Coming back from the dead is the kind of thing that can really fuck up your weekend, as Jon has recently found out (especially considering that he’d paid a mint for those concert tickets, thanks). On one hand, the bureau paperwork is horrifying, and the less said about his skyrocketing health insurance premiums or this year's taxes, the better. On the other hand, though, Sansa Stark, the pretty head of the medical/pathology research division and long-time object of Jon's affections, has insisted on giving him her utmost attention until she’s sure he’s back on his feet and fully among the living.

In one kiss, you'll know all I haven't said – A Jonsa College-Holidays AU
It's the Holiday Season, and the New Year might bring new chances in love. Since she was fifteen, Sansa Stark has had a crush on her big brother's best friend, Jon Snow. Not even in her wildest dreams did she imagine he would ever see her as more than Robb's little sister. Since he was a teenager, Jon Snow has had feelings for his best friend's little sister, Sansa Stark. He never went after the girl of his dreams because he didn't want to mess up his friendship with Robb, who was like a brother to him. Now, with both of them in college in King's Landing, new shots are begging to be taken. After a tumultuous relationship, Jon is ready to let go of the things holding him back and finally go after who he wants. After a bad relationship left her hesitant when it comes to love, will Sansa let go of her doubts and fears and go after what she desires most? Spending two weeks together with their whole families under one roof will help... Right?

I did the thing again!
Took me quite a while. You can probably tell that I half-assed the lightning and background - sorry about that (I'm so tired, hah).
I was gonna make it kinda a darker version of jonsa (in anticipation of THE DREADFUL) but then I added a blush and it all became much more vanilla and innocent. So I guess, the moral of the story here - maybe you shouldn't pin your crush against the wall if you gonna be tomato red anyway then? Please, kabedon someone only if you can handle it.
So yeah. Once again - could be better, could be worse, hope you like it!

Homecoming
Jonsa ficlet Rating: G Universe: Canon, bookverse Other: Arranged marriage, Sansa POV
Also on AO3.
Banners appear on the horizon, the emblem invisible to her at first as the standards fly straight out behind the men who hold them, but Sansa does not need to see the fabric to know who has arrived. Ghost had been beside her in the Great Hall as she met with a group of serving women when he chuffed and sprang to his feet. The direwolf had only to look at her and she knew. They had climbed the stairs in the keep until they reached the battlements, Sansa following Ghost as he walked her around to just above the East Gate. Together, they watched over the hills to the south and east of the castle, waiting for any sign of him—for Jon and his host, riding home from a gathering with new southern rulers.
The standard bearers slow their horses, and the banners relax into a gentler movement. She can see the great beast on them now, white against a grey background. While it looks the most like a direwolf—like Ghost—it is something new, with a scaled belly, long talon claws, and feathery wings—a wolf, a dragon, and a crow all in one. Ivory weirwood trunks and limbs with bright red leaves encircle the beast to complete the design, one of Sansa’s own imaginings. With their marriage, Jon could fly the Stark banner, the grey direwolf that hangs off the battlements of Winterfell even now, but he had refused.
Ghost moves back toward the stairs, and she follows to await his master in the yard. Her palms sweat in her light leather gloves and her heart pounds. I have not been this nervous to see Jon since our wedding night.
Once her husband is through the gate and off his horse, they greet each other formally. Nervousness continues to bubble inside her as they proceed into the keep and his bedchamber, where a bath awaits him.
She leaves him there to wash off the grime of a hard ride. He frowns as she goes, no doubt sensing her disquietude. Why must he see through me? she wonders.
Perhaps his ability to do so is the very reason she finds herself in this situation.
Later, when she sees the servants taking the dirty bathwater away, she returns to his rooms. The first soft knock returns no answer, so she tries again, firmer this time, and he bids her enter.
Jon is standing straight when she opens the door, but Sansa can see the exhaustion behind his eyes. Once again, their greeting is proper. Then they fall silent, as he waits for her to explain her presence.
There are words Sansa is thinking of trying out on her tongue, ones she has never spoken to Jon before. The alliance their marriage built is so very fragile still, and affection was never part of the promises they made to each other or their people. It grew anyway, at least for her. Scarier than recognizing that is the fear she harbors that he does not feel the same.
But Sansa is brave, so she walks closer to him and twists her tongue to form the words.
“I missed you,” she says, eyes cast down. Her disposition does not prevent her from seeing his eyebrows shoot up. With them, her own walls rise. She lifts her chin as well, no longer wishing to appear demure.
“I mean to say, Ghost missed you, and I missed having you to negotiate with the wildlings. Tormund Giantsbane is the crassest man—”
Jon halts her words as he reaches out and pulls her into his chest, his nose drawing a line up her neck as he breathes in deep. Almost like he wishes to inhale me, she thinks. “I missed you as well, my lady,” he says in her ear, and sparks shoot down her back from where his breath tickles her skin.
Sansa believes him, Seven save her. After everything, her trust in people having been trampled by a cavalry of cruel men and women, this is all it takes: an embrace and seven simple words. Only his embrace, and only his words, she promises herself.
She relaxes into his arms, content for the first time in a long while.

