And old Azzi interview from 2021 before UConn where she talks about her recovery, shows off her Nutella collection, and talks about how excited she is to play with Paige at UConn. 🔎
https://www.instagram.com/tv/CMLfmgTHMCI/?igsh=MXVybW8wdTNyaTA2cA==
The fact that he was silent for the first 20 seconds freaked me out😭. Azzi said she was grateful for the experience (of her ACL and MCL injury)😔. Her favorite Kobe quotes that she's kept for years on her board really represent who she is: “The most important thing is to try to inspire people so that they can be great at whatever they want to do” and “the moment you give up is the moment someone else wins.” She's just a wonderful human being with the biggest heart🫂. That's her brand, perseverance and hard work. I need another ESPN cover story where they ask her what are her goals for this season. I'm a Nutella girl too, but her collection is insane. I still remember when she showed off the ones she had in her backpack from school💀. The fact that she was excited to play with Paige will never hurt when you know how it turned out next.

Being the daughter of the spymaster, it almost made Hazel seem like some sort of elite fae that some feared while others pitied. The people that feared her, Hazel could understand the place they were coming from. But it was the other group that befuddled Hazel.
Why would they pity her? Did they think her father was an abuser of some kind?
Of course, he towered over a lot of people, and his physique made him known as a ruthless warrior. And yeah, maybe he also did have the most spectacular reputation to go with it, but it did not warrant people thinking he bullied Hazel too.
Or maybe it did, but Hazel could not bring herself to understand that part.
Azriel had always been the most gentle, calm and loving parent anyone could ever ask for. He was the furthest thing from mean. Hazel had never seen him get angry or raise his voice.
And it made Hazel wonder. What would be the situation in which Azriel raised his voice?
Hazel knew the one person Azriel loved the most was Y/n. He could act all he wanted when he wanted to irk Y/n that Hazel came first for him, but Hazel knew that if it came to it, he would sacrifice the whole world, her and then himself to please his wife.
And so when she asked her father, his answer came as no surprise.
"Dad, will I ever see you lose your temper?"
He laughed, his eyes not leaving the vegetables he stirred in the pan for lunch. "Maybe if someone bullies your mother, you just might."
Hazel smiled, nodding. She turned to look outside the window that faced their porch, looking at all the people that passed. Their house was in one of the quietest areas of Velaris, and so only sparse groups of people lingered around, mostly kids and housewives.
As she continued pondering his answer, her eyes fell on her mother returning from the market nearby. Hazel grinned, beginning to turn to her father to tease him about it, but then she looked closer at Y/n.
She looked disturbed, brows furrowed and lips pursed.
"Dad?"
Azriel hummed, glancing at Hazel.
"Does mom look worried to you?"
Hazel heard him draw closer, peering over her shoulder. "Mom?"
"Yeah, look."
Hazel glanced at Azriel, watching as his brows drew together and his jaw hardened.
"A male’s following her."
Hazel blinked, then turned to look. Sure enough, she saw a man come into view, jeering at Y/n’s back. Y/n was almost to the gate that opened into their lawn, and she kept glancing back at the man.
"He’s dead if he doesn’t leave."
Hazel would have smiled, but the seriousness in her father’s voice told her he wasn’t jesting.
The two watched as Y/n tried to shut the gate behind her, but the man’s foot wedged inside as he smirked triumphantly at Y/n.
And the presence of Azriel was gone from behind Hazel.
The door opened, and Hazel turned in time to see Azriel practically fly out the door, Truthteller clutched in his hand.
Oh, someone’s dying today.
"Back off!" Hazel hurried over to the door to peer out at the scene, eyes wide as her father called out.
The man’s face crumpled in fear, and he took a step back from Y/n, who turned to look at her husband. If Hazel had to be honest, it was quite funny watching one of the most feared males in all of prythian stand in front of his house with a red shirt and a stained apron on, threatening a male in broad daylight without a care.
"I swear to the mother if I see you ever again, you are going to be buried before you can even blink." Azriel growled, brandishing his dagger.
"For-forgive me, sir. I did not know she was yours-"
"And that should not matter. Don’t let me catch you harassing another female again, or-"
But that man was gone.
Azriel turned to Y/n, smiling. "Are you alright?"
Y/n grinned at him. "I am."
Azriel effortlessly grabbed the bags from his wife’s hands and shifted them to one of his, then wrapped the other one around her waist.
"Did he do something?"
Y/n shook her head, laughing. "You almost killed him before he could."
Azriel grinned, smug. "Glad to hear that."
He led his wife inside the house, casting a searching look outside before closing the door. Y/n shot Hazel an exasperated smile behind his back, making her giggle.
Hazel had always wished to have a love like her parents, but each day, she wondered if she would rather stay by herself.
Because there was no way there was someone out there who loved as Azriel loved Y/n.

no way
pazzi again
@bueckersstrap needed me to clarify they are in an established relationship during this fic
“azzi, everything hurts.”
“well, paige, maybe everything wouldn’t hurt if you calmed the fuck down for maybe one day? it was a recovery day, too, damn it.”
paige shook her head, letting herself collapse on top of azzi, pushing her face against her neck.
“paige, move, you’re literally suffocating me.”
“you literally just told me to get out of the gym, now you’re calling me fat? pick a side, princess.”
azzi shoves paige onto her side, grinning a bit when she hears the older girl whimper in pain. she moves right back against azzi, tucking herself against her as tight as she can.
“make me feel better,” she demands, tugging azzis arm to lay across her back.
“i don’t know what you want me to do about that! just go to sleep and maybe it’ll be better in the morning, i guess?”
“i’m never gonna be able to sleep like this! take pity on me,”
azzi holds in her laugh, trying to disguise it with a cough before saying, “what in the world would i even do?”
“i don’t know, make out with me or something? god, it’s like you forget you’re like the hottest woman on this planet,” paige tells her, exasperated.
azzi blushes, moving both her arms to wrap around paige, maneuvering so the two of them are face to face. she’s so close she can feel paige grin.
“damn, so close and not even gonna kiss me,” paige whines, pouting. azzi leans in, attempting to press a chaste kiss against her mouth. paige, ever the opportunistic one, slowly moves a hand up to cup against azzis neck, keeping her close. she sighs, knowing that the current distraction from her aching body won’t work in the morning.
“there’s actually no way i’m more sore this morning than i was last night.”
that’s the statement azzi wakes up to, and if she pretends to be asleep for just a few moments longer, before paige starts to prod her, well, she probably deserves it.

It’ll Always Be Her Chapter 11
AN: This was one of my favorite chapters to write so it’s definitely on the longer side so prepare for that lol. Let me know what you think and if there’s anything specific you want to see in this story or another one.
Warning: Suggestive content/language
Word Count: 8.2k
After their stellar game, Paige and Azzi sat side by side at the press table, still riding the high of their combined 49 points. The room buzzed with energy, and reporters were eager to hear more about the game, as well as any upcoming plans. Paige and Azzi exchanged a brief glance, their chemistry impossible to miss, even before the first question was asked.
A reporter from the local sports network, tall and holding a microphone, cleared his throat. “Paige, Azzi, you two were on fire tonight. The chemistry on the court was undeniable. Can you speak to how your partnership has evolved this season? What’s been the key to making this dynamic work?”
Paige grinned and leaned slightly toward Azzi, her fingers tapping lightly on the table. “Well, Azzi and I have been working together for a while now,” Paige began, her voice light but genuine. “I think we’ve just gotten to know each other’s style. We’ve figured out when to take control and when to give each other space.”
Azzi shot Paige a playful glance. “Yeah, space,” she teased, leaning a little closer to Paige. “But also, she makes me look good. I’m basically just along for the ride, right?”
Paige rolled her eyes, chuckling. “Oh, please. You know you’re carrying us half the time.”
Azzi raised an eyebrow, nudging Paige under the table. “Alright, alright, but you have been keeping up this season,” she said, her voice smooth and teasing. “You deserve some of the credit.”
Paige grinned, clearly enjoying the banter. “And you’re doing your part to make sure I don’t slack off,” she responded, her hand brushing against Azzi’s. “But, hey, you’re the one always talking about how we’re the best duo.”
The same reporter again, “How exactly do your skill sets fit one another.”
Paige nodded towards Azzi, showing that she wanted her to answer the question.
Azzi looked at Paige, feigning frustration. “Well, clearly you’ve been talking the entire time. You answer this one,” she said, nudging Paige again, this time with a little more force.
Paige raised an eyebrow, giving Azzi a pointed look. “Oh, I see how it is. I’ve been talking all this time, huh? You can’t just leave me to handle it.”
Azzi smirked and, under the table, playfully jabbed Paige in the leg. “You’re good at answering, so go ahead.”
Paige shook her head, fighting a smile. “Fine, fine. Since you’re so tired from carrying the team,” she said, grinning before she turned back to the reporter. “Like I was saying, it’s all about balance. Azzi’s got the worlds most perfect shot, and I have the court vision and pull to get her the ball. We’re a perfect match.”
The reporter smiled, clearly enjoying their dynamic. “It’s definitely a great partnership. You both played with such intensity tonight. How do you manage to stay focused and not let distractions get in the way of such a big game?”
Azzi leaned forward, her hand subtly brushing against Paige’s again under the table. “Well, staying focused is easy when you’ve got someone like Paige on the court. We’ve been working together for a while, and we know what we need to do to keep it together when the game gets intense,” Azzi answered smoothly, giving Paige a quick wink that the cameras can’t see.
Paige smirked and leaned back slightly in her chair, shooting Azzi a knowing look. “I guess Azzi just has to keep me in line when I get too fired up. It’s her job to calm me down.”
Azzi let out a playful sigh, pretending to be exasperated. “It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it.”
The second reporter, a woman with short, dark hair and glasses, raised her hand. “Paige, Azzi, you two clearly have a great bond on the court, but with everything that comes with your visibility—media, fans—how do you manage the pressure and stay focused on what’s important?”
Paige chuckled, turning to Azzi with a teasing grin. “Oh, I think we’re doing just fine managing the ‘pressure.’ It’s all about trust, right?”
Azzi smirked, leaning toward Paige as if sharing a private joke. “Totally. I trust that you’ll answer every single question while I just… relax here,” she said with a goofy smile, while she visibly grabs Paige’s arm.
Paige rolled her eyes but played along, shifting her posture a bit. “Like I was saying earlier it’s all about trust and knowing where one another is in the court. Today there was a little miss hap where I thought Azzi was going to cut but she flared to the three point line which she teased me about.”
Azzi leaned in even closer, her voice lowering playfully. “I know. It’s a burden, but I handle it well.” Her hand subtly brushed against Paige’s leg once more, the touch lingering for a moment. “You’ll get it next time.”
Paige kept her cool, a slight flush creeping up her neck as she tried to focus on the interview. The two of them shared an unspoken understanding, and the chemistry between them was palpable, though they kept things lighthearted for the cameras.
“Anything else you’d like to share with your fans before the holidays?” the reporter asked, wrapping up the interview.
Paige exchanged a glance with Azzi, both of them aware of the upcoming trip to Virginia. “Well, I think we’ll both be heading out soon for some family time,” Paige said casually, though there was a spark in her eyes as she looked at Azzi. “But we’re not slowing down, not one bit. We’ll definitely still be putting some work in though.”
Azzi smiled, the playful tension still hanging in the air. “Definitely not. We’ve got more to prove, and we’re ready for whatever comes next. But for now, it’s time to recharge a little.”
As the reporters wrapped up, Paige and Azzi stood, their chemistry clear to everyone in the room. Azzi flashed a grin and gave Paige a playful nudge under the table, making sure no one could miss the subtle connection between them
After the post-game interview, Azzi and Paige headed to Azzi's room to shower. They didn’t waste any time, opting to take a quick shower together. Once they were done, they got dressed and made their way downstairs, where Katie and Tim, Azzi’s parents, were waiting by the car.
