would that make you happy?”
“Yes.”
“You know you can always fight, and then come back here to dance, right?” said Sam somewhat playfully. “Sure there’s a line around the block of folks who’d wanna dance with you – black eyes and all.”
“I only wanna dance with you, Sam,” said Bucky in earnest as he reached over to cup Sam’s face. “I only want you.”
Sam sat up and stared at Bucky, who mirrored his action. He shivered when a breeze came up off the water. Bucky grabbed a blanket from the nearby deck chair and draped it over Sam’s shoulders.
“This is my life now,” said Sam as he took hold of one of Bucky’s hands. “Sure, I’ll be Captain America until Torres and the others can figure things out, but this is my home. I’ve been away for too long. This is where I want to be. I want you to do whatever makes you happy, Bucky. If that’s working with Walker and the others, then cool. I just don’t think I can be with you in the way we both want without having you here with me. My heart can’t take the worry of not knowing where in the world you are. I can’t be with you and not have you with me.”
“I’m not going back to the Thunderbolts.”
“What? I thought you signed a contract?”
“To hell with their contract, Sam. I miss you and I want to be here with you.”
Sam let his head fall before Bucky tilted his chin up with his fingers and repeated, “I want to be here with you.”
Sam dipped his lips and placed a lingering kiss to Bucky’s knuckles. He lifted his gaze and stared into Bucky’s eyes.
“What about your future?”
“You’re my future, Sam,” Bucky stated plainly as he brought his hand up to caress Sam’s cheek.
“New Year’s Eve does this,” Sam tried to protest weakly. “Makes us do and say things. Makes us feel hopeful about the future.”
“You make me hopeful. I don’t know what’s gonna happen, but I know what I want.”
“Wow,” said Sam, as the overhead lights sparkled in his wet eyes. “You really mean it?”
“Yes, I mean it. Of course, I do. Sam, listen to me: We can’t ever know what the future’s got in store for us,” said Bucky as he ran his hand gently against Sam’s face. “All I know is that I wanna spend it with you. I wanna start new traditions with you.”
A distant crack and rumble of some far-off fireworks exploded and lit the darkened sky with all manner of colors. It sparked a warm memory in Sam that almost matched the warmth he felt in that moment. Maybe he could have something akin to what his parents had. Maybe new traditions were coming.
“Me, too,” said Sam as he took a deep, steadying breath and smiled sweetly at Bucky. “Me, too.”

ik you like stony but are you a fan of any other marvel ships? how do you feel about sambucky? just curious:)
AAA MY FRIEND I AM SOOO GLAD YOU ASKED!!!
I absolutely LOVE Sambucky. It's perhaps one of my favorite marvel ships (aside from the obvious). They're such grumpy husbands and I love them. I always reblog sambucky art because theyre too fucking cute.
As for other Marvel ships, I do have them. Big fan of Peggy x Nat from What If, Agent Carter Universe (I've actually written fic for them I just don't think I've published it), and Peggy x Angela from the Agent Carter Series (if you've seen that series ily). Also I'm a huge sucker for Carol Danvers x Maria Rambeau, AUGh i love them so much. Carol Danvers is my second favorite Marvel character aside from Tony and Steve (i consider them a unit sometimes).
OH YEAH ALSO, my good friend @assignmentimprobable is a big fan of Bruce x Thor and opened my eyes to how cute they are and while I don't normally directly write about them, they're always gonna be in the background of my Stony universe/fics because I love them.
But that was just MCU. As for Spiderverse, I'm a huge Gwen x Miles truther. They're my KIDS!!! I want to see them HAPPY!!! And they're just too damn cute together. Awkward teenagers who are both superheroes who are just happy to be with each other. If Gwiles isn't endgame in the next Spiderverse installment, I'm throwing rocks.
In terms of the AVENGERS ASSEMBLE universe (my favorite show of all time because of how gay Stony is in it), I must admit I ship Clint Barton x Scott Lang (IF YOU SAW THE SHOW YOUD UNDERSTAND).
And as for X-Men... I've been a Cherik shipper since I saw the OG movies. Which should come as no surprise, they're very Stony coded. I love both flavors, the old man yaoi married couple and toxic first divorce mcavoy&fassy. I'm also a huge fan of the Deadpool & Wolverine movie and I love Wadelogan. I also have an oc x canon ship for that universe which is my original character, Kris Corey x Laura Kinney. Massive 2-part fanfic coming out of them soon, although I'm well aware no one cares (except Stevie. Shoutout Stevie).
And in the X-Men 97 universe I must say I love Wolverine and Morph, Disney is doing them dirty by making it all one sided and not nutting up and putting Logan with a nonbinary love interest (although I know it's because the homophobes and transphobes who are the toxic fan bros of the fanbase would piss themselves and cry and throw up. To which I say. FUCKING LET THEM. hrrrgh).
AAAANYWAY is that it?? I'm sure there's more, they're just slipping my mind at the moment. I'm a big fan of Marvel (DUH) and ships (BIGGER DUH) because there's nothing that I like more in this god forsaken universe than Queer Superheroes. They scratch at my brain in a particular way. Something about being Different, and being loved for it instead of hated, and having the power to HELP people on top of that. And also, queer joy. big fan of queer joy on top of metaphors mixed with angst and tragedy. But with a happy ending of course. cause thats how i roll.
#THANKS FOR ASKING#not sorry for the rant#you opened this can of worms#answered ask#yeah-w-r-i-t-e#not tagging all the ships soooo#marvel