Elizabeth of York and Henry VII have always given me jonsa vibes.
Jon’s got a right to the crown in the North through his mother and Sansa through her father. Her claim is stronger, as was Elizabeth’s over Henry’s, since her brothers were assumed to be dead.
Lyanna was a pregnant teen and so was Henry’s mother. Both parents died before the births of their sons. Henry was an only child and so is Jon.
Although Elizabeth herself was not a red headed she had a famous red headed son.
Henry’s father was Welsh and that made him the son of “a dragon”. Henry created the Welsh flag we know, a red dragon over a white and green background and flew it as his personal standard in battle.
Henry was thought by some to be a prophesied hero from the legends of Merlin and Arthur. In reality, he was rather practical, keen to make alliances through marriage, and very careful with money. Like Jon.
Their marriage brought an end to war but it would be their great grandchild, James I, who would finally unite in himself the North (Scotland) and the South (England).
Interesting, isn’t it?
Yes! I thought of you when I added that post to my Q and wondered if you'd written about that before? I know I've read a meta, and you're so good at the historical parallels!
Several people have wondered if, since we're told Bran can't have kids, we're meant to assume that Sansa's child would be his heir/eventually rule Westeros because of Cat's lines back in AGOT:
Her sons could rule from the Wall to the mountains of Dorne. What is so wrong with that? (AGOT, Catelyn II)
which fits really well with this line of spec. I saw another post the other day, a picture of a coin with Elizabeth of York with the inscription that definitely reminded me of Stark maidens/Jonsa:
The latin inscription says: ‘Elizabeth of York wife of Henry VII Queen of England’ (obverse) and ‘Hence have our roses grown’ (reverse). (link)

Thoughts on Jon Snow as a character? He's my fav so far
I like him!
He didn't start out as a character I felt especially drawn to. I mostly pitied him, especially in ASOS, and he's very dour if that surface level dramatic melancholia and dry resignation isn't your cup of tea. I never hated him, but... he was just sort of there. And every projection for his future plot I found while casually perusing the fandom was bland. Secret Targ, okay. What's the point of that, then? Connecting the Wall plot to the dragons? Grand Tragic Secret Heir and Grand Dramatic Dragon Queen Do Grand Dramatic Tragic Destiny stuff dramatically? Zzzzzzzzz.
After delving into the theory of Jonsa, I obviously engaged more with the character, and I have grown very fond of him. Lots is lurking under the surface that I had never paid attention to in depth.
And what I find the most crucial is that his story is at its heart so small and domestic and emotional. It's relatable for being ordinary at its heart. It's about healing and reconciling after a burdened childhood, finding out what you really want and discovering you can have it. Not in grand gesture but in self-worth and honesty.
The most engaging and the absolute hinge of his characterization is his attachment to his family, his home, and the North. Being a bastard prevents him from living this out and creates The Obstacle he chafes against. It causes him to strike out looking for Importance in adventure and glory, and he fails. And learns. But it is ultimately that deep love and attachment that truly guides him in everything he does. And that makes him actually extremely interesting as a character, because it shifts his arc away from being about Magic and Apocalyptic Drama as some abstract excuse for heroics, toward that of inner conflict. It's a small, very relatable story about longing for home, playing out on a big canvas for background. All Jon does during his adventures away from home, his frustration struggling with his compassion, his understanding of the world being wittled down to questions of basic ethics, it's all based on his understanding of himself as a Stark, serving the duties and values of a member of House Stark. To belong to his family and himself in his own heart, if he cannot belong otherwise. And it highlights why those popular speculations about him are so bland. They don't touch his core. Dragons? What do they have to do with House Stark and Winterfell and his pack? Nothing. They, too, ultimately represent an Obstacle between himself and his deepest desire of truly belonging in his home without reservation, by removing his paternal connection.
Except, it's replaced by the maternal connection. One that matters just as much. That has been nagging at him all this time. It actually cements his identity, rather than dismantling it. Not shameful burden but valued and protected. This, too, takes Jon out of the realm of Bland Male Heroics (Rhaegar's special destiny boy) toward a story of inner healing and equilibrium. It's self-acceptance. Very human. Very ordinary. Very powerful.
And as a special twist - and this is why Jonsa is so brilliant as a theory - his parentage is also the key to actually granting him those impossible secret wishes of replicating his childhood the right way through his own marriage and family. But only if he is worthy of this through his actions and choices, worthy of being loved and recognized as a metaphorical prince. He get's to be a fairytale princess, essentially, raised from humility to fulfillment. Because of who he is. Who he has chosen to be again and again, because of his fundamental love. Everything else, the heroics, the missteps and recoveries, is just window dressing. Exciting ways to tell a simple story.
His story doesn't work with a tragic ending of repeated exile. It's all building toward balance and peace. It's extremely moving.
I'm a big fan.