The drive to Virginia started off lively, with plenty of jokes and banter between Paige and Azzi, as she was practically a part of the family. Paige was extremely close with Azzi’s parents, and it was clear from the way they interacted. Katie and Tim couldn’t help but laugh at their lighthearted teasing.
However, as the drive wore on and the excitement from the game wore off, both Azzi and Paige started to drift off. The conversation died down, and the car became quiet, save for the soft hum of the engine and the occasional chuckle from Katie or Tim who were talking in the front.
By the time Tim pulled into the driveway, both Azzi and Paige had curled up in the backseat, exhausted from the game. They had spread across all three seats, Azzi draped comfortably over Paige’s chest like it was second nature.
Katie glanced in the rearview mirror and shook her head, a soft smile on her face as she looked at the two of them. “I wonder when those two are going to admit their feelings for one another,” she commented, not realizing how accurate her words were. Tim, glancing over at Katie, simply chuckled in response, unaware that Azzi and Paige had already confessed to each other long ago.
Azzi and Paige were still half-asleep when they stumbled out of the car, dragging themselves into the house and heading straight to Azzi’s room. They didn’t even bother changing out of their sweats; both of them collapsed into the bed, barely able to keep their eyes open before they fell asleep, the events of the day finally catching up to them.
The next morning Azzi woke up groggily, her eyes fluttering open to the soft morning light filtering through the window. For a moment, she lay there, disoriented, before realizing something felt off. She turned her head, scanning the empty space beside her. Paige wasn’t there. Azzi deciding to get up to find the blonde brushed her teeth before going downstairs.
As she made her way downstairs, still in her sweats and a loose shirt, Azzi couldn’t help but wonder where Paige had gone. When she rounded the corner into the living room, she found her, and the sight made her stop dead in her tracks.
Paige was sitting on the couch, focused on a game of Fortnite with Jose. Her grey sweats and hoodie did little to mask her allure, the casual attire only making her look more effortlessly sexy. She was sitting with her legs spread wide, she was slightly leaned over both of her hands wrapped around the controller playing the game. Her hair was pulled up into a messy bun, and her entire posture exuded an effortless confidence that made Azzi's heart skip a beat.
Azzi’s eyes involuntarily flickered to Paige’s legs, they looked inviting the way she had them spread open, practically begging Azzi to crawl into her lap. But they were surrounded by Azzi’s family, and that probably wasn’t the best idea yet. So instead, after hugging her family, Azzi walked over and sat beside Paige on the couch, her feet lightly brushing against Paige’s spread legs. Without a second thought, Azzi swung her legs over, draping them casually across Paige's lap. Her feet hung off the edge, just out of the open space between Paige's legs, but the intimacy of the gesture wasn’t lost on either of them.
Paige didn’t look up immediately, but Azzi could feel the subtle shift in the air. Her teasing smile lingered as she leaned back, her head resting on the arm of the couch, trying to act casual but unable to keep the warmth spreading through her chest at the closeness of their bodies. Paige, finally having a chance to address Azzi’s presence, turned her head, her smile wide and playful as she paused her game.
"Hey, you," Paige said, her voice warm, but there was a playful glint in her eyes. "You look like you slept like a rock."
Azzi raised an eyebrow, leaning closer as she responded, "That’s because I did. The bed wasn’t comfortable without you in it, though."
Paige's grin widened, and she placed a hand on Azzi’s leg, letting it rest there for a beat too long. "Well, I’m glad you’re here now," she teased, her touch sending a thrill up Azzi’s spine.
Azzi felt the heat rise in her cheeks but refused to break eye contact. "Yeah, yeah. Just don’t get too cocky," she teased back, shifting her legs slightly on Paige’s lap, enjoying the intimacy but trying to play it cool in front of her family.
Katie, overhearing them, smirked from the kitchen, shaking her head as she continued preparing breakfast. Tim glanced over with a knowing look, but neither of them said anything—this was just another morning with Azzi and Paige being, well, Azzi and Paige.
The day passed in a comforting haze. Paige and Azzi had spent most of their time settling into the house, helping Katie and Tim with small chores, and simply basking in the warm atmosphere of family. The couple didn’t need to hide their affection too much—they blended so seamlessly into the family dynamic that no one batted an eye at their closeness.
As evening rolled around, the smell of roasted vegetables and seasoned meats filled the air, signaling dinner was approaching. Paige was helping set the table when Azzi’s grandmother, seated in the armchair, casually brought up a topic that made Azzi nearly drop the glass she was holding.
“Oh, Azzi,” her grandmother began, folding her hands neatly in her lap. “I ran into Josh’s mother at the store yesterday. I told her you were in town, and she said Josh should stop by.”
Azzi froze, the name alone sending an uncomfortable jolt through her. “Josh?” she repeated, her voice betraying her disbelief. “Prom date Josh?”
“Yes, that Josh!” her grandmother confirmed with a delighted smile. “He’s such a sweet boy. I thought it would be nice for you two to catch up.”
Azzi blinked, her heart racing. She stole a quick glance at Paige, who was watching with a barely concealed smirk, clearly enjoying the situation. Azzi cleared her throat. “Uh, I’m not sure that’s a good idea, Grandma. It’s been… a long time. It’d probably be awkward.”
“Nonsense,” her grandmother said, waving a dismissive hand. “You two were such good friends. What’s a little catching up?”
Paige chuckled softly from the other side of the table, shaking her head. “Yeah, Azzi,” she teased, her tone laced with playful sarcasm. “What’s a little catching up?”
Azzi shot her a look but couldn’t stop her lips from twitching upward. This was going to be interesting.
An hour later, just as the family was putting the finishing touches on dinner, the doorbell rang. Azzi’s heart sank as her grandmother rushed to answer it, her voice warm and welcoming as she greeted Josh.
When Josh walked in, he looked almost exactly the same as Azzi remembered—tall, lean, and carrying himself with the easy confidence of someone who knew he’d been invited somewhere fondly. He opened his arms for a hug, his face lighting up when he saw Azzi. “Azzi! It’s been forever.”
Azzi stepped forward but, instead of leaning into the hug, extended her hand. “Hey, Josh. Long time no see.” She gave him a polite smile, keeping her distance. Josh’s enthusiasm dimmed slightly as he adjusted, shaking her hand instead.
Before he could say anything else, Paige rose from her seat behind Azzi. Her 6 '1 frame behind Azzi immediately drew Josh’s attention, and the very subtle height difference was enough to give Paige a slight edge. She stepped forward, lingering just behind Azzi, her movements relaxed but deliberate, and extended her hand with a confident smile.
“Wassup, I’m Paige,” she said, her tone polite but laced with something unmistakably coy. “Azzi’s best friend.”
Josh hesitated for a second, shaking her hand, his grip firm but uncertain. “Nice to meet you,” he said, his eyes flickering between Paige and Azzi.
Paige, ever the picture of calm, walked over and dropped back onto the couch next to Jon and Jose. She sprawled out, legs spread wide, her arms resting over the back as the three of them continued whatever they were doing. It was a casual posture, but there was an unmistakable aura of dominance that filled the room. Azzi couldn’t help but steal glances, her mind wandering as her eyes traced the curve of Paige’s jaw and the way her hoodie hung off her shoulders.
Josh, seemingly oblivious to the tension simmering beneath the surface, started chatting with Azzi about old high school memories. Azzi responded politely, but her answers weren’t as enthusiastic, her body language leaning away from the boy. Paige, meanwhile, stayed quiet, her smirk growing as she noticed Azzi’s constantly looking at her.
The dining room was alive with chatter as the family settled in for dinner. The table was packed, with Katie and Tim at either end, Azzi’s grandparents on one side with Jon and Jose who were across from Azzi and Paige who sat next time one another. Josh, much to Paige’s amusement, sat beside Azzi, wedged awkwardly between her and Tim in a corner portion of the table.
Paige leaned back in her chair, content as she watched the plates pass around. The smell of roasted vegetables, seasoned meats, and fresh rolls filled the room. It was cozy, warm, the kind of family gathering that Paige had come to cherish.
“So, Azzi,” her grandmother began, breaking the peaceful rhythm of clinking silverware. “Remember I told you I ran into Josh’s mother at the store the other day.” Essentially repeating her and Azzi’s conversation earlier, her way of casually bringing up the boy sitting next to Azzi.
Azzi’s hand, mid-reach for a roll, froze. “Yes?” she said, her voice a little too high, a little too careful.
“Yes,” her grandmother said, her eyes lighting up. “We had the nicest chat. Such a sweet woman. I told her you were in town, and she thought Josh should stop by.”
Azzi blinked, her throat tightening. “You did?” she asked, feigning surprise as they’ve already had this conversation, though her tone betrayed her growing discomfort.
Paige, sitting relaxed beside her, was already smirking. Azzi felt her foot nudge against Paige’s under the table—a silent plea for support. Paige, of course, ignored it.
“He’s such a sweet boy,” her grandmother continued, her smile unwavering. “I thought it’d be lovely for you two to catch up. You always got along so well.”
Josh chuckled, his cheeks reddening slightly. “It’s been a while,” he said, looking at Azzi. “But yeah, I’d love to catch up.”
Azzi forced a polite smile, her fingers tightening slightly around her fork. “Grandma, I’m not sure that’s such a good idea,” she said, her voice measured. “We haven’t seen each other in years. It might be…awkward.”
“Nonsense!” her grandmother waved her hand as if brushing away Azzi’s concerns. “You’re both grown now. What’s a little catching up?”
Paige chuckled, the sound low and teasing. “Yeah, Azzi,” she said, drawing out her words with a playful edge. “What’s a little catching up?”
Azzi shot her a glare, but Paige’s eyes sparkled with mischief, clearly enjoying her discomfort. Then, beneath the table, Paige’s hand found its way to Azzi’s knee, her fingers brushing lightly before settling in a gentle but suggestive grip. The touch was subtle, yet deliberate enough to send a jolt through Azzi. She shifted slightly, fighting to keep her expression neutral as a flush crept up her neck.
Katie, picking up on Azzi’s discomfort, stepped in. “Mom, Azzi’s got a lot on her plate,” she said, her tone calm but firm. “I’m sure she’d love to catch up another time, but maybe not this visit.”
Josh, trying to stay polite, smiled. “It’s all good. I don’t want to impose or anything.”
“Oh, it’s no imposition,” her grandmother insisted, clearly not ready to drop the subject. “It’s so rare to have everyone together these days. Besides, I think you two made a lovely couple at prom.”
Azzi nearly choked on her drink. “Grandma, that was years ago.”
“And yet, here you are,” her grandmother said, her tone as cheerful as ever. “Such a handsome boy, don’t you think, Paige?”
Paige, who had been quietly enjoying the spectacle, raised an eyebrow at the sudden shift. “Oh, absolutely,” she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “Prom royalty, if I recall correctly.”
Josh laughed, clearly not catching the undertone. “Yeah, those were good times.”
Azzi’s leg pressed against Paige’s under the table, grounding her, but it also served as a warning. Paige, for her part, was having the time of her life. She leaned in slightly, her voice low enough for only Azzi to hear, her breath warm against Azzi’s ear. “Relax,” she murmured, her thumb pressing slightly into Azzi’s thigh.
Azzi bit the inside of her cheek, her lips twitching in a strained smile as her grandmother continued. The table’s attention swung back to Azzi’s grandmother, who had clearly decided she wasn’t done. “Josh, did you know Azzi’s been playing phenomenally this season?” she said, her voice brimming with pride.
“I heard,” Josh said, smiling. “Azzi’s always been a star.”
“She sure has,” Katie added, glancing at Azzi with a knowing look. “But she’s got a lot of responsibilities now. Not much time for old flames.”
Azzi groaned internally, wishing she could sink into the floor. “Mom…”
“What?” Katie said innocently. “Just stating the facts.”