I'm looking for a piece of sambucky art
It was the two of them in the outfits from the "tough love" scene in tfatws (sam in grey, buck in blue), it had a mustard yellow background and Bucky was hugging Sam, squeezing him and lifting him up off the ground.
Similar to this pose:
It was definitely posted by the artist on tumblr and I think not long after the show aired.
Does anyone remember this?

I wrote something! I actually wrote something! It's only going to be on AO3, but I'll share snippets of new chapters as I update for the 5 of us that still follow SamBucky (JK we're like 10 at least).
It’s one of those picture-perfect sunsets, the ombré of peach and lavender and cotton candy blue cascading into the rippling water. The grand finale of golden hour. “God creating postcards,” Sam’s Titi used to say.
Sam stares out across this familiar part of the Mississippi River Delta, a grin spreading across his face before he fully registers it. That feeling he had recently been fearing he lost, maybe for good, spreads through his chest like a warm hug from his mamma.
The hum of the first cookout he has been to in decades rises and falls in the background as he stands on the dock and just takes it all in. Laughter picks up at a joke one of the elders is telling, that everyone has heard, but gets funnier every time. The smell of the shrimp boil still lingers in the air, spices from the andouille sausage and the sweet odor of spring shrimp mixing with the salty thickness that wholly belongs to the Bayou. Damn, it feels good to be home .
A sudden lump of emotion creeps into Sam’s throat and his eyes start to sting. Then, above the hum, he hears familiar footsteps approaching behind him. The lump recedes and his grin grows wider.
That’s also a feeling Sam wasn't sure he would experience again. Somewhere between Bucky ghosting him after Steve came back and Bucky showing up to help him rebuild the Paul & Darlene, with the suit from Wakanda in hand, Sam's stomach started fluttering and his cheeks started warming whenever the supersoldier was around.

Mcu not having sambucky be canon is really missing an opportunity because imagine a 'going through the motions' montage of Thunderbolts Bucky (particularly themed around missions and fights) while he pointedly misses Sam as 'Ain't No Sunshine' plays in the background
(oh man especially if he's seeing Sam be all heroic and captain america on the tv while the Thunderbolts are doing all the subterfuge shadowy things Sam doesn't like)
#sambucky#bucky barnes#sam wilson#captain america#this is a joke leave me alone i just like the song#anyway still waiting on angsty thunderbolts Bucky and cap4 sam fics