"Ryan finally had a girlfriend that actually thought about him!!“ yes absolutely! I didn’t *hate* Marissa but I really disliked the Marissa/Ryan ship, they weren’t right together. Never even thought about it but it makes so much sense that you come from a The OC background.
The way you write modern Jon reminds me so much of Ryan (LOVE IT). So interesting that you tried to rework one of your existing fics into a Jonsa fic. I would honestly love a fic with some OC vibes. The only The OC Jonsa fic I’ve read was one where Sansa was put into Marissa‘s role and it did NOT fit. Thinking about it, Sandy and Kirsten Cohen definitely give off Ned and Cat vibes!
Also Happy Birthday!
I used to hate Marissa a lot, but I was younger then (it didn't help that the other people in my fandom vitriolically hated her lol). I can look back now and realize that Marissa was, unfortunately, the writer's favorite toy to create new drama, at the expense of her character.
And unlike almost every other character, she just wasn't fun for me (I will say, Seth sometimes bordered on too much for me, but usually he was fine). Like did Julie do terrible things? Sure, but oh boy when she showed up in a scene, I knew it would be a good time. I would rather watch her than Marissa any day of the week. Marissa would just suck the energy out of everything for me. But maybe that's a product of my old fandom, and I'd feel differently watching it now. I haven't rewatched in ages, tbh.
And I will say, I liked Marissa at the end of season 3! Because they were just wrapping up her character so she wasn't starting shit and she was actually just fun like she should've been the entire time. And they acknowledge that she & Ryan were toxic together, and better off as long distance friends. So when the time comes for her death, I'm actually sad!
I tried not to be too mean to Marissa in my fics... towards the end. Though I did write a one shot about her murdering Ryan lmaoooo. That's strictly on my livejournal... I think it's still there?
As for a Jonsa OC fic.... I've had one half written basically since I started writing fic again.
Ryan - Jon Trey - Aegon Sandy - Ned Kirsten - Cat Seth - Arya?
But there's where it sort of fails, because who is Sansa? Is SHE Seth? Where does she come in, unless I make her not related to the Cohen/Stark family. Or do I get rid of Kirsten/Cat, make her married to Jimmy/some other dude, and have Sansa as her daughter with Arya as Ned's?
Omg this got so long, but I'll include what I have written below the cut, which is literally just the opening scene, so don't get too excited lol.
The OC AU
They approach the car like it's prey, ducked down, creeping.
“I'm your big brother. If I don't teach you this, who will?" With that, Egg smashes out the window, the sound loud and echoing in the quiet alley. He opens the door and gets in, but Jon hesitates, looks over his shoulder towards the main road.
"Quit being a little bitch. Get in!"
And so Jon does, because he always does what Egg says. Just as he's about to get in the passenger side, it happens – a cop car rolls by on the main street, and Jon's heart lurches in his chest, but it passes.
And then it backs up.
“Come on!” Egg shouts, laughing and reckless. “Let's go, Jon!”
Jon slides into the passenger side and slams the door shut behind him, heart racing a mile a minute as Egg hotwires the car and gets it started, as the police cruiser turns down the alley.
And then they're off.
Down the street and out into the open, Egg pushing the throttle as hard as it can go, even on the small streets of Wintertown. Jon sits with one hand gripping the door handle, the other braced out in front of him on the dash.
“You should see your face, man,” Egg laughs, mouth wide, teeth glinting in the streetlights – sharp and dangerous. That same, reckless laughter Jon remembers from their father.
Sirens wail behind them and Jon knows this is it. This is where he finally dies, this is where everything catches up with him. At an intersection, Egg runs a red light, has to swerve to avoid an oncoming car.
“No, no, no, no,” Jon chants, shutting his eyes and bracing for impact. He doesn't know what they hit, just that he's thrown forward, the airbag slamming into his chest, the sound of crunching metal and squealing tires and sirens.
He feels groggy and weak as his eyes open, bright lights flashing and making him wince.
"Hands up! Get them up!" someone shouts. The police. "Hands on the dash where I can see them!"
For just a moment, Jon thinks about running. Pushing open the door, leaving Egg, and going as fast as his legs will take him. But his chest aches and his lungs burn and his head is spinning and so instead, he puts his hands up.