Paige’s hand pressed slightly harder near Azzi’s knee, her thumb moving in a slow, deliberate stroke that made Azzi’s breath catch again. Azzi straightened in her chair, doing her best to appear unaffected, though her hand gripped her fork tightly enough that her knuckles whitened.
Dinner carried on, the clatter of utensils and hum of conversation creating a cozy backdrop. Despite the familial warmth, Azzi was struggling to keep her composure. Paige, seated close beside her, was a constant distraction. Every brush of her arm, every subtle glance, kept Azzi hyper-aware of her presence.
It didn’t help that Paige’s hand was still under the table, now resting lightly on Azzi’s thigh. At first, the touch was barely there—a gentle warmth, almost comforting. But as the conversation drifted on, Paige’s fingers began to move with maddening precision.
Azzi felt Paige’s thumb start to draw slow circles again, the pressure light but insistent. Each stroke sent a ripple of warmth up her leg, making it harder for Azzi to focus on anything else. She shifted in her seat, trying to subtly pull away, but Paige only followed, her touch trailing higher.
Azzi’s responses to Josh and her grandmother grew more clipped as she tried to concentrate on the conversation. “Yeah, that was a good game,” she said, her voice tighter than she intended when Josh brought up a high school basketball memory. Her usual calm was slipping, and she knew Paige was reveling in it.
“Do you remember that crazy after-party?” Josh continued, completely oblivious.
Azzi forced a smile. “Uh-huh. Wild times.”
Her hand tightened around her fork as Paige’s fingers pressed slightly deeper into her thigh, now tracing faint patterns along the sensitive skin. The touch wasn’t overt—nothing anyone at the table would notice—but it was enough to send her pulse racing. She could feel her heartbeat in her ears, her body betraying her as heat pooled in her stomach.
Paige leaned in slightly, her voice low, just for Azzi. “You’re awfully quiet, babe,” she murmured, the word deliberately loaded. Her breath was warm against Azzi’s ear, and Azzi had to clench her jaw to stop herself from reacting.
“—he’s such a sweet boy,” Azzi hears her grandmother continuing her plea from the beginning of dinner, her smile unwavering. “Azzi, are you sure you don’t have time to catch up? You always got along so well.”
Azzi forced a polite smile, her fingers tightening slightly around her fork. “Grandma, I really just don’t have the time. I’m only here for a little while,” she said, her voice measured.
Azzi shot her grandmother a grateful look as she seemingly was going to drop it, but it was short-lived. Paige’s hand slid just a fraction higher, her thumb now grazing the inside of Azzi’s thigh, dangerously close to crossing a line. Azzi inhaled sharply, her knee jerking slightly under the table. She hastily reached for her water, hoping the cool liquid would calm the fire raging in her.
“Careful, Paige,” Azzi muttered under her breath as she sipped her water, just loud enough for Paige to hear.
Paige smirked, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “Careful with what?” she whispered back, her tone feigning innocence. Her fingers paused for a moment, then gave a gentle squeeze that made Azzi’s breath hitch.
“Everything okay?” Josh asked, his brow furrowing as he noticed Azzi’s sudden silence.
Azzi plastered on a smile, though her voice came out a little strained. “Yeah, fine. Just…thinking about the game.”
Josh nodded, accepting the explanation, but Paige’s smirk only deepened. Her hand shifted slightly, her pinky brushing the edge of Azzi’s inner thigh in a way that made Azzi bite her lip. She could feel her cheeks heating, and she reached under the table to grab Paige’s wrist, squeezing it in a silent plea for mercy.
Paige relented—barely. She slid her hand back down to Azzi’s knee but left it there, her thumb still occasionally brushing against her in a way that kept Azzi’s nerves on edge.
The conversation moved on, but Azzi barely registered it. Every time she thought she had regained her composure, Paige would shift or press her thumb in just the right way to send another jolt of heat through her.
Her grandfather, who had been silent up until now, cleared his throat, drawing everyones attention. “You know,” he said, his voice gruff but steady, “I like Paige better anyway. She always knows how to make Azzi feel good.”
The table went dead silent for a beat before Paige, who had just taken a sip of her drink, sputtered, nearly choking as she coughed into her napkin. Azzi’s eyes widened, her face heating up as she turned to her grandfather.
“Grandpa!” she exclaimed, horrified. Azzi turned to Paige, whose face was now red from coughing and shock. Gently placing a hand on Paige’s back, “Are you okay?” she asked softly, her voice filled with concern. Paige nodded, still coughing into her napkin, as Azzi rubbed soothing circles between her shoulder blades.
“What?” he said, shrugging as if it was the most natural statement in the world. “She’s got a good head on her shoulders. Keeps you on your toes.”
Katie snorted, quickly covering her mouth as laughter bubbled out. “Dad, you can’t just say things like that.”
By the time her grandfather made his offhanded comment about preferring Paige, Azzi was barely holding it together.
Beside her, after composing herself Paige was still grinning, clearly enjoying how easy it was to get under Azzi’s skin. Under the table, her hand finally retreated fully, but the phantom sensation of her touch lingered, leaving Azzi feeling both relieved and achingly aware of Paige’s presence.
As the dinner carried on, Azzi did her best to ignore the lingering heat in her body, focusing instead on the conversations around her. But every now and then, Paige would catch her eye, her gaze filled with unspoken promises that made Azzi’s stomach flip all over again.
Finishing up dinner plates were cleared, leftovers stored, and conversations faded into the background as everyone began winding down for the night. Paige, ever the opportunist, excused herself once the kitchen was in order, making her way upstairs with a coy smile knowing Azzi would be up with some choice words soon.
Azzi, meanwhile, was left to escort Josh to the door. The boy lingered awkwardly in the entryway, his hands shoved deep into his pockets. “It was nice catching up,” he said, his smile warm but tinged with nervous energy.
Azzi nodded, her politeness unwavering but her patience thinning. “Yeah, it was good to see you, Josh.” She extended her hand for yet another handshake, keeping the exchange brief and formal. Josh hesitated for a moment, clearly expecting something more, but eventually took her hand.
“Well, maybe we can hang out again before you leave,” Josh offered, his tone hopeful.
Azzi gave him a tight-lipped smile, stepping back toward the door. “We’ll see,” she said noncommittally.
With that, she gently closed the door behind him, exhaling a sigh of relief. The evening had been exhausting, but not in the way her family might have assumed. As much as she tried to stay composed, the memory of Paige’s hand on her thigh lingered, igniting a restless energy that now begged for resolution.
She ascended the stairs with purpose, her footsteps quick and light. By the time she reached her bedroom, she was practically buzzing with anticipation. Pushing the door open, she found Paige exactly where she expected her—stretched out on the bed, her hands clasped behind her head, looking entirely too pleased with herself.
“Took you long enough,” Paige drawled, her voice low and teasing. Her hoodie was off now, leaving her in just a fitted tank top that clung to her toned frame. The way she sprawled across the bed, so effortlessly confident, only added fuel to the fire burning in Azzi’s chest.
Azzi closed the door behind her, leaning against it for a moment as she took Paige in. “You think you’re funny, don’t you?” she said, her tone a mix of exasperation and need.
Paige grinned, propping herself up on her elbows. “I don’t think—I know,” she quipped. Her eyes raked over Azzi, darkening as she noticed the tension in her posture. “You seemed a little…distracted at dinner. Something on your mind?”
Azzi huffed, pushing off the door and making her way to the bed. “You know exactly what’s on my mind,” she muttered, climbing onto the mattress and straddling Paige without hesitation. Her hands braced on either side of Paige’s shoulders, and for a moment, she just stared down at her, eyes blazing with unspoken frustration.
Paige’s smirk softened into something more tender, her hands coming up to rest gently on Azzi’s butt. “I might’ve pushed a few buttons,” she admitted, her voice dipping lower. “But I couldn’t help myself. You make it too easy.”
Azzi rolled her eyes, but her resolve was already crumbling. The warmth of Paige’s hands on her ass, the steady rise and fall of her chest beneath her, it all worked to soothe and ignite her in equal measure. “You’re insufferable,” she murmured, though there was no real bite to her words.
Paige chuckled, her thumbs brushing soothing circles over Azzi’s hips. “Maybe. But you love it.”
Azzi didn’t deny it. Instead, she leaned down, her forehead resting against Paige’s as her breaths came out shallow and uneven. “You’ve been driving me crazy all night,” she confessed, her voice barely above a whisper.
Paige’s grin widened, her hands tightening their hold slightly. “Good,” she said, her tone rich with satisfaction. “Now let me make it up to you.”
Azzi let out a shaky laugh, her hands sliding up to cup Paige’s face. “Just… don’t leave any marks,” she murmured, her lips brushing against Paige’s.
Paige chuckled again, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “Alright, I’ll behave,” she teased, but her touch softened in reassurance.
Azzi woke up slowly, her body tangled with Paige’s under the warm sheets. She could feel the soft rise and fall of Paige’s breath against her skin, the familiar weight of her arm draped across Azzi’s waist. It had been a restless night for both of them.
Azzi’s mind replayed the events of last night—how Paige had kept her on the edge, teasing her, pushing her limits. They hadn’t exactly slept, not in the way people typically think of it. The hours had passed in a haze of intimacy, teasing touches, and whispered words, their bodies close in ways that kept Azzi’s mind racing far past what should have been sleep. She’d barely closed her eyes.
But now, lying next to Paige in the quiet morning, Azzi could finally relax, if only a little. She stayed still for a moment, enjoying the feeling of Paige beside her, the warmth of her skin, the low murmur of her sleepy voice when she stirred.
Paige shifted, brushing her lips lightly against Azzi’s neck. “You okay?” she murmured, voice still thick with sleep, her breath warm on Azzi’s skin.
Azzi chuckled softly, feeling her heart skip a beat at the feeling of Paige’s proximity. “Yeah,” she whispered back. “Just trying to remember if last night was real or if I dreamt it.”
Paige snorted softly, her fingers tracing idle patterns on Azzi’s side. “It was real, all right,” she said with a teasing lilt. “We both know it was.”
Azzi swallowed hard, shifting slightly under Paige’s touch, remembering every moment of last night—the way Paige had made her lose control, the quiet intimacy between them that had both unsettled and exhilarated her. “Yeah,” Azzi agreed, her voice low. “It was.”
They stayed there for a while, both content in the quiet moment. Azzi’s thoughts wandered again, her gaze lingering on the way Paige’s hair splayed out across the pillow, her features soft and relaxed in sleep. Azzi wasn’t used to this before she met Paige—the closeness, the warmth, the sense of comfort mixed with desire. It felt like too much at times, like her chest was going to explode, but Azzi wouldn’t change it for the world.
Suddenly, they both heard footsteps downstairs, and Azzi stiffened, her mind snapping back to reality. Paige, seemingly unfazed, grinned and snuggled deeper into the sheets. “I guess we’d better face the world,” she murmured, her voice full of amusement.
Azzi groaned softly, stretching before reluctantly pushing herself out of bed. “Yeah, let’s get this over with,” she muttered, giving Paige a playful look over her shoulder.
The two of them made their way downstairs, still half-dazed, and entered the kitchen, where Azzi’s mom, Katie, was already busy making coffee. Azzi’s stomach churned slightly, not from nerves, but from the rush of trying to act normal after everything that had happened. She couldn’t help but feel a little off-balance.
Katie looked up from the stove when they entered, her smile warm. “Morning, you two,” she greeted them. “You both sleep okay?”
Azzi hesitated for a moment, unsure of what to say, when Katie, giving her a look of concern, asked, “Were you up all night, honey? I kept hearing you moving around. Bad dream or something?”
Azzi blinked, caught off guard by her mom’s innocent assumption. She quickly glanced over at Paige, who was standing next to her, giving her a small, amused smile. Azzi let out a quiet sigh, mentally scrambling for an explanation. “Uh, no, not a bad dream,” she answered, her voice a little too casual. “I just... didn’t sleep much.”