hi! I think you’ve mentioned on your blog before that you read marvel comics, so as a sambucky fan can I ask you which comics in particular one should read for sam and bucky? I know there’s only one comic book for them, I think - the Cut Of One Head collection. I’ve read that, but I want moore. and I just don’t know where to start. (do you pirate them or do you have the Marvel Unlimited subscription?)
and I saw Mackenzie Lee wrote a Winter Soldier book, have you read it? I’m tempted to check it out. I am mostly asking all of this bc I want to be writing sambucky fic but I struggle with coming up with "villains" and you've come up with so many good villains in your sambucky fics, and just in general you get the mcu vibes just right
Hi anon, thanks for the question and the kind words! I have read some comics and am actively trying to read more, but I have a tendency to get sidetracked. The Falcon and Winter Soldier series is probably peak SamBucky. I've also read some of the Death of Captain America arc and enjoyed that, though it's been a little while and I don't recall how heavy on the SamBucky stuff it was. Sam's most recent Cap series, Symbol of Truth, does have a little bit of Bucky, but you'd have to also read Steve!Cap's Sentinel of Liberty arc to understand it.
The best resource I've found for comics is Comic Book Herald's reading order lists -- Sam and Bucky. Take a look and see where they overlap, and you should find at least some SamBucky content to satisfy you. I'll also tag this post in the hopes that more knowledgeable people might be able to help.
As for your other questions -- yes, I use Marvel Unlimited. I have mixed feelings; it's convenient, but I find the website annoying to navigate and lacking in some features, to the point where you pretty much have to use the app. If you don't mind reading on your phone, or if you have a tablet, I'd say it's worth it. Pretty much all of the older series will be out in trade paperbacks though, so if you have access to a library you may be able to get them for free.
And YES, I did read the Mackenzie Lee Winter Soldier book. It's absolutely like if a Bucky whump fic got published; he's suffering in like every chapter lol. There's no Sam due to the timeframe, and it actually gave me Steve/Bucky* vibes in a few spots. I'll put the specifics under the read since they're (mild) spoilers. But Steve doesn't actually have a huge part in it. I'd say it's worth checking out if you're interested in WWII/early Winter Soldier Bucky. It's comics-adjacent, but not actually part of the main 616 comicsverse, so you can read it without any background.
(And if you're interested in writing villains -- do you want more serious ones, or just sort of like... background plot devices to set up the story? The first one is harder, but if you're interested in the latter, I wouldn't stress it! There's so much weird shit in the comics, if you're going for a lighter tone, you can basically just make up Some Guy, give them a grievance, and let your imagination go.)
*When Bucky and Steve meet for the first time, Bucky thinks about Steve's "thick quads that strained the seams" of his pants, and his "chiseled face." A female friend of Bucky's has a line about wanting to marry Captain America, and then says she isn't sure if Bucky is more possessive over her or Steve. And Bucky flashes back to him and Steve snuggling in a foxhole for warmth, and a different time when he had pneumonia and Steve wrapped them both in a jacket and held him until his fever broke??? Like Steve genuinely isn't a huge part of the story and I wouldn't let that put you off of it if you're otherwise interested in the novel, but I did come away thinking that Mackenzie Lee had probably written Stucky fanfiction at one point.

𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙅𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝘾𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙢𝙖𝙨
Pairing: past Clint Barton x Reader
Summary: You never expected your ex to move on so quickly, but when the holidays come around you’re forced to face the truth.
Warnings: parties, drinking, mention of death, relationship that didn’t work out (yes it is Clint and you), jealous reader, bitter reader, reader is the grinch for real for real, background sambucky, and Christmas.
Every year on the 15th of December, Tony Stark had his Christmas party. And ever since you became an Avenger in 2012, your attendance to said party had become mandatory.
You genuinely had to die to get out of going. You hadn’t ever really disliked this party until 2014. When everything in your life basically began to crash and burn.
You leaned against the railing, watching the party from above. You sipped on a whiskey, the burning sensation distracting you from your misery.
“I knew he’d be quick to move on, but I didn’t know he’d have a fuckin’ marriage.” You grumbled bitterly, as Kate Bishop walked up beside you. She had a black suit on, and she looked pretty damn good.
You weren’t interested in her like that, she was twenty two and you were well into your thirties, soon to be forties. It wasn’t the worst age gap, but it didn’t feel right for you.
“At least he’s happy?” She tried to inspire some kind of enthusiasm in you.
You just huffed out a laugh.
It wasn’t hard to identify the Avengers in the crowds; Bucky and Sam were obviously flirting with each other yet were somehow oblivious to it in the corner, Steve and Nat were having a drinking competition, Thor was entertaining a crowd of young women, and everyone else was off doing other time-wasting bullshit.
“He has kids, too.” Kate said after a moment.
“Gee, thanks for reminding me. Can’t believe I forgot.” You looked down in your glass, swirling the liquid around before taking a drink.
“Sorry.” She muttered.
“Why are you wasting time up here, with me? Don’t you have Nat’s sister to flirt with?”
“What? No—she doesn’t look at me like that. I mean—I don’t think she does—do you think she does?—I kinda hope she does—does she?” She sputtered out.
“…Right. Anyway, you’re too young to be hiding on a balcony at an infamous Stark Party. Go have fun.” You glanced at her, proving your earnestness.
“You’re sure?” She blinked at you.
“Go, Bishop. Have fun.”
She smiled, before walking to the staircase that lead down to the main party floor. You watched her go, before going back to your people-watching.
“A wife.” You muttered darkly, grumbling to yourself. “I bet he doesn’t even treat her right. I could do better, and I don’t even have one wife.”
You glared daggers at the woman. Lauren. Lylah? Lorelei? Lafayette? Something like that.
She was laughing, sipping on a glass of champagne. You scowled at the sight. She was clearly a few years younger than the two of you.
Once your whiskey glass emptied, you realized you had to walk back down to the main floor to get another.
And so you did, attempting to avoid any type of social interaction. And you made it all the way to the bar before you made a terrible timing mistake.
Standing right beside you was your ex-boyfriend, dressed in a leather jacket and a shirt, paired with a belt and some jeans. They were nice clothes, so that he didn’t look out of place at the fancy party.
“L/n,” he coughed awkwardly.
“Barton.” You replied, your tone short and clipped.
You stood together in awkward silence for a few moments as you waited for your own respective drinks.
“It’s good to see you,” he said after a moment, “you look good.”
“Mm. You don’t look so bad yourself.” You said, just to be polite.
You got your drink first. “Be a dear and do me a favor?” You glanced at him.
“Yeah?” He nodded his head, quite eagerly.
“Kiss her once for me. Make it passionate; prove you didn’t use all your good ones on me.” You walked away, the sound of your shoes hitting the floor being the only noise you could focus on.
He didn’t call out for you, nor could you hear him say anything afterward.
Later that evening, you watched as he kissed her gently on the lips under the mistletoe. You laughed drily, taking another swig of whiskey. Maybe he had no more good ones left.
A/n: first time (I think) I’ve written for Clint! Also, I didn’t want to have too much fluff in these 12 days, so expect a little angst in there every so often!

tomorrows hint:
Happy Christmas, I wrapped it up and sent it
With a note saying "I love you", I meant it Now I know what a fool I've been
But if you kissed me now, I know you'd fool me again

does anybody remember this post from YEARS ago where it was like, SamBucky WinterFalcon but it was just like a cutout of Anthony Mackie's head on a blank white background with text that was like, "met this guy... he is NOT cute lol. he just got out of prison. he's a criminal shithead. anyway we're going out on Friday"
it's not coming up when I google it and I refuse to wade through Marvel ship tags to find it but I think about it once every 2-3 years because the text in combination with Mackie being like 😏 all the time is hilarious
#I also wanna know what the text is pulled from#bc ''he is NOT cute lol'' was a direct quote from this image#just mackie (not even falcon not even captain america. just anthony mackie w his lil pinched face) talking absolute shit on winter soldier#you used to couldn't get away from content like this. it's a better world actually lol but I do miss this one joke.

Hello my love! First, merry Christmas (obviously- and did yo hear I'm writing a sambucky Christmas fic?)
Secondly, do I have to infer from your recent posts/reblogs that Rebel moon movie is quite decent...?
Hello my love, thank youuu and Merry Christmas to you too💜💜💜. I didn't know about the Christmas fic but let me know when you're done, I would love to read it !!!
About Rebel Moon, I really liked it, I liked the characters, the storyline and the cinematography. The movie has a part 2 coming in April so we'll know even more about the background of the characters by then.
Most of the critics I've seem to come from people who hate Zack Snyder but I'm pretty neutral about him so I'm not going to automatically hate anything he directs lol.
It really depends on what you like but for me it was good☺️