In case you didn't know istumpysk did a big asoiaf reread where they went through every chapter and since they're a jonsa a lot of it is from a sansa and jon centric frame and they found and highlighted so many possible foreshadowings (not just for jonsa but also for the inidvidual characters and like stuff that the big name fans who think the series will end with jonerys, targ restoration, sansa married off to like harry hardyng or dying after killing sweetrobin would never even consider) and parallels it's insane I'd def recommend checking it out it also helped me when I was doing my reread since I had trouble with all the diff background characters
omg thx if I ever actually get to doing that re read I'll definitely parallel read this analysis! I always love when more intelligent people than me have shit to say about media I love it makes engaging with it a much more enriching experience!

I just saw a post that Lyanna and Sansa have similar personalities/parallel stories like...what?? Apart from being women in feudal society I dont get this, where is this coming from.
It's coming from a place of wanting Sansa's character to have more plot important connections to the Starks and the North and more narrative importance. For Jonsa shippers it also comes from a place of making up more connections to Jon Snow, since they think everything revolves around Sansa in the books like how Dany's vision of the blue flower on the Wall (Lyanna's son Jon) is actually about Sansa 😂
The author specifically parallels Arya and Lyanna in the text of the books for some narrative purpose. To then go and say, well no, the real parallels are between Lyanna and Sansa or that Arya and Sansa BOTH share similarities and parallels with Lyanna is diluting the book's narrative and characterization that's there for a reason.
They can do that in their fanfiction and AU alternate worlds if they like, but in the books, that's an entire story in there with Arya being Lyanna like and her relationship with Lyanna's son and Jon's admiration of girls like Arya who is very like his mother. As a tertiary, background flashback character, Lyanna Stark serves two aspects - as Jon's mother and as Arya's literary mirror.

One of the reasons I believe in Aegony romance is actually bc of Jonnel and Sansa. JD is the foreground couple while Jonsa is in the background. GRRM had the audience look at the Stark family tree about th rare avunculate marriage. Imagine being an aegony and to prove that the North will be okay with "it's not technically incest" marriage you have to look at the names of Jonnel and Sansa.💀Actually, they ignore Jonnsa. If I go to public forums, I'll mostly see Edric and Serena used as examples when they try to get rid of the incest label between JD. Curious as to why when you'd think they'll use Sansa 1)bc she has a namesake 2)is the first born thus more important as the heir. Why use the little sister or not both?👀 They know in their hearts of hearts. The antis cannot talk about the technicalities of incest between a Jonnel and Sansa bc Jon's response to it would be "Longspear's not your brother." Jon spoke like a true politician.😂😂

I really appreciate that you let the characters in your fics be the characters they are. Obviously different setting/background will alter characters somewhat but some writers fics I've read (mostly stopped reading pretty quickly because the character work is so bad) I wonder if the writer even watched the show let alone knows the books exist.
I've noticed that Jonsa fic writers generally do a better job of writing the characters not just Jon and Sansa but other characters too.
I hope you and other Jonsa writers know how much the fandom appreciates you!
Thank you so much!