Katie frowned slightly, setting the spoon down in the pot. “I heard you moving around quite a bit,” she said, her brow furrowing. “I thought maybe something was bothering you.”
Azzi felt her pulse quicken as she searched for a way to respond that wouldn’t raise any suspicions. “I just couldn’t get comfortable,” she lied, offering a smile. “Nothing serious, I’m fine.”
Katie still looked a bit concerned but shrugged it off. “Well, that’s a bummer,” she said sympathetically. “You need your rest, sweetie.”
Azzi tried to act like everything was fine, but she could feel her heart racing, aware of how easily she was lying. The truth was, the restlessness had nothing to do with a bad dream. It had everything to do with the way Paige had kept her awake and on edge, teasing her, making her body feel things it wasn’t quite ready for. Azzi hadn’t had a moment of peace all night, but it wasn’t in the way her mom thought.
Azzi quickly diverted the conversation. “Actually, I feel pretty refreshed today,” she said, forcing herself to smile and shake off the tension. “I’m good.”
Paige, who had been standing quietly nearby, clearly enjoying the moment, couldn’t help but grin. She leaned in closer to Azzi, her lips brushing against her ear as she whispered, “Refreshed, huh? That’s one way to put it.”
Azzi’s body instantly responded, a flush spreading across her chest as she quickly pulled away, trying to mask the effect Paige’s words had on her. The teasing was making it harder for Azzi to focus, but she kept her composure, even though she was keenly aware of the heat simmering just beneath the surface.
Katie, oblivious to the exchange, continued on, her focus still on the coffee. “Well, I’m glad to hear it, sweetie,” she said, giving Azzi a concerned but warm smile. “Just don’t stay up too late again, okay?”
Azzi nodded quickly, her voice a little strained. “Yeah, I won’t. Promise.”
As Katie turned back to the counter, Jose walked into the kitchen, glancing between Azzi and Paige with knowing looks. Azzi’s face heated further as Jose smirked.
“Looks like someone’s extra close this morning,” Jose teased, his voice light but full of mischief.
Azzi groaned inwardly, rubbing her temples. “You’re so annoying,” she muttered, trying to mask the discomfort she was feeling.
Katie, still distracted by her coffee, didn’t notice the teasing, but Jose was clearly enjoying it. Azzi could feel the weight of his amusement, but she wasn’t going to let it bother her.
Paige, on the other hand, was enjoying every second of this. She was casually leaning against the counter, a playful smirk on her lips as she watched Azzi squirm under the attention.
Katie smiled and gestured to the counter. “Well, breakfast is almost ready, if you want to help, Azzi.”
Azzi nodded quickly, happy for something to distract her from the teasing and the thoughts that were still swirling in her head about last night. She grabbed a mug from the cabinet, trying to focus on the simple task, but Paige’s presence next to her made her heart race. It was hard to ignore the way her body responded to every small touch and the way her mind kept flashing back to their shared intimacy.
Paige leaned in again, her voice a low whisper. “You sure you feel ‘refreshed’?” she teased, letting her fingers brush lightly across Azzi’s lower back.
Azzi shivered slightly, trying to keep her face neutral. “Shut up,” she muttered, unable to help the smile that tugged at the corner of her lips.
..
For the most part, Paige and Azzi had spent the entire day lounging around, playing games with the family. It was a rare, peaceful break from their usually hectic schedules. The only time they ventured out was for a quick workout at a private gym, where they worked on their skill sets and worked on finding each other in new ways on the court. They even discovered a flare screen that was nearly impossible to stop with countless shot options for both of them.
Now, they were back in bed, tangled together in the quiet intimacy of the evening as they waited for dinner. Azzi was idly playing with Paige’s fingers, tracing the lines of her palm as if trying to memorize every inch.
“When did you realize you liked me?” Azzi asked softly out of nowhere, her voice laced with curiosity.
Paige smiled, her eyes fixed on their entwined hands. “I think I always knew that’s why I talked so much. Especially when I stayed with your family during the pandemic.”
Azzi chuckled, her laughter light but teasing. “Oh, you mean when you harassed me for months?”
“I did not harass you!” Paige protested, her expression feigning indignation. “You loved having me around.”
“Maybe,” Azzi muttered, her tone playful yet carrying a hint of truth she wasn’t ready to admit.
“What about you?” Paige asked, tilting her head to catch Azzi’s eyes. “When did you know?”
Azzi’s face softened. “Immediately. On the plane after USA camp. You talked my ear off, and I didn’t mind one bit.”
They both laughed at the memory, the nostalgia wrapping around them like a warm blanket.
“So, we both liked each other for years,” Paige said, her voice carrying a mix of amusement and disbelief, “and we’re just now getting together?”
Azzi nodded. “I think we got together at a time when we were both ready and mature enough for it.”
Paige sighed thoughtfully. “I can only imagine trying to balance all the media attention and figuring out our relationship back then. It would’ve been a mess.”
There was a comfortable pause before Azzi broke it with a more serious question. “Why were you with Jess?”
Paige blinked, caught off guard, not expecting to hear that name again .The question was direct, but she knew Azzi deserved an honest answer. “I was hurt… but it was also an accident.”
Azzi gave her a look that silently asked her to explain.
Paige hesitated, then began, “I don’t know if you remember, but earlier that day, you gave that guy your number right in front of me and I was pretty upset.”
Azzi burst into laughter, her eyes lighting up with amusement. “I actually gave him your number. He seemed a little… off, and I didn’t want to deal with the back and forth so I just gave him yours.”
Paige’s jaw dropped. “What?! Why didn’t you tell me when I complained about the random texts the next day?”
Azzi shrugged, her smirk turning sheepish. “I was upset about your new little girlfriend, and I didn’t feel like helping you.”
Paige shook her head, then recounted, “Jess wasn’t even supposed to be my girlfriend. She was just a fan who asked for a picture and afterwards she casually asked what I was doing later, and I told her the team was going to Ted’s. Next thing I know she thinks it’s a date and she’s announcing to everyone that we’re together.”
Azzi doubled over, laughing so hard tears welled up. “You got stuck for two whole months because you invited a fan to Ted’s?”
Paige grabbed a pillow and whacked Azzi “It’s not funny!” This only made Azzi laugh harder.
“Maybe I should ban you from talking to anyone ever again,” Azzi teased, catching her breath. “Clearly, you’re too nice for your own good.”
“Hey, I’m all for it if it means I only get to talk to you,” Paige shot back, grinning.
They continued laughing, but Azzi’s expression grew serious as a lingering question surfaced. “Did anything ever happen between you two?”
Paige, sensing the shift, quickly reassured her. “No. No, of course not. I only ever had eyes for you.”
Azzi nodded slowly, her features relaxing. “So… what did you guys even do?”
“Honestly?” Paige said with a smirk. “She spent most of the time throwing herself at me, and I kept making excuses—practice, meetings, homework. We barely saw each other. I just sent a few texts here and there to keep things at bay.”
Azzi laughed, shaking her head. “And she really thought that was a relationship?”
Paige shrugged nonchalantly. “You were my first, if that’s what you’re wondering.”
Azzi blinked, her surprise evident. “Wait—what?”
“Yeah,” Paige said casually, leaning back.
“Wait I thought… everyone made it sound like you were some player before I got to Uconn.”
“That’s what everyone thought,” Paige admitted. “I mean sure I talked to people and they definitely tried to hook up but they weren’t you. Even as a freshman, I knew I didn’t want to do anything that might make you see me differently.”
Azzi stared at her, still processing. “You always seemed so confident, so… experienced.”
Paige grinned. “That’s because it was with you. Everything felt like second nature.”
Azzi smirked. “Yeah, choking me the first time we fucked was totally second nature, huh?”
Paige raised her hands in mock surrender. “Hey, not my fault I noticed how much you liked it that night at Morgan’s party.”
They laughed, their cheeks warm from shared memories.
Paige eventually asked, “Why didn’t you just ever ask?”
Azzi hesitated. “I was scared. I didn’t want to hear details if there were any. I thought it’d hurt too much.”
Paige hummed thoughtfully, then smiled as Azzi said, “You were my first, too.”
“I know,” Paige said softly.
Azzi tilted her head. “How?”
“I know you,” Paige said simply. “You’re too intentional with yourself to be with just anyone. Plus You’d have told me if it were different no matter how much I wouldn’t have wanted to hear.”
They locked eyes, their gazes filled with unspoken emotion, and shared a tender kiss.
After a moment, Paige pulled back slightly. “What’s going on? You’ve been deep in thought all day.”
Azzi hesitated, then admitted, “Last night’s been on my mind all day.”
Paige grinned. “That good, huh?”
“Paige,” Azzi groaned. “Seriously. It wasn’t our first time, but something about it felt different and more charged. I could feel how much you cared about me with every touch and I’ve just never felt anything that intense before. Not to mention we went all night, you didn’t leave me much room to calm myself down so everything in my chest just kept building.”
Paige’s teasing expression softened. “I know exactly what you mean. I felt it too. Maybe it’s because we’re in your home. We've been here so many times before but never like that. It's all kind of full circle for us and shows just how serious this is between us.”
Azzi nodded. “Paige, you know this isn’t just a fling for me right? I want us to build something real.”
“I know, baby,” Paige said, rubbing Azzi’s cheek. “I’ve known since the moment I met you that whatever we were and whatever our relationship ended up being, we were in it for the long run. I can’t imagine my life without you.”
Azzi’s eyes glistened, her emotion bubbling over at Paige’s words and before she could stop herself, she whispered, “I love you.”
Paige’s shocked face lit up before settling into a large grin. “You love me?”
Azzi smiled, more confident now. “I love you. I’ve loved you for a while.”
Paige leaned in, her voice soft as her eyes shined with affection. “I’m completely in love with you, Azzi Fudd.”
They shared a lingering kiss, the weight of their words settling between them. The moment was tender, perfect. Moments later, Katie’s voice called them down for dinner. They broke apart, laughing, and headed downstairs hand in hand.
Dinner was quieter this time, a calm follow-up to the lively gathering from earlier. Only Tim, Katie, Jon, Jose, Azzi, and Paige sat around the table, the conversation mostly focused on basketball. Laughter punctuated the meal as they exchanged light-hearted stories about past games and memorable moments.
Jose, however, had other plans. Leaning back in his chair, he glanced between Paige and Azzi with a sly grin. “You know,” he began casually talking quietly so only they could hear, “I don’t think the two of you are as sneaky as you think.”
Paige paused mid-bite, her brows furrowing. “What do you mean?” she asked, feigning innocence.
“Oh, you know exactly what I mean,” Jose replied, leaning forward with a smirk. “Last night. Thin walls. Ringing any bells?”
Azzi groaned, sinking lower into her chair. “Jose, shut up.”
“I’m just saying,” he continued, clearly enjoying himself. “You two had everyone fooled during the day, but at night? Let’s just say, you weren’t exactly subtle.”
Paige’s cheeks burned, and she glared at Jose. “We tried to be quiet.”
“Keyword: tried,” Jose said, chuckling. “Didn’t really work, though.”
Azzi shook her head, muttering, “I hate you.”
Paige buried her face in her hands, letting out a muffled groan. “Can we please talk about something else?”
Jose had an amused look, but thankfully, Katie interrupted and redirected the conversation. “Azzi,” she said, her tone curious, “What was going on with you and Josh? You were avoiding him and Grandma yesterday. You were also acting all jumpy anytime he got close to you.”
Jose jumps in adding to the fuel on purpose, “Not to mention you throwing out your hand for an awkward handshake anytime he tried to hug you.”
Azzi froze, her eyes darting to Paige for a split second. “I’m just… trying to be respectful,” she said quietly, her voice barely audible. No one but Paige knows that Azzi is referring to the rules they have in place for one another.
“Respectful?” Katie repeated, clearly confused. “Respectful to who?”
Azzi shifted uncomfortably, her gaze dropping to her plate. Then, in a voice just loud enough to be heard, she said, “Paige.”