hi girl, i just wanted to let you know how dearly I miss the jonsa professor/student fic. that was such a beautiful story and I miss them everyday
literally always in awe at the beauty you're able to create, hope one day you republish those fics<3
oh, this is just lovely, you are beyond lovely 🫶🏼 can’t q believe those fics are coming up four years old(!!) they absolutely consumed me when I was writing them, I remember sitting upstairs in a cafe in Cambridge with my laptop just pouring out the filthiest things whilst my friend was prepping for an annual review opposite me & church-bells were ringing in the background, lol; they are a singular time & space in my life, one I look back on with a mixture of fondness & discomfort so they’ll stay hidden in the vault for now but you never know—maybe one day I’ll come good on my jokey promise to self-publish them & they’ll be out in the world again albeit in whatever altered form! thank you for your words, they truly mean the world to me. ✨ x

Have three!
Jonsa
Gendarya/Gendrya
Ned/Cat
Hi darling!!! Thank you for the ask!!!
Jonsa: C. I really like some takes on Jonsa and I really don’t like others. I’m *picky.* it’s no secret that I tend to like darker ships, more generally, and I trend towards that in Jonsa as well. I honestly think my reaction against Jonsa has more to do with a lot of the meta writing side of fandom and really aggressive and dogmatic fans of Jonsa rather than having much to do people creating fanworks for them. Fan behavior can really turn me off of a ship easily and I think that has happened here. This side of fandom scares me and so I tend to…avoid it because of that. I don’t think they’re necessarily a given in canon and I don’t think…it would be a happy ending for them if it happened. I think a lot of Jonsa thought can come at the sacrifice of other characters’ nuance, arcs, and significance to the narrative—Daenerys is Evil, Tyrion is a Villain, Arya is a Brat, Bran is going to be A Tree, Satin doesn’t Exist, etc etc etc and it’s sort of like? Not that simple. I also have a very very strong interest in queer readings of both of these characters and a lot of fanwork interpretation of them…is extremely heterosexual. So I guess…when it’s good, it’s great, but I don’t spend enough time reading it (with the exception of specific authors) to really know if my pov on them is popular or not.
Gendry/Arya: B; I think they’re super cute! They have a high school sweethearts vibe…but I sort of love them best as friends? I used to like them better earlier in my life, I guess. So I like them in the background of a fic but I sort of don’t need to read…like their whole romance. They’re cute in whatever situation.
Ned/Cat: a++++; get you a man who dies for YOUR character development. I seriously am obsessed with them. Perfect pairing. *chef’s kiss*
What about you?

If Lyanna and Rhaegar marriage actually happened in books, it would have similarities with Sansa-Tyrion marriage. Marriage in south with southern lord/Prince. Plus no one from brides family there. Kingsguard presence. Tyrion wearing Targ colors especially rubies. Septon influence by groom's family.
(about this reblog)
I like how your mind works, anon!
I once wrote about how certain beats in Sansa’s story weirdly have Rhaegar hovering in the background which kinda makes it feel like we’re getting clues about Lyanna’s story:
(link)
I’m not actually dedicated to a R/L marriage because I’ve pointed out before that Jon being a Targ bastard who must go up against trueborn Targs is a fun development of his angst regarding his bastardy. It would kinda be fulfilling every negative trope about bastards except it would be the necessary and right thing to do.
Despite that thought, I don’t dismiss the possibility of some form of legitimacy either (Rhaegar being a dumbass means him taking a second wife, whether others would recognize it, feels plausible?) because that gives us the potential for some fun parallels. Either this:
Aemon Targaryen, Jon thought, a king's son and a king's brother and a king who might have been. But he said nothing. (ASOS, Jon X)
Or even better, an heir who rejects it all for love. That fits with the idea of Jon as the Prince of Dragonflies (meta) and works nicely with the assumed chain of events/Jonsa (short post).