The room fell silent for a moment, the only sound was the faint clinking of utensils. Paige’s eyes widened, and she instinctively reached under the table to take Azzi’s hand, squeezing it gently. Azzi squeezed back, drawing strength from the gesture.
Katie tilted her head, a knowing smile playing on her lips. “And why would you need to be respectful to Paige?” Her tone was light, but her eyes sparkled with curiosity.
Azzi took a deep breath, her eyes flicking briefly to Paige before she turned back to her family. “Because…” She hesitated, then finally said, “Paige and I are dating.”
For a moment, the room was completely still. Then, in unison, Tim, Katie, Jon, and Jose broke into wide smiles.
“Finally,” Katie said, her voice warm with affection.
Azzi blinked, caught completely off guard. “Wait, what?”
Jon laughed. “Took you two long enough.”
Jose grinned, pointing his fork at Paige. “You were always looking at Azzi like she hung the moon.”
“Same goes for Azzi,” Jon added. “You’ve both been obvious since day one.”
Tim, who had been quietly observing, nodded. “We’ve known for years, girls. We just wanted to let you figure it out on your own.”
Paige looked around the table, her face a mix of shock and relief. “You all knew?”
Katie chuckled. “Of course, sweetheart. The way you two interact? It was only a matter of time.”
Azzi let out a breath she didn’t realize she’d been holding, a grin spreading across her face. Paige, still holding her hand under the table, smiled back at her, feeling a sense of warmth and belonging.
“Well,” Azzi said, her voice lighter, “I guess we didn’t need to stress about telling you.”
“Nope,” Jon said, grinning. “But we’re glad you finally did.”
Jose leaned in again, smirking as he whispered to the two of them. “Just maybe keep it down tonight, yeah?”
“Jose!” Azzi and Paige said in unison, their faces red but laughing despite themselves.
The rest of dinner passed in a comfortable, happy atmosphere, the family’s support wrapping around Paige and Azzi like a warm embrace.

The morning sun streamed through the window, illuminating the cozy apartment shared by Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd. Today was a day of celebration—Paige’s birthday! Azzi had been planning a surprise for weeks, and she was eager to make it special.
As Paige rolled out of bed, she was greeted by the delicious aroma of freshly baked muffins. Intrigued, she quickly got dressed and made her way to the kitchen. There, she found Azzi, wearing a bright yellow apron, bustling around with a smile that could light up the room.
“Happy birthday, Paige!” Azzi exclaimed, turning to face her with a tray of warm muffins. “I made your favorite—blueberry!”
Paige’s heart swelled with joy. “You’re the best, Azzi! This is amazing!” She took a muffin and bit into it, savoring the sweet and tangy flavor. “Mmm, these are perfect!”
After breakfast, Azzi led Paige to the living room, where she had decorated the space with colorful balloons and a big banner that read “Happy Birthday, Paige!” The sight made Paige’s heart flutter. “You really went all out!” she said, beaming.
“Only the best for my favorite person,” Azzi replied, her cheeks slightly pink. “Now, I have a surprise for you. Are you ready?”
“Absolutely!” Paige said, her excitement bubbling over.
Azzi handed Paige a blindfold. “Trust me, okay? No peeking!”
Paige giggled but complied, allowing Azzi to guide her outside. The cool breeze brushed against her skin as they walked. “Where are we going?” Paige asked, curiosity getting the better of her.
“Just a little further…” Azzi said, her voice filled with delight.
After a short walk, Azzi stopped and gently removed the blindfold. Paige blinked against the sunlight and gasped at the sight before her. They were at a beautiful park, filled with vibrant flowers and a small picnic setup under a shady tree. A cozy blanket was spread out, surrounded by a basket filled with treats and a small cake adorned with candles.
“Wow, Azzi! This is incredible!” Paige exclaimed, her heart racing with happiness.
“I wanted to do something special for you,” Azzi said, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “Let’s celebrate!”
They settled onto the blanket, enjoying the delicious spread that Azzi had prepared. As they laughed and shared stories, the atmosphere felt magical. Paige couldn’t help but admire how thoughtful Azzi had been, and how much she cherished their time together.
After finishing their picnic, Azzi pulled out the cake. “Okay, make a wish!” she said, lighting the candles.
Paige closed her eyes and made her wish, then blew out the candles. “What did you wish for?” Azzi asked playfully.
“I can’t tell you! It won’t come true,” Paige replied with a teasing smile.
“Fine, I’ll let it slide this time,” Azzi said, rolling her eyes dramatically. “But you owe me!”
They spent the afternoon playing games, taking photos, and enjoying each other’s company. As the sun began to set, casting a warm golden light over the park, Paige felt a wave of gratitude wash over her.
“Azzi, thank you for today. It’s been the best birthday ever,” Paige said sincerely, looking into Azzi’s eyes.
Azzi smiled softly, her gaze steady. “I’m so glad you’re happy. You deserve the world, Paige.”
Paige felt her heart race, realizing how much Azzi meant to her. “You make me so happy, Azzi. I don’t think I could have asked for a better friend… or a better day.”
Azzi’s expression softened, and she reached for Paige’s hand. “Paige, there’s something I’ve been wanting to tell you.”
“What is it?” Paige asked, her heart pounding.
“I… I love you. I really do. More than just as a friend,” Azzi confessed, her cheeks turning a shade of pink.
Paige felt a rush of warmth and joy. “I love you too, Azzi! I’ve felt this way for a while now, but I didn’t know how to say it.”
In that moment, the world around them faded away, and all that mattered was the connection they shared. They leaned in closer, their hearts racing, and shared a sweet, tender kiss under the setting sun.
As they pulled away, both of them grinned, feeling lighter than air. “Happy birthday, Paige,” Azzi said, her voice filled with warmth.
“Best birthday ever,” Paige replied, her heart full of love and happiness as they sat together, hand in hand.
After a few moments of comfortable silence, Paige looked at Azzi, her eyes sparkling. “So, what now? Do we just sit here and bask in our newfound love?”
Azzi chuckled, her laughter like music to Paige’s ears. “Well, I have a few more surprises up my sleeve if you’re up for it!”
“More surprises? You’ve already done so much!” Paige said, her curiosity piqued.
“Just a little something to make this day even more memorable,” Azzi said, her eyes twinkling mischievously. “I thought we could go to that little ice cream shop you love. You know, the one with the giant sundae?”
Paige’s face lit up. “Oh, I’m definitely in for that! Let’s go!”
They packed up their picnic and made their way to the ice cream shop, laughing and teasing each other along the way. Once they arrived, they stood in front of the colorful menu, eyes wide with excitement.
“What are you getting?” Azzi asked, glancing at Paige.
“I think I’ll go for the triple chocolate fudge sundae,” Paige declared, her mouth watering at the thought.
“Bold choice! I’m going for the classic strawberry shortcake,” Azzi replied, her smile contagious.
After placing their orders, they found a cozy spot outside to enjoy their treats. The sun had dipped below the horizon, and the stars began to twinkle in the night sky. They shared their sundaes, feeding each other bites and giggling at the whipped cream that occasionally ended up on their noses.
“This is perfect,” Paige said, her heart swelling with happiness. “I can’t believe how lucky I am to have you in my life.”
Azzi looked at her, sincerity in her eyes. “You make every day better, Paige. I’ve always admired your passion and determination. You inspire me.”
Paige felt a blush creep up her cheeks. “You inspire me too, Azzi. I don’t think I would be the player I am without your support and friendship.”
As they finished their sundaes, Azzi leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a whisper. “You know, I’ve always dreamed of sharing moments like this with someone special. I never expected that someone would be you.”
Paige’s heart raced at Azzi’s words. “Me too. I’ve always felt a connection with you that goes beyond friendship. It’s like we were meant to find each other.”
With a shared look of love and care for eachother. Eventually they return to Paige’s apartment, “So what else do you wanna do, birthday girl?” Azzi asks as she stares at the tall blonde’s blue eyes. “I wouldn’t mind a birthday make out session..” The blonde grinned, planting her hands on the younger girl's hips before kissing her slowly, the dark skinned girl returned the kiss and they began their way to Paige’s bedroom. *Time skip like 15 minutes homie* “Mmm Azzi yeah..” Paige groaned as she stared down at the younger girl's head between her thighs and her hands in her curly black hair, “so good yeah..” Her hips buck up to please herself, grinding into the girl's face. Azzi pulled her head back and spat gently before continuing. “Going come Az..” “Do it P.” Azzi mumbled against her folds, and so Paige did she release on Azzi’s tongue. Azzi came up for air, some cum on that button like that nose Paige loved.
Paige wiped it off and kissed her nose before pulling down the shorts of the younger girl rubbing her clit softly as she kissed her lips in chaste (is that a real word?) quick kisses. Eventually Azzi begged enough for Paige to slip a finger in teasing before a second. She curled her fingers into the younger girl smirking as her moans filled the room. Soon a third finger joined the dance and the rest is history.
“Happy birthday P.” Assistant mumble before hiding her head in the arms of Paige’s to tired to care.

OMG YAY ! i don’t see much content for azzi here it’s kind of sad💔 it’s my first time requesting but maybe azzi and reader used to date but broke up because reader went abroad for some time. so azzi starts dating paige after a while but reader comes back and azzi gets confused/conflicted🙏🙏
confused
azzi fudd x reader
warnings:none, but i didn’t read abroad when i first saw your request so sorry about that!
Tumblr media
the last night of high school had a bittersweet magic, like the twilight of a long, perfect day. azzi leaned against your car, her eyes a warm blend of laughter and anticipation as she looked at you under the stars.
“we did it,” she said softly, her hand reaching for yours. “after all these years, we’re finally here.”
you squeezed her hand, the familiar warmth of her skin sending a rush through you. azzi had been your everything since middle school, the kind of love people wrote about. and even though she was going to uconn and you’d soon be on the other side of the country at stanford, there was something fierce and hopeful in both of you. you’d make this work—long distance, time zones, anything. you both promised.
but in the weeks that followed, distance crept in slowly, like shadows at dusk. phone calls turned shorter, text messages went unanswered longer, and instagram kept you updated more on her life than she did herself. it was paige who started appearing in those updates the most. paige, laughing with her. paige, meeting her after practices. paige, cheering her on from the stands. paige, who understood her world of basketball in a way you couldn’t.
months passed. your heart grew accustomed to the ache, hoping it would be worth it. until, finally, you’d had enough.
it was a late saturday night when you texted azzi, a small hope sparking that she’d call back. an hour went by. then two. you waited until her online status disappeared into nothing. the silence pressed against you, suffocating.
the breakup was long overdue, yet when it happened, it still felt sudden. you sent a simple message: i think we both deserve better than this. i love you, azzi, but i can’t keep pretending that i’m okay. maybe it’s time we let go.
she responded with a long, agonizing pause. and then, one final text: i understand. i’m so sorry.
for a long time after, it felt like your world had shrunk. but you focused on school, throwing yourself into new friendships and routines. azzi stayed in the background of your life, just out of sight. you saw the news when she and paige became official, saw their faces together across sports feeds, but by then, you were already halfway to moving on.
three years later, standing in the crowded arena in san francisco, you didn’t expect to see her. the golden state valkyries had just announced azzi’s draft, and the crowd buzzed with excitement as she jogged out, looking as stunning and determined as ever. seeing her was like a shot of adrenaline straight to your heart.
as she moved through the crowd after the event, signing autographs and hugging teammates, your eyes met hers. time seemed to freeze. she looked at you as though she was seeing a ghost, her face a mix of shock, wonder, and something else.
“hey,” you managed, stepping forward. “congratulations, azzi. you… you made it.”
azzi blinked, regaining her composure. “hey yourself,” she said, her voice soft. “i didn’t think i’d see you here.”
“i live here now,” you replied, forcing a casual tone. “life happened.”
a soft chuckle escaped her lips. “yeah, i guess it does.” she glanced over her shoulder, where the crowd still buzzed, and then back at you. “do you have time to catch up? maybe coffee?”
a moment’s hesitation flickered within you. but then you nodded. “sure. coffee sounds good.”
the cafe was quiet, a small place nestled into the heart of the city, far enough from the hustle of the arena that it almost felt hidden. azzi had chosen a table in the corner, a place where the dim lighting and soft music blurred the line between memory and reality.
you sat across from her, stirring your coffee absentmindedly, catching glimpses of her across the table. time had changed her. she was leaner, sharper somehow, the softness of high school replaced by something refined. but there were hints of the girl you once knew—the curve of her smile, the way she fidgeted with the edge of her sleeve. little things that made your heart clench.
“so… stanford, huh?” she broke the silence, her voice careful, like she was stepping over broken glass.
“yeah. decided to go all in with the academics,” you replied, trying to keep things light. “and you… uconn and now golden state? i knew you’d make it big.”
she laughed, the sound warm and familiar. “it’s been a wild ride. sometimes i still don’t believe it.”
a silence settled between you two, one that felt almost comfortable. it was strange, sitting there with someone who once knew you better than anyone else, and yet now felt like a stranger.
“i saw you with paige,” you said, finally breaking the silence. you kept your tone steady, not accusing, just… curious.
she looked down, her hands wrapped around her cup. “yeah. we… got together after you and i broke up. she was there for me when i was struggling, you know? uconn was intense, and i didn’t know anyone. she made it feel like home.”
there was no bitterness in her voice, just honesty, and somehow that made it hurt less. you had seen it coming; even back in high school, there was something between azzi and paige that was easy and natural, something that used to make you feel like you were on the outside.
“i’m glad,” you said quietly. and you meant it, even if part of you wondered what might have happened if things had been different.
you talked about everything that night—your time at stanford, her life at uconn, the struggles, the triumphs. it was as if the years between you faded with each word, each laugh. and as the hours stretched on, that familiar warmth started creeping back in, like a flame rekindling.
when it was finally time to go, azzi walked you to your car. there was a soft breeze, and the night felt impossibly still.
“it was really good seeing you,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. there was something in her eyes, something that made your heart race, but you pushed it down, reminding yourself that she had someone waiting for her.
“you too,” you replied, giving her a small smile. “congrats again, azzi. you’re really… amazing.”
she looked like she wanted to say something more, but she just nodded, stepping back as you got into your car. you watched her in the rearview mirror as you pulled away, her figure growing smaller until she disappeared from sight.
days turned into weeks, and despite your best efforts, azzi slipped back into your life. she’d text you every now and then, little messages that felt casual on the surface but carried weight in every word. saw something that reminded me of you, she’d write, or remember that time we got caught in the rain? each message was like a breadcrumb, pulling you back toward her.
one evening, you got a text from her. hey, got an extra ticket to the game tonight. want to come?
you hesitated, knowing it could open old wounds, but in the end, curiosity won. you arrived at the arena, slipping into your seat as the lights dimmed. the game was intense, and azzi was incredible—fast, focused, completely in her element. watching her, you felt that old pride swell up, a pride that only grew when she scored the game-winning shot.
afterward, she found you outside, her face still flushed from the game. “thanks for coming,” she said, her smile shy, almost like she was back in high school again.
“i wouldn’t have missed it,” you replied, feeling your heart race as she held your gaze a little too long.
that night, she drove you home. you could feel the tension in the car, thick and electric, the air filled with words unspoken. as she parked outside your place, you hesitated, hand on the door, before you turned back to her.
“this… this feels like old times, doesn’t it?” you asked softly.
she looked down, fingers drumming against the steering wheel. “yeah,” she admitted, her voice barely a whisper. “i didn’t realize how much i missed it. missed… you.”
your heart hammered in your chest, but you knew there was someone else, someone who had been there for her when you hadn’t. “azzi… what about paige?”
she closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. “i know. it’s just… i don’t know what to do. paige has been amazing. she’s my best friend, and she’s… she’s everything i thought i wanted. but being around you… it’s different. it’s like i’m back where i belong.”
you reached out, gently taking her hand. “i don’t want to be the reason you hurt someone. but… i also can’t pretend that i don’t feel the same way.”
for a long time, she didn’t respond, her hand warm in yours, her gaze fixed on the street outside. when she finally looked at you, there was a hint of tears in her eyes. “i just need time,” she whispered, her voice breaking.
“okay,” you replied softly. “take all the time you need.”
the weeks that followed were torturous. azzi would text, call, ask to meet up, and each time felt like a step closer and a step further away all at once. you knew she was struggling, caught between two lives, two loves, each one pulling her in a different direction. and as much as you wanted her, you didn’t want her to feel forced, didn’t want her to carry the guilt of hurting someone she cared about.
one evening, she showed up at your door unannounced, her face pale, her eyes rimmed with exhaustion. without a word, you stepped aside, letting her in.
“i ended things with paige,” she said, her voice hollow. “i told her the truth. that my heart wasn’t all hers. that part of me… was still with you.”
the words hung in the air, heavy and fragile. you took a step closer, reaching for her hand. “are you okay?” you asked, even though you knew the answer.
she shook her head, her shoulders trembling. “no. but i know this is right. i can’t keep pretending. you… you’re my past, but you’re also my future. and i need to be honest with myself.”
you pulled her into your arms, holding her as she clung to you, her body shaking with the weight of her decision. you knew she would need time to heal, that her heart would need to piece itself back together. but for now, you were here, together, ready to face whatever came next.

4. I Lost You
Paige Bueckers x Azzi Fudd
Warnings: Slightly suggestive
A/N: Thank you so much for the support <3 This chapter is a bit choppy as it is a filler but I hope it provides clarity for the chapters to come! As always, feedback is always welcome! Enjoy. :)
The next few days fly by as far as Paige is concerned. She spends it going through the motions. Before she knows it, she’s making arrangements to go home for Thanksgiving. It’ll be the first time in years that Paige is only going home to Minneasota. She won’t be heading to Virginia to visit Azzi and her family. Riley would be going home with her this year. The thought makes her want to vomit.
The younger girl hasn’t asked her about her plans for break. In fact, they haven’t seen each other outside of practice. It’s a strange reality for Paige because she never thought she’d have to miss Azzi when they’re finally so close to each other. It’s funny how they felt more connected when they were hundreds of miles apart. Paige sighs deeply.
A knock on the door interrupts Paige’s thoughts. She quickly checks her phone before opening up the door. Blair is waiting on the other side. The basketball player promised to drive her friend to the airport.
“We’re going to be late. Let’s go!” Blair rushes Paige. She quickly gathers her keys and her phone before quickly walking to the car. Paige is very happy that Blair gets to see her boyfriend. They’ve made so much progress in their relationship despite the obstacles thrown at them from being long distance. However she’s sad; because Blair is leaving and Paige doesn’t know how she’ll get through the rest of the semester.
It’s a shared sentiment between the two. They had a conversation while eating dinner.
It’s around 8pm on Tuesday when Blair texts her.
You. Me. Noodles and Company?
Paige immediately agrees. Beyond the mention of the place that makes her favorite Mac and Cheese, her friend is leaving tomorrow. The blue-eyed girl isn’t sure how to cope with that. Paige is deep in thought when her phone vibrates again. It’s another message from Blair.
Let me in!
Paige figures that the girl had already been on her way when she initially texted her. This distance between her apartment and the restaurant is too far for her to get here as fast as she did. Nonetheless, she moves from her spot on the couch to let the brown-haired girl in. The smell of the food attacks Paige’s senses immediately.
“Hi, Paigey” Blair greets as she moves into the kitchen.
“Hey, B” Paige responds. The two girls are quick to pull out their food and dig in. The silence between them is comfortable, at least for a moment.
“I’m gonna miss you, B” Paige confesses. She isn’t sure how she became so close with the girl in front of her in a matter of weeks. The blue-eyed girl would’ve never thought that she would be friends with the girl who bought her a tequila shot, but here she is.
“Stop! We’ll say goodbye when you drive me to the airport tomorrow.” Blair demands. She also thinks about how she’ll miss Paige.
“What am I supposed to do without you?” Paige whines. She really doesn’t know.
“You’re going to heal your heart.” Blair responds softly. “You’re going to move on because this is killing you. You have to do this for yourself.” Paige can only nod. “When I come back, I want to see a happier version of you. One that gets all of the love she deserves in this world.”
Paige gets up to hug the girl. She only hopes that she understands what she means when she replies “Thank you”. Blair hugs the basketball player a little tighter before pulling away.
“This is our last night together. We need tequila shots.” Blair laughs. She doesn’t want the entire night to feel heavy. Paige laughs but agrees and pulls out a bottle from her cabinet along with two shot glasses.
The rest of the evening is spent enjoying each other's company. Both girls were so glad that they had met the other.
When they finally reach the airport, silence settles between them. Paige gets out of the car to help Blair grab her bags from the trunk. They aren’t ready to say goodbye just yet. It’s simple.
“I’ll see you soon, Bueckers.” Blair smirks. Her tease lightens the mood. This is what she said when they first met.
“I can't wait!” Paige flirts back.
They hug before Blair turns to walk in the airport. She’s almost through the door when she turns back to gain the basketball player's attention.
“Paige!” she yells which prompts the blue-eyed girl to look at her. “Take care of yourself.” It’s not an easy task but she says it anyway.
“I will. Promise” Paige confirms.
“You’re too full of life to be half loved.” and with that, Blair walks into the airport. She doesn’t give the girl a chance to respond. She doesn’t need to. Blair can only hope that the blonde girl listens to her.
-
For the next few days, Paige carries those words with her.
“You are too full of life to be half loved.” echoes in her head at all hours of the day.
She carries them home to Minneasota for Thanksgiving. She looks for any type of love within the people around her.
She sees it with Drew. It’s in the way he naturally gravitates to her. It’s in the way he looks at her like she can do no more.
Paige sees the same thing with her dad. His eyes hold a certain type of admiration. She can tell that he’s filled with a sense of pride when he looks at her. He’s proud of her.
She hears it when talks to Blair’ and her other friends. They naturally include her and accept her.
She feels it when the Fudds call and text her individually on the holiday. Katie, Tim, Jon, and Jose each make an effort to wish her a happy Thanksgiving despite her not being there with them. They don’t have a reason to think about her; but they do.
She understands it now. Why should she settle for only half of that?
Paige decided over Thanksgiving break that she won’t.
-
Azzi spends the week of Thanksgiving with her family and Riley. The decision to bring her was last minute and slightly impulsive. Okay so maybe slightly more than slightly impulsive. The curly-haired girl had essentially thrown a wrench into everyone’s plans by bringing the volleyball player home with her.
Everyone had planned for Azzi to walk through the door with Paige.
Her grandparents had come with the hopes of being able to see the pair for a little while. Jon and Jose were disappointed that there wouldn’t be someone to play 2K with besides each other. Katie had felt completely unprepared for the unexpected guest. She didn’t know what food Riley liked but she made sure to stock up on the ingredients for mac and cheese for Paige. Tim simply just couldn’t get past the fact that his daughter knew anyone else besides Paige. He really couldn’t get past the fact that they had washed this hideous fluffy purple blanket, only for the owner to not occupy their home.
Azzi knows this because she feels it too. It begins the day after Thanksgiving.
Riley and Azzi are cuddling in the basketball player's bed. Riley has an arm swung over Azzi’s waist while her face is buried in her neck. Azzi rubs small circles on her back while scrolling through tik tok. She’s bored and antsy.
Azzi is restless. She spent one full week with her girlfriend Riley and she hated it. It’s not that Riley isn’t fun to be around; but she wasn’t Paige. She didn’t know her way around her parents’ house or have inside jokes with her brothers. She didn’t understand why certain tik toks were funny. She didn’t smell like vanilla or have blonde hair. And she certainly didn’t have big, bright, blue eyes..