for the fic writers questions: 3, 4 (fic choice up to you), 7, 12, 13, 41 & 42 :)
ty for sending so many!!!
3. What are some tropes or details that you think are very characteristic of your fics?
ummm they're very demisexual a lot of the time 🥲 nobody kisses until they're in LOVE love usually lmao. or at the very least a strong basis of "i love you as a person" before it gets to "i'm in love with you"
4. What detail in [insert fic] are you really proud of?
i think there are a lot of really fun easter eggs in howl!!!!!! there are lots of horror references in scream but given the sansa pov i sprinkled in a lot of romcom references in the first howl. in scream 2, the initial victims have names related to the victims from the first scream, so in howl 2, i kept that true to the ~message~ of the killer but pulled scream character names for the other bits of it. so like in scream 2, the initial victims are maureen evans and phil stevens — ghostface's nods to maureen prescott and steven orth. in howl 2, my initial victims needed to be references to catelyn tully and ned stark, so i named them tully prescott and eddard becker (like casey). also the moment when tyrion is talking about going on a talk show i changed it from diane sawyer to gayle king so it could be a lil wink to gale weathers. :)
7. Any worldbuilding you’re particularly proud of?
lmao the worldbuilding in all the right reasons (all the right places) is probably unnecessarily complicated for what the fic needed to be!!! obviously i did not create the bachelor world BUT i did get very into like. ok. steve is the bachelor. how did he BECOME the bachelor. how do i adapt his canon storyline. if he's besties with robin it's presumably after a fall from grace. and i pulled a lot of bachelor storylines to build that out like.
it's very much a combination of nick viall going on the show a bunch of times/being kind of a dickish runner up plus becca kufrin last minute swap sympathy arc plus nick viall paradise redemption to bachelor journey but i think if you look at it it really mirrors his canon storyline!!! also all the names of girlies mentioned of seasons past/present are names pulled from stranger things canon so that's fun too
but yeah i mean given that it's basically all back story before the fic even starts (also that it is secondary to the main chrissy/robin romance) it was really more just for fun and to make the world make sense to me of how we got here so!! i think it's interesting
the background targaryen/martell politics for the royal records (jonsa princess diaries au) was also fun and took me a bit to stump through before i was like ah ok i know why dany would now be seeking jon as an heir
12. Are there any tropes you used to dislike but have grown on you?
hmmmm. the only thing that really comes to mind here is like... omegaverse lol. it's still not really my thing (the animal aspect of it doesn't really have any appeal and scent glands in particular is a squick that i also simply do not understand like what are they supposed to be!!!) but i can fuck with the elements of it that's like. soulmate adjacent. biological irrepressible need to fuck RIGHT NOW!!! also this person smells great to me and everyone else is blech. lmao.
13. Are there any tropes you used to like but don’t anymore?
much as i love an au i'm not really into crossovers at all which i used to be much more willing to entertain. i'm a very like "this must make sense" type of reader/writer and it's a lot of logical leaps for me usually. i also used to be a lot more willing to entertain incest ship stuff (which was sometimes a necessity for jonsa) but i much prefer when that is not an element at play (so like a modern au where they're not related at all, or a canon interpretation where they know they're not siblings by the point they come to care about each other romantically).
41. Link a fic that made you think, “Wow, I want to write like that.”
i think i don't have the energy to really attempt this but i looooooooved chrissy and eddie's infinite mixtape from @little-scribblers-heart and especially loved how rosie included references for each chapter in the notes at the bottom. i thought it was a really cool way to incorporate either knowledge about the era or all the research put into it!!! the writing of the fic is amazing in general but i was always super impressed by the work that went into that aspect of it, too.
42. Have you ever received a comment that particularly stood out to you for whatever reason?
not to put her on blast but @beholdthemem will occasionally spoil me with gorgeous in-depth psychoanalysis about my characters and that always makes me go 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 whenever she has thoughts about something i've written i always know i am going to be given a very special gift!!!!!!! these days we're usually chatting over discord rather than leaving comments exactly (btw if anyone wants to be discord friends always feel free to hmu in tumblr messages) but it still counts!!
that said every comment means a lot to me 😭 especially if it is about how a fic made you feel or a lil bit you really loved or a lil bit of commentary on piece of it. truly i am fueled by comments!! motivated by comments!! and i try not to beg for them but i do need them to keep going!!!!!! so anytime someone takes time to leave a thoughtful comment know that i am thinking about it and going back to read it a couple of times!!