Azzi missed Paige. The concept isn’t exactly new to her. Their entire friendship is built off of them missing each other. But even in the times that they’re apart, they’re together. There’s a never ending stream of phone calls and text messages. They have a widget app that allows the other’s picture to appear on their home screen. They wear each other’s clothes more often than not. Paige and Azzi are always intertwined in some sense. Paige and Azzi are more like PaigeandAzzi.
If she’s thinking about it, Azzi suppose that’s why it was so easy for her and Paige. It was so easy to kiss Paige. It was so easy to touch Paige. They had already known everything there was to know; secrets, crushes, dreams, and fears. This was simply just something to add to this list. Now she knows all that she did before plus some.
Now Azzi knows that when she kisses Paige right below her left ear, the blonde lets out whimpers that one can only dream about. She knows that when they’re making out, she should bite the older girl’s bottom lip. Azzi knows that Paige lets out the most pornographic when she kisses the birth mark on her inner thigh. She also knows that she has to give Paige praise because even though she’ll never admit it, she loves it when Azzi calls her a good girl.
So, Azzi knows it all. She even knows that Paige is in love with her. She can hear it in the way Paige speaks to her. Her voice held a certain softness that is reserved specifically for the younger girl. She can feel it in the way Paige looks at her; like Azzi can hang the moons and the stars. She can feel it in the way Paige touches her. The blonde is gentle but Azzi feels every emotion when they hug. It feels like home.
It felt like home.
She hasn’t heard that voice or looked into those eyes in a very long time. Azzi knows it is her fault. She took all she could from the girl without giving anything else back in return. She didn’t have anything to offer the girl; so she didn’t.
Now Azzi is home during Thanksgiving Break; holding a girl that isn’t Paige. And that’s why Azzi hated it; because she wanted those eyes with blonde hair. Everyday. She wanted every holiday with Paige and everyday in between.
She can’t have that though. Azzi has taken so much from Paige; she doesn’t even know where she would start.
So, she pulls Riley closer. She isn’t Paige but she hasn’t lost her.

the not so pleasant part of falling in love [pazzi]
paige bueckers x azzi fudd
summary: it’s late at night and paige starts to spiral
a/n: ignore the fact that i haven’t finished part 2 of anything yet 😩
word count: 840
masterlist
Everyone talks about the pleasant parts of falling in love. The butterflies, the intimacy, the attachment. But no one ever bothered to tell Paige about the grappling fear that comes with it, the loss of power felt when someone has taken utter control over your heart. Paige thinks it’s beautiful in a way - loving someone so much that you trust them with the ability to ruin your life. But then her mind starts to wander, and her chest feels heavy with what-ifs. What if Azzi stops loving her back? What if Azzi eventually leaves her to find someone better? Because Azzi deserves everything in the whole fucking world, Paige thinks, and sometimes I feel like I’m nothing.
So Paige hates herself. She hates herself for being in love with Azzi’s innocent doe eyes and how expressive they are, always betraying her emotions.
Paige hates herself for loving Azzi’s smile. Because if Paige will do one thing, it’ll be make a fool out of herself just for a chance to see Azzi’s dimples. When they’re alone, she’ll make the stupidest jokes to keep Azzi laughing, so that she can reach out and cup her face and run her thumb over those damn dimples and kiss them over and over again. But most of all, Paige loves the way that Azzi has a soft smile reserved solely for her, where her eyes and nose will scrunch up and Paige’s heart will start careening out of control.
Paige hates herself for being utterly obsessed with touching Azzi. Their teammates roll their eyes whenever they show PDA, but it’s not Paige’s fault that she can’t help but slip her hands around Azzi’s waist whenever she’s behind her, burying her nose into Azzi’s neck in order to inhale her scent. She can’t help that she finds the baby hairs at the nape of Azzi’s neck so fucking adorable, running her fingers through it whenever they kiss. She can’t help the fact that in order to fall asleep in the car, some part of her has to be touching Azzi, whether it’s holding Azzi’s hand as she drives, or laying her head in her lap when they’re in the back seat. But wait, you can’t mention sleep, because Paige could start a whole tangent about how she loves napping with Azzi because then she gets to wake up to Azzi’s face, which is a glorious thing that no one else is able to experience. Paige feels bad for the rest of the world sometimes, that no one has their own Azzi, but then she feels pride, because of all the girls Azzi chose to be her person, it was Paige.
Paige hates herself for how she loves every little bit of Azzi Fudd. She could talk about her girlfriend for hours, about how hard she works and how she hasn’t let her injuries stop her. Or how kind and selfless Azzi is, always a shoulder for the entire team to cry on. Or how Azzi is the best basketball player in the nation world, and she hates that people don’t recognize Azzi for the pure talent and skill she has, but it makes Paige all the more excited for the next season, so that they can dominate the court together and finally prove it to everyone.
Paige hates the way she loves to bicker with Azzi. They could go back and forth, stuck for hours in the most useless and trivial argument, but because both of them are stubborn hard asses, neither of them will give up until Azzi inevitably threatens to make Paige sleep in her own bed that night, and Paige immediately crumbles because she can’t bear the thought of not cuddling Azzi to sleep. “You’re right about everything,” she’ll admit with a pout, letting herself fall into Azzi’s arms and showering kisses all over her face. “I love you. Don’t make me go to sleep in my bed, all cold and alone.” And Azzi will roll her eyes, but affectionately, and then smirk to herself because she knows that she’ll never actually do that to Paige, not for something as simple as a dumb argument. But it’s funny how much Paige believes it, and she also loves seeing Paige be a total simp.
Paige hates all of these things, she concludes as she stares up at the ceiling. But then she looks to the side, and Azzi glances up from her computer, meeting her eyes and giving a little grin before going back to her homework. And in that moment, as Paige studies Azzi’s goddamn gorgeous face lit up by the weak light of her laptop, she realizes that she doesn’t give a flying fuck about how she hates these things. Because Azzi Fudd is completely hers, and Azzi Fudd will never leave.
Paige rolls over and buries her face in Azzi’s shirt. The younger girl is surprised at first, but she laughs and starts stroking Paige’s cheek with the pad of her thumb. “What’s gotten into you?”
“Nothing.” Paige buries her head further. “Just thinkin about how much I love you.”

You awoke to soft kisses on your brow. Tender lips move south until the same kisses were being pressed to your collarbone and neck. You let out a soft breath, almost a whimper.
"Happy Birthday, love," your mates deep, husky voice drags you from any remaining grogginess. However, the moment you open your eyes a shining bright light penetrates and you close them again, groaning. "Hey, wakey wakey Y/n. No going back to sleep," Azriel murmurs into the shell of your ear.
You sigh and open your eyes again but now a veined, black wing blocks the light. You make a sound of contentment and send your thanks down the bond. Suddenly, the weight of your mate disappears and the sunlight comes rushing back.
"Azzzzzz..." you whine sadly.
He presses a quick kiss to your lips, "I'll be right back love."
As he leaves, you slowly sit up. With a quick glance at the clock you mumble a few choice words and jump out of bed. It's past 11:00am and you've missed training with Cass. Your weekly meeting with Rhys is in less than five minutes.
"Crap, crap, crap," you chant under your breath as you run around looking for half-decent clothes.
"Y/n!" Your mates' alarmed voice rings through the room. "What in the world are you doing!?"
You glance up to see a bare chested Azriel holding a platter of very good looking pancakes.
"I missed my meeting with Rhys and Cass is gonna kill me since I missed training! Why didn't you wake me!?" You curse, still trying to find a training boot from wherever Azriel threw it last night. "Az, do ya know wh-"
"Y/n," Azriel cuts you off, "It's your birthday. It's the day we celebrate you! I already talked to my brothers and they were willing to cancel any daily or weekly things that you usually participate in today."
You skid to a stop just as you spot your other boot, "Rhysand agreed to cancel our weekly gossip sessions!?" You ask, offended and incredulous.
Azriel rolls his eyes. "Get back on the bed and next time, let me join in on the gossip," he grumbles cheekily.
You smirk. "Ooooo, poor Azzie boy is sad he got left out! Think we were gossiping about you? That big wingspan of yours?" you question smugly.
He scowls, a soft pout forming despite his best efforts to frown. His shadows slide up your body, taking hold of your wrists and ankles and dragging you back to the bed.
You frown at them. "Hey! I thought you guys were always on my side in these petty situations!"
Azriel grins when you are dragged to sit against the headboard. "First of all, I am not 'sad to get left out' and second, the shadows are mad you didn't let them help with gossiping. They love drama."
He sets the platter of pancakes on your lap and you look down to see 'Happy Birthday Y/n!' written in chocolate syrup.
"No utensils?" you furrow your brows, looking again at the tray to make sure you saw correctly.
Your mate shakes his head, ripping off a piece of pancake and offering it to you. You smile as an idea pops into your head. You eagerly take his fingers into your mouth.
The sweet taste of pancakes fulls your mouth and you swirl your tongue over his fingers to get all the crumbs. "Mmmm," you moan seductively.
Azriel quickly retracts his fingers as pink climbs up his neck. He grabs more pancake and offers it to you again. Again you take his fingers into your mouth, tongue swirling around his fingers. You barely taste the pancakes, all you feel is heat spreading through your body. Again you let out an intoxicating noise as Azriel pulls his fingers from your lips.
"Stop that, I wanna actually celebrate your birthday! Not be stuck in bed all day," he hisses through gritted teeth.
You turn your mouth down and raise a brow in fake confusion as you look down to see what you're doing to him. "Stop what?" you ask too sweetly.
He all but growls in your face. "You keep that up and we won't be leaving this room."
"Oh?" you purr suggestively. You lean back, stretching your arms and back and succeeding in making your night shirt rise up to reveal your stomach.
Azriel practically whimpers at the sight, his eyes turning molten with lust.
A smirk grows on your face and you hide the mischievous glint in your eyes as you got to grab some more pancake. You rip off a piece and meet his eyes, extending your fingers to his mouth.
Azriel oh so slowly leans forward and sucks the pancake from your fingers.
"It's good, is it not?" You ask. "You're a very good cook Azzie."
He nods in agreement, jaw clenching tight.
You peck his cheek delicately but now, you're no longer teasing. "Thank you Az. I love you," you say lovingly.
The desire in Azriel's hazel eyes dims for a moment, replaced by pure love. "I love you too, my mate," he whispers.
Azriel beams at you, shadows dancing as he breathes out, "Happy Birthday, love."
Tumblr media
A/n: The following are a few glimpses into the day of the readers birthday and how it was celebrated.
Tumblr media
You smile at your mate from across the picnic blanket. He'd set up a whole picnic and made the food, even made the blanket for you. Often times you thought you didn't deserve him but right now you just reveled in his love.
Azriel was currently talking about how much he wanted to visit the summer court to see if his wings could get a tan. You highly doubted his wings could get tanned, considering they were black, but you let him talk for as long as he wanted. You'd found out he was quite the talker after you'd got to know him, it's just he didn't get a chance to talk.
You grab your mates hand tug him towards you so that you can lie down and put your head in his lap. He pauses speaking and asks, "Love, are you alright?"
You smile and grab his hand. "I'm great Az. I just like hearing you talk, it makes me feel safe," you reassure.
"Ok... so um... Cassian wanted me to get drunk with him and go to the autumn court to see how mad we could make..." Azriel continues.
You don't really hear the rest of his words, too busy studying his stunning his features. His eyes looked more green today, like the color of ferns. His hair was windswept from flying you around the city earlier and his lips were quirked into a one-sided smile.
"I love you Az..." you interrupt, just because you wanted to say it.
Azriel smiles down at you and pokes your nose. "I love you too, crazy mate. Now shut up and let me talk."
Tumblr media
"So Azriel ended up holding his pee for hours because Rhys's father wouldn't stop questioning him about his shadows! It was hilarious! He was crossing his legs like-"
"I'm glad you found my embarrassment entertaining, Cassian," Az grumbles, hiding his face in your chest.
"Thanks brother," Cassian sends Az a wink and continues, "He looked like he was aroused by Rhys's dad! After the meeting we had to fly back to Windhaven and Azriel couldn't find the time before to pee so he peed on the flight back! I bet the plants got watered that day!"
Mor spills wine from her nose as Cassian finishes. "How come you never told me this!" She accuses, pointing a finger at Cassian and Rhys.
Rhys shrugs elegantly, putting an arm around his mate and kissing the top of her head. "Just thought we'd save it till the right time to embarrass poor Az."
You are holding back laughter as you imagine everything Cassian just told you. Az is still hiding his face and now his wings spread out to encompass the both of you.
"It was not funny," Azriel mumbles, looking up at you.
You can't hold back your laughter anymore. Azriel's face is tomato red and his ears and neck are tinged maroon.
"Stoppppp..." he whines, again hiding his face.
"I'm sorry," you mutter, "You're just so beautiful!"
"Am not! I'm literally the color of Cassian's siphons!"
You roll your eyes and kiss him on the cheek. "You'll be fine. I'm sure we'll all forget about it soon."
"No we won't, girl," hisses Amren. "This is something I will hold over your bats' head forever!"
Azriel groans into your chest.
Tumblr media
"Y/n."
You turn to see Azriel on one knee in front of you, holding open a box with a sparkling ring.
"Az! Wha-"
"Shush... will you marry me?" He asks gently.
You blink, you hadn't expected to be married, considering that neither of you had any human background. Marrying wasn't uncommon among the Fae, it just wasn't something common for mated couples.
Then again... calling Az, 'Husband', did have a nice ring to it. No pun intended.
You smile at him, offering him a hand.
"Of course, I'll marry you Az."
Tumblr media
A/n: I forgot if Fae marry... correct if I'm wrong please. If you made it all the way here, I thank you.
sorry for like, not writing.
ANYWAYSS! HAPPY BIRTHDAY CLAIRE MY POOKIE!

I have a head canon where Paige has a realization during the overtime video with Jaden Owens that she wants to be with azzi forever and she’s ready for more commitment. Right when the video cuts off Jaden says “it’s like your sharing your life with your best friend”
Can you write a one shot where Paige has this realization after she says that and then she talks to Azzi about it? I’m obsessed with the way you write pazzi!
This is maybe shorter than you wanted and written in about the span of an hour (so unedited) but I kinda fell in love with this, so hopefully it's at least a little bit like you'd hoped for:
“It’s like you're sharing your life with your best friend”
It's been almost half a day since the podcast had filmed and Jaden's words are still echoing through Paige's head, as she lies on her hotel room bed, staring at the bright lights in the ceiling. That nagging voice in her head, exasperatedly telling her you already do share a life with your best friend, sounds a lot like Caroline, Paige thinks. It's not wrong. In between sharing closets and friends, and hopes and dreams, and spending every second they can together, the lines have merged so much that Paige's life feels a lot like PaigeAndAzzi's life.
All her life, Paige has been just a little bit scared of committing to anything except the ball in her hands and the court underneath her feet. She'd made as much clear in the podcast today too when the topic of marriage had come up. In the moment, she'd stuck to her default, that she needed more time, the same line she's been repeating to Azzi for god knows how long. Then Jaden had said those ten words, like it was the most simple thing in the world, and it had felt like Paige's whole way of thinking had come crushing down.
“It’s like you're sharing your life with your best friend”
And it should scare Paige, the realization that she already has that, something so deep, so powerful and yet so fragile, but instead she feels an unprecedented surge of calmness, her constantly moving body, suddenly finding a sense of stillness. If there was ever a feeling she could capture in a bottle, she thinks it might be this one, this feeling of knowing, she's found forever.
It takes about three rings for Azzi to pick up the facetime call. She's leaning against her headboard, hair pulled into a bun, eyes glimmering with sleep. Despite being clearly tired, the smile she has for Paige, just for Paige, is dazzling. And maybe that's why Paige isn't scared. Because if that's the smile she gets for the rest of her life, really it's all she could ever want.
"I thought you'd be out and about in town," Azzi says with a knowing grin.
"Nah," Paige shakes her head, "that's not the life for me anymore."
Azzi raises a questioning eyebrow at the phrasing, head falling back against her pink pillow, "is that so? No more party P?"
"Think I'm ready to settle down. Two kids, a suburban house with a big yard, all of that stuff you know?" and even if she says it with a joking smile, Paige knows that, that's the truth. Maybe not right now right now, but that's the future she wants and she wants it with Azzi.
"No pets?" Azzi asks, playing along as she squints at Paige through the phone.
"Well, I thought Stewie was a given," Paige says slowly and even through the scratchy connection, she hears Azzi's voice hitch at the meaning behind her words.
"Stewie-," Azzi bites her lip nervously, "you see all of that with Stewie?"
"Duh," Paige rolls her eyes dramatically but her heart is beating rapidly, "I can't imagine a future without Stewie. There's no house or two kids without her. Do you think-," it's the blonde's turn to chew at her lips as she stares intently as the brunette on her phone screen, "do you think Stewie would want that too? A life with me? Forever?"
It's been a long time coming, and Azzi has been ever so patient, maybe more patient than Paige had deserved. Maybe, maybe it deserves better than a long-distance facetime call and a conversation disguised using Azzi's dog's name but something about this moment feels right. And Paige wishes Azzi was here next to her, so she could kiss her feelings into the younger girl's skin, mark her with the words you're my forever.
Something wet shimmers against Azzi's eyelashes as the softest smile adorns her face, "I think Stewie would want that a lot. I think she's wanted it for a really long time actually. She was just waiting for you."
"I'm sorry I made her wait so long," sincerity is etched into every syllabus as something a little bit like guilt pools in Paige's stomach, guilt at having denied both of them the chance to just be happy.
"You were worth the wait."

Omg lol the grinch shirt, they’re so cutesy 🥹 hope they enjoy the break lmaoo while everyone crashes out with the think pieces
I hope they stay off of social media all together. I deleted Twitter but a lot of the comments that I saw on insta weren’t nearly as bad as I assumed they would be. But people still are just so evil sometimes. I have to stay away because seeing people speak so negatively on them puts me in the worst mood😫 Like I wish I didn’t care as much but I know the work they put in and I hate seeing people question their abilities when they aren’t being put in a position to succeed. I saw someone say Paige’s stats are all down from last year minus her efficiency which I know is partially because she’s no longer playing 40 minutes or the power forward but I just hate that for her. That girl genuinely deserves the world and she’s given me no reason to worry about her mental but I still do. I always go back to that video of A’ja Wilson in tears saying that sometimes she hates being A’ja Wilson and I worry because they’re so good as masking how the pressure really affects them. And poor Azzi wants to play so bad. I know we’re on the other side of the knee scare now but she deserves a healthy season where she can freely play at her best and show people that she’s one of THE best. As a fan I feel helpless but it’s hard to watch this all play out. I don’t know if Genos coaching staff is scared of him or what but someone needs to have a serious conversation about how his decisions are costing them.

Just going back to a couple of your asks yesterday on why Azzi isn’t as popular (outside of the basketball world), i think you don’t need to look any further than Li to see how much the race element plays into it. Cause don’t get me wrong I absolutely love Nika and it is by no means her fault that she’s blown up in popularity the way she has, like yes girl get that recognition, but damn it saddens me that Li doesn’t seem to get the same love from some of these newer UConn fans.
I see some people putting Nika as one of the top 10 UConn players of all time and i’m like HUH?! Like i don’t even know if i’d be putting Paige in my top 10 yet lmao and if there’s anyone who deserves all the love and appreciation, it’s big Li cause she was the one that held it down for us the past few years, always the constant and the most consistent fr.
But yeah no coincidence that the ones that blew up or get edited the most or wtv are nika, kate, paige, and caitlin. I’m definitely glad to be seeing a lot more azzi edits (i built my fyp brick by brick) lol but when going by views, likes etc, i think it’s safe to say there’s still a disparity between her and some of the other girls i just mentioned. And yeah i’m sure once she’s back on the court then that recognition will grow further, or at least i hope it does. But i hope it also grows for other poc players.
Sorry to interrupt the usual pazzi programming btw and don’t mean to be a downer, but just something that’s been on my mind.
You absolutely nailed it dude. The bias is so clear, especially on tiktok & I know edits is not everything, obviously it’s just a small group of people online, but it’s loud and clear who people have a preference for and it’s a pattern.
Let’s not even get started on the ranking UConn players lol those people clearly don’t care about basketball

you belong with me — teaser
a/n : i wanted to have this finished by today but 😢 here's a lil snippet instead! for context, this specific part takes place in july of 2019, before the start of p's senior year of high school, and reader is her best friend and teammate. happy valentine's! 💕
Tumblr media
paige doesn’t get what you see in him.
for one, he’s really not that cute, contrary to what all your other friends believe— there are a million five–foot–ten boys with curly blond hair and green eyes in the world, and you’re pretty enough to have any one of them that you want. for two, he’s so boring. he’s always got you holed up at his ridiculously large house doing something lame, when you could be with her, actually having fun. and lastly, he’s not even that good of a boyfriend. sure, he takes you out on dates and drives you around in his stupid car and surprises you with flowers and gifts, but those are all things she’s done for you and she’s only your friend. it’s the bare minimum, and you deserve a lot better than that; you deserve the world.
she thinks she might actually be sick, watching him tuck a stray piece of hair behind your ear and smile at you, leaning in for a kiss. his face is actually so gross, she gags.
“stop, leave her be,” azzi’s voice comes with a little laugh as her hand closes around paige’s forearm, tugging playfully, but the blonde still struggles to tear her eyes away. “paige.”
“they’re disgusting,” paige gripes as she finally looks away, taking a sip of her dr. pepper, not even bothering with her burger and fries anymore. witnessing that interaction ruined her appetite.
“they’re in love,” azzi teases, dragging out the ‘o’, and paige grumbles around her straw, eyes rolling dismissively.
you aren’t in love with him. yeah, it’s been three months since you officially started dating, but paige actually knows you; you’ve liked plenty of guys since she met you in seventh grade, and none of them have ever really meant anything. soon enough, you’ll get bored of him, just like all the others, and it’ll go back to just being you and her again, like it should be.
hopefully, that’s before the season starts in november. she doesn’t want to have to see you with him at homecoming, or even worse, at one of your games— she’d really be revolted, then.
“no, i agree with p,” kayhla chimes in on the conversation. “get a room!” she shouts, hands cupped around her mouth to accentuate the sound, earning the attention of you, him, and everyone else in the wendy’s.
your eyes get all wide and your cheeks tinge red, and the table erupts into giggles at your embarrassed reaction. you step away from him, finally, and turn back to the counter, smiling politely at the cashier as she slides a tray of chocolate and vanilla frosties toward you, and another toward him. paige can’t help but feel a bit smug when you return to the table and reclaim your seat next to her— it’s an end–seat, so he has to sit across from you both. she casually stretches her arm out over your shoulders, and shoves a spoonful of chocolate frosty into her mouth with her free hand.
“you guys are mean,” you say, reaching out for one of her abandoned fries. you don’t do anything about her arm.
“don’t be a freak, then,” paige replies, and you jab her in the side with your elbow, which only makes her laugh harder.
“oh, you have no right to be calling anyone a freak,” you retort playfully. “don’t make me bring up last summer—”
“woah, nah, okay! okay, you win!”
paige throws up her hands in surrender, and everyone at the table laughs again— everyone, except for him. you, on the other hand, laugh especially hard. she can’t lie, it’s vindicating knowing there are parts of you that he hasn’t yet breached, that she can make you laugh this hard and he has no clue why.
that she actually knows you. unlike him, paige isn’t temporary. you’ll get bored of him, and things will go back to being the way they’re supposed to be.
just you and her.
